I saw other people doing it for this month, so I thought I’d have some fun with new picrews to celebrate some of my favorite OCs.
Top left is someone who loves elves as much as she loves worgen, no matter what they have in their pants, Dairon Garrick. Who used this picrew.
Next to her is the half-undead, flirty, blood-addicted, and VERY pan Iona. Who used this picrew.
Bottom left is my DoS2 disaster lesbian, Saoirse. Who used this picrew.
And bottom right is my original bi OC, the aggressively bisexual Kallian Tabris. Who used this picrew.
#honorable mention to the pan Keeran Trevelyan. who is a dude and therefore extremely limited in his picrew options#and one of my oldest OCs. the lesbian Jane Shepard. Who I secretly plan on redesigning one day#when i feel like modding the shit out of mass effect again

17 for trevelyans or amells? i dont know which one would be crazier
omg thats so fun ty....this one got away from me a little. here's an orlesian undergraduate essay that mentions the trevelyans
---
When we look as far back as the 9th era, we have to remember that much of what we consider to be common knowledge is more speculation than anything else. Lady Mary Trevelyan, for example, was one of the most well-known figures in the South for the latter half of the century and yet we have little concrete evidence that she even existed prior to 9:41, with even less being known about the home she grew up in. While there are records of her family spanning several centuries, the waters begin to muddy in the 8th era with the birth of her paternal grandmother. Famously, Dr Thomas Alexan has posited the theory that there was some complicated traumatic event that led to the purging of so many records and the subsequent reclusive nature of the family: a child borne out of wedlock, an affair, a crime of passion. There is, as many have argued, no real evidence of this. Alexan's writings were accused by peers of being all theory and no evidence, "he claims to hear the dragon's roar but can't show me its scales or shit" (Milland, 14:76).
But what do we do when all we have is the dragon's roar? From salvaged records, we are able to determine that the Inquisitor was the youngest of at least four siblings. Her oldest known sister, Jane Trevelyan, was reportedly sent to the Starkhaven Circle as a teenager (c.9:14) though what became of her is unknown. It is likely she either perished or slipped through the cracks after the tower was destroyed in 9:31, given that there is no record of her ever arriving at Kirkwall's notorious Gallows.
We know a little more about Julien Trevelyan, her older brother, due to the Templar order's meticulous bookkeeping. He was stationed at the Ostwick Circle in 9:13 and stayed there without incident for several years before being sent to Kinloch Hold in Ferelden. Unusually, his reasons for being sent away were redacted in his official records; given that Ostwick rarely shied from its soldiers' crimes (setting it aside from several other Circles at the time) this is doubly strange. We can only speculate as to whether the redaction was due to his noble status or due to a particularly personal or terrible crime. Either way, all communication between him and his family ceased immediately after. Any records of him in Ferelden also disappear around the time of the Fifth Blight, though many of Kincloch Hold's Templars were lost around that time.
Rose Trevelyan, of course, has been widely speculated about. While some depictions of her (such as Lily Smith's sensationalised 15:02 romance novel The Thorn) are largely fictional, many are based on what we have gleaned from letters exchanged, strangely enough, by members of the Hawke-Amell family. Through Bethany Hawke's letter to her brother, (see: The Bird's Shadow: A Collection of Bethany Hawke's Writings 9:35 - 9:61, 'Something terrible happened yesterday...', p. 65), we know both the cause and date of Rose Trevelyan's death, something unusual for a Circle mage of her era, particularly a Circle mage from Kirkwall just prior to the uprising. Many historians are rightfully irritated by the mytholisation of Rose, making claims that it is "disrespectful to treat dead women's trauma as a romantic fantasy" (Clark, 15:91), and expressing worries that it "conflates fact with fiction in a way that pollutes the truth as understood by wider society" (Angel, 15:43). In my own reading of Smith's novel, however, I find that there is far more accuracy than she is given credit for. Her dedication to exploring 9th era Andrastrianism, for example, is commendable, especially compared to other notorious erotic historical romances, such as the works of George S. Flay or Steven Mire.
It is likely that even Lady Trevelyan knew little of these siblings. As far as we can tell, she never acknowledged them publicly - though, of course, her hardline beliefs on mages (including her apparent hand in Divine Victoria's ascension to the Sunburst Throne) may have given her reason to stay quiet. Interestingly, her relationship with her parents also appeared to be strained, with there being little recorded contact between them after the disbandment of the Inquisition. Given the family's secrecy, we can only guess what went on behind closed doors by pressing our ears up against them and listening for the roar.
[An excerpt from 'Historical accuracy, Lily Smith, and hearing the dragon's roar' - Maria Lapi, Orlais University, Undergraduate
Note from supervisor: Clark's issue with Smith's novel was probably more about the gratuitous nature of the sex scenes rather than the historical inaccuracies - have you read her analysis of sexuality and 9th era mages in Tethras' Tale of the Champion? Also, perhaps look further into redactions of Templar crimes at Ostwick to see if you can spot any patterns. We can discuss when I am back from the Entropy conference.]
#iceta#ask#my writing#IG? did i have a tag for that or not idr#omg this makes me sound crazy im sorry. i just find writing fake essays really really funny.#yeah orlesian undergrad arguing that their fave shitty romance book is good actually. as is their right.

