Yeah, it happened again in 2023.

The moment I finished binging this show I was thinking about writing about it and re-watching it. This is a sure sign that I adored a piece of media. 

This is a wonderful BL.

Truly well executed, with smooth filming and lovely acting, both of a simplistic style that felt slightly more Korean than it did Japanese. It reminded me a little bit of Seven Days and a little bit of Takara and Amagi, and since these are my two favorite high school JBLs obviously I was bound to adore ICRY.

But what it reminded me of more than anything was Cherry Blossoms After Winter.

Odd for JBL and KBL to be so closely linked. 

Like CBAW show, ICRY is classic live action yaoi.

Like the MOST classic of CLASSIC.

All the JBL tropes. I mean look at that image above? It's rooftop assignation, kabedon, and a handhold ALL AT ONCE.

There was also multiple runnings of the gays, surprise kisses (one on a bridge), and shoulder leans.

There is even a “seme looses control to desire” scene which leads to dub con. There is an abject apology after but still - you’ve been warned. 

The premise is: smart sporty hot (and hella gay) Yamato has a long standing crush on his silly sunshine sweetheart bestie, Kakeru. Yamato is also stiff, self isolated, shy, and has only ever really managed to get along with Kakeru. I love this kind of pining seme so damn much, it probably biased me. 

Unlike most uke, Kakeru starts to slowly figure out that his best friend is in love with him by ep 2 (let the chaos bisexual identity crisis commence).

So do some of the friends around them.

The story thus revolves around Yamato trying to unsuccessfully suppress his desire, and Kakeru trying to figure out if he can return Yamato‘s affection.

This biggest barrier is actually Kakeru's feelings of inadequacy and unworthiness (when compared to Yamato). But this is tempered by his genuine kindness which forces him into act with integrity around his dear friend's love and strive to fix everything (even himself) to prove worthy of it - whether he can ultimately return it or not.

Kakeru's struggles are pitted against Yamato‘s repressed need that keeps bubbling over and figuratively (sometimes literally) attacking Kakeru with romantic, emotional, and physical intensity. 

Quick pitch:

This classic friends-to-lovers BL is everything Japan does best. Angsty. Emo. Aching. Driven by real thirst. Yamato is deeply in love with his childhood bestie, Kakeru, and has been for ages, unable to hide his ungainly damaging high school need. He wants Kakeru in every way possible and it oozes off of the screen. Kakeru is silly and a little simple, but not frenetic or overly camp about it. He is earnest, and genuinely wants to keep Yamato in his life which means giving a romance (and gayness) a fair chance. We watch him realize his affection and what form it can take in a truly authentic way. This show was impossibly kind to both of its lead characters and I felt almost honored that I got to watch something so lovely and rare play out on my screen.

I’m not gonna lie, I dithered over whether to give this a 10/10 and nearly didn’t. But there is nothing wrong with it AS A BL.

And it's so GOOD to ALL of its characters and they are so good to each other. It's quiet, and because of that and its goodness, it will get overlooked, but I LOVED IT.

It's not one of those that BL outsiders will get and you must like Japan's style to enjoy it. But I'm in it. It's for me.

What am I hung up over? Even the kisses are good.

GMMTV 2025 Tier List

Overall, I was very pleased with this year’s line-up. I think it’s the most solid line-up we’ve seen from GMMTV, possibly ever, and the people complaining about it are simply never going to be satisfied by anything GMMTV does. 

A break-down of my S and A tiers can be found below the cut:

Ticket to Heaven (S): I was raised in a Southern Baptist church which, for those unfamiliar with the different sects of Christianity in America, is basically a cult. I have a lot of unprocessed and unhealed religious trauma that still fucks me up to this day, but for some reason, I gravitate towards shows like this that show gay characters overcoming the struggles I’m still fighting. I’m very excited for this one and I think it’s perfectly cast. It’s giving me ITSAY meets Your Name Engraved Herein vibes and will probably make me cry, but I’m not mad about it.

Girl Rules (S): Toxic Yuri? Yes, please! To be quite honest, I’ve never been a huge MilkLove fan, but this trailer totally changed my mind. I think I just haven’t vibed with the characters they’ve played in the past because Love in this??? Oh my god. She’s going to kill me. All of the girls were hot and horny. What more could you ask for?

Dare You to Death (S): Listen. Do y’all remember that Amazon show Panic? I was obsessed with it for no obvious reason because I’m pretty sure it wasn’t even gay, but this is giving me that and I literally cannot wait. I also adore that they’ve finally let JoongDunk switch up their roles so that Joong is the one that actually gets to emote this time because boy does he look pretty when he smiles. 

Cat for Cash (A): Oh my god it’s so soft 😭 The found family feels are getting to me. I think it’s very obvious from this trailer that they only have concepts of a script right now, but I have high hopes that this could be something really special. P’Au was the director of MSP which is one of my favorite BLs of all time. He’s been stuck doing Japanese adaptations this year, which I don’t think he likes or excels at, but I’m excited to see him tackle an original script in the genre he’s most comfortable with. He’s P’Aof’s protege and their styles are very similar. 

Love You Teacher (A): This is my “hear me out” of the day. Age regression isn’t a trope I’m familiar with and I do have some reservations, but boy did this trailer make me feel things. If this was just a basic amnesia plot, it would probably be S tier for me. I think it was perfectly cast and I’m willing to reserve judgment until I see the finished product. P’Dome of Peaceful Property fame is directing, so I’m expecting that same brand of “romcom” where it’s actually not a romcom at all and instead makes you cry every single episode.

Only Friends: Dream On (A): I was going to put this in B tier, but EarthMix fucking on stage in an empty theater bumped this up to an A for me. I fully expect to enjoy this version of Only Friends more than the original because the original stressed me the fuck out. This time, I have no skin in the game and can just sit back and enjoy the ride.

