“Asahi, please… you must’ve seen her!” Hyunsuk whined through the phone while Asahi glared at me. “Yah! How many times have I told you?! I have an internship, and I've been helping Junghwan pack. She’ll show up eventually, Hyunsuk” he said, already annoyed by our quarrel.

“I know… I'm just worried. I’m even thinking of going there myself soon… I just need to wrap a few things up so when I get there how about we hang out? After I found my sister… “ he said and I sighed.

“You’re screwed,” Jaehyuk said and I agreed. It doesn’t help that I've been getting constant messages on my phone and calls worrying about me…

“Bye,” he said as he hung up and glared silently. I smiled through the awkward silence. “Explain right now why I can tell him you're here? I understand you said you had a big fight with your parents but… you never offered an explanation?!” he said frustrated and I sighed.

“Do you know that rich family my parents wanted to connect me and Hyunsuk with? Well, they have a son and daughter. Their daughter is my age… so they wanted her to be engaged with Hyunsuk. So when he started rebelling that was his last straw. Now they're trying to set me up with their son… especially now that hybrid-human relationships were starting to become common in our socialite life” I said and he sighed.

“Why haven’t you told him then? Hyunsuk could help–" "Cause I'm still planning on going back… I just don’t want to be given an arranged marriage” I said and he nodded.

“Didn’t Niki’s owner get into an arranged marriage?” Jaehyuk asked and I nodded. “Yeah… I think that's where they got the idea from” I muttered and he sighed.

“It's only a matter of time before he finds you here,” he said and I nodded.

“I think I'm going out for some air?” I said and I noticed Jaehyhuk go by the door. “No… Asahi, you can't make him come with me every time I go out. I need… alone time” I said and he scoffed.

“Look… if this was Seoul, you could but this isn’t. If you weren’t walking around in Prada shoes and Chanel jewelry then maybe I wouldn't worry” he said and I smiled.

“And thank you for worrying… but trust me a little?”

I decided I wanted to go outside of this little town.

“Hello, I'm here to see So Junghwan?” I said and the receptionist nodded before telling me… “It seems he isn’t here, we were told he was going on a trip?” she said and I sighed.

He must’ve already checked out… I thanked her for leaving when I bumped into someone familiar. “Oh? Jake?” I said, now confused. His messy blonde hair was the only thing I recognized… he was dressed in all black with expensive clothes… “y/n!” he said with a happy grin. “Looks like you recuperated,” I said and he chuckled. “Oh… yeah, it was just a little misunderstanding,” he said and I nodded. “What… happened? If I may ask?” I said and he looked hesitant. “Ah! Sorry if I'm being rude–" "No… don't worry about it. Uhmm… I’m actually from Australia and… I lost my luggage and wallet, even my phone!” he said.

“Oh… that sucks. Have you filled in a lost report?” I asked and he nodded. “Yeah, but I luckily recuperated my wallet and luggage… well some at least. I don’t have my ID yet, nor a phone” he said and I nodded.

“I’m glad you’ve managed–” “Can I repay you?” he asked while cutting me off. I would say no… but I didn’t want to go back.

“Sure!”

jake’s perspective

I know I shouldn’t be using someone else’s money to repay her but… she was so kind to me and seemed a little down.

“So what made you decide to come here to Korea?” she asked me and I had to come out with believable lies. “Oh… well, I wanted a break. Everything right now was overwhelming back where I'm from” which wasn’t necessarily a lie.

“Oh, I see… I'm sorry. I hope everything gets better. I’m actually in the same boat…” she said with a sad smile. I didn’t like seeing that… for her.

“I’m actually from Seoul,” she said and I wasn’t surprised by that… “I’m actually a student–” I was surprised she was a student at where I took these etiquette classes. “I’ve been enrolled online for this semester though,” she said and I nodded. “It must be stressful… that's a pretty good school I've heard?” I said and she nodded.

“Yeah… but it's stressful because of… well my parents' ' she confessed and I listened to her say how pressured she felt and how her older brother was the rebelled child making her their second chance at a good kid.

