Arthdal Chronicles
The first season of this fantasy story hits close to home. It depicts the cruelty and greed of villages that have the resources, food and technology to take advantage of others. The story doesn't waist time, the first episode starts with the Arthdal leaders asking the Neanthals to become part of their power. The Arthdal are afraid of the peaceful but strong Neanthals and pretend to negotiate, knowing they are not interested. And what do they do? The Arthdal leaders trick their own people and kill the Neanthals in order to take their lands. Asa Hon learns this when she is in the middle of the attack, and in order to safe Neanthal children, she leaves with a child and Ragaz, with whom she later has children with.
Arthdal continues to annihilate weaker villages, taking them as slaves for hard labor. It is Tagon, an Itgu in hiding, that makes all this possible for Arthdal. And even though he is loved by the village as a hero, his father and other leaders are trying to find ways of killing him, including making Mihol's daughter, Teaelha, into a spy. Even though Tagon is cruel, there is an innocence to his longing to be loved and accepted by the people. His relationship with Teaelha is of a love stronger than their ties to their families and interests. And even though we don't like what he does, some times we do wish him success in his endeavors and fight against the Arthdal leaders for power.
But it is the story of the Wahan Tribe that reminds us that Tagon and all Arthdal are cruel and greedy people that have no respect for others. This is a peaceful tribe in a far away land. They are more like Neanthals in their believes but they are also prejudice against Itgus like Eunseom, whose mother leaves him there before she dies. Eunseom's only true friend is Tanya, the daughter of the priestess and scientist of the village.
It is almost impossible to reach the place but Tagon and the Arthdal leaders find the way to reach the land, it takes them 10 years to reach it and less time to destroy it and take its people as prisoners and slaves. Here we see the struggle of these people who get separated, sold into slavery and fight with each other and their enslavers in order to survive. But it also shows the Wahan people mesmerized by the innovations and way of life in this civilized village.
Tanya ties Eunseom to her by naming him her dream and he will do anything to save her, but destiny takes them into two different paths. These two characters are also very naive, their innocence and sense of justice is what makes others follow them. They both want to forge a world where everyone is equal, no prejudice against people that are different, everyone on equal standing.
Tanya's relationship with Saya is a sad one at best. She is using Saya while Saya genuinely likes her. And even though, at some point she sees him as a friend and cares about him, she still uses his affection towards her. But she is not the only one using Saya, so is Tagon who separated him from his mother when he was a child and Teaelha who became his caregiver for Tagon. Still, Saya is not stupid and he knows how to play the game.
This first half ends with the downfall of the rule of the Arthdal leaders: Daekan, White Mountain, and Hae tribes; giving way to Tagon's rule under the name of Aramun; which damages the relationship he had with Teaelha. Tanya is now the high priest while Eunseom becomes a god for the Ago tribe and starts unifying weak tribes to end fights among them and focus on fighting against their common oppressor.
The second season starts 8 years after the final events of the first one. And the fighting is no longer centered on colonialism, but on taking down a threatening force that is not letting them continue with their expansion of territories. I have heard of people wondering why the change of actors for critical characters. I wouldn't have minded seeing the same actors since they are excellent ones and we got used to them. But I didn't mind the changes, I think that these new actors, brought some darkness to the characters that had been innocent and naive in the first season. They have learned to play the game and they are using what they have learned for their gain.
Tagon and Teaelha are no longer the close couple they had been, but they still love each other and have a son that unites them. Theirs is a tragic and powerful love story, tainted by the struggle for power.
In this half, we see Tagon's fall, and the rise of the ideology that drove Tanya and Eunseom into battle. But we are left with an open ending that promises more blood and restlessness. Saya wants Arthdal for his own since he can't have Tanya's love; and Teaelha wants to take Arthdal back as she promised Tagon; while Eunseom struggles to make Arthdal the land he and Tanya had envisioned.
It is the bloody story of a civilization in this fantasy world that reflects the truth about the history of our world so full of tyranny, blood and inequality.
It is not a story with clear lines and we will switch sides as their goals become twisted, but so is the story of rulers in the past and the present. This is a fantasy story, but it also criticizes what makes a country a country - it's bloody history of greedy men.

