The Dragon House AU
A self-indulgent AU with my OCs. It's a lot, so please take your time going through it.
(Original Role - Replacement)
Luz Noceda - Akari Hisakawa (OC, “Akari” is Japanese for "light" or "brightness")
Edalyn Clawthorne - Robyn Long (OC, cursed with the dragon curse)
Raine Whispers - Vitimir
Darius Deammone - Hettie Cutburn
Eberwolf the Huntsman- Mason
Lilith Clawthorne - Wilder Long (OC, One of Robyn's older brothers, a small personality change)
Dell and Gwendolyn Clawthorne - Alto and Giselle Long (OCs, Robyn and Wilder’s parents)
Terra Snapdragon - Darius Deammone
Adrian Graye Vernworth - Raine Whispers
Amber, Katya, and Derwin - Edalyn, Lilith, and Morton
Amity Blight - Kenzie Zamora (OC)
Willow Park - Orion Cutburn (OC, Hettie’s son)
Augustus Porter - Yule Fiedler (OC)
V/Vee - III/Ree (pink basilisk)
Masha and 2 human friends - Purple-shirted friend of Vee, random human, and Luz
Morton - Huxley Long (One of Robyn’s older brothers)
Boscha, Cat, and Amelia - Bria, Gavin, and Angmar (They hold themselves higher than the weaker students)
King Clawthorne would be renamed to Malik.
Hooty would be renamed to Scaly and have a dragon motif.
All of the palismen change to fit the witch, aside from Hunter, who still receives Flapjack and then Waffle through Dell’s new apprentice.
Jacob Hopkins, The Collector, Papa Titan, Osran, Steve, Emperor’s Coven members, Kikimora, Hunter, and Belos are the same.
Location Changes
The Dragon house is located outside of Latissa, deep in the woods. It’s a treehouse with a spiral staircase around the tree to the top. It’s situated on one of the bigger trees in the forest and connects to other buildings in the trees with bridges.
Hexside is switched out for Glandus High, along with the students, teachers, and principal. The detention track exists here as well as a separate classroom.
Everything that happened in Bonesburough now happens in Latissa, and vice versa, the coven scouts are just a bit more prominent.
The hill that Raine and Eda sit on is swapped with a cave in the woods where Vitimir and Robyn hung out in school and later in adulthood.
Blight Industries and the Blight Manor are switched out for Zamora Technology and the Zamora Estate.
The Looking Glass Ruins are swapped out for a jungle temple that is the resting place for the most powerful Bards. It holds their most powerful instruments and guarded by a large manticore. It is located east of the Titan’s skull on the shoulder.
Series Changes
Akari would have a single father instead of a single mother. His name is Mamoru Hisakawa. They also have a tradition for the other parent’s birthday since they passed away.
Orion would be in the Oracle track with Kenzie before being changed to the Healing Track. Hettie did this because she didn’t want him to be ostracized for being a Cutburn.
Robyn turns into an Eastern dragon when cursed and into a Dragonborn when he comes to terms with his curse.
Robyn gets his elixirs from his brother Huxley, who makes and sells them in Latissa at his own stand.
Instead, we experience how Glandus would have handled the greater basilisk if they had a human at their school. They win in the end.
Wilder cursed Robyn because he thought it would encourage him to join a coven and get healed. It backfired very quickly and horribly.
Robyn, in his cursed form, injured Alto to the point of making him unable to play the violin and make instruments.
Wilder turns into a wyvern when cursed (larger than Robyn’s cursed form) and into a Dragonborn in the epilogue.
In flashback sequences with the Long family, Cillian and Huxley are present, but do not speak (Robyn’s other brothers).
Cillian comes to the Dragon House instead of Giselle and tries his own methods to drive out Robyn’s curse. He wants to try and fix everything because he’s the oldest.
Flashback moments with Robyn and Vitimir are centered around potion-making and playing hooky with Vitimir’s work (Platonic with a few romance moments, not dating).