“I’m sorry to hear that… It does sound stressful. Do you have good friends?” I asked and she smiled. “I do… Me and my brother actually grew up in the same friend group, weird enough. Of course, I've met other people too, but sometimes I need a break from everything” she said and I agreed.

“That hybrid… you said he was your friend right?” I asked and she nodded… it didn’t seem like he told her I was one. “Jaehyuk… he’s a lion hybrid. Have you ever had one?” she asked me and I chuckled. “No, and you?” I asked and she shook her head which surprised me.

“I always wanted one though… my parents thought it would be a distraction though,” she said and I wanted so badly to try to charm her but… she’d probably report me for theft.

“If you could have a hybrid… which would you choose?” I asked only to set myself up more. She smiled though… “I always wanted a dog hybrid… they seem so cuddly and sweet you know?” she said and I felt my heart ache.

“I get what you mean,” I said and she chuckled. “How about you?” she asked and I found this all too ironic. “I’d choose the same,” I said and she smiled. “You know… you look like you’d be a dog hybrid” she said and I froze. “You have puppy features… it's cute” she said and I felt my face heat up.

She seemed to giggle at my reaction before I could recover from that. “You really are cute!” she said and I felt my face heat up, even my tag twitch in “my” coat.

“Hey, Jake?” she said and I hummed waiting for whatever she’d say next.

“Let’s do something fun!”

“What do you mean you’ve never done this before!” she said as she held that dog plush she won. “I… haven’t actually ever been to an arcade before” I confessed and she grinned. “Then here! Yours, a physical reminder of this day!” she said as she held out the dog plush and I grabbed it.

My first… gift.

“We have to try some more! Ooh, they have figurines–” She was filled with life and I never would’ve expected it. I was jealous but she was contagious and I was actually enjoying myself for once. She was fun to be around… but I couldn’t keep the desires at bay, to tell her the truth and beg her to adopt me.

To have what Niki had… who knew I'd find the perfect stranger at the worst time?

While I was playing human… stole from someone who had a lot of money and well ran away illegally.

“A famous person is outside” I suddenly heard… famous? “Jake? What’s wrong?” she asked and I shook my head. “Nothing apparently someone famous is–” “Hide!” she said as she grabbed my wrist and hid us behind the arcade games away from the windows.

“That’s Choi Hyusuk!” I heard and she looked nervous. “Are you okay?” I asked and she smiled nervously. “Of course!” she said but I couldn’t believe her terrible lie. “Did he do something to you? I can–” “No… he’s a friend I guess' ' she said but it only left me more confused.

“Hyunsuk, she’s not going to be here” I heard and saw the lion hybrid by the side of someone else. “Fuck… Jake, we have to run” she whispered and I nodded worried for her. “Ready?” she asked and before we could run. “You really wanna run towards paparazzi? Stupid little sister” I heard… sister?

“Hyunsuk!” she suddenly said in a fake cheery tone while turning around to her supposed brother. “It’s great to see–” “How dare you ignore all of my messages?! I called like what!? 100… no 200 times?! I even filled up your voicemail!” he scolded.

“Still pretending?” I heard and I looked at the hybrid… I needed to leave.

“You interrupted me… uhmm” she wondered… “Who is this guy? Did he threaten–” he suddenly grabbed my collar. Who was he?! “–you? Do I need to kill him?!” he said and I shook my head silently begging for my life “Let him go! He knows nothing about this…” she said and the guy let me go. “Ah, sorry about that. I’m Hyunsuk!” he said as he held out his hand for me to shake. “Jake,” I said and he nodded and went back to scolding her.

He was… scary.

“Where’d you even get that…” the lion hybrid muttered. I felt my eyes widen. “That smells familiar,” he said and I chuckled. “y/n, it was an honor everything really but I need to go!” I said and she was going to protest before being scolded by her brother.

I ran… I soon saw paparazzi suddenly swarm outside taking photos from inside.

“Hello! Do you miss y/n’s lover?” “Are you the reason she ran away?” “Who are you?”

y/n’s perspective

After getting away from the paparazzi and back to Asahi’s apartment.

“You lied to me,” he pouted to him. “She asked me to keep it a secret” he defended and my brother glared at me. “Why didn’t you answer?” he asked genuinely worried and I was guilty that I worried him.

