At last! The post no-ones been waiting for!!
✨Assigning Sherlock Characters Chappell Roan Songs*✨
*mostly based on vibes of the character / what i song think the characters would like
Sherlock Holmes - Kaleidoscope
This song is literally about falling in love with your friends. come on. one of the lyrics is ‘If you really want to leave, I’ll never make you stay’. If i think too much about these lyrics and him I’ll cry, please listen to it i beg. Dare i say ‘conductor of light’ as food for thought
John Watson - Good Luck, Babe!
I’ve already posted about this. When you wake up next to her, in the middle of the night, with your head in your hands, you nothing more than her husband-
Molly Hooper - After Midnight
Little bit vibes based, but I can picture this being her jam when she stops pining after Sherlock and gets herself out there !! she should be in the club !!
Greg Lestrade - Coffee
I don’t know about this one honestly. Something about it strikes me as him tho.
Mrs Hudson - Pink Pony Club
I can just imagine her dancing to this around 221A, probably while she cleans or cooks. She was totally an ally back in the day (and still is). wouldn’t be surprised if she was a pink pony girl.
Mary Morstan - Femininomenon
She is a femininomenon!! (The lyric ‘stuck in the suburbs, you’re folding his laundry, got what you wanted, so stop feeling sorry’ reminds me of her and john simultaneously).
Mycroft Holmes - My Kink Is Karma
Mycroft Holmes doesn’t believe in karma, he is karma. He totally wreaks havoc on the lives of people who’ve wronged him with his ‘minor position in the british government’ powers.
Jim Moriarty - HOT TO GO!
He’s such a silly guy (terrorist). If he could’ve had this on his ipod in 2010, he would. (also ‘i could be the one or your new addiction’ is so him + his obsession with sherlock).
Irene Adler - Picture You
Mostly based on vibes. I don’t rlly like how the bbc interpretation of her is so inherently sexual but she’s also gay so i’ll take the compromise. I was torn between this and ‘Super Ultra Graphic Modern Girl’ but i assigned that to another character down the list.
Bonuses!!
Anthea - Super Ultra Graphic Modern Girl
She gives me bad bitch vibes in her ~5 minutes of screen time, okay?
Janine - Red Wine Supernova
90% vibes that she’d love this song, 10% my conviction that Janine was meant to be the bi friend to Sherlock’s gay friend.
Sherlock & John - Casual
IVE SEEN SO MANY EDITS. EACH ONE OF THEM ABSOLUTE CRIMINAL. IS IT CASUAL NOW?

AO3 Wrapped [writer’s ^and vidder's edition]
1. Biggest surprise while writing this year?
This was another year of needing the push of fests to finish and post works. @calaisreno's May prompts 2024 helped a lot, although I didn't go as far with updating The Private Personal Blog of Dr. John H. Watson as I wanted to. I posted seven (very short) chapters for the first eleven prompts. The remaining twenty prompts have been plotted, just not written :( and will take the story to the end of S3, where we wave goodbye entirely to canon. FYI- my notes for that section say:
That’s the end of canon. NO ABOMINABLE BRIDE NO MORIARTY RETURN NO DRUGS RELAPSE NO EURUS - Redbeard was a dog - Victor was a uni friend
Second biggest surprise was how much I absolutely fell in love with Sherlock & Co. I didn't think I'd have another show grab me the way this has. Not had a ton of fannish output yet, but it's likely coming.
2. How many WIP's do you have in your docs for next year?
A gajillion in docs. I keep thinking, "Can put this away; I'll never go back to it," and then immediately having my brain go back to it. Slightly fewer in the vid idea queue, but that's not zero.
3. Your favorite character to write/vid this year?
Great big cuddly squishes for the two John Watsons I wrote, BBC John and Jonk (podcast John). Same person at core, completely different in personality.
Vid: I liked vidding Yasper for Dance the Night, but vidding Ken to a "Xavier" song was also just *chef's kiss: Imma Live Forever
4. The character that gave you the most trouble writing this year?
Not posted yet, but I've written some Mariana from podcast. I adore her and feel I can write her inner self... but am very frustrated that I know nothing about growing up in Spain. Don't know what her relationship with her family is like, what her inside jokes are with Spanish friends about British people/UK, etc. I have some handle (from an outside perspective) on what it might be like to be Hispanic in the US but nothing on being Spanish in London.
