"Japan GP (15th Race): 3rd place (Suzuka International Racing Course) – 'A lot of people have been quite confident about the title, but one of the important things was that we didn't allow ourselves to drift away with the thought too much. Instead we concentrated on every single step and everything we have done this year and everything we have achieved – then wow. Muppet Fact #1251
Moppy (モッピー) is a Sesame Street Muppet who was created exclusively for Universal Studios Japan (USJ) for the park's tenth anniversary. According to the comic included in USJ's press release, Moppy was created from all the happiness that filled the park. Elmo collected this happiness in his bag and became luckier and luckier. Eventually, on the theme park's tenth anniversary, all of this happiness grew to create Moppy.

'Puella Magi Madoka Magica -Walpurgisnacht: Rising-' Announces Winter 2024 Debut
On Sunday, at Aniplex Online Fest 2023, Aniplex revealed a new teaser trailer for Puella Magi Madoka Magica The Movie: -Walpurgisnacht Rising- (Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica: Walpurgis no Kaiten).
The trailer revealed that the anime film, which continues the Puella Magi Madoka Magica main timeline after the events of the 2013 film Rebellion, will debut theatrically in Japan in Winter 2024.
Aniplex also revealed a new key visual for the film and announced that director Yukihiro Miyamoto, who directed the original 2011 television anime series, its two film adaptation, Rebellion, and spin-off Magia Record is returning for Walpurgisnacht: Rising at SHAFT.
He is joined by the previously revealed staff, including the original creators Magica Quartet, chief director Akiyuki Simbou, writer Gen Urobuchi (Nitroplus), and character designer Aokiume. Additional returning staff includes character animation designer Junichiro Taniguchi, who served as Chief Animation Director on previous projects, parallel world designer Gekidan InuCurry (Doroinu), who created the iconic, unique looks of the Witches Labyrinths, and composer Yuki Kajiura.
All of the original Japanese main voice cast from the series and Rebellion are set to reprise their roles:
Aoi Yuki as Madoka Kaname
Chiwa Saito as Homura Akemi
Kaori Mizuhashi as Mami Tomoe
Eri Kitamura as Sayaka Miki
Ai Nonaka as Kyouko Sakura
Kana Asumi as Nagisa Momoe
Emiri Kato as Kyubey
The anime was originally announced back in 2021, but in 2019 at Anime Expo, Homura's voice actress, Chiwa Saito, foreshadowed the sequel, saying that "the actual series has not ended yet" and that she was looking forward to everyone seeing Devil Homura, a reference to the ending of Rebellion, again.
Puella Magi Madoka Magica aired in 2011 to critical and audience acclaim. It became a cultural phenomenon and spawned two movie adaptations, Beginnings and Eternal, the sequel film Rebellion, and multiple manga and video game spin-offs. It is credited with popularizing mixing dark, postmodern tropes with the magical girl genre.

Hello ABL. First of all, let me just say, that I love your devotion to Seven Days. It was my very first bl and what got me to discover the genre. Of course it was all downhill from there lol. Just kidding. Maybe... Anyway. I've been doing this thing since the beginning of the year where I watch older jbls (usually before 2020, although that is not old by any stretch) to kinda get a broader view of the genre in Japan. I haven't been in this for that long so I'm still catching up. Some of the stuff I've watched so far. All the Pornographer series/films ; Dangerous Drugs of Sex; Takimu-kun 1 & 2; Junjou (2010); Athlete (2019) Udagawachou de Matteteyo (2015); Ai no Kotodama (2008) No Touching At All (2014) ; The Cornered Mouse Dreams of Cheese (2020). I've also watched things like His (series and film), Restart coming back home, Life Love on the Line, and I'm probably missing a couple but not a lot. So I was wondering if you had more recs for me. Anything you can think would fit with what I'm trying to do.
Thanks so much for your time.
Rose💜

KOKIA recorded her song Arigatou... ('Thank you...') again for a digital single, this time labeling the version 'KOKIA's version'. The single was available starting midnight from the night rolling into October 2.

