Rambling About a Show (10/08/2022)
⚠️SPOILER?!⚠️
I started this season on Tuesday (10/04/2022) and finished on Thursday (10/06/2022).
Episode one of this season started off pretty intensely. It became more intense as each episode went on. Throughput it all I REFUSED to believe that Captain Do Kang-u killed his partner three years prior. Of course I'm aware there's a whole lot more going on than I realize.
So, first season the murder of her father is the motivation to catch the killer. This season it was the murder of her Captain Jang Kyung Hak. Now, I'm curious on what will be her motivation of season three.
When Bang Je-su (Kwon Yool) spoke his voice reminded me of this man.
Lee Sun-kyun. Both men have very unique voices, also deep. However, even though Bang Je-su reminded me of Lee Sun-kyun I knew it wasn't him. We didn't get a full face reveal until later in the series. So, what I did see of his face, I could tell that it was a different actor. Off topic of this show but I loved Lee Sun-kyun in My Mister.
Back on topic. I think Kwon Yool did a fantastic job as the villain. Bang Je-su is seriously messed up. His actions made me question what goes through his head and what is wrong with him. Also, how did he cover the smell of a rotting corpse? You'd think that would be noticeable.
I admit the episode about the child SA was difficult to watch. My heart broke for the girl. Then when her offender went after her brother my heart broke more.
This series is pretty intense, so I'd watch with caution. I enjoyed it and am excited to watch season three.

Stars aren't the only things up there. There's the sun, the moon, rain, and snow. The stars gather together to become the sun and the moon. The rain comes when the stars are feeling sad. And the snow... That's when the stars are crying tears of joy. They say that snow is a blessing from the stars. If you tell someone how you feel about them on a snowy day they'll accept it.

Voice 2 E1
Holy shit am I excited that this drama got a season 2. This drama had such an impact on me and I’m happy they got a season 2.
This time Lee Jin Wook (Do Kang Woo) joins the team, replacing Jang Hyuk. It is explained in the first episode why the new faces. The character played by Jang Hyuk, Moo Jin Hyuk moved to the USA with his son to continue treatment there. Yesung’s character, Oh Hyun Ho left to continue his studies and is replaced by Kim Woo Seok who is playing Jin Seo Yool. The rest of the cast remained the same although I haven’t seen Baek Sung Hyun’s character make an appearance yet.
3 years ago, Do Kang Woo helplessly watched as a mad psycho mutilated his partner. He was tied up and accidentally thrown overboard which saved his life. He was accused of the crime (how still eludes me since he was tied up like a dog by his wrists and in no way would leave a message written in blood... stupid detectives), but was let go since there was no sufficient evidence. He continues to stalk crime scenes trying to catch a hint that the killer has returned.
At the Golden Time headquarters, team leader Kang is trying to stop a schizophrenic lunatic from detonating a bomb on a subway and trying to get in contact with team leader Jang. Detective Jang is being abducted by someone, but since Kang Kwon Joo is busy with the case, didn’t pay attention.
The man drugs Detective Jang and puts his feet on the gas pedal and making the car plow unto some pedestrians, but not before taking his ear off as a souvenir for the mysterious masked man. Detective Jang tried to break and change the direction of the steering wheel, but it didn't help. He died on the scene, but the man was so upset he changed direction and venting his anger left the box with his ear fall out when he went to beat up the body of Detective Jang.
Do Kang Woo and his partner (I guess, since it’s not clear how they know each other or why they are working together since he’s suspended) arrives at the scene posing as a Detective and looks for clues.
Kang Kwon Joo arrives at the scene and tries to piece together when she sees Do Kang Woo taking evidence. Their chemistry in this scene is sizzling oooeeeefff...
Do Kang Woo is upset they aren’t doing their jobs and leaves to pursue the real culprit by himself. Kang Kwon Joo decides to use her gift to puzzle how the culprit could have left the scene and thinks it could have been a tow truck and thus start the chase to catch the real culprit. They are working with an asshole team who holds a grudge against Do Kang Woo since his brother was the one killed that night.
Behind the scene, the masked man is unmasked, but his face is still hidden, but is familiar enough to recognize (by me anyway) and it’s a character played by Kwon Yool, who plays evil characters quite well actually. He was really evil in Let’s Fight Ghost. During the first scene, his voice was giving me Lee Sun Kyun vibes (all low and manly), but turns out it was Kwon Yool. He gives me the creeps.
