What's your favorite shapeshifter character beside martian manhunter and ma'alefa'ak
Hmm! Come to think of it, I'm usually pretty indifferent to shapeshifter characters? Mostly because shapeshifters tend to be gimmicky or tropey in their characterization. They're usually deceptive, tricksters, or mischievous in a way that feels one note to me.
I think the reason I like J'onn (and Ma'alefa'ak) is that he's more than a shapeshifter. And when he does shapeshift, he lives out his identities fully. Carl Lumbly said it so nicely: "I felt that there was a responsibility in shapeshifting. Of doing honor to what you're representing. Shapeshifting is one thing, taking over someone's spirit is another. He didn't tamper, he left things intact. Like a guest that will be gone." it's neat how martians are empathetic shapeshifters that way :)
#askjesncin#martian manhunter#for reference my least fav shapeshifter is double trouble from she-ra#they represent everything I'm tired of which includes shapeshifters getting lazily labelled genderqueer/fluid#j'onn hits different truly

Something about dc glass canons just hit different.
Dc has a lot of tank characters. The heavy hitters. The overpowered pseudo gods. I'm talking your average Kryptonian, Amazonian, Atlantean or Martian. A tank character in dc usually has super strength and a very high durability, if not complete invulnerability. Starfire and Cyborg, for example, would be considered tanks because of how durable, strong and powerful they are, despite the fact that they aren't invulnerable.
There are a lot of tank characters in dc. Classic tanks for the Teen Titans are Donna, Garth, Vic and Kori. For Young Justice, the tank characters are Cassie and Kon. In the Justice League they'd be Clark, Diana, Arthur, J'onn, Kendra/Shayera, Billy, ect. I could literally list tank characters all day. There are so many of them.
I find that tanks can get a little old, fast. There isn't a whole lot you can do with a tank character, especially not with dc tanks. They're all basically gods so there aren't a whole lot of stakes in your stories. Usually these tanks have a fatal weakness to make them more interesting and to insert stakes back into the story but even with those they can get dull. Dc tanks tend to have a heart of gold and they don't tend to mess around with morality much. These are powerful characters and with that much power it becomes scary if they are anything less than a boy scout. Of course there are exceptions, like when dc wants their characters to be edgy (cough cough Arthur and Diana) but typically the tanks are fairly cut and dry morality wise and very palatable.
Then there are dc's 'just some guy's. There's a lot of these as well. These are your typical 'no powers' heroes like Batman, Green Arrow, Nightwing, Red Arrow and Robin. There are a lot of these guys. Now the 'just some guy's are allowed to be very complex characters with a wide range of morality. In fact, they're encouraged to do so because they're supposed to be relatable to the audience. The tanks are gods to be admired, bastions of peace, hope and justice, but the 'just some guy's? They are just people. For that reason they can be incredibly compelling and interesting characters but they lose a lot of points when it comes to fights. Because of the power scaling in DC, these characters are either unable to do anything above street level or they have an insane amount of plot conveniences that allow them to somehow win (Batman with his prep time or Batman with his bottomless utility belt or, well, really Batman with anything)
But where dc really hits it out of the park? Their best and most compelling characters (in my opinion)??? The glass canons. A glass canon, for those unfamiliar, is a character who can deal a massive amount of damage but who goes down with one hit. All the power of the tank and all the vulnerability of the 'just some guy'. Not a god, not a man but perpetually in-between.
Classic DC glass canons would be Wally, Raven and Gar (depending) for the Teen Titans, Bart for Young Justice, Barry/Wally, Hal/John/Guy/Kyle/Jess/Simon/Jo, Zatanna and Black Canary (depending). Basically any speedster, Green Lantern or magic user would fit the bill. Some metas as well depending on power levels. Gar and Dinah are tricky because to truly be a glass canon you have to have an insane amount of power and around normal human durability. So it really depends on their characterization.
Dc's glass canons are so much fun. They're allowed to be human! By god do they fuck up and mess around and make mistakes. They try their best to be good but it's not an inherent quality like the tanks. They're powerful enough to be cocky but mortal enough that they're extremely vulnerable at all times. Take Bart for example. That little dude could rewrite reality if he wanted to. He could take out an army before they could blink. He could hop across the multiverse in an instant. He'd also collapse if you hit him over the head with a chair.
It's just such a fun dynamic??? The stakes are real. One bullet could take your hero out and yet they still face down gunfire everyday. They have the powers of gods and yet they are extremely human and flawed. It's a fight between holding back and being human and letting loose and becoming the thing they fear.
I just find the glass canon to be such a compelling character archetype. This character could singlehandedly take down a country if they wanted to but also they just got a paper cut while trying to do their taxes.

The Good and the Bad: Arrow 8x09 Review (Green Arrow & the Canaries)
Arrow did another backdoor pilot for the spin-off even though 7x16 felt like one,
but it’s clear from this episode things have been… retooled.
Not always for the better. I liked Green Arrow and The Canaries more than I disliked it, but I’m an easy sell. If Olicity’s progeny are available via my television then I’m watching. Period. End of discussion.
There’s good content for the writers to mine, but there’s definitely some kinks to work out.
Doing things a little different with this review. Yes, I can change.
It didn’t feel like a fully fleshed out episode and I have a feeling we’ll be repeating this pilot in some form if Green Arrow and The Canaries is greenlit, so for now we’ll just hit the highlights – the good and the bad.
Let’s dig in…
What I Loved
This is the first episode immediately after Crisis, so we don’t entirely know how the present day is impacted, but the future certainly is bright. Mia and William have grown up in an almost paradise. Star City is the safest city in the country. There’s been no crime for almost twenty years and it’s all thanks to the city’s hero – Oliver Queen.
Source: feilcityqueen
It’s nice to see Oliver being honored years later by the ungrateful twats of Star City. They are slightly less ungrateful in my eyes. However, it’s even more wonderful to see that Oliver’s children grew up safe, protected, and maybe even a little pampered. It’s everything he wanted for them.
The big stick with this carrot of course is Oliver not being able to raise William and Mia.
Mia Smoak is the princess we were promised and she is ready to ascend the throne. I loved everything about her character.
Source: kathmcnamara
The alternate timeline/universe (?) has softened Mia. There’s no anger. No dark and twisty past. No hatred of vigilantes. No resentment over lies and betrayals.
Mia knows her father was a hero, but she hasn’t grown up hiding out in a cabin with Felicity. Instead she grew up with William in the Queen Mansion (where she currently resides). On the surface, Mia’s life has been pretty friggin perfect, even if she’s a little adrift. That said, the Grand Canyon sized hole in her life is that her dad is gone.
Source: oliverxfelicity
Mia blissfully wakes
Source: kathmcnamara
and is proposed to by… JJ DIGGLE!
Source: kathmcnamara
We have a scantily clad naked Diggle boy and he’s already dropping down on one knee. This show is my crack.
This also means JJ Diggle isn’t evil! Plot twist!! Dun dun DUNNN!!!
Source: kathmcnamara
Mia says yes after a brief hesitation and the DIGGLE BROTHER LOVE TRIANGLE HAS COMMENCED. I know I’m the only person who wants this love triangle, but I don’t care.
JJ is the “good” brother and Connor isn’t “evil” but he seems like a colossal screw up with questionable facial hair.
But also maybe I like the facial hair?
It’s clear he has an adversarial relationship with Mia, but so many romances have been born from loathing. Enemies to lovers is a classic trope. I’m all in.
Of course, we’re supposed to expect Connor in Mia’s bed since the Season 7 flash forwards more than hinted at a brewing romance between the two,
but instead it is JJ. A plot twist the Olicity fandom called ages ago.
John Jr. is new and improved though. There isn’t much to dislike about this version of him. He’s kind, sweet, sexy, attentive and pulling out expensive jewelry in the first five minutes. What’s not to love? There’s a smol and tol aesthetic happening too. Everyone knows that’s my shipping jam.
Things immediately get rocky though (pun intended). First, JJ gives Mia the Queen family engagement ring.
Source: arrowdaily
Mia makes a point of saying it was her mother’s which gives me the feels.
I never had the same issues with Moira’s engagement ring others did, but even I can recognize there’s some bad juju in it
Next, Mia gets her memories back (more on THAT later) and officially remembers her fiancé was a psychopathic killer who ran one of her friends through with the pointy end of a sword. It’s a little difficult to kiss JJ after that visual.
Things don’t get much easier after Mia accuses JJ of being the mastermind behind Bianca Bertinelli’s kidnapping. (Yes, she’s Helena’s daughter). He’s not the kidnapper. All his secrecy revolves around the honeymoon JJ is planning. It does lead to a truly hilarious moment between the two characters.
JJ: Jumping to conclusions is I’m cheating on you not that I’m a kidnapper. For the record, I’m neither.
It’s a heavy moment, but I died. It’s going to be a little hard to pick out cake now.
The scene itself is heartbreaking. Charlie and Kat acted their asses off in it too. JJ thinks Mia doesn’t want to marry him. She hesitated before accepting his proposal (Yes, he noticed that Mia. So did I). JJ believes Mia is commitment phobic. It’s not wildly unlike how Oliver’s story began. Thank God there’s no cheating with siblings though.
Mia is merely struggling with the idea that her fiancé was a cold blooded killer in another world. She just needs some time to… adjust. She’s also a little commitment phobic. After stopping the real bad guys, Mia reassures JJ, but she doesn’t tell him the truth about who she is.
Mia: I couldn't imagine spending my life with anyone else."
I see your not-so-subtle wink at SmoakNHawke writers. I AM SO HERE FOR THIS.
The truly awesome moment with JJ’s character is when he gets his memories back too. I was not expecting this and was genuinely surprised. Charlie Barnett is a PHENOMENAL actor. He played that scene perfectly.
Giving JJ his memories back is a stroke of genius because now he's a more complicated villain (I hope). He gets to struggle with his love for Mia and his loony tune desire to take over the city.
Katherine McNamara also does a fantastic job of blending the two versions of Mia after she gets her memories back.
Source: supercanaries
She’s reeling from the suffering and loss, but Mia is still our bad ass princess who takes no crap.
Source: oh-my-hades
She is still every bit the hero Oliver and Felicity raised her to be.
Source: feilcityqueen
She’s just a little more pragmatic. Her communication skills are much improved. One of the best moments of the episode is when she gets to show up L*urel with her “new” experience.
Source: supercanaries
Mia telling L*urel where to stick it was a long time coming. We had to wait twenty five minutes for it to happen, but it was GLORIOUS when it did.