Melody of Secrets (A): I’ve watched this trailer like four times and I still have no clue what’s happening, but I like the vibes. ForceBook proved in Peaceful Property that they can take on a serious script and I’ve always felt that Book especially is highly underrated as an actor. I’m excited to see them branch out and try something different.

The bells above the door chime as you enter the familiar outlet. It always feels like you need more of those pillows and today you've concluded that two isn't just gonna cut for you.

"Welcome, are you ready to have the best sleep?" It's their catchphrase that you didn't pay attention the last time from a somewhat unfamiliar voice and face.

It's not that you're disappointed or anything (or it's not like you're expecting another Japanese staff to assist you, right?). If it is something, you're actually awestruck at her visuals. The simplistic approach of her make-up just accentuates her natural beauty even more.

"My name is Kazuha, you can call me Zuha. What can I help you with?" She smiles once more as you just stood there lost of words.

"Oh sir!" Now a familiar call from somewhere woke you up from your trance.

You and Zuha look over and see the adorable Japanese pillows–woman! Japanese woman approaching the two of you. Her smile didn't leave her face even after she's finally right in front of you.

"You're back, did something happen with the pillows?" Rei asks.

Respectfully your eyes wander towards her lower regions for some reason and that fraction of a pause didn't go unnoticed by the two ladies. A fake cough from Zuha wakes you up from your daydream as you did your best to focus on the matter.

"Uh... yeah... I mean no! There's nothing wrong with them. I'm a-actually here f-for..." Your words got caught up in your throat.

"Me?" Rei jokingly finishes as you two awkwardly laugh at each other.

"Uhm, I'm here to p-purchase m-more, if it's okay?" You clarified as Zuha and Rei's eyes light up upon hearing of a potential sale.

You could've guessed that ever since what happened to you and Rei that there shouldn't really be anything awkward between the two of you and to prove that Rei quickly jumps onto you, clinging tightly as she presses her soft body against your arm.

"Let's go then, sir~?" Again with a little cute fade at the end, as her smile flashes and it gives you flashbacks of your first time here.

You couldn't help but notice though the other lady in the room. As you and Rei look back at Zuha who's standing there in awe at the relationship you two have. Rei waves at her before saying; "Watch the store for me."

Clearly seeing the annoyance at Zuha's face that these two don't really get alongside each other. A light tug at your arm signals you to walk but you keep glancing back to see Kazuha's face who seems disappointed. You could say the sale incentives might be something that comes to play with this, but that's clearly not all of it.

"I'm so happy that you're back..." Rei comments as she continues to lead you to the back office of the store.

"Make yourself comfortable, I'll be back with the products. Oh gosh! I know you'll love them and I'm so excited to show them to you." Hearing the enthusiasm in her voice really does make you excited as well and remember your first time here. while you're sitting down on the very neat white couch.

Not even a minute in. Rei comes back with a couple of pillows in hand. You're stunned to see the variety of styles and the visible differences between the products. Not just the sizes but the sheer materials of it are visibly different.

"So, these new ones just came in..." Rei starts presenting them.

Handing you one to try and feel the undeniable comfort in your hand. As you're feeling the product's quality, your mind then starts thinking of something else and it really doesn't help when that something else is right in front of you.

"So? How's it sir?" Rei scoots forward excitedly and you can't help but focus on the way her meaty legs jiggles with her movements.

"U-uhhm... They l-look g-great..."

"Oh... H-how about the materials sir?"

"T-they uh... yeah, feels great."

Those half-assed answers weren't really enough for Rei, as she traces your line of sight and realizes where your focus is on. Knowing what's distracting you from getting the full experience she quickly thought of a solution.

"Do they really feel great sir?" Rei suddenly closes in your personal space even more to the point where her body is pressing against your shoulder.

"T-they d-do..." You might've swallowed a whole gallon of saliva, as you try to form the right words for a response.

"Oh really, I was just about to say..."

"These are made of one hundred percent authentic Japanese materials." Now you're torn between the pillows or her thighs pressed against your arm but either way you're taking something home and it'd be nice if you can take both home.

"T-they a-are?" Your voice might've just cracked mid sentence due to your nerves but that's not the point.

With that Rei moves her lips closer to your ear before whispering; "Yes sir, and the biggest feature of these is that they are water resistant."

There goes Rei with her patent adorable fading voice as her hot breath brushes against your ear. You sit there, heart pounding as her hand lands on your shoulder before slowly sliding down to your chest as she continues; "Do you want another demo sir?"

With no words forming in your head you just decided to nod and this was enough for Rei, as she jumps on top of you. Her healthy legs trapping yours on the spot as she reaches for the pillow in your hand before chucking it like it was nothing.

"We'll begin the demo now sir." Her sultry voice trickles your ears.

Her hands skillfully find yours, her delicate fingers intertwining with yours as she slowly guides them to her hips. You shudder at first contact as if touching something so rare, well it is.

"W-wow." Might as well insert the Owen Wilson meme as you're too amaze to say anything else.

A proud smile comes across Rei's face seeing your eyes almost popping out. Just as then, you realized. She's still wearing a hoodie that's really obscuring the real feel of her body.

Rei can clearly see the frustration settling in on you and as a good customer service, she decides to oblige and provide you a better feel.

She removes her stuffy hoodie instantly and presents you with her slim hip and her voluptuous chest. Your drool almost slipping out and with a huge slurp that causes Rei to let out such an adorable chuckle that contrasts such a lustful body.

With her top hugging her figure so much almost as if they were about to pop, you couldn't help but just stare and obviously this isn't what Rei wanted her product to be experienced as.

Now with a firm goal of proving her product's exquisite quality, she takes your motionless hands and guides it up to her chest. Palming both healthy clothed pillows giving it a good squeeze, as Rei had to bite her lip to suppress her moan.

"C-can you feel it, sir?" Your hunger for her has now reached an all time high. As her soft spoken voice enters your eardrums.

"F-fuck." You mumbled.

