this crew sees Izzy as the figurehead of their ship — the figurehead of a ship “represents not only the eyes of the ship guiding them safely home but also the spirit of the vessel as well”

to the crew, Izzy — not Stede or Ed — is the spirit of the Revenge

and why not? he’s always been the representative of the crew to the captain of the ship, and at some point he stopped living for Ed and started fully living for the crew, keeping them as safe as possible from Ed’s madness

The different Steddyhands dynamics are so funny.

Stede and Ed do this cute little dancing around each other courtship thing with fabrics and candlelit dinners and You Wear Fine Things Well.

Ed and Izzy have this achy horny tender codependent hateful loving dynamic. They're the most divorced unmarried and the most married unmarried people on the seven seas. I have love for you I loved you best I could ouch ouch ouch.

Meanwhile Stede and Izzy are like. Fuck NASTY in the first chapter. Complete bitch4bitch energy. Izzy calls Stede a stupid motherfucker in front of seven other crew members with a mouth that still tastes like Stede's balls. The girls are fightiiiing. 'Don't look at my fucking boner when we fight' only they're BOTH hard and they're BOTH looking. And then Stede shows Izzy one (1) tenderness and it all falls apart.

i just wanna talk about the parallels between 1x05 and 2x07 for a minute

so both episodes start with them trying each other's thing. Stede learning how to be a real pirate and Ed trying to be a gentleman and make a nice(ish) breakfast.

thennnn we get to the meat of the episode & stede and ed each expect that they'll be the center of attention for the aristocrats and pirates, respectively

but! it ends up being the other way around!

sooo they're just absolutely killing it in front of all these people, having a great fuckin time and fitting in

they get to be a little silly and goofy :)

then, they have a little talk, saying yeah this seems great, but you need to be careful because these people can be unpredictable.

and as soon as they're apart, there's a conflict. i want to say that both conflicts happen bc they don't really understand the group but tbh i have no idea why stede did that

and everything goes to absolute shit

and then everything goes to even more absolute shit. ships on fire.

in 1x05 ofc they go back and have their "you wear fine things well" moment but in 2x07 they're separated and we just have to sit with it :(

Thinking about modern AU Izzy Hands who’s kind of a known dick online. One day he starts going around curtly apologizing to people he’s argued with, sometimes going back to months’ old forum debates and video comments. It finally comes out that he got a dom who’s making him do this as part of their dynamic (Izzy having to “break bad habits” and “learn good behavior” and there’s bit of humiliation involved for sure) because they show up in a couple comment threads to publicly call him a good boy or correct him if things heat up again.

and even when i read ouizzy or sprizzy or fang/ivan/izzy fics etc where izzy is happy while stede and ed are doing their own thing, i'm always a little sad in the back of my mind like 'ed and stede... they don't know?? they don't know the love of izzy?? no kissing first mate??? :((('

(don't get me started on how difficult straight up stede/ed fics are to dig through sometimes, i love the ship to death truly i do, she's the main girlie, but forget crying over where izzy is in their dynamic, i gotta go Entire Work and CTRL+F search izzy's name throughout the fic just to make sure his character isn't getting massacred disney villain style before i get invested in a 50k+ fic at 2am)

my ideal world is one where stede/ed/izzy have sorted their shit out, izzy and frenchie are music boyfriends, izzy shacks up with lucius and pete sometimes for some kissing bitching and gossiping sessions, and izzy and fang have cuddle sessions on the regular

all this ofc alongside archie/jim/olu/zheng's whole thing, whatever frenchie and wee john have going on, lucius' thing with fang, and jackie's continuing recruitment of new husbands to join the swede

in my heart polycrew is real and thriving, we could have had it all dammit
