I'm going to release a Halloween special of Rewritten Sparks for an MHA zine!
To set the mood, I thought I'd share some spooky facts that I added to Rewritten Sparks plot.
So I'm not going to deny it. Some of the plot is inspired by both MLB and Madoka Magica, specifically All for One being able to corrupt civilians a la Hawk Moth. But there some cultural influence that I implanted.
The yokai of Japanese legend are actually AfO's first attempt at creating nomu, but his victims had a lot more free will than normal nomu, so they were essentially to him.
Those nomu were never able to move on, causing their souls to fester and linger in certain areas of the world. In Japan's case, they become yokai. The longer they stay planted in an area, the more infected it becomes, turning into a labyrinth like plane.
Hi @anartisicandautisticstararcher 👋
I am so sorry for answering this so late but a Halloween special does sound so interesting!
Love to see the inspiration from miraculous and madoka magic!!! Nice touch, tbh (yes, I am saying this because I have watched and low-key enjoyed both series even if there are problems with MLB's writing)
There's something so ironic about having AFO basically act like gabriel agreste. Maybe it's because they're so similar in terms of both of them not letting go of their loved ones, aka emille and yoichi.
The creation of an "akuma" could just be a quirk, or it could be one of Dr Garaki's experiments where he merged two quirks together to create a similar effect. This can probably be done with him merging a mind control quirk and another quirk to produce this hypnosis effect.
These nomu's become stuck in their own emotions, unable to move on. Due to the extremity of their emotions AFO would have a hard time controlling them and getting them to do what he wants them to do so he would probably abandon them which may just make the nomu's more powerful depending on their feelings towards AFO. I say this because during AFO's rise, people truly believed in him and viewed him almost as a ruler that dictated their entire beings, meaning that some may have truly been loyal to their master but were betrayed.
I think delving deep and using Japanese folklore for some of the yokai you show would also be interesting or having some of the yokai be inspired by Japanese folklore.
While neither the mha main manga or vigilantes delve deeply into the idea of ghosts or yokai, we do know and see that there are supernatural beings. The vestiges of people's quirks can be recognised as such, and in the vigilantes manga, it is stated that Aizawa's homeroom teacher has a quirk that allows him to see spirits and that he acts as an exorcist so there's definitely huge potential to explore this a lot more.
The fact that the manga states that their homeroom teacher is like an exorcist has me thinking that something like a labyrinth caused by a yokai definitely happened.
Little observation, but your idea for the Halloween special vaugley reminds me of yokai watch
#mha#bnha#thanks for the ask#thanks for the ask!#my hero acedamia#mha rewrite#bnha rewrite#halloween special sounds nice!

This was originally my piece for the Freak Show zine, which I was supposed to be a guest writer for. However, there were personal reasons for me dropping, as well as some discomfort for the way certain topics were being treated in the server. I haven't posted anything MHA related for a while, but I'm slowly coming back around to it. So, I might as well share this. cw: ableism, trauma episode, heat stroke, vomiting Geten is not a Himura in this; I've always written him as an Inuk from Alaska, & it's going to stay that way.
Geten had his suspicions for a while now.
His co-captain would often miss meetings, which was usually chalked up to his careless nature. The Ice User could agree with such, if not for the other odd behaviors: Delayed responses to one-on-one conversations, which Geten originally mused as nothing more than Dabi’s idiocy showing itself. Sometimes, Dabi would just respond to things that weren’t even said, as if the words had muddied up in his mind. Was it just an act when he was withdrawn from group conversations, or something more? To remove himself from group settings when his fellow dogs from the League were quick to indulge themselves?
He was in the company of allies, but always alert. Dabi would study whatever room he found himself in, reading the space like prey awaiting a stalking predator.
Yes, there was the possible explanation that Dabi just didn’t trust anyone. That was glaringly obvious with the way he carried himself, detached from the rest of them. Even his own pack of mongrels would make attempts to include him, but often to no avail (from Geten’s observations). In his opinion though, there was a clear distinction between his obvious distrust and his hypervigilance -- which lead Geten to his hypothesis:
“Dabi’s deaf.”
Re-Destro paused in his own long-winded ramblings, most of which had gone unnoticed by the Ice Man. Ignoring his Grand Commander’s words in favor of musing over a mutt like Dabi? That was even more shameful than he cared to admit. If pressed on why he bothered to waste the time, there was a perfectly good excuse: Liability. A co-captain who struggled to hear? Was that really who they wanted in a position of power?