The BATTs are renamed to PATs (Potions Against Tyranny) and CATTs are renamed to CATs (Covens Against Tyranny).
When fighting against Hettie and Mason, Robyn and Vitimir create a ‘super potion’ that will stun their attackers when coming in contact with Robyn’s curse via playing the violin.
IFWOT/HECK is not how Robyn and Vitimir meet. Instead, they meet in school where Robyn approaches Vitimir. Darius (same age as them) and Hexside’s Grudgby team is there for a game and problems ensue.
Orion and Hunter are not shipped together, just friends/brotherly who bond when the Emperor’s Coven arrives at Glandus to brand the students. Orion is 13 years old, Hunter is 16 years old.
Robyn’s human disguise name is Gerald. He hides his ears and horns with a big cowl and his tail is hooked to his belt like a chain.
Darius begrudgingly plays the part of Robyn in the Collector’s “Dragon House” game and makes fun of him for liking Potion brewers.
Kikimora goes to Glandus disguised as Miki and her Abomatron as Roka, students from St Epiderm. She builds her empire there with those students.
Hunter, with Orion, would be greeted by Mason and Hettie when everyone is turned back to normal.
Hettie, Mason, and Vitimir team up with Zamora Technology and Blight Industries to find a way to remove the sigils. It turns out successful.
Unchanged Parts
Gravesfield is still the location of the portal door, therefore Akari and her dad live there and Akari goes to school there.
The portal door is found buried in the ground.
Belos’ past (whatever we have of it) is the same with Caleb and Evelyn, and slowly taking over the Isles with the grim walkers he made with Caleb’s dead body.
The Emperor's Castle, the Conformatorium, and the Archives locations do not change.
Training on the Knee still happens, just with Akari, Robyn, Kenzie, and and Kenzie’s cousins.
Palisman Adoption Day still happens, just at Glandus High.
Time-traveling to the past to meet Philip Wittebane with Akari and Wilder.
The Titan Trappers exist and still want to look for the last Titan.
Hunter leaves the Emperor’s Coven after going through Belos’ mind and learning about his true intentions.
More students start learning multitrack.
Hunter tells the school about Belos’ Draining Spell plans.
The Coven heads still fight on the Day of Unity, the roles are just swapped.
No matter how, Vitimir’s hat gets cut in half at the Day of Unity.
Robyn’s arm gets pulled off during the Draining Spell.
Belos enlisted the help of the Collector for the Draining Spell, and did not keep his end of the deal.
S3E1’s events happen the same way.
The Archives get built over the Titan’s head.
The Collector’s backstory is the same.
The Titan gives the human his remaining powers to help stop Belos.
Dell still gets an apprentice and hits his goal to replenish the palistrom trees with the Bat Queen.
Extra
Hettie changed Orion’s last name to Pines to keep him safe from Belos (Reference to Gravity Falls).
Yule is in the Bard track playing the cello. Their dad works as an author and was in the Illusion track.
Kenzie’s parents are the biggest manufacturers of crystal balls in the Isles. Their company is called Zamora Tech.
Her mother is in the Illusion Coven and her father is in the Oracle Coven.
New Palisman with witches:
Robyn has a brown griffin palisman named Ginger.
Kenzie has an orange moth palisman named Squeak.
Orion has an forest green Aesculapian snake palisman named Basil.
Yule has a gray jumping spider palisman named Lucas.
Akari has a yellow axolotl palisman named Hibiki.
Wilder has a white porcupine palisman named Spike.
Alto has a muted green manticore palisman named Brutus.
Giselle has a green-blue Cerberus palisman named Cerb.
Bria has a purple poison dart frog palisman named Yahir.
Glandus High’s Principal has a brown squirrel palisman named Chestnut.
Cillian has a navy blue eel palisman named Thunder.
Huxley has a black wolf palisman named Forrest.

Emperor’s Coven members
The PATs wear steampunk-inspired lower-face masks and goggles. Vitimir only wears the goggles.
Their outfits are also to help conceal their identities.