It hurt my heart to have Detective Jang killed off in the first episode. I kept hoping someone would save him, but I am excited for this drama and I love Lee Jin Wook... if it wasn’t for the fact that I am sleepy and need to go to work tomorrow, I’d be catching up with this drama (up to episode 4 already).

Sung Hoon ❤
After watching Oh My Venus and My Secret Romance, Sung Hoon oppa has really captured my heart. Omo!~
Sung Hoon (born Bang In-Kyu on February 14, 1983) is a South Korean actor. Sung Hoon was a member of the national swim team and specialised in butterfly stroke. He swam on the team for 14 years but had to quit because of a spinal injury. He then enlisted into the military, but the same injury sent him home early. Sung Hoon debuted as an actor in 2011 with New Tales of Gisaeng, landing the lead role despite having no modeling or acting experience.
Sung Hoon's breakthrough role was in New Tales of Gisaeng where he portrayed the character of an arrogant chaebol Ah Da Mo who was excellent in sports, business, women and popularity. His acting in this drama earned him a SBS Acting award for the Best New Actor in 2011.
In 2012 he acted in his first Chinese drama The Bodyguard. His character was a Security chief named Guo Xu. In the same year he acted in Faith as Chun Eum-ja, a villainous white-haired man with a deadly flute. Later that year he was cast in the drama The Birth of a Family as a businessman named Han Ji-hoon. He was once again cast as a lead character, a chaebol named Kang Moo Yool in 2013 in the drama Passionate Love. In 2014, Sung Hoon acted in a web drama 6 Persons Room. His character Min Soo, a successful businessman and womaniser until he suffers an injury and finds himself in a hospital surrounded by strange patients.
His popularity rose with the mini-series in 2015 Noble, My Love, in which he played a chaebol named Lee Kang Hoon, CEO of the Korean Branch of D.O.L, the world's biggest corporation. One day, he is kidnapped and dramatically escapes from the bad guys but he bleeds so much that he blackouts in front of an animal hospital. Yoon Seo, a veterinarian, finds him and cures him. The success of the mini-series led him to his next project Oh My Venus where he plays the professional boxer Jang Joon-sung AKA "Korean Snake", who is trained by John Kim (played by So Ji-sub). HIs character used to be an orphan but John Kim gladly took him as his student and trained him to become a successful boxer.
Sung Hoon is also a talented musical Disc jockey. He is conducting his DJ activities under the name ROI. In June 2015, Sung showcased his DJ skills at Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, China. Same year in August Sung performed in Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia.
In 2016 Sung Hoon returned to the Korean small screen with KBS's weekend drama Five Enough. He played the character Kim Sang-min, a model turned professional golfer and Yeon-tae's (played by Shin Hye-sun) love interest.
Sung Hoon was confirmed to cast in the film "Come Back to Busan Port" (literal title). He played the role of Tae-Soon's (Lee Jung-jin) younger twin brother. The twins were separated at an early age. The younger brother is a part of a crime gang and the older brother is a detective. Filming began in June, 2016 in Busan.
In November 2016, Sung Hoon landed a leading role in the drama My Secret Romance, in which he will play a second-generation chaebol, Cha Jin-wook. The drama will be pre-produced, and will be aired on the 17 April 2017 on cable network OCN, making it the first romance drama by OCN.
Saranghaeyo Sung Hoon oppa!!!~

My best Kdramas so far
Kdramas...how should I describe them? The ones that give me all the feels!
1. Misaeng (2014)
Misaeng takes the cake when it comes to how much it has affected me. And that’s what matters I guess? Misaeng is one of those really rare dramas few can compete with. Who knew the corporate life could be so intense? But also so real at the same time. You don’t need a mermaid or a goblin for a good story.
This drama makes me sad, because it doesn’t go the way I want to. Miracles don’t happen. Because, life. An incomplete life. Jang Geu-rae isn’t all that special, and he isn’t all that different from us. His hopes were crushed, over and over again. But eventually, hope will always be around.
