in my mind palace jean and jeremy are finnick and annie! i wanted each member of the perfect court to come from the district of their original number, in this au kengo is snow with ichirou as his heir and tetsuji and riko are basically exiled to district 1 as the branch family, mostly so the moriyamas can be like "see we're just like you! we lose our family to the games just like district people". riko is still like insane and wants to prove his competence as a victor so he recruits the perfect court to make like the perfect victors (also like crime family connections would b political connections here yada yada) so you have riko d1, kevin d2, neil d3, and jean d4 (even tho jean becomes number 3 instead of 4 bcus neil runs). which i was like oh yeah okay this is perfect jean can easily be forced into the capital's sweetheart role and it captures his trauma in canon as well. also because i really love katniss and finnick's relationship in book 3 (which the movie did not capture as much as i wanted...same with johanna) and i love jeanneil feelings. i feel like the wedding chapter for finnick and annie is also so joyful and filled with hope jerejean really works for that. also extremely sad but this is just another universe where jean doesn't make it in the end :(

Hey thank you and sorry for missing this! I'm glad you enjoyed :) Melbourne actually has a relatively robust comics scene, you should come to Hallozeen later in the year or the Festival of the Photocopier next year. In terms of other Aus indie cartoonists making work about the landscape/environment, Leonie Brialey does wonderful pen drawings of the central desert (her book Raw Feels is very good), Torsten Strokirch makes cool work about Victorian wildlife and flora, Cecile Richard has made some really moving pixel art renditions of inner suburbs Naarm and landscapes on Wurundjeri country. Other Naarm artists I know making responsive visual work include Jess C, Marlo Mogensen, Meg O'Shea and everyone at Glom Press and Helio Press. I myself admin a creative writing course called Toolkits which runs a Graphic Narratives stream -- applications have unfortunately just closed but you should apply for next year if you're under 30 and interested in making comics!

oh it's like, i'm a bit of a stickler for grammar and all ? like french is a Heavily gendered language

(rn there's kind efforts to neuter (? make it more neutral) it a bit by adding -x at the end of adjectives and stuff for more inclusivity (like if you say "hello to all" the policy at my university is to say "bonjour à tous-te-x") which i find kinda artificial and i don't like it)

anyway the thing is that i just don't know how to conjugate adjectives and stuff with iel, and i don't like the -x option. is basically it

idk a lot of it feels like cis folks trying to get inclusivity points and maybe that's not the case, it probably isn't, but it's like. idk in the climate at my college it really feels off, kinda like folks using latinx instead of latine, or like the folx thing a little while back

guess i'm having more thoughts about this than i expected haha

when i decided not to use iel (when the question first came up with my mom) it was really about the grammar thing, but i guess the college policy and the way it's used rn kinda weirded me out a bit

Oooh, I can definitely see Andrew developing OCD. I mean he's got the traumatic childhood and the need for control and ahhh it just makes sense. I honestly can't remember when mine kicked in, but I was in my teens. And when it got bad I didn't really know what to do. (Still don't.) I mean I just didn't have a name for it. Didn't know why I was like that. Just knew I had to Do Things A Certain Way or Bad Stuff Would Happen.

How I feel about this character

from a purely writer's pov, Riko is incredible. he is a very carefully and skillfully crafted villain that truly made me feel hatred and rage with everything he did and said. that's very important to a story, and he did it so well, the bitch bastard.

now on a human level... i do understand he is BOTH an abuser and a victim. i don't want anyone forgetting that because it is very important and it adds another touch of humanity and tragedy. i don't like when people negate one aspect or the other.

would i make him my favorite barbie doll? would i like to explore his character? would i root for him? do i feel a connection? nope. no. i am simply not interested. hate the mf. TSC really did him in for that.

the only thing i enjoy about him is making him ✨worse✨ in my fics because he really is the perfect poster child of villainy.

My unpopular opinion about this character

i think i said everything already, maybe i'll say that i think Riko is fairly smart? he's not just a dumb psychopathic child, and so both that reality + forgetting that fact makes him even more dangerous.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon

i wish we had access to the moment he truly snapped. the point of no return, the instant when he completely went off the rails. were there signs? what happened before? why did he snap? who was there? what did he do?

I've been asked to write a post by @abuadam86 because she is really worried about her disabled son Adam. Adam is only 10 years old and he suffers from quadriplegia, which is a type of paralysis that causes a complete and severe loss of motor function of all 4 limbs and the body from the neck down! He requires a wheelchair to get around. Imagine how horrifying it must be when there you need to escape from a bombing, but you are not able to move and need a wheelchair to get to places and the streets are full of rubble!

Adam requires special food and medication, which is scarce in Gaza, and on the rare occasion it is available, very expensive!! Due to a lack of medicine, Adam suffers from frequent muscle spams! As a result of his condition, Adam also has difficulty swallowing and digesting food. Due to the lack of the special food he needs, he has lost 15 kg of weight! Moreover, he is also suffering from respiratory illness due to the polluted environment he is in! And Adam is only 10 years old!

Adam also have 3 siblings: Menna (12), Maria (6), and baby Ezz (1). They are now living in a tent that is not equipped to shield them from the cold. They do not have winter clothes, and most of the clothes they have are lying under the rubble. These children, in particular Adam, are suffering so much, and that is in addition to the frequent bombings!

I actually have a cousin who suffers from a severe loss of motor function in his body and also has difficulties swallowing and digesting food as a result. I just want to say that support (e.g. medicine, equipment, the special food) for such a condition is already hard to get in normal circumstances, and as a result my cousin seldom leaves the house. If it is already difficult in normal circumstances, I can't imagine how Adam and his family are coping in the middle of a genocide! Please help them!
