LBFAD x Tangled AU requested by @harocat as part of the "CDrama Gotcha for Gaza" (@cdrama-action). I loved this prompt, and while my first instinct was to adapt the Lucheng scene, in my mind dfqc and xlh get to enjoy lantern festivals in Cangyan Sea once they're married🌙

prompt: DFQC/XLH Tangled AU. Hanfu-ize the canon Tangled costumes to fit the Cdrama theme. You can just go with standard hanfu (the mortal realm in LBFAD appears to be Tang Dynasty, but you can do what you want), or you can try to match them to the styles of Cangyan Sea and/or Shuiyuntian.

⭑ synopsis: this series follows kyuin as she experiences the complexities of the korean entertainment world, and her encounters with two idols who arouse in her a strange interest.

kyuin liked to think she understood the world. she was the kind of person who couldn't stop obsessing about the reason behind everything, to analyze in detail how humans and the society they live in work, or why the wind blows in different directions or why fruits are the color they are. she didn't intend to have the absolute knowledge, her interest came from the mere instinct of survival, from wanting to understand how things are so she could adapt to the ones that would help her cope with living in a community and avoid that which could ruin her life. she tried hard to decipher the generics of the universe, but she could bear the fact that there were details that would escape her, rules, behaviors, phenomena whose origin she would never discover, she had made the passes with it, she just needed to be certain that they happened and how it was appropriate to respond to these, or if they were right or wrong.

beyond the big picture, there were insignificant and mediocre attitudes or creations that she couldn't come to grips with either, like alcohol, for example. she understood why people enjoyed drinking it, yes, but why did it have to be so bitter? why did it have to burn your throat as it passed through it?

kyuin didn't have a problem with it, she didn't mind others ingesting it and being blinded by it until they lost lucidity, she could find logical explanations for them doing such a thing, but it definitely wasn't her thing. kyuin didn't drink, honestly, it wasn't because she cared about her health, it was that she simply didn't like the taste or the fear that she might exceed her inhibitions, ending up doing something stupid while intoxicated and eventually embarrassing herself about it.

but she also knew that there were certain times when one had to make an effort, to resist during something one doesn't like, and when her friends, who were also her group mates, had convinced her to attend a meeting at the apartment of one of the previously iz*one members, she knew she would have to do something to make it through the night.

it wasn't that she never left her house, even if it was sporadically, she did. apart from work, of course, she often went out with minjeong or the novaHIVI members, who would sometimes take her to get-togethers with their friends, with whom she felt comfortable interacting even if she wasn't that close to them. however, this time was different, it was one of those situations where she ended up knowing that she didn't know 90% of the guests.

"a gathering," well, admittedly it wasn't properly a party, but what kind of "gathering" included 60+ celebrities drinking and listening to music? in kyuin's mind a "gathering" could reach a maximum of 15 guests and consisted of quietly chatting while eating something delicious. when chaeryeong and xiaojun invited her, she had noticed something strange in the way they explained it, they knew her and she knew them, their members were astute and realized that they had to disguise the reality of the event so that the girl would decide to attend, while kyuin was perceptive enough to notice that they were being vague in their description and avoiding to dwell on the particulars.

but they managed to convince her, with the words 'meeting,' 'casual,' 'quiet.' a big part of how she had ended up at the place was that minjeong had commented to her that she would also be attending, and asked her to go, reminding her of her meager social life and hermit-like behaviors.

kyuin, who thought about the reason for things all the time, was clear that her routine of going to get exploited, id est, going to work, and then locking herself back in her house was not good for her mental health, and in fact, to some extent, it had already started to affect her. so she had decided that she would attend what was supposed to be a relaxed gathering of friends with some drinking in between where her best friend would be so she could turn to her in case she didn't feel comfortable in the social setting.

but she had seen winter when she arrived and lost her shortly after greeting her because she disappeared into the crowd while talking to other acquaintances. luckily she had her five members there who, even if they spent time with their own friends, would take responsibility for having brought their extremely introverted mate into a situation they were aware was not her preference, and they would never leave her alone.

they were together around the archway area overlooking the kitchen, striking up a conversation with some of their peers, while simultaneously keeping their attention on han, who stood at the end of it, with her arms crossed and a frown on her face, staring at a bottle of beer as if she were trying to drink it with her eyes.

