Janeway is literally me going for the most complex and morally grey person even if a perfectly nice and loyal person exists

Honey
Whumptober, Day 19: “I’ll take one final step, all you have to do is make me.” | Psychological Fandom: Star Trek Voyager Ship: Kathryn Janeway/ Kashyk CW: Dubious consent, trauma response
--- Kashyk hesitated in the doorway of his temporary quarters and fixed Kathryn with a leering gaze that was also, somehow, almost timid. “Captain, why don’t you join me? I’ve been looking forward to trying your replicator and perhaps you could help me find something appropriate to toast the evening’s accomplishments.”
“I’m afraid that won’t be possible. I’ve had your replicator taken off line,” Kathryn replied with a smug smile.
“All the more reason for you to join me. I’m sure that you could restore access while you are here to keep an eye on me,” Kashyk arched an eyebrow as his voice flowed over her like honey.
Not for the first time, Kathryn wondered distantly if the Devore didn’t actually have some sort of telepathic tendencies himself because she really should know better… “One drink,” she agreed, nodding to reassure the security ensign at the door.
As soon as the doors slid shut behind them, Kathryn began to regret her decision to stay. The warm, honey-coated feeling from the corridor was gone, leaving her feeling cold and sharply alert. The air was tinged with the faint scent of leather mixed with something metallic - blood, probably - Kathryn thought to herself with a wince. This was the smell that would linger in her ready room after each Devore inspection, and it made her stomach turn.
She ached to leave, to return to her quarters and bury her nose in a cup of coffee, to take a long hot bath until the scent was nothing more than a distant memory. But she couldn’t allow herself to be weak in front of this man. He was not to be trusted, but she needed him to trust her . So she stayed.

PLOT BUNNY GIVEAWAY: Can someone please write me a fanfiction to this?
I need Janeway to be saved by El Chakotay from the gangster Kashyk. 😍
Or the other idea we had was this being Chakotay's secret holodeck program where he lets out his anger over Counterpoint by using Kashyk for target practice.... 🤣
Or combine both... I don't care. I just want this fanfiction. 🙈🙊😅
PS: I blame @jemabean-blog for this. 🤣😚

What this episode needed was more Chakotay. We really needed to see his side of all of this.
I’m personally not a fan of this episode. Kashyk is certainly a bad guy and I will always write him as such. He’s irredeemable and should be written that way. He makes a good dark fic villain… 👀
"Kathryn, you are not sleeping with that man!" - Chakotay "Want to bet I will?" - Kathryn "Hehehe she will…" - Kashik "You two, resolve this sexual tension without bringing the alien into it!" - Tuvok
*the three of them with their hands on their hips makes me die hahaha

Janeway and Kasyik if he actually changed and stayed!
I love Janeway and Kashyk, but a big part of why is that they are doomed. In order for them to work, everything has to be different. That said, I like this thought experiment!
Scenario one, Kashyk is always on the side of good and the reveal doesn’t happen because he is truly attempting to help the refugees. Kashyk and Janeway succeed in their deception on the Devore, go through the wormhole or whatever, Kashyk defects to the Federation and takes up residence on Voyager, where he and Kathryn pursue a romance. This scenario sets up some potentially interesting dynamics between Kashyk and Chakotay as rivals, Kashyk and Tuvok the telepathic security chief, Kashyk and Neelix since Kashyk’s use on the ship would be similar to Neelix’s in the earlier seasons, and he and Kathryn would have to navigate their relationship around her duty and his angst, etc. But overall it’s not the most creative set up.
Scenario two, everything that happens in “Counterpoint” happens but Kashyk shows up alone in a shuttle a second time claiming to have ‘actually changed’ now. Janeway does not believe him, he begs her to listen, explains he’s not only disgraced and lost all authority, he’s branded a traitor by his people and an enemy by the refugees. Janeway is unimpressed, tells him he IS an enemy to the refugees and also to Voyager so bye. He says he has nowhere else to go, he’ll be killed. Most of the crew is like, eh, not our problem, but someone – Neelix? I mean, it would be Kes if she were still around (why wasn’t Kes listed among the telepathic crew? Suder was and he died before she left) so I guess Neelix or Tuvok (but he might play the Prime Directive card here), anyway, someone – says not saving him is the same as killing him and we are better than that. Janeway SIGHs (possibly Janeway is the someone and she can’t tell if her Starfleet Principles™ or her attraction is driving it and she is v angsty about it all), brings Kashyk on board and throws him in the brig.
