It was almost over. She reminded herself of that at least ten times a day. Her back was in agony, it hurt to inhale after eating and if she walked for too long or stood too fast she was so woozy she almost toppled over. Her impotence only worsened her mood. People were quick to help her wherever she went here in the hospital, but Maya didn't like strange hands. She hated that people pet her as she squeezed by. She knew they were only trying to reassure her of her space and make sure she was steady, but even still, she now found herself walking with Jax just so others might steer clear.

"Do we have to go back down this hall, we've got to have lapped it at least ten times by now," He groaned, earning a scowl from her as she paused to catch her breath. He stalled in time with her, elbow out in case she would stumble again. It might have been chivalrous if it had been Liam, but the action from Jax only made her tilt her head stubbornly, choosing to lean against the wall instead. "And you look about ready to phone it in." She wrinkled her nose at him disapprovingly, her eyes rolling of their own accord.

"Oh I'm Jax, I got comped hundreds of thousands of dollars to run around after a ball but I can't walk for half an hour because my little feet-ies hurt," She sneered, mimicking his gravelly voice crudely. She'd expected him to bite, instead, he just squinted at her with an irritated brow.

"God you're annoying," He sighed, taking a regulatory breath. On another day or had they been a little closer to her room, maybe she'd have poked the bear once more but the thought of having to waddle back with this many people between her and her destination was a hard pass. If one more rogue hand touched her stomach, they'd have another amputation rostered in on short notice.

"Yeah well, you'll be rid of me soon," She shrugged nonchalantly. It didn't bother her. Not at all. She looked away from his face hastily and tried to escape the fear of seeing it plastered before her for all her foreseeable days in a small carbon copy. "You held up your end of the deal, almost home free now." He looked uncomfortable at her words, mulling them over to feel for any barbs of accusation. There were none, Jax was free to do as he pleased. That was the promise.

Without worrying about what a fight could mean for a little growing body inside her, Maya would no longer have to be at the mercy of others soon. She could protect herself. It was only fair then, to pull her clawed grasp off of Jax. You can't force a father's love. Or maybe she couldn't. Trying to force him in any direction was about as useful as attempting to direct a car while hanging onto the rear bumper. She'd gone a few too many miles and had only an asphalt burn to show for it. It was time to let go.

"You gonna miss me?" He challenged, not quite playful but certainly unserious. Maya felt the mood sour further with the silence that grew in the divide between his question and its answer. She pushed the flats of her palms against the wall behind her until she found her feet fully, neglecting his ever-present arm. Despite her insistence otherwise, Jax wasn't an idiot. He didn't question that she began to walk back towards her room rather than the hall they'd just been pacing.

"After all the stupid shit I've seen you do?" She deflected, keeping her eyes forward listlessly. Maya wrangled that little asshole in her head responsible for her expression and managed a small teasing grin to alleviate her own tension as much as his. "And of course, you'll miss me." She ribbed back sarcastically. She didn't ask, not even for the sake of the game.

"I'm really gonna miss you... picking fights?" He posed questioningly, presumably trying to think of a single thing he might remember about her a year from now. "And me. You know, falling for it. And then screaming that I'm right," He added. It was like a dog dropping a ball at your feet, Maya could tell how badly he wanted her to pick it up and toss something back to save him from the sincerity.

"You should keep it up," She shrugged, tripping up on her stupid fucking bed slipper. His hand grabbed her arm thoughtlessly, keeping her upright before she shrugged him off with a scowl of only barely faux disgust.

"Keep what up?" He grunted, confused.

"The screaming that you're right. It's bound to happen one of these days, you don't wanna miss it."

RvB x CXGF (Part 1?)

If there’s one thing I love is mixing my own interests, and what’s funnier than imagining all the RvB characters singing some of the ridiculously awesome songs from Craxy Ex Girlfriend?

So here’s a list, mostly for my own amusement, but I’ll try and link the songs in a reblog if anyone wants to listen to them (not in the main posts cause y’all know how Tumblr likes to Not Work Properly...)