The Grand Commander stared expectantly, prompting Geten to continue once he realized. “Not fully… Obviously,” he mumbled. “But partially, I’m sure.”
Re-Destro hummed in thought. He knew better than to question his most loyal’s keen eye. Unlike most of the Liberation Army, Geten was not born and raised in an urban environment. Hell, Geten wasn’t even from Japan. He had grown up on the untamed Alaskan coast, keeping alive a culture that had been pushed to the brink of extinction. His use of foreign practices and (what Re-Destro assumed was) a dead language made the Ice User invaluable. He saw things that often went missed by others. And then there was his combat abilities…
“Leave him alone.”
The immediate shutdown was ill-received. Geten balked at his Grand Commander (because he didn’t care about the loss to the mutts, Re-Destro was his leader till the day he died). “Why?” it was unlike him to question any decision Rikiya made, but recently…
“Because it doesn’t matter.” Rikiya waved off the faux concern with a scoff. “Shigaraki knows what he has.” It was impossible for him to not realize, right? “It’s none of your concern.”
That was not the answer he wanted to hear, but Geten chose to bite his tongue for the rest of the meeting. He could go vent out his frustrations after.
-----
Fire was his strength. There wasn’t much in this world that could stand against the destructive, incredible power of fire. Razing down entire rotting ecosystems, just to breathe life back and make way for something better. It was supposed to be a gift, in this world, until it was wielded by the wrong hand. In regards to the gift his dear father bestowed upon him, Touya was in no shortage of drawbacks. The snide remarks of his patchwork skin meant nothing to him now, having made peace with that necessary sacrifice so long ago. He felt accomplished when he pushed himself beyond his own limits, triumphantly rejoicing in his mind to a man that would not hear him, over a younger sibling that was not around.
His Conquests, as he so happily claimed: Overcoming a previous version of himself that was cast aside. The rest of the world had ripped away any validation to his own existence, but Touya carved out his own.
He just had to entertain the whims of Shigaraki and the League, until the time was right. Most of his days were boring recently, leaving him time to plan (when he wasn’t keeping an eye on Hawks). He ran through his scheme multiple times a day, envisioning the execution right down to every fine detail. Touya nestled back into his pillows, languishing in a soft mattress while he ignored whatever bullshit assigned duties were given for the day. He couldn’t care less about the PLF, or the cult-like followers within it.
And then there was his co-captain.
There was a pounding at the door, pulling a grimace back on Touya’s face as he sat upright and stared. He didn’t bother getting up to open the door, nor did he need to. The Ice User slammed it open for him. “Anigit!” Get out. And his tone was as icy cold as his Quirk.
Touya’s blue eyes rolled before he fell back on his bed again.
Geten was in no mood for it. “Are you stupid?” He snapped back, resting his hands on his hips. “Too dumb to execute simple tasks properly? That’s why you hide away in here all the time--”
“No,” Touya interrupted. “Just not dumb enough to play your goofy cult games--”
“You think you’re so much better than everyone else,” Geten ran right over his snide remarks with venom dripping from his words. “But you’re useless. And even worse, you’re useless with a bad attitude.”
Finally, Touya stood, stomping down on the ground. He sulked out of his room, his heart pounding as the Ice User’s words nestled in, reverberating through his mind. They bounced around, his words morphing and deepening, taking on the same tone as Endeavor.
Endeavor.
His blue eyes glared ahead as he stomped down the hallway, ignoring whatever barking Geten was doing behind him. Hands were shoved into his pockets as his shoulders slumped forward. He wasn’t sure when his Quirk began responding to his emotions (Touya was sure he had them in check!), but it was hard to miss the bright blue glow illuminating off him in the hallway. ‘No, not again.’ He had grown beyond this.
And yet, there he stood again-- brought to a pause by the sudden pain of heat dancing across his skin. The small space was filled with the crackle of flames springing to life, overwhelming him as abruptly as the rage he felt.
He needed to get control. He couldn’t get control.
“Dabi..!” Geten’s voice was nothing more than a muffled plea, drowned in the roar of blue fire. “Dabi, that’s enough!”
