George's Color Schemes: A BTTF Analysis

I noticed some symbolism and characterization George has with his different color palettes. Let's see what they are! (Warning: VERY long analysis ahead)

Twin Pines George (Original 1985) - White, gray, and black (monochrome colors): George's color palette is monochrome to show how, well, monochrome his life is. It shows that his life, and even George himself, is sad, dull, and boring. These colors represent how dispassionate he is. Gray represents how indifferent and modest he is due to him being unable to stand up for himself and letting others walk all over him, seemingly not caring enough. Since George has no confidence, passion, or liveliness, he has no color. His palette reflects how bland and colorless he is.

1955 George - Blue and gray (+ some white and black): George's palette is similar to his future self in the original timeline, but with a lot of blue added to the mix. Blue represents his shyness, passiveness, and possibly sadness too. The monochrome colors mirror his 1985 TP palette, showing how he pretty much stayed the same throughout his life. However, the blue is there to show he still has some color and passion in him, albeit hidden; he loves writing and sci-fi, and would be willing to stand up for himself/others if pushed to do so. The blue is not very vibrant, but it's there. His palette is calm and mellow, just like he is, which also pushes the passive aspect of his character. The colors are overall not very vibrant, which shows how reclusive and unconfident he is, but the palette isn't boring because he still has a lot of personality in him. TP George practically had all of his liveliness drained, hence his lack of color.

Lone Pine George (Fixed 1985) - Red, gray, and white (+ a little black): Red is a way more vibrant color, showing George's increase in confidence and passion. He is more successful and lively now. Red is considered to be a fiery and passionate color, which reflects George in the Lone Pine timeline. However, his color scheme still has gray and white to balance it. He still has monochrome colors in his palette, showing that he is, after all the changes, still George. Gray and white show how he is still calm and collected, but with red standing out to show how he's more confident and passionate. Additionally, his palette compliments his 1955 palette, showing how he changed in some ways but is still himself in others. Instead of having his color drained like in the original timeline, his color changed instead, becoming more vibrant!

The prominent color changes show how George fluctuated throughout the movie, with different colors representing different aspects of his personality. He went from having no passion/confidence (TP), to having some passion/confidence (1955), and finally having a lot of passion/confidence (LP). Even so, there is still some consistency within his character; his kindness and calmness. The consistent colors throughout all three of his palettes are the monochromatic colors, which mellow and balance out the other colors. They represent his consistent calmness and maturity throughout the different versions of George. The monochrome colors are consistent because his calm and collectiveness are. His kind and relaxed nature is an overarching aspect of his character. The different color schemes show that George changed a lot, but he's still himself.

Also, Marty's color schemes primarily consist of orange, red, and blue. His palette is very vibrant and colorful, showing his confidence and passion. The orange and red contrasts/compliments George's blues in 1955, and Lone Pine 1985 George's red matches with Marty because he was the one who helped him gain confidence. There's a lot of meaning when you associate red/orange with confidence. Additionally, the blue in Marty's palette, although not as prominent, matches the blue 1955 George has!

Thanks for reading! I enjoy analyzing details like this in Back to the Future, despite how small they are. It just goes to show how there's so much to think about once you look closer. I hope you enjoy this analysis, feel free to add onto this post too!

Hi beautiful DBDA tumblr fandom! I've seen a few posts on DBD twitter for Cameo give aways lately and I thought I might see if anyone was interested here.

I know we are generally more chill vibes on tumblr so we get noticed less, but dbda tumblr will always be my safe space and I think that deserves some recognition. I am mostly just here to repost and write letters, but I appreciate this little community so much and love seeing everyone's edits, fanfiction, art and meta.

I know some of you have mixed feelings about the cameos and that's okay too- you're feelings are completely valid and I do understand where you are coming from. I will be making an equal payment to the DBD Palestine fundraiser as well, so I hope that makes things a bit more balanced in people's hearts. (I will supply proof if needed)

Ok this is a teensy bit of a story but here we go! So a few years (2018) back I was catcalled by a guy when I was living in a more populated section of FL with a decent downtown area. Did the typical ignore, and got called basically a stuck-up Spanish bitch. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Not long after that, Black Panther hit theaters and I went to watch it. Loved that the soldiers of Wakanda, particularly those outside of their homeland, were called wardogs. (I did have five dogs, even at this time. Including a Doberman, which was the classic 'war' dog and the reason for the alternate "finish" the military designed. Short version, you keep the dog in front of you (then send it to heel at your left) rather than sending them (right) around your back to heel (at your left side), because while crossing behind the Dobes used to nail their handlers in the ass. :) teehee!)

