While I do think a lot of teams are now considering younger talent as opposed to sticking with a safer pair of hands in experienced drivers, I do not at all believe it's what happened with Red Bull and Daniel.
The timing was, however, a coincidence.
This push and pull between Marko and Horner has been happening since they signed Nyck De Vries, which Marko wanted, and Horner didn't. They also needed to rebrand the team and get sponsors. Bayer admitted that before the rebrand, they considered selling the team. How okay the sponsors will be with the backtrack from it being a sister team to it being a junior team, only time will tell.
But for Red Bull, having Max who, despite the achievements and experience, still very much has time and age on his side meant that they didn't need to put emphasize on their development program. Max was doing the job (he still is) all they needed was a safe pair of hands in that second seat. That safe pair of hands did not come from a driver within their pool, and it was okay. That safe pair of hands isn't so safe anymore 😫 but there are other benefits. The wdc is gone, they're at a risk of losing p2 as well.
But I think the bigger issue is that they are ALSO at a risk of eventually losing Max. So suddenly, their redundant junior program has relevancy again.
This is suggested by what Horner said in that podcast. Liam is not guaranteed, he was just next in line. They need to know whether he is worth keeping for the long run or if they need to swiftly move on to Iwasa, Hadjar and Lindblad. They need to know who their best shot at coming close to replicating what they have in Max is.
We must keep in mind that Liam is their own. They had every possible data on him and still chose Nyck after a single race.
Ferrari has Ollie, who will be in the Haas. Mclaren has Norris and Oscar, and Mercedes has Antonelli.
I think considering everything that's happening, there's a very real possibility that they needed to stop planning for the replacement of Perez and start preparing to replace Max.
The team is a ticking time bomb, they could have move on from Perez and moved Daniel/Yuki up until the end of the year because even if you think Daniel is washed up, you cannot deny that both he and Yuki have performed better than Perez for multiple races in a car far inferior.
This wasn't a performance thing because if Daniel wasn't performing, what happened to all the praise they were giving Yuki, surely he was performing like they expected?
Markos' recent words showcase just how high a bar they had set for Daniel. He was expected to put in p4-7 performances regularly while the main team is barely hanging on to podiums.
Choosing to focus on the points between Daniel and Yuki is also incorrect because the car is no longer a points scoring car.
So in general, Alex may be right. Teams are moving on to new, younger talent but I do not think it's what prompted this swap with Red Bull.
I also do not think Daniel was "fired," they dangled a carrot in front of his face, and he walked away because that's the only explanation as to why they sound so bitter. Daniel posted, and he kept quiet after that, Horner and Marko keep going on.

hey jaimie, i just saw an AMuS article (saw junaid samodian on twitter post this) about daniel being recommended to other teams? https://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/formel-1/red-bull-junioren-talente-hadjar-lindblad-iwasa/
Tumblr media
Honestly I wouldn't put too much weight on this article at the moment. I think AMuS (and in particular this journalist) seems to still be putting too much focus and weight on Marko's statements, considering that most reliable reports have reiterated that he no longer has the decision-making power within the team.
The entire premise of the article and how the Red Bull/VCarb seats will be decided seems to be based off of Helmut's statement about the shareholders reasserting that RB is to return to a junior team. And while Bayer/Mekies and others have talked about the importance of continuing to nurture young talent, they've both stated it won't come at the expense of the team's success (both sporting and financial). While I can see them putting one new junior on the team, there's fuck all chance (as this article tries to suggest), that they're going to have two complete rookies at VCarb in 2025.
Plus, given Horner's recent statements on Yuki, and the overwhelming accounts of Yuki just not being considered for a RBR seat, I think it's pretty safe to say that Yuki being Max's teammate in 2025 is pretty unlikely.
I think if Red Bull are shopping anyone around to Audi it's Lawson, and The Race and others have suggested there are ongoing talks between Lawson's management and Audi.
I don't think it makes sense from Red Bull's POV to be shopping Daniel around. If they don't have a seat for him in 2025 they don't have to take up their option on him - so then what do they gain from trying to find him another seat. I also don't really think Daniel would be happy just anywhere on the grid. Honestly I don't think the Wlliiams rumours were as farfetched as some other Daniel fans seem to, even if it was simply a bargaining chip to get RBR to take up the option for next year. Although I do wonder if maybe Daniel has insider info on Newey's next move - in which case Williams with a Merc powerunit and Newey in 2026 could be an interesting proposition for him. I don't think Daniel would want to be at Audi with Key/Seidl, and given the McL experience and the total shitshow that Sauber/Audi seems to be for now I think that's absolutely the right call.
All in all seems a lot more like Marko-fed silly season fanfiction than anything to be concerned about.