“I’m sorry…” I said and he patted my head. “Just tell me the truth,” he begged and nodded.

“Mom and Dad want me to marry Junghwan…” I said and his eyes widened. “Junghwan?! He would never agree–""His parents agree to it… he’s currently in Japan hiding away” I said and he sighed frustrated.

“They can’t force you… they couldn’t with me” he said and I smiled. “You’re a boy,” I said and he sighed. “I know… maybe this will convince them. They called worried for you, but they haven’t mentioned at all about canceling any marriage plans. No wonder mom was looking at a wedding dress catalog” he said and I whined frustrated at this.

“This is unfair! Why am I even in school then learning business for Dad?!” I asked frustrated and he sighed. “They want to have you marry someone competent I guess?” he asked and I sighed.

“Uhm… y/n who was the guy you were with?” Asahi asked and I was confused as to why that was important. “Yeah! Did you get a boyfriend?! Is that–” ”NO!” I yelled.

“He’s a runaway hybrid from the Seoul Hybrid Adoption Center they’ve been looking for,” he said and I was confused. He was a human I was… I was sure of it until I saw Asahi show me articles and posts on Twitter comparing Jake to the missing hybrid from Seoul.

And how apparently I kidnapped him…

Despite how badly Jaehyuk wanted to be cuddled up with you right now, he felt like he was okay with this.

You had wanted to go for a walk through the park since the leaves were changing, and who was he to deny you when you were so excited? You had even packed your little sketchbook into your bag, smiling to yourself as you took his hand. Eventually, he would end up with either his head on your shoulder or in your lap as you painted. Most of your little nature dates with Jaehyuk ended like that: with you and your tiny travel watercolor kit, and him admiring you as you painted. But for now? For now, he would hold your hand as you talked about your classes and how they were going.

Yet he couldn’t fight back the smile when he watched you purposefully step onto dead leaves, just to hear them crunch underneath your boots. Cute, cute—you’re so cute. How were you this cute? Jaehyuk’s friends teased him for how enamored he was when it came to you. It felt like he loved every little quirk you had, but he’d argue that he felt that way for pretty much all of his friends. He liked the little quirks that made a person them.

“I have a test in class next week, actually…” You sighed. “I should probably be studying for it, but I didn’t really want to when it’s so pretty today.”

He nodded along. “Have you seen a spot you want to paint yet?”

A flustered look crossed your face as you fought back a smile, cheeks likely burning with embarrassment at how well he knew you. Why be embarrassed, he wondered to himself, to have a boyfriend that knew you? Then again, maybe you weren’t so much as embarrassed that he knew you so well, but that he’d pretty much pegged the thought that lingered in the back of your mind. You were on the lookout for something pretty that you could paint, after all… It was too nice out to not capture the scenery.

“Not yet,” you mumbled, tugging your hoodie closer to you.

Wordlessly, Jaehyuk pulled his hand free from your own. He’d reached up to unwrap the scarf he was wearing, bristling slightly at the chill in the air.

“You don’t have to—”

I do, he thought to himself, because I care about you, and I know you get cold easily. He’d stopped you, wrapping his scarf around your neck before leaning in to steal a quick peck. “Better?”

Shyly, you nodded after a moment. “Better.”

With a chuckle, he stole another quick kiss from you. How could he not when you were so adorable to him? He slipped his hand into yours again, intertwining his fingers with your own. You could keep him warm that way (or, if he felt particularly cheesy, he’d tease you later by saying his burning love for you was enough to keep him warm). Besides, it wasn’t too cold outside. It was autumn, and it wasn’t the warmest, but he would be fine in the layers he already had on.

When you stepped onto the grass, Jaehyuk knew that you’d found something you found pretty enough to paint. Now you just had to find a nice spot and work from there. He let go of your hand as you made your way over to a nearby tree, turning and chewing at the inside of your cheek as you debated whether this was the spot or not. After a moment you set your bag down, and sank down to sit at the base of the tree, already moving to get your supplies out. Jaehyuk didn’t mind these dates in the slightest: he liked being able to be close to you. He lowered himself onto the ground next to you, pulling out his earbuds before offering up one to you. You accepted it with a smile, and he snuggled in closer, resting his head on your shoulder as he watched you begin to sketch.