Doki Doki Manchester - 9th and 10th September 2023
Saturday - Wei Wuxian as Yiling Patriarch (Mo Dao Zu Shi / Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation) - handmade
Sunday - Jack Barbarossa Bancoran (Patalliro!) - closet cosplay but holy hell did I hunt for that shirt
This was the final Doki Doki! I'm going to miss this event, as they always had a cultural based programme with talks, demonstrations, films, and games to go with the merch and artist stalls. They even had an after party at a nearby pub.
Doki Doki Festival was an independent charity event for Aid for Japan. As the children they supported after the March 2011 Tsunami have grown up, they have achieved their goal in supporting them into adulthood and will no longer be organising this event.
The venue was a gym. It was boiling hot, but we had a lot of fun. Loved the contrast of being asked for a lot of photos as Wei Wuxian and not even receiving a single acknowledgement of my existence as Bancoran. But that's OK. It's probably for the best.
The professional photos taken with the grey background were taken by www.kevinpack.com, with permission to post.
Disclaimers: The cigarette is a prop, the Work Out sign is an inside joke for the MDZS fandom, and please drink responsibly

TOKYO (Reuters) -The United States has started bulk buying Japanese seafood to supply its military there in response to China's ban on such products imposed after Tokyo released treated water from its crippled #Fukushima nuclear plant into the sea.
Unveiling the initiative in a Reuters interview on Monday, U.S. ambassador to Japan Rahm Emanuel said Washington should also look more broadly into how it could help offset China's ban that he said was part of its "economic wars".
China, which had been the biggest buyer of Japanese seafood, says its ban is due to food safety fears.
The U.N.'s nuclear watchdog vouched for the safety of the water release that began in August from the plant wrecked by a 2011 tsunami. G7 trade ministers on Sunday called for the immediate repeal of bans on Japanese food.
"It's going to be a long-term contract between the U.S. armed forces and the fisheries and co-ops here in Japan," Emanuel said.
"The best way we have proven in all the instances to kind of wear out China's economic coercion is come to the aid and assistance of the targeted country or industry," he said.
Asked about Emanuel's comments at a press conference on Monday, China's foreign ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said: "the responsibility of diplomats is to promote friendship between countries rather than smearing other countries and stirring up trouble".
The first purchase of seafood by the U.S. under the scheme involves just shy of a metric ton of scallops, a tiny fraction of more than 100,000 tons of scallops that Japan exported to mainland China last year.
Emanuel said the purchases - which will feed soldiers in messes and aboard vessels as well as being sold in shops and restaurants on military bases - will increase over time to all types of seafood. The U.S. military had not previously bought local seafood in Japan, he said.
The U.S. could also look at its overall fish imports from Japan and China, he said. The U.S. is also in talks with Japanese authorities to help direct locally-caught scallops to U.S.-registered processors.
'NOT A CHINA HAWK'
Emanuel, who was former U.S. President Barack Obama's White House chief of staff, has in recent months made a series of blunt statements on China, taking aim at various issues including its economic policies, opaque decision-making and treatment of foreign firms.
That has come as top U.S. officials, including Secretary of State Antony Blinken, have visited Beijing in an effort to draw a line under strained ties.
Asked if he considered himself hawkish on China, Emanuel rejected the term and said he was a "realist".
"I don't consider it hawkish but just consider it realist and honest. Maybe the honesty is painful, but it's honest," he said.
"I'm all for stability, understanding. That doesn't mean you're not honest. They're not contradictory. One of the ways you establish stability, is that you're able to be honest with each other."
He said China faced major economic challenges exacerbated by a leadership intent on turning their backs on international systems.
"The kind of loser in this is the youth of China. You now have a situation where 30% of the Chinese youth, one out of three, are unemployed. You have major cities with unfinished housing ... you have major municipalities not able to pay city workers. Why? Because China made a political decision to turn their back on a system in which they were benefiting."
The most recent official youth unemployment data from China, published in July before Beijing said it was suspending publication of the numbers, showed it jumping to a record high of 21.3%.
Emanuel said he was also keeping an eye on how China's leadership responds to the recent death of former Premier Li Keqiang, a reformist who was sidelined by President Xi Jinping.
"What's ... interesting to me, that I think is telltale, is how they will be treating his funeral and how they'll be treating comments about him," he said.
"I do think that there's kind of a section of China that sees what kind of policies he was pursuing as kind of the best of China. But that's up for China to decide."