"it's disturbing." spoke xiaojun towards the rest of the gang, all with their eyes glued to kyuin.

"it's depressing." contradicted chaeryeong.

"let her be, the woman hates to leave her house." opined ten. "and humans." he added.

"we have to do something." added matthew and then took a sip of his drink. "help her have fun."

"we brought her here and told her where the drinks were when she asked us." recapped the chinese from the end of the semi-round they were on. "i don't think she'll let us do more than that." he shrugged.

"no." interjected lily. "we have to make the best out of one of the few times she comes out to touch some grass." she spoke with exaggerated frustration.

"we're on a tenth floor in the middle of gangnam, lily, what grass are you talking about?" refuted the thai.

"you understand me." she discarded him, waving her hand dismissively.

"not really." he shook his head in confusion.

"got you." assured the canadian.

"thanks, bro." the youngest of the group gave him a grateful pat on the back. "what i mean is," she picked up on the previous topic. "she doesn't go out much, i want this one time she did to not regret it." she showed sympathy in her words. "for her to have interesting experiences to tell."

"well, you're right." agreed the only korean in the group. "i feel a little sorry for her."

"chaeryeong!" reproached ten.

"she still haven't opened the bottle, chitta!" she exclaimed hot-headedly, punctuating each word with impetus. "she's getting on my nerves!"

"she doesn't like alcohol!" passionately defended the maknae. "she's trying, okay?" she squeezed the bridge of her nose between her index finger and thumb in aggravation.

"we have to intervene, she's losing too many aura points." proposed the blond-haired boy.

"too many what?" the leader looked at him blankly.

"sometimes i feel like you pick random words and say them together just because." the blackhaired girl looked at them with a raised eyebrow.

"they're two old geezers." the younger male accused.

"they're not that old." defended xiao, extending the 'that.' "it's just that they don't know how to use the internet." he explained, earning a hit on the shoulder from chaeryeong.

"because they're old." repeated the boy, causing the eldest of his hyungs to look at him with annoyance. "what do we do with nuna?" he turned his attention back to kyuin, who at least now held the bottle in her hands.

"what if...?" began dejun. "no, it won't work." he paused.

"now say it, i'm curious." encouraged the australian.

"it's nothing, it's stupid." he dismissed again.

"speak up." chaeryeong ordered.

"it's a bad plan-"

"talk." she reiterated with a serious and demanding tone, scaring the guy.

"okay, damn." the vocalist looked her up and down with a raised eyebrow judging her coarse attitude. "i thought," he paused to formulate the sentence before saying it. "that maybe it would be interesting to look for someone, you know..." he waved his hands in the air euphorically at the attentive gaze of the group, intending that this was how they understood. "so they do lesbian stuff together." he summed up.

"it's terrible." deliberated chaeryeong.

"you want to put nuna's introverted ass to flirt with a stranger?" he questioned wryly.

"i think we shouldn't meddle in kyuin's love life." analyzed the eldest of them all. "it's her thing, she's a very closed person with her emotions." he sipped from his glass.

"it's a fantastic idea!" exclaimed lily hogging the spotlight.

"i don't think you heard the plan correctly." interjected the other girl.

"think about it." she rested her index fingers on either side of her temple, indicating to her brain. "since how long has kkyu not been with a girl?"

"since xiaoting." the blond remembered.

"hey." the leader called out. "don't say the x word." he scolded him. "but," he returned to the thread of conversation. "kyuin isn't with anyone because she doesn't want to be, it's her choice."

"kyuin isn't with anyone because she refuses to feel things." corrected dejun. "you know, because of voldemort."

"the x word." agreed the korean.

"a casual one-night stand doesn't have to include feelings." reasoned the chinese.

"he has a point." valid the younger boy.

