The Acolyte cancelation and fanfiction
At first, I thought it was just a cruel rumor, but it appears to be true. The Acolyte is canceled which really upsets me. I mean, what were they thinking?! The story is not even finished, it ended on a cliffhanger. Plus, the show wasn't given a chance to grow and possibly improve with a second season.
I really enjoyed the show. I am not ashamed to admit this - it's one of my favorite Star Wars live action shows.
It was set in the High Republic era, a nice fresh look into the Star Wars universe, and an interesting look at the Jedi Order (this is coming from a huge Jedi fan), and had a diverse cast.
The show does have its flaws - I felt there were too few episodes, the episodes were too short, that Yord and Jecki died too early (it'd be better if it happened in the last episode of the season and we had more time with the characters before then), and there's some minor nitpicks but didn't affect the overall quality.
The show brought my third favorite character in Star Wars - Jedi Sol.

I was excited to see what would happen next. Maybe we'd have more Jedi and the Dark Siders/Sith world building, would have been cool!
But no, it's been canceled. And worse, the toxic part of the fandom is celebrating the cancellation of The Acolyte, mocking the fans of the show upset over the news, sending hateful comments to Amandla Stenberg and more than likely others who worked on the show, and just giving us sane Star Wars fans a bad name.
Star Wars is for everyone. I feel The Acolyte tried to show that.
Though not all is lost. We can continue and expand on the story of The Acolyte and its characters through fanfiction, fanart, fan comics, and other fan projects. And The Acolyte feels like some prime fanfic fuel, especially for those (like me) that love the High Republic era.
I am a fanfic writer myself, and I have quite a few fanfic ideas in The Acolyte.
I think all of us who wanted to see Season 2 needs a hug from Jedi Knight Sol.

One of my favourite things The Acolyte is doing right now, is Jedi being weird and other Jedi being like "ah yes, he felt something in the Force" and going along with it with no commentary.
Like Sol walks into the room in this scene, makes a frowny/scared face, goes "Follow me!" and runs off. And everyone just runs after him like yup, yup he sensed some shit, let's get going. It happens on multiple occasions and the Jedi never comment on it. I love it. Thank you for not holding our hands like toddlers over that.

I was initially set to go, "Wait, that's it? That's what Torbin was so torn up about that he retreated from the galaxy and felt so guilty that he killed himself for Mae?" but the more I thought about it, the more I found it to work. Torbin's guilt isn't about that he did something evil, it's that he did something reckless, for a selfish reason, and that he was warned about it ahead of time. Torbin's guilt was about allowing Aniseya into his mind (blaming himself instead of blaming the person who actively invaded his very mind), it was about wanting so badly to go back to Coruscant that he rushed into a situation that Indara warned him to be careful about, it's about how many people died not at his hand, but as what he sees as a domino effect of his actions. He got what he wanted, they were going back to Coruscant, but that little girl went through hell for them to get it, another little girl died (so he thought), a bunch of people died in that mining facility. It doesn't matter that they chose to do so by invading Kelnacca's mind and their own actions got them killed. It doesn't matter that it was an accident that Mae started the fire. It doesn't matter that Torbin fortified his mind so that Aniseya couldn't get in again or that he didn't kill any of the witches himself. Because he's a Jedi who cares deeply about other people, because it happened to someone so young and innocent, because other people's lives MATTERED to him, Torbin couldn't live with the guilt. His only crime was being reckless, but Jedi are aware of the powerful abilities they have and the responsibilities they have and how selfishness is a path to the dark side (that's just Lucas' worldbuilding, that's literally how the Force works) and that is why he was willing to give his life up for Mae's wish. Because Torbin felt responsible for his reckless actions that had unforseen consequences despite Indara's warnings and because he cared deeply about what happened to other people. The Council probably would have given them all library duty and had them relearn themselves, like that's literally what they did with Elzar Mann when he killed Chancey Yarrow because he mistook her for a Nihil who was trying to destroy the station, they saw that he regretted his actions and had worked hard on self-reflection and said they still wanted him to be a Council member. That is what the Jedi Council would have done for Torbin and Sol as well--but they couldn't do it because it would have crushed Osha's dream, so they sacrificed their own desires for her sake. They couldn't talk about it and it haunted them every day afterwards. Because they cared about other people.

“Evil is boring. Right? I kinda believe in the banality and mundaneness of evil. Evil is just selfish impulses, which at the end of the day are really easy to understand. It's easy to understand why people do bad things. It's like ‘Yeah, okay, you're selfish and scared and cruel, I get it.’ Being good is complex and beautiful and hard.”

I'm probably the last one to discover that Qimir comes from the Arabic word 'Qamar,' meaning 'Moon.' It's quite obvious that Sol and Qimir represent the sun and moon, but this detail adds a lovely poetic touch to the story.