He stays there at least two weeks while the senior staff argue about what to do with him. At this point they’d have to go back into Devore space to take him back and that would mean risking the ship and their telepaths all over again as well as going n the wrong direction and for what? Eventually they decide to drop him on the next appropriate planet they arrive at and be done with it (Tuvok brings up the Prime Directive here, too, but he is outvoted). Janeway heads to the brig to tell Kashyk what’s what.
Kashyk obviously hates this plan and tries to change her mind. He pitches the alternative that he (again, like Neelix in the beginning) knows about this region of space and he can help her. He provides a few examples, she starts to waver, and, again, can’t tell why. She doesn’t trust herself so she asks Tuvok to vet his sincerity and/or usefulness to the ship.
Tuvok and Kashyk have a long, twisty, conversation. Kashyk is culturally opposed to and frightened of Tuvok’s telepathy. But he’s also desperate. Ultimately Tuvok advises he remain on the ship, confined to quarters until he’s completed some kind of rehabilitation, but it’s not right to let him off on a random planet (his reasoning is Kashyk’s survival would be questionable, it’s unfair to the random population, and Janeway would blame herself).
Thus Kashyk is moved to quarters and starts meeting with Tuvok twice a week for training in sensitivity and Starfleet protocol. He is given access to parts of the database so he can read up on Federation history, philosophy, sociology, and art. He listens to music incessantly. He becomes obsessed with old Earth movies, anything starring Katherine Hepburn. He starts some kind of crafting hobby. Tuvok is his main, basically only, companion, and slowly Kashyk’s starts to question and eventually reject his telepathy bias. He becomes deeply depressed. Agonizes over all the crimes he’s committed. Mourns his society, his convictions. And he’s lonely and scared.
Janeway meets with him once a month, and anytime something comes up he might be able to comment on. Chakotay tells her to let Tuvok do it, but she insists it has to be her. About six months in they’ve already moved past where he’d be most helpful, and it’s clear to her he’s both depressed and repentant. She starts to visit him more frequently just to talk. Maybe watch one of those movies. They slowly fall back into the tentative friendship they’d shared, and the attraction, though they both suppress it, because it hurts too much. This continues for another six months.
Eventually Tuvok and Janeway petition for Kashyk to be released into the crew. There is push back, but ultimately Starfleet believes in rehabilitation and he gets a conditional release and a position in Security (though he does not receive weapons access unless directly supervised by Tuvok and then only in emergency situations). Janeway and Tuvok make an effort to be seen with him in the mess hall so as to integrate him into the crew. Neelix joins in, then Tom, and slowly the crew start to welcome him into their space. He publicly apologizes to the telepaths, and then to the crew in general. He’s good at his job and by now an expert on Earth and with some time and space he becomes part of Voyager’s crew of misfits and miscreants.
It takes two years for Kashyk and Kathryn to reunite, but they are rewarded for their patience and hard work with a relationship of equals built on acknowledgement of individual and cultural wrongdoing, redemption and forgiveness, and honesty. Which is a far cry from the deception and desperation their earlier relationship was based on. They are both better for it.
Send me a ship and I’ll give you my (brutally) honest opinion on it and/or write a scenario/give you a series rundown of my headcanons

Star Trek Voyager: Counterpoint
Episode 5.10 “Counterpoint”
The episode begins with a Devore inspection. Janeway tells the inspector that they know the drill. Kashyk appears in Janeway’s office. He’s playing classical music, Mahler Symphony 1. He has replicated coffee for both of them and then dismisses Prax and the other guard. The inspectors are both thorough and rude. The Devore do not embrace strangers. Kashyk asks about Tuvok and Vorik and the Betazoids, Suder and Jeroth. Janeway tells him that they are all dead. Kashyk says that if she was harboring telepaths he would have to arrest her. Kashyk asks Janeway if she trusts him, and she says she does not. Prax suggests they impound the ship for deviating from its course, but Kashyk lets them go. He offers his friendship to Janeway. Kashyk leaves and Janeawy rolls her eyes. Janeway has been storing Tuvok, Vorik and several other telepaths in the transporter.
