Literally the only way they could get me excited for this after what they did to Persuasion is to cast Luke Newton.

One thing I've been contemplating and I think is a big difficulty for a modernization of Persuasion, is how do you trap Anne? Because the way that women in the gentry were basically trapped at home until they married is very hard to translate to today. The narrator explicitly points out that Anne doesn't recover from Wentworth because she's so isolated and has no ability to meet new people. Modern Anne can get out of dodge; Modern Anne can get a job and an education.
A solution that occurred to me was to give Anne a grandparent with Alzheimer's who needs nearly 24/7 care. Sir Walter, with the spending priorities that he has, thinks it's proper for Anne to care for them even though they could afford a nurse. Anne is so worried that there will be gaps in care if she leaves that she commits to staying. Perhaps this grandparent dies around Wentworth's return and Anne is free but is anticipating trouble rejoining the workforce after so many years away so she's still living at home.
It would certainly fit with the way Anne has been doing unvalued labour for her family this whole time.

“Ah.” Roy pushes a scarred hand through his slicked-back hair, which had already begun to free itself from its formal style, but is now mussed beyond hope. He catches her stare, smirking devilishly. “What endearments am I allowed?”
“Let me think.” She drains the wine glass, the spicy-sweet taste washing over her tongue. His dark eyes track her every movement. “‘Riza’ for everyday. ‘My Lady’ for formal events. And -” She taps her chin in mock contemplation. “‘Empress Divine’ - but only on very special occasions.”
Roy chuckles, the sound rolling low in his chest. “And what shall I call you when I'm mad?” He runs a palm along the firm arch of her calf muscle. “Mrs. Mustang?”

Doing a PRIDE AND PREJUDICE set soon and I have a (bad) habit of finding myself steered far too myopically by costumes when doing designs for an era that I haven't studied or researched much (like Regency England)... trying to overcompensate for a lack of comfortable familiarity by leaning hard on the research. But when I do that, it often leads to homogenous and lackluster designs. SO, instead, I'm starting with no-clothes silhouettes, and it'll be easier that way to find or apply costumes whose shapes mirror that already considered. Because you have three sets of relatives here, or even four, kind of, I'm trying to tie the different family groupings together: The Bennet girls, Darcy and his relatives, the Bingley siblings, and Papa Bennet and cousin Collins. I will aim to make Mr. Wickham look less like a Dragonball character in subsequent drafts.

I bet Jason Todd is a Mrs Bennet apologist and a Mr Bennet hater. He’s in jane Austen fan groups starting arguments over mr Bennet not getting his daughters proper educations and only helping his family when it cost him nothing or was already too late.
I bet he wishes there was some rescue for Lydia even from her own mistakes, and hates that all the good guys can come up with is basically selling her off to Wickham and washing their hands of her.
His favourite scene in the whole book isn’t the proposal or even the dance at Netherfield, it’s Lizzie standing up to Lady Catherine de Bourgh when she refuses to swear off Darcy even though she has no reason to think he even wants her still.

A friend shared a Chinese Jane Austen fan fiction novel with me where a Chinese princess wakes up as Mary Bennet and most of the novel so far has been devoted to mocking English cooking and it's hilarious:
For someone from Daxia, a culture with thousands of years of culinary history, where dishes are crafted with meticulous care and refinement, this kind of food was nothing short of horrifying—an unbearable assault on both taste and smell!
This indicated the overall level of culinary expertise here was quite lacking; aside from frying and roasting, there seemed to be no other methods of cooking.
Yesterday’s chicken wings had been overcooked and tough as firewood, and they hadn’t been marinated beforehand, so they lacked flavor. Today’s salad was merely tossed with some oil, nothing more than the pure essence of the ingredients, which had nothing to do with cooking skill. It seemed the English were not poor cooks; rather, their palates were far too easy to please.
Oh no! Now British embroidery is under attack:
Mary was slightly taken aback. She had merely made a few simple alterations to the dress, spending no more than half a day on it. The embroidery she used was basic, with the simplest patterns and stitches, yet to the Bennet sisters, it was breathtaking. Could the standard of embroidery here really be as crude as their cooking skills? Mary felt she had uncovered the truth.
I'm so amused! I am pretty sure Princess Mary will end up with Darcy, but who knows!
It's only translated up to Ch 9, then you can read the raws in Google translate here.