So between that and the Spanish Bitch comment, I was like 'Hmmm' and changed it to wakandan-wardog, for at least a time. Fast-forward a bit, The Sandman gets greenlit and it was always a favorite comic so. Keeping the Wardog, wanted something Dream-Realm or Night themed... Dream's my favorite but I did like the overall idea of entities beyond gods (The Endless). If I didn't have to adhere to the "D" theme I think I'd be Wish, personally. ^.^

Still a spicy Latina, still could bite (ask me about my t-shirt!), still a fandom reference and a dog history reference. I've always got a Doberman in hand and I'm always down to talk fandom stuff.

He was gonna be surprising her on stage as he was home from his tour and the band called him and asked him to make an apperance.. Okay, I need to be annoying for a bit since I'm Asian and it's AAPI Month. PLEASE start having more Asian characters or Asian headcanons. I almost never see them unless it's to push a stereotype, and it's absolutely infuriating. Yes, you absolutely can have a smart or nerdy character be Asian but they should NOT be the only Asian character in the cast. It's weird! I almost never see people make, for example, big and strong characters Asian. It's always the pathetic, nerdy, and scrawny characters. Or it's just one Asian character in a large cast. The only time I don't see this issue is when the person is Asian themselves.

Out of all POC, Asians seem to be one of the the least prevalent when it comes to Western media. This is extremely upsetting, especially when Asia is one of, if not THE largest and most diverse continent in the world. Also, you have to remember that there are way more than just East Asians (China, Japan, Korea, etc.); there's Southeast Asia, South Asia, West Asia, Central Asia, etc. I'm Chinese and I love seeing Chinese HCs, but show some love to all the other Asians too!! They're just as deprived of representation as I am.

I almost never see anyone talk about this issue because almost no one ever thinks about Asians when it comes to interpreting or making characters unless the person themself is Asian, seemingly because people only think of East Asians, who are not "POC enough". This is why I'm "annoying" about my Asian HCs or characters because I almost never see them. I want to see more good Asian representation in Western media. If you're not Asian and worried about accidental stereotyping or offensiveness, RESEARCH. ASK ASIANS QUESTIONS. LISTEN TO US. It's so easy. I understand the fear of accidentally being offensive, but you won't be if you actually put the effort in. Just don't make a character a literal racist caricature. Also almost no one listens to us when we talk about racism against Asians, which needs to be changed. I really want non-Asians to make Asian characters and representation too. Everyone, please start making more characters Asian. Thank you.

In the nicest way possible, people are all hung up about the actors predicting their ship name wrong (they thought it would be chedwin, not payneland, if you’re not sure what’s going on). I think we’re missing the very cool and significant main point that they were game for a romantic arc.

What I saw when I read that was the possibility that a romantic arc could happen then I got nervous reading later interviews thanks yockey, but every time someone brings this interview up it feels like we want to dunk on them for no reason. 🙃 It’s mean, and for what? If you do ship them, this was good news. Why are you dunking?

In my second cameo I asked George and Jayden to share some fun stories about times with the crew, and use the time to shout out their work. There is so much effort that goes on behind the scenes and like I said in the message, the crew really are the unsung heroes of Dead Boy Detectives.

You pour everything you have left into those you love. Desperately, frantically you try to fix what is broken, but the cracks spread faster than you can mend. The Eldest

Knowledge is your curse. You carry a burden heavier than anyone your age should even be able to conceptualize, let alone feel the ache and heft of. It weighs down your steps, deadens your eyes, depletes your faith. You know that the mistakes of adults are not without consequences, no matter how they pretend nothing went wrong at all. They see that you’re different now, but they don’t yet realize how much. They tell you comforting lies, not knowing that the truth is your only god now. Nothing will ever be okay again and you’re so very tired of pretending otherwise.