Truly believe that this ‘test’ that is happening on Wednesday is just a PR front to make it seem like they are considering other drivers in place of SP when in reality they have already made their decision….why would they need to get data on Daniel in an old AT/his VCARB car when they have 14 races worth of his race data and all of his data from his RB19 test last year…..
EDIT: In my ops…this is a shootout. But not for DR or for Yuki, but rather the two rookies of LL and Iwasa 🫣 Liam didn’t impress in his Silverstone test so if anyone needs to do well, it’s him hehehehe

Little theory that I dont know if it has been brought up before... paul to red bull maybe? Aside from the photo from the fan zone where there is a red bull water bottle, I saw hes sponsored by porsche, like porsche Estonia. And maybe im crazy cause i can swear theres a link between red bull and porsche (probably cause of mark webber). But it would make no sense for paul to go to red bull since they already have so many juniors and only one seat available in f1. Like theres Liam, Is*ck, pepe, tim tramnitz, oliver goethe, ayumu iwasa, arvid... way too many for just a seat. The situation isnt changing with red bull or racing bulls anytime soon in my opinion so why would paul sign with them?
okay so i have thought about this many many times and like. as much as i think rbr is a good place to be, i also think it's a horrible place to be. so many dropped juniors who are just left all alone. so many juniors who will never see a rb car (or vcarb for that matter) from the inside bcs helmut or christian or whoever's making the actual calls likes to do very irrational things. like, even if paul were to join, where would that put him in the ranks? behind max, first of all. behind perez who they enjoy keeping there for god knows what reason. behind yuki. behind daniel (?). behind liam. likely behind ayumu and is*ck – and possibly even behind arvid lindblad who i assume they will be pushing to get f1-ready as soon as possible (if he keeps this up). and as you say, they also have pepe, tim, ollie (who's been doing really well imo, idk how he's that far down the ranks but anyway) 🤷‍♀️
but the red bull bottle in the fanzone & the porsche connection are v interesting!!! 🤭
but guys... do you know what i thought about in the shower...........
paul to... not red bull, not mercedes, not williams..... but FERRARI ????
OKAY HEAR ME OUT HERE. here's the thought process: i was thinking about ollie in f1. stuff we love to see. then i thought about dino, and being completely heartbroken over the fact that he hasn't performed as well this season as everyone was hoping (YET !!!! still a lot left of the season, i know!!!!!!!!!). and i thought about how if there's anyone in the world i want to get an f1 seat, it's dino. sorry paul and pepe and everyone else but my swedish man........
yeah so anyway, then i went "but if ferrari doesn't have dino to push into f1 in the next 2-3 years... who will it be?" because if they wanted rob in the seat, they would've put him in already. i love him, but i don't think he will be an f1 driver anytime soon. and who else do they have? the next fda member under dino is rafa, who's doing a lovely job in freca of course, but it's still very very far away.
imagine it's 2026; lewis hamilton has retired after just one year at ferrari (fought too much with their golden child charles, or just lost the passion for racing or something); ollie bearman gets his seat. a haas seat is empty. will it go to dino, who spent one year in f2 and possibly did well? or will it go to paul aron, the boy who joined fda mid-2024, who won the f2 championship in his rookie year (or came second in his rookie season and then won in his second year), who's been a loyal and good reserve driver and also came with valuable feedback and good insights when helping out with the sim?
please tell me you see the vision guys because im....... 😭

