Jaskier had always liked to gripe about Roach's ornery disposition, a trait Geralt had found appeal in prior to it being directed at him with all the force of a summer sun.

That or his horse had simply been cursed to disobey absolutely anything and everything he said.

Left means circle this tree crop five times before ripping the reins from his hand and taking off at a ball-crushing trot rightward.

The barest nudge of his heels to encourage more than a slovenly walk means dump his ass on the roadside and shit by his splayed legs for good measure.

Its by the fourth day that he knows the path she is trying to follow because it is the one he is trying so hard not to, and his heart breaks just that little more, but it is fair, he knows. Jaskier's heart has broken for him more times than he might ever hope to repair it.

She, much like he, swings between anger and sadness like a pendulum in a storm. His fingers bleed from her teeth and her ears hang low when rainfall washes the last of his scent from her mane. They share it, this misery, with no trilling songbird between them to chase it away.

They fight.

He is tired of fighting. He fights the world, and now he fights his horse. His is the enemy side in this battle and there is no win to be hard-fought for. There is nothing to be hard-fought for anymore, not with all that gilded him gone.

They are late to winter. He fights her for every step North, slow and unwilling like the way the frosts thaw in spring. She turns a baleful eye on him each inch closer.

You promised to bring him here this winter, she says with pinned ears. We were going to show him the frozen waterfalls together, she reminds him with her teeth. They were going to love him, she accuses with the force of the frigid ground jarring his shoulder.

Winter is long.

Winter is quiet, once they learn asking about your bard yields no answers.

Winter is lonely.

Winter is over.

He bears it.

Spring will be lonelier this year still.

I want a post mountain break-up fic where Roach is mad at Geralt and making it difficult for him, like ‘oh you want to keep going today, hmm not me Imma sit my horse ass down and not move’ or ‘you want to go the opposite direction than Jaskier’s scent? Too bad I only know that way’ and even though she’s a horse, she’s roach so she gives Geralt ‘I’m disappointed in you’ looks

Okay so after the mountain breakup and makeup, jaskier has a new horse. He super excited to introduce Geralt “horse girl” Riviera to his sweetheart of a horse, Pegasus. He talk about how well mannered and precious his horse is; and how he just had to buy him off of his old owners who didn’t treat him right — “ I mean they didn’t even give him apples, Geralt, who does that?? —

Geralt is expecting a dainty normal horse, maybe with ribbons in his hair, like his owner. But they get to the stables and jaskier skips over to this behemoth of a war horse. (I’m thinking like a shire horse type breed).

Jaskier is just absolutely besotted with the “sweetheart” and Geralt is petrified. This horse is bigger than roach. It’s glaring at Geralt with the rage of hellfire. Geralt is like 57% sure it’s a hell horse.

It’s also super protective of jaskier and it hates Geralt. Pegasus is always moving in between the two and when Jaskier starts giving Geralt attention Pegasus whines and Jaskier will go back to him.

Geralt is not jealous no matter what anyone says. He tries to tell Jaskier about how his demon horse keeps glaring at him and bumping him off the road. But everytime he tries to point it out Pegasus has the most innocent look on his face.

It would be so funny to see a horse and a Witcher try and fight for Jaskier attention

Jaskier was pretty good student than Geralt thought, but he was a dirty player beyond that.

The truth was that Jaskier was the result of a child's surprise. Surprisingly, his grateful parents discovered that the witcher who claimed him never returned to collect.

Years later, at Kaer Morhen, everyone is shocked to learn that it was Lambert—drunk at the time—who had invoked the law of surprise.

Now, Lambert is taken quite seriously as Jaskier’s "Papa," and he’s constantly angry with Geralt. His words are clear: "You’re no good for my child," or "Never speak to me or my son again."

No matter how many times Jaskier insists that Lambert isn’t his father, it makes no difference.