Source: arrowversedaily
William is a perfect cupcake, excited to be Mia’s man of honor, but bummed his boyfriend cheated on him. We hate Kevin.
Source: arrowdaily
He encourages Mia to join Smoak Tech, but she’s not sold on joining Mama’s company. William running Felicity’s company fills me with a deep and abiding joy.
William Clayton-Harris-Smoak-Queen is perfection from start to finish.
Source: oliverxfelicity
The chemistry between Ben and Kat is so natural. William’s good natured teasing about their “family heirloom” exuded warmth and love.
Source: feilcityqueen
I adore how comfortable the two characters are now. Erasing William and Mia’s separation is the best thing to come out of Oliver’s Crisis retcon.
ZOE IS ALIVE because I said she would be and I like to get my way.
Source: oliverxfelicity
Din*h owns a bar (Thea’s old club) and lives in the apartment upstairs (Thea and Olicity’s old loft).
Source: canarynetwork
She woke up in the future after Oliver’s funeral and discovered she doesn’t exist in 2040. I’m only mildly curious about this. The bigger shock is Din*h is tolerable. She’s compassionate towards Mia and often serves as the peace maker between her and L*urel. She feels like an older and wiser Din*h Dr*ke. More like Season 5 Din*h, but not so angry.
Also, hello that voice? She can be like Lorne on Angel and randomly break out into show tunes. Juliana did a beautiful job.
E2 Oliver cheated on L*urel with Sara too. There is no universe where L*urel & Oliver end up together. Nobody hates L*uriver more than these writers.
What I Hated
L*urel. I hated everything about L*urel.
At first, I thought I was being too sensitive, but after a certain point it was clear she is just an asshole. L*urel being unbearable in Arrow pilots is a tradition apparently.
It starts with how Mia gets her memories back. There were some spoilers out on this, but I wasn’t entirely sure how it would play out onscreen and yeah… total dick move.
Source: supercanaries
L*urel destroys Mia’s life by forcing unbelievably painful memories on her without discussing it with her first. And for what? So, Mia can help L*urel find her kidnapped friend.
Even the newspaper article L*urel drops about the Green Arrow failing the city doesn’t excuse the way she gave Mia her memories back. I understand she is trying to convince Mia to be a superhero, but I feel a more effective approach would have been to sit down, grab a cup of coffee, offer the pros and cons of getting her memories back and then let MIA DECIDE.
Source: supercanaries
L*urel didn’t need to grab her from behind at her graduation/engagement party. It had the uncomfortable vibe of mind rape and no amount of “girl power” makes that okay.
Oh hey - if J'onn J'onzz from Superg*rl is going around and zapping people’s minds without clearing it with them first -
What was with L*urel insulting Mia every two seconds? UGH. Where is that damn bird baton?
There’s a fine line between snark and nasty. L*urel was just nasty.
L*urel decides Mia is a lazy, self absorbed, idiot because she’s not immediately jumping at the chance to be the Green Arrow. She literally blew this kid’s life apart, gives her no time to process, and immediately begins insulting her because she’s not following all of L*urel’s commands.
On what planet does L*urel have any authority over Mia's life?
They have a warm and fuzzy heart to heart about choosing to be a hero to smooth over L*urel’s wildly unpleasant personality, but it’s ludicrous. L*urel didn’t even rate a goodbye from Oliver. I find her suddenly being an expert on what Oliver would want for his daughter pretty tough to swallow.
This conversation should’ve been with William. PERIOD.
Source: oliverxfelicity
It’s insane L*urel is judging anyone about anything because SHE IS A MURDERER. But sure, being a socialite is the real crime. Thank goodness L*urel is here to stop all the shopping.
The show was desperate glaze over Bl*ck Sir*n’s history with bizarre explanations.
L*urel: I wasted a lot of time pretending to be something I wasn’t because it was easier.”
So, Bl*ck Sir*n was pretending to be a murderer because it was easier?
That’s not a thing. You don’t pretend to a murderer. You just are one.
Bl*ck Sir*n wasn’t like Oliver Queen. She killed good and innocent people. We’re just supposed to accept she was always a good person simply because she says so? Sorry sweetheart, the evidence does not exist. I would send your ass to prison for a good 25 to life, but the network didn’t ask for my opinion about your participation in the new show. THEY SHOULD HAVE.
Then there’s the way they casually avoid things Bl*ck Sir*n has done.
Din*h: I can let go of the people I lost and mistakes that I made.
Din*h lost her boyfriend because L*urel murdered him. They ate French fries and drank milkshakes in a ten second scene and now we’re supposed to believe they’re best friends. Umm… no. If you want to make this friendship believable don’t pretend their history doesn’t exist. Most of your viewing audience is coming from Arrow. We remember that L*urel killed Dinah’s boyfriend.
L*urel: D you’re up. You ready?
Din*h: Never not.
Ugh. Cringe. Arrow was effortlessly bad ass because Stephen Amell made Oliver Queen look effortlessly bad ass.
The action was show, not tell, and that includes the dialogue. There is no making L*urel and Din*h cool, so just-
And POSE. It’s like mannequins in a Macy’s window. YIKES.
Source: canarynetwork
They force this “Ra Ra Girl Power” nonsense with clunky lines and empty camaraderie while at the same time; L*urel eviscerates Mia’s life choices by insulting her all hour. If you want to bolster “female relationships” on this network then start with the women treating each other with respect.
There was a criminal lack of William, Zoe and Connor. TERRIBLE DECISION.
Hopefully, this changes dramatically if the show goes to series. This is what I meant by “retooled.” It is clear two different concepts are being slapped together. The one we saw in 7x16 and whatever KC pitched to the network. The biggest flaw in this backdoor pilot is how disjointed it feels.
It’s like there are two shows. Mia has her life with William, Zoe, JJ and Connor and the other show is Din*h and L*urel. It’s similar to Oliver and L*urel/Tommy/Thea versus Diggle/Felicity in the beginning of Arrow, but it feels really unnecessary to make that mistake again. I do not feel Green Arrow and The Canaries is Marc Guggenheim and Beth Schwartz’s vision for what they wanted the spin-off to be and it is GLARINGLY obvious.
No mention of Felicity or Diggle. Yes, I understand why. We have to watch the Arrow series finale to find out what happens to our beloved characters. Mia and William never mentioning Felicity and JJ and Connor never mentioning Diggle & Lyla is WEIRD. Particularly since it was Mia’s graduation and her engagement party with JJ.
Stray Thoughts
I vote for this to be Mia’s next tattoo. Source: amunetblack
Well… that’s new information Din*h. Source: shawgroves
Why is L*urel calling Din*h “D?” When did that start?
Rene is running for a third term. Do we need to be concerned about a utilitarianism regime happening?
I will never believe Din*h can do “Felicity stuff.” Where the hell is William?
“Oh frack you.” FINALLY.
The adversarial relationship between Mia and L*urel is a wise choice given how KC and Katherine McNamara interact online with each other. Or don’t as the case may be.
What is happening with L*urel's boots? Are there bombs attached to them or something?
The lipsticks on L*urel and Din*h are not good. There's a lot of eye makeup happening too. Let's tone it down makeup department.
This is my face whenever I see L*urel too. Source: supercanaries
You killed her fiancée L*urel. Pay your fucking tab.
Female Big Bad. Could be awesome. Just have to wait and see.
I'm really glad William and Mia are rich again. I missed billionaire money. It's fun.

It's over, we are your new rulers
Kara Danvers/Over girl x Male Reader
Request- Loved the dark Carol story. I had this idea that the reader is a King of an whole Empire and he also wants the infinite stones. At the end of Endgame he comes with his own huge ship and whole army to claim them. His Queen is Kara (like with a black suite. Like overgirl.) Carol things she can take him but Kara is his wife and also bodyguard and she is much stronger then Carol. Can you do like a cool battle and the reader gets all stones at the end and conquers the earth and they have to surrender
Alex’s world has turned upside down. She is feeling angry and hurt because her sister Kara is now a villain. She has tried everything to get Kara to become good again. Kara is far gone and is married to you. Alex has been asking for help to save Kara because of even Barry and Oliver couldn't save her. J'onn knows Nick Fury and he told the problem about supergirl. Nick sent Carol Danvers to meet up with Alex and J'onn. They told Carol what is going on. Your picture shows up on the screen.
”Who is that?” Carol asked.
”His name is Y/N and he rules an empire so he is the king and Kara is the queen. He is very strong, cocky bastard and my sister married him. I don't know what happened between them that made her go evil. I need you to keep Y/N busy while I try to get close to Kara” Alex said.
”Okay. We need to come up with a would agenda of what will happen if you can't save your sister” Carol said.
”I will save her,” Alex said.
Carol didn't say anything. Now they talk about a plan.
~Outer Space~
You are on your ship and Kara walked in the room. You kiss her and she is happy being with you.
”I have a gift for you,” You said.
”What is it?” Kara asked.
You take out a box and give it to her.
”I thought, you can use a new suit. I got this made just for you” You said.
She opened the box and takes out the new suit. She loves it and she has a big smile on her face. The new suit is black and red. She hugged you and kissed you passionately.
”I love it so much, Y/N. I'm going to put it on right now” Kara said.
You smiled at her.
”Can’t wait to see it” You said.
You wait for her. Once she came out wearing the new suit, you smiled at her.
”You look so beautiful,” You said.
”I love the suit even more,” Kara said.
”Come, we have a lot to talk about,” You said.
You and Kara hold hands and walked towards the control room. You turn on hologram and the infinite stones showed up.
”What are those?” Kara asked.
”Those are called the Infinity Stones. There are six, each can control something different like Space, Time, Power, Reality, Mind, and Soul. With those Infinity Stones, we will rule the universe and we will be unstoppable. Think about it, we will own all six stones and we can do whatever we want. Let's them together” You said.
”Yes! Let's get the stones together. I know no one will stop us. If they think they can stop let them, I don't mind improving my skills” Kara said.
”I love it when you talk like that. I know where we can get them” You said.
”Where?” Kara asked.
”Earth,” You said.
” Let's pay a visit to some old friends,” Kara said.
She starts to kiss you.
--------------------------
Carol explained what the Infinity Stones can do. The plan is to get the stones and stop you and Kara. Now Carol and Alex have all the stones together.
”Will the stones really stop him for good?” Alex asked.
”Yes. These stones are the most powerful items in the universe, anyone will do anything to get these stones. Let's get ready” Carol said.
Alex starts to get ready and her mind is racing.
