How I feel about this character

from a purely writer's pov, Riko is incredible. he is a very carefully and skillfully crafted villain that truly made me feel hatred and rage with everything he did and said. that's very important to a story, and he did it so well, the bitch bastard.

now on a human level... i do understand he is BOTH an abuser and a victim. i don't want anyone forgetting that because it is very important and it adds another touch of humanity and tragedy. i don't like when people negate one aspect or the other.

would i make him my favorite barbie doll? would i like to explore his character? would i root for him? do i feel a connection? nope. no. i am simply not interested. hate the mf. TSC really did him in for that.

the only thing i enjoy about him is making him ✨worse✨ in my fics because he really is the perfect poster child of villainy.

My unpopular opinion about this character

i think i said everything already, maybe i'll say that i think Riko is fairly smart? he's not just a dumb psychopathic child, and so both that reality + forgetting that fact makes him even more dangerous.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon

i wish we had access to the moment he truly snapped. the point of no return, the instant when he completely went off the rails. were there signs? what happened before? why did he snap? who was there? what did he do?

favourite scene: does kiriona's entire introductory chapter count? i was absolutely enraptured by how different gideon looks from an outside perspective, especially after such a lot of massive changes. i constantly go back and reread it.

another favourite scene: (if you insist) harrow's conversation with john in the cargo bay of the erebos in htn ch2 gets me every single time. the amount of things her mind is fighting to hide from her, how clear they become on a reread...gah.

favourite quote: "Fancy footwork, shitbird," she said, and raised the knife. // naw im just kidding, tho i do like that quote. (wake has so many good one-liners.) truthfully this time:

"As though the universe could withstand more holes; as though the fabric of the universe had not become a series of lacework cutouts linked by the thin, snappable joins of those who remained. Could the pattern sustain itself, with such absences? Could she, who had once thought herself well-versed in absence, endure alone?"