Hot Vintage Stage Actress Round 3
Meng Xiaodong: Catch and Release Cao Cao (捉放曹); Empty City Strategy (空城计); Zhulian Village (珠帘寨)
Hilda Trevelyan: Wendy in Peter Pan (1904 West End); Maggie Wylie in What Every Woman Knows (1908 West End); Jane Thing/Cinderella in A Kiss for Cinderella (1916 West End)
Propaganda under the cut.
Meng Xiaodong:
Meng Xiaodong was a Chinese opera performer who did male roles as a woman. The characters she played were older gentleman (老生), refined scholars like famed strategist Zhuge Liang. I was so amazed to learn about her because I didn’t know women could play male roles in Peking opera. I love her gracefulness both in and out of costume.
In costume as General Yang Ye (left) and Zhuge Liang (right)
Later in life, we stan an animal lover
Hilda Trevelyan:
The original Wendy in Peter Pan! She played the role off and on for seven seasons and became one of J.M. Barrie's muses.

Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers (if you’d like). Spread the self-love ♥️
Ohhh thank you for asking! 🥰
In no particular order (I love all my children):
Kiss Me Moonstruck
Explicit | Hawke x Trevelyan | WC 50k+ (WIP) | Dragon Age 2 | Fluff and Smut | Fish out of Water
This Satinalia romantic comedy is set during Dragon Age 2, Act 2. Old friends Leandra Hawke and Alsatia Trevelyan have conspired to fix up their incorrigible children Garrett and Rose. 100% inspired by the madcap romantic comedies of my youth in the 90s and writers like Stella Gibbons and P.G. Wodehouse smashed up with a little Jane Austen, this fic is perhaps most representative of my life's work as a writer 😂 Shamelessly romantic, funny, a little bit ridiculous and underpinned by the madness and angst that is Dragon Age 2/ Kirkwall. I'm really super proud of this one.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Thirst
Mature, WC 6450, Angst and Whump | Cullen POV
This is a big brained companion fic to my DA:I long fic In the Shattering of Things in Cullen's POV (though it pretty much stands on its own). He's on the outs with his love interest Rose Trevelyan, he's struggling to feel like he belongs in the position of Commander and there are a bunch of extra delicious flashbacks to Dragon Age 2 featuring Samson and Meredith. Dragon Age 2 Cullen has always fascinated me because you really only get to see his growth if you make certain choices and pay close attention. This fic is my exploration of his growth, particularly his relationship to The Order as the situation in Kirkwall deteriorates and how that relates to his current predicament in Inquisition. I am also extremely proud of this fic! (I will note that it is *not* a deep exploration of his relationship to mages, so please don't go in expecting that).
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Something Wicked This Way Comes
Mature, WC 7,380, Angst & Action, Multiple POV
Yet another companion fic to my DA:I long fic In the Shattering of Things but I think it would be an interesting read without the greater context. The premise is that Inquisitor Rose Trevelyan has disappeared in the midst of the Peace Talks Gala at the Winter Palace and follows the POVs of Cullen, Garrett Hawke, Josephine, Vivienne and Orlesian Bard Fidencio Frye (my friend @monocytogenes's OC) as they learn she's missing and try to find her. This is a very non-canonical take on WEWH. It was an incredible challenge to write and i think I did a bang up job capturing the tension and stakes.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Boy Who Talked too Much
Explicit, WC 2373, Fluff Smut, Alistair POV
This is one of my older fics, born of a writing prompt for Dragon Age Drunk Writing Circle. Mostly I was having a wonderful time getting into Alistair's head as he experiences a bit of a sexual awakening with a bold, but also inexperienced Elissa Cousland. In addition to feeling that I captured Alistair really well, I also think I nailed the kind of fumbly, youthful awkwardness that is mutual first times. It's a bit smutty but it's also just really sweet and funny.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In the Shattering of Things,
Explicit | Cullen x Trevelyan | Hawke x Trevelyan | WC: 450K + (WIP) | DA:I | Epic | Multiship | Slow burn | Fast burn | Complications While Saving the World
I would be remiss if I did not recommend my Inquisition long fic (which I'm still working on-- currently approaching Here Lies the Abyss). It's also a little bit complicated because my writing talent has come *a long way* since I began the fic in January '23. It basically begs the question: what if the Inquisitor is in over her head and what's it like trying to navigate falling in (and out of) love when the world is falling apart. It's got it all: romance, humor, heartbreak, ridiculously high stakes, a delicious but grown-up love triangle and a protagonist you can root for that is imperfect but doing her bloody best. When it's all done, this fic will probably be my greatest achievement and I will lie on the floor crying.