Rei's hands captured your head before plunging you straight onto her chest. Her soft cushion catches you just fine as she then lowers her mouth closer to your ear as she whispers; "Later sir."

You can clearly see in your peripheral that she's smirking proving that she intends to do what you're proposing. just as then regret start to settle in as you've slowly realize how you're still in between her soft goodies and even then Rei starts pressing her mounds together trapping you even more.

And so you did what every sane person would do in this situation, you start kissing the in between of her orbs. Tasting the packed goodness of her skin was really something else. Gyokko is conflicted, he likes the gothic style, adores it even. The themes, the dark colors, the uniqueness, it's a great asthetic. But it's not his asthetic. He likes colors, soft patterns, brightness. And of course Gyokko can't have it if it's not about himself, not that he minds. "Some things must be loved from afar. It's like art, you are not supposed to interact or be part of it if you are not the artist. You are just supposed to appreciate it."

He fully supports the way you look, the way you dress, and he might try to wear dark make up every once in a while with you doing it as a bonding experience, if you have something really nice then jewelry is a must, specially the choker (he feels sexy with it)... but besides that, he would barely touch it. Hantengu:

It suits you, he doesn't have any strong opinion about it besides that. If that is what you want to wear, please do. But he got to admit there are things he is rather intimidated by in your style, the dark colors everywhere and memento mori themes are one of those.

He would not let you near with any of your things, not even the nail painting. Still, he would be plainty supportive of you expressing yourself. He is ok with the lipstick, though, it causes no harm.

Sekido:

Sekido is ok with it, it's the way you express yourself and dress is none of his business. He doesn't really like it but still thinks it's much better than dressing like Karaku or Urogi. He doesn't mind anything you do tl yourself as long as you like it.

And if you ever think of lending him something... don't, at best he will not use it, at worst he will give it to Urogi or Karaku and you will never see that piece of clothing/jewelry again. And try to put any make up on him he will literally have you shocked untill you pass out. Also, please clean the lipstick off if you want a kiss, he doesn't like them that messy.

Karaku:

Karaku thinks it's beautiful and sexy, he loves it a lot and is unafraid to say it. The second he saw you he said "Damn, you're looking good, hot-stuff. Suits you so much I'm almost envy it." He falls in love with you again evertime you expose a tattoo (he will trail the drawing with his index as he whispers how much he loves it in yoour skin by your ear) or wear tight and black clothes.

Don't mind him matching your style every once in a while, when he gets the mood to fix himself. But now that you gave him the idea he is forever using a choker, best thing ever. Also, he loves the black lipstick, he is enamored with kissing you with both having some and creating a mess, also he likes it since is extremely visible in his unlike bitemarks (they heal), so he is all for you kissing anywhere you like with it.

Urogi:

Urogi adores it, he thinks it's unique. Really, he gets all over you and asks you things like "What is that?" "How did you get it?" "Is it uncomfortable?" He also comments how it looks good in you. This includes the tattos, he loves then, even licks them at times lnly to see if it rubs off and is always amazed when it doesn't, even if he ever licked that same spot a million times.

After a while you realize he started to steal your stuff, specially the jewelry. He doesn't even wears them, he just likes them a lot so he keeps them. You can't get him to wear anything at all, he will run away at the sight of you wanting to dress him up (like a dog realizing it's bath-day, maybe he does think you will force him into a shower cuz he stinks a bit and you would not want to wear a shirt that he just used).

Aizetsu:

Aizetsu likes it, he thinks you look nice in it, you look like yourself. Dark clothes fit anyone, he thinks, and damn him if he isn't attracted to the themes, specially the memento mori. The thing he loves the most are the tattoos, the fact that they are part of you. He asks about their meaning, of why did you choose certain design, of the experience, he uses them as a way to know you.

Now, he wouldn't actually wear that. While he also likes dark clothes, he uses only things that are comfortable for his skin and to do the katas with his spear. But... a little bullying and he will be willing to match with you for a while. Oh, and he looks adorable after a messy kiss with the lipstick. He loves it and hates it at the same time, since it's awful but he likes that you can leave a mark that won't heal so he doesm't want to clean it off.

Nakime:

Nakime is in love with your style, she doesn't understand it as much as she feels she should, since he also wears black. She likes the themes, adores the tattoos (even if she would die before letting a needle basically embroider ink into her skin), dies for the make up and jewelry, also the fact she literally fell in love with you when she saw you like that... she still hasn't managed to integrate herself fully into it. She adores it, yearns it, but it's not hers.

Still, Nakime does like when you lend her something, and she would use them from time to time as long as you guide her through the style. And she likes a lot to kiss if you are both wearing lipstick, even if she doesn't like to deal with the mess it leaves in the skin.

Akaza:

Akaza doesn't share the taste, but he is very supportive. He likes to see you dress up the way it makes you comfortable and happy, and he is not above gifting you a gothic piece of jewelry or cloth if that will make you happy. His biggest issue are the tattoos, for some reason they make him feel on edge (you are used to him being paranoid of you being hurt, but fearing it out of a tattoo?)

He would not wear none of those, never. Akaza loves you, but he is not comfortable with the idea of so much black in him. It's actually funny because he wears white and pink, so you give the Jade (you) and Kat (him) vibe from Victorious at first glance. Also, he is not going to stop you from kissing hin if you wear lipstick, but he is cleaning his mouth the second your lips leave his.

Douma:

Douma literally doesn't care. You could both dress in the most expensive suit or a trash bag and the same reaction. "You look lovely in that!" But he says it mostly because it's the correct thing to say, since he doesn't have feelings on the matter. The only think he is curious about are the tattoos, but once he made some questions like "Did it hurt?" "Why this drawing?" "What if one day you don't like it anymore?" He starts losing interest.

He also doesn't care lf you put anything on him, you could give him a tattoo if you ever wanted. He doesn't care if the kisses might get messy with the lipstick or even if you want to put make up in him, at best he will think having his face "painted" is funny and at worst he will clean it off. Douma just doesn't care.