Now that he was looking at it, he could see what you liked. The vibrant red and orange leaves that painted the sidewalk, the river in the distance providing a nice contrast to it all, and the way the golden sun painted it all in this warm glow. It was gorgeous, even if it wasn’t his favorite sight in the park (that would always be you). But he snuggled in a little more, smiling to himself as he watched you work.

“Are you warm enough?” You asked after a few minutes. “I can give you back the scarf if you want.”

He merely let out a blissful sigh, shutting his eyes for a moment. “I’m good,” he mumbled. He would always be fine if he was next to you.

(He wouldn’t fail to notice the later sketch in your sketchbook, though, of his head in your lap, drawn after you’d finished your vibrant little watercolor painting.)

A/N- hey guys ik it’s kind of slow burn, but after this their interactions r constant and the build up is a little more 😏😏😏 ALSO IM SO SORRY FOR THE LATE UPDATE I GOT SICK FOR LIKE A MONTH AND THEN I HAD MY EXAMS

A few months later….

Jaehee stood in her sparsely furnished apartment, her heart heavy with a sense of unease. She moved methodically, folding clothes and packing her essentials into a small suitcase. The prospect of flying to Japan to expand her martial arts academy business didn't fill her with excitement, but rather a gnawing anxiety.

As she zipped up her suitcase, she couldn't help but reflect on the challenges ahead. It was a daunting endeavor, filled with uncertainties and risks.

Jaehee took a deep breath, trying to summon the determination she needed for this journey. She knew that success required sacrifices and bold moves, but that didn't make it any easier. With her bags in hand, she left her apartment, locking the door behind her, and headed towards the airport, her apprehension growing with each step.

On the other hand, Seventeen was in a state of controlled chaos as they hurriedly prepared to leave for their highly anticipated Japan tour. The dorm was a flurry of activity, with members bustling about, gathering their belongings, and ensuring they had everything they needed for the tour.

Seungcheol, the group's leader, stood at the epicenter of the commotion, his usually calm demeanor replaced by a sense of urgency. He barked out instructions and reminders, trying to maintain order amidst the pandemonium. His role was not just to lead them on stage but also to manage the logistical aspects of their tours, and today was no exception.

"Okay, guys, let's move! We've got a schedule to keep!" Seungcheol called out, his voice firm but not without a touch of warmth. He knew that keeping everyone on track was crucial for a smooth departure.

Members scurried to their designated areas, double-checking their passports and luggage. Mingyu was frantically searching for his favorite hoodie, while Woozi was making sure he had his trusted laptop.

Seungcheol's experience as a leader shone through as he efficiently guided each member out of the dorm and into their respective waiting cars. Despite the frenzy, there was a sense of unity among them, a shared excitement for the journey ahead.

As they left the dorm one by one, Seungcheol couldn't help but feel a surge of pride, after all he managed to get 12 people out of the house on time for their flight to Japan where their loyal Japanese fanbase awaited them.

Jaehee navigated her way through the bustling airport, her suitcase rolling behind her. Her phone buzzed, and she saw her brother Yoon Jaehyuk's name on the screen. Answering the call, she greeted him with a warm smile.

"Hey, Noona, have you reached the airport safely?" Jaehyuk's voice crackled with concern.

"Yes, I'm here," she replied, her voice filled with a mix of weariness and determination. "And don’t worry, I'll get your watermelon flavoured Hai-Chew from Japan."

Before she could end the call, a chorus of voices erupted in the background. It was the other members of her brother's group, Treasure.

"Hey, Noona! Can you bring us some Japanese snacks too?" they chimed in unison.

Jaehee chuckled at their enthusiasm. "Of course, I will. Just send me a list of what you all want, and I'll do my best."

As she approached the security check, Jaehee hurriedly added, "I've got to go now, Please tell Jaehyuk that I'll call him once I'm settled."

