FRI(END)S -
- 'let's put the end in friends'
pairing (drumroll please) - jason todd x f.reader
includes - mutual pining, best friend dick grayson, batfam being nosy as shit, reader is kind of camera shy/insecure, jealous jason but in a cute way, angry confession (personal fav), mild angst but with a happy ending obvi, swearing, briefly mentioned smut (like one sentence at the end) + anything i might've missed
a/n - hi hello...idk what to say honestly. this was a very random idea i got at like 3am and i can just hope that you guys will like it. also my characteristics of the fam are solely based on the webtoon. yes the title is inspired by taehyung's single what about it
@dreamingaboutsakuratrees this one's for you (and everyone else who voted on that poll) <3
'Yes! Yes, that's perfect! Gosh, the camera absolutely loves you two!'
'Thanks, Delilah ~'
Dick sends the photographer a wink, paired with that signature grin of his, and she nearly falls on her ass. You roll your eyes at the scene affectionately, focused on fixing your hair and checking your makeup for the nth time in the past hour.
'Will you quit it?'
Beside you, your best friend whines and you swat him away with your hand, eyes never leaving the mirror.
'I'm sorry! I just wanna make sure it looks good!'
'You look beautiful. You're doing great, you just need to relax. Focus on me, yeah?'
It's honestly impossible to say no to those eyes, you've learned that a long while ago. The fact that he knows the effect he has doesn't help either.
The photoshoot goes by in a blur. You've changed at least five outfits, done the couple shoots, done the single ones, had a lunch break, etc etc. Throughout the day you learn that the crew that works for Gotham Gazette is actually quite nice, which helped ease your nerves immensely.
Now six hours later, you're sitting in your comfortable clothes, in the passenger seat of Dick's car, on the familiar road towards the Wayne Mansion.
As soon as you step through the door you're greeted with a flash of purple.
'How was it?! Tell me everything! When will the cover be out?! What did you wear?! Who did you see?!'
Stephanie looks as if she's about to burst and simultaneously split her face in half with her grin.
'It went...well, it went.'
Beside you Dick rolls his eyes so hard you could almost hear the gesture.
'Don't listen to her, it was great. She was great.'
'Stoppppp!'
You immediately hide your face in your hands, much to the man's amusement. One of Dick's arms wraps around your shoulders and the three of you head for the library.
'Well, well, well, if it isn't Gotham's power couple ~'
'Gross. Everybody knows they are mere friends.'
'We know. But the rest of Gotham is skeptical.'
'You are hallucinating, Drake. This is why you should stop drinking multitudinous of coffee.'
'Listen here you little shit-'
'O-kay!'
Dick, as always, steps in between the two brothers, effectively averting what could result in another prank war between the two. And it's not even prank season yet.
'Damian, you and I need to discuss that plan for tonight, right?'
'What are you talking ab-'
'The sooner we start the better!'
With that the two dissappear from the room, a very confused Damian letting himself be led by a beaming Dick.
Allowing yourself to feel the tiredness from everything you've done today, you plop on the now empty seat on the couch and sigh deeply.
'Cookie?'
'Thanks, Cass.'
You smile gratefully at the girl, sinking into the cushions more and more while chewing on the chocolate chip cookie.
'Sooo...'
Duke begins, the suspicious tone causing you to raise a brow before he continues.
'...When do we get to see the pictures?'
With this, every pair of eyes in the room turns to you, and you have to avoid the urge to groan.
'The actual magazine comes out in a week. But they'll email us the pictures the day after tomorrow I think.'
'I can't wait to see them! I bet you and Dick had so much chemistry in the photos!'
'Honestly, next to him I don't think anyone will notice me.'
'Of course they will! Especially if you did a couple shoot and got all close and-'
A loud slam interrupts Steph and her rambling and all of you turn to look at a very annoyed Jason. Which, to be fair, is just normal Jason.
He's silent when he stands up and walks across the room, hands stuffed in his pockets. If you had to guess, you'd say he was avoiding eye-contact too.
'Awkward...'
'Not helping Duke.'
- a few days later -
Everyone is sitting in the living room, crowded around Tim's computer, with you and Dick in the middle.
'Jason!'
Dick chirps as soon as he sees his brother enter the room.
'Come look at the photos!'
'No thanks.'
That was the second time that week that Jason refused to look you in the eyes and downright ignored your existence. But you knew better than to press Jason Todd.
Besides, maybe it wasn't even personal.
-
This was definitely personal.
You haven't talked to Jason in days, and it was driving you insane. The worst part is that you have no idea what the fuck you did.
So naturally, as one does, you'll ask him about it. Deciding that it's best to do it after patrol, particularly after the two of you took down some thugs together and were left alone, you refuse to go back home until you two work this out.
'See you tomorrow.'
'Jason.'
Red Hood stops dead in his tracks, and despite his back being turned to you, you can see the tension in his shoulders.
'This needs to stop.'
'I have no idea what-'
'Cut the bullshit, Jay. Why the fuck have you been avoiding me?'
He inhales deeply, mustering up the courage to turn around and face you. Your arms are crossed in front of your chest, accompanied with a very annoyed glare.
'I'm waiting.'
'It's nothing that concerns you.'
His answer makes you at least five times more furious and you scoff.
'Oh yeah? Well I beg to differ. I think I deserve to know why my friend has spent an entire week actively avoiding me.'
Due to his helmet you can't see it, but Jason rolls his eyes in annoyance.
'Why do you care, anyway? I'd say Richard has been keeping you busy.'
This makes you splutter, completely catching you of guard. His words are on repeat in your mind as you try to piece two and two together.
'What the fuck does Dick have to do with any of this?!'
'You tell me!'
Both of your voices echo off the empty walls in the alleyway before a thick silence takes over. Jason takes off his helmet and places it on a nearby fire escape so he can run a hand through his hair.
You watch him, still mildly annoyed, but the sight of his face welcoming nonetheless. And then he looks up and you feel an arrow shoot right through your heart.
His green eyes are soft, dare you say pleading, when they meet your own.
'I-' He takes a deep breath. 'It's the damn photoshoot.'
Before you can ask him to elaborate he's already going off, arms flying every which way with gestures he uses to emphasize his points.
'All I've been hearing for days has been about you and Dick looking all couple-y and what not. I mean you looked gorgeous, honestly why would anyone pay attention to him when you're right there, but god was it getting annoying.'
You have to blink a few times before your brain catches up with his words. Much to his dismay, you don't soften, if anything you look even more pissed now.
'I still don't understand why you've been avoiding me.'
'Because I fucking like you!'
The volume of his words startles you and you swear he was heard a couple blocks away.
'You what now-'
Jason takes a step closer to you.
'I-'
Another step.
'-like-'
Another step.
'-you.'
He's gotten so close to the point of cornering you against a wall, the intensity behind his eyes rendering you unable to look away. You allow yourself a few silent moments to simply appreciate his beauty this close before putting him out of his misery. By your standards at least.
'So this whole time you've just been jealous?'
It takes all of your willpower not to laugh when he deadpans.
'I never took you for a jealous guy to be hones-'
'Shut the fuck up already and kiss me.'
'Yessir ~'
He groans at the term and you make a mental note to use it again later when you're at his apartment.
Who needs to sleep anyway?

