I am so glad the new kdramas are bringing back the specific brand of loser men. You know which brand I'm talking about. The Ahn "min min" Minhyuk brand of loser men and I'm loving it. The "I worship this goddess and I'm so in love with her and I can't believe I get to love her. Oh my gods I love her so much" brand of loser men. And we're being fed so well with lovely runner, love next door, no gain no love, my demon, Cinderella at 2am, Hierarchy, Midnight Romance in Hagwon, doctor slump, Queen of tears, welcome to samdal-ri and even good partner (yes it's one sided but the dedication and yuri's couple too).
We need more fictional loser men who worship women to satiate our eldest independent daughter desires.

The fight for justice starts with a little invitation...
Tumblr media
...because evil is prevalent and vehement.
Here's a reminder that Season 2 of The Fiery Priest is scheduled to air on Friday, November 8, 2024 in South Korea. The Fiery Priest is the second of Park Jae-Beom's "Justice Trilogy" as it's frequently called (Chief Kim aka Good Manager ; The Fiery Priest; Vincenzo in order of release) and I would love an invitation into screenwriter Park's brain because his creations are so very very good.
On this blog, I frequently talk about movies but dramas, specifically "kdramas," are another delight and from script to director(s) to casting to cinematography and soundtrack, this trilogy holds a special place for me. I think I could write a novel on the themes and scenes in Vincenzo alone. When not only the titular character but the entire cast keeps you watching, you know it's the good stuff. So happy all three shows were twenty episodes and didn't follow the more current trend of shortening the season. The slow character development enabled the viewer to discover individual stories without muddying up the plot too much.
I'm looking forward to watching as soon as Season 2 of The Fiery Priest is available for me to view, and if you haven't seen any of the above shows, I recommend them!
*Pictured above: Kim Nam-Gil as Father Kim (top) and Song Joong-Ki as Vincenzo. Two unconventional "heroes" fighting the good fight.

Nothing, just... Randomly thinking about the fact that the all the song writers of Alchemy of Souls knew exactly, EXACTLY what was going to happen and even gave literal spoilers in the lyrics to prepare us for it.
We were just too ignorant to notice...

Please Don’t Date Him. 7
Story: 7
Acting: 10
Chemistry: 10
Comparable to: ?
This is a weird cookie cutter nutter romcom drama that’s absolutely not to be taken seriously at all. Although beneath its craziness, the last couple episodes, there’s a nice message to not judge or bully anyone especially from hearing it from rumors or gossip. Both main leads have wonderful chemistry as well as the rest of the cast. There’s quite some uneven episodes. Sometimes it drag, then rushed very fast. It could have used better editing. Is it a perfect drama, far from it. On the other hand it’s a cute fun quick drama too.

Night Has Come
Tumblr media
TV Shows/Dramas watched in 2023
Night Has Come (2023, South Korea)
Director: Im Dae Woong
Writer: Kang Min Ji
Mini-review:
I've been obssesed with the Mafia game for years, so I was really excited when this sort-of-adaptation was announced. But tbh, it's nothing extraordinary. While it's very fun and it keeps you glued to the screen, it's also very silly. What's more, pretty much all the characters are incredibly dumb and frustrating. Although I have to say that's part of what makes the show fun. You just can't help but stick around to see how these characters mess things up even more. Hell, they make so many stupid decisions that I actually found myself screaming at the TV more times than I'd like to admit. Some of the twists did catch me by surprise, but the ending was... not good. I had already guessed the writer would pull something like that, but it was actually worse than I expected. Anyway, Night Has Come isn't good, but I had a fun watching it and it kept me entertained, so that's something.

I have a habit of finding the meaning of song lyrics since the days I started watching animes and wanted to memorise the openings. Which very obviously projected to learning the lyrics of the kdrama OSTs I loved. I always try to find the meanings and learn the lyrics.
To this day I've never heard more meaningful OSTs than that of Alchemy of Souls. I don't know how many of you have actually seen the english translations. But the song are so in sync with the show. The more I listen to them, the more I fall in love. It's almost poetic.
In 'Just Watching You- Jeong Sewoon', Which is Seo Yul's song, the last line of the chorus goes: "...In the next coming spring, will you bloom beside me?"
Which is so in point with Yul's character. Because he never had the courage to act on his feelings. He still asks her to come to him. Even though Yul is Autumn, he still asks her to bloom in spring, because that is when flowers normally bloom. Because Yul could never find it in himself to do something that's not by the rules.
Then ofcourse there's, 'Scars leave a beautiful trace- Car, the Garden', which is completely Jang Uk's song. The bridge of the song goes: "Even in the cold winters, you will bloom... You'll see"
Even though the whole song is about Jang Uk's journey and his love, that one sentence is written so beautifully. Jang Uk is represented as winter. But Jang Uk has never waited to do something by the book. So he's not waiting for the 'right moment'. He makes his point. He tells Mudeok he got her love letter, and that in reply he misses her. He's going to wait for her, because he knows she's coming to him. But he's not like Yul. He has never played by the rules and neither has the woman he fell for. Their love is unconventional. He's not going to wait for spring to come. He is winter, and so, she's going to bloom in winter.
And then in, "Aching- Kassy", the chorus goes: "Like a flower blooming in the cold white snow, I have endured on this rough road all alone. I engrave your beautiful shining name deep into my aching heart."
Aching is very completely Yeong's song for Jang Uk. And like Jang Uk said she'll bloom in winter for him. She says she's already like a flower that blooms in the cold winters and endures alone in the white snow. That's how Yeong had grown up. She had walked a tough, cold and dark path all alone, her whole life. But then she finds Jang Uk. And he lights up her whole world. His name itself brings warmth and brightness into her life. So she engraves his name into her heart.
All of these three songs talk about a flower blooming. Which is a metaphor for Naksu/Mudeok/Yeong 's character growing and evolving.
The songs so clearly showcase how Uk and Yeong bring warmth and brightness in each other's lives even though they've spent their lives in cold winters. Poetic how they're fated to be together since the beginning.
