JO MULLEIN in FAR SECTOR (2019)
Heroes show up when they show up. And sometimes they take too damn long. So you try to become your own hero. Make things right yourself. But sometimes you wonder: Are you really helping? Or just making things worse? And another. You think: The world's not fair, but maybe I can make it fair. Because someone has to.

The newest Green Lantern, Sojourner "Jo" Mullein, has a personal history that literally reads like somebody took a bunch of traits from all the other Earth GLs and threw them together in a blender
Ex-military (US Army)- Hal and John
A former cop- Guy
Nerd who likes anime- Kyle
College education- Pretty much everyone except Jessica has a degree, and she would've gotten hers if not for the whole friends-getting-murdered
9/11 had a significant impact on her childhood- Simon
Got her ring directly from a Guardian right after leaving a nightclub- Kyle again
Of course, Jo is much more than just a collection of characteristics stolen from her predecessors. But hear me out, what if those similarities were intentional? Not necessarily on a Doylist level but a Watsonian one?
What if the Guardian who recruited Jo picked her specifically because she shared traits with all of the GLs who came from Earth, each of whom had proven to be heads and shoulders above the rest of the Corps?

Heroes & Villains The DC Animated Universe - Paper Cut-Out Portraits and Profiles
Elseworlds Addendum - Green Lantern / Sojourner Mullein
Sojourner “Jo” Mullein had served with the United Sates military and later became a police officer, yet she chose to leave both fields due to the corruption and injustices she was forced to contend with.  Her stubborn will and strong sense of morals attracted the attention of a Green Lantern power ring and the young woman was offered a place among the Lantern’s Corps.
Jo accepted the ring and was bestowed all of the powers of a Green Lantern.  Following completion of her training, Jo was assigned to a space sector so far from the Green Lantern home-world of Oa that it has not yet even been provided a numerical designation (instead it is simply referred to as a ‘far sector’). She has continued to fight for justice in this far sector whilst occasionally returning to earth as well as other space sectors so to aid her Lantern colleagues.
The heroine first appeared in the pages of Far Sector #1 (2020).

Love that Jo could absolutely use her ring to make the psychic umbrella thing everyone else's got, but she gave herself a poncho instead...