FACTS AND STATS: Red Bull end a long wait for success in Bahrain as does Alonso
Max Verstappen blazed to victory under the Bahrain lights in the opening race of the 2023 F1 season, in which Red Bull took a one-two to begin their season in style, and Fernando Alonso turned heads with a brilliant podium finish. The 2023 Bahrain Grand Prix offered up some very interesting facts and stats, as well... The winner of the opening race has been the championship runner-up every season since 2017. Max Verstappen has never previously won the opening race of the season. He won the Bahrain Grand Prix for the first time on his ninth attempt. READ MORE: Verstappen leads 1-2 in Bahrain season opener as Leclerc retires and Alonso takes final podium place in style Red Bull have only previous won the opening race once (Australia 2011), and have never finished one-two in the first race before. Red Bull have not won in Bahrain for 10 years (Sebastian Vettel in the last daylight race here in 2013). Red Bull qualify one-two and finish one-two in a race for the first time since the 2013 Abu Dhabi GP. Max Verstappen won the Bahrain GP on his ninth attempt, and won in Bahrain on his 10th visit in Formula 1 (counting the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix) Fernando Alonso scores Aston Martin's second podium finish in the marque's 50th Grand Prix start. Alonso scores only his second podium finish in his last 122 Grands Prix, and his first since Qatar 2021. Alonso is 41 years, 219 days old today. Only one older driver has been on the podium in the last 37 years (Michael Schumacher was 43 at Valencia 2012). Yesterday was the 22nd anniversary of Alonso's F1 debut (Australia 2001). Sunday was Aston Martin's 50th Grand Prix start – and Alonso took P3 Carlos Sainz took P4, having finished in the same position at the final race of the 2022 season. Lewis Hamilton's fifth place was his worst finish in Bahrain since he was fifth in the 2013 race. Lance Stroll in P6 matches his best result from the 2022 season (sixth in Singapore). Stroll finished in the top six despite not driving the car in pre-season testing. With Russell in seventh, the two Mercedes cars finished 51 and 56 seconds respectively behind the race winner. Eighth-placed Valtteri Bottas scored points in Bahrain for the 10th consecutive time. From 2014 to now, Bottas has scored points in Bahrain Ninth-placed Pierre Gasly of Alpine scores points from last on the grid for the second time in his career (finished 10th in Mexico City, 2018). Williams scored in Bahrain for the first time since 2017, when Felipe Massa was sixth, thanks to Alex Albon's P10. Zhou Guanyu finished 16th but took fastest lap for the second time in his career, having done so in Japan 2022. Lando Norris finished 17th having made six pit stops. Sunday was his second-straight non-scoring Bahrain Grand Prix. via Formula 1 News https://www.formula1.com