BRUCE WAYNE | BATMAN (generalized fanon | wfa)

Bruce Wayne w/ a Rastafarian S/O (Bruce Wayne x Batmom!Reader)
Headcanons

Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bruce initially being the only person allowed to see your locs.
Each kid takes it as a rite of passage when they’re allowed to see your hair as well. You do your best to stress to them not to make it seem like an obligation or some huge sign of your love or anything, but they tend to give it more weight than you want them to regardless.
It’s just that when you’re in your home, and around your people, you can trust your locs to be free.
The first time when the house was quiet (no risk of guests) Bruce suddenly found one night that he was allowed to see your locs after you finally convinced him to get out of the Batsuit and come sleep upstairs in a bed instead of on a cot in the cave.
You don’t make a big deal of it, and he doesn’t comment right then, but he is very pleased.
You and Damian bond over ‘vegan’ dishes and desserts.
There’s plenty of times when you’re making a Caribbean dish ‘vegan’ (ie: compatible with your Ital diet to a natural medicinal-esq degree) that he acts as your taste tester or is the accomplice to any failures you make in the kitchen.
Something about ‘Rasta Pasta’ does vex you, though. There’s just something so antithetical about something that explicitly has ‘Rasta’ in the name having meat in it most of the time that boggles your mind even though it isn’t a big deal.
You share your feelings about this with Bruce and he nods sagely while Duke busts a gut behind him with his hands slapped over his mouth. Duke does think you have a point but the way you’re talking about it and just how seriously Bruce is taking your otherwise trivial complaint is killing him.
Jason picks out pretty wraps for you to wrap your head with from wherever he’s traveled. A lot of them you sew into skirts you buy to make them longer but still give them a personal touch.
Everyone eats your food; no one misses the meat (and all the other things you don’t cook with) and Alfred supremely enjoys the day off from the kitchen because if you're asked to make dinner you’re making breakfast, lunch, snacks, and dessert too.
Dick will come all the way from Bludhaven for your fungi and (meatless) veggie stew, please do not play. You make extra just for him to take home every time.
Bruce loves at night when you’re going to bed and you drop your hair. Loves getting to see your locs knock into your back and fall over your shoulders. Your hair is your crown and Bruce treats it with every bit of reverence it deserves.
Whenever he can he likes to twine his fingers through your locs when you kiss.
On slow days when the Bat isn’t needed and Bruce Wayne doesn’t have to make an appearance you spend the day around each other. You alternate from his office to your bedroom while he works and you oil and retwist your hair on the bed or on the couch in his study.
The two of you have your dumbest conversations on days like these which is how Duke and Damian end up walking in on you both debating the logistics of whether capri pants were an acceptable fashion choice.
Both Duke and Damian sided with you saying they were not, but then Tim walked in on the conversation and - even after explaining your reasoning to him - sided with Bruce saying they were a perfect choice for when you couldn’t decide between shorts or pants.
When Steph passes by the open door she shakes her head at Tim, clicking her tongue like you usually do, and asks you if she can borrow one of your blouses even though you can see it already under her arm.
You make it mandatory that you all go out as a family to connect with nature, not just be around it, and to get some actual sun.
Hikes are absolutely your jam, and it’s not like Bruce likes anything better than to show off for you. Rock climbing in nature, taking trips to swim in the Caribbean, cave explorations, plant scavenger hunts, star gazing, and more are all on the table too when free time comes into play.
You and Bruce also go on regularly scheduled walks (that is when he’s not too torn up to walk) where you take the time to catch up and re-familiarize and ground yourselves through growing your connection even more.
You also have the room — and Bruce is more than happy to give you it — to have a giant garden where you grow a lot of your own food, and you maintain it as a family.
You wake up to pray every morning like clockwork, and Bruce doesn’t join in but he does wake up for a short stint of time to watch you before passing back out.
If there was one thing your husband wasn’t, it was a morning person (within reason, most of the time).
If he is up and moving (and home) when you’re going out he likes to wrap your locs up for you. The first time he offered you raised a brow at him, but he eased the fabric from your hands and turned you around to show you what he meant anyway. When he wraps the fabric around your bundled locs exactly like how you do without any instruction you’re shocked, but the smile you give him afterwards is dazzled enough that Bruce winks at you.
When he’s really calm, usually before he’s about to slip into sleep after a long time running around and plotting as Batman, he’ll go soft and as floaty as he ever does. While one of his hands will be wrapped around you, the other often gravitates towards the wooden ankh you wear (if you still have it on). He winds it between his fingers, playing with the beads that adorn the necklace like he’s in a trance as he presses sleepy kisses to your brown skin.
You pray for him most often when he’s like this, your touch on him soft and your hand a gentle balm in his hair in turn; his life was always on the line after all, and so were your children’s. It couldn’t hurt, that was for sure.
You make the Manor a little louder relatively often; keeping the energy in your adopted home alive (when you don’t have a full house, especially) with the music you play. It’s healing. Makes everyone in the house get a little more energy in their step at the reggae and Caribbean hymns in the background.
Plus, watching Dami’s head bounce to the music when he’s not paying attention is too cute.
Whenever you’re blessed enough to hear (what’s typically) Jason, Steph, or Duke singing familiar lyrics under their breaths or humming well worn and loved tunes, too, you can’t help how your heart swells.
Dick will full on just sing along with you if he’s around, in all his off key glory, and you love that just the same.
You’re in your garden a lot and out of all your kids Cassandra enjoys being out there with you the most. You two often gather from and maintain the garden together in silence. You suspect she likes how visibly non-demanding it is; it gives her brain a break.
Alfred has his roses and you have your produce/aromatics and you share irrigation tips.
You share your beliefs with your crew whenever they ask but are perfectly content to let them choose their own paths in life.
Cass listens to your prayers the most, you don’t think she believes in the Most High (or any ‘higher power’ that people praise for that matter) but you love that she appreciates the messages regardless.
The elites and the press act absolutely ridiculous about you and your natural appearance, but you just don’t pay them no mind and go about your business unbothered. That hatred was their prerogative, not yours; you would not bow to their system, to the machinations of Babylon.
You’re single-handedly making Bruce Wayne (Gotham’s ‘Crown Prince’) smell inarguably like incense; just from him being so obsessed with you and always wanting to be around you as much as possible he’ll smell like any variety of sages to cedars (& etc.).
If there’s anyone that’s going to hasten Wayne Enterprises shifting to more eco friendly practices and renewable energy it’s going to be you. It’s not like you had to do much though, Bruce is pretty advancement friendly on his own.
You start a good amount of community gardens throughout Gotham through W.E. — villians mostly leave them alone outside of Ivy occasionally making the plants mutated enough to ‘come to life’.
NOTES: Hope you enjoyed!!!
I’d like to make it known that most of the information I put here was gained through observation (& some lived experience), but also that while the person I garnered this information from is a Rasta, that they aren’t a particularly ‘traditional’ one, so take that as you will. Also, not every Rasta practices the same way so don’t hold me as a source or anything either.
I’m also a non-Jamaican Caribbean, just fyi.
btw: if you’d like to leave a comment I’d very much appreciate it!