Giselle is in the Healing Coven and has been trying to use different healing methods on Robyn’s curse.
Alto is in the Bard Coven. He used to teach young witches how to play certain instruments and used to hand-make instruments.
Glandus High’s principal is trying to diminish the whole “Strongest students at the top of the food chain” thing. It’s not going well, but he’s trying.
Wilder, after leaving the Emperor’s Coven, starts working a job that studies extinct beasts on the Boiling Isles.
When Robyn and Wilder’s curse starts showing, they sprout scales on their skin the same color as the scales on their tails.
Robyn’s personality is not like Eda’s, so his way of teaching magic is a bit different, but still strange to Akari and everyone else.
Of the Glandus Group: Orion is the youngest (13), then Akari (14), Kenzie (14), then Yule (15), and Hunter is the oldest (16).
Vitimir uses his corrosive breath to fight against the spreading mold from Belos when he possesses the Titan’s heart.
Kenzie’s cousins live in the Palm Stings, but enjoy visiting once in a while to bug their cousin and help their aunt and uncle.
Akari and Kenzie confess to each other and start dating after Scaly tries to get them together.
Akari also comes out to her dad as bisexual and is accepted.
Kenzie has a job at Latissa Inn at the Front desk and the Inn’s IT witch. At Zamora Tech, she tests out their beta versions of new projects.
She dyes her hair from dirty blonde to Oracle purple after she loses her job for leaving her post. Her real hair color is black.
Scaly is still an anomaly to the Glandus group and to Robyn, despite being a house demon.
During the Apocalypse:
Most of the Boiling Isles inhabitants were turned into puppets.
The Collector and Malik play “The Dragon House” game.
Robyn, Wilder, and Malik stay together as the Collector thinks Robyn is still in his cursed form.
Glandus High is being run by the students and Bria with “Miki” helping her.
The Glandus Group was thrown into the Human realm, then found a way back to the Demon Realm.
Darius plays Robyn in “The Dragon House” game until he steps out of line and gets turned into a puppet by the Collector.
Darius, Raine, and Eberwolf are the three who want the throne while the Isles is being rebuilt and are scared off by Hettie and Mason. Eberwolf sneaks back to touch the throne before a scalpel is thrown at him.
Time-skip stuff:
Akari and Ree graduate high school and Akari goes to the Boiling Isles for College (all majors).
Orion is a nurse at his mother’s clinic taking on a Dr. Frankenstein role and part-time Flyer Derby player.
Hunter works with Alto to create instruments that younger witches can play.
Alto and Giselle are seen at their work with Orion and Hunter.
Wilder and Scaly get to work at the University of Wild Magic for Abominations. Wilder also gets his Dragonborn form.
Kenzie works at Zamora Tech with her (now divorced) father as head engineer.
The Glandus Principal is still at Glandus, mostly diminishing its student rules.
Vitimir, Hettie, and Mason collaborated with Blight Industries to help create a machine that removes sigils.
The Manticore from the Jungle Temple is living peacefully, now with cubs.
Yule is a big musician who’s released a few albums.
Robyn works with his brother Huxley to produce an elixir that helps ailments and lasts longer.
Robyn gains a mechanical arm to replace his disintegrated one, made by Zamora Tech.
Vitimir gets a palisman.
The group celebrates Akari’s birthday as she starts college in the Boiling Isles.
Malik shows Akari his new light glyph.

KK's Priest veröffentlichen Video zu Sons Of The Sentinel
Tumblr media
K.K. The Sinner Rides Again track listing: 1. Sons Of The Sentinel 2. Strike Of The Viper 3. Reap The Whirlwind 4. One More Shot At Glory 5. Hymn 66 6. The Sinner Rides Again 7. Keeper Of The Graves 8. ✨OC Awards✨
There was an open tag for this by @athenswrites, so I'll pass out some awards to the Dysthanasia characters. (Vess, Ankaris, Fior, and the rest of the strangers/mind worms from Beyond & Between don't get any--it'll just encourage their behavior.)