1) Everyone @ Grif and Simmons with “The Group Mind Has Decided You’re In Love”: Ok, this one was the first one I listened to today, and I couldn’t stop imagining Donut, Sarge and the rest trying to get Grif and Simmons to admit their love (Like, y’know, all of us, tbh). Donut can be Maya, Sarge can be Tim, and I’m laughing so much at Jax being AJ (so Grif can just goes “Sorry, what’s your name, again?). 

2) Church with “I Hate Everything But You”: Tell me that isn’t the Churchiest song title ever. It’s basically Church listing all the things that piss him off, except, of course, Tex (although let’s be honest, they do piss each other off and they love it).

3) Felix and Locus with “Horny Angry Tango”: “I’m clearly not over you yet” | “I’m clearly not over you, either” | “Our love has transformed into hate” | “Damn! Sex right now would sure be great”. C’mon, that’s just Lolix in a nutshell. And who doesnt want to see them tango? I sure do.

4) Donut @ Locus with “Strip Away My Conscience”: Going off of the last one, this is honestly just because you KNOW Donut would absolutely sing the lyrics “let me choke on your cocksuredness”.

5) York and North with “Fit Hot Guys Have Problems Too”: This one is just too stupid and I can’t stop laughing about it. Imagine them going “Leave us alone, we have to twerk out our sad!” IT’S SO STUPID, I LOVE IT. You can add Wyoming too for Josh’s part because that’s doubly dumb and it kills me.

6) Sarge with “Face Your Fears”: This is 100% a Sarge Motivational Speech, complete with telling the Reds to tell bears they’re not afarid of them, or to jump out of windows and buildings (of course, with the increasingly concerned Reds standing around. And maybe Lopez as the chorus of children).

7) Caboose @ Church with “You’re My Best Friend (And I Know I’m Not Yours)”: THIS IS SO MEAN BUT C’MON. The sweet voice and lyrics, the cutesy ukelele, oh my heart is breaking now, but it’s so cute.

8) Carolina @ the Director with “Maybe (S)he’s Not Such A Heinous Bitch After All”: Ok, in canon Rebecca sings this about her mom, but Carolina singing it about her dad makes me hurt from laughing. He is a bit of a heinous bitch, girl, sorry.

9) Tucker, Simmons, Grif and Caboose with “Slow Motion”: The Chorus Captains strutting down the avenue and being absolutely ridiculous in the process. Also funny is imagining the reprise of this song, with Caboose somehow being a badass at poker, and the others cheering him on.

10) Grif @ Locus with “Back In Action”: This one is another dumbass one, but I can’t stop laughing at the thought of Grif being all hyped for his and Locus’ rescue mission and singing their own buddy cop theme song. Locus would rather die, but oh well.

Maya pressed the heels of her hands against her eyes so hard it began to hurt as if it were somehow going to shove the tears back in as she sniffled irritably. The counselor had talked to her about this, the rages, and how they racked through her body. The stupid counting she was supposed to do to alleviate it when she was seeing red. It was hard for her to control at the best of times, let alone months pregnant living in a fucking nightmare twenty-four-seven. Holding it in was causing tears to pour from her eyes as her knees trembled with the kinetic energy of wanting to strangle the weasel with everything inside of her. Her fingers flexed in and out at the thought, feeling utterly declawed. Maya let out something between a cough and a sob, the wasps in her brain driving her teeth to clatter as she tried to breathe her way through it.

She'd thought he'd been hazing, an asshole act but not entirely serious when he'd spat and told her to wipe it up. At first, even he pretended it was all it was, laughing when she refused. Throwing a couple more barbs to test the water while Maya squinted at him doubtfully. It was all so fast, she didn't even remember which remark had set him off until he was in her face. She doubted he'd be so quick to do that with Liam present, Jax... who knew. She didn't cringe, instead her eyes lit up with wildfire, pupils narrowing in as she met his eyes. His breath stank when he got in her face and it made her lips quirk into a bitter smile that only stoked him further. "Do you think you have a leg to stand on here? What-why? Because you're the only girl out of a thousand Jax fucked that was stupid enough to do it without condom? You are here, because against all the better judgment, Jax is letting you. Do you know who's letting Jax?" He'd stood there, legitimately waiting for her to answer. Daring her to speak out of turn and it was killing her not to. She loved pushing buttons on volatile men, it was her favourite game even if it beat her bloody watching the stupid look take over their face as the sputter too mad to make sense. But this wasn't her step-father. Maya learned his limits, it's why she'd danced around them. Amos would belt her until she couldn't stand, but he couldn't take it further. She knew Beckett's limits too, little speckles of them were still on corners of the shower cubicles long after they'd moved their coach. "You." She finally managed through her tight-lipped scowl. "Very good. Me. Give me a fucking reason to throw you to the wolves. I. Dare. You. Just one. Because I promise you, your boyfriend isn't doing shit about it." She took steady exhales through her nose, trying to remain in control. "So do I have a reason or are you going to be a good girl?" He chucked her lightly under the chin and the only thing that stopped her from sinking her teeth into his finger until she hit bone was the bump between them. She'd been mortified, standing in front of those men while they averted their eyes awkwardly. The embarrassment only made her stomach twist tighter. Liam was right, they couldn't stay here.