"see?" resumed lily. "it's not a bad plan."

a strange back-and-forth of glances began among the five, while the leader was distracted watching kyuin, xiaojun, matthew and lily looked at chaeryeong waiting for approval, as if they could not proceed without her blessing on the plan. the dancer rolled her eyes, thought for a second and finally ended up nodding her head with a defeated expression, she had to admit that something had to be done to make sure her bandmate got out of the routine she was in and allowed herself to enjoy more things. once they had her support, the four of them stared at chittaphon, who, upon feeling the eyes on him turned around dumbfounded.

"what?" he wandered his eyes over them in bewilderment. "the decision falls on me?" they all said yes with their heads at the same time like a bunch of meerkats. "it seems like a stupid and invasive plan to me." he confessed, adopting a serious posture. "but every cloud has a silver lining." he relented, getting the rest to cheer.

then he says the group is not a hierarchy.

"so," seok stepped forward. "what's the plan?"

"first we have to make her drink that bottle of beer for once before i shove it down her throat."

"chaeryeong!" reprimanded ten.

"i swear i love her." she justified.

"once she's in a good mood we introduce her to a cute girl and make them kiss." concluded lily putting a hand on her waist and flashing a winning smile. "easy."

"i hope you understand the consequences of your statements." chaeryeong pointed a finger accusingly at her.

"maybe if she loosens up a little and feels more comfortable she'll go along with the idea." thought dejun. "we just need to introduce her to someone she likes."

"she doesn't like anyone." realized chittaphon.

"she likes winter." reasoned matthew. "do you think winter is secretly in love with kyuin?" his expression turned to one that showed puzzlement.

"i have more sexual tension with chittaphon than winter and kyuin." oposed lee.

"hey." the center of the discussion appeared, approaching their group with the beer bottle still full, looking out of place and bored. "i don't think this is for me." she raised the drink.

"just drink that thing already." the ravenhead could no longer stand the uneasiness the older woman's hesitation generated in her and rushed over to help her, a bit aggressively, to drink the beverage.

"i'm sure that's a crime." mused xiaojun staring at them.

"kyuin." named the leader catching both of their attention, making them stop tussling. "we were discussing something." he announced, kyuin cocked her head curiously. "we want you to have fun tonight and unique experiences." he found himself making jazz hands as if he was trying to sell her a trip to disneyland.

"the mere fact that i'm here is already a unique experience." assessed the girl, disinterested.

"but we want you to go home thinking that tonight was different, real different." lily elaborated.

"guys," the vocalist's face suddenly showed horror. "drugs are illegal."

"no, you idiot, not drugs." the only other korean member of the group took advantage of her closeness to her from fighting earlier and held her by her shoulders as if she were her guide. "the warmth of a woman."

"i am a woman and it's hot tonight." disputed han.

"how about we become your wingmen for the night?" now it was xiaojun who hung on her shoulders on the side that was free. "point out some girl you find attractive and we'll do our best to make you two end up together."

"you don't have to fall in love and get married, nuna." matthew tried to soften the ridiculousness of the propose. "it's just a casual thing." he explained.

"you guys be saying bullshit." she concluded.

That reblog of Aaron Philip brought up a question for me - how often do wheelchair users need to sacrifice/adjust their personal style for safety in their chair? Would it make sense to have a character try to integrate their chair into their fashion, or would it be too unrealistic with all the moving parts and the risk of fabric getting caught in something? I'm picturing someone dressing up their chair in matching vibes (maybe some draped fabric to match their evening dress) but I don't know if that would be seen as too risky/not worth it.

[Post in question for context] We actually just answered an ask here about decorating wheelchairs, and so many people decorate them to their style and fashion sense!

The sacrifice of Function and/or Fashion is becoming less because more brands and people are making Accessible functional fashion. Iz adaptive is one brand that comes up for that and they even have a whole page on why clothes are different for wheelchair users and how to make it accessible. This doesn't mean It is not still a constant problem but it is slowly getting better. Genetech did a fashion show for people with SMA, and what I like about that video is that with each person they put up a card with what alterations were made to make the clothes accessible for each individual.