”Alex, we will get Kara back and he will be gone for good” J’onn said.
”I really hope so. I miss her so much, we all do. I want him to suffer for taking Kara away from us” Alex said.
”He will pay for everything,” J’onn said.
Suddenly, everyone can see a giant spaceship arriving.
Everyone sees you and Kara get out of the ship. Alex glared at you and everyone gets ready.
”Give us the stone or we will take it by force,” You said.
”Do you think we will give up that easily?” Carol said.
You shrug your shoulders.
”You know what it doesn't matter, give in or fight back. Either way, all of you will now down to us” You said.
J’onn has the gauntlet where are all the stones are. Your army is standing behind you and Kara. Carol thinks she can take you on. You smirked at Alex, you know she hates you with a passion.
Carol went straight towards you but Kara stepped in. Kara punched Carol and she hit the ground hard. Carol used flight and she went straight towards Kara. Carol was going to punch Kara but she grabbed Carol’s fist then used headbutt on Carol. Then Carol hits the ground and Kara just smirked at her. Carol starts to use photon blasts then Kara used heat vision and she starts to walk towards Carol.
Before Carol can do another attack then Kara distracted her by using ice breath then she punched Carol in the face.
”Do you think it would be that easy?” Kara said.
Carol stands up.
”I’m just getting started,” Carol said.
Kara smirked.
”Good, because I'm in the mood for a fight,” Kara said.
”Tell me, Alex don't you think your sister looks amazing in her new suit,” You said.
”Y/N I will make you pay,” Alex said.
”ATTACK!” You yelled.
Barry and Oliver arrived with their own army. Now the war has started. You used flight to catch up to Alex but Barry stepped in. He thought he would easily stop you, by running in a circle but you can see him. You grabbed him by the throat and you start to squeeze.
”This won't end well, for you or your friends,” You said.
You threw him across the field.
Kara is fighting against Carol, Oliver, J’onn, and Sara. Kara just laughed at them when she starts to fight them.
”I'm not even tired. But I do thank all of you giving me a workout” Kara said.
Oliver got and shot an arrow at Kara, but she used her heat vision to destroy it. Then you arrived and stand next to her.
”Having fun my dear?” You said.
”I'm not breaking a sweat. But it's cute, they think they can stop me” Kara said.
”We will stop you. Kara this isn't you. You cared about saving people and giving hope to others. He is just using you, soon he will leave you” Sara said.
”I have proved my love for her. She knows I won't leave her” You said.
”Y/N, you don't have to explain yourself I know you love me. How about we defeat them then grab the stones” Kara said.
”Oh, you are so perfect,” You said.
Ray, Sara, and Carol tried to hit Kara at the same time but she punched Ray then threw him against Sara and Carol. Then used ice breath to stop Mick using his flame gun. You have your boot on Oliver's throat and you are choking him.
”You truly look amazing in that suit. Later, we will have a feast” You said.
Kara punched J’onn and blocked his kicks.
”This suit is so much better than my old outfit. Come on, guys this fight is getting so predictable. Y/N I'm getting bored and they are not any fun” Kara said.
You sigh. Then you kicked Oliver in the face.
”Yeah, you are right this fight is getting predictable,” You said.
Sara was going to do a high kick on you but you dodged her attack. Then you punched J’onn in the stomach.
-----------------------
You and Kara stand in front of Alex and she has the Gauntlet.
”Give it up, Alex. Look around there is no way you will win,” You said.
”I won't give up on saving my sister and killing you,” Alex said.
”I like that attitude of yours. But you are getting on my nerves” You said.
You were going to attack Alex but Carol stopped you. Kara was going to stop Carol but you stopped Kara.
”No, my love. This time I will fight her just get the stones” You said.
”Piece of cake,” Kara said.
Alex threw the Gauntlet at Carol. Now you are going after Carol and Alex will try to stop Kara. Alex has Kryptonite and she will use it on Kara. J’onn and Clark tried to hold Kara down so that Alex can use the Kryptonite on Kara.
”You guys are pathetic,” Kara said.
She slammed J’onn and Clark against each other.
You and Carol glared at each other. You and Carol charged at each other, you and Carol used the same move going to use a punch but the vibration was strong that caused you and Carol to fall back.
Carol ran towards you then used a high kick to your face. But the attack didn't hurt you. You spit out the blood and she thought it would make you fall. You grabbed her leg fast then punched her in the stomach.
You have many different abilities. Your hands into fits and an energy source surrounded your hands.
”Tonight everyone on earth will bow down to me,” You said.
”Over my dead body,” Carol said.
”I can make that happen,” You said.
You have a higher endurance then Carol. It will take so much longer for you to get tired.
She used flight and you went after her. She tried to punch you but you caught her fist. Then you grabbed her throat and you slammed her against the ground extremely hard that it caused a small earthquake. She let's go of the gauntlet then you grabbed it. Clark used heat vision to stop you but you used heat vision also. Clark is using all his force, you and Clark start to walk while using what vision. You used energy projection to attack. He falls down before Barry can use lighting attacks on you or before anyone can attack you.
You put on the gauntlet and everybody felt a powerful energy wave. You feel the power of the stones and you have a sinister smile. Kara kissed you and you kiss her back.
”No one will stop us,” You said.
She gently touches your cheek.
”Let’s rule the universe as we planned,” Kara said.
She kissed you passionately in front of everyone.
Kara walked towards Alex and looks down at her sister.
”I told you, big sister, no one will stop us. But it was cute that you thought you can stop me or him” Kara said.
”What happened to you,” Alex said.
Kara laughed and walked away.
--------------
Time went by, many heroes tried to stop you or Kara but they have all failed. You still hold the stones now you and Kara are planning to have kids. Alex hasn't given up to save Kara or to kill you.

Day 3: Maybe you’re right
Here’s Day 3 of the #WonderBatKeyPhrases
@fyeahwonderbat
I walk out of the bank, still fuming from the fight moments before. My shoulder aches and my jaw hurts from clenching in pain. Tonight Diana acted on impulse, as she tends to do. She has ruined a mission that could have ended a case I have been working on for months. Bane has been running rampant in Gotham, stealing countless artifacts, infecting dozens of people with venom. He is creating an army, and I want to stop it before he releases it on the unsuspecting people of not only Gotham, but the world. Who knows what will happen if he gets the next few items off his list.
The blue and red flashing lights scorch my eyes as I step out onto the steps of the bank. One of the officers orders me to freeze, but when he notices who I am, when he sees the cape and the cowl, he begins to shake. "Batman," he whispers as he lowers his gun. His partner beside him lowers her gun, as well as the other four officers who remain hidden behind their patrol cars. "Where's Superman?" he asks.
I let out a small scoff. People in Metropolis are so quick to forget there are others who are willing to put their lives on the line for them. One of which I can hear coming out of the bank. "There was another emergency," I respond. My voice is deep and gruff, and the officer takes a step back, startled. "The Argentinian Ruby was stolen," I explain. It is a priceless artifact that I have been keeping tabs on ever since its arrival in the United States four months ago. I knew someone would try to take it, and when it had been auctioned off last month, I knew it was only a matter of time before an attempt was made.
The officer's eyes widen in shock. "That jewel is worth thousands," he states.
"Millions," I correct. He nods before he holsters his gun and runs inside. His partner runs in behind him, stopping only once to nod at Diana as she stops near my side. The rest of the officers exit their cars and rush into the bank, leaving me and the Amazon, who is fuming by my side. "J'onn," I say, pressing my comlink to establish the connection with the Watchtower.
"Go ahead, Batman," J'onn says after a few moments.
"Transport Diana and I to the cave." I don't have to look at Diana to know the Batcave is the last place she wants to be at, but we need to talk, and it's the most privacy I can offer.
"Copy," is all J'onn says, before we are enveloped in the bright light and transported into the dark cave I consider my sanctuary.
I pull off my cowl and let it hang around my neck as I walk towards the computer, hoping my eyes will adjust to the darkness the cave provides before I run into something along the way. When I reach the computer, I press a few keys, awaking the large device, before I turn to Diana. She stands there, leaning against a wall, her hands crossed over her chest. "You could've gotten yourself killed," I say, as I grab a few items off the desk to my right. Alfred has made it a habit to leave medical supplies down in the cave, knowing it is a hassle to keep transporting them back upstairs nightly. Diana only scoffs and shakes her head.
"You would have," she retorts.
I ignore her cold stare as I make my way towards her, medical supplies in hand. "You shouldn't be worried about me during missions," I state. "If we can't stay focused on the task at hand without worrying about the other's well being, we can't be together." My words are blunt and I can see how much they affect Diana when her lips part and she lets out an inaudible gasp.
She is silent as I bend down to glance at her leg. The muscle is sliced pretty deep and I wonder how she hasn't fainted from blood loss, but then I remember who she is. She is Wonder Woman: Amazon/demi-goddess. There is a lot she does that doesn't seem like it should be possible.
I gently grab her leg, stilling my hand when her calf twitching under my touch. I can hear her hiss in pain and my heart hurts when I realize I am the source of her discomfort. "I'll see if Alfred can stitch this up," I say, knowing her accelerated healing has already begun to fix the damage the thief has caused. "You will need to stay off of it for a while," I say, as I begin to clean the wound. "I'm putting you on light duty for a week." She says nothing as I stand and I wonder if she's heard me. I was sure she would argue with me at the mention of not being able to go out on missions.
"Maybe you're right," she says after a few moments, her voice barely a whisper.
I turn her way and watch as she takes a deep breath. Her eyes stay locked on the ground as she lets out a shaky sigh. "About?" I ask. Is she agreeing that she needs to be put on light duty? That was easier than I thought.
She glances up and my eyes meet hers. Those bright blue eyes that I have fallen in love with are glossed over, trying to conceal the pain that I no doubt have caused. I knew I would ruin this perfect woman if given the chance. "Maybe becoming more than teammates, more than friends, was a mistake."
I stare at the woman, trying my hardest not to let my shock show on my face. I tried so hard not to be pulled in. I tried to keep my distance from her, but she fought. I told her being with me was going to be a mistake, that I would only hurt her; never did I think she would agree with me. "I know," I say without thinking. I silently curse myself when she only furrows her brows.
"Bruce," she begins. She limps over to the desk near my computer, using the piece of furniture to lean on. "I can't keep doing this," she confesses. "I can't be the only one invested. I can't keep knocking down that wall only to have you build it back up."
"That's not fair," I find myself saying. Diana only shakes her head.