Chemistry between actors was amazing, but the storyline tho... in KDrama
Kang Sora as Oh Hara and Jung Seungjo as Goo Eun Beom in Strangers Again: the story ruined everything
Lee Jaewook as Baek Kyung and Kim Hye Yoon as Eun Dan Oh in Extraordinary You:only if Baek Kyung wasn't written as a red flag by the manhwa writer
Jeon Doyeon as Gil Bok Soon and Koo Kyo hwan as Han Hee Seong in Kill Bok Soon: the storyline was good for a crime thriller but unfortunate for them
Moon Sangmin as Lee Jihan and Jeon Jong Seo as Na Ah Jung in Wedding Impossible :they get happy ending but the storyline was messy imo
Lee Jaewook as Han Tae Oh and Choi Hee Jin as Kang Hee Joo in The Impossible Heir : yall know why. Everything in this drama was messed up except the chemistry between these two actors
Ki Do Hoon as Yangcha and Kim Ji Won as Tanya in Arthdal Chronicles: basically Kim Ji Won has chemistry with everyone she acts alongside
Lee Jae In as Lee Yoon Seo and Cha Woo Min as Ko Kyung Jun in Night Has Come: honestly I didn't even consider them before I saw all those edits on YT
Go Youn Jung as Jung Jisoo and Seo In Guk as Kim Seong Hyeop in Death's Game: even the smallest moments between them was enough to establish how beautiful chemistry they had
Lee Dohyun as Go Chang Myung and IU as Jang Man Wol in Hotel Del Luna: one of the best pairings in a KDrama to exist

Big Mouth
This 16 episode long series had me at the edge of the seat from beginning to end. It kept me guessing and each plot twist made things more complicated. It was heart breaking in its injustice and there were things that were never really clarified. There were murderers that stayed unpunished and the mystery behind Chairman Kang was left in the air; but I still liked it. This is the kind of series that is best experienced without knowing much so I won't say anything else.
But if you like crime stories, i recommend this series.

Ahn So-hee, an excellent reasoning for elaborate operation design
In the tvN Monday-Tuesday drama 'Missing: They Were There 2' Ahn So-hee is playing a brainchild between Go Soo and Heo Jun-ho.
'Missing: They Were There 2' (Director Min Yeon-Hong Lee Ye-Rim/Screenwriter Ban Gi-Ri Jeong So-Young/Planning Studio Dragon/Producer Mace Entertainment Doo Frame/Hereafter 'Missing 2') is a reactivated 'missing people', a new village of spirits, and their earnestness. A fantasy chase drama of 'The Soul Seeing Combi'.
It is heart-wrenching with a warm-toned story that uncovers the truth behind the deaths of the residents of the 3rd industrial complex in the village of spirits and allows them to overcome resentment and sublimate.
Among them, Lee Jong-ah (played by Ahn So-hee), based on her excellent hacking skills, plays a big role as a brain helping Kim Wook (played by Go Soo) and Pan-seok Jang (played by Heo Jun-ho), exuding a strong presence. He helps the investigation of the case of Kim Wook, Jang Pan-seok and Detective Shin Joon-ho (Ha Joon) by finding all the people of the Soul Village Industrial Complex 3, from their personal information to their whereabouts at the time of their disappearance, even with small clues.
Lee Jong-ah not only makes perfect inferences based on the collected information, but also sets up a meticulous strategy to catch the criminals who harmed the missing people, adding to the speed of solving the case with quick brain rotation and executive power.
In particular, in episode 7, Lee Jong-ah uses the mountain location signs 1-8 that Jang Pan-seok found in a picture of a child, Iroha (Kim Ha-eon), as a clue, and quickly searches for mountains with the same sign, which is the mountain with the highest probability of having Iroha's body. Following the discovery, he repeatedly emphasized the sign to Detective Il-Doo Baek (Ji-Han) of the missing team to induce a search.
In episode 10, Lee Jong-ah heard that the serial killer who killed Jang Pan-seok's daughter's local friends was related to the Blue Bird Hope Foundation, and analyzed all the volunteers' applications to find out that the serial killer was caregiver Kim Gun-joo (played by Oh Yoon-hong). Moreover, he played a big role in uncovering all the additional crimes of Kim Geon-joo, who had been murdering poor people in the name of making them peaceful.
Lee Jong-ah opened a cafe near Industrial Complex 3 to cover the expenses needed to find the missing people, and set up a new hideout to facilitate the investigation. A bar that warms the heart by doing its best. Expectations are rising as to what kind of activity Lee Jong-ah will do in the future as a strong supporter of Kim Wook and Jang Pan-seok.

