I FEEL LIKE THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT MOMENT OF MY LIFE.
I work as a receptionist at the Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders where I live.
On Halloween, we’re having an office party, and I decided to dress up as Pam Beesly from The Office. We’re both receptionists, we both work with watercolor, and we wear almost the same styles to work.
I usually stay in my office to answer phones and emails, but my boss has given me a special task for the day of our Halloween party.
I get to stand outside the screening rooms and HAND OUT CANDY TO THE CHILDREN WHO COME IN FOR AUTISM SCREENINGS.
How cute is that?! I feel like this will be the sweetest moment of my entire life.
It’s also totally something Pam would do! I remember that episode where all the office workers took their kids to work and Pam put out extra candy on her desk to get the kids to come and talk to her, and I feel like I’m getting that full circle moment here.
…..
I also have to save all the black jelly beans for Dwight.

Code Yellow
Book: Open Heart, Book 2 Pairing: Dr. Ethan Ramsey x F!MC (Dr. Sawyer Brooks) Rating: General Warning: None Category: Fluff Word count: 1K Summary: Recovering in the hospital, Sawyer is having trouble sleeping. A/N: I saw a scene on TV where the female MC spoons her male LI, and ever since I just needed for Sawyer to spoon Ethan.🥰
It had been three days since the poison attack and just as many days since Sawyer last slept. And while there was medication that might help, Ethan preferred to exercise extreme caution, not wanting to risk any adverse reactions with an untested vaccine.
“Jan, would it be okay if I took a few laps around the floor?” Sawyer asked the night nurse who changed her I.V. bag.
“Sure, hon. Let me help you with another gown to cover your backside.”
“But what if I wanted to enjoy the breeze like Mrs. Martinez?” joked Sawyer.
“Bless her heart. She was quite the character,” Jan reminisced as she finished tying the second gown. “Okay, kiddo. You’re all set.”
Sawyer was halfway through her second lap when she approached a nurses’ station on the opposite side of the floor. She stopped before rounding the corner when she overheard someone mention Dr. Ramsey.
“Hey guys, the Chief has taken over Ramsey’s cases. All but one, that is…” the supervising nurse announced.
“Brooks?” asked Nurse Claire.
“Yep.”
“God, I can’t even imagine,” Claire shook the terrifying thoughts from her head.
“Sarah mentioned that Dr. Ramsey comes by and reviews her chart several times a night,” added Nurse Anna.
“I heard he hasn’t left the hospital since it happened. That he’s been sleeping in his office,” Claire said.
Anna confirmed. “I’m pretty sure that’s true. Last night, I heard Jan instruct an orderly to deliver a cot to his office.”
Ethan stayed with Sawyer for a couple of hours each night after visiting hours, but she assumed he always went home afterward. Wanting to know if the rumors were true, Sawyer backtracked toward the physicians’ offices.
A few minutes later, she knocked lightly on Ethan’s office door. When no one answered, she took a chance and gently pushed down on the handle, cracking the door open a smidge.
The office was dark, save for the dim light from the reading lamp on his desk. Ethan's white coat was draped over the back of his desk chair, and his dress clothes were hung behind it, with the hanger hooked on the ledge of the bookshelf. A gym bag was perched on a lounge chair, with a t-shirt carelessly draped over it.
Hearing a murmur inside, Sawyer pushed the door open just enough to carefully squeeze through with her I.V. stand.
She tracked the gentle snoring to Ethan, who was fast asleep on a fold-out bed next to the floor-to-ceiling window. Lying on his side, his back was to the door. He was clad only in gym shorts, and the hospital-issued blanket appeared to have fallen to the floor.
Sawyer cautiously tiptoed to the foot of the cot and took a moment to watch him sleep. With his chest's steady rise and fall, tears formed in her eyes as she realized he was there for her. Since the day she almost died, the only moments of calm she felt were when he was near. She took selfish comfort in knowing that if he was sleeping at the hospital every night, he was never too far away.
“Uhn…Sss…No...Stay with me…,” Ethan mumbled in his sleep, his body tense and the grip on his pillow tight.
Sawyer recognized that Ethan was having a bad dream. She picked up the blanket from the floor to comfort him and draped it over him. Then, maneuvering around her I.V., she joined him on the flimsy twin-sized mattress, spooning him from behind.
She slowly slid her arm under his, resting her hand over his pounding heart. Ethan stirred and covered her hand with his own. After placing soft, barely-there kisses on his shoulder blade, Sawyer rested the side of her face against the warm skin of his naked back.
Ethan, still half-asleep, untangled himself and slowly rolled over to face her.
“Hi,” Sawyer breathed, running her fingers through his tousled hair.
“Hi,” his voice laced with sleep. “How long have you been here?”
“Not long. Just a couple minutes.”
“You should be resting in your bed,” Ethan reproached.
“So should you,” Sawyer quickly countered.
His fingers grazed her cheek as he pushed a few strands of hair behind her ear. “I’m exactly where I need to be.”
For a moment, they locked eyes, silently appreciating each other. Sawyer traced the lines of his muscular torso while Ethan raked his fingers through her silky blonde waves.
“Can I lay here with you for a few more minutes?” she interrupted the quietness.
Pressing a light kiss to her forehead, he snuggled her tight against his body. “Just a few more.”
Ethan's worries vanished with her safe and secure in his arms. Finally feeling unburdened, his eyelids grew heavy, and sleep pulled him away once more. As her cheek melted into his bare chest, the skin-to-skin contact also lulled Sawyer to sleep. It was the first time in days that she had closed her eyes and not seen ghosts.
A couple hours later, the high-pitched cry from Ethan’s pager startled them awake. But before reaching for it, he squeezed the woman in his arms and kissed her temple. Rolling to his back, he blindly dragged his hand along the carpeted floor until he could palm the device.
“Shit!” he exclaimed, reading the message.
“What’s wrong?”
“They just called a ‘Code Yellow.’”
“What’s that one again?”
“In this case, it's when a high-risk patient is missing,” he sighed, running his hand over his face.
“That’s not good. Who’s the patient?”
“YOU! You are the patient, Sawyer.”
“Oh no,” the realization dawned on her, “Jan is going to kill me.”
“We must have dozed off.”
“Is it awful to say sorry, not sorry? Because that has been the first time I’ve slept since…" she swallowed, "since you were lying next to me in a plastic suit.”
With a suddenly tender and sympathetic look in his eye, Ethan caressed her cheek. “I know, and I’m glad. I slept better, too.” Placing a chaste kiss on her lips, “But come on, I need to get you back to your room.”