"What's not fair is how hard you are on yourself, Bruce. You claim you're unlovable, like you're some sort of curse that isn't good enough for me." I dismiss her claim with a shake of my head as I head back to the computer. It is a defense tactic, but I can see she has misread my intentions completely, and I already regret it. Diana lets out a sigh as she drags her hand over her tired face. "Do you love me, Bruce?" she asks.
I freeze at the question. My shoulders tense as I slowly turn to face the woman awaiting my answer. I have yet to confess how I truly feel for Diana, fearing it would all be shattered; it appears my fear is now a reality. She continues to stare at me, her nostrils flaring as she watches me struggle with the question. I know there is no way I am going to get out of this unscathed.
I walk into the room Clark and I have been in all morning, a small smirk on my face as I notice Clark is still in the same chair, hunched over, reading the paper in his hands. He is reciting his vows, trying to memorize the words he has written to verbalize his love for his fiance. It makes me happy and nauseous all at once. While I am happy for Clark, I can't help but wonder what it would be like to feel this nervous, feel this excited, knowing at the end of the day the woman I love more than anything would be my wife. It must be an amazing feeling.
"How's Lois?" he asks not bothering to tear his eyes from the paper in his hands.
"Beautiful," is all I can say. "You really are one lucky son of a bitch," I say with a smirk.
Clark glances up and chuckles. "I know," he says. "Too bad you missed your chance."
I raise an eyebrow at his statement, trying to figure out what he means. Does he know about Diana and I? Did she tell him something? "Yes," is all I say, knowing he'll reveal all he knows soon enough.
It doesn't take long for Clark to respond as expected. "I guess it's a good thing Lois dumped you though," he says with a chuckle. He is trying to ruin my ego. It's okay, I'll let him. It is his wedding after all. "You wouldn't be with Diana if she hadn't."
I didn't realize my ego could take such a hit, but the mention of Diana's name creates a small crack in my heart. "Yes," I repeat. I watch as Clark turns to face me, his eyebrow raising as he attempts to bring himself to ask the question on his lips, but when he shakes his head I know he has thought better of it. Good, I won't have to lie to him on his wedding day.
I steal a glance at my watch and let out a small sigh. It is time for the ceremony to begin. "Time to go, Kent," I say, watching as the man stands from his seat and places the paper back into his jacket pocket. "You sure you want to do this?" I ask, the hint of a chuckle behind my words.
Clark nods. "More than anything," he says, opening the door to the room before we step into the hallway.
I follow him out and the two of us walk until we are behind the doors that'll lead us to the main room, where everyone has quietly made their way, patiently waiting for the ceremony to start. We can hear the band as they play soft music, creating a background to the quiet side conversations everyone inside is having. Clark lets out a shaky breath, trying to calm his nerves, and turns to me. I shake my head as I notice how crooked his tie is. For a man who wears one nearly every day, he sure does struggle with the accessory. "Can I ask you something," I say, my voice low as I reach over to fix the groom's tie. He nods, standing still as I fix the red tie around his neck, wondering how on earth we have gotten to this point. We used to hate each other, each set on saving the world by different means. But the more I think about it, the more I realize Clark is probably my closest friend. He knows both sides of my life. He knows the things I try to keep hidden. He has been there for nearly everything, and I owe my life to him for more than one occasion.
"Does Lois ever worry about you?" I ask. "You know, when we're out," I say, trying to get the point across without revealing the fact that the two of us are founding members of the League.
Clark nods. "Of course," he responds. "Just like I worry about her when she gets too involved in one of her stories." We both let out a chuckle, remembering the faint memory of Lois creeping into an abandoned laboratory of Lexcorp, before she was nearly killed by Shade and Killer Frost; we would not be here today if the League hadn't been tracking down the Injustice League, knowing where they had been hiding.
"But I would rather the two of us go our whole lives worried about each other and together, than not worried and without her."
I nod as he opens the door to the foyer. I take a look around, stopping when my eyes catch the most beautiful person here today. She turns the corner, her hands in her hair as she is attempts to keep her raven curls up and out of her face. From the angle she is standing in I can see the healed scar on her calf and my mind is instantly brought back to that night. "You know, Kent," I begin, watching as she finally glances up to see me staring. I offer her a small smile before I turn to Clark, pushing him through the door, knowing Lois isn't far behind Diana. Clark may be an alien from another planet, but the man is superstitious and I know I will never hear the end of it if I let him see Lois before the ceremony begins. "Maybe you're right," is all I say as I close the door behind us.

Notes on Supergirl 3x21
- I'll start by saying this: Lena deserves a bigger victory lap. She hasn't just cured Sam of Reign; she has cured a member of her 'family' from their murderous inner demons. This should be a huge deal for her. But I'll take the relieved smile, nevertheless.
- Sorry, Alex. Guess you won't be Ruby's mum forever after all.
- Kara making the decision to trust Lena with black Kryptonite, despite everything, is one of my favourite moments from this episode. Kara really does have faith in everyone. It's not just words.
- Kara and Alex on that sofa, maybe for the last time. But Alex will always be in Kara's heart.
- Suuuure, Kara, you're just letting him tag along to pick up a gravity generator. Nothing else going on there.
- THE PARTY. There's so much I love about this: Winn's joy at celebrating his friend, especially the linking-arms-to-drink-champagne thing, which hits almost exactly the same tone as their dance in 1x03 (Winn is Kara's best friend. I WILL FIGHT YOU, AND I WILL WIN); Mon-El giving Winn a little hug; Alex's speech for her sister; and most importantly, Kara's speech to everyone else, which turns it from being a celebration of Supergirl, to a celebration of all the people that made her Supergirl. El Mayarah, forever.
- But my FAVOURITE thing about the montage is the ENTIRELY SEPARATE party at Catco that exists solely to include Lena (as 'family', no less) despite the fact that Lena has no idea where Kara's really going, or why it's so important to her; and when it should be clear to everyone in the audience that has ever met a person before that she is so much less Kara's family than anyone at the DEO party is.
- Kara's SO EXCITED to see all her stuff to see all her stuff from when she was a kid! And ROS- sorry, 'Thara'!
- Of course James is bored when there's no-one to save. He's driven to do this (see my notes on 3x19), but at the end of the day, he does this for fun.
- Winn, being Kara's best friend, has a much better of how Kara's trip to Argo is going to go than James does. Jeremy Jordan's spent all season playing Winn as knowing that one day, Kara wouldn't come back. But he didn't think it would be like this.
- The prop gag - that little toy gun going off unexpectedly - is a great distillation of the larger themes of this gun control story-line, and it's surprisingly well executed. No-one is, strictly speaking, evil, but all the gun advocates view the situation through a specific and very narrow lens: the manufacturer through the status quo of the industry; the gunman himself through his own personal problems; and Lena, through the attempts on her life, and her attempts on the lives of others (none of which were strictly self-defence, since she shot two of them in the back, and the other was an attempt at pre-meditated murder). Mental health is mentioned constantly. Lots of good choices.
- James's face when Winn compares the shield to a Picasso is priceless. How dare Winn be proud of his own work? Only James gets to exercise his ego through Guardian, Winn!
- Kara's so excited to not have to save anyone; because, unlike James, being a hero was never about fun for her. Kara heard people suffering, everywhere, and she had the means to prevent it, and the whole time she was told to hide, it ate away at her. She did what she could, when she could, as much as was healthy for her. But, on Argo, she is free.
But it can't last. If there's an accident or attack here, she can't do anything. And that's going to hurt so much more, and Mon-El knows it, which is why he gives her the Legion ring. It's totally not a marriage metaphor, honest.
- I refuse to believe that Lena thought four pizzas was the right amount. Or that she buys pizza. Or that she'll eat more than two slices.
- I am, however, entirely open to the idea that she's a libertarian who's about to sea-lion her black boyfriend - who she knows could be shot by police any time they feel like it - on whether or not kids should get killed just for going to school. She's never been a bleeding heart. Every issue she's ever cared about, she's always had a reason for it to be about her.
- James has had a good-natured nuclear physicist sitting outside his office for two years? Has he tried setting her and Winn up on a date? Put in a good word for him, even? Are you even really his friend, James?
(I say this, because if Winn does end up going to the 31st century, Mon-El is absolutely going to talk him up to every female Legionnaire that'll be willing to listen. He's a good bro).
- Mon-El and Kara are out on the most middle-class, late-20s-early-30s dinner ever. Totally not married, though. No, sirree.
- ...Why is there a loading dock at a law firm? IT'S A LAW FIRM. They don't take that many large deliveries. It's mostly paper.
- Kara and happiness: never a particularly stable combination. She could be happy on Argo, but she's been away for so long. And the only person in all of time and space who can truly relate to what she's feeling is right there with her, even though his reunion with his old people was so much different from this one; and she's standing there, asking him if she can ever be truly happy? Maybe he shouldn't unburden himself now. Maybe he should let her settle into contentment before springing this on her. But he's been down that road himself. He knows where that path leads, or believes he does. The time is now.
You can be happy, Kara. You both can.
- Arming the entire DEO? Does Winn have a staff, J'onn? *begins outlining spin-off, Winslow's Angels*
- "The only weapon anyone needs, is a shield." And a baseball bat. And a grappling hook. And smoke grenades.
Also guns, tazers, black-body field generators, lead dispersal bombs, terrorist-controlled attack drones with untraceable bullets, x-ray-vision-proof scatter fields, and Kryptonite.
Seriously, has he even met Lena Luthor?
- Speaking of whom, it's two episodes before the end of the season, and she's discovered something revolutionary! About black Kryptonite, no less! The stuff that can make World-killers! What could possibly go wrong?
- But it's great to see Miss Teschmacher take her rightful place as a Luthor minion. Now, to get her into that Superman '78 sequined cape...

Patient Zero (Full Text)
A/N: Hi guys, like I said here is the full text of this story. This one started as a one shot for halloween week, my little attempt at the zombie trope as you can see. I wanna thank the dear Anon that came into the ask box to request a second part and who shared ideas to continue the story. Kudos to you!! This is the final result and I hope you guys liked it. I know it’s not the final everyone expected but idk i felt this had to end like this...questions, complaints, complitents, whatever, you can hit it guys! and please let me know what you think about it. :) It was a pleasure to write this for you.
Lena Luthor x Zombie!Reader//Word Count: 5,612
00:00. Play.