Of course Dick was already in Oracle's tower when Jason arrived there, because lately in this webtoon Dick and Barbara spend a lot of time in each other's place and most of the time it's just the two of them.
As far as we know Dickbabs ain't a couple yet in the Wayne Family's Adventures universe, however I could see a future episode addressing what's going on between them. Here are my two headcanons on how it could go:
A. Actually Dick and Babs have been dating for quite some time but kept it private. So we have an episode where one of the younger bats sees them kissing and then they tell the whole family and we get all sort of hilarious reactions to the ship by the batfamily members.
B. Dick decides to ask Babs on a date but before that he has a meeting with all of his brothers where everyone offers advice on whether they should go on their date. In the end he decides to show her the circus (aka a reference to their iconic date on Birds of Prey issue #8).

Stephanie Brown and Damian Wayne
Damian's drawing of people who loves him personally offended me when i saw the lack of Talia (but fucking Ra was there! So ridiculously absurd), Duke, Jason and more importantly in my opinion the lack of STEPHANIE BROWN! Barbara and Rose Wilson never had the bond he had with Stephanie not even Cassandra and im specially Salty about Maya because all the fuss about the "adoptive sister" That showed up right in the messed up new 52 as if Stephanie wasn't literally the fucking first big sister figure he had, this is so insulting giving the fact that STEPHANIE WAS HIS BATGIRL:
The Batman's no-daughter and Damian first big sister, Steph is a Bat member that is placed along Batman's children but she was never adopted and we could say she is kinda in the same position as Barbara, they can only become official daughters if they become daughters in law.
I firmly believe that Damian can't be placed along all the people that personally wronged Stephanie because... Damian has been an arrogant jerk with absolutely every hero he has met, he looked down on his own father at first, the fucking Batman! So he literally didn't discriminate Stephanie, because even if he tried to insult her saying he was disappointed to see she wasn't Cassandra, when he actually met Cassandra he tried to undermine her as well so to me that comparation doesn't have the same weight as when she was constantly compared to other heroes by other certain characters.
The little time they had together in the Batgirl run was way too precious, the teasing and the banter and how they worked together was so good! Stephanie was so good to him! She got him to be able to behave like a kid because she noticed he didn't even know how to play, she got him to play with him in a bouncing castle, she wanted him to smile, they worked together to save Dicks Batman and i always laugh when Damian teases her about "not having a big chest", Damian dear you were so fixated on that for no reason... Maybe Steph was also his first platonic crush... I think the second was Supergirl 😂😂.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(I miss them when they were like this... I miss them everyday 😭😭😭😭)
DCeased wasn't exactly one of my favorite comics regarding plot but it has a special place in my heart for being currently the only alternative universe that represented this sibling relationship as it was always meant to be until the disappointing death that was supposed to be solved by Talia and never happened as if they forgot.
That universe gave us a beautiful present and that was the very first time someone (wonder girl Cassie) officially acknowledged Stephanie as Damians big sister and not to mention the hug! 🥺🥺🥺 he actually let himself being comforted in her arms and hugged her back, when he saw her he even called her "Steph" Not "Brown" Or "Spoiler/Batgirl" and oh my god she became his Robin 🥲 and to me she is just the perfect Robin to his Batman after all... She was also the Batgirl to his Robin.
Tumblr media
Another thing i want to point out, when Alfred was murdered Dick still didn't have all his memories, Jason was just too angry and Tim didn't do much, Barbara isn't that close to Damian so I think they totally should have used Stephanie here, Damian really could have used a big sister... Again wasting her character but I guess they wanted to use only the closest people to Alfred and sadly it looks like Steph isn't one... But she is an important person to Damian no matter how much DC wants to erase her, she will never dissapear! I can't believe Barbara and Rose Wilson and that pop out of nowhere post new 52 Maya are in that drawing of people who makes Damian feel loved BUT NOT STEPHANIE!! Even the horrible RA is there?! But not his mother or HIS FIRST AND IN MY OPINION BEST BIG SISTER FIGURE STEPHANIE!!! DC YOU HAVE A LOT TO ATONE FOR 😤😤😤😠😠😠😠
Fortunately the author of the webtoon family Wayne adventures has a better understanding of this and gave us the precious moments they deserve:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In my head this is Stephanie with her 3 best boys, the ex, the little platonic brother that might had or might not had a platonic crush on her and who i think is her very soulmate ❤💜