Kokushibou:

Kokushibou hates it, if he wasn't a demon he would have died from a heart attack everytime he saw you using a choker with black lipstick, visible tattoos, clothes too tight in your skin and/or too revealing (he thinks too revealing is showing your shoulders, thighs, any tiny bit of chest, waist, back and so) and way too many accesories for his liking. And don't get him starting with the memento mori themes (he's terrified by it).

This is a japanese traditional man, and what your style is almost the exact opposite of it. Still, he barely comments on it, he's a very quiet man, and he's so horrified he doesn't know how to approach because... you really like to be like that??? Mr. Villain's Day Off / Kyuujitsu no Warumono San Episode 1

Overall Rating So Far: 9/10 (i WILL buy merch for this)

MR. VILLAIN IS TOO MUCH CROW BAIT.

I have a thing for curly bowl cuts. I like goth-coded characters, and this demon does a decent job. I love Yakuza/Gangster/Evil coded villains that have gap-moe (a side to them that seems completely counter to the personality they present). Most of all I LOVE SHINTAROU ASANUMA'S VOICE.

He's probably most famous for being Samatoki, the gangster rapper and leader of the Mad Trigger Crew, from Hypnosis Mic, and I've seen him perform at multiple live viewings and his character has a rabid following. His other famous roles are Saiki Kusuo, Ugetsu from Given, and he's in Ensemble Stars, A!3, and Tokenranbu (can you tell this dude can sing).

He has a lovely deep voice and is an absolute sweetheart, despite being able to growl like a rabid dog. It's the perfect match for the character.

The show itself looks like it will be a cute and fluffy show that is low-risk and chill. Most importantly, it's teaching us the importance of Work-Life balance!

It seems to be based on Sentei/Ranger style shows, but set as if the show is the real world, and the characters are NOT actors. Who knows WHY Mr. Villain and his fellow demons are here to destroy humans, but the Ranger's are here to protect us!

Holy shit, Mr. Villain is /adorable/ in both work mode and relax mode.

This almost feels like it's trying to be sexy in the same way the Uramichi Oniisan was, just for the hell of it in a show with almost zero fan service apart from Soft Boys.

The show is basically three little shorts strung together, but gives us a great glimpse of the world.

We get to meet Red Ranger who.... I killed myself laughing over this, but is just as directionally challenged as my Capybara is. We go anywhere together and he starts walking in a direction, and its a 90% chance that it's the exact opposite direction he wants to go in.

Mr. Villain leads him to the train station he was ACTUALLY trying to get to, and as Red Ranger skipped happily through the ticket gate, Capybara said "See, now I'd just get lost and not know what platform to go to."

....only for Red Ranger to have this immediate problem, lmfao. I'm so excidted for more non-existant-sense-of-direction shinanigens, if only to tease the Capybara.

So, Quick Japanese Cultural Lesson -> This is called a Showa Yankee lmao. It's a street gangster / troublemaker with a soft spot for animals. This comes from a brand with cute dogs on it that was popular among the rough and tumble street gangs oh the 1980s and earlier. But you will see this trope across various anime and manga, and I LOVE IT. Gap-Moe at it's finest.

Along with the animal loving, Mr. Villain can't eat spicy curry (Is he British? lololol) and despite getting ready to murder any human at hand because they're sold out of Mild Curry Roux, the panda special immediately calms him down and settles in to watch.

I may not care that much for pandas (Would saying that get my killed by Mr. Villain? Probably, but I'm one of the few people who don't go "awww" when they see a panda, and instead can only remember the baby panda sneeze video lmao) but I hope to keep enjoying all this fluff, especially as I try to push through the last few episodes of Jujutsu Kaisen from last season.

Mr. Villain has his priorities straight, and I'd be happy to hand over the world to his control as long as I don't die :D

Ah, I seem to have given myself away. I am… very unused to such genuine flattery. As long as you truly mean the words you say, perhaps you’ll even be able to see me blush.

I may be seem to be an “ice queen” at times, especially if I'm in charge during an emergent situation, but I do not mean to give the impression that I am unable to be vulnerable. A better way to explain it would be that I do have patience with people, but I don't suffer fools gladly.

For example, a favored quote of mine is, “Do you know the difference between an error and a mistake?Anyone can make an error, but that error doesn't become a mistake until you refuse to correct it.”

It’s good to know that you’ve experimented on your own. It will allow you to better communicate your comfort levels. I agree, it will work well with our somatosensory experiments. We can slowly work up to predicament bondage as I believe it can become overwhelming if too much is done from the start. I’d like to suggest the Japanese bondage style of Kinbaku. It would be an exciting way to try different styles and appreciate your body art.

Sanrio Carnival

Second game I got from Novegro is a freaking Hello Kitty title. Never in my life I would have expected to come back home with Hello Kitty among my convention loot, but it was there for cheap and I figured it was better collecting these kind of games this way instead of also suffering shipping costs for them.

The minimal-styled white cat needs no introduction: designed by Yuko Shimizu for the Sanrio corporation in 1974, Hello Kitty has been an icon for worldwide kawaii culture since then and a fan favourite among children and adults alike, becoming a fixed appeareance in pop culture. Her most remarkable feature is getting her face plastered on anything mankind has ever produced; if an item exists, there's an Hello Kitty branded version of it. No need for me to delve further into the topic, since there's also a plethora of Hello Kitty Game Boy games and eventually, as I collect more titles, I'll come back talking about her sometime in the future. In reality, I hold no grudge against Sanrio characters in general. Really, they're adorable and I am known for liking cute stuff: Badtz-Maru is definitely my favourite in the bunch and I owned- correction, I still own Ahiru No Pekkle branded stationery (which, by the way, has major kidcore vibes. It's amazing). The big flaw here is that I think all minor, secondary or supporting characters Sanrio creates for the Hello Kitty brand look far more interesting than the protagonist who needs to be bland and empty to fullfill the role of "pop culture icon". While others have distinct personalities and attitudes, Kitty needs to be just a face, a signature, a stamp to be placed on items, nothing more. I know there's several anime series trying to give her a family or a story and a setting, but at that point it's just uncanny. It's sorta like watching a cartoon of the Dolce&Gabbana logo coming to life.

