from the river to the sea, palestine will be free 🇵🇸 READ: this account stands with palestine, and so— i require everyone who interacts to educate themselves, and support/donate before reading. READ THESE; 1 and 2, HELP HERE, BOYCOTT. silence is complicity, do not scroll past this. DO NOT BUY THE REMASTER, TLOU2, TLOU1, OR ANY GAME FROM NAUGHTY DOG! neil druckmann (the creator) is a zionist. PLEASE READ THIS. AND REBLOG THIS.
jackson!ellie who makes the first move? kiss–wise. cause okay— we've got the scene from the actual game where dina locks in that first kiss, a drunken whim, and whatnot, but what about ellie doing so? allow me to conjure a picture up; that freckled, mellow–eyed portrait leveled to your face, her lips pinched to a demure crease— tense enough on the corners to hollow her dimples, the fat auburn worms above her eyes tweaking alongside a nod to your wisping words that enlighten her very eager brain right now, arms slack to wrap your waist and frisky warm upon the sacral of your spine with palms overlaid, waddling in a legato and sluggish manner to each pace of song. your lips are consistently ashift, lacing over every honeyed vowel that kept this silly little girl christened ellie— too attentive. eyes unto your lips, pupils enlarge and bedim all color to her organ–throbbing crush on you, a feeling, fennels and columbines a manifestation inside her flattered eyes watching you speak, "y'know, i just think that everybody on patrol is a dumb cunt, n' can't shoot for shit. maria needs to reassign." and, my. how words of curses and a rigid, shit–talking nature blow from your throat like a damn aria, on and on rambling, contract some balled sensation in ellie's gut to burst open a thousand angels serenading— their feathers a silken uncomfortableness in her guts. how it pushed her, made her spine shiver, made her face slowly tilt in, made her brows flinch sunken into the sea of her skin, and a little voice compelled her when you spoke, "totally should assign you and i—" mmmph. two mouths sealed as one. ellie, who was already a magnet, reached voice to voice and consumed the trails of your speech, flesh chapped yet somewhat plump and velvety of a 'sorry' she could not push into vocals rolled over the knoll of yours, pursing her top lip inside as her mouth steals your bottom one, an ample pressure on your inner–cheek that smushes her cute button nose as it pokes, and releases when she departs your consumption of that sudden kiss. her face lingers, still slanted, eyes darting across your face maddenly for any ounce of a reaction written in flesh, unsure on whether to sanction you some breathing room or to mention boldly about it— but you're too damn pretty to fleet away, so she decides to act somewhere balanced upon that spectrum gently, "did i do okay?" not 'was that okay?' nor 'fuck, m'sorry.' but those foolproof words, yet the look of a lost puppy was most pitiful on her features. you chuckle dry, and her palms flock to your waist— gripping, narrowing the answer out of you so timid, you have to chuckle the reply out as well, "more than okay," and you soften, bored of the blurry, obnoxious string lights a mere background to her big head, "very okay, williams." and shut the scene to nothing, pulling her rosy heat on your lips, once more.
sorry gays, idk what came over me. fluffy hours