00:02. Hello, Lena...[Sigh]
Your face was the first thing Lena saw after clicking on the video file in her mail. It had been a long time since you two had seen each other. You had been close since boarding school and, even after you left to med school, you kept working together in small projects. She remembered that time when you had tried your own research project to cure cancer at Jack's garage. She admitted she always had a thing for you but then she had met Jack. So you remained good friends. Then you lost contact after she moved to National City to run L-Corp. She tried to run a company and you tried to become the next nobel laureate. You didn't talk as much as you used to but she always remembered you with a soft smile.
00:05. If you are watching this, it means two things. One, that I managed to sent this video with top secret information to you, and two, that I... that something has gone terribly wrong in my lab.
At first, she didn't believe it. It was just not possible. Only when she read the files, things started to make some sense. After she finished reading those documents for the fifth time, the true horror of the situation shocked her. She needed a moment to think and she started to pace around her office. It was a lot to process and a lot more to do. If she was going to help, she also needed help.
00:23. For the past two years I've been working on a project to undermine the growth of cell populations and genetic material in different organisms. The research's purpose was to develop a treatment for people with cell growth disorders. Even a cure if possible[Pause]Six months ago we finally tested a serum. Forty people participated in the clinical trials. The results were particularly significant and optimistic. No serious side effects were reported...[Heavy sight] Until two months ago.
"Shouldn't we be talking with someone in the World Health Organization?" Kara questioned. For her, it looked more like some kind of conspiracy theory. "I mean, this seems strange."
"And what if they try to cover it?" Lena tried to convince her. "These companies are even worst when it comes to cover their mistakes. (Y/N) sent me this video because it was the only way to ensure someone else knew about this." She was truly worried about the situation, even more about you. "If Supergirl goes to check the activity in the labs at least we would know if there's something to worry about."
Kara sighted. "Ok, I will contact her but, in the meantime, let's try to find out what else is happening."
00:57. When we ran the test again[Pause]We discovered the pathogen had evolved, unlike anything we had seen. In the time it took to run the tests, there was a complete reversion on the serum's effects... The company has practically done nothing at this point, we're in lock down, alone, and they will try to erase the whole thing, for sure. [Rising voice] Heck, they will let us die in here...
Once Supergirl finished scanning the area, she flew directly to L-Corp to inform Lena about her findings. She didn't wanted to believe it but you had told the truth. If they did nothing, there was a chance the situation could worsen.
"The upper levels are mostly offices but they were empty, there was nothing in the building. It's almost as if they vanished."
"Did you find the laboratories?" Lena asked concerned.
"They are seven levels underground." Supergirl's voice was cautious. "Only the sixth level seems to still be active."
"Could you see what was in there?" The uncertainty was killing her.
"You need to start working on those formulas." Supergirl's face was grim.
01:25. The serum, it's transforming them... I-It doesn't seem like they are human anymore... We tried to contain them as best as we could but now we are the ones trapped in here. We've been trying to work on an antidote but I don't think I will be able to finish it...
Lena had been looking at the monitors in the DEO with the information regarding patient zero. A subject test that had been diagnosed with carcinoid cancer just before you started the clinical trials. This person had been the first one to present anomalies and was used as the basis to develop the antidote. Alex had worked along side Lena for three days straight until she was sure the antidote would work.
"This could have been one of the greatest discoveries in modern medicine, you know?" Lena said nostalgic.
"Dr. (Y/L/N) was really aiming for that nobel." Alex would have responded more impressed than she sounded, if it weren't for the imminent danger such discovery had brought.
1:45. I'm sorry I'm dragging you into this mess but I don't trust anyone else. The information I sent you, everything is there. Documents, procedures, test results, formulas... [Deep breath] Our own work is there. It will be easy for a genius like you to crack the code. And if anything, we already found our patient zero. If you can make it, if you can reach us, it all will be ready for testing.
"We're all in position and ready to enter." Alex spoke from over the comms.
"Remember to be careful. It's been seven days since the look down, we don't know what's inside." Replied J'onn.
"We will." Supergirl assured and turned to Lena to check up on her. "You ready?"
She was far from ready. A group of ten people, along with Alex and Supergirl, had been assigned to go into this mission. The objective was to deliver the antidote but, if necessary, the team had been given orders to eliminate any thread inside. Lena couldn't stand idly if there was a chance to find you, so she practically added herself to the group. No one could talk her out of it.
"Ready." She said with the chills crawling up on her spine.
02:11. [Light chuckle] Too much for the cure of cancer, right?...
When the team reached the sixth level, there was no sign of you, but everything else so far seemed like a scene from a horror movie. Of the forty four people that were inside, ten were still trapped in several rooms, like rabid animals, covered in blood and hitting themselves against the glass walls. Fifteen had already died of starvation and, their rotted bodies, were scattered in all directions. Nine had been stopped by Supergirl, and seven had to be shoot by the team and their bodies remained motionless on the floor. It had took eight bullets each to put them down. Two were still alive, if she could call it that, trying to crawl their way towards them.
After the shock of the scene, they finally moved towards the place they were looking for. There was a containment room in which, according to your plans of the lab, the patient zero was left. Lena walked feeling a knot of fear in her throat.
They reached the room and all they could see was a figure standing in the middle of the room. There was no movement. The figure, Lena inquired, was one of the scientist as it was dressed in a white coat. She hoped that person could still be saved. But the figure turned around, and something in her told her it was a lost case.
She saw a haggard face, unrecognizable, bloodshot eyes streaming with black blood. It was a terrifying vision. Then she looked at the attire, noticing something on the coat pocket.
02:17. [Heavy sigh]Dear Lord, I really hope you're watching this...
The identification card had a name she recognized and realization hit her like a train wreck. Fear overwhelming her once again. She didn't want to believe it. It was just not possible.
02:29. Stop.
(Y/N) (Y/L/N). You were patient zero.
00:00. Play.
00:03. [Y/N]: [Camera shaking] Say 'hello' to the camera! [Laughing] [Lena]: [Laughing] Hi, camera! [Jack]: Hello [Smiling and waving]
Four years ago, Jack, Lena, and you had been spending weekends and days off at Jack's garage doing an impossible research. The three of you were well aware about the implications and obstacles of trying to find, the so called, cancer cure. Even when your college research had come down to hardly a few insignificant discoveries, you three had been more than content to spend those days together. You were friends and nothing mattered to you more than keeping that friendship. But now, Jack was dead, you were part of the living dead, and Lena had no idea what to do to help you.
It had been barely two days since the DEO team, Supergirl, and she had found you, and other forty three people, in your research labs. Thanks to whatever authority, they had been able to move you from the company's labs to another facility of the DEO. Only eleven trial subjects, including you, were now contained in separated cells. There were ongoing investigations about their identity, medical history, and health conditions regarding the clinical trials. A team of biomedical engineers was working, along Lena, to revert the effects of the serum, as the antidote she had synthesized only managed to stop the development of the symptoms.
She had spent those two days looking over and over again at your research, your formulas, notes, your own medical records; whatever that could help her understand how the serum had worked on the cancer cells. They had also recovered some of your personal items from the lab and your department, your cellphone and laptop. Lena had checked every archive you had regarding this project, and something more. You had kept photos and videos of those early days. She watched that video with nostalgia, like she could find an answer in it but unable to find it. She just didn't want to lose you too.
00:11. [Y/N]: [Clearing throat] Ladies and gentlemen, you're watching America's Next Top Scientist, starring your fave engineers, Jack Spheer, genius Lena Luthor and (Y/N) (Y/L/N). [Jack]: Wait, how's that Lena gets to be called genius?
"Why are you still here?" Kara came into the lab, pulling Lena away from her distractions. "I thought J'onn had sent you home."
"Sorry, I lost track of time." She responded with a smile that didn't reach her eyes and put your laptop aside.
"Any news?" Kara stepped in, walking towards the table in which Lena had been working non-stop for the last four days.
"Not really," she sighted, "only what we already have but..."
"What is it?" Kara furrowed her eyebrows when she heard Lena's voice trail off.
Lena shook her head. "There's something off with the medical records, and (Y/N)'s last clinical tests are from three years ago."
"But, didn't (Y/N) have sent you everything?"
Lena remembered that day at her office in L-Corp, when you had sent the video and the research files had popped into her email. Everything is there. You remembered you saying, there was no reason to doubt that now. It will be easy for a genius like you to crack the code. Maybe it was Lena's exhausted brain but those last words resonated in her mind. Every document and piece of information you had sent had been considerably accessible, you hadn't put passwords or security codes... There was one somewhere.
"Where's Winn?" Lena snapped out of her thoughts.
00:28: [Y/N]: Because she is. [Lena]: [Laughing lightly] Mm-hmm, don't contradict the presenter, Jack. [Y/N]: Yeah, get with the program, Spheer. [Jack]: Alright, alright [Rising his hands and smiling] so, what's todays challenge?
Winn had spent a whole day corroborating every single piece of information you had provided. Time that Lena was told to use to rest. She reluctantly left the facility with the condition that Winn would call her once he could find anything. He had promised to do so and, twenty seven hours later, Lena was again on her way to the DEO. When she arrived, Alex, Supergirl, J'onn and Winn were already gathered on a computer room, waiting for her. Several screens were displaying all medical test results from the forty people involved in the medical trials. She looked at the screens not really understanding what was happening until Winn started to explain.
"Ok, so, I know the priority here is trying to find a cure for whatever is happening with our fellas in solitary confinement-" He started.
"Mr. Schott, to the point, please." J'onn stared at him.
"Sir, yes, sir." Winn cleared his throat. "Ok, so when we checked the documents (Y/N) sent, what we were looking for was essentially all medical information we could gather for the antidote, right? However, we never stopped to check if the information in previous test results was right."
"Yeah, that was not important at the moment." Replied Alex, crossing her arms. "We already knew the trial subjects were cancer patients and the diagnosis was confirmed in other records."
"What I mean is we never checked their personal information. Or the information stored by the labs and hospitals where their studies were made. Look." He typed something from his tablet and the test results moved on the screens.
"Why are there two copies of the same tests?" Asked Supergirl confused. Lena was the first to notice the differences.
"The numbers in the patients ID, age, birth date, and social security number are different." She took a step towards the screens.
"Yes, and I also found this." The screen changed one more time, showing what appeared to be the main menu of an app. "This is part of the system program used by the laboratory, and this is where they keep all records of research and clinical trials. And guess what? Their latest investigation is encrypted."
Lena stood there, watching the screens, when it all came rushing to her. This was what she was looking for.