Setting my rant aside, the subject of this post is Sanrio Carnival, a classic GB game distribuited by Character Soft in 1991. It appears to be, along with its NES counterpart of 1990, the first title featuring the kitten at least on Nintendo consoles. Unfortunately, searching up info about older Sanrio games is a confusing task as most dedicated sites do not even bother to list them prior to the DS and GameCube era. The game itself, however, is not confusing at all: right after the title screen from where we can choose to play single or multiplayer via Link Cable we're sent to an option screen and then to the actual game- which is a Puyo Puyo clone. Nothing more, nothing less. Icons depicting Sanrio charas fall from the top of the screen in couples and the player can rotate and move them with controls; once three of the same are paired, they disappear.

While it's hard to write anything more about the game itself, I can say that ironically this is the best I got from the Novegro batch o.o I randomly picked all four titles only assuring myself I was getting actual japanese exclusives with no western distribution; I ended up with a text-heavy RPG and two RTS, while Sanrio Carnival is just a simple puzzle game. Granted, it has nothing on Dr.Mario or Tetris, but it's immediate to pick up and it fills the purpose of killing your time if you're a kid in a road trip or waiting in some office. It does its job. Sanrio Carnival is just a simple puzzler, yet it's everything you'd expect about an early title featuring fashion icons.

I feel like I mention this a lot when I write about Eun-jeong but he's very insecure about a lot of things all the time. It’s not about his appearance though (excluding his burn scars) but more about what kind of person he is. 

Sometimes, his biggest fear is that he looks the same outside as he does inside. 

He’s a very lucid yandere where he understands that this obsession inside of him is dark and all consuming, that it’s very disturbing. He knows his urge to hide you away from the world is both good (because it’s to protect you) but also bad (because he doesn’t care about how much it’ll warp you in the end). 

That being said, the worst part of it all is the fact that he knows he’s being selfish. That the way he covets you despite understanding that being around him also ruins you. 

So, the fact that you can look at him and find something worthwhile, something gorgeous and artistic? It brings him to his knees.

If you draw him or paint him or sketch him and show him, he won’t know what to say. He’ll be flustered, of course, but the words to describe the feelings your drawing evokes don’t exist.

It would probably be some picture of him sitting by a window sill or hunkered over his desk doing paperwork; it’s something mundane and ordinary. Maybe you even drew him looking at you in that way he always does.

To him, he’s some ugly piece of shit. In your drawing, he looks so so beautiful. In his drawing, he looks ethereal as the light from the window shines on him. In your painting, he looks handsome in the dim fluorescent lights. In your sketch, he looks at you with adoration, his eyes soft and kind and gentle.

You show him a side of himself he’d never seen in any mirror and it both breaks and puts his heart together. You’re an angel bringing him salvation.

Ryuu is an artist himself so he understands the struggle of finding inspiration!

He’s never been consistent about creating. He’s always gone through phases where he doesn’t draw at all before suddenly having the urge to draw everything all at once, only to then finish nothing because he can’t find it in himself to pick up a stylus.

He draws anime style. Very manga-esque, very early Japanese animation kind of deal. His art style is very much inspired by original Sailor Moon, Inuyasha, Yuyu Hakusho, Tokyo Mew mew, etc. Growing up with all of that stuff made him wish he could create an anime or a manga that instilled in others the feelings those series instilled in him.

They made him feel not alone. They made him feel like he could conquer the world, that he could grow up and do whatever the hell he wanted to do because Sailor Moon could do it, because Ichigo could do it, because Urameshi didn’t give a shit about anyone else’s opinions and he could do it; so why couldn’t Ryuu?

Of course, that opinion very much got crushed as he grew up and realised that the world wasn’t as full of potential as he thought it was.

Which is why he finds it so baffling that you find inspiration in him, that out of all the people and things in the world, he specifically fills you with passion to do art. He was a nobody who trafficked drugs and ice cream, what about him was so wonderful.

Still, he’d encourage you. He wouldn’t be able to understand, of course, but that doesn’t stop him from finding beauty in your art. Sometimes, he’d look at the way you draw him, without the things he uses to cover up, just him in his most natural state, and wonder how you could make a monster like him look like a masterpiece.

He knows himself that artists always instil a lot of love into their artwork at the thought of you loving him so much that you exert effort and patience and time to draw him or paint him or sculpt him makes him fall even more in love with you.

Unlike the other two, Gavin isn’t surprised. He subscribes to the belief that there’s a higher power out there. Maybe not God (cus the Christians have ruined that for him completely) but there had to be some sort of fate, something that meant there was more to the world than just pure randomness.

After all, something had to bring you to him or him to you, right? You’re so perfect for him, so wonderful, his twin flame, his soulmate, the other half to his heart; there’s no way that was mere coincidence, right? 

So, of course he’s not surprised. You’re his muse after all. Something about you sitting pretty, doing ordinary mundane things, maybe even just breathing, brought passion to his chest and energy to his fingertips.

If he felt that way about you, if you could inspire so much love and adoration and creativity in him, why wouldn’t he do the same to you? In fact, if Gavin is with an artist, he pretty much expects it. After all, if you love him like you said you do, he’d definitely have to illicit the same emotions in you as you do in him.

The fact that he expects it doesn’t make it any less awe inspiring though. He’d look at every single piece of art you make as if God himself placed it with his giant glowing hand into Gavin’s hands. 