Saskia Reeves Breaks Down Jackson Lamb’s Shocking Betrayal
TheWrap: At first, Catherine is very touched that Lamb has come to her rescue. And then he tells her that her late boss was a traitor who was setting her up to take the fall for him. That’s a huge, huge betrayal.
Saskia Reeves: Yeah. It’s a shocking moment for her. Which is why I think she says, if you don’t mind my French, “F,U. Jackson Lamb, f—k the lot of you.” I think she’s just had it, that’s it. She’s had enough. And Catherine never swears. Jackson Lamb swears all the time, but she never swears. So that was quite a big thing for her to do that.
So of all the things that Lamb says to Catherine, what do you think was the most hurtful?
That Charles was only keeping her close because she was a drunk. [Lamb] helped her go to rehab. He helped her, she thought, recover. And I think after Charles Partner was killed, or when he committed suicide, as she thinks, she fell off the wagon a few times.
Lamb tells her, doesn’t he, in the end of Season 1 that he gave Charles Partner the gun. But she always blamed herself for his death. And she falls off the wagon, and then gets back on it because otherwise she’d probably kill herself.
And that’s when Lamb picks her up and says, “Okay, I’m going to offer you a job.” I imagine her self-esteem is very low. It’s a job that she can do incredibly well. She hasn’t sunk to the bottom like all the other [agents in Slough House].
She really gets a chance to shine this season as she gains the trust of her kidnappers and mines them for information.
I don’t know if anybody would have quite approached it the way she did. Knowing what she knows, and getting sort of caught up in their emotional reason why they need the information that they need. You have to remember she’s not a spy. She’s a secretary, a very, very good secretary.
Do you think Lamb is actually fond of her?
Yes. They’ve been part of MI5 since before the [Berlin] wall came down, they’ve been through so much together. They know the same people from before. And they’re both more analog than digital. She knows [he used to be an] exemplary member of MI5. And he knows her to be an incredibly experienced supporter of the head of MI5. I think he respects her, but he’s also a frightful bully and, and in some areas, a coward who doesn’t want to face his own alcoholism.
So he pushes her, he keeps pushing her to see how far she’ll go, to test her. I think she interprets that as, “He’s trying to break me. He’s trying to push me off the wagon, and I refuse to be pushed off the wagon.” And the longer she stays sober, the stronger she gets. And I love how strong she is. She’s very smart. And she’s kind but she’s f—ked up. Which is what holds them all together, isn’t it?
He has one one big secret left: As the viewers already know, he was the one who killed Charles.
Right. That hasn’t come out yet. Which is why when she asks him, “Do we kill our own?,” she’s not aware of how close she is to the truth.
I haven’t read the books but I assume that does come out at some point.
It does come out, but I can’t remember which book it happens in. I’ve read them all a few times.
Actually, it’s a conversation I want to have with the showrunner Will Smith. What are we going to do with this piece of humming knowledge, this thing that won’t go away? This thing that Jackson did, but he did it under the umbrella of David Cartwright (Jonathan Pryce). And that relationship will be unfolded in Season 4.
We get a few glimpses of Catherine in the Season 4 teaser trailer. Will we see her back at Slough House?
I can’t say anything!

The Best Album Per Year for Sixty Years
Tumblr media
No-one asked for it, of course, but I do like making lists, so here's me pondering what have been the best Long Players in the album artform the past 60 years. I originally tried to keep it to just one per year, but many years that proved impossible: when listing multiple albums I have tried ranking them with the one I feel narrowly edges out the others first, and I use lower case to indicate an album that is not at the same level as others on the list but was the best I've heard from that time.
Feel free to have fun with the list and make up your own.

Chilly Scenes of Winter by Ann Beattie
Some comic books
I believe this is approximately everything lol.
My dream is to have a small cozy rooms dedicated to the books I own. It won't happen any time soon.

Rating: 4/5
Book Blurb: A glitzy YA thriller set in New York City elite social circles, filled with backstabbing and blackmail, twisty secrets, and a dead body, from New York Times bestselling author Jessica Goodman. Perfect for fans of Euphoria, Holly Jackson, and Jessica Knoll. Old money. New secrets. One killer party. Scoring an invitation for membership to the exclusive Legacy Club in New York City is more than an honor. It gives you a lifetime of access to power and wealth beyond any prep school doors and guaranteed safety and security as Legacy Club members always look out for their own. That is, after you make it through a rigorous week of events and the extravagant gala, the Legacy Ball. So it’s not surprising when Excelsior Prep seniors Bernie Kaplan, Isobel Rothcroft, and Skyler Hawkins are nominated as Legacies; their family pedigrees have assured their membership since birth—even if they're all keeping secrets that could destroy their reputations. But scholarship kid from Queens Tori Tasso? She’s a surprise nominee, someone no one saw coming. Tori’s never fit in this world of designer bags, penthouse apartments, and million-dollar donations. So what did she do to secure her place? The night of the Legacy Ball is supposed to be the best night of these seniors’ lives, a night of haute couture, endless champagne, and plenty of hushed gossip. Everyone expects a night of luxury and excess. No one expects their secrets to come out. Or for someone to die trying to keep them hidden.
Review:
A elite society, secrets, betrayal, and more. You can only get a membership at the Legacy Club in New York City if you are invited and nominated.... it gives you a lifetime access to power, wealth, connections and so much more. Every year new members are picked at the Legacy Ball and the winner  receives money, not that they need it.... but this year’s ball ends with a dead body... time to figure out what happened. Students at Excelsior Prep are nominated as Legacies, their families pedigree assuring their membership since birth.... but these students: Bernie Kaplan, Isobel Rothcroft and Skyler Hawkins all have their own secrets that could destroy everything. Another nominee is the scholarship student Tori Tasso.... and she’s the surprise one, because no one from her “world” has been picked before and now she is dropped into a world of wealth and secrets. Each of these students has a secret, and each of them will be connected to one another and the dead body by the time the Legacy Ball is over... but who died and was it an accident or a murder? This was a fun read! I liked the mystery and I liked the cut from past and present. I really liked Bernie the most out of all the characters. Her main concern throughout the book is finding out where her mother disappeared and what happened to her, but her friends are all hiding secrets and everything she knew about her mother might be wrong. Overall, a really fun read if you like mysteries with an elite school/society setting!
*Thanks Netgalley and PENGUIN GROUP Penguin Young Readers Group, Razorbill for sending me an arc in exchange for an honest review*