VERY LATE BUT HERE IT IS!!
As a celebration for 500 followers (now 665 jesus christ) im doing a ONE SHOT fic-since this is in celebration of my followers YOU get to pick which fic gets made (though if your pick doesnt win, some might be reused for a future milstone!!)
Related links!!
Drakes Spoiled Brat (my main fic)
Dick & Jason inspo
Bruce mentor post
Anyways now for the rambling
Seriously thank you all so so much- I started this summer already bored out of my mind being out of classes and away from home. But then I got into this fandom. I dont even remember HOW I got into it really- but I had never watched any of the series or anything.
The most experience I had w/ Batman was my grandpas figurine collection and the comics he would let me read as a kid though I never really understood what was going on.
But I learned through fanfiction first and foremost- i picked up on wtf the tower scene was, who was "Oracle" and Ra, and everyone else- and as I wanted to learn more I got into the series and comics themselves.
Ive been writing for years but never considered my stuff GOOD- I could put together a story but I struggled to connect you know?
Drakes spoiled brat?? I had never even heard of the trash count thing it was apparently based on- I stopped reading webtoon as soon as they started locking old finished series, let alone Manhwa.
But I went "Oh that sounds funny-" and the intro?? The champagne glass thing was actually written for a completely DIFFERENT one shot- but I reused it and just went ham. Now im almost 60k in with at least 100k more to go- and on top of that its something im PROUD to have written
I would have been thrilled having just a handful of people who read my shit- but for the outpouring love an support, seriously means the world so thank you <33

hi! i'm new to comics and i got in through reading your fics and wayne family adventures. i've since started reading more of the mainstream verse and i realized that most comic fans consider wfa to be totally fanon. you're one of the few i saw that disagrees. would you mind elaborating a lil on why? i'm too new to really form an opinion either way but i'd like to know your's!
(also yes i really did stalk your blog back years worth of posts i'm sorry! 😭😭)
Aw I love this! Welcome!
So I think it's really important to be clear on definitions here:
Canon means it's part of an official text. It's literally in a comic (or book or movie or other property) published or licensed by DC.
Fanon means it's made up by fans. That doesn't mean bad or good, it just means that it comes from fandom and is not part of the official text.
Wayne Family Adventures is an official licensed comic by DC, so by definition, it cannot be fanon. That doesn't mean everyone has to like it, but it's not a fan comic. It's an official DC product. It's not fanon.
Now, WFA isn't part of the main DCU canon. It takes place in a separate universe. The Jason in Batman #138 and the Jason in WFA are not the same and they are having very different experiences. (And I'm sure the Jason in WFA would be grateful if he knew.)
But that's no different than a comic that takes place in an alternate universe, like Dark Knights of Steel or DCeased, or a movie like Blue Beetle or a show like My Adventures with Superman. They all take place in their own universes, but all of those universes are canon. None of them are fanon.
What I think most people mean when they say WFA is fanon is that WFA draws on tropes and characterizations that are popular in fandom. Which...yes, absolutely. This is on purpose, and honestly, it pisses me off when people complain about it. (Not you, anon! Your question was lovely, you just triggered my unskippable cut scene of dialogue. Sorry lol.)
Wayne Family Adventures is probably the single best idea DC has had in the 20 years I've been reading comics. (The second best was the kids and YA graphic novel lines.)
I just checked, and WFA has 1.3 MILLION subscribers. That's more than every floppy comic starring Batman sells in a month, combined. It's more than literally any superhero comic has sold in decades - in this century! The combined strips have over A HUNDRED MILLION VIEWS. That is bonkerstown. That is a readership like DC hasn't seen since the 1970s. That is unparalleled success, and it's introducing characters like Kate Kane and Duke Thomas to a whole new audience.
Now, WFA was clearly designed to appeal to Batfans who were active on social media and fanfic sites like AO3 and Wattpad, and Webtoon readers. The readership of Webtoon is mostly young and female. Fandom as a whole is mostly female. The writer of WFA is female.
And maybe I'm not being fair here, but when I see people dismiss WFA as "just fanon," I always catch a whiff of "It's not a real Batman comic. It's a girl comic for girls."
I have spent the past 20 years begging DC (and Marvel, DC is not alone in this) to see women as a viable audience - as their largest potential growth audience! I have watched in dumbfounded frustration as they ignored the juggernaut success of Raina Telgemeier and Ngozi Ukazu and Alice Oseman running rings around the NY Times bestseller list and counted a 50k shipment here and there as a resounding triumph. I have literally seen them throw out survey responses from women because "those women had an agenda." (This is a true story. 2011 was rough, y'all.)
And all of a sudden, they gave us a comic actually catering to women and young people and fandom, and they put it on the most popular, current, modern platform for comics availably - and it's brilliant. It's smart and funny and stunningly drawn and every episode makes clever, inventive use of the scrolling format. They FINALLY gave us a girl comic for girls, and it's a masterpiece.
And yes, it riffs on fanon concepts. It also has its roots firmly in mainstream DCU canon. It references deep cuts. CRC Payne and StarBite know their shit. Jason Todd being a bookworm may be a fanon staple, but he does plenty of reading - including Jane Austen - in the 100% canon mainstream DCU comics.
It's not going to be for everything, because nothing is. It's completely fine if you don't like WFA. No one has to read it or enjoy it. If you're into Batman for the darkness and the crime and the ongoing plotlines and the angst, WFA won't be for you, and that's totally fine!
But to finally, finally be valued as a reader by DC, to have them do something smart and innovative and so, so well executed, and have the exact people they made it for dismiss it out of hand because Bruce has a "World's Okayest Dad" mug or whatever? Yeah, that chafes.

