One thing I don't understand is, in the second logbook the writer says that the terris prophecies had changed to fit Alendi long before Rashek took the power from the well of ascension, then it changes again to fit Vin in hoa. So when Sazed is comparing notes with the kandra, wouldn't they both have the wrong prophecies?

I have been following this one musician/tiktoker/youtuber/homless man since like 2019/2020, his name is Blue Jay Walker. And even before I heard any of his music (which is amazing btw) there was just something about him that drew me in.
This month my partner finally folded and started reading Mistborn, and obviously as the Brandon Sanderson fan between the two of us I was there to explain shit.
And it finally hit me. Why I like mr. Blue Jay Walker so much.
He is absolutely 100% a Kelsier variant.
I am going insane.

What were some of your favorite books this year?
Thanks for the question, anon! xx
Some of my favorite reads of 2022 were:
Book Lovers by Emily Henry - Nora and Charlie were the CUTEST. I devoured this book even though I wanted to savor it.
Mistborn trilogy by Brandon Sanderson - I'd had this series on my tbr for ages and I could kick myself for waiting so long to read it. The world-building was *chef's kiss*
Carrie Soto is Back by Taylor Jenkins Reid - I played a lot of competitive sports growing up, so I loved being on the tennis circuit with Carrie. The adrenaline! The stakes!
Beartown by Fredrik Backman - This book broke me. It pulverized my soul, hitting a nerve that was so excruciatingly human.
Highly Suspicious and Unfairly Cute by Talia Hibbert - This technically doesn't come out until January 3, 2023, but it was adorable. It's a YA romance/coming of age tale that plopped me right back into that time of my life. All the stress, the choices, the heightened emotions. I loved it.
The Aurora Cycle by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff - Such a creative YA sci-fi series! I was hooked from the beginning.
Born a Crime by Trevor Noah - Such a compelling and comical memoir.

top 5 worst books (or series) you’ve ever read
but i’ll take top 5 best if you don’t feel like being mean 😂
uhhh top worst... let's see
1 the Twilight series (or Toilet as I call them). I was a teenager when they came out and I was curious to know what all the fuss was about. Money and time I will never get back. what a waste of a good tree.
2. Acotar: I think I liked it for about two weeks, then I gave it a re read and thought about the series and well... I realised I did not like the characters, the plot and so much more and moved to TOG. (Now they live at the local charity shop. probably someone has adopted them already)
3. The Aurora cycle. I tried the first one because I was intrigued. then I started reading and it felt as a big rip off of Babylon 5 and it made me so mad that I abandoned it altogether. Even some of the jokes were similar.
4. Final Empire (Mistborn series). I love Skyward series by Brandon so then I tried the Mistoborn series. I gave up halfway the first book. I just could not get into the story.
5. Empire of the Vampire. Sounded great on the paper. I was bored to death. I swear, reading it was painful. I tried other stuff by Jay Kristoff and struggled. Definitely not my kind of author.
If I have mentioned books you love, I am sorry. These are my personal opinions. I am not saying the books are crap. I am saying that for me were a gigantic waste of time and money.
Thanks for the ask ❤️

So many wonderful bookrecs! 🤩 I don’t have many in return since I haven’t really read much sci-fi, and even less sci-fi/horror so my recs lean towards fantasy
Iron Widow by Xiran Jay Zhao 🔥 historical sci-fi fantasy
I haven’t read a lot of Brandon Sanderson, but have did enjoy those I have read. He writes both sci-fi and fantasy. The Mistborn series is fantasy while the Skyward series is sci-fi with a touch of fantasy
The 131⁄2 Lives of Captain Bluebear by Walter Moers (this one is so silly 😆)
Sci-fi, sci-fi/horror, or sci-fi/fantasy book recs?
I figured I'd ask here because a lot of book summaries don't intrigue me, so I'm probably missing out on some good stuff.
Anyway, I'd love some recs for sci-fi and the sub-genres I listed above if anyone has them. I've read very little horror/sci-fi, but I feel like SF settings would be perfect for cosmic horror, which I really enjoy.
For reference, here are some favorites of mine (in no particular order, and many are not SF, but they might give folks an idea of the themes/settings/characters/etc. that I like?):
Project Hail Mary and The Martian by Andy Weir
The Radiant Emperor duology by Shelley Parker-Chan
The Children of Time novels by Adrian Tchaikovsky
The Inheritance trilogy by N. K. Jemisin
Hunger Makes the Wolf and Blood Binds the Pack by Alex Wells
Dune by Frank Herbert
The Water Knife by Paolo Bacigalupi
The Stolen Child by Keith Donahue
Xenogenesis trilogy by Octavia Butler
Watership Down by Richard Adams
Ocean's Echo by Everina Maxwell
The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller
The Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck
Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones
ASoIaF by GRR Martin
LotR and the Silmarillion OF COURSE
Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe
The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle
not a book, but I've devoured the Malevolent podcast recently
Books with queer themes and those written by marginalized folks are preferred but not a requirement. If you have any recs - thanks in advance!