They can’t continue to go into transporter suspension. They are supposed to rendezvous with a transport vessel, but the transporter vessel changes the rendezvous coordinates. KJ and Neelix have a great relationship. She can be almost coy with him at times.
Kashyk approaches Voyager in a ship, alone. He meets her in her ready room. Chakotay looks at Janeway with obvious concern. Kashyk tells Janeway he’s defected and asks for asylum. He tells her the rendezvous is a trap and that he knows she has 12 refugees aboard. He says he could have exposed this at any time, but he wants to protect them. He says his people know about the wormhole and are looking for it. Kashyk gives Tuvok their patrol schedule so they can avoid inspections. Janeway tells Kashyk she must remain under guard. One of the aliens knows about an alien named Turat who may be able to help them find the wormhole.
Janeway questions Kashyk about his motives for his change of heart. He says he’s been looking for an opportunity to leave; he says she was the perfect opportunity because she’s a humanitarian. She tells him she doesn’t trust him. She says she’ll get him to the wormhole, but with some restrictions. He says he’s used to being surrounded by armed guards. “Except this time they belong to me,” Janeway tells him. “Consider them a reminder that Voyager is my ship.” Kashyk replies that no one could doubt that. She is powerful, suspicious, poised.
They find Turat but he evades them. As they are discussing what to do, Kashyk moves to stand at Janeway’s shoulder. Chakotay watches them. Janeway offers Turat a valuable material in exchange for his knowledge. Janeway and Kashyk play a game to get Turat to reveal what he knows; the chemistry between them is undeniable. Turat tells them that the wormhole moves all the time. Janeway holds the valuable material hostage and looks at Turat coyly, flirting with him. She and Kashyk exchange a heated glance when they win.
KJ and Kashyk search for the wormhole, late at night in the messhall. She’s wearing her turtleneck but no jacket. He clearly excites her. He says he’s going to miss coffee; she offers to share the recipe. “I suppose you like me better in uniform,” he says to her. “I haven’t decided whether I like you at all,” she replies. Kashyk asks Janeway if she’ll be welcome when she does get home, because of the Prime Directive. She replies she’ll sort it out later at the Board of Inquiry, and says she’s on a first name basis with many admirals. Kashyk tells a story about a child he had to condemn in a ship. He looks out at the swirls in the sky and tells her that they’ve never looked so beautiful… “Could be the company I’m keeping,” he says. They walk back to his quarters. He invites her in. She looks past him at his quarters; a million emotions cross her face as she considers the offer. She exchanges a glance with the security guard outside Kashyk’s quarters who has heard the entire exchange.
They try to cross a Devore detection grid with Kashyk’s help, but they are detected. Tom hails Janeway and tells her that the Devore ships are on their way. She and Chakotay look right at each other. She touches him and tells him to take the bridge, then calls for Kashyk. Kashyk tells her they have to talk. In his quarters, he tells her he’s going back to rejoin the warships; it’s the only way he can guarantee their safety. He says he can take command of the inspection teams and allow them to get through the wormhole, but she says no, “It’s too dangerous.” “Kathryn…” he says. She tells him she brought him on board on the condition that he would follow her orders. He says if he stays their best chance of escape will be lost. She says she was planning to ask him to stay after they got through the wormhole. “I wouldn’t mind having someone around who appreciates a bit of Tchaikovsky now and then.” He says he wouldn’t fit in on Voyager, either. She tells him his shuttle will be ready for launch within the hour. They both look hurt.
Kashyk assures Kathryn that the inspection will be quick. Tuvok tells Kashyk, “Live long and prosper.” Only Kathryn is with him in the shuttle bay. She tells him she’ll wait for him at the wormhole for as long as they can. “I may not be able to join you this time,” he says. “Try,” she replies. He kisses her, and then she kisses him back, long and deep. He takes her hand and kisses it twice before boarding his shuttle. She watches him board the shuttle. How much of their kiss is real, for either of them?