Doomsday Book (2012)
When you watch a horror anthology, you have to sort of expect a mixed bag. I can't think of any where every chapter is of the same quality. Doomsday Book continues this trend, with one weak entry, one that's ok and a third that is far above the other two. There is no wraparound story, so let’s just dive right in.
A Brave New World
A Brave New World begins with a geeky, military research scientist Yoon (Ryoo Seung-bum) being bullied by his family into cleaning up their disgusting home before they leave on holiday. His luck turns around when he goes on a date with an attractive young lady (Go Joon-hee). Their evening is ruined by contaminated food, which turns them into flesh-eating zombies. The plague begins to spread uncontrollably.
There’s nothing you haven’t seen before here if you’re familiar with the zombie-genre classics. There isn’t even some kind of Korean twist or anything, it’s just a basic zombie story where no one understands what is going on until the zombie apocalypse is too far gone to stop. The one element that makes it stand out is one that makes absolutely no sense. Early in the short, Yoon throws away a moldy, disgusting apple in the garbage. That garbage gets recycled into cow feed, which for unexplained reason becomes the cause of the zombie outbreak. Is it a coincidence? Is it symbolism? According to the biblical quote at the end, taken from the book of Genesis and telling us about the forbidden fruit in the garden of Eden, it’s some sort of cautionary tale about knowledge or humanity getting into business it has no business in. It makes no sense.
The Heavenly Creature
Easily the best of the three stories, Park Do-Won (Kim Kang-woo) is a young technician called to inspect an android named RU-4. The robot (voiced by Park Hae-il) has given itself the name of In-myung and claims not only to have become a Buddhist but to have achieved enlightenment after working (and studying) in a monastery. The monks there want to know whether it is telling the truth or if it is a technical glitch. When Do-won gives the robot a clean bill of health, no one knows how to respond.
There are many fascinating ideas in this short. The robot has become self-aware and understands the un-scientific subject of religion. If the first robot Buddhist can attain enlightenment while so many humans fail to do so, what does it mean? Robots are already more durable, more intelligent, and better at countless tasks than we are... are we also inferior to them in matters of faith? Seeing the characters debate the question is terrific. Even if you aren't familiar with Buddhism, it's broken down very well and easily digestible. The one gripe I have with The Heavenly Creature is a long monologue about why robots need to be different from humans and what they can and should be able to be and do. It’s interesting, but feels forcibly inserted and kills the pacing. It's well worth your time but would have benefitted greatly from being a standalone film with enough room to spread out its messages and ideas more organically throughout.
Happy Birthday
A young girl named Min-seo (Jin Ji-hee) orders a replacement 8 ball for the one she broke. To do this, she steals her mother’s credit card and places an order through a strange website. Hopefully, her pool-obsessed father (Lee Seung-jun) and uncle (Song Sae-byeok) won’t notice it’s gone until the replacement arrives in the mail. She throws the original ball out of the window and it falls into a strange hole in the street. Two years later, the planet is being threatened by an asteroid 10 kilometers in diameter headed straight for them. In the upcoming end of the world, the dysfunctional family begins to bond.
There are some nice moments in the short and some amusingly unexpected twists. but this fails to live up to its potential. We’ve got theories about wormholes, aliens, ironic deaths, moments you think are going to be dark but aren’t all jammed in next to some stuff that doesn’t make any sense. There are funny moments with the side characters of the film (seen in news broadcasts and infomercials) and I really like the premise, but the ending is terrible. If you see the film and don’t get why, ask yourself if there was not a better way to stop what happens from happening (considering what the game of pool is all about) and if the destruction we see is really what it would look like, particularly considering the circumstances. Also, why is there an alien? It’s a mess. Someone could polish rework this one into a solid horror comedy though.
Overall, Doomsday Book is worth watching, but not good enough for you need to rush out or make a big effort to see it. Your best bet is to rent it. Then you get the opportunity to see the stories at a low price. It’s sort of in that middle where you’re kind of let down but also pleased with the good moments. (On DVD with English subtitles, June 27, 2014)

I like my menfolk pretty.
Just look at these sexy flower boy muthafuckers. These grown ass men are all accomplished actors who work their asses off every day, and they ALSO sing, dance, do martial arts, archery, sword fighting, AND they know their way around a make-up counter. They ain't got time to play that pitifully outdated Fragile Male Ego Game.
I meant to include Jang Dong-Yoon's photo from Tale of Nokdu, but I forgot and I'm hella lazy so fuck it. Instead I give you these gifs of him in one of my most favoritest kdrama scenes EVER. This fan dance had me utterly smitten.
There's so much smoky-eyed idol beauty that I'm spoiled for choice. There's lovely shiny pretty flower boy magic everywhere I turn. I sense a second pretty menfolk post may be necessary. Maybe a third, lol. But for now I'll just settle for a little pixie snack: Hwang In-Yeop, aka the Prince of Fairy Magic. So much sparkly eye I wanna scream!
If all this is getting you hot and bothered, just wait till I post about Hallyu men looking stunning in skirts and dresses. All the sexy shiny will blow your mind.
P.S. Lee Hong-Ki (top, right) gets bonus points cuz he loves fancy pants cosmetics, he can belt out a ballad like nobody's biz, and he released a book of nail art for dudes. Daebak!
P.S.S. I know that Kim Soo-Hyun looks kinda uncomfortable with the amount of product they slathered on his face for that shoot, but it still counts, cuz that little lip biting thing is super kewt, right?!