Don’t get me started on Sales Team 3. Misaeng is as much Jang Geu-rae as it is for Oh Sang-shik. The cast is perfect. And also a huge shout out to Han Seok-yool for pulling off such a complex and easily disliked role.
Sometimes I still cry as I listen to their OST. True story. It might just be one of those that has changed my life.
2. Liar Game (2014)
Best ending ever award goes to Liar Game. Note to self: Do not watch it at 3am in the middle of the night. It’s so intense, I literally feared for my own life. And I guess that’s the beauty of tv and films. The level of immersion is off the charts. It also happens to be really well-made, and gets you on an emotional ride as we reflect our own faith in humanity.
3. Jealousy Incarnate (2016)
So fun to watch, so easy to love. The chemistry between the two leads is sizzling hot. Jealousy Incarnate questions masculinity, which is an especially brave choice for the writer to make, considering how much South Korea is still deeply rooted in patriarchy. Respect. Go, Pyo Na-Ri!
It started out slow, but proved itself worthy. I’ve said this but I’ll say it again, the cinematography is amazing. So is their OST!
Jo Jung-Suk is the star of this show, he sings and dances, and does it so well. I wish there’re more scenes of them though. Maybe he should start his own show?? And like many others, I think there’s no better person to play Lee Hwa-Shin.
4. Master’s Sun (2013)
It’s one of the few dramas I have watched twice, and guess what? I still cried the second time I watched it, in all the places I’ve already cried at before. Gong Hyo-Jin, who happens to be my favourite actress is Tae Gong-Shil, a quirky girl who can sees ghosts, but is afraid of them.
So Ji-Sub plays Joo Joong-Won, a CEO of a company who is stingy and haughty. They start crossing paths when Gong-Shil realises that she can’t see ghosts whenever she has physical contact with Joong-Won. Cute! Also one of the two dramas that got me on the Hong Sisters bandwagon. The other is The Greatest Love (2011), which is also very fun to watch.
5. Dear My Friends (2016)
Dear My Friends is a very special drama revolving around ahjumas and ajusshis, and it will always have a special place in my heart. Heartfelt and sincere, with incredibly well-portrayed characters, the most tender moments hit you at places you least expect. We are all stumbling through life, no matter how old we are. And we aren’t that different. I only hope that when I am 60 years old, I’ll have friends like them.
Honorary Mention: W Two Worlds (2016), Signal (2016)
Surprise! Coffee Prince isn’t here, but it’ll be on my Top 5 I-can’t-bring-myself-to-finish Kdramas. I guess it’s probably because I haven’t actually seen Coffee Prince when it first came out, and now that I’m too used to the formats of Kdramas nowadays, it gets pretty hard to watch older dramas. They seem a little slow in story progression and have questionable plot points, although it’s not like there aren’t any in dramas these days.
And the Reply Me series??? It was...okay. Though I’ve only watched the first one, ha.
What are your favourite kdramas?

“A road opens as you tread along it. A road that doesn’t open is not a road. Roads are opened to everyone. But not everyone can have it. “
Misaeng all started with this quote from Jang Geu Rae and then my thought that ‘ah, are they going to rewind back to the past before he was going to die?’. He was hit by a car in a chase after someone–who will later appear in the middle and end of the drama that you wouldn’t really realize this man Geu Rae was after is the man in the first episode and the last episode. It was funny why I didn’t really remember that guy, but I have a really bad memory–and you would really be bothered by what will happen next to him considering that the opening started strong and before you can even get the gist of what was happening, you get the cliffhanger of your life. It’s like having your friend tell you he has a secret but he won’t tell you about it and that frustrates you. You know? That kind of feeling when that happens.
Then enter Jang Geu Rae years back before the chase in Jordan and you’ll see this man who had little to none to arm him in the battle of life.
The past twenty-six years of his life centered only at playing Baduk, his mother, his tiny little room and his strong guilt about not being able to fulfill his life-long goal that he was like a lost child who didn’t know anything when he was shoved harshly into cruel reality. The realer world–which is far worse, more dangerous, more cunning, crueler.
Because of his inexperience in the outside world and his lack of educational background, having only a GED under his name and connections to back him up, he was often judged by the people, saying how unfair it was that he became an intern even though he clearly didn’t know what he was doing.