Adding onto my Vampire Yukierre AU
Kazuto Kotaka and Toshiki Oyu aren't the only vampires in Super Formula that Yuki has ties to. There's a fair few others including Juju Noda, Ayumu Iwasa and even Nyck de Vries (he once tried to shoot his shot and Yuki gently turned him down but they still are friends).
Some of the vampires are just as hostile to Pierre like Kazuto and Toshiki, others are a bit curious but mostly aloof and the few that know Yuki personally are excited to see what the French gaijin is cooking up to hook Yuki hard (mostly Juju and Nyck).
Meanwhile Kazuto and Toshiki are in their bird forms stalking keeping an eye on Yuki and Pierre and Pierre might not be an ornithologist but the crow and the sparrowhawk following them both are acting suspiciously human like Yuki in his shima enaga form.
Died 2012, Born 2024; Welcome back Cullen family coven
I get why Kazuto and Toshiki are suspicious of Pierre, they fear that Pierre would do something to hurt Yuki (maybe they assumed he was a kind of Van Helsing-esque human), or perhaps they have hidden feelings towards Yuki but refuse to explicitly say it
I'd love to see Juju and Nyck curiously asking questions about Pierre and humans in general, and perhaps they follow Yuki as well to see Pierre, albeit in their shima enaga forms (not sure what birds they'd be, but I can see Juju being a little sparrow)
Poor Esteban and Charles wondering why does Pierre have a bunch of birds flocking up to him, as if he's some kind of bird god or fairytale prince that can magically summon or talk to birds. At this point, the three of them, Pierre especially, would pick up books on ornithology and get into bird-watching circles to finally understand these birds even better while in their natural habitats
Pierre would also pick up books on Japanese myths & folklore to understand Yuki's vampirical nature as well and to try to convince Kazuto and Toshiki (and the rest of the Yurem) that he means no harm to them 😅

Clearing up some Ricciardo Rumors™️
Over the last few weeks rumors have sprung up about Daniel Ricciardo, which is fair enough considering the lineup for the RB and Red Bull seats as well as the expectations of him, but I've done a bit more research to clear things up :)
Replaced at Miami? Apparently not.
The New Zealand Herald wrote an article that claimed "Ricciardo has been given an ultimatum" (tldr: if he doesn't perform in Japan and China he will be replaced by Liam Lawson) as well as other things like "Lawson is seen internally as Red Bull’s best option to partner world champion Max Verstappen long-term."
The source itself isn't too reputable since the NZ Herald hardly does F1 reporting to begin with, but also because it's clear they would be biased towards the kiwi driver (Lawson).
These claims have also since been disproven, first by F1 journalist Thomas Maher who reported "Sources say there are no plans to replace Daniel Ricciardo, from the Miami GP or later, with Liam Lawson," and also by Speedcafe, who put out an article saying "Trusted sources within Red Bull Racing, which has an overarching contract with Ricciardo, denied the rumours outright when approached by Speedcafe"
Liam's team have denied the allegations too, saying he hasn't been advised by Red Bull of any moves so I don't think it was intentional pressure but rather just bad journalism from the newsletter.
Helmut Marko has implied DR needs to be doing better, claiming both RBs are "too slow" and Ricciardo is "a bit behind,” but he's also said "Ricciardo needs a safe and confident car. I hope the team can give him that, so he can at least be on par with Yuki," indicating his dissatisfaction is less with the drivers and more with the car.
What about in Suzuka? Yes... but also no.
Daniel Ricciardo will miss FP1 as Red Bull junior driver Ayumu Iwasa takes his car for the practice session, but this is just because F1 teams are required to to bring in a rookie for at least 2 FP sessions a season. Usually teams do this a bit later but RB brought a rookie in earlier last year too, when they were still known as AlphaTauri.
So why not bring in Liam Lawson? Technically he's not a rookie anymore since he's driven in more than 2 GPs. That, and Iwasa is Japanese and it's the Japanese GP. Only makes sense to let him shine a bit in his home circuit.
So is he in danger of losing his seat?
As of now, it doesn't look like there's any plans to kick him out before his contract is finished. He clearly brings a lot of good PR to the team, as well as advice to improve the car. The team has also been admitting the car needs improvements, and there's much to be done. Ricciardo isn't too far behind Yuki's pace either, however he needs to be actively outperforming him if he wants to guarantee moving past the RB seat or even staying another season, since it's clear there's options Red Bull wants to explore.

One report says July 31 is Yuki/Daniel current car, July 1 is Iwasa/LL in an old car. I’m not worried, think the decisions made. If he does drive the old car it might be for benchmark setting/data for juniors. Interesting how he said “won’t be in holiday mode just yet and then we’ll see” — announcement on Wed/Thursday, confirmed?! 🤪
this is so funny to me cause it's like. so much weight is seemingly being put on this test (mostly by pundits and journos lmao), but at the end of the day even if daniel DID drive a previous version AT in a head-to-head match up.....at the end of the day the AT isn't the red bull? so even in a world where he was out driven in that car, who in their right mind would put a rookie straight into the red bull just because they were quick in a totally different car yk?? like you're saying, it seems like, if anything, it's probably more just setting benchmarks and giving pundits something to talk about since they all seem SOOOOO convinced that liam's in contention (he's not <3)