"after Tim stops flinching every time Jason enters the room" bitch be fucking for real when has tim EVER flinched at jason?? dude does not have the trauma from their prior interaction y'all desperately want him to have.
Hi there :) Thanks for contributing your thoughts. Here are some notes that might offer clarity on my perspective and intent:
1. Jason was the focus of that post. The part about Tim was a throwaway remark or side note I made to contextualize my post. My intent was to describe how most of Jason's struggles—when he first moved back into Wayne Manor—were likely external, such as his strained familial relationships (I used Bruce and Tim as examples).
2. Which begs the question: what specifically was Tim's relationship with Jason during those first few weeks? Was he traumatized? Or are toxic fans just trying to dramatize the situation?
Like with any scenario involving fandoms and individuals who engage with said fandoms, I think this depends on (a) the person's experiences and (b) where that person gets their information from.
2a. EXPERIENCES: I have actually read the original comic where Jason breaks into Titans Tower, and while Tim handled the situation like a badass in the moment, I can't imagine a world in which someone trying to hurt you to the point where you're slumped on the ground and bleeding out would not be traumatizing.
Where my own experiences came into play was relating to the concept of having a person—who wants, or at one point did want, to hurt you—invade a space where you're supposed to feel safe and protected. For Tim, this would be Titans Tower or Wayne Manor. (For most people, this could be where they live, go to school, or work.)
2b. INFORMATION: The Batman franchise is now incredibly vast and varied, spreading across several different movies, comics, fan theories, and other sources. Most of my perception of Tim is based on what I've seen from the Batfam Webtoon comics (which I'm aware are not actually considered canon, but I love them anyway). This could be part of why our interpretations of Tim are unique.
So upon reflection, I agree that "flinching" might have been a bit strong. My intention was not to magnify Tim's trauma (again, the focus of that post was Jason), but to find a brief way to indicate that Tim might initially have been upset by Jason's presence in the manor considering their past encounters. By prioritizing being concise over being specific, I may have been inaccurate, so I apologize.
At the end of the day, it's important to remember that all of these people are fictional, and that it's okay for several people to have different interpretations and perceptions about the same character.
Hope that clears things up. Thanks again for engaging with my post!