Incredible Milestone!
After 9 madness-flavoured treato dumpings, we're still here with the 10th, going strong. The debauchery never stops.

I don’t know the sainz lore pls share the sainz lore
i keep getting asked about this, so here's ONE PIECE of sainz lore:
In 1995, Antonio Sainz Rebollo (Carlos' paternal grandfather) was put on trial for the death a man named Samuel Chiabuto, who attempted to steal his wife's purse. During the confrontation, a bullet fragment from a shot fired by Sainz ricocheted and hit Chiabuto, fatally wounding him.
Antonio was ultimately sentenced to six months and one day in prison for his role Samuel's death, with the primary question during the trial being whether or not his actions were in legitimate self-defense, or instead represented "reckless imprudence resulting in death." The prosecutor argued that "defending a purse could not be equated with defending a life," emphasizing the severity of the outcome.
The case remains relatively significant in legal discussions concerning self-defense and use of force in regard to human life.
(quotes from articles on the incident below—please note that the full publications are paywalled and that these are automated translations from the original Spanish text)
The prosecutor in the 'Sainz case' says that the theft of a purse cannot be compared to a life by Elsa Fernández-Santosel for EL PAÍS Madrid (June 1995)
Self-defense or reckless recklessness resulting in death? The trial against the businessman and consul general of Bolivia Antonio Sainz Rebollo, father of the former world champion Carlos Sainz, was heard yesterday for sentencing. Forensic evidence confirmed the indications: that Samuel Chiabuto, a 27-year-old Nigerian who tried to steal Sainz's wife's purse, was killed by the ricocheted bullet fragment. According to the prosecutor, there can be no talk of self-defense when what is on the table is a purse versus a life. Sainz repeated yesterday that that night has marked his life. "I only defended my wife. When I was little, I was taught that women are sacred," he added.
Six months for Carlos Sainz's father due to the death of a shooter by Begoña Aguirre for EL PAÍS Madrid (July 1995)
Businessman and honorary consul of Bolivia, Antonio Sain Rebollo, 69, father of former world champion Carlos Sainz, has been sentenced to six months and one day in prison for the death of 27-year-old Nigerian immigrant Samuel Chiabuto. Chiabuto was shot dead by him after snatching his wife's purse. The head of the 26th Criminal Court, Eva Isabel Gallardo Martín, considers Sainz guilty of a crime of reckless recklessness resulting in death. The popular action, exercised by Sos Racismo and the Association for Human Rights, requested a sentence of four years and two months. The prosecutor asked for a one-year sentence.
Antonio Sainz was carrying a gun because of a death threat from a mafia by Jan Martinez Ahrens for EL PAÍS Madrid (December 1995)
The acquittal of Antonio Sainz Rebollo, 69, consul of Bolivia and father of two-time world rally champion Carlos Sainz, yesterday unleashed the "indignation" of SOS Racismo, personified as an accusation in the process. This association described as "resounding contempt for life" the decision of the Madrid Court to revoke the sentence that condemned Sainz for the death, on February 5, 1994, of a Nigerian shooter after a shot that ricocheted off a terrace. That night, Sainz was carrying the gun because of the death threats made against him by a mafia of counterfeiters whom he had denounced.

