Finished up the front this morning. It was questionable whether or not it would be finished when we learned that a great many stores were closed due to this lesser known holiday - Easter. All this fuss over some rabbit who has magical droppings that are either bean shaped jellies or chocolate. Eat them and you’ll get smarter I am told. Anyway ...

Mulch is down - lawn is mowed. In fact - one year ago I posted a photo of the dogwoods in bloom - this year they are no where near as pretty or advanced. We have three white ones in the front that came with the house (the largest is probably around 60′ tall and the shortest around 40′) and we planted a few years back some red ones on the side of the house. Like the front trees, only two of the side trees are in bloom. We’re not sure what happened to the last one - it has leaves coming in, but not one blossom. The ones in the front are 60+ years old and have lasted longer than their expected life of 40 years. We’re hopeful to have them for a few more years, but there are a lot of dead bits too high for us to trim - concerned they are not going to last another ten years. The cycle of life :(

In back we planted a couple of herbs, relocated a few plants to new locations to hopefully allow them a more fruitful existence, and planted a False Aster “Blue Star” and a golden smoke tree (pictures 5 & 6). Last June HistrionicsAndTea suggested putting rocks into the sink birdbath and wouldn’t you know - birds suddenly liked the sink above the dogs bowls! (Thank you for that suggestion!). I am also planning a Butterfly Puddle (as suggested by Jazinga around the same time - thank you!!) somewhere in the garden this year with a different plate - last years was lost in the red clay.

Laika and Jaxon were keeping us company out back (They’ve torn up the lawn in their portion - no appreciation!). The Japanese Maple is just now opening it’s leaves so it was a nice burst of color. We’re researching a more stout solution to the “lawn” in their play area. Worst case scenario will be all mulch, but I am sort of fighting that option at the moment. While I hate lawn, I like the diversity of the borders and the green (albeit lawn).

Awwww Sandy is adorable! Glad he’s seeming to settle into a mischievous routine already!

Mischievous doesn't quite cover it lol! He managed to get a hold of a couple of e-number filled sweets and went insane for a day, literally bouncing everywhere!

We used to have an English Springer Spaniel called Merlynne, she was freaking awesome! Enjoy and watch out for the tail if it’s not docked!

Aw that's a gorgeous name! His tail isn't docked and has an amazing brush at the end that hits everything haha!

:-D I have a hazy memory of things like that being popular back then...when I was a kid we had these carved panels of dour-looking medieval soldiers or some such, so that's what inspired me to put that frieze in the bedroom!