hey it’s me from the Batman posts! (the one that left the tags abt wanting to get into Batman but having no clue where to start)
If its not too much trouble, I’d love any advice on where to start with Batman or Batfam(?) stuff, I saw someone suggest reading the Batman: Wayne Family Adventures thing on webtoon as an intro to the characters so I’ve been doing that, but I’ve got no clue about any of the official comics or shows/movies/etc. I’ve never read a comic series before so everything is super new to me.
I know different series(?)/versions(?) can be wildly different bc of different writers and stuff, I definitely trust your taste on what would be good / enjoyable bc the posts you’ve been reblogging are like 90% of whats gotten me interested in the first place
Thank you, and absolutely no rush!!
Hey I am legit SO happy that you sent me this ask this is literally my favorite thing to do!!!!
So to start with I do actually agree that wfa is a good starting point but for a different reason than I feel most people would recommend it. The thing about wfa is that it has a consistent design for every character, is humorous, touches not only on the main batfamily members but also many extended members, other noteworthy people in Gotham, and the batfamily's cast of friends and teammates as well. This means that while its approach to characterization is incredibly fanon-y, it's a good basis for how to continue. You read wfa, and you know that Dick is the first robin, wears ridiculous costumes, was batman for a bit, is nightwing, part of the teen titans... this isn't a lot, but it's just enough to orient yourself before jumping into some of the most convoluted art ever created, aka the comic world.
Another tip I'm gonna give you is to let yourself be confused. I think the people who end up sticking with comics are people who are aware that if they pick up a comic it's very likely the writers and artists have read and worked on comics that you haven't read yet or even heard of, so you're always going to be missing something. That's fine. If something is really important to the plot, it gets explained; if it's not, it's windowdressing. Often there'll be little boxes saying what comic and issue they're referencing, so if you find it interesting you can just go read it - otherwise, if it's not there, you can google it, or go to any comic fan and ask "hey do you know what this is about?" and if they know, they will answer. There is nothing a comic fan wants more than to explain how to get into their favorite character/s, trust me.
Anyway this has been a very wordy intro but here are some potential starting points for the batfamily!
Bruce Wayne
You know who he is. Pick up an issue of Batman or Detective Comics and he's there. Pick up an issue of any other DC comic and there's like a 30% chance he's there too.
Batman: The Long Halloween
Noir style, investigative, early in batman's career, two face's origin story
It has a sequel-ish story called Batman: Dark Victory that's almost as good
Batman: Hush
Batman: Year One
Frankly there's not going to be much information in this comic you don't already know, but also, it's a classic, so might as well
Batman: A Death in the Family & Batman: A Lonely Place of Dying (crossover with the new teen titans)
First story is Jason's death, second is Tim's introduction and arguably the start of the batfamily being a family
Tim drags Dick back into the fray in ALPOD. It's just sort of the kind of thing he does
Do NOT confuse A Death in the Family with Death OF the Family, which is a much newer story, and Not Good
Batman: Under the Red Hood
Jason's villain arc! More details below
Batman himself isn't actually my favorite but you know he's got some decent stuff since he's, uh, the main character. DC doesn't have a multiverse the way Marvel does - and getting into that would be a whole separate ask - but their elseworlds are stories about the characters in different situations. Some ones I've heard good things about include Gotham by Gaslight, Dark Knights of Steel, Batman: Last Knight on Earth, and I keep meaning to get into Batman: White Knight, which is a whole other universe on its own. I've been trying to get into more modern batman stuff and unfortunately I just haven't clicked with anything.
Dick Grayson
Guy has been in a lot of things. If you read a random Batman comics from before 1980, there's a good chance he'll be there.
Teen Titans and The New Teen Titans and Titans (1980s-2000s)
I haven't read enough of these to say much of anything, but he's a founding member of the TT
Nightwing
His post-Robin superhero identity. At first only present in NTT and occasional Batman comics, but eventually he gets his own miniseries in the early 90s, followed by an ongoing. Recently-ish started reading them and they're angsty and very 90s in a lot of ways but I'm enjoying it
Modern Nightwing titles also exist. For sure.
Batman & Robin by Morrison
In one of DC's ten million crises, Bruce "dies", and after a short story called Battle for the Cowl, Dick ends up becoming Batman. Damian is his Robin. It's an interesting time for batman comics, although not necessarily the best writing that Dick has ever gotten.
Batman: The Dark Mirror
Also a great story for the Gordons. Bruce is back from the dead, but Dick is still Batman in Gotham. This was my first even Batman comic and it's really good.
Obviously there's other stories, such as Grayson, where he becomes a super spy for a bit. There's a million and a half reading lists for Dick out there as he's a massively popular character and he's one of the characters DC is pushing the most right now. As with all the rest of these, these are good entry points; from there I trust you to find your way
Barbara Gordon
The original Batgirl, sort of (nobody really brings up bette kane unless they're pointing out that babs wasn't the original Batgirl, she's just not important). She appears sporadically in silver and bronze age batman comics and detective comics, but she quits being Batgirl shortly before being raped and shot in the spine by the joker in Batman: the Killing Joke, which I purposefully did not put on my rec list.
Birds of Prey
Babs-as-Oracle at her best.
Batman: The Dark Mirror
Babs' long lost brother comes back to town. It's fucked up.
I've been reliably told to stay away from her Batgirl runs - most people who are a fan of the character don't like that they retconned Oracle away and it's mostly not very well written. There's a comic called batgirls that lasted about a year that included her, and it's okay.
Jason Todd (my beloved)
MY MAN
Batman: Second Chances
Collected edition of Jason as Robin, so much fun. Extremely silly at times since it's the 80s.
Batman: A Death in the Family
For obvious reasons.
Then he's just sort of dead for 17 years. He shows up in heaven in a Green Arrow issue and is occasionally brought up or shown as a hallucination, but that's about it.
Batman: Under the Red Hood
There's a new crime lord in town and he's so smart and talented and hot omg I wonder who he is!!!!
The collected edition also comes with the annual that reveals how he came back to life
Task Force Z
This shouldn't be as good as it is.
Jason gets recruited to work with a team of undead villains
Jason gets called a hot a bunch of times, and is shirtless a lot. This doesn't matter but you know, like, yeah it does.
For Robin!Jason there's also Batman: The Cult - which I finally got my hands on recently but haven't read yet. For Red Hood!Jason there's lots of stuff, but most of it isn't very good or is actively bad. Most people will tell you to stay away from Red Hood and the Outlaws, and they're right, although the 2016 run is better. Most people will tell you to read Batman & Red Hood: Cheer, and they're wrong, it's ass.
Tim Drake
Frankly this boy has no flops. Or very close to it.
Batman: A Lonely Place of Dying
Tim figured out who Batman and Robin are at AGE NINE. Respect.
After this he appears in various Batman and detective comics issues, I haven't read any of these.
Robin
The first Robin to get his own ongoing! Like with Nightwing, it started with a miniseries (a few of them, actually) and got turned into a long running series from there. Lasted like 200 issues, too.
Tim FUCKS.
Not Steph's first appearance, but most of her appearances pre-2009 are in this series.
Young Justice 1998
It's insane in all the best ways. Cars have sex on panel. They play baseball to save the world on an alien planet. A power of friendship speech prevents the end of the world. In the first issue, a woman develops breasts so big she falls on her face.
This team eventually breaks apart and Tim along with 3 other teen heroes nicknamed the core four (Superboy, Impulse, & Wonder Girl II) become part of Teen Titans 2003, which I haven't read and is also a bit of a flop era fashion wise for everyone anyway. I do have the volume of TT03 where they meet the versions of themselves from the future and I plan on reading that soon-ish.
In the mid 2000s basically everyone Tim loves dies. Steph died in 2004 ish after a very short stint as Robin. Tim's mom dies, then his dad is murdered, and it's unclear what happened to his step mom, but she was in Bludhaven, which had an atomic bomb dropped on it. Impulse becomes kid flash becomes the flash becomes murdered, and superboy gets killed while saving the world. Steph does turn out to not be dead after all and Impulse and Superboy come back from the dead eventually but by God he's having a tough year BEFORE Bruce "dies".
Red Robin 2009
After Bruce "dies" and Dick becomes Batman, Dick makes Damian his Robin and nobody believes Tim that Bruce is still alive, so he steals the Red Robin costume and goes on a mission to save his dad!
Not a comic to read first because it's so uncharacteristic of Tim as a person, but definitely something to read as soon as possible, because it's ridiculously good.
After flashpoint/n52 Tim doesn't have his own ongoing for a while, but he does come out as bisexual in an early issue of Batman Urban Legends (2021) and he got his own ongoing called Tim Drake: Robin in 2022 which was ugly AF and yet cancelled far too soon. There's a Young Justice run from 2019 I haven't read yet.
Stephanie Brown
For her I would go to Google, bc I haven't gone down the rabbithole enough for her yet. I know her first appearance was in a batman comic where she became spoiler to spoil her dad's plans - her dad being a third rate villain called the cluemaster - and she almost kills him, so good for her. Afterwards she appears every once in a while in various comics, most notably in Robin, where she and Tim as Robin start dating despite him knowing her identity but not the other way around.
Robin 60s (I don't remember the exact issues)
Steph gives birth and gives her baby up for adoption
Robin 126-128
Steph becomes Robin when Tim quits for his still-alive-but-not-for-long dad.
War Games
Steph does a fucky wucky and accidentally starts a gang war which gets her killed
There's another Robin arc where she comes back and it turns out she was never dead, Leslie (the family doctor) simply faked her death and sent her to Africa to recover
Batgirl 2009
Her first and only solo ongoing, but it's really good
She also appears a lot in Cass's Batgirl ongoings, and occasionally shows up in yj98. Her most recent series in Batgirls, which isn't very good but her interactions with Cass are very gay, and we've all been shipping it for 20 years at this point, so frankly it's long overdue. Unlikely to become canon tho, unfortunately.
Cassandra Cain
She doesn't use a lot of words, so neither will I. Probably.
No Man's Land
Frankly I am terrified to read this, it's so many goddamn issues, but this is her first appearance. I have one "volume" and it's as big as the fucking Bible.
Batgirl 2000
She's the first Batgirl to get an ongoing. The one from 2008 I've been reliably told isn't very good. She's absolutely terrifying in the 2000 one, I approve.
Outsiders 2016
Supposed to also be good for Duke content. I think at this point she's going by Orphan? Idk she's had a lot of names.
Idk I prefer Black Bat
Spirit World
Mini series that recently ended. Soooooo good. Alyssa Wong is a top contender for favorite modern writer.
She's mostly a background character. Bc DC is both sexist AND racist. She was also in batgirls.
Damian Wayne
Frankly he's my least favorite of the batkids, but that's not his fault, he's been a victim of a lot of really racist writing.
Batman: Son of the Demon
Somehow both his origin AND an elseworlds that doesn't count. Not required reading, but Bruce and Talia are madly in love in this.
Batman by Grant Morrison
After UTRH and before Dick was forced to become Batman Morrison reintroduced Talia's son, who in this version was a rape baby bc apparently brutalia weren't in love and Talia drugged Bruce. Fucking fine, I guess.
His character growth during his time as robin is sweet tho.
Robin 2021
His only solo ongoing, pretty good
Super Sons
He had two team up comics with then fellow child Jon Kent, son of superman, and it was fucking adorable. Then they aged up Jon to 17, so they're still friends, but Jon has his own shit going on.
Duke Thomas
He's REALLY new, and I haven't read any of it, I'm sorry.
Robin War
Batman and the Signal - I finally got my hands on the first issue of this last week!
The Outsiders 2016
Frankly they should capitalize on the Duke & Cass friendship/siblingship more often.
Alfred Pennyworth
I haven't read it, but there's a series called Pennyworth about his days as a spy for the crown. Supposed to be pretty good.
Kate Kane
The Jewish lesbian batwoman of our dreams
Batwoman: Elegy
Her introduction
Also, it's written by Greg Rucka, and if he can do one thing, it's write sapphic women. I'm not even joking.
Get the newer edition that has both of her original Rucka stories
Batwoman ongoings
She's had a couple, they're both supposed to be pretty solid, I've only read a few issues here and there
Batman in other media
Animated: I'm currently watching Batman the Animated Series for the first time and it seems to really get Bruce as a character, even if Robin will be there one episode and his existence will be a plot hole in the next. The Justice League animated series has also been fun so far. Teen Titans have gotten a number of animated adaptations all of which have pretty strong followings. There's an animated show called "Young Justice" which is a Teen Titans show and I refuse to watch it (it has a very devout following, but all that means is that the Young Justice - All Media Types tag on ao3 is just the same as Young Justice Cartoon and I have to filter heavily when looking for yj98 fics). Lego Batman is a REALLY fun film, and I think it turned into a whole franchise.
Live action TV: I have watched the first season of both Titans and Gotham, but both of those were before I was into the batfamily as a concept. My impression of Titans is overall negative and my impression of Gotham is overall positive.
Live action movies: There are so many Goddamn Batman movies. I like the Dark Knight Trilogy, but even calling it "based on" the Dark Knight comic trilogy is giving it a lil more credit than it deserves. The Batman 2022 is massively popular with the comic fandom for a reason - I'm not a big fan of it, but I did enjoy laughing at the movie so at least there's that. Batfleck sucks. I haven't seen anything else, up to and including the Joker movie. Oh, and Birds of Prey was really good, but that's not Cass.
Video games: The Arkham trilogy is well loved and I have indeed just bought it, but I haven't gotten to it because I'm currently working on Gotham Knights and uh. Okay so listen. This game is a lot of fun and I will be finishing it. But it's like. Got a massively antisemitic plot point. I can't even say I don't recommend it, I'm genuinely enjoying the game a lot. But I've never seen anybody bring this up, and it's bugging me.
ANYWAY I'm sure I've missed a LOT but this is introductory so you know I'm giving myself grace. There's characters I completely skipped and I'm sure mega fans of characters I haven't read much of will be offended that I said such and such about them but you know it's only been about a year and a half since I started reading dc comics and I'm still figuring it all out. And I probably will still be figuring it out for the next decade. To me that's actually part of the fun of it.

