My Thoughts

Another anthology, and another really good time!

After reading the 5th volume of the Heart2Heart anthologies, I really meant to go back and start at the beginning. But somehow I found myself with the newest volume instead.

I really liked that the theme was so random, and that the questions were so broad and unique! Each story was so captivating, I had to take a pause in between to truly process them all on their own.

Just like with volume 5, there were definitely some stories that I liked more than others. Definitely some authors that I felt a bit more of a connection with than others. But I can truly say that there wasn’t one single story I disliked at all. I walked away with a few more authors to check out at a later date, as well!

Sometimes, all we need are really good, happy endings, and fuzzy feelings. This anthology definitely offers that in spades. I cannot wait to explore more of these authors, and the earlier editions of these anthologies.

The fated day came and Clarice had already prepped everything and briefed her boss. It hurt, having to see such an energetic man in so much pain. He had so much faith in her, Clarice was sure he was about to hand everything over to her right then and there. Hearing her desk phone beep, she answered quickly, rolling her eyes when she noticed the giddy tone in her secretary's voice. Rising to her feet, Clarice took the folders in her hands and exited her office.

"James! How nice of you to show up on time.'' Clarice said, outstretching her hand for a hand shake. "Can we get you something? I can have my assistant bring it to the meeting room." She said. Ever the gracious host. "Until then, welcome to Decker Corp! Mr. Decker sends his regards and he will join us once he is able to.'' Clarice spoke, each line carefully rehearsed. She was having a field day with this.

It was her own little way of rubbing it in his face. Clarice had worked her ass off in this corporation to get where she is, each challenge having been more difficult with the last. Earning Mr. Decker's trust was the half of it. Once she had that, Clarice was ready to raise hell. "Would you care for a tour?"

"C'mon now Clarice, we both know life isn't fair." the brunette mused with a slight smirk before the corners of his lips lifted a bit higher. "But, I suppose I can accommodate." he allowed, enjoying as they recaptured some of the back and forth that had drawn him to her in the first place.

Jimmy nodded, taking her hand and giving it a firm shake, resisting the urge to simply pull her into him, offer some half-assed apology and kiss her dizzy. But no, he knew that wouldn't fix anything. If anything it would only make things worse, so he pushed the thought away as quickly as it had come, instead, only nodding when she said she'd see him soon.

He wasn't expecting her to stop at the door, and his brows raised slightly when she turned and offered him a smile. A smile that he hated to admit even just to himself that he had missed. "You too Clar." he assured with a slight nod, his hands slipping into the comfort of his pockets.

For the first time in a long time, Jim found it difficult to focus. His mind kept wandering to the upcoming meeting when he'd see the blonde again. A part of him wanted to fix things, recapture the magic they had, but a part of him was terrified she'd reject him a second time and he doubted he'd be able to handle that very well.

When Friday came, Jimmy had all his materials ready by 6:30 and was downstairs waiting for the car that showed promptly at 6:45 as promised. The drive wasn't far, but he also didn't bother to indulge in any small talk, his mind preoccupied with thoughts of seeing Clarice once again. The brunette thanked the driver and headed into the building, walking up toward the desk, he noticed the pretty receptionist who was clearly flustered by his mere presence. "Jimmy Hall for Clarice Copeland." he introduced with his usual charming smirk.

This unfunny comedy's catchy trailer played on every second VHS cassette I would watch the late 80s–early 90s. Lewis has a fun cameo as one of the court's jury members. Selleck doesn't have fun though.