The heat was unbearable as he inched closer, causing sweat to bead down his sides. He was so used to the antagonistic relationship they shared, he didn’t think twice of it until now-- now, when Dabi’s fire was raging out of control. Now, when there was a legitimate threat to the Paranormal Liberation Front, to their cause, to Re-Destro himself! Geten frosted his hands over in a thin layer of ice and pulled the hood of his parka just a bit tighter. He dared take another step forward as frustration twisted his stomach in knots. “You damn crybaby!” He raised his voice, his throat protesting against the smoke he inhaled.
Touya dropped to his knees, his fingers threaded in black hair. Icy blue eyes were as wide as saucers, staring at nothing in particular. His thoughts were racing, taking him away from the training arena, away from Deika all together. He was back in his childhood home, pleading for validation all over again. He could clearly see his mother’s panicked gray eyes staring him down, could hear his father tearing Shoto away with declarations of his own importance and separation from the rest of his siblings.
Never good enough, just as Enji had proven time and time again-- Geten reaffirmed with his snarls. He caught Touya at the wrong time, and now he couldn’t bring his own flames to heel.
With a violent heave, Touya nearly face planted against the floor. He barely managed to catch himself as he lurched forward, unsteady hands supporting his trembling body. Saliva dripped from his lips, threatening to spill whatever contents were in his stomach. Too much heat. He couldn’t stop. He would surely burn up--
All at once, his fire was snuffed out. Ice water washed over him, dousing out the fire where he had failed to do so himself. A white boot came up and violently kicked his shaking form to the floor.
Geten slammed his heel down to pin his co-captain, and ripped the hood of his parka back. “You bastard!” He shouted, his throat scratchy and voice strained. “Taima!” That’s enough. “You could have burned the whole complex down! Didn’t you hear me!?”
Dabi was silent for the first few moments, staring out in utter confusion. Didn’t you hear me? The words barely registered in his mind, but he dared not look up at the one who started it all: “No…” His own voice was barely above a whisper when he spoke.
“Qanuikkavit!?” What’s wrong!? Geten seethed, his eyes wild as he stared down at his pathetic co-captain. “What the Hell happened!?”
Touya’s trembling form curled further in on itself, the nausea and pain from nearly roasting alive (again) rooted deep in his gut. Geten finally stepped away and knelt down beside the Flame User; was that guilt he felt? He let out a shaky breath, trying to calm his nerves so he could focus more on Dabi. “I’m sorry,” he apologized, his voice still scratchy from smoke inhalation.
For once, he would concede that he had gone too far.

You can also read our FAQ here!
Q: Who are the mods?
A: Check out our mods here!
Q: What’s a zine?
A: A zine is short for magazine or fanzine!
Q: What is this zine about?
A: This zine is a BNHA Japanese themed multiship zine!
Q: Do you have a Twitter account?
A: Yes, we do! Our Twitter!
Q: Does our piece have to contain a ship or can it be ambiguous?
A: It can be ambiguous! Even though this is a multiship zine, we also encourage non-shipping and friendship-centred pieces!
Q: Is this zine for profit or charity?
A: This zine will be name-your-price! There will be a minimum price depending on the bundle the buyer wants to buy, but they can choose to pay more if they desire.
When sales finish, we will distribute the money proportionally to all the contributors, as long as they want/can.
Q: Can a contributor forfeit their part of the profit?
A: Yes, of course!
Q: Will minors be paid?
A: Where we live, legally, people under 16 years can’t work, but people between 16 and 18 years can work and can get paid for their work if they are emancipated or have the permission of their parents. However, PayPal, which is the platform we’ll use to distribute the money, does not allow anyone under 18 to use it, so we’re not taking the risk. We will not pay anyone under 18.
Minors caught lying about their age will be automatically kicked out of the zine without their work being published or them being credited in it.
Q: Is this zine SFW or NSFW?
A: There will be two zines! One will be SFW and the other will be NSFW. Obviously, no minors will be allowed in the NSFW zine. Minors caught lying about their age will be automatically kicked out of the zine without their work being published or them being credited in it.
Q: How do we know what’s allowed in the zine in terms of gore/explicit content?
A: No gore/explicit content is allowed in the SFW zine. Gore, violence and sexual content is allowed in the NSFW zine as long as the piece is Japan themed.
Q: Are AUs allowed?
A: Yes, AUs are allowed as long as the piece is Japan themed.
Q: Are OCs allowed?
A: Unfortunately, no. BNHA already has a wide variety of characters for you to choose from!
Q: Will you keep the contributions for the different characters/ships regulated/evenly distributed?