Yet, I admire Geu Rae for being able to prove them otherwise. His character has grown throughout the course of the entire drama. From the guy who didn’t know anything, to the guy people can rely on. He must be the most hardworking character out of all them and because of this, despite his own share of failures from time to time, he got to where he was.
Even if things didn’t end well with One International and he needed to leave, it was true that roads open. It just so happened that his stay in that company wasn’t his real calling.–it wasn’t the road meant for him to take. It was somewhere else. But that road has always been open to when he decided to walk that path after one door has closed.
Along this road, Geu Rae met a lot of good people that has contributed to shaping the way he is. One of them was Ahn Young Yi, our tough cookie.
Young Yi is probably one of the strongest female characters I have ever watched. She doesn’t do much aegyo, but she has a lot of charm, one of them being her strong will. Not the type that translates to being annoyingly stubborn. But I was just glad that despite being literally a damsel in distress–you’d pity her by how much badly she was being treated by her sexist bosses–she didn’t need a knight to save her. Yes, there’s Geu Rae and Baek Ki to create a potential love triangle with her and save her while on a white horse or with a sharp-edged sword, but Young Yi didn’t need it.
She knows that she is being looked down upon by men in general–that was her problem—but this made her stronger and more independent. It made her more enduring and she used this to her advantage until she was able to earn people’s trust to treat her as their equal. That was what I loved about her story. Her road to finally earning the respect that she has ever wanted all her life since her father.
Then there’s our ambitious Jang Baek Ki who has valued his specs more than anything. At first he may come off as the intimidating, smart (but nerdy) intern who knows everything, but this kids has his own share of frustrations especially when he met the Jang Geu Rae who only had a GED yet managed to enter a conglomerate such as One International.
Like, if I were in his shoes I would surely wonder and feel envious that someone who had lesser education than me can do that. I mean, it will probably feel very, very unfair. It’s just like being in the same office as someone who much or less only had a Grade School or High School diploma, you know? I find his reaction very justifiable considering most of us feel like that whenever something similar happens. Admit it or not. Besides, remember when I said I can identify with him the most? That’s why even though I sometimes hated him for disliking Geu Rae, that I waited–whether he ends up the bad guy or he also gets the plot twist to his character.
Baek Ki is so high up on his horse that he can’t even accept doing the job of a newbie–running errands, typing jobs, clerical work, you name it. He doesn’t like his work to be simple, knowing that he has vast knowledge he learned from college that’s why he wants to push for the complicated things when his work and his immediate boss only requires for him to know the basics.
That when he decided to rebel against his boss and would like to resign, I thought it was the end for him. Maybe he’ll transfer to another company, is what I thought. Gladly, he realized what went wrong. He attacked his opponent head on without even having a sword or a shield and eventually he also took Geu Rae’s advice to ‘wait when your opponent is strong’. That sounds dumb, but I think it is also right that ‘patience is a virtue’. And patience paid off. He learned to appreciate even a small compliment from his boss who rarely acknowledged him and he learned to back down when he should. Most importantly he learned how to climb down his high horse and let his feet remain on the flat ground.
This may sound biased, but out of the quartet, at first, he was the person I least liked. Han Suk Yool just came off as an asshole especially during his and Geu Rae’s time before and during the intern presentations.
But eventually, I saw Suk Yool as a better person as they became full-time employees in One International.
This doesn’t mean though that he wasn’t annoying. Heck, he loves gossip so much that his feet travels faster with the prospect of a new rumor. And he’s too proud of himself that he boasted of his boss favoring him over, when in reality he was being slaved by his boss. He only later realizes this though; that he was victim to the kind of boss who only sits around and pass over his own work to his boss. You must know that kind of boss. One way or another, once in your life, you will meet this kind of people.
Anyway, in contrary to how the other three attacked, Suk Yook took the angry way out and charged like a furious bull at his boss. Because of his brazenness that most of his plans fired back and he could only voice out his frustration by trying to be better than his boss and boycotting him (who is a worse asshole by the way). For half of his first year, he has hated his boss like his life depended on it.
Yet, one thing I definitely would admire about Suk Yool is that he isn’t the type of character to do some thoughtless revenge after going down that path for so long. He has met an opportunity upon discovering his boss’ ultimate secret but instead of using it to his advantage he instead got rid of the evidence.