Just as she disconnected the call and moved toward the security line, her attention was diverted by a group of boys who seemed to be in a rush, running through the airport and creating a whirlwind of chaos in their wake. She couldn't help but think, "Oh lord, they're so fucking noisy." The contrast between her calm demeanor and their energetic antics couldn't have been more apparent,

The business-woman settled into the comfort of the business class waiting room, grateful for a moment of respite before her flight to Japan.

The plush seats offered a welcome contrast to the airport's hustle and bustle. As she relaxed, she couldn't help but take out her laptop and work on the upcoming business meetings and the presentations.

Just as she began to find a sense of calm, a familiar raucous laughter caught her attention.

Turning her head, she saw the same group of noisy boys she had noticed earlier at the security check entering the waiting room. They settled down, but their chatter and antics created a whirlwind of chaos.

Her irritation grew with each passing moment. The boys seemed utterly oblivious to their surroundings, laughing loudly, playfully pushing each other around and dancing in a weird manner. They were like a whirlwind, disrupting the usually serene atmosphere of the business class area.

Jaehee couldn't help but roll her eyes, wondering how she would endure this journey with such noisy companions. Their exuberance was in stark contrast to the peace and quiet she had hoped for on this flight

To seek refuge from the commotion caused by the noisy group of boys, Jaehee had decided to step out of the waiting room to stretch her legs. She strolled down the corridor, contemplating the challenges that lay ahead in Japan.

Meanwhile, inside the waiting room, Seokmin turned to Seungcheol, his expression a mixture of urgency and discomfort. "Hyung, I really need to go to the washroom," he said, trying to keep his voice discreet.

Seungcheol, busy keeping an eye on their boarding time, replied absentmindedly, "Sure, take someone with you."

Seokmin hesitated for a moment but decided he could manage on his own. He headed towards the restroom, unaware that two enthusiastic fangirls had started tailing him discreetly.

It was only when he entered the restroom that he noticed the pair following him.

The fangirls, recognizing their idol, Seokmin, couldn't contain their excitement. They approached him, cameras in hand, expressing their admiration and invading his privacy. Seokmin panicked, feeling cornered and overwhelmed.

Jaehee, with her extensive martial arts training, had grown used to intervening in difficult situations. The commotion from the restroom reached her ears, and without hesitation, she rushed to the scene.

Inside the restroom, the two fangirls continued their intrusion, causing Seokmin's distress to escalate. Just as the fans were starting to get handsy, Jaehee stormed in with an air of authority. With swift and precise movements, she expertly disarmed the intrusive fangirls, neutralizing the threat without causing much harm.

Seungcheol, growing concerned about Seokmin's prolonged absence, decided to investigate along with their manager.

He entered the restroom only to find Seokmin thanking the formidable young woman who had come to his rescue.

Then, in a moment of sheer disbelief, Seungcheol and Jaehee locked eyes. Recognition dawned upon them simultaneously, and in perfect unison, they exclaimed, "YOU!"

Their eyes met in a blend of astonishment and surprise. The two strangers who had clashed in that fateful night now found themselves face to face once more, this time under entirely different circumstances. YG Treasure Box, Episode 10 (Finale): What. The. Hell.

Welcome back to the finale of the most frustrating and exhausting show I have ever recapped, and we haven’t even begun to discuss what happens to the final group. K-pop is a crazy business, but Treasure has really been through the wringer. This finale is 90 minutes, so we’ve got a lot to cover. Let’s do this.

We have another auditorium packed with 600 excited fans, our largest audience yet. I swear, our ice castle stage keeps getting bigger.

The fans are waving their signs and shrieking with excitement. A single spotlight shines on our announcer. He tells us our final group will have seven members (no. it. fucking. won’t.) and we’re going to find out who they are tonight. (no we fucking won’t. more on that later.) Our 600 fans are going to be voting, and now it’s time for the voting rules.

Out of a total of 1,000 points, CEO Yang will have 50%. The pre-show online votes will take up 20%, and the live audience will have 30%. I have so many questions, but since they involve math, I won’t understand the answers. Let’s just get started!

We open with a performance by all … thirteen finalists. We ended the last episode with eleven. Why are there now thirteen? They’re going to perform the signal song. The announcer gives no explanation for the new number, but it looks like we’re getting a flashback.