A: When applying, you’ll be asked to give us at least three pairings and/or characters you'd like to draw/write for. If you're chosen as a contributor for this zine we'll assign one of the pairings/characters for you to draw/write for. This will ensure that there aren’t too many of the same ships and characters, but also that everyone gets to draw or write what they’d like to do.
We won’t, however, distribute the prompts. Before the creation period, there’s an idea check-in for each contributor to tell us any ideas they have for their piece(s). When their idea has been approved by a mod, they can go ahead with it!
We’ve also created a prompt list with ideas that they can use if they like them.
Q: How do the check-ins work?
A: The check-ins are done every month to check the state of the contributors’ works.
For the idea check-in, it is necessary to have the idea, that is, decide what/who you’re going to draw/write about.
For the first check-in, the artists must have the sketch done and, if possible, the lineart or start of the drawing, while the writers must have approximately 30% of the writing done.
For the second check-in, the artists must have started with the colours and have the composition structured (approximately 60%), while the writers must have approximately 60% of the writing done.
For the third check-in, the artists must have the drawing almost done (if possible, it should be in a state where the only thing to do are details or finishing touches), while the writers must have 90% of the writing done (if possible ready to be edited): in order for both to be handed in on time.
Q: If I’m accepted as a writer, do I need a beta?
A: You don’t need to have a beta, but your work must be proofread. If you don’t have one, one will be provided for you. If you do have a beta please inform us when the creation period starts.
Q: Will this zine be printed? And what size will it be?
A: This zine will be digital only.
Q: Can we apply using traditional art?
A: You can apply with traditional art! Traditional art is also welcomed in the zine as long as it is properly scanned.
Q: How many contributors do you plan on having?
A: It depends on the number of applications we get.
Q: Will participants get a free copy of the zine?
A: Yes, of course! The contributors will be emailed the PDF.
Q: What is a pinch hitter?
A: A pinch hitter is someone who takes over for a contributor if one drops out of the project.
Q: How will you communicate with the contributors?
A: All communication with our contributors will be through discord. We have a discord server set up and we'll send all the links and announcements through there. We’ll also answer any questions you might have.
Q: What are the requirements for artists and merch artists?
A: As an artist, you are required to give us three examples of your work, one of which must be a BNHA work. Backgrounds are required at least in one piece! In general, what’s your opinion on artists profiting off oc’s of there’s in fandoms? Like when they make little comics for them paired with a character, prints, etc from let’s say MHA? And they have people pay for exclusives such as Patreon and such. It’s ok if your not comfortable answering
Sorry about taking a while to get to asks. I'm really sick right now so finding strength to answer is hard. I don't think this is the right question. What we should be asking is should fandoms be profitable? And are there consequences if we have this mindset of profiting off of fandom?
Now, personally, I think OCs are much more fair game than characters that are the intellectual property of someone else, but everything else is very messy. I've paid artists for commissions and I think there's a lot of greyness here because people should be compensated for labor, but our current socioeconomic situation necessitates, more so than other generations, that we monetize our hobbies. That's definitely what's behind a lot of this - fandoms are profitable, artists especially can make livings off drawing fandom art, and I'd argue easier than with original art.
(there's another conversation to be had about the valuing of visual art over writing, especially in terms of fandom profitability. I've seen screenshots of zine runners outright telling writers that they weren't prioritized because people bought zines for art and I think this profit-maximizing hurts fandoms.)
When so much labor is spent on making art, and these days labor and time are expected to go into jobs full-time due to how high a cost of living is compared to stagnating wages worldwide, is it any surprise talented artists just realize that fandoms can be a primary source of income? No, not at all. But there's a question of how stable that is. Animanga fandoms also have issue of that Japan has long had a culture of doujins and unofficial works. I stumbled upon this article (it's a bit dated, though, as it's from 2011 and the landscape has irrevocably changed) while thinking how to answer this question and something stuck out to me:
So, I feel like doujins are like zines in this way - slim profits (though zines unfortunately have the staff hoping to make as much as possible over a good product) that typically escape the notice of the large copyright holders of the properties they portray. But more and more people are attempting to make money, and not just based on commission, which I understand a bit more as a person to person transaction. I'm specifically talking about patreon here.