Jax stood in the doorway for a long minute before she noticed him, the corners of his lips pinched downwards as their eyes met for an instant before her face reeled away. She pawed her cheeks furiously, wiping her face into the overly long sweater sleeves before awkwardly turning her face to the wall like it could fool him. "Killian told me-"

"Killian's a fucking loud mouth," She grunted, pulling her knees up to her chin as he took a cautious seat beside her. They sat like that for a long moment, letting the silence hang between them.

"I heard it wasn't great." He offered quietly. Maya shrugged indignantly, continuing to stare at the wall. He let out a little sigh, like he'd been expecting more to be said.

Her face tilted towards him a fraction, a quizzical look in her side-eye. A sarcastic answer barged its way to the front of her mouth, but she bit it back. If she stomped on his peace offer, she knew Jax would pull it back in an instant. Right now, her corner was looking too bare to swat away a helping hand for a moment of gratification. "You know, the last time you said something like that to me, we got into this whole mess."

"Well, we can't do that twice right now so I think we're okay." She exhaled with a puff of amusement, somehow managing to wear a smile and a frown all at once.

Hoo wee, a lot to unpack here. This actually ran longer than Wrestle Kingdom 13. And it did feel every bit of that towards the end, sitting in MSG, I have to say. But this was a great show, and for being the last show I saw this weekend, it was a great way to end my Mania Weekend.

Which isn’t to say there are some major questions here. Like, was this the right move to take titles off White and Naito? Both are VERY over in their respective roles, Naito the only NJPW wrestler to get pre-match chants, White clearly the most hated heel in NJPW, both in Japan AND America. While Ibushi in his first championship as a contracted wrestler offers fresh title matches, Okada retaking the belt does not. And they were in the midst of an angle whereby Naito wanted to win the IWGP Heavyweight title while still IC champion. So that was... a waste of time and energy? Neither of which says the matches were not good, because both of them were. Just not sure of the results.

Tanahashi got injured, maybe by that Jim Breaks Armbar? So he is out of the next tour. So is Hiroyoshi Tenzan, which, not sure how he got injured considering he didn’t work this show. Maybe it happened during the New Japan Cup tour, or whilst in training. 

The Guerrillas of Destiny are now double-champions, however their belts were stolen by Toru Yano at the conclusion of the match. Not that anyone in MSG actually noticed, because everyone’s attention was on the (what we now know to be worked) crowd invasion by fucking Enzo & Cass. I really don’t want to spend too much time on those two scumfucks. MSG let their feelings known in no uncertain terms, however. As did many of the wrestlers, like, true to form, Tama Tonga. This was a recurring theme, of Ring Of Honor really not reading the room, and having such shitty booking decisions. The Women of Honor match was patently Not Good, and a waste of Mayu Iwatani’s talents; this goes double for the Beautiful People appearing at the end, to absolute crickets in MSG. Kenny King robbing both Jushin Thunder Liger and the absolute surprise entrant THE GREAT MUTA (yes, I absolutely did lose my shit seeing him at this show, why do you ask?) of an MSG moment (Muta did spit red mist in King’s face tho). A streetfight clusterfuck that became a 6-man match to put over Herb Gordon. The way too long ladder match. ROH stinks, folks. Stop watching them. They are awful. The only thing  on their end that was remotely good was Rush destroying Dalton Castle, but Dalton is either turning heel or leaving the company, following his attacks on The Boys. But yeah, this show made it crystal clear that NJPW are way better off without fucking around with Sinclair Broadcasting Group, especially if they are going to hire scumbags like Enzo Amore.