Fanfic Writer Questions
Tagged by @dreadfutures! Tagging @effelants and @kiastirling-fanfic.
1. How many works do you have on AO3? 47
2. What's your total AO3 word count? 739,512
3. What fandoms do you write for? Resident Evil/Biohazard, Dragon Age, Mass Effect
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos? Recovery, a post-RE2 Remake Leon/Claire smut (340) The Rise, part 1 of my DAI-timeline series that starts with the prologue and ends with the arrival at Skyhold (140) Bracing, a 350-word drabble for Dorian/Bull (71) A Terrible Bore (350-word Cullen/Theresa drabble) and An Evening In (one-shot Cullen/Theresa fluff) are tied for fourth (64) Fiercely Perish, which is essentially Die Hard in Thedas, with Bull as John McClain (56)
5. Do you respond to comments? Yes! I try to respond to everyone and try not to be overwhelming in my gratitude lol. I so rarely get comments that each one feels like Christmas Morning to me and I want to cherish it forever.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? The Black City - the second part of my post-Trespasser Cullen/Theresa series, which ends with their relationship in tatters and them coming to the conclusion that the only way they can heal from their grief is apart. One of the hardest things I've ever written. T_T
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Swept Away - my super indulgent Josephine/Isabela adventure romance. I wrote it as a combination of Pirates of the Caribbean meets Jane Austen. I adore them!
8. Do you get hate on fics? No, never! I've been very lucky.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Yup! I've written one-shots as well as scenes incorporated into longer stories. It's almost never PWP though - I have tried and literally can't. For some reason it always ends up at least partly a character study lmao. And because it's me, there's also usually some angst worming its way in there. I am hopeless. ^_^;
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written? Nope. The closest I've ever come was D&DA Effect, which was me just taking the idea of "what if the plot of DA was actually just the crew of the Normandy playing D&D?" and cranking out a short dialogue-only scene. It reads like a transcript lol. It was definitely fun, but overall I don't have much interest in crossovers.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not to my knowledge.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? I've had a couple people ask if they can translate one or two of my fics, and I've always granted permission. If they ever completed the translations, I was never tagged in them.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? A couple times, yes. I've participated in a couple round robins with my fellow server members, and did a pinch hit on an exchange event with another writer.
14. What's your all time favorite ship? Oh gosh I have so many.... My favorite to write for is definitely Cullen/Theresa, Theresa being my OC Trevelyan Inquisitor.
15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? Look. I really, REALLY wanna finish my Reprises & Reprisals series. I promise!!! I'm about to pick it back up in fact. But my worry is that once the fourth game comes out I may lose interest in writing for Inquisition for a while. And who knows when it'll come back. So I'm hoping to at least finish MOST of book two, which will at least get me to the end of the base game and the big revelation I've been sitting on for literal YEARS.
16. What are your writing strengths? Character and dialogue, and I've also been told that I write action well
17. What are your writing weaknesses? Repetition. Descriptive prose and scene blocking. Every time I have to describe what a character is physically doing in a scene, I immediately forget how to exist in a body or how to move one lol.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? If you are fluent enough to write in that language, write it out. Or if not, at least run it by someone who is. The more often languages other than English are included in stories shown to a primarily English-speaking readership, the less "other" it will become. Otherwise, it's best just to write it in English (WITHOUT writing the accent) and describe what language it's being spoken in. Conlangs and ciphers are definitely trickier, and I try my best not to lean too heavily on them, just because I don't feel I'm well enough versed in linguistics to really parse the nuances of such use without accidentally falling into unfortunate implications or stereotypes.
19. First fandom you wrote for? Mass Effect
20. Favorite fic you've written? As much as I love my Cullen/Theresa stories, I have a deep fondness and love for Swept Away. I poured a lot of time and effort into its writing, and it remains, in my opinion, one of my best-paced, best-written, and most engaging stories.

I was going through some old screenshots, and found the one surviving screenshot I have of the only other warden I put any development or serious thought into.
Flynn Amell (named because I tried to make him look as much like Flynn/Eugene from Tangled as possible)
In contrast to my main warden, who was an angry, prickly, stubborn elf with a massive chip on her shoulder, Flynn was a pretty laid back guy. A jokester who coped with his situation as a mage with good humor (and a lot of denial/deflection). Like Alistair, he was prone to making VERY bad jokes in an attempt to deal with his own fears and issues.
He fell HARD for Morrigan, although that was almost a given considering she joined the party specifically to seduce a warden and use them in her ritual. However, the longer Morrigan played her games, the more she realized her feelings were genuine, too.
The major headcanon I have for Flynn is that the dark ritual was never supposed to save his life. A great deal of Morrigan's internal conflict with her feelings was knowing that her ultimate goal would still end with Flynn dying. But by the end, she realized that even if she could not keep him, she could honor his sacrifice by raising his child with love and compassion, while also keeping the soul of an old god safe within their baby. She is much more fiercely protective of Kieran in this world state than my main canon because of this.
#this world state also had Alexander Hawke. a rogue who romanced both Isabela and Merrill#unlike my main canon Sarah Hawke. Alexander finds a bittersweet happy ending with those two even after losing everything else he cares abou#and Jane Trevelyan. Basically my Shepard transferred into Dragon Age. A sword and shield warrior to match her Mass Effect soldier class#also like in mass effect this jane falls in love with a nerdy workaholic lady with very wealthy family connections#Josephine's romance is one of my favorites in the series