Not to bring up Twitter/IG drama on tumblr, but this makes me think of the issue surrounding Sofia Samara and her art. Here's a link to an explanation. Now while there's SO MUCH to unpack there, I keep thinking about how a minor was able to make massive amounts of money drawing nsfw art typically for adults (and was paid by adults), all of off fan content. and there's several things I think are also worth paying attention to -
On one hand, fans afraid of cease and desists or who have gotten cease and desists for very specific content will usually capitulate and either completely take down their stuff, or edit (censor) it to the copyright holder's standards.
On the other hand, when artists and writers realize something is profitable, they'll likely focus in on that rather than perhaps experimental content specifically due to perceived worth/value. Sofia had this issue with when there were request for 'PoC' version of her art (kind of fucked given the characters are /Japanese/) and for a trans masc version of some of the characters she was already drawing. Her first impulse was to question whether these were popular/profitable and some of her comments really make it clear that this art was done with the intent of maximizing profit. The representation mattered only in terms of monetary value. So, I think this is important to note. On one hand, you don't want a fandom so scared of corporations and governments that it doesn't make content whatsoever. Issues of what is ethical to produce aside, China's ban on fan content and AO3 silences so many people, especially vulnerable gender and sexuality minorities. It's a state enforcing what is acceptable and not on its citizens and so often that specifically targets queerness, which fandoms have often a small haven for.
On the other hand, the mainstreaming of fandom and when artists and writers only approach their stuff with the idea of market appeal, the unfortunate dynamics we see in the rest of the world get replicated. Not that haven't already - but there's a bitterness in the idea that fandom will prioritize content made not by marginalized voices who might not have the same access to make content like others. Or in Sofia's case, she traced art with the intent to make money, adding a whole other layer of "iffy" to this.
In all, I seriously don't know if I have a stance on this as much a bunch of 'worries'. I have love for fan content and think it's as worthy of respect as other art or writing or other mediums. I also believe in the compensation of labor. But when people approach something like a hobby as a job, and a fandom as a market, there are going to be people shut out and hurt, and there's going to be a big change in what is made and prioritized by fandoms.
Additionally, when you add a barrier to access stuff, do you ask who sees your work? If I hid my best metas under a paywall, I'd exclude marginalized readers who cannot afford something like pay idk 10 bucks just to read my previously free content, would I? So I genuinely think this hurry to profit off fan content is something that should be questioned. We might lose a lot of the creativity and freedom that draws people to fandoms in the first place. We might shut out creators and consumers who simply don't have the resources compared to others to keep up. Is that really what we want?

Glad to see the Nendroid saga had a happy ending and an even happier Mrs. Teapot. Also, where do you get your Shiggy merch? Especially the mall hoodie plush and the Tsum Tsum, I've been looking all over Amazon for those little dudes!
Thank you! Shig is home, free and safe, and we’re both very happy :’)
Most of the merch you can see on the pic is from a zine called Triple Threats that happened to years ago (centred on Shig, Dabi and Toga as you can imagine). It came with a lot of little goodies!
But the two little plushies you mention are actually really special. This summer, I was lucky enough to travel to Japan for the first time with my family, and this is where I got these two little Shigs plushies! I bought them in Tokyo. That being said, I think you should still be able to order to find them online, but you might have to order them from Japan. Maybe on some MHA specialized website?
If anyone reading this post knows where to where to order a Shig Tsum Tsum or a Shig hoodie plush (or if you know another way to get them) please don’t hesitate to interact with this post to let anon know about it!

Mod Spotlights!
Finally ready to reveal the darling mods that will be a small part of making this zine shine! For the next 3 days, I'll be showing off two mods~!
"Hi, I'm Rivkae! Feel free to abbreviate. My love for Nagant has only intensified in the time since chapter 314 came out and I'm very much excited to dedicate this zine to her! I've modded several zines over the past few years and I'm excited to add this to the list!
Headcanon: Nagant was never really shown an outlet outside of training by the commission. Once she (partially) escapes their grip as a Pro-Hero she learns she quite likes writing poetry."
“Heyo! I’m your local fandom cryptid. Always been a big fan of comics and heroes so I feel quite at home with MHA lol! I’ve modded A LOT of projects which include Noctem Mortis as Head Mod.
Fun Fact: I love to listen to the top 100 songs from Japan and fall in love with the songs on there. It’s only later I find out that they’re actually anime songs.
What is (are) your favorite Nagant thing(s): Her design, style and attitude. She’s got a great tragic past, and I’m always a sucker for the hero realizing the system they work for is broken and doing more evil than the villains ever could and decides to go against it.”
