i really really adored that jadzia went all in for lenara in "rejoined." that she said to sisko 'i know and believe that the symbiont life is precious and should go on' and then said 'but i love her.' it's sir lancelot of her. so desperate and perfect. and also she's still acting in a way that upholds the life of the symbiont. it's not jadzia's love as jadzia alone that she chose to sink into. it's a combination of things that begin with dax. torias, who was who he was bc of dax and the other past-lives. now jadzia, who is who she is bc of them all. it's a multi-being, multi-person Romantic romance and she stood on the balcony and waited to see it end bc that's what romantic heroes do, actively swallowing their heartbreak and letting it end out of deep respect and also for the poetry of it, and. because it was the lark, herald of the morn, not the nightingale.

So there is an episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine in which one of the main characters, Jadzia Dax, encounters her wife, Lenara Kahn, from another lifetime. They're both in different bodies now (alien biology stuff) and there's a taboo against 'reassociation', but they fall for each other all over again.

So, bear with me here, what if instead of that version of Dax dying in a shuttle crash, leaving behind a grieving widow, it was an illness? What if the haunting thing wasn't "I should have stopped you" but "I should have been able to save you?"

Like, say, what if they were doctors.

The look of sheer love and belonging that Dax throws across the room at the end of this clip. If you have ever loved someone and lost them, and seen them again without the love diminishing a whit, this is that look.

You belong to me, I belong to you, time and space cannot part us.

The question is how such a young actress is able to put all of that into a single look. Had she already experienced it?

If you are wlw and you haven't seen rejoined, go watch it, it is still better than most lesbian movies, even after almost thirty years. Perhaps partly because it doesn't show the beginning of a relationship, but the rekindling of one. The sensitive direction by Avery Brooks is another good reason. There is so much romantic tension in this one hour of TV.

Honestly one of the best kisses ever put on film. No mater how many times I watch it or see stills or gifs of it, it does not stop being sexy and romantic and heartbreaking as fuck. May the pillows of every person involved in making this happen be forever cool and their cereal never soggy. 🙏🏻

it's just. what if you were at least eight different people and you met someone who's like twelve people--or three--at the very least more than one--and at first only one of your persons loves only one of theirs but you can't really pick apart the web of everything you both are and it's easy as anything to feel a one-personed feeling as eight and suddenly, or not suddenly, you're altogether-as-one-thing loving another altogether-as-one-thing, two crowds drawn to each other, two many-selves in love with each other, two untangled bundles retangling and weaving about--but you're also both tangled in the rules of engagement which say to never reuse yarn in a new scarf and that you're not allowed to be crowds-in-love because it "reduces", and then you're left alone, eight-personed, untangled, and reduced.
