The GOP insurrection continues today.
Of course if the architects of the insurrection in 2021 were fully brought to justice we might not be here.

-- Japanese American leaders criticize Trump for Jan. 6 comparison. --
Tumblr media
Trump represents the politics of grievance. Not just white grievance at the loss of privilege, but the whole lot of arsonists, nihilists, saboteurs, and narcissists - those with bitterness, envy, selfishness, and greed. You can see this strain of self-pity in how Trump and his followers frame their actions and the consequences thereof.
Japanese-Americans, loyal and with no reason but race to suspect them as a fifth column, were rounded up transported to what were by definition concentration camps. This was a crime against humanity, overshadowed only because of the other atrocities that defined the Second World War. American citizens were forced by the government to give up their homes, lives, relationships, and dignity, solely on account of ethnic background. People died as a result of the primitive conditions of the camps. This is one of the most shameful episodes of American history, a history that is no stranger to shame.
The January 6 insurrectionists committed a crime with the express purpose of disrupting the democratic process and peaceful transition of power. They have been afforded all due process in courts of law and have been deemed guilty of serious offenses. They are not a persecuted, displaced minority; they are a fascist mob that attempted a Putsch and lost. People died as a direct result of their actions. My only regret in their treatment is that Capitol Police did not open up with live fire on the lot of them. Yet they, in their revisionist history, want to see themselves as innocent victims. Rather than take responsibility for what they did and for whom they did it, they blame those of us holding them to account. In so doing, they insult the memory of those who lived through Japanese internment, they insult the country, and they are an insult to themselves. Trump and his followers have forfeited all self-respect in the name of their unearned sense of grievance. Trump is not subject to a witch hunt because he's being prosecuted for stealing top-secret documents, pressuring state officials to commit election fraud, or falsifying business documents in furtherance to his political campaign. MAGAts are not being oppressed because they are going to jail for committing crimes. They should all grow up.

Republicans Don’t Want to Talk About Jan. 6. Trump Can’t Help Himself.
Donald J. Trump has made his revisionist account of the Capitol attack the foundation of this campaign, even when there is little political advantage.