Original post and list of questions here. [x]
Best Supporting Side Character: Cpl. Christina Yi
She didn't sign up to have her worldview blown to pieces or be branded a traitor by the Coven. But when they happen she doesn't abandon what she feels is right just to save her own ass.
Whiniest Bitch: Sgt. Areli Zamora
She's the type who wanted a badge and gun to feel bigger than other people. Without those...eh, well, she's still pretty dangerous actually.
Most Unhealthy Ways to Deal with Trauma: Renato Faria Dimas
Parents drowned on a rescue attempt at sea? *becomes vampiric enforcer for a secret society* Cognitive dissonance over what the Coven really does? *cues toxic relationship with first girlfriend* Oh, attacked and tortured an innocent human? *drags said human into plot to overthrow Coven leadership and recklessly flirts with him along the way*
Lost a Parent the Youngest: Isaac Soto
His mom died when he was two in one of the epidemics that are still prone to rip through the Central States. He'll thank you to wear a mask and shove your anti-vaccine conspiracy bullshit.
OC Magazine's Sexiest Character Alive: Ben Zebrowski
The first researcher to report on an unregistered bloodborn named Benjamin Zebrowski in 1934 was eventually pulled off the case. He was reprimanded and cited as having "lost academic objectivity" (i.e. had sexy adventures) and being "morally corrupted" (caught The Gay). After the Coven had to write up the next two men put on the assignment for the same reasons, they resorted to drastic measures: they sent in a woman researcher (gasp). Not just any woman, but one they described as "a spinster", "homely", and "frigid" (yikes). Ben disagreed with those views and proved bisexuality was a thing at the same time. Researchers have been banned from approaching him since 1953. (Spoiler: Some still do anyway.)
Best Fight Sequence: Renato and Melusine
Won't happen until after "Phagophobia", but...Renato fights a mermaid. It's everything his nightmares are made of.
Outstanding Plot Fucker-Upper: Sgt. Alan Curry
Mistakes are made. No spoilers.
Best Monologue: Cassius Mergus
I haven't even written one for him yet, but I already know the award goes to this bastard.
Most Tragic On Screen/Off Screen Death: Jacob Hawthorne
It's a long ways off. Suffice to say, he's among the first awful sacrifices his big sister Isabel makes to gain power.
Best Kiss: Isaac and Renato
Also a ways off. But the path to get there is what makes the payoff satisfying, I think.
Most Sympathetic Villain: Oleander "Ollie" Blume
She was a trans girl rescued from an apocalyptic cult and adopted by Mergus. Mergus, who wound up using the loyalty and gratitude she felt to twist her into a pawn when she grew up. So she's bound to have a few Issues™.
Best Costume Design: Dorian St-Ange
They could be in the middle of a desert at noon, treading water at sea, or standing on the surface of the sun and they'd be bundled up and looking cute in a coat or jacket like the nonbinary icon they are.
Best Playlist: Kinslayer
Emotions are their bread and butter. If you want to be caught crying in the club or run straight into a wall because a song's so good, they've got you covered.
Luckiest Goldfish Ever: Tesoro
They started life as a mere carnival goldfish. A prize to be given to whoever could toss three rings on a bottle. They could have wound up perishing in the clutches of someone uncaring or too young to be responsible for them, flushed down a toilet in an ignoble send off. Instead, they were won by a trans vampire enforcer for his trans vampire enforcer girlfriend. True, the couple got into a shouting match at home and broke up that night. Custody of the new fish went to Renato by default. He bought a fancy aquarium and the whole nine yards purely to spite Ollie. And wound up falling in love instead.
Now, Tes lives in a 125 gallon tank, complete with guppies and a pleco for friends, live water plants, a mini castle, and is guarded by a spectral force who communicates through sticky notes. A true finny fairytale.
Zero obligation tags @thecyrulik @whumpy-writings @whumpsday @the-blind-one-speaks @arigalefantasynovels and anyone else who wants to do this and share their answers with me. :D

I produced an EP that dropped today called “Bayou City Comeback Chorus”.