00:43. [Lena]: Figure out how to stop the metastasis of cancer cells? [Y/N]: Yep [Small pause] that and stop Jack from blowing up something else in his garage [Laughing]
Winn had spent another day deciphering the encryption system the lab had used to shield their information. J'onn had tried to get the intel directly from the people that ran the company but it had been useless. As far as they were concern, this case was nonexistent. Eleven people were still in airlock cells, waiting motionless with haggard faces and famished bodies. Only when an alarm went off or other person came in close proximity to them, they seemed to react. The black blood had stopped leaking from their eyes and, according to their recent test, the cancer cells in their bodies didn't present further changes or development.
Whatever was happening inside of them had stopped. They hoped they would stay that way. Meanwhile, Alex, Lena and the biomedical engineers, were still fighting for a solution to counteracting the serum, in hopes that the patients could be saved. But if there's something you cannot fight no matter how strong, intelligent, or brave you think you are, is Mother Nature. No one had expected this to ever happen again. The earth beneath them started to shake, slight movements becoming violent in a second. Everyone at the DEO started to move looking for a safe place, as cracks appeared from the ground and the lights swung, and flickered, from the ceiling. Lena and the doctors stayed in the lab while J'onn, Alex, and Winn were the first ones to reach the central controls after the alarms went off.
"Not again." Alex growled.
"The emergency system is working but when the power comes back it will reboot everything." Winn was typing as fast as he could on the computers.
"You need to stop that." Said J'onn with a strong voice. A minute later, the system rebooted.
00:53. [Lena]: [Laughing in the background] [Jack]: Oh no, you didn't! [Y/N]: Oh yes, I did [Laughing].
The alarms were still ringing when the energy came back. Lena and the engineers were the first ones to see eleven emaciated bodies run loose. What had happened at your lab was happening again inside the DEO. She only had a second to recover and seal the room's door near to her, as a figure was fast approaching. Even the glass door was closed, the figure didn't slow its pace and hit the door with its head. At the impact, Lena took a step back, raising her hands as if to protect herself.
She had lived this moment before but now she was the one trapped inside the room. The patient hit the glass once more but this time with angry fists. She wanted so desperately to get away but fear had woken up inside of her, paralyzing her in place. That instant of fear was enough for her brain to notice an evident fact she had tried to ignore. She looked at the figure and felt the cold chills crawl through her entire body. Oh, what she would give to stop it all.
00:58. Stop.
"(Y/N)." Lena's voice wavered.
00:00. Play.
00:01. [Y/N]: ...here, this is for prosperity [Smiling] Say cheese! [Lena]: [Smiling] Wait, you're recording! [Laughing] [Y/N]: [Loud laughter] Oh, sorry. Just let me- [Camera shaking and focusing on the floor] [Lena]: No, no. Leave it! [Camera focusing on Lena] It works for prosperity either way.
Her voice was more of a whisper, lost among the sound of strident alarms. Her heart was pounding so hard, she could hear the beating in her hears. She looked at you, at your factions, your famished figure. There was barely a shadow of who you were hiding behind bloodshot eyes and, as if a faint moment of recognition passed between you two, you stopped hitting the glass doors. She saw you there, a smiling face and bright eyes, as if you had never changed.
For a moment, she saw her friend and she wanted so desperately to make that moment last. She knew someone was calling her name but it was like a distant sound. She then saw you turning, to follow the path the others had taken, and disappeared. Moments later everything was quiet again.
"Lena? Lena! Can you hear me?"
"Miss Luthor!" One of the doctors snapped her out of her trance. Lena saw her pointing at a laptop with Alex's face.
"Alex? What's happening?" She put herself in front of the laptop, ready to receive news or instructions about what to do. The moment before still lingering in her mind.
"Is everybody alright?" Alex asked first.
"Yes, we locked ourselves in the lab, the patients are out." Lena answered.
"We know. We are locked too in the control room."
"What's gonna happen now?"
"We need to move, immediately." Alex wouldn't take no for an answer.
"What do you mean? Why?" Lena was more than just worried now. She couldn't leave the investigation like this, so suddenly.
"All the patients are here near the main rooms." Alex made a pause. She wanted to put it in the best light but there was no possible way. She sighted. "But they are rabid, Lena, even with the alarms off they keep hitting doors and walls."
"Are you sure? The patients could only be reacting to your presence." Lena tried to argue.
"No, this is different. We moved out of their vision line, they know we were still inside."
"Can't your agents move them back to containment?"
"There was a malfunction in the cells due to the earthquake, we cannot put them back there, and we don't have the necessary equipment to prevent direct contact. If this is like the first time we cannot risk it going out there just like that and the rescue team cannot pull us out in that kind of chaos." Lena looked at her team. They were paralyzed with fear after hearing that.
"Ok, how are we doing this?" She wasn't going to put them in danger.
00:16. [Y/N]: [Behind camera] Alright. Then tell me, how does it feel to start your last year at boarding school? [Lena]: Ugh, horrible. [Y/N]: [Behind camera] Why? Aren't you glad this torture will be over soon? [Lena]: I am but it also makes me sad. [Y/N]: [Behind camera] Why? [Lena]: Cause after graduation we'll have to say goodbye to each other.
"You didn't have to stay last, you know?" Alex said after sealing the lab doors.
"You didn't have to come for me, you know?" Lena was typing on one of the DEO computers.
"As if." Alex approached her and pulled a gun for her. "Kara would kill me if I leave to your own devices. Now, do you know how to use one of these?" She watched Lena take the gun and raise an eyebrow. She then remembered the little incident with Corben. "Alright."
"Where are the others?" Lena asked and moved to another computer.
"Moving to the safe zone." Alex was looking through the glass panels for any sign of movement. "J'onn pulled a distraction but we have to move fast. We are the last ones."
"Ok, I just need a minute." She finished typing and a 3D model of different cells appeared on the screen.
"What's this?" Alex went closer to her to see what was keeping her still in here.
"I ran a few simulations for a modified formula of the antidote we made first."
"We don't have time to make it." Alex said softly, she knew what Lena was trying to do.
"I know." Lena watched the screen. “But I also needed to know if there is a chance."
There was never anything certain about finding an antidote and yet Lena was able to find a counteragent for the serum. She hadn't given up hope and Alex was certain she wouldn't until every resource at her disposal was used. If Kara had been in a similar position, and there were times she was, she would do everything in her hands to save her. She understood that and wished she could find a way to bring you back. Alex put a gently hand on her shoulder.
"Crap." Alex turned quickly around and whispered through her teeth. The sound of bangs and screeched voices fast approaching. "We gotta move, now."
00:35. [Y/N]: [Behind camera] Oh c'mon, that's not gonna to happen. We have plans, remember? [Lena]: Me ending world hunger and you discovering the cure of cancer? [Y/N]: [Behind camera] Yes [Cheerful] and we'll be working together to do that. Sounds nice, don't you think?
A minute of silence. That's all they needed. Silence to let you pass. Alex and Lena were sited behind a control panel, hiding and trying to make themselves smaller, like such thing could help them. The was no other noise but your dragging feet on the concert, your erratic breathing, and the small grunts that sometimes came out of your mouth. Lena had to put a hand over her mouth to stop a little yelp when she heard you smashing a computer on the other side of the room.
Alex's mind was racing, she tried to remain calm and control her breath. The escape wasn't going to be easy. Their guns were useless at the moment. Lena had been pretty resolute about it, the patients needed to say alive, sort of, especially patient zero. Not to mention the sound of gunshots could attract the other ten that were all over the place. If they wanted to be out of that room they needed to be as sneaky as possible. They would have to hover all the way down through the dormitory rooms, the containment rooms, the infirmary, and the storage units. All the way to the back of the building were the others were waiting.
Alex considered their options, hide or run. The first one was the safest. The rest of the patients seemed to be busy looking for anything in other places and, as long as they stayed down, patient zero couldn't find them. The second option, running, was a bit trickier. Alex was sure they could go from point A to point B in a matter of minutes. They only needed to run, as fast as they could, and only turn around to shot if the patients were getting too close.
What worried Alex the most, however, was the lack of ammunition. Between Lena and her, they had thirty bullets. If things got out of control and they needed to use them with the patients, Alex calculated, they would have to use at least three with each one of them. Last time, she remembered, they had to use eight. The numbers were not in their favor.
Both women listened attentively. There was no more noise except for their strained breathing. Lena turned to look at Alex, determination and resolve in her eyes. Whatever Alex considered was best, she would follow her lead. Alex understood the gesture and nodded, if they had to do something, they had to do it know that they were alone. Alex raised three fingers and mouthed "run". Lena nodded.
Three. They were preparing themselves, getting into position. Two. Lena held her gun tightly, feeling a cold sweat run in her forehead. One. Time to run for their lives.
00:52. [Lena]: We are going to change the world, uh? [Smiling] [Y/N]: [Behind camera with a louder voice] Yeah! That's the spirit! [Lena]: We just have to survive five years of college, remember? [Laughing] [Y/N]: [Behind camera] [Grumble] Ugh, true. You got it easy, you're a literal genius. [Curious tone] What was your IQ, again? [Lena]: Please, you just need to study a bit more and stop procrastinating. [Raising an eyebrow]
They had passed beyond the dormitories and the containment rooms, where they were able to dodge five of the loose patients. But six of them were still out there and they couldn't know exactly where. Later, when they reached the infirmary, they finally had to draw their guns towards the three raging and gaunt figures, who were looking for something to wreck.
Lena felt her heart about to explode with the adrenaline, as she pulled the trigger of her gun. Alex was always near her, doing the same, aiming at the patients. They couldn't think another thing as they tried to keep them at bay. The bullets were barely doing any damage and, Alex discovered, the only way to really stop them was to shot them in the head. Lena was not content with that but, after almost losing an arm, she realized it was for the best. They couldn't stay there any longer. Not like that.
After the third body stopped moving, they only wanted to take a second to breath, but they knew others would come after. The sound of gunshots was still lingering on the empty walls of the DEO and, they could listen clearly, some guttural cries getting louder. Alex made the math. Six bullets. That's all they had and it was barely enough if they could take the shots. Lena knew it too. Two patients were still loose around them and they had to keep moving. They only had to pass the storage units and they could be safe.
01:12. [Y/N]: [Behind camera] Easy to say, I'm probably gonna be a zombie during finals [Grumble] Can't somebody just shot me now? [Lena]: Oh, no. You are not allowed to die before we change the world. Remember?
Her muscles were burning and the fear was crawling through her whole body again. Seeing your face filled with blood and delirium as you chased them through that corridor had been the last straw.
