I'm really super happy XZ gets to work with Tsui Hark. It will be great for his career. I'm curious about something, why do we say Xiao Zhan is trying to break into movies if he already has Jade Dynasty ? And why is it important for an actor to break into movies rather than dramas?
Jade Dynasty as a movie made for TV/App. Its as a 20 Million RMB project that was meant to be launched only on Iqiyi. But because Xiao Zhan became "red" aka popular after Untamed, there was a huge surge of interest in this project. It got a theatrical release for a limited viewing, along with a press conference etc.
And yes, it did well in the box office. For a 20 Million investment, it ended up with 400 Million in revenue.
So this was a huge hit that year when released in the mid autumn festival holiday period. But along with this, also came quite a lot of criticism. Particularly to the quality of the film being a low budget TV film yet it played very well in the box office.
Tsui Hark is different. He is a legend in wuxia world. Every Chinese movie fan will know his name.
I'm guessing Xiao Zhan will follow more of a mix of both drama and movie path, based on whatever opportunities seems best. Many actors who predominantly feature in dramas have done movies, Yang Yang for instance. Li Xian as well. Liu Yifei, who has done predominantly films till now, has released a couple of back to back dramas, and still filming another drama.
In my mind, a YXH saying "he's trying to break into films" is a weird line used to do nothing but sensationalise. Yes, in film rewards are higher because its instant revenue when it releases, and its very tangible. Compared to drama which depends in sponsors and ratings for anything remotely tangible.
Till now, Xiao Zhan has always made the right choices which elevated his career one step at a time. Nothing has been handed out to him, he doesn't have a backing of a big agency. He doesn't even have the luxury of throwing out random lawyer letters unless it's super critical. He worked hard for everything, and tries his best to work around every hurdle. People who work with him instantly like him, he is a very good speaker, and very humble to everyone. He understands his characters, studies them, and replies with grace. He has loved all his characters, whether We Wuxian, Gu Wei, Gu Yiye or tue mischievous Ji Chong.
So a drama or a movie actor, Xiao Zhan will excel in both. But I believe he will refuse to confine himself in a box of category or genre.

DC asks 5, 7, 24, 38!
5. Favorite character?
i answered for orion already so my 2nd fave is probably ZATANNA not the like mid-20s teehee girlboss version in fandom i mean the like debatably morally responsible 30-40 year old version of her even when she does moral atrocities. especially when she commits moral atrocities
7. Favorite non-cannon ship?
ok i talked about lightrion in the last one and it is my my fave ship of all time ever but 2nd up is guybats. does it make sense? no. does it have deep rich lore in my mind? yes. read emerald warriors #13. it wont answer any of your questions
[Image ID: Comic cover for Emerald Warriors #13. Police tape reading GL Corps Line-Do Not Cross is going through the center of the image. On the left, Batman is lunging towards the camera, hand open. On the right side, Guy Gardner is faced right but looking behind him. His ring is shining green. The background is white with a blood splatter behind them both. The comic title and issue number are at the top.]
24. If you had total control what would you change?
BAWLING... ALL OF IT.... dc is really looking bad these days i would just rub my terrible hands over everything in it. i would not keep a lot of these current writers around. writers who are passionate abt the topics. no more fanfic readers + cartoon-only watchers writing comics. id put manbat back on JLD. restore fourth world canon. retire the jsa forever. make jesse quick an asshole (affectionate) again. retcon oberons post-kirby backstory. lock the titans back into their endless hellscape of emotional manipulation and co-depency. and finally. damn idk i need to eat something cant think. but id change probably everything
38. Who do you think is the most overlooked or underused character?
THIS IS TOUGH ive been trying to post abt them all more but reading obscure dc titles is my Thing so theres so many options.... but since he's my fave i HAVE to say orion though - firstly caus scottbarda & apokolips takes over EVERYTHING fourth world (which like i liked mister miracle bc of oberon and shilo mostly so i just. tone all fanstuff out really...) but also just DC hasnt USED HIM..... like not ENOUGH or good since his solo. ok well i liked his MMSOF appearance last year but we will never get anything remotely decent again
runner ups: ROCKET RED DMITRI PUSHKIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, koryak, strange visitor, jade yifei (not a good character i just wish she was canon instead of an ame-comi add on), jared stevens, orpheus (gavin king), chronos (walker gabriel) probably many others. im gonna go make dinner

. . . I did actually mean the GL.
Oh! Haha I am so sorry, anon! That’s what I get for assuming.
I actually really like Jade a lot! I love her relationships especially with Todd (her brother) and her being in charge during Outsiders (2003-2007). I also think one of the more interesting Green Lantern takes in an elseworld was in the much maligned Ame-Comi Girls where Jade Yifei was the main GL.
So I wouldn’t really consider Jade “bad” or “the worse” really. I enjoyed her quite a bit. But that’s just my opinion.