‘Bayou City Comeback Chorus’ is a social justice album and short film featuring the voices and musicianship of many different artists from and around the Houston area. The music is influenced by psychedelic funk, gospel, and jazz. It was written with the intent to connect and inspire.
In early 2020, singer/producer Kam Franklin hosted a public jam to connect local artists and audition vocalists and musicians for the initial version of the project (a live record featuring a choir made up of marginalized voices from around the community). She did this not knowing it would be her final public event and opportunity to do so due to Covid-19 shutting everything down. This documentary covers the year following the initial jam session, the struggle to record the album in quarantine, interviews with some of the singers and contributors to the record, and the final result of all that hard work, despite the many obstacles.
The album features appearances from Dende, Uncle Tino, Sugar Joiko, Lilly Aviana, Z'maji, Nick Connors, Ryan Ramirez. It was mastered by Chris Longwood (Khruangbin) and mixed by Raymond Auzenne (Mannie Fresh), and edited by Nick Zamora (The Suffers). All songs were written, arranged and produced by Kam Franklin (The Suffers/Azraq). This project was partially funded by the Houston Arts Alliance.
I had the absolute honor of producing these songs for some  of my favorite up and coming singers around the Houston area. All of them are incredible solo performers in their own right, and I am grateful to them for allowing me to share their voices in a whole new way.
Working on this EP has brought me a level of creative joy and release that cannot fully be described. Initially, I just wanted a way to share these songs to the masses in hope that they might bring someone else comfort. The initial idea for “Be The Light” was written after the death of Atatiana Jefferson. Her death haunted me for months, and writing this song served as a therapy for me. I wanted people to know what it felt like to be a black person, terrified to sleep at night because of what the police might do. And while it may have been easy for me to focus the entire project on trauma, I refused to do that. I instead chose to focus the remaining 3 songs (‘Stronger Together’, ‘Bring It On’, and ‘We Can All Be Free’) on the EP around healing, possible solutions to fixing the problems we collectively endure as a society, and pathways to personal freedom and unity. We as people deserve healing, and it starts by claiming it.
Songs:
Be The Light featuring Nick Connors:
Stronger Together featuring Dende
Bring It On featuring Z’Maji
We Can All Be Free featuring Sugar Joiko and Lilly Aviana

Hey, I was wondering if you have a book rec
!!
Okay so in full disclosure, I have a really hard time reading books. My brain sometime around six years ago just decided that wasn't its style anymore, so I don't read a TON. A lot of these aren’t going to be recent releases. However, here are a bunch of books I would absolutely recommend checking out! I tried to include a variety of genres but I have uh.....five bookshelves in my apartment so if you're looking for more of a certain genre let me know!
Theatre:
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead - Tom Stoppard
Waiting for Godot - Samuel Beckett
These are my two favorite plays - they're both absurdist, humorous, and have some fun things to say. They’re both by old white guys but like....I love both Tom Stoppard and Samuel Beckett DEEPLY and they have all of my love and respect.
Non-Fiction/Educational:
Why are all the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria by Beverly Daniel Tatum - this is considered a 'classic' on the psychology of racism, and was particularly helpful for me as a white person in arming myself against 'reverse racism' thoughts and in dissembling my own prejudices. This is mostly a rec for other white folks, but Tatum also addresses 'having the courage to sit at the black table' as a way of claiming your own identity outside of the stereotypes the dominant society expects of you.
Daring Greatly by Brene Brown - Okay listen I just really REALLY love Brene Brown, she is a therapist most famous for her TED talk about Vulnerability and this is just...listen I really like to read this book when I am sad and feel like shit because it makes me feel strong. I reread this book at least once a year.
Imagined Communities by Benendict Anderson - This is an absolutely fascinating read on the rise of nationalism. It’s a bit dry and wordy, but the ideas and use of history as propaganda, spinning the story of a nation to pit it against or on the same side as other nations, and the ways in which these tactics shaped cultural history is just!!!! Amazing.