The Dumb and Dumber Team is out clothes shopping. We’re told new clothes add to their charm. I would argue so do the two new members. Who are they and when do we get to see them?

Now we go to the training center, where the eleven finalists are gathered, just sitting on the floor and waiting. A YG producer walks in and tells them the final mission will be a genre competition – rap, vocal, and dance. The finalists who come in first in each genre will be in the final debut group.

Now we’re finally getting the news. It won’t be eleven trainees who compete. We get a flashback within a flashback, and let’s just cut to the chase. Our ever-decisive CEO has decided to bring back two trainees who were cut. I hope they stopped those two before they flew all the way home and had to fly back. I’d be PISSED.

First to walk through the door is Seung Hun. You have got to be kidding me. Everyone cheers and hugs him and yeah okay either Yoshi or Jaehyuk had better be walking through that door next.

We won’t get to find out until the Signal Song performance who the second addition is because this show clearly hates us.

As the song begins, our finalists step into the spotlight, one by one. But it’s only the first five, and not the new one. Finally, he comes out. It’s Jaehyuk. He’s finally catching a break. And as the thirteen trainees dance onstage, we finally see Yoshi. In the audience. Sitting with the other eliminated trainees. I feel so sad seeing him there. And why are the eliminated trainees wearing military uniforms?

Now the audience votes for their favorite trainees from the Signal Song performance. As they vote, the CEO launches into a little speech about how initially he thought seven members would be too many, and okay just shut up. Let’s move this along so we can fix this final group you’re throwing together.

I can already see why this episode is so long. They are REALLY dragging out the vote reveal. Junkyu comes in first place, but that’s only the online and audience member vote, so we don’t know who CEO Yang chose. Everyone carries on like he’s already been chosen to debut, and then the announcer clears the stage. It’s time for the performances by genre. First up are the rappers.

We get a flashback in which we see the finalists choose their genre groups. This also drags on, and I’m starting to think this episode could easily be cut down to thirty minutes. But I’ve learned from doing these recaps that almost all finales are like this.

This is every bit as exciting as it looks.

After several loooong minutes, we finally get our teams. Treasure members are highlighted.

Seriously, this takes forever, and I started fast-forwarding. Some of us have other shows to recap. Let’s pick up the pace. Also, you’ll notice we have ten highlighted names, and only seven will be in the final group. Welcome to the chaos that will be Treasure!

The rap team starts rehearsing. Their song is “Hit Me” by MOBB. We suddenly see that the audience at the finale is is also watching all these recaps on giant screens. If I were in the audience, no matter how much I love these trainees, I’d be desperately searching my voting device for a fast-forward button during these flashbacks. Even the parents look bored.

Wake up, everyone! Flashback is over, time for the rap performance!

I love this. It’s wild and fun, and our boys are having the time of their lives up there. The cameras can barely keep up with them. I don’t know how anyone could choose a favorite. All four absolutely kill it.

Our Style King Hyun Suk wins the online vote. We still don’t have the CEO’s input, but I’m just happy seeing Hyun Suk happy. Haruto wins the audience vote, which now puts him at the top. But we won’t get CEO Yang’s votes yet, so I’m not sure why we’re doing this.

Now we get a surprisingly undignified moment, even for this show. Each rapper has to tell the CEO why they deserve his vote. This can’t possibly serve any purpose other than to inflate CEO Yang’s ego. I really, REALLY do not like him.

Thanksfully, the grovelling is kept short. The boys use humor, and I’m wondering if the CEO is actually using this as an opportunity to show charm. Okay, I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt on this one. The rappers bow and leave the stage.

Next up: Dance. We get a flashback to rehearsals. This is the largest group, with six people, so there’s more competition. They want to throw in as many new techniques as they can, and – oh no. Mashiho wants to try the backflip again.

Instead of launching from a standing position, he wants to run and leap over a kneeling finalist and flip in the air. The fact that he’ll make the final group is how I know he’s not going to be killed doing this.

Doyoung practices a back somersault. They’re all practicing gymnastic moves, and I’m wondering if this is going to look more like a circus act than a dance mission. They’re starting to get injuries during rehearsals. Please, someone stop them.

