i saw a post somewhere speculating on whether or not hamilton would have been more receptive to george washington's friendship as an aide de camp if his real father, james hamilton, had died at that point. and the more i think about it the more likely i think it is.
would hamilton still have had issues? undoubtedly. i don't think he would've ever reached lafayette levels of adoration and easiness just on account of his personality, and i don't think washington would've wanted an aide doing the work hamilton did with the apparently helpful advice he gave, to be worshippy towards him to that level either. but i'm being unfair to lafayette; i need to know how he worked with washington on a professional level, and i haven't done research on that yet.
but i do think the fact that he wasn't truly an orphan - that his actual father had just fucked off somewhere but was very much alive, would have added another layer to that good childhood traumatic angst. because he's not only an impoverished young man who has big dreams in a new country with no strong connections or standing. he's got something to prove to his old man. and as we know, hamilton never ever got over his lack of family. he was practically a doormat for his scottish relations who hit him up when he was influential for a favor. he continued to ask his father to come join him, and sent him money. the man could've resented his father completely (and probably did to some level) but he never let go.
knowing that, if his commander in chief who's surprisingly hot-heated and grumpy extended affection and sometimes seems to treat you paternally (?), would he embrace that? hell no. his fanon catchphrases "you're not my dad", "don't call me son", etc. are literally true.
but maybe if james hamilton was dead, and had been dead for a good while - maybe then he would've leaned into that friendship more, even if his trust issues towards authority figures continued. not to mention how much simpler his issues would've been if his dad had just died instead of abandoned him.
all this to say fuck you james hamilton. your son could've been better off if you had just died, actually.

thinking about how difficult it must have been for Rachel Fawcette [Hamilton] to leave her firstborn behind in order to safely remove herself from Lavien's house. how much it must have eaten her up inside and how there was nothing she could do because her husband owned her and he owned their son and he owned everything that was hers and if she stayed, there's no telling what could have happened to her. And she lost her firstborn son over it, fuck the rest of everything she lost and how people treated her, she had no claims to her son who clearly grew up to resent her for what she, if we think critically for a moment and look at the context and the subtext and hey, let's face it, the TEXT, likely had to do. how women were constantly pitted in the most volatile of situations in those days and how she did the difficult thing and saved herself.
but yeah sure let's reduce her to Whore because that is so much more impactful through a modern lens, like sure let's give her disgusting husband, and every other fucking man throughout history, the glory of successfully making the women they hurt out to be cheating whores. let's tell her son's story by calling his mother a whore every other fuckin song. let's act like "son of a whore" at the end of all things is more of an insult to him than it is to his mother, the so-called whore who clearly had it so bad at Lavien's that she fucking left. do we not realize that by reducing her to that, we let Johann Michael Lavien fucking WIN? i'm sick. so fucking sick to my stomach I hate it here

Hey, there! So who knew me watching a silly little 2 hour long musical would lead to me having a silly goofy little blog about it and being really invested in and researching the crap out of the Founding Fathers of a country which I'm not even a citizen of? Anyway, I just wanted to ask if you have any info on Ham's mom and dad, since I can't find much about them on Google and can't buy any books. If you've already been asked this before then sorry, I'll just go look for it
1) I KNOW RIGHT i have a little bit more of an excuse since im an American but this really is a rabbit hole
2) y’all have got to stop apologizing to me for shit i LOVE ALL OF YOU AND YOU HAVE NOTHING TO APOLOGIZE FOR, especially not asking something ive already answered, chances are i haven’t, and there are even better chances that i’ll answer it again or just give you the link to where ive already answered it
and yes i do have information on them! i have information on a lot of people, which is why my dear and beloved son richie once asked me for a bunch of information that i made posts on and eventually assembled into a google doc! which is here! this has information on rachel faucette and james hamilton, as well as james hamilton jr., hamilton’s children, and his wife as well as a bunch of others! i figured id just give you the link in case you need anything else and also bc this has all the information i personally have about them, and i wouldn’t want to leave anything out
hope this helps! and thank you for the ask, they are ALWAYS APPRECIATED AND DONT FORGET THAT

Have you come across any research or evidence suggesting that James Hamilton is not Hamiltons father?
Hey, Anon!
There’s no evidence for this. Just a bunch of theories. Namely that Alexander Hamilton and his childhood friend, Edward Stevens, looked a lot alike according to contemporary accounts (although we don’t have a portrait of Stevens so *shrug*) and therefore it’s theorized they could be half-siblings, but there’s no actual evidence for this either.