what is even going on with the red hood webtoon. i just saw a random panel of robin jason beating up harvey and bruce lecturing him about it, claiming that it was some pattern... so here is a friendly reminder that the actual 80s storyline (both versions of them! barr’s and collins’) with jay & two-face has always been about forgiveness. it is a direct parallel to stories of bruce and later dick seeking revenge. and it has always been incredibly explicit that this story was special because jason’s anger was rare. and it did not last for long, because it was a test of morality that ended with jay passing it. mercy and kindness won. one more comic retconning this storyline and maybe i myself will start killing people instead. leave him alone. get another job. never write again

I'm the anon who called you sweet angel 😚 Sorry for my poor English, I'm from Brazil so- 🥹
The first time I heard about Jason was through my boyfriend. He was telling me about his favorite characters and what he liked most about them and then he told me about Jason and his whole story and damn-
I was devastated.
I just wanted to hug him and say “I’m so sorry”
(And that's probably the thing Jason wants to hear most, you know? He's been through so much. He's been so broken. He deserves some comfort.)
I instantly became very attached to him. This poor boy- How can everything about him be so sad? I was truly heartbroken. Jason is just- someone give him some affection FOR GOD SAKE
I'm glad you write so well about him 😭 He deserves the world and more
Your English is great, babe!
Oh my gosh, I actually used to have a HUGE crush on Dick Grayson for the majority of my life, but I've *always* had a soft spot for Jason (everytime someone says his name, I'll just throw my head back and wail "Jaaaassssooooonnnnn!!!!" It's my canon, you can ask my siblings 🤣). And then I started reading the Wayne Family Adventures comic on Webtoons and hello?! What is this beautiful characterisation of Jason?!! OH AND I SAW THIS ONE EDIT ON INSTAGRAM THAT COMPLETELY TURNED MY HEAD, BUT I THINK THE PERSON DELETED IT BECAUSE I CAN'T FIND IT ANYMORE 😭😭😭😭😭!!!!!
I always get so happy when people say I write Jason really well!!! 🥰🥰🥰 I feel I don't do as well for Miguel, but his story is also a little ... convoluted? 'Cause he's been re-written a few times, from what I know 🤔.