Dragon Lee finally wins the IWGP Junior Heavyweight title! That was a bit of a shocker. So was Ospreay ending his Giant Killer push by losing the NEVER title to a much deserving Jeff Cobb. Real happy he finally has an NJPW title.

Long story short, I really did enjoy this show, but mostly by ignoring the ROH content. I also had a wonderful weekend, where I met quite a lot of people, both regular folk and wrestlers (ZSJ! Shibata! Chinsuke Nakamura! Jiro “Ikemen” Kuroshio!), saw friends and co-hosts, ate some great food, and saw some awesome wrestling. Including the RevPro show on Friday, which had a lot of NJPW guys, but I don’t have the energy to go over that now. And what’s passed, is past. Time to look into the future yo...

This Saturday (my 46th birthday!), we begin the cycle of shows leading in to Wrestling Dontaku, which will be a 2-day event once again. I don’t have the energy to enter in the full tour cards right now. I will get to that tomorrow/Friday when I do a new Upcoming Events post. But I can go over some of the feature matches...

On 4/20, we will have Sengoku Lord in Nagoya, at Aichi Prefectural Gymnasium. Two title defenses on this show, as Kota Ibushi will make his first defense of the IWGP Intercontinental title against Zack Sabre Jr., who of course beat Ibushi during the New Japan Cup. Also on this show, Juice Robinson will defend the IWGP US belt against Bad Luck Fale.

Another title match takes place on 4/29, at the annual Wrestling Hi no Kuni  event in Kumamoto. Here, GOD will defend the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team straps against the Most Violent Players, Togi Makabe & Toru Yano. The main event of this show is a special singles match between Hirooki Goto v. Jay White. Not sure why, but here we are. There will also be a special singles, non-title match (if Juice retains on 4/20) between Juice v. Chase Owens.

The first day of Wrestling Dontaku, on 5/3 in Fukuoka, has the first time the IWGP Junior Heavyweight title is a main event match for a megashow in... a long time. (Someone tweeted when the last time was, and I didn’t save it, and I can’t fathom looking right now.) Dragon Lee makes his 1st defense against the previous champion, Taiji Ishimori. That ought to be good. Also, Jeff Cobb makes his first defense of the NEVER Openweight title against Suzuki-gun’s Taichi. And only that belt.

The following day, on 5/4, sees Kazuchika Okada make his first defense of the IWGP Heavyweight title against LIJ’s SANADA. Those three have had great matches before, including the recent New Japan Cup Final. They are also advertising a special singles match between Tomohiro Ishii v. EVIL, as well as a tag match that sees Dragon Lee & Will Ospreay team v. Taiji Ishimori & an X wrestler. Not sure why they are going the X route when we all know it’s El Phantasmo. 

As I said above, I will list all cards tomorrow or Friday in an Upcoming Events post.

Meanwhile, the brackets have been announced for the 2019 Crockett Cup tag team tournament, taking place on 4/27/2019 at Cabarrus Arena in Concord, NC. NJPW will be sending over the team of Yuji Nagata & Satoshi Kojima to this event; one assumed it would have been TenKoji were Tenzan not injured. They will face the recently dethroned ROH World Tag Team champions PCO & Brody King in their matchup. Should Nagata/Kojima win, they will face the winners of The Briscoe Brothers v. The Rock’n’Roll Express. Yes, you read that right. Over in the other block, an ROH team of Herb Gordon & Bandido (poor Bandido) goes up against a CMLL tandem of Stuka Jr. & Guerrero Maya Jr., whilst the War Kings (Jax Dane & Crimson) face off against the winner of a Wild Card Battle Royale that will take place during this show. This event will also have an NWA World’s Heavyweight title defense by Nick Aldis v. Marty Scurll. 

Finally, NJPW on AXS has a 2-hour special this week, with matches from G1 Supercard just last weekend. The advertised matches are the IWGP Heavyweight and Intercontinental matches. You can scroll above to see who is in those. Show starts at 8pm EDT / 7pm CDT.