Dark Academia Works Inspired by True Crime Cases?
Hello, all! I am looking for recommendations of Dark Academia works (novels, short stories, films, television series) based on true crime. I would be grateful for any suggestions for my list. Thank you!
I am intentionally casting my net widely, defining the Dark Academic genre (as opposed to the aesthetic) as one that focuses on an academic setting and educational experience, employs Gothic modes of storytelling, cultivates a dark mood by contemplating the subject of death, and offers critique for interrogating imbalances and abuses of power.*
Tumblr media
Below the cut is my current list of Dark Academia Works Inspired by True Crime Cases. All suggestions are welcome!
Dark Academia Works Inspired/Informed by True Crime Cases
Note 1: “True crime” is defined here as a specific case (for example, a murder or missing person’s case), not as a larger historical event (for example, the Salem Witch Trials or the Opium Wars) or an amalgam of cases (for example, general hazing in fraternities). Note 2: This list is in chronological order based on the true crime case. Note 3: Some works that aren't fully DA but incorporate DA sections are included.
TRUE CRIME: 1897 disappearance of student Bertha Mellish from Mount Holyoke College DA novels: The Button Field by Gail Husch (2014) Killingly by Katharine Beutner (2023)
TRUE CRIME: 1924 killing of Bobby Franks by University of Chicago students Nathan Leopold and Richard Loeb DA Novels: Compulsion by Meyer Levin (1956) Nothing but the Night by James Yaffe (1957) Little Brother Fate by Mary-Carter Roberts (1957) These Violent Delights by Micah Nemerever (2020) Hollow Fires by Samira Ahmed (2022) Jazzed by Jill Dearman (2022) DA films: Rope (1948), Compulsion (1959), and Murder by Numbers (2002)
TRUE CRIME: 1932 kidnapping and killing of Charles Lindbergh, Jr.; 1933 kidnapping and killing of Brooke Hart; and 1932-1934 crime spree of Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow DA novels: Truly Devious books by Maureen Johnson (especially the first trilogy, 2018-2020)
TRUE CRIME: 1944 killing of David Kammerer by Columbia University student Lucien Carr DA film: Kill Your Darlings (2013)
TRUE CRIME: 1946 disappearance of student Paula Jean Welden from Bennington College DA novels: Hangsaman by Shirley Jackson (1951) Last Seen Wearing by Hillary Waugh (1952) The Secret History by Donna Tartt (1992) Shirley by Susan Scarf Merrell (2014) Quantum Girl Theory by Erin Kate Ryan (2022)
TRUE CRIME: 1973 killing of student Cynthia Hellman at Randolph-Macon Women’s College DA novel: Good Girls Lie by J.T. Ellison (2019)
TRUE CRIME: 1978 killing of students Margaret Bowman and Lisa Levy and attack of students Kathy Kleiner and Karen Chandler by Ted Bundy at Florida State University DA novel: Bright Young Women by Jessica Knoll (2023)
TRUE CRIME: 1985 killing of Derek and Nancy Haysom by University of Virginia students Elizabeth Haysom and Jens Söring DA novel: With a Kiss We Die by L.R. Dorn (2023)
TRUE CRIME: 1999 killing of student Hae Min Lee from Woodlawn High School (by Adnan Syed? debated) DA novel: I Have Some Questions for You by Rebecca Makkai (2023)
TRUE CRIME: 2022 killing of students Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin from the University of Idaho (by Washington State University student Bryan Kohberger? currently awaiting trial) DA novel: This Book Will Bury Me by Ashley Winstead (2025)
*(I go into this definition in further detail in my segment here on the StarShipSofa podcast, my graduate course on Dark Academia, and my 2023 academic essay "Dark Arts and Secret Histories: Investigating Dark Academia.")