No one stops them. It’s showtime. I can’t look.

Wow. It’s amazing. It’s not just gymnastics. It’s intense interpretive dance. The song ends with a series of gunshots, and one by one, they fall as if dead. My jaw is on the floor. These finalists have seriously stepped up their game.

CEO Yang says he didn’t know YG was capable of producing a performance like that, which is one of the highest compliments I’ve heard on any of these shows. The audience and online votes come in. For now, Mashiho is in the lead.

Finally, the vocal performance. We only have three finalists in this group: Yedam, Jeongwoo, and Junkyu. All future treasure members. But I’m pretty sure Favorite Son Yedam is going to win this category. It’s pretty much a done deal. I love Yedam and am a fan of his work, but I really would like to see someone do better than him for once.

They choose the song “Last Dance” by BigBang, a group I’ve been learning more about ever since I saw T.O.P on Season 2 of Squid Game. This is a beautiful song. Jeongwoo feels outclassed by the way Yedam and Junkyu sing it so beautifully. Now I’m pulling for Jeongwoo to win.

We may be headed in that direction if the Flashback Formula is working. At the midpoint eval, the vocal coach praises Yedam and Junkyu but tells Jeongwoo he still needs work. He does say that Jeongwoo has improved a lot from being on this show. I’m hoping he’s improved enough to win the vocal category. Let’s find out.

I’m definitely adding this song to my playlist. It moved me to tears, and I didn’t even understand the words because the lyrics weren’t translated. I’m not the only one. When the song ends, all three vocalists are fighting back tears.

The online and audience votes are counted. The one currently in first place is … wow, it’s Junkyu. It’s not the final vote, but still. It’s nice to see someone else get recognized. Well done, Junkyu.

We now get a montage of all the trainees from the very beginning when they first started with YG. We see the bad times and the good times and it’s very heartwarming and can we please get on with the show? No, wait – we get video messages from the eliminated trainees. Hello, Asahi. Hang in there!

Finally, it’s time to choose the debut group. Let’s do this. We see our finalists on the stage.

Are those also military uniforms? Why are they dressed like that? Whatever the reason, we’re going to have the top three from the vocal, rap, and dance categories. As for the remaining four spots, they will be chosen by the highest number of votes. And, I’m sure, CEO Yang’s thumb on the scale.

First we get the winner from the rap group. Our first member of Treasure will be: Haruto! He is overwhelmed. We see his family, including his little sister, laughing and crying.

Now for the vocal group. There’s no way it won’t be Yedam.

Now for the dance group. The winner is our Treasure maknae Junghwan. He was definitely not expecting to win.

This next part is frustrating and confusing. They say they will announce the rankings from the audience and online votes for the remaining four members, but CEO Yang hasn’t weighed in yet. So for right now, Junkyu is ranked Number One and Hyun Suk is Number Four, but it’s not the final vote, so I don’t know why they’re telling us this. Junkyu is asked to say a few words. What is he supposed to say? All he can say is, “I want to debut,” and the announcer thanks him for his honesty.

I really, really hate this series.

Junkyu is finally announced as the fourth debut member. He sinks to his knees. This finale has put him through hell.

Okay. Let’s find out the rest of the group!

CEO Yang picks up a mic. I’m ready for this.

He says that these four will be the only final members to be announced tonight. The remaining three will be announced over the next several days on VLIVE.

What. The absolute. Fuck?

The family members of the finalists have come all this way. We’ve sat through this finale and all its endless flashbacks. The fans have invested over ten hours of their lives on this series. And you’re not going to finish naming the group members?

Even the announcer looks pissed. I keep waiting for CEO Yang to say, “Nah, I’m just kidding.” But no. The show actually ends here.

I am FURIOUS. This has been the most undecisive, poorly-structured survival show I have ever seen. I never want to stop punching everyone at YG Entertainment in the face.

Honestly, once I cool down, I realize this is kind of appropriate. Treasure’s debut and lineup changes will be a total mess, so it makes sense the finale would kick off the process with the worst ending to a finale possible.