Alex had to shoot first, two bullets that only managed to hit the patient that was behind you. Neither of you stopped. Another bullet from Lena's gun hit your chest. You kept running. Alex pulled the trigger. Finally stopping the emaciated body that had followed you. Two bullets for patient zero, that's all that was left.
Lena had recognized you. How she didn't know. There was nothing in you now that could have told her you were her friend turned into a monster. Only that little shadow that refused to leave the back of your eyes remained. She shot you once on your chest. The bullet passing near your heart making you stop a few meters away from them. They were close to the safe zone. Only one room and they could reach it.
But you didn't want to stop. You couldn't. Lena knew she had to use that last bullet if they were going to make it. She didn't want to shot. You were the patient zero. Part of the key to the cure was still in you. She knew she needed you alive to keep gathering samples and making tests.
You kept moving, slowly and with difficulty but sill advancing. Bloodshot eyes were looking at her. A starved, disfigured body trying to reach her. A voice no longer human screaming at her. She didn't want to shot. Part of her telling her it was still you. Not all gone. She needed you to stay alive so you could see the fruit of your work.
You kept moving. Hands pressing your chest as black blood poured from the hole in it. Then, a faint second of recognition and acknowledgment. It was no longer you who was inside. She didn't want to shot. Parts of her heart breaking. You were all gone now. She aimed at your head and pulled the trigger.
01:23. [Y/N]: [Behind camera] [Sigh] Ok, but they better give us that Noble after that. [Lena]: [Laughing] You're always so humble. [Y/N]: [Behind camera] [Nonchalant tone] I know, I know [Both laughing]
Three years ago, you arrived one night at National City General Hospital with fever, nausea and abdominal pain. At first, you had though it was food poisoning, or something similar, but the abdominal pain became constant and worse. The doctors had taken you immediately to surgery to perform a common procedure, but what they found had been a bit unusual. Appendicitis had been the first diagnosis. A carcinoid tumor, the second. Distant spread in liver and lungs of carcinoid tumors, the third.
Two and a half years ago, you started to work on the project on your own. Moved by a fear you never acknowledged, you searched and researched everything you could. You spent days and nights reading investigation papers, research reports, medical journals, test results. You had even taken that little research Jack, Lena, and you had done during college years. This work had become the priority and you were determined to find a solution.
A year after the cancer diagnosis you started working on it in the company's labs. It had been an almost impossible task to convince investors and the company board to let you start this project. In the past decade there had been barely a few significant discoveries about the disease and the idea itself of the cure of cancer had been ridiculous for them. But you show them that, even if the cure for cancer was impossible to accomplish, the company could still gain from your patents and discoveries. You assured them, with a smile, the reward was bigger than the risk.
Six months ago you had injected thirty nine people and yourself with the serum. Trial after trial in your investigation had leaded to that moment. The selected patients were given a dose of the serum and were asked to document their symptoms and medical diagnosis with their general doctors. During four months there was nothing but positive results. Your team was euphoric, the company was satisfied. You were hopeful.
Two months ago you realized it all had back fired. Your team reunited the other thirty nine patients to run the tests again. There cancer cells were not only increasing at a faster rate but they were changing. The serum was no longer a remedy but a catalyst.
One month ago, the company knew it was a lost case. The patients were getting worst and you had started to feel the symptoms yourself. For the first time ever, you didn't curse your slow growing cancer, as it had somehow relented the serum progress. You had to fix it somehow. You had to do it fast.
Two weeks ago, the company had left you and your team alone inside the labs. They saw your mistake and they wanted it all gone. The small hopes you had been all vanished, replaced by the dread you had tried to avoid since your diagnosis. You screamed, you cried, and tried to remember your life and the good in it. If you were going to die anyway, you wanted to leave with the fond memories about your family and friends. The love you shared with them. The adventures. Your hopes to change the world. And Lena.
Two weeks ago, you took all the files and documents, and modified them, knowing the company wouldn't let them leak that easily, and put yourself in front of a camera. Not because there was a solution, a cure, an antidote, but because there was someone out there. Someone away from this hellhole that could make things better.
00:00. [Recording]
00:02. Hello, Lena...
You started and a little hope returned to you. After all, she was going to change the world.
01:34. Stop.
Lena's voice was soft and trembling, like you were dreaming and she was afraid to wake you up.
But your dream had turned into a nightmare from which there was no wakening.
"(Y/N)." She said after the last bullet went straight to your head.
You didn't move again.

Mom, if its not too much to ask, could you do a story about Maggie having trouble dealing with a perpetually disappointed parent? Constantly being disappointed in her lifestyle choices out of 'love and worry'(style of dress, job, eating habits, etc.) and J'onn noticing and balancing it out with his own brand of space-dad approval? It's getting harder and harder to deal with my mom's disapproval lately. I feel like I can't do anything right. If not, I can wait for prompts to open again.
He only ever hears one side of the conversation, but that’s all he needs to hear to put the pieces together.
“Now’s not a great time, Pop, is Ma okay? I – yeah – yeah, I’m on duty. Yeah, Pop, I know it’s eleven at night. No, come on, I can’t do this right now. Because I love my job, Pop, it’s important, I’m changing the force from the ins– you know what, I don’t – I don’t have time for this, I gotta go. I love you. Yes, of course I do, why the hell would you say something like that? I – hello? Bye to you, too.”
Another night, this time earlier in the evening, the day after Maggie picked up Alex wearing a sharp flannel and massive smile, with a dozen red roses in tow. Winn had insisted on taking their picture, and apparently Maggie had sent it to her parents, because I want them to see how absolutely beautiful my girlfriend is.
“Hey Pop, how you doing? Aw, you did? Isn’t she gorgeous? I – it – I – I think I was in a flannel, wasn’t I? It – yeah, I know I’m not on the farm anymore, trust me, I know – no, Pop – “ J’onn almost doesn’t notice when Maggie switches to Portuguese, having known the language for so long the translation came to his mind just as quickly as the English did – “It’s not just a white girl look, Pop, plenty of self-respecting brown women dress like this, I’m not betraying anyt – well hey, you didn’t see anything wrong with raising me in an all-white town – no, I know you love me, I know you want what’s best for me – “ J’onn blinks when she switches seamlessly back to English – “but maybe what’s best for me is having you actually be happy for me when I send you a picture of me so clearly happy with how my life is right now, instead of calling me to just to criticize my – no, I don’t wanna talk to her right now, I – “
She groans and J’onn lowers his eyes and sighs quietly.
It happens again as she and Alex are gearing up for Alex’s first visit to Blue Springs, which has one of his girls wide-eyed and nervous, and the other both loving and terribly, terribly tense.
“Nah, tell her she doesn’t have to make me anything special, I’ll just whip something up for myself when we get there – yes, Alex will eat what she – because, Pop, I’ve been vegan for years, you’d think you both would get used to it by – well somehow I manage, and Mama is the one who taught me to cook, so if I can figure it out, I – no, you know what, you’re right, I’m sorry, I’m not trying to fight with you, just… just don’t go to any trouble, okay, I’ll work it out when I get there, I – no, I didn’t mean – yes Pop. Yes sir. Yeah. I love you. Bye.”
J’onn doesn’t imagine it would help his newest child much if he flew himself out to Blue Springs and gave Mr. Sawyer a piece of his mind.
And Maggie always slips off into a corner, whisper-shouts instead of shout-shouting, turns her face, her body, away when she gets her father’s calls. And she’s not like Alex, but she is, she is, so he doesn’t want to hurt her pride by bringing it up with her directly. Or violate her privacy, for that matter (though he supposes he can’t very well help what his ears pick up).
So instead, he starts doing small things, saying small things, that he hopes she’ll notice, that he hopes will lift, at least a little, the sad sagging in her shoulders; relieve, at least a little, the tension in her coiled lower back, her fists; soothe, at least a little, the burning tears in her eyes, the raging pit in her stomach, the defeat in her chest.
“You know, Detective Sawyer, since you started liaising with the DEO, our communication with the NCPD has never been better. The increased efficiency is saving a lot of lives; that’s a lot you have to be proud of.”
Alex is – nowadays, anyway – generally the one to blush, to squirm, to fumble over her words. And, true to form, Maggie doesn’t squirm, not exactly, but she stammers a bit and it’s clear she doesn’t know what to say, doesn’t know how to respond, doesn’t know how to feel, doesn’t know what to do with her hands, her eyes, her face.
So she falls back on her training, and she nods, and she says, simply, “Thank you, sir. That… means a lot.”
He covers her shoulder with his hand and she looks almost overcome by the gesture.
And then again, later, the next time he sees her decked out in flannel and sharp pants and a belt of the sort that he’s overhead Winn referring to as gloriously gay, he makes sure he smiles at her. He clears his throat, because if what he’s about to say is going to be uncomfortable for her, it’s even moreso for him, but that doesn’t matter, because she deserves to hear it from a potentially father-type figure.
So he clears his throat once, twice, and before she can ask if he wants some water, he forces out, “You look particularly sharp today, Detective. Agent Danvers is fortunate to have a woman as beautiful as you.”
“J’onn, are you hitting on Alex’s girlfriend?”
“Oh, leave the man alone, Schott, just because he knows how to compliment a woman better than you do,” Maggie quips through her smile ,through her deep, deep blush. She reaches up to put her hand on J’onn’s shoulder, this time, and he’s sure that as she walks away, it’s with a straighter spine and a prouder strut.
And when it’s one of the rookie agent’s birthdays and Kara insists on throwing him a little party, it’s J’onn who takes Maggie aside to make sure she knows that there are three different flavors of vegan ice cream, just for her.
“You know, when I first arrived on this planet, I was startled by how many human cultures emphasize animal flesh as their major culinary staples. Since then I’ve deeply appreciated humans who can see part their society, to a different sort of ethics.”
Maybe it’s because she and Alex didn’t get much sleep the night before, so her guard is lower than it might otherwise be; maybe it’s because J’onn’s eyes are as soft and as warm as his voice is awkward and gruff; or maybe it’s because her own father’s words are still stinging so sharply, so loudly, so painfully, in her ears; or maybe it’s all of it, everything, because suddenly Maggie is leaning up on her tip toes and she’s reaching her arms up and she’s burying her face in J’onn’s chest.
He only hesitates for a brief, startled moment before he wraps his arms around her, too, one of his hands covering the entire small of her back.
“Thank you, J’onn,” she’s whispering, and he catches Alex’s wet smile from across the room over Maggie’s head.