Mid Year Book Freak Out 2023
Best Book You’ve Read So Far: The Hound of Baskervilles by Arthur Conan Doyle
I've always been wondering why many people say it's the best SH story - now I finally know ^^ I love stories that change your initial ideas about the characters and the events to such degree!
Best Sequel You’ve Read So Far: Heart of the Sun Warrior by Sue Lynn Tan
Very satisfying conclusion to Xingyin's fight for her family and love!
Most Anticipated Release for the Second Half of the Year:
Dusza pokryta bliznami by Robert M. Wegner (yay, we have the title! and I remember nothing from the first five books, but who cares! Not me! :D)
and
Yumi and the Nightmare Painter by Brandon Sanderson (I only read the Mistborn OG trilogy and the novella about Forgers by this author, but there's something drawing me to this book ^^)
Biggest Disappointment: Midnight Library by Matt Haig
It wasn't that bad (the ending though... ehh), I just expected something more Earth-shattering given all the hype.
(same about The Cartographers by Peng Shepherd)
Biggest Surprise:
1) that I genuinely didn't expect the twist in The Valley of Fear by Arthur Conan Doyle and thought it was just A Study in Scarlet 2.0
2) Aoharu x Machinegun by NAOE - it's a manga on a subject that couldn't be farther from my interests, and YET. I am fascinated~
Favorite New Author: Kafka Asagiri. His mind... :D
...also Xiran Jay Zhao, I guess :) Iron Widow is a compelling book ^^
Newest Fictional Crush: Masamune Matsuoka from Aoharu x Machinegun <3
Newest Favorite Character: Everyone from Bungou Stray Dogs...? :D
Book That Made You Cry: that one volume of Bungou Stray Dogs in which Mushitarou stays with Poe and tries writing again... :')
Book That Made You Happy: Not sure how to answer that... but reading Hand of the Sun King by J.T. Greathouse made me feel like a middle-grader at the beginning of an exciting bookish adventure, so let's go with that ^^
Favorite Book to TV Adaptation: Da Ming Under the Microscope
I haven't read the novel by Ma Bo Yong, but the drama is great!
Most Beautiful Book You’ve Bought This Year: The Polish edition of Babel by R.F. Kuang
New Release You Haven’t Read Yet But Want To: the sixth volume of Heaven Official's Blessing
Book You NEED to Read By the End of the Year: Babel and The Nature of Middle Earth :)

if Mistborn and Jay Feather were on a space station where would the
Jay Feather would win, because Mistborn can only half ass guess at who the impostor is with Bronze, while Jay Feather can read minds.

Read this month (early 2022)
The Thousand Names by Django Wexler. It's "flintlock fantasy" aka set in a fantasy world with magic with technology/politics similar to the early 1700's, particularly French society. Mainly follows two characters in a colonial army, who think they're just following orders to help a (corrupt) prince retake his throne, but really the colonel in charge has a very different goal (which involves lost magic). One of the main characters is a lesbian who cross-dressed as a man to join the army and escape her former life, which was a fun surprise. Definitely a setup novel for the rest of the series (it's #1 of 5) bc there's a LOT of unanswered questions right now.
The Shadow Throne by Django Wexler (sequel to above). It got gay! Also added in my new fave character in Raesinia, whom I adore. Moved the centre of action away from the "frontier" to basically fantasy Paris, where we get a lot more politics and rebellions. Definitely looking forward to the rest of the series.
Elantris by Brandon Sanderson (reread). Still the best way to get into Sanderson's work, which I do sincerely think is some of the best fantasy written in the last 20 years. This is a stand-alone set in a world where the magical city at the pinnacle of the world collapsed about 20 years ago. And instead of people suddenly being imbued with magic and heading to that city, they're struck by a plague and thrown in against their will. Full or political manoeuvring, incredibly inventive magic, an invading nation, and enemies-to-lovers. Love this book.
Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson (reread). First of the Mistborn trilogy and one of my fave books ever. Set in a world ruled by an immortal, magical, powerful God King, we meet Vin, a street urchin who has the ability to 'burn' metal to access magic. She gets swept up in a rebellion and attempts to both understand her magic and stay alive. Super inventive magic, heist hijinks, found family, and yet another super inventive magic system.
Iron Widow by Xiran Jay Zhao. What if Pacific Rim jaegers required a boy-girl pair, and the boy pilot killed every girl he piloted with, absorbing her soul's energy to pilot his giant robot? And then what if one day, one of those girls killed the boy instead? Set in an alternate world where an bug-like alien species has nearly taken over the world, these giant robots are the last defense, and Zetian has no patience for the bureaucracy that wants to put her back in her place. (tw for sexual assault, ptsd) As advertised, it includes an f/m/m thruple :)
A Memory Called Empire by Arkady Martine. Holy shit this book is amazing. This is a book meant to be slowly and deliberately read, focused on and analyzed as you go. An new ambassador from a small space station arrives at the planetary capital of the Teixcalaanli Empire, only to discover that her predecessor has died and there are multiple factions all gunning for the throne. This is a world that venerates poets and language, and that comes through in the prose of the book. It's beautiful. I'm eagerly waiting for my copy of the sequel to arrive from the library.