The inspection begins, and Janeway tells Chakotay that they follow protocol. Kashyk has Janeway report to her ready room. Prax and the other guard are there. Kashyk plays Tchaikovsky; he says it’s his favorite. “Mine, too,” she says. Kashyk asks Janeway why she entered this sector. “Exploring can sometimes be hard to resist, Inspector,” Janeway says. Kashyk dismisses Prax. Janeway tells Kashyk that she found the wormhole. He calls Prax back in and tells him he will find the telepaths in transporter suspension. Janeway appears to be genuinely hurt by Kashyk’s betrayal. She tells him he gave a masterful performance. He tells her he’s impressed by her selflessness and humanity. Kashyk has Janeway escorted back to the bridge under armed guard. Her bridge has been taken over by Devore. She sits in Chakotay’s chair while Kashyk sits in hers. She sits silently, watching Kashyk open, and then destroy the wormhole. In the cargo bay, Prax says he has isolated the biopatterns. Kashyk orders the ship to fire to open the wormhole, but it doesn’t work. “You created false readings,” he accuses Kathryn. “That is the theme for this evening,” she throws back at him. Prax reports that there are no telepaths, only cargo containers filled with vegetables. Janeway tells the computer to play Mahler’s 1st Symphony. Janeway has sent all the telepaths on 2 shuttles. They escape through the wormhole before Kashyk can get to them. Janeway sits silently during all of it. Prax says he’ll have Voyager confiscated, but Kashyk tells Prax he’s dismissed. He says this won’t look good on either of their records, and Kathryn looks at him, surprised. She leans over towards him, and he looks at her. “Well played, Captain. It seems I never did earn your trust,” he says. She tells him she had to take a few precautions. “Better than anyone,” he replies. “I never lied to you,” Kathryn admits softly. “My offer to take you with us was genuine, and it would still stand if you'd kept your part of the bargain.” “For what it's worth,” he admits with a small smile, “you made a tempting offer.” He stands. “The bridge is yours.” She watches him leave, and then once again sits back in her chair, alone.
When do they come up with their contingency plan? Although she forms a contingency plan, I do think she really is hurt by Kashyk’s betrayal. She doesn’t completely trust him but it’s like discovering that what she feared is true and she wishes it wasn’t. Is she surprised when Kashyk lets them go at the end?

Lodessa: A Fic Retrospective - Timehop for February 13th
One Year Ago Today ( Saturday, February 13th, 2016)
Fic Title: Stupidly Think You Had It Under Control
Fandom: Star Trek - Voyager
Rating: Explicit
Word Count: 3,428 words
Characters/Pairings: Janeway/Chakotay, Kashyk
Posted: February 13th, 2016
Summary: “Kashyk has thought that the Commander’s longing for Janeway has been evident on the bridge, but it is nothing compared to the way he is looking at her now. On some worlds that look is undoubtedly a binding marriage vow. On some worlds, a woman could probably be impregnated by that look alone.” Kashyk spies on Janeway and discovers a different kind of secret than he was expecting.
Author’s Notes: This is larely PWP but with a twist of perspective. The idea for this fic was one of my earlier ones in the fandom, a good excuse for smut and an outsider perspective on J/C. Kashyk is a snake and writing him was at once entertaining and nauseating in turns. His jealousy was so satisfying. His world view was disturbing. At the same time, it was a good exercise to try and account for not only third person limited where the POV character was not part of the sex but also for the fact that he is an outsider in the larger sense of being alien, physically and culturally. Plus... smut.

For the character headcanons: Kathryn Janeway. :)
Character headcanons
Send me the name of a character and I will tell you my:
1: sexuality headcanon- Straight ( for the most part but she is an incorrigible flirt. She’d flirt with anyone but when it comes to relationships, she is very picky. otherthan coffee and Starfleet (during academy, her studies) she rarely had time to pursue much of relationships) She has lot of chemistry with anyone and I’m sure she’d tasted the rainbow once in a while :) )
2: otp -obviously Janeway x Chakotay (I’m going down with this ship)
3: brotp - Kathryn and Tuvok , Kathryn and B’Elanna ( I really loved how these two were sciencing together in first season. In voyager, we had the first captain with scientific and engineering backgrounds and It is a loss that they didn’t explore much of it and the fact that KJ would’ve been a good friend to B.E)
4: notp - Kathryn x Kashyk , Kathryn x Micheal Sullivan (seriously?) , Kathryn x Seven ( despite the abundance of chemistry, I believe it is not that healthy for Seven to begin a relationship with Kathryn (but if this happens in AQ after seven has much experience about humanity and Chakotay is not there for sure then I think it won’t be that bad...)
