I love how genuinely weird all the Beatles were and sometimes I wonder if it was something that was just inevitable at the level of fame that they reached, if the way that people treated them would have made anyone else just as unhinged, OR if the universe just decided to pick the four weirdest motherfuckers alive to inflict godlike status of fame upon.

By the end of 1966, John was becoming less interested in going out. “He immersed himself in books about Christianity or the Dead or Tibet or Freud, looking for new ideas and philosophies all the time. He was really bored, that was the main thing. He thought he’d become Nowhere Man, which was why he wrote the song. “For a time, John gave up alcohol and meat. When he caught me stuffing my face with steaks and burgers, he’d say, ‘You know that’s someone’s mother you’re eating.’ I once caught him going through the Bible for clues to Christ’s eating habits. He was convinced Jesus was a vegetarian, but he couldn’t prove it. “Just for amusement, for something to do, he wanted me to commit a robbery with him. He knew that The Beatles could now enter any building in the world, just walk in, and be welcomed. So he thought he’d steal the Crown Jewels. Just walk into the Tower of London and take them. “’No one would ever suspect The Beatles, Pete,’ he said. ‘We are allowed in anywhere.’ “’Yes, but how do I get out afterwards,’ I said. ‘You can do what you want, John. I’ll come and visit you in jail.’”
Pete Shotton in The Quarrymen, Hunter Davies (2001)

When people are like “everything I know about the Beatles I learned against my will”. It’s against everyone’s will, babe. No on asks about group wanking.

“Sex and love have nothing to do with female and male. It is just whatever two souls happen to be. It could be male and female, and it might not be male and female. It might be female and female or it might be male and male. You can try to pretend that it doesn’t happen, and you can make fun of it and be snide, but that’s not really the rightful thing. I know, I know.”
— Bob Dylan ( from No Direction Home, March 1966, Robert Shelton)