5. What's one pairing you want to explore next year?
Sorry not sorry, more than one:
More of BBC poly QPR Sherlock/John and others around them
Podcast Sherlock/John/Mariana
BBC John Watson and James Wilson as exes from secondary school when James was on an exchange program in England
A different deep platonic relationship for BBC Sherlock and "John"
Sherlock Holmes & James Wilson friendship (where James calls Sherlock "Shushy")
BBC Molly Hooper/John Watson taking place after John's gone to prison for assaulting Sherlock in S4. You might not be surprised to learn that their relationship is actually all about Sherlock.
There's also a BBC kinky WIP that ends with Greg Lestrade/Mary Morstan, although it won't really explore that relationship per se.
6. Did you receive any gifts this year?
Yep and they were all great!
King of Anything [Fanvid] for Overboard (1987) by periru3
A triptych of related fics by Vulgarweed: Follow the Lights in Sherlock BBC, Pusherman in Watson and Holmes comic, and Champagne Supernova in Sherlock & Co podcast.
The Final Adventure of a Problematic, Lying Detective (Aka Oklahomo IV) which is an hilarious fic based on a Norwegian parody of Sherlock BBC.
7. Did you do any collaborative works this year?
Nope.
8. What do you listen to while writing?
Nothing while writing. While vidding it's the vid's song over and over and over again.
9. Favorite line/passage you wrote this year?
In vidding, it's the fun match of the music with Ken sliding slowly down the hood of his truck, and the Mt Rushmore horses being the "fake-ass hoes."
In writing, it's from a blurb that I may or may not ever finish: The sex was glorious, a feedback loop of sensation rather than a race to an outcome, and at one point the woman gasped, "God, Watson, you fuck like a dyke."
Oh, wait, I wrote that in 2023. What is time?
--
Thank you @meetinginsamarra for your AO3 Wrapped that inspired this!

'There is a moment in NT Live’s Vanya – a one-man version of Anton Chekhov’s 1898 classic Uncle Vanya – where it feels fully possible that Andrew Scott could have cloned himself, and that three versions of him are on stage at once. He’s chameleonic enough that you’d believe it.
Vanya shows how life on a rural estate is completely upended when famous filmmaker Alexander, and his young, glamorous second wife Helena, visit. During this time, estate manager Ivan (Vanya) and country doctor Michael both fall for Helena, and consequently reevaluate their lives. The play stars Andrew Scott portraying all seven characters – including Ivan’s niece Sonya, housekeeper Maureen and local boy Liam – in a powerhouse, multipronged performance. The production enjoyed a sell-out run on the West End last year, alongside a spate of five-star reviews.
In a way, it feels like Scott’s career has been building towards Vanya, so varied are his most celebrated roles. Starting out on the stages of his native Ireland, the West End and Broadway, Scott burst onto our television screens in 2010 as the delightfully unhinged villain Jim Moriarty in BBC’s Sherlock. He gave a playful, terrifying edge to a character who is usually dull and professorial in his ruthlessness. Since then, Scott has been a mainstay of stage and screen, his characters running the gamut from Hamlet to Bond antagonist (Spectre), fantasy hero (His Dark Materials) to droll matinée idol (Present Laughter), the latter of which earned him an Olivier. With every part, Scott conveys a sense of something deeper going on under the surface – unsaid, but clearly legible on his face.
With his beloved ‘Hot Priest’, hired to officiate a family wedding in series two of Fleabag (2019), Scott further demonstrated this facility for internal performances. His clergyman forms a tentative, transgressive romantic relationship with Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s titular tearaway, which simultaneously heals and serves as rock bottom for both of them. Scott brings a quiet confidence to the priest as he flirts with abandoning his vows, trying to do the right thing no matter how much it hurts. It’s terrifically subtle, deeply felt work.
Scott is uniquely adept at holding space for emotion, as seen with Adam, a man dealing with the impact of a lifetime of loneliness in Andrew Haigh’s All of Us Strangers. He brings a guardedness to the character, who discovers that his late parents are alive and waiting for him in the house he grew up in. His visits home become the key to opening himself up to a romantic relationship with his neighbour (Paul Mescal). Throughout the film, we feel Adam’s gratitude and grief as he discovers the love and support he’s denied himself for so long. Scott is a master of smiles that never quite make it to the eyes, of lit-up eyes downplayed with hesitant smiles. His emotions are fluid, never vacillating, never overwrought.
He takes his considerable skills to new heights in Vanya, where he showcases his immense versatility as an actor. One minute, he’s a beleaguered and gossipy housekeeper, and the next – literally, the very next – he’s a bored and depressed doctor. Another moment, and he’s a young woman filled with hope and energy, and, almost in the same breath, he’s transformed into her uncle, whose decline from cringey jokester to an utterly lost man has happened before our eyes.