Until about 160 years ago Black American labor was used to benefit the few, especially a small group of privileged white landowners. Today, we are still being used. Progressive academics, activists, and political leaders are constantly exploiting Black Americans as living, breathing excuses for policies that benefit progressives and their constituents but fail Black people.
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has set his sights on eliminating high-achieving magnet schools in the name of equity. Currently, academically gifted students from low socioeconomic backgrounds are able to compete for entrance into high-achieving schools. One need not guess why some Black parents welcome this opportunity for their children. After all, only 17% of Black students are proficient in reading and even fewer (7%) demonstrate proficiency in math. Moreover, in 2022, fewer than 10% of Black third-grade students and just under 11% of low-income third-grade students could read at grade level. These dismal figures entail that a great many talented Black students in Chicago must suffer through classes geared not to them but to their illiterate and innumerate peers. Magnet schools offer these talented students a way out. One would think that policy makers committed to providing access to quality education for all students, not just the ones whose parents were able to send them to private schools, would increase the number of high-achieving schools, rather than eliminate them.
So, why would Mayor Johnson want to eliminate one of the few opportunities for gifted but economically disadvantaged students to access quality education? Well, according to Chicago Public Schools Board CEO, Pedro Martinez, allowing gifted students access to quality education causes “stratification and inequity in Chicago Public Schools.” One has to wonder whether this excuse (as incoherent as it is) is sincere or whether it reflects instead a cynical push to discard selective schools that have proven to be top-tier nationally because these schools compete directly with the union-led public school system.
In Portland, Oregon education leaders are planning to roll out a system of equitable grading that calls for teachers to consider “non-academic factors” when grading student work. Portland Public School Chief Academic Officer Kimberlee Armstrong, a supporter of the policy, argues that in order to address “biases” educators must, wait for it, engage in bias themselves, by “considering the diverse backgrounds and needs of students.” Just how does considering background rather than correct answers and knowledge acquisition reduce bias?
Oregon’s student literacy rates are slightly better than Chicago’s but still fewer than half of students read at grade level, with Black student literacy hovering around 26%. Yet rather than provide students with the necessary resources to achieve basic literacy, Oregon policymakers are simply eliminating any method of measuring student achievement.
We must ask ourselves, who gets lost in educational politicking? Students who desire a quality education are being sacrificed at the altar of progressive policies that do them more harm than good. When I was in the third grade my teacher suggested I be tested for the Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) program. I was attending an under-resourced, high-poverty school where the majority of students qualified for the free-lunch program, including me. My GATE score allowed me access to all of the resources that I would otherwise have missed because my socioeconomic circumstance did not allow for tutors or extracurricular activities, let alone private school tuition. Fast-forward a few decades and instead of providing support for students who find themselves in a situation similar to mine, policy makers are relegating them to mediocrity.
Who benefits from policies that disenfranchise the most vulnerable students? Many organizations that claim to work to improve student achievement by using equity-based practices have sprouted up over recent years. They offer services to school districts, providing teacher training and curricular materials with a stated goal not of teaching students the knowledge and skills they need to succeed but of “building social justice starting in the classroom.” These organizations are very successful in using our public schools to build their client base and sell their obviously political goals of equity and social justice. When it comes to improving student achievement, however, their results are dismal. Policies that eliminate access to quality education, lower standards and reframe what knowledge is will not help Black students, it will harm them. Politicizing education by lowering expectations is a racist endeavor that denies Black Americans the credit they rightly deserve for overcoming obstacles and reaching the highest levels of success. It’s the bigotry of low expectations.

This is what "equity" does. In order to force everybody to have equal outcomes, it has to eliminate the ability for people to overachieve or exceed others. Because that would make people jealous and would be "unfair." It can't make everybody an Elon Musk, but it can make everybody a Joe Schlub. And so "equity" always results in the lowest of the lowest common denominators. When you inevitably use force to ensure that happens, that's how you get Russia and China.
The people activists who are putting in these policies are the exact same people who put in the policies that caused this illiteracy and innumeracy in the first place.