Gay New York by George Chauncey - This is just one of the most informative and interesting reads of queer history in New York that I’ve ever come across. It’s one of the ‘must reads’ of queer history and has so many interesting tidbits that I have to recommend it. It’s a bit old(published in 1994) but I still find it relevant and interesting to read.
Personal Fiction/Autobiographical Fiction
White Girls by Hilton Als - I went to a reading of this book when it first came out. It was so much fun and so eye-opening for me as a baby queer in NYC that I bought the book there. I wanna be really clear that Als does not pull punches and a lot of people don’t quite like it, but I love Als’ style of writing. The stories and essays in this book are amazing and funny and heartbreaking and informative of queer experience - particularly black queer experience - that I always feel like...honored? to experience through writing? This is one of those ‘you’re gonna suffer but you’re gonna be happy about it’ reads - it can be hard to face because of how very hard the pills are to swallow but like....gosh I just love this book and it’s interesting and hilarious and great.
Confessions of an Economic Hitman by John Perkins  - this is my tin hat favorite. It hits....ugh. This is one of those books that came out and like every government agency freaked the fuck out over it. It’s an interesting look into the quote-unquote dark underbelly of capitalism; how and why countries manipulate each other through economic policies. Super interesting read with a nice style of prose.
The Know-It-All: One Man's Humble Quest to become the Smartest Person in the World by A.J. Jacobs Okay so full disclosure I have not finished reading this, but I’m far enough through to rec it. This book chronicles the author’s attempt to read the entire Encyclopedia Brittanica from front to back, and it is just as kooky and hilarious as it sounds. I am very incredibly and deeply offended this author stole both my schtick and my initials, thereby preventing me from doing this exact thing. I read through the phone book in its entirety when I was three. I had it in me. Anyway, this is basically the author just listing weird interesting facts he’s read about and connecting them to his daily life, but it’s a fun read, and you learn a lot of totally useless facts, which is absolutely my jam.
When Skatboards Will Be Free by Saïd Sayrafiezadeh - HI I LOVE THIS BOOK. I’ve read it maybe three times over. It’s so fun and interesting. You may notice that a lot of the books I rec are very absurdist in their humor, and this is no exception. This book is full of the dry wit and just weird goddamn shit you could only expect from the child of a revolution that never came. You want to read a book about someone who Went Through Shit? Read this book. It’s funny and heartbreaking and just. AHHHH. Seriously I cannot recommend this enough.
Hyperbole and a Half by Allie Brosch - FIGHT ME ON THIS. I love this book.....so much. Yes it’s technically a comic book but the stories are so INTERESTING and hilarious and full of exactly the dry absurdist humor I eat the fuck up. Also! Allie Brosch recently released a sequel of sorts called Solutions and Other Problems that I recommend without even reading it.
Poetry
Pansy by Andrea Gibson - IF YOU ARE NOT READING THE POETRY OF ANDREA GIBSON WHAT ARE YOU EVEN DOING WITH YOUR LIFE. I cried seven times reading this book. There are only like 14 poems. Please please read this to break your own queer heart :)
Bloodsport by Yves Olade - This is a tiny book full of absolutely devastating poetry. Most of it has to do with the grief of relationships, but like....gosh I love all of Olade’s stuff. (Also!! This is available as a pay-what-you-wish pdf!!)
Bright Dead Things by Ada Limón - This book focuses a lot on the author’s experiences of loss, and knowing that loss is going to happen. I’m completely devastated every time I read this.
Science Fiction/Fantasy
The Bartimeaus Sequence by Jonathan Stroud - So what if I am a dumb millennial I love this series. It’s another dry and deadpan humor, with weird additions and Stroud’s use of footnotes to absolutely crack me the fuck up means I gotta rec this. I just gotta. Four(I think?) books following the deeply unlikeable Nathaniel and his Djinn Bartimaeus, who just wants to eat humans and have a deeply enjoyable enemies to lovers plotline with his arch rival.