(Which, honestly, is accurate because, if Gavin didn’t know any better, he’d claim you were some higher being blessing him yourself)

Also, he’d totally collect every scrap he can get his grubby hands on. Like, yes, all of the yanderes would do the same but Gavin does it to an insane degree. He’d collect all of them and *gasp* display it at the tattoo shop for all to see. 

If you go in there when he’s tattooing a client, you’ll hear him babbling nonsense about your art. Something like:

Did you see that sketch of me? Yeah, it’s on a Chipotle napkin but it’s a fucking work of art, I swear. Yeah, my boyfriend did it. Yeah, he does that a lot. Why did I frame it? What do you mean why, it’s literally a masterpiece.It’s very embarrassing but it’s him and you loved him enough to memorise how to draw his hair, his freckles, the specific way his nose swoops, the way his eyes narrow, the way his lips quirk. How could he not be obsessed with the way you give your love physical form?

Here’s a short description of you don’t want to read everything!

History: Yuri is a blue eyed, pale skinned girl who’s in her highschool years. She has freckles from her chest, shoulders.. up to her cheeks and face. She gets them from Akito, her father who’s Australian. He married Ayame, who’s Japanese. Ayame has white fluffy hair while Akito’s is very curly and light brown. They had their first child in JP named Yuki, a girl who looks mostly like her father with her brown bob cut short hair. A year passed and Yuri was born. Yuri looked a lot like her mother, her white hair, blue eyes.. they’re both albino.

About: Yuri’s a very kind and selfless person, she’s adored by many for how sweet and gentle she is. She has a very soft and quiet voice, she almost sounds like she’s talking to a baby. She always carries around a small backpack, holding things like a small blanket or some water.. just in case she runs into trouble.

Likes: Yuri loves being with her friends.. or in anyone’s company. She never fails to put a smile on their faces, and in return they adore her presence. She’s okay with being alone too, she doesn’t mind getting some peace and quiet once in a while, it’s refreshing.

Dislikes: Growing up people used to bully her because of her looks and personality, they found her tooo sweet. It was weird, some found it creepy and obnoxious. So she hates it when people teases her like that, although she’s too kind to say it, she’d most likely be repeating it in her head.

Fav. Food: She likes anything sweet! Whether it’s candies or chocolates.. or doughnuts! But her favorite is cake. She could gulp down a sponge cake or a chocolate cake.. but not when it’s tooo sweet, that’s too much.

Dislike food: She doesn’t like things that are supposed to be warm, turned cold. For example, overnight oats.. warm oatmeal sounds amazing but when it’s frozen.. eugh. Or those cold soba noodles.. gross. Anything cold like that she hates.

Fav weather: Yuri’s favorite weather is when it snows. The beautiful white snowflake falling from the sky, watching it pile up.. it looks magical to her. Though she also likes when it rains, sitting down in a dim room with a good book, cuddled up in blankets… so peaceful.

Fave holiday: Along with the cold weather, her favorite holiday is Christmas! Giving gifts is something she loves to do. But not just that, the joy of Christmas. Being able to wake up with your family and exchange gifts. Sitting in the window and watching the snow. Hearing the giggles and laughter of children playing.. she loves it all.

Hobbies: If not hanging with her friends, you can find her at the beach.. or any park or local library. She loves reading.. her favorite is fantasy and romance novels. You can find her sitting in the park up on a tree just resding to herself, or laying on a picnic mat just relaxing.

Birthday: Her birthday is December 19th! She usually gets her gifts before or during Christmas morning.

Okay so I spent at least 30 minutes rambling about my favorite song of all time on Reddit this morning. I’m sharing this with you guys because why not.

My favorite song is Patchwork Staccato by Toa feat. Hatsune Miku. It’s been my favorite since early 2022.

Miku’s tuning sounds so innocent and sad, the way the instrumental builds gives me chills, and I love the repetition in the lyrics, which is normally a pet peeve of mine but here it works cause it actually adds weight to the meaning.

I like the art in the official upload. Miku looks so pretty in a white dress and it looks like a colored pencil style.

Also I know it has little to do with the official song but I adore the choreography in the project diva music video and the one in the concert. I can lowkey see someone teaching a similar choreography in a dance class like ballet or lyrical

But back to the song, the middle part in the bridge with the high doo doo doos would sound absolutely horrible if the tuning couldn’t pull it off. But Toa DID pull it off and it sounds soft but not screechy which is difficult to do.

Speaking of the tuning Miku’s breathes and her little “ahem” are so adorable and fit in so well

Also with the lyrics, as someone who is learning Japanese but doesn’t understand most of this song, they sound so pleasing to listen to. It’s a similar feeling to hearing clever word choice or rhyme in an English song. Part of it has to do with the actual good repetition as mentioned earlier, but also I just like the way the words are pronounced, it sounds nice.

But also with the lyrics and their meaning, while I can’t relate to the song exactly (the only unrequited love I’ve ever felt that actually hurt was for fictional characters lol) I can still sympathize with the singer. Unable to get rid of your feelings for someone who never loved you back, and when you finally do questioning if you can ever be happy again is so melancholy and heartbreaking I love it. It’s even more depressing when you consider that this song is from the perspective of a young girl (going off of the art and the fact Miku is used, unless Toa used this song to vent, which is even more sad), probably in love for the first time. It’s the type of realistic lyrics and meaning I like in great Vocaloid tracks and why I love them so much.

Also I know I already brought up the song’s buildup but it’s one of the best parts. The way it starts quite with a solo Miku, then they add a piano and a few robotic toy sounds, and then by the end you have tons of vocal harmonies and violins and it sounds so full and sweeping AAAAA I LOVE IT.

I think I’ll stop here before I keep writing until the end of time. I know this isn’t structured well but I just had to share this.

Also Toa used random sounds in his songs before Haraguchi Sasuke made it cool (no offense to him, just a common similarity I found in both works).