books read in September
In September I was able to get so much reading done. 10 books yet most of them were for uni. I will give my thoughts mostly to my personal reads but I will add the uni reads too, who knows maybe you are interested in sexuality in ancient Greece and Rome.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
read
Unlearn Patriarchy 2 by various authors
Started the month strong with a 5 star read. I listened to the first part as an audiobook and really enjoyed it, so I obviously had to get my hands on the second part. One again there are various authors talking about various topics: law, finances and disability, just to mention some. These were topics where I could already see how patriarchy is represented in the society and how an why this could/has developed through time. It was interesting to learn and see new views, that helped me reflect on myself. But when I started the chapter about architecture, I am not gonna lie, my first thought after the introduction was “ok, but mayyyybe we are getting a little too far into fuck the patriarchy here”. Surprisingly no. There is no “too far” of unlearning patriarchy, when it benefits just a handful of people and disadvantages so many more.
It is a really nice and easy read to see what and where the problems are in our (yet mostly German focused) society.
Lysistrate by Aristophanes
This was a uni read, but it was the only one that I had to read that I actually enjoyed. It’s a play in which women go into a sex strike to force their men to find a solution to the war that is going on. It has some funny moments and it is easy to read. Besides that it really shows the power dynamic between women and men, which makes it sad because we still have this power structure going on OVER 2000 YEARS LATER. In my opinion I’d like someone else more if they told me that they read Lysistrate rather than Homer’s Odyssey or Iliad.
Bright Young Women by Jessica Knoll
This. Was. Amazing. I was hooked from start to finish. It does a great job in portraying how it is to be a women. Surely, the time it takes place is a different one, but I could see myself in the main character represented. It shows how journalism can fail someone, because they are focusing at the wrong topics, as well as the failure of police work. 4.75 stars.
Kosoko Jackson’s The Forest Demands Its Due
I think that I am just so done with “I am just an ordinary person, so why ME?” fantasy books. I read way too many of these books when I was a teen and YA. Surely, mostly of them were about white 17y/o girls, so I am happy that we are getting more books with queer and/or bipoc people as the main character. Yet the trope stays the same. If you aren’t fed up with this trope yet I’d still recommend it to you. Especially now at this time of season I’d say it’s a great read ! 3.75 stars for me, but objectively it’s a 4 star.
Love Letters to a Serial Killer by Tasha Coryell
This one is tough. I enjoyed reading it, but only because I read most of it as a satire. You can’t convince me that THIS is supposed to be a thriller. The main character doesn’t use her brain. AT ALL. She sees the read flags, recognizes them and still decides to do nothing. Also the plot twist was predictable and what happened at the last few pages throw me completely off. 2.5 stars.
uni reads
Catull’s Carmilla: various poems about sexuality, love, sex
Platon’s Symposion: various people (mostly men) talking about the meaning of Eros
I read a book of essays by Chrostoph Horn that are about Platon’s Symposion
Hippolytos by Euripides
Apuleius’ Metamorphose: I hated to read it. The whole time I complained to my bf about it. So many adventures that are not linked to another. Slow pace. Thou, I can recommend the Armor and Psyche tale which is told.
current reads
The End of Alice by A.M Homes
This is disgusting to read. It reminds of Lolita, but the author does such a great job to make it so uncomfortable to read that I had to take breaks, because I couldn’t believe what my eyes just read.
dnfed
Complete collection of E.A. Poe
It’s good to read Poe’s works one at a time and not one after another. So I don’t know if I can really say that I dnfed it or rather paused it. Because I do enjoyed them, but I am not that kind of person who likes to get in and out of short stories so quickly. It destroys the dark, creepy feeling one gets while reading it.

What was at the heart of [Housman's] writing, at any rate to begin with, was an unrequited passion for a fellow Oxford undergraduate Moses Jackson, a thoroughly straightforward unreflective young man, who, if he was ever aware of Housman's affection, chose that it should never be made specific. In a less single-minded character than Housman's such a passion might be expected to pass and be replaced by other, perhaps happier affections, and insofar as Housman became friendly with Jackson's younger brother it may have done so. But the brother died, and Housman was left with these affections, and the memory of them, all his life. Jackson went off to India, became principal of a teacher training college there and then took a similar post in Canada. A Shropshire Lad is dedicated to him, but when asked what was the occasion for the poems, Housman said it was a period of mild ill health, a prolonged sore throat.
Shake hands, we shall never be friends, all's over; I only vex you the more I try. All's wrong that ever I've done or said, And nought to help it in this dull head: Shake hands, here's luck, good-bye. But if you come to a road where danger Or guilt or anguish or shame's to share, Be good to the lad that loves you true And the soul that was born to die for you And whistle and I'll be there.
More Poems, XXX
In the years that followed the two friends met from time to time and Housman wrote regularly, but in the words of Auden's poem A Shilling Life, Jackson "answered some of his long, marvelous letters, but kept none."
Because I liked you better Than suits a man to say, It Irked you, and I promised To throw the thought away. To put the world between us We parted, stiff and dry; 'Good-bye', said you, 'forget me.' 'I will, no fear', said I. If here, where clover whitens The dead man's knoll you pass, And no tall flower to meet you Starts in the trefoiled grass Halt by the headstone naming The heart no longer stirred And say the lad that loved you Was one that kept his word.
More Poems, XXXI