The Magic's Price Trilogy by Mercedes Lackey - Okay I know I’ve recced this before. I will rec it again. This was the very first series I ever read that featured a gay protagonist and I was. Devastated? Reformed? I latched onto Vanyel Ashkevron and I am never letting this depressed emo boy go. Try me, I bite. Seriously, this book was released in the 80s and yet it is still relevant, I still cry - god i LOVE this series SO MUCH. And, MERCEDES LACKEY actually invented unbury your gays, sorry I make the rule on that one. :) Also there are magic talking horses??????? Seriously please read this series I love it so much.
Fire Bringer & The Sight by David Clement-Davies - This is another series that was absolutely formative in my baby lexicon. These are books about magical animals and their inner societal workings and both books address the ideas of good, evil, darkness, compassion and good will, and destiny. I am obsessed with these books, they are some of the most interesting of the genre I’ve read, and so incredibly intricately written. LOVE these books.
Vampire Earth Series by E. E. Knight - The Witcher before it was cool. Sort of but like...there are schools of Cat, Bear, etc and it has COOL VAMPIRES I LOVE THSI SERIES. Basically, earth has been taken over by a race of alien ‘Vampires’ and follows a human involved in the resistance. The writing in this series is...wow. It’s so intricate and interesting and involved. I own the whole series because I love it so much, including the after-series hardback novels. I’m so messy and I love it.
Kindred by Octavia Butler - You know how people are like ‘YOU SHOULD READ OCTAVIA BUTLER!!’ ? You should absolutely do that. This novel is mindblowing and interesting and the pace and narrative are so so so interesting. Heartbreaking, god, horrific. Butler is an amazing writer and this novel, while my personal favorite, is not by any means the only of her books I would recommend. STORIES. STORIES!!!!!!!
Fiction
The Ballad of Barnabas Pierkiel: A Novel by Magdalena Zyzak - This book is so fucking good. It’s imaginative, funny, intelligent....it’s honestly one of the best fiction novels I’ve ever read. Again, dry, absurdist humor, this book sort of reminds me of Terry Pratchett’s style of writing.
The Call of the Wild by Jack London - This is a classic, a true classic. The social commentary of this book is so so good, London’s style flows and, personally, as a dog and animal expert, the anthropomorphisation of Buck and his fellow animals is just so well done. I love this book, it’s quite an easy read, and I reread it at least once a year.
Rolling the R's by R. Zamora Linmark - Okay. Okay okay!!!!!! I gotta take a deep breath about this one. This book is. Yuh. This is a bit younger leaning than the other fictions, focusing almost entirely on high school level characters, however the experiences and commentary is just so so good. Focusing on a diverse group of characters growing up in Hawaii in the 1970′s, this book addresses the intersectionalities of gender, sexuality, race, immigration, education, and how we define who we are. I’m obsessed.
A Separate Peace by John Knowles - A heartbreaking novel about war, innocence, adolescence, and how we hide from our truths. It’s...so good, this book hurts me a LOT okay. The prose is phenomenal, the story is poignant, and it feels like I’m ripping my own heart out with a fishhook every time I finish it.
The Toss of a Lemon by Padma Viswanathan - This is one of those books I half recommend because it’s so good, and half because of the deep wealth of knowledge it presents the reader. The author’s use of her own culture is just....goddddddddd. Intricate and interesting and so delicately included in the narrative that you can feel the love the author has for it. It’s a long read and it took me almost a month to get through reading every day, but god. It’s so soft and amazingly written I both wanted to read it all at once and take my time with it. This is another one that deals with the duality of humanity and how we connect with one another. Ahhhhhhhhh!!!!
P.S. Your Cat Is Dead by James Kirkwood Jr. - I love this book I love this book I LOVE THIS BOOK. It’s fucking hilarious, entertaining, I literally laughed out loud at every single chapter. Hilarious and poignant and surprisingly deep, this book literally follows the journey of a man in which literally everything that could go wrong does. It’s fucking hilarious.
I hope that helped and gave you some new books!!! <3