2023 Year In Review
Previous Posts:
2020s: (2022), (2021), (2020)
2010s: (2019), (2018), (2017), (2016), (2015), (2014), (2013), (2012), (2011)
Yes, I am indeed writing this on December 18, 2024. You'll have to forgive me if the emotional details are sparse as I am essentially putting this together from scraps of memory and social media archives. It just feels wrong to skip a year, you know? Better late than never.
January
mostly occupied with adjusting to the celiac diagnosis. i had my endoscopy on january 31, which meant that for the two weeks prior i got to eat everything glutenous in the world that i wanted for the last time in my life. i had my friends over and everyone brought a gluten-containing item and we called it the "gluten olympics." we're talking bread pudding, chinese pork buns, soft pretzels. my intestines were DAMAGED but it was an homage to the last time i will get to enjoy these things in my life. the endoscopy was an awful 20 minutes of my life and i unfortunately remember all of the procedure but it confirmed that i do, indeed, have celiac and so that was that.
i began officially training for my first marathon.
February
honestly just a lot of running and a lot of graduate school.
learned i loved (and am pretty good at!) statistics.
March
more running, more graduate school.
ran the st. patrick's day road race 5k with my mom.
started getting into "longest ever run of my life" territory with my marathon training long runs each sunday which was genuinely very motivating and exciting. started to feel like i could actually pull this thing off.
drama started unfolding with my roommate/friend.
April
turned 29!
my brother and rie got engaged when they were visiting japan :)
went to vancouver with emma for rachel's bachelorette party which i was very happy to have been invited to.
spring slow pitch started up again.
drama got worse with roommate/friend. started to figure out an escape plan.
May
met a boy i really liked which had not happened in a WHILE. thought things were going well and then he ended things. sadness ensued.
RAN THE FUCKING SASKATCHEWAN MARATHON.
June
suffered extreme post-marathon blues.
immediately signed up for a trail race and started going to run club as a means of keeping the vibes alive. the guy who runs the run club expressed interest in me and kept coming on way too strong and ruining the vibe because i went to run club just to meet friends and he always wanted to run together and would like DM me after and constantly text me and ask me to hang out and then he invited me to his best friend's wedding in canmore as his date and i was like DUDE i barely know you so i ghosted him and run club.
went to lucas and mack's wedding in jasper and co-emcee'd with carly.
July
moved the FUCK out of my old place and into my own new place!
attended rachel & adam's wedding and went home with someone i shouldn't have but it was still an overall great night.
went to crowsnest pass to watch the 7 kings win sinister 7! honestly had an 11/10 time as a spectator/hype woman.
went to SEATTLE with my friends & some other random swifties and saw the fucking eras tour. i was so tragically broke from the damage deposit & increased rent unexpectedly from the beginning of the month + the weddings. also wow some of those swifties take shit SERIOUSLY and also this was my first time traveling with celiac and so i was actually quite stressed for the entire trip but the concert was awesome and i am glad i went.
August
ran a PB in the edmonton half marathon with no metrics on my watch.
September
my brother & rie got married! i officiated.
dylan & jon also got married.
i started year 2 of grad school and also started my second gig as a TA which was SWEET money but a lot of extra work on grading weeks. omg.
October
visited saskatoon for thanksgiving
November
just... grad school, TAing, and running.
December
more grad school, TAing, and running.
visited arizona and got to hang with uncle ron, auntie wendy, reid and lindsay for a few days which was genuinely SUCH a nice treat and maybe the first time in a long time i actually let myself feel like i was on vacation and just... relax.

Japan’s nuclear reactor restarted 13 years after Fukushima disaster shut down again
Japanese nuclear reactor, which restarted last week for the first time in more than 13 years after it survived a massive 2011 earthquake and tsunami, was shut down due to an equipment malfunction.
Reactor No. 2 at the Onagawa nuclear power plant on Japan’s north coast was re-commissioned on 29 October. It was supposed to start generating electricity in early November, but had to be shut down again on Sunday, five days after restarting. The fault occurred in a device linked to neutron data inside the reactor, according to Tohoku Electric Power Co.
The reactor is one of three at the Onagawa NPP, which is 100 kilometres (62 miles) north of the Fukushima Daiichi. The plant was operating normally and there was no release of radiation into the environment, Tohoku Electric said. A new re-commissioning date has not been announced.
The Onagawa NPP was hit by a 13-metre (42-foot) high tsunami caused by the earthquake, but was able to achieve a safe shutdown of the cooling systems of all three reactors.
Last year, the Japanese government adopted a plan to maximise the use of nuclear power, insisting on an accelerated restart of the reactors to meet its commitment to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
Concerns over the revival of nuclear power rose after a magnitude 7.5 earthquake struck Japan’s Noto Peninsula on 1 January 2024. The disaster killed more than 400 people, damaging over 100,000 buildings.

Getting ready
So this is a test posting as much as it is a request for prayers and positive thoughts as we prepare to depart on Sunday to Japan. The journey's a bit complicated as the Noto Peninsula is in a rural area.
In the past we've done cleanup, children's programs, visits to temporary shelters, and served meals. We don't know what to expect this time other than we've been assured it's going to be hot and humid. They'll watch out for our safety, so we'll see what transpires.
We'll see how Tumblr works, we'll let you know if we choose another option. See you soon from the Noto Peninsula!
P.S. This is who we're working with. Thank you Levi & Diane for your partnership!

I got bad news anime fans, especially Jojo fans, the Jojo anime and it's OST's producer Hiroyuki Omori had passed away on Sunday, cause of death currently unknown:
He was also a producer for When They Cry - Higurashi, Terraformars, Casshern Sins, Hakuoki: Demon of the Fleeting Blossom, Highschool of the Dead, and Hi Score Girl.