However, it seems that after all karma is true and the universe conspired to help him a bit later on without him doing anything. His boss will eventually get the punishment that he deserves and it will probably one of the most humiliating but funniest scenes. You better get to that part. I mean, who doesn’t want to see once in a while a spectacle like that about your boss who you secretly hate with all you have? lol.
I’m just glad that Suk Yool learned to wait and he got the justice he deserved for someone who had been slaved unfairly.
If you ask me if I love Oh Sang Sik to the moon and back I wouldn’t say no for an answer. This man is just so lovable. His character is a mix of dedication, compassionate, humility and sincerity. I mean, to have this kind of boss is going to be awesome. It would be an honor to be taught by such an upright and wise man like him. The one who would treat you like a family, too.
It’s just that in reality, it is hard to find or come across this kind of boss and he seems pretty too good to be true but I am just glad that he is in Geu Rae’s life because he served as his ray of hope in his dark world. He was able to help release Geu Rae’s potential and at the same time, even without his intention to, he is able to share his virtues to the other characters in the drama.
Let’s not forget our minor characters who also contributed a lot in their own little ways to build up Misaeng’s story. Kim Dong Sik, who acted as Mr. Oh’s loyal subordinate and support to Geu Rae. Geu Rae’s mother who was always so proud of him and a source of strength to him. Mr. Oh’s wife, who despite her tough character brings balance to his life and one of his great motivators. Department Head Kim Boo-Ryeon, who has been Mr. Oh’s mentor in his early years. The handsome Assistant Manager Kang, who taught Baek Ki all the basics that he needed to know. The fierce Department Manager Kim Sun-Joo, who is just and doesn’t favor anyone. Assistant Manager Ha Sung-Joon, who despite his sexist and rough character, slowly came to accept Young Yi. And then there’s Executive Director Choi Young-Hoo, who we probably thought as the ultimate villian and yet appeared just as human as everyone else.
In conclusion, all technicalities aside, I will say that Misaeng is like an oasis in the desert. It has shown me the kind of drama that no one will find in any other dramas out there. And though it centered mostly on the normal lives of people–and that may sound kind of boring–and the depressing fact of the world being an unfair place, I say that it is my oasis because it has also shown me hope; a kind of positiveness or attitude that looks at the brighter side of things despite of one door closing on them.
It has also shown me that not every drama needs a villain because a person is neither just bad or just good. They are always both. You may think that a person is probably the worst scum on earth, but at one point they are just like us, imperfect. We have our own flaws and we share on having them. It is refreshing to watch this on tv and not just find someone either really good or bad or stupid or perfect. The way they portrait this is so on point and not exaggerating that I think Misaeng is probably the only drama who managed to do this. The events are so circumstantial that you might even empathize with the justifying reason why a character was made that way.
At this point I know I probably look like I am just rambling (I may be), but I just can’t express how happy I am to have watched this drama. It is truly an honor to see Im Siwan in this light and discover these great characters and story that made everything worthwhile. I really thought that I may stop in the middle of watching this drama and just forget about it completely, but the drama has taught me a lot and made me relate so much that I forgot about dropping it. I don’t think that I will ever have the heart of considering that again.
It is truly an amazing journey.
Not just because of victories, but of failures and hardships that we must acknowledge exist even in reality, which they have shown quite well in the drama. Doesn’t it feel good to know that someone can relate with you and that someone is bold enough to expose it to the world like this? That we are all struggling the same no matter what our social statuses are.
It is good to know that it can be tackled like this and that things ended well even if it was an open end. Anyway, roads open like they said in the first and last episode. But even if there are no roads, the path we walk on can be the road. So, we can just imagine and hope that things from the end of the story will be a happy beginning in the lives of our heroes.
I will really like a second season, too, to be honest. I mean, I want to know if there is going to be a potential love relationship between the characters and I also want to know how their company will grow. It would be nice to know the future, but I guess that will be too much to ask, huh?
Nonetheless, I really love this drama to the moon and back.
And if I can give an end rating, this time it’s going to be 5 out of 5.
PS. I will definitely miss the quartet. In fact, I am still missing them even after it has already been a few days since I finished Misaeng.
Review: Misaeng (Last Impression) “A road opens as you tread along it. A road that doesn’t open is not a road.