And on that, often a lot of time we also know how to alter or mend our own clothes too (or we have a close person/loved one who does it for us). This is partly why the disabled community and the Fiber arts community tend to intermingle a lot also.

If you're doing something more extravagant, with flowy draped fabric that hangs past the wheels, sacrificing function for fashion may happen, but also a lot of pictures that do have that long fabric over them are usually just for photoshoots. They're ways to make it accessible for functionality though! Tieing up the fabric is one way, altering the way the fabric sits/falls, or even removing underlayers of volume can help decrease the weight or length of the fabric. Sewing buttons and buttonholes into it so you can pin the fabric up is another; or even just carrying some safety pins and pinning it up that way too.

One example that I can think of is at Pride Parades actually! A lot of people drape or pin flags on the back of their wheelchairs. Sometimes it drags, sometimes you snag the edges of it, a lot of times it's turning to your friend and going "It's not dragging too much right?". If someone/a character is doing the same sorta thing, where they knowingly put hanging fabric that they know may drag or snag, usually your just very vigilant and (if their able too) constantly checking on it/moving it out of the way, I would say it's likely someone may risk functionality for fashion.

I would recommend looking up stuff like "Wheelchair fashion" or "disabled fashion" because there is so many people who do so many cool things. Find disabled models who do photoshoots, or disabled actors/actresses is another way too!

Sailor Moon Thought 4! Sera Myu Power Make Up!

We have the anime! We have the failed American-ized version of Saban Moon! We have the live-action adaptation in the 2000s! What else is left for these sailor guardians? Ah, yes! The live shows! Since during the 90s of Sailor Moon's success, there were multiple live stage show musicals preferred to as, Sera Myu! Several of these stage performances decided to take on original stories to keep audiences interested rather than just repeatedly going over the story arcs we've all learned to remember. I hadn't known about these musicals until a few years ago and I've recently decided to take a look at a couple from the past. They're actually a lot of fun. A few of the musicals actually have our sailor guardians battle against vampires! There's also your goofy side-villains, fun side-characters, and fun songs. To this day, Sailor Moon is still not off the stage so if anyone has any plans on seeing a show, then no harm in giving it a try!

i want to read ORV, but where do I start - i see the novel fan TLs and the official webtoon adaptation - which path? i am not afraid of words.

It's perfectly fine to read the webtoon first and then the novel as a sort of visualizer, + its always nice to go that route so the adaptation changes don't piss you off. I never got that far into it because I wasn't really connecting with it. I skipped ahead to the most recent chapters and it's still great at communicating the action so I give it a 👍

The webnovel is definitely the de facto method of consuming ORV; the entire story is fundamentally structured around the novel format, and Kim Dokja's narration becomes more and more of a character in of itself around 25% through and maintains that presence through the entire series. Any format besides Novel is intrinsically a downgrade because of this. But now is a great time to do a webtoon->webnovel reading order, because the webtoon is currently at the exact arc where you start needing to be inside Kim Dokja's twisted little mind (Dark Castle).

The Webnovel website (BOO HISS) took down ORV, presumably in anticipation of Ize Press' release highlighting how awful the speed-TL work they used is. Remember, of course, that ORV's first volume is 200k words and it's only been a year, so the licensed translation will still take a while.

In the meantime, there is the ebook. It's beautifully formatted, and creates a consistency across the novel the unedited original translation never had. I have it on my e-reader and its been all I've been reading for the past month.

i'm a little over halfway through my reread of dracula (first read it like twenty years ago) and the deeper i get in the more i feel certain that the dracula adaptation we need is a tv miniseries

not like that netflix one from a few years ago, where they change and add a bunch of things and go into dracula's background and other stuff, or like any of the over-the-top and wildly hollywood-ized movies

but a highly book-accurate adaptation, a slow-build victorian period piece, where the regular every-day characters go about their business but stranger and stranger mysterious things keep happening, interspersed with sudden moments of supernatural horror, all from their point of view and never from any of the monsters, because dracula and the other terrors he spawns are unknowlable creatures of dread, alien and other, and should remain so, all building up to the action-y and high stakes ending