10 BEST Low Heat BLs - Soft & Sweet (Safe to Watch with Parents)

Not sure I am the right one to answer since I'm the opposite of a prude but I'll give it my best shot. Please keep in mind that these are romances, so there will be at least a kiss (in most of them), I'm thinking Disney level, so they might also be okay for kids, but as I always say with kids, you know your kid best, you have to judge what they are okay to watch. 

1. Cherry Magic 

AKA 30 Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard AKA 30-sai made Dotei Da to Mahotsukai ni Nareru rashii AKA Cheri Maho

Japan 2020 - CrunchyRoll or Fan Subbed 

The sweetest fluffiest magical realism BL, packaged as a pinning office romance, very low heat (practically chaste) but the cutest. It’s truly great. It’s not in my top 10 of all time list simply because the heat level is too low for me, personally. 

No kisses for the leads, side couple kiss is v dead fish. 

2. Light On Me 

Korea 2021 - Viki 

Korea does an elegant pastiche of traditional live action yaoi but all tropes are cleverly deployed to bolster one of the most riveting love triangles ever put on screen… and I don’t like love triangles. LonM strategically tailors classic BL tropes to 2 different semes resulting in pristine pacing, plot, and character development, explicitly serving narrative a-not just to tick boxes. LoM is a master class in this technique. (If you write fanfic or romance you should study this show.) Full review. 

Very low heat, Korea in peak chaste form (pre their 2022 “oh, boys can kiss” epiphany). But there is dildo humor. 

3. My Love Mix Up 

AKA Vanishing My First Love AKA Kieta Hatsukoi 

Japan 2021 - Viki 

Completely adorable absolute chaos bi disaster muffin falls accidentally and completely in love with his classmate, hijinx and friendship result. What’s great about this BL is that it deals with things like homophobia, asexuality, and one sided affection in an extremely gentle and palatable way. Perhaps sometimes too subtle, but I believe this is a great show for younger audiences, particularly if you want to spark conversations about identity, sexuality, authority, truthfulness, and consent. Oh and it’s funny. 

No kissing at all. 

4. Seven Days: Monday-Thursday & Friday-Sunday

Japan 2015 - grey

Never doubt my ability to recommend this show. One of the best live action yaois ever made, with perfectly structured angst, fantastic characters and acting, and no problematic tropes (rare in Japanese BL). 

The leads have excellent chemistry although it’s low heat there’s still some really cute mutual kisses. 

5. Wish You: Your Melody in My Heart (movie)

Korea 2020 - Viki

Set in the music industry featuring a talented singer and the pianist who falls in love with him (and his music), subtle and achingly adorable. High production, low heat, short run, very tame, and Korea, so more of a western style. It’s not the most logical story though. No coming out, exists in the “Korean BL bubble universe” where everything is just fine and dandy with the gays.

Kisses but they tame and no sexy.

6. He’s Coming To Me 

Thailand 2019 - YouTube

Boy and ghost boy fall in love, must solve ghost’s murder. Peak pining but also pretty tame, features my favorite sweet but important coming out sequence. The third in my precious triumvirate of unbeatable Thai BLs, that are only nominally BL because the story, acting, and production values are so good. (Together with UWMA & 1k*).

One (maybe two) soft romantic kisses. Nothing else possible. 

7. Restart After Come Back Home 

AKA Risutato wa tadaima no ato de 

Japan 2020 - grey

Atmospheric study in rural Japan meets complex family dynamics built on a romance framework of city boy meets country boy, grumpy/sunshine. It’s beautiful and icy sweet. Slow moving in places but ultimately worth the patience. Full review. 

Low heat, low angst, very pretty. 

8. My Ride 

Thailand 2022 - GaGa

Thai BL grew up with this pulp - a truly lovely and special little show featuring the extremely rare pairing of sunshine/sunshine AKA a cinnamon roll couple. Mature explorations of relationships using one of the softest, sweetest and most innocent friends to lovers vehicles. Kindly, overworked doctor meets broken-hearted motorcycle taxi driver in an “other side of the tracks” slow burn romance. The support cast is excellent, making for great friendship groups and family dynamics. With honest queer rep that adds to, but doesn’t impede the story, and genuine conversation about the nature of class, wealth, and classism, not to mention communication, honesty, and respect for boundaries, you can’t go wrong with this show. In other news, I am a sucker for a single dimple. Full review.

9. Mr. Unlucky Can Only Kiss

AKA Mr. Unlucky Has No Choice but to Kiss! AKA Fukou-kun wa Kiss Suru Shikanai!

Mr Chronically Unlucky (another adorable chaos muffin) and Mr Always Lucky end up dating after they meet at uni orientation. It’s JAPAN yet they kissed in the first episode. What freaky alt-reality did I enter into? That’s all they kiss tho, over which I was a touch disappointed. Still I spent far too much of my time with this show biting my knuckles and squealing “THEY’RE SO CUTE!” It is very slapstick Japanese style comedic (light) BL reminds me of Cherry Magic. So if you like that style of BL you’ll adore this show. 

Amusing story: I paused mid the most tooth-achingly adorable first date in the entire universe and Viki was like “something missing?” and I was like “MY HEART YOU BASTARDS” 

One kiss beginning and some shirtless lust. 

10. What Did You Eat Yesterday

Thank you so much for that art style vs. story vibes post. I feel so validated. I don't have the talent to do such detailed edgy art and for some awful reason I can only color in vibrant colors, while my characters are simple and 'cute'. The project I've been conceptualizing for years is literally some really messed up stuff happening to good characters. And it's equally jarring because I myself do not look like the type of person to draw cute things.

And on a different note: You have been so kind and an inspiration. Your transparency about your work flow and story approach gives me hope that I too can one day bring my stories to life. I get so overwhelmed at the prospect of planning. I just love your stories and you have such a calming vibe. Thank you for all that you do and create.

Trust me; I don't really look like a person who would do a story like Death-Head's Deal with such heavy themes. Everyone always misjudges me to be really innocent and cute and someone who needs to be protected from horrors of life while in reality the Hell eats from my hand.