I mean, I'm so over complaining that the new Mulan doesn't have songs, Li Shang, and Mushu, in favor of accepting the new movie as a realistic and culturally appropriate representation of Chinese culture, but did anyone care to check wikipedia?
PS: my standing is still the same, even if this turns out to be a wrong rumor and Mushu or the cricket doesn't appear, I will still watch it and promote it, as another movie that provides the much needed Asian representation in media.

As an overseas Chinese woman who lives far away from China, fondly remembers the 1998 animated film, and visits Hong Kong yearly, I am ashamed that someone in a similar position I am in like Liu would do this! And remember, Hong Kong was a British territory, so they’re more used to practice human rights more freely than their counterparts in China.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t like the Chinese government’s shit as much as the next person, but this fact takes my dislike for the live action remake and Disney’s recent decisions to another level as it did for my disgust for the politics in the mainland area. If you’re of Chinese blood like I am or even not at all, let’s boycott the film, boycott Liu Yifei, boycott Disney, and support the people of Hong Kong in their fight to keep their rights intact. This is my only statement on the matter for now and don’t support police brutality & those supporting it! Mari out.
i’m going to take a moment to deviate from my usual posts, so bear with me: the actress starring in the 2020 Mulan remake, Liu Yifei, has just voiced her support for the Hong Kong police. these are the police who have been brutalizing protestors for several months now with batons, tear gas, and rubber bullets, and recently blinded a young medic in one eye. Liu has a social media platform of 65 million followers, and has been in the national spotlight since her casting - her words have influence and impact. her conscious decision to stand by the HK police sends a clear message: that violence against civilians is acceptable as a means of control, intimidation, and suppression.
this breaks my heart. as a person of Chinese descent, Mulan’s character was a source of inspiration and empowerment throughout my childhood, and I’m sure I wasn’t alone in my excitement to see the remake, but I’m even more saddened and disgusted by Liu Yifei’s support of the police. note that Liu is a naturalized American citizen, and reaps the benefits of freedom and democracy in the US while supporting those who are fighting to silence it in China.
if Mulan were real and here now, she would be out on the streets of Hong Kong, fighting for the fundamental rights of 7 million Hong Kong citizens. please, please, please consider boycotting this movie. skip it, pirate it, do what you need to do, but show that you won’t stand for police brutality.
#yikes!#one more reason to boycott this Mulan remake#reblog#warning: politics#Hong Kong#stand for Hong Kong#no china extradition#asia#china#Disney#live action remakes#live action remakes problems#cynical jaded fan#warning: police brutality#Disney Mulan#Mulan#you brought dishonor to us all Liu!#Liu Yifei#overseas chinese problems#not f/o takeover#this is the only thing I’ll reblog or post on the matter until further notice#Liu should be in the banned fcs lists for this reason alone! RPers take notes!

Besides Orion, what other ships would you have for Lightray, if any?
hmm i dont think i really ended up w any mostly bc LR rarely interacts w anyone outside of Orion's presence. I HC he has a bit of a puppy crush on Clark, but never something he would have approached him on
I definitely think LR has more flings than Orion would (i mean i dont think orion would have any. hes just not like that IMO) of varying degrees in seriousness. I haaaate volume 3 but i am somewhat interested in the idea of Lightray having trouble relating to people very grounded in regular/societal life problems. so overall i dont really "ship" LR with anyone bc theres no Substance but here are ones i've prompted for comedy-based valentines day specials:
Strange Visitor (like clark! but like 5000x more unstable) (but it can only happen once or he’ll do something wrong and she’ll explode him)
G'nort (JLI party got out of hand)
whoever he was hanging around with on rann. i dont know adam strange lore well enough to know any support characters to write an AU around that throwaway line with
Jade Yifei now hear me out i just think they should be like best friends who kiss on the mouth sometimes. i know they arent from the same continuity and jade is a permanent member of the DC void but well. it could be fun FOR ME!!!!!!
Space Cabbie in the back of the cab. either version
not comedy prompt but Green Man. in my personal NG timeline LR is sent solo and ends up in the Vega System with the Omega Men (THE REAL ONES NOT THE GARBAGE TK REBOOT). i dont think i have any interest in getting darkseid or his forces involved in the spider guild but i might have it be like one of those "d*saads up to something" stories. but yeah i think they werent strictly romantic but form a close bond after LR leaves for NG again
#iggyanswers#Anonymous#justixw league comix#sorry i only did partial descriptions i added the important parts but. my hands hurt now kgjdfs