Imma give u my Jason Todd head canons because I’m making sims and I’m bored also we’ve talked about some of these but I have more
- Jason has hearing aids because of the explosion and the Lazarus pit could only fix so much
- Since the pit gave him like enhanced everything (?) when he got out he grows hair super fast to the point he needs to shave every other week or he looks like a actual bear
- He has a nose piercing but wears one of those clear plastic ones and you can’t really tell unless you look real close he also used to have his ears pierced but they were annoying to real with while he wore his helmet
- I feel like he’s bi curious but with a preference for women, I feel like he never really explored being into men when he was alive cause he was always busy with being Robin and would hang out with Bruce or Alfred if wasn’t till he came back the second time and had more friends was when he actually started to explore his sexuality more
- Hispanic
ok i’m gonna nitpick at my fave ones!!
- mmm hairy jason todd 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️ imagine him subtly cutting back on the shaving bc he notices that you like it <3 no full beard on his face though. just that scruffy look that i love + the happy trail
- i like jason with the ear piercings he has in his webtoon. eventually he takes them out but occasionally puts some of them back on for sexy dates
- i’ve always seen him as a woman lover and i can get down with bi-curious! the attraction to men doesn’t happen often (or he doesn’t realize it) but i can imagine very small things pique his interest every now and then. me and other anons have talked about his sexuality before and at first i was iffy on it but i kinda like discussing this now lol

Wait... Does anyone have an AU where Jason was taken out from under Bruce's wing by Dick and he got permission to share the Flamebird mantle from Clark and Jimmy?
I was thinking about how it's a shame that the duo nature of the names has mostly been forgotten to the point of Jimmy just having the name pre-Kandor in MAwS. And then I started thinking about how, in Webtoon RHatO, Jason picks a phoenix for his new symbol as the series is ending. A literal bird of flames.
Like... He still gets the red theming, you get to explore the difference in how Dick and the Titans raise Jason contrasted to how Bruce (and Alfred and Talia trying his best to fill the gaps) did. Does he see Roy and Garth as older brothers in this world? Does he do reckless hijinks with Gar and Wally? Does Wally completely lose track of who anyone means when they say "Jay" in conversations? Does Dick keep him alive, or does Slade become Jason's resurrection & villain arc catalyst? Does Jason come to love Bludhaven or does he have to throw himself back into Gotham and get closure before he can be mentally in the present anywhere really? Does he still say "Oh my goodness gracious, I've been bamboozled!"? Does Dick go back to school after Jason graduates? Does Jason make Dick question the whole cop day job thing?
Tim ends up even more of a question mark if both Robins officially distance from Batman. Like... Does the fanboy follow to the Titans and stay, or does he still try to get someone to be Robin and get mixed up in it himself? Or is that whole scenario avoided as Nightwing gives Bruce a gentle talk about needing a support system of his peers instead of a father figure he won't call one and a series of children he doesn't have the support system to help as-is and Bruce gets like... The Outsiders into Gotham and opens up to Jim and stuff?
Tho also there's always the preexisting alternative Robin even if Bruce isn't building a team of peers he actually talks to... Anarky was introduced to be a new Robin before Tim, and it would certainly be interesting to see how he'd fit into the role, especially with a Bruce that's questioning what the role should even be. He'd still be dealing with a very intelligent kid with lots of attitude and questions for authority right after Jason left when someone actually answered some honestly. There'd be tension between Bruce's set in ways, his guilt, and his desire to do the best he can by this kid. And the kid himself had a lot of potential development set up in early stages that instead kinda just became "actually this kid can just do anything, fuck it" for a bit, then he got dropped. Like... He already mirrors where Jason went in the main continuity in some ways, so exploring him trying to fill those shoes (but ultimately realizing he should've been being himself the whole time) in a world where Jason is on a different path could be neat.
Also random sidenote, thinking about who else might hero in Gotham reminded me that Jay Garrick was based in Gotham way back when... Would be interesting to see an exploration of a world where Batman is the current hero of Gotham and the Flash was the one before him and how the eras differ and what factors led to that.

I FOUND AN ARTIST WILLING TO DO MY ALTERNATE CONCEPT STORY OF TSATS.
Which is basically just another story entirely.
I made a post a couple days ago about how much I was disappointed in The Sun and The Star (like the plot and everything) so I just typed out an alternate concept of the story entirely in like ten minutes.
A lot of people seemed to like the idea of it being Hazel that goes with Nico and the Bob thing being a misdirect. So I went searching to see if I could find an artist on instagram AND BITCH I FOUND ONE ACTUALLY WILLING.
At first I messaged a bunch of more popular artists but didn’t get a response. So I drifted around for HOURS messaging newer smaller creators. Until I found a webtoon artist willing to draw it. I had to type out my concept again and send it to them and apparently they liked it.
THEY SENT ME THIS AN HOUR AGO AND CALLED THEM ‘ROUGH SKETCHES’
Tumblr media
I KNOW BITCH. Jason looks INSANE. I’m crying again. In a good way this time. They are apparently a pjo fan but said they hadn’t read the toa series or tsats, but that they have always loved hazel and Nico and said they were the reason they agreed lol.
This is their instagram though. THEIR ART IS INSANE.
Tumblr media
Tell me what you guys think.
message the artist for more info and stuff

the way the batfam webtoon illustrates bat fam is pretty much exactly how I'd always pictured them all in my head (but funnily enough never how they looked in the actual comics). What is your head cannon for how they all look?
i also tend to align with the WFA character designs in general! especially jason, that’s the jason in my head. very handsome & wears a belt bag just like mine 💪 i also appreciate that WFA, unlike a lot of the traditional comics, is pretty clear on the fact that damian is not white.
beyond that/more specifically, i always picture tim as @tigerjpg’s tim and @mammutblog’s tim. (side note: ditto for diana.) i also tend to headcanon tim as trans. also in line with mammutblog’s design, i picture steph with some curves/tummy rolls (not sure if they posted that art but it was v cute). cass always has her medium-length haircut when i picture her. babs is oracle babs. i know canonically dick has blue eyes but in my mind they’re brown. most important thing to me about bruce is that once the cowl comes off, no matter how exhausted and beat up he is he’s just undeniably pretty, for maximum vibe shift.
beyond the batfam, kon in my mind is almost always leather jacket flavor kon, and he has curly hair + the earring (if not multiple earrings). i also differ with WFA on bart & cassie’s designs for sure; i see bart closer to his usual comics vibe (big wild hair!) and cassie has short hair/leans butch a la some of cryptocism and coralreefskim’s cassies. clark looks like MAWS clark + @januariat’s clark (the ones of farm boy clark from a while ago have lived rent free in my head ever since i saw them).
there are also so many incredible fan artists with different takes on these characters that make me go !!! that’s them!! so while i have defaults in my mind i am always just happy to see a really cool interpretation/redesign. if official comics can have 50 different appearances for the same character then i think fan artists can have 500 different improved versions of those characters and i’m here for it.