5: first headcanon that pops into my head - oh god…uhh ... She and Chakotay danced in holodeck but this was far too intimate and she never danced with him again ( but they got back together in earth and She asked him to dance with her)
6: one way in which I relate to this character- Kathryn’s enthusiasm and love for science and (sadly) her guilt and depression.
7: thing that gives me second hand embarrassment about this character- fair Haven and Micheal Sullivan (oh god I totally hate it) and the total Equinox drama 8: cinnamon roll or problematic fave? sometimes she is a cinnamon role but mostly a problematic fave (I know ..I know.. I fall for badass ladies with questionable Morals )
thank you @rikerssexblouse ;) :) ;)

Ship Meme - finally doing this...
I was tagged by like 6 people and I don’t remember who other than @ariella884and @rikerssexblouse... if those are even right...*scratches head*
First Ship you ever read fic for: I read fic like, a million years ago but cannot for the life of me remember what (probably Mulder/Scully and Riker/Troi). But I’ll say Janeway/Chakotay starting in January 2017, after I finished Full Circle.
First Ship you ever wrote fic for: Janeway/Chakotay (though technically, it’s my OC and her dead lover or my OC/Chakotay, by just a few paragraphs, but I don’t really ship them together)
Ship you write the most now: Janeway/Chakotay
Ship you read the most now: Janeway/Chakotay (ya’ll see the trend here, right?) Though I’m trying to brush up on my Tom/B’Elanna and my rare-pairs.
Newest Ship: Well, as of this morning it’s Lorca / Admiral Cornwell (you see me rolling my eyes at her name, right, but yeah. They were doing it. And they should do it again).
Rare Ship you wanna read more of: OWEN PARIS AND JANEWAY (see my caps there @rikerssexblouse and @mia-cooper?) and also Mark/Kathryn.
Your taboo Ship: I don’t know what’s implied by “taboo” but I’ll say my guilty pleasure Janeway/Kashyk or Janeway/Ransom or Janeway/Ayala (cause he’s married and that’s bad, naughty Ayala). This follows on the @rawkfemme quote “Janeway x whoever can get her off” line of thinking.
They never met in canon Ship: I guess this would be Janeway/Lorca thanks to well. Me. And my accomplice.
Your unexpected ship: Paris/Kim, let the boys be happy. (before B’Elanna, of course)
The ship you always forget to give love to: Tom/B’Elanna. I’m sorry. I love them, i really really do. But I forget because they’re canon. And they have their happiness. I forget that there’s more to be done with them, luckily @mollybecameanengineer, @captacorn and @rikerssexblouse have shown me the error of my ways. I also always forget Riker/Troi though I love the snot out of them.
Ship your OC with a canon character (if applicable): My OC had an OC lover, who was a Doctor. In my head he’s very much like Julian Bashir. So I guess it’d have to be him.
A ship you’re embarrassed to ship: I don’t embarrass easily. But if someone ever notices me shipping Seven/Chakotay or Janeway/Seven, please come put me out of my misery? K?
Your most romantic Ship: Janeway/Chakotay and Mulder/Scully. For sure. I see them alike in many ways. They’re just sweet and loyal and so there for each other no matter what shitty circumstances. In J/C’s case though, there’s that horrible angst of literally NOT being able to be together. It kills me.
Your sexiest ship: Can I just list my sexiest guys? And then assume it’s whoever their with, ok? Chakotay, Ayala, Lorca, Riker. and then Janeway, B’Elanna, Troi. Mix and match. It’s strong, emotionally powerful people (plus Riker) vs. more strong, emotionally powerful people.
Your most tragic ship: My most tragic ship is Mark/Kathryn. I love those two. He should have had a real chance with her.
A ship you want more content for: Mark/Kathryn; Owen/Kathryn; Lorca/Cornwell (which WILL now be a thing)
Tag: I feel like everyone’s been tagged? But if not - tag yourself!