“Thank you, Maggie. Thank you for giving my girls – both of them – such happiness. We are all… truly lucky to have you in our lives.”
And now, if Maggie doesn’t know what to say, it’s because her body is speaking her gratitude for her, and J’onn nods when Alex mouths her thanks at him, because he means it; even in times like these, they’re still lucky, because they have, somehow, against all odds and probabilities, found each other.

Supergirl S2: United we stand, divided we fall (aka Strong Together)
The past few days I've heard several people tell me that they have or are considering to stop watching Supergirl and just enjoying the gifsets that tumblr throws at them. I can't say I'm surprised, but it does sadden me at how much the show has changed. It's a shame because I know people still enjoy the characters and (most of) their relationships. I think we all know why, but it's Sunday and if you know me, I tend to ramble on Sunday. I've been meaning to give a review of the first half of the second season and now seems as good a time as any.
Now, Supergirl has been all but a perfect show. Season 1 had its flaws: the writing was wonky in places, throwing characterisation overboard to fit the plot and the pacing of the season was terrible. There was something there, however, that had many of us turning in. (More than an amazing cast.) Supergirl was a story of hope. It was a story centred around the women in the show and their journey of becoming heroes. It was a story about found family and how after losing everything, it is still possible to heal when you open your heart for the people around you. At the heart of the show were Kara, Alex and J'onn. The three people who formed the core of the show and who despite the conflict thrown at them, were always there for each other. Stronger together.
When the show changed channels, we all saw the writings on the walls. We all held our breaths as marketing didn't seem to realise what it was that made people tune in. While the second season started a little shakily, by the third episode I was appeased. The show was still there, the Danvers sisters were fighting side by side, still being each other's back up and then…
I miss the old days where ships were a thing that happened in the background. When subtext was what had us rooted to our screens, or what we could easily ignore when we aren't interested. Romance has been the bane of this season. But Jara, I hear you say, romance was present even in season one. You're right, and it was a tad embarrassing how many men the show threw at Kara, but it also always went back to the heart of the show. Take the finale. James and Kara get their screen time, but when the action is going, when the chips were down, it was the found family that ran through everything. The show told us how much Kara cared about everyone in her own unique way. It was J'onn who walked out with Kara to defend this earth that had become his new home. It was Kara who struggled to say goodbye to Alex, and Alex who refused to give her up. Where movies and other shows would have focussed on the romance, this show put family at its heart. Romance was secondary. Kara was learning to become Kara Zor-El before anything else. Being a girlfriend was second or third.
Much has changed since then, and nothing was more painful to me than seeing the last episode and having Kara say she always has to fight alone. She's almost desperate to have Mon-El become a superhero was so she would have someone with powers fighting at her side, conveniently forgetting that J'onn had always been there, that Alex will fly into space or jump to an alien planet to get her back. In that one sentence, the show summarised exactly what has been wrong with its second season: romance is no longer second place. It has become first place and found family is taking a backseat to everything else.
It took them ten episodes to give us a decent moment between Kara, Alex and J'onn. You could argue that this is natural, that conflict keeps things interesting and we'll get there in the end. I have no doubt that we'll see glimpses of our found alien family, but this used to be the glue that held everything together. Stronger together has been hollowed out as Kara, Alex and J'onn are isolated in their own stories and their lines seldom cross.
The Danvers sisters rarely get moments together, and when they do, it's generally to talk about the romance. Alex is no longer Kara's mentor. They don't hit the training mats anymore, and while they're still supportive and the actors make certain that we see their bond, the show is no longer putting it central to its story telling.
Kara has become isolated, her actions more and more fuelled by protecting Mon-El and getting him to become the hero she thinks he should be. While this could be an interesting take, after all, it might be evidence of Kara struggling to go back to not having Clark there, this is not what it's about. It's not Kara's struggle, but it is Mon-El's. That in itself wouldn't be so bad if only Kara did have her own storyline, but she doesn't. We don't see Kara growing as a superhero, she's trampling in place and getting isolated as the show puts her in function of Mon-El. Meanwhile James is learning to be a superhero as well, which in a way removes how Winn and James would be what reminded Kara what it was like to be human.
Now, CatCo has always grated on me so I admit that I was glad to hear Cat Grant was gone. I was hoping her removal would mean that the show would have an easier time to balance out Kara's plot. The division between the DEO and CatCo was always superficial to me and diluted storylines where it shouldn't have. Episode 3 to me is the best example at how well the lesser attention to CatCo works. Sadly, TPTB seem to enjoy juggling too many storylines at once and we're still getting too much plot crammed into one. I keep being reminded of @racethewind10's mantra: this show needs to pick character over plot. My hope was that less CatCo would help with this, but so many new characters have been added, each with their own separate storyline that it hasn't happened. Character moments are so rushed and hamfisted in its delivery, it's almost painful to watch.
While the plot was suffering in season 1 as well, we got some amazing character moments. I'm thinking of Kara facing the robber without her powers, Alex screaming and begging at Kara to come back to her, Alex and Kara supporting J'onn as his past comes back to haunt him. There were so many strong moments that were truly moving, but season two has had very little… The few we did have were tied to Alex and her journey of self-discovery. They were delivered between Kara and Alex.
The difference between how Kara and James were treated versus how Kara and Mon-El is treated is huge, where James was always a player in Kara's story, this isn't the case now. Never mind how the change in romance was handled. I actually could completely understand when Kara broke up with James. Her realisation that she needed to find herself first fitted well. I bought it and could actually applaud it. However, that character moment (one of the last Kara was allowed) was completely retconned when TPTB decided to throw Kara at the next available guy that crossed her path.
How can we believe that after barely any time between her breakup, Kara who had no other character development whatsoever, can suddenly come back and be interested in Mon-El. Such is life? Perhaps, sometimes loves hits us at the most awkward moments, but the way Kara has been treating him like a little brother (or a replacement for Kal-El) to suddenly this arc where Kara is only fighting for him and can only think of Mon-El as her backup when the going gets tough… It comes out of nowhere and is completely out of character for the girl who would always turn to her found family and would live by the creed of Stronger Together.
It's true that Kara has been isolated, however. J'onn is a bit in a world of his own and Alex has her own romance story that has been monopolising her time, and here lies the rub. I don't want to make light of the importance of Alex's character development (at least she has some). Representation matters and the message the show is sending with Alex is powerful and so much needed. I want to look beyond this for a moment, however, because this has been another key part of how the show has changed.
Alex's romance is not a natural development within the show. We all knew Alex was gay without needing to be told, but the show runners decided to treat this as a completely new discovery. That in itself should not be a problem, but they brought in a completely new character who has no other purpose to fill than to be Alex's love interest. As a series regular, this is problematic because Maggie had no natural place within the storyline. She's a cop and has no ties to anyone else. To make this work, TPTB changed the universe of our show (I'm sure there's more it than that, but it does seem to be a part of it). Maggie knows about aliens, has been friendly towards them all her life and has a job at the NCPD handling said aliens. That's the common ground the worked into the show to have Maggie and Alex meet.
However, in order for them to continue meeting, they had to come up with ways to have Maggie show up. So what happened is that Alex and Maggie got their own plot, separate from everyone else's. Kara would get drawn in occasionally (because you really can't separate those two completely), but for the most part, Maggie's only point of contact with anyone else is Alex. Furthermore, to have an excuse to have Maggie around, the role of the DEO has been lessened and with it, J'onn's role as well. Now imagine if the show had used Lucy or Vasquez and given a more natural progression for Alex's self-discovery, where the romance would fit right into the main plot and not water down the importance of the DEO.
Instead Alex gets her own storylines while Kara and the others have their own. While I love seeing a different side to Alex, it means that she was effectively replaced in the main Kara storyline by either Winn (when it involves science) or James and Mon-El when it comes to fighting scenes. Alex's relationship with J'onn got watered down as she no longer was there for much of the big plots, and Alex no longer is Kara's main backup. Yes, there's been exceptions, but this is a trend where the men replace Alex as our kicking ass human hero.
After all, James is now the human who gets to beat up bad guys and wants to make the world a better place. M'gann and Kara have had a stronger bond with J'onn than Alex does. Danvers sister moments are replaced by Alex hanging out with Maggie. While this might balance out as Alex's sexuality becomes a simple fact rather than a huge revelation, I'm not confident that we're going to return there. After all, Mon-El has been slowly taking over Alex's role when it comes to Kara. Alex was always the one with one foot in reality, evening Kara's goodness and innocence out. (Remember her threatening Lord.) Slowly the show has been pushing Mon-El to take that position because Alex is too tied up in being in love.
Don't get me wrong, I love seeing Alex happy. I love that we got such a positive storyline on television. I love the moments when Kara gets to be supportive of Alex. I want Alex to actually think of herself for once, but that does not negate the fact that it's another part that has the glue of our show crumbling down.
Alex's romance story has effectively removed her from the main plot where she used to be at the centre with Kara. Do you remember how many times they'd end up fighting and checking in at the middle of the fight to make sure the other is okay? We've had so little of these moments because Alex basically rarely gets to be there anymore as the side characters take up her space.
The show has screwed itself over by bringing in too many new characters and wanting to tell too many stories at once (the latter is an old issue that's gotten worse). They've separated the main three characters from each other and have removed what was the heart of the show. It's still there, but less so and the moments that we should see are rushed or simply don't happen because a romance scene gets precedence over them now.
Supergirl is simply not the same show anymore. Kara was a different superhero. Not only because she's a woman, but because she knew she shouldn't do this alone. Because she had her friends around her, her found family, which kept her going and saw her through. She was working through so much pain and suffering, but she managed to hold on to her kindness.
Supergirl was a show about Kara, but they're trying to turn it into an ensemble show where the female heroes are defined by their romance stories and the men learn how to be heroes. That's not the show I signed up for. That's not the show I fell in love with. I am disappointed and saddened any time I see those pictures of all those little girls excited to meet Melissa Benoist, to meet Supergirl. I am saddened because they deserve better and so do we.
#supergirl#kara danvers#alex danvers#not gonna tag all the characters#but this involves kara and alex a lot#if you can't take criticism of mon-fuckboy then do skip this#this is not anti the maggie romance but it is critical of its role in the series#so proceed with caution there as well#metabending#needed to get this off my chest#and yes this is kinda tl;dr

Patient Zero (Part I)
A/N: Hi, everyoneeeee. Here’s another one for you! A little attempt on the Zombie trope. Let me know what you think :D
Lena Luthor x Zombie!Reader//Word Count: 1,329//Full Text
00:00. Play.