You don't have to MATCH your stuff. You don't. Hayao Miyazaki and Junji Ito are great examples of this. Miyazaki makes wonderful, serene worlds with lots of good and hope, and he's one of the most pessimistic, sarcastic creators I know, and really rude and outspoken in Japanese standards. He's well-known in Japan for being very difficult to work with (because he doesn't respect the Japanese polite culture but says whatever he wants to whatever he wants).

While Junji Ito makes absolutely messed up shit and he's a funny sweetheart. Very modest and soft, the opposite of his art and stories.

Planning? Who needs planning if it overwhelms you and feels bad? Just improvise and start drawing and see where it takes you :D That's an option, too. As you're not making the project for a client with a deadline, you can take your sweet time with the project.

The trick with all creativity is to find the methods and stuff that fits you. Not try to force yourself to fit in to do, be and exist the same way as someone else does or how the general consensus expects you to be.

Like people looking edgy can't draw cute things and adorable people must do and consume just uwu-stuff.

Hmmmm... 🤔 A good question!

When I first started out writing, my two inspirations were twstpasta (Mac) and panacea-wishes (Lily). Mac had a very clean and simple interface and a whimsical way of writing, whereas Lily edited together her own banners and focused more on pretty descriptions... I wanted my writing blog to have its own unique flavor like Mac's and Lily's did!

You'll notice that I wrote the last paragraph in past tense, and that's because both of those writers have since terminated their respective blogs and moved elsewhere💦 but to this day, I still really love them and the work that they do! If you’re interested in continuing to follow them too, you can find Mac at @mcdonaldsnumberone and Lily at @fairlyabookie. However, please note that they no longer take writing requests; they only write what and when they wish to.

Another predominantly text-based blog I enjoyed (and still enjoy!) reading is @pianostarinwonderland. It's mainly a dumping ground for TWST thoughts and theories, which I do also sometimes share on my own blog. It's a place I go to when I need to get my brain juices flowing, and sometimes the things they point out make me develop more of an appreciation for the details of TWST! (I also used to be an Azul stan, so I'd run to a fellow Azul stan to feel validated in my screaming, ahah~)

Back around the start of my TWST journey, I mainly relied on @kibadreams and jmee for story translations and rough summaries, respectively. Kibadreams does their best to retain the original “voice” of every character when they translate, and they’re very open about the potential translating mistakes they may have made and they’re striving to improve! Jmee really goes in on the details and the deeper meaning behind character relationships and TWST lore. I really appreciate the work that they have done for the community!

Special shoutout to @mysteryshoptls, whom I first got to know as a friend before they initially set up their translation blog. They’re a great source for vignettes and character lines; their translations really retain the spirit of the original characters in Japanese.

There are also a lot of artists in the TWST fandom that I admire! Seeing their posts always puts a smile on my face, and it inspires me to work hard at my own things too. I especially like seeing their own OCs and takes on certain scenes and characters from the game. It gives me confidence to share my own original works~

@4nimenut (They use very delicate brushstrokes that remind me of watercolors or traditional Chinese paintings! The lighting in their pieces is also very atmospheric~)

@airin-queenz (A very bright and cheery art style! The colors and the shading really pop out.)

@beth-lau (I love how they draw expressions! The arrangement and details... they really bring out the emotions that every character is feeling.)

@k0ushii (Their sketchy art style and color choice is very soft and easy on the eyes! They've also done gijinkas for Cookie Run and FNAF characters, which I absolutely adore the designs for!)

@lolitsleia (I love how dumb their OC Alex and Ace are together! lolitsleia really does a bit of everything, from nice fully rendered pieces to funny little sketches and comics of the characters interacting with each other!)

@myuunji (Their Yuu is really adorable and clumsy! It's lots of fun keeping up their shenanigans in the little doodles and comics they make.)

@pearlwhitecats (Their love for Silver is really pure! I can feel it come off in every Nahime x Silver work they make. I'm also a fan of their cutiepie OC Neviah~)

@renniecirque (Ren has a really unique art style! It almost looks like traditional art instead of digital because of how soft the colors and the line art is. It gives me cottagecore vibes! Very soothing to look at~)

@shimmeryspark (Kana's art is both cute and detailed! While their fully rendered pieces are a treat, I also really like their chibis--they look so round and squishy, I just want to pinch them with my fingers! Their shrimp-based OCs and Kana (the Yuusona) with Floyd and Ruggie are also adorable and pure~)

@stupidneko (I like how big and expressive their eyes are! I also really love the little details they add to accentuate various pieces, like tiny sparkles or little tuffs of cotton.)

@suiiseis (We share a mutual appreciation and intense brain rot for J word I like how dainty their style is, from the lithe forms of their characters to the way they draw eyes and hair!)

@teuffels (Their vibrant, bouncy colors really bring pieces to life! They also get really experimental with poses and compositions, which always keeps you guessing. Plus, their love for Lilia and Xiao is just so wholesome and endearing!)

@tinyfantasminha (I adore their OC Vic's sass and their breakdowns over Jack Howl! They're very talented with drawing poses and coloring in a way that mimics the TWST style!)

@yttrocen (An artist with a very soft and pastel color palette, mainly doing comics and doodles. If I'm not mistaken, they mainly do Tweels, which I can appreciate~)

@zariyen (Yuu Yumehara my beloved he's so cool and hot and-- I'm a huge fan of zari's work on alternate outfits for Pomefiore! Everything they do is really gorgeously detailed; I could stare at their pieces forever and ever!)

It feels like a really big honor when someone you look up to follows you back! It's like one of those "wow, senpai noticed me" moments you see sometimes in anime or manga. Of course, I'm not super close to everyone that I listed in this post, and I’ve also met a lot of amazing people and made friends that I didn’t include here (since they didn’t quite fit the parameters of the ask)!!