Scott introduces us to each of his characters slowly: establishing their physicality, their voices, their mannerisms. His transitions between them are more marked at the beginning, when he uses props and leaves space for us to register his change in posture, or physically moves from one side of the room to another. He accustoms us to the characters’ different voices – Helena’s is cold, reserved and posh; Alexander’s slow and scatterbrained; Ivan’s jovial and tense, like something could imminently break. Some characters are linked with certain props: Sonya with her tea towel, Michael with his tennis ball, Ivan, again, with his comedy sound-effects box.
But eventually these visual clues fall away, and we know everyone by their sound and posture. Soon, Scott is setting one character down and picking another up as he rises. He is both the person being blocked and the one doing the blocking, the person being comforted and the one tenderly stroking their head. Even the scenes of sexual intimacy between two characters are made believable, handled in a way so focused and naturalistic they don’t seem contrived or actorly. By the play’s end, Scott is throwing his voice as one character and reacting as another, and we know who is who by the arc of his brow, the curve of his smile or the movement of his hand.
These smaller movements, which would be felt more than seen from anywhere other than the front rows of a theatre, are what give this cinematic version of Vanya its magic. It’s in the way Sonya can handle a tea towel both nervously and with resolve, the way Michael’s slumped posture goes from listless to lustful and the way Ivan slowly crumbles, sloughing off layer upon layer of coping mechanisms. All of the decisions Scott makes as an actor are clearly rooted in a deep empathy for each of these characters. Quite a feat, then, to maintain this dedication for more characters than can be counted on one hand over the course of two hours.
Vanya is an acting masterclass, a beautiful unfurling of Scott’s multifacetedness. It’s a culmination of what we love about him as an actor: his constant, daring shapeshifting. If he was at the top of his game before, then now he is absolutely stratospheric.'

I was always meant to be a tumblrina. I love supernatural and sherlock bbc (sadly never watched doctor who though) i was always so very crazily attached to my hyperfixations since 2019 (i will not elaborate on the fandom I was at that time) ive wanted to rant about tv shows and whatnot to people so badly that I used to pester my brother. Never been normal about songs either. So yeah. Also I’m extremely introverted, if that proves anything.
Pls don’t take offense at anything i said, i meant it affectionately and I love this hellsite <3

um what else am i currently or have ever been ashamed of or felt pressure to disavow ummm...
i liked good omens both seasons. Writing on season two couldve been better but those two actors have good chemistry & comedic timing its entertaining to watch them on screen and the little cringe love story did tug at my heartstrings a little like i do care what happens to them.
I was also very much a bbc sherlock fan during the peak of tjlc and i believed in it with all my heart and when the last episode of s4 came out i was in denial for 4 months and then i pretended id never heard of the show in my life for the following few years...hbomberguy made a whole video calling me a stupid idot loser for falling for it and it felt like a knife to the heart. & you know what i rewatched it recently with a lightened soul & no karmic debt & now recognize the pain behind the vitriol cause he was clearly also a disappointed fan though i could not see that at the time. maybe not tjlc who's to say but he loved bbc sherlock & hated himself for that once the last episode came out and we all realised it was bad its pretty obvious in the way he talks about steven moffat like an ex-lover who betrayed him. But i think its not even bad i still like it ill rewatch it and have a good time,
and yes i am a johnlock shipper. those ugly british men have a handle on my psyché though with the shifting tides im feeling like i would enjoy a wider range of pairings and themes from that show. I am generally very susceptible to outside influence when it comes to these things its part of why i find it hard to ignore when the trends oscillate wildly between loving something absolutely and hating it with a passion i find it very tiring because i feel it in my heart as if the urge came from the inside...sometimes something is just okay and its okay to like it an average amount without having to wildly overcorrect to atone for having liked it more than it deserved. maybe i was too intense about bbc sherlock and got my heart broken even though it was obvious i was projecting something that was not there on a cryptic blank screen, and so it is mostly my own fault but i don't have to hate myself for it either its all fine.
Loving something a little too much and being heartbroken when you realise it wasn't actually what you thought is painful but its part of life its not something to bury into the earth its fine....and im uncool to the extreme ive never been cool not once in my life im sort of embarrassing in most of the things i do and say and thats okay too i don't have to change because i can't anyways and besides its not hurting anyone. I'm literally a theater kid and theres something very freeing about being in the middle of a gaggle of nerds well sort of like being a tumblr blogger but the two balance each other out. I can't be cool on here because im a theater kid to my core in real life in the hamilton fan sort of way and i can't be cool in really life because im literally a tumblrina of the superwholock variety and in both there is a kind of peace and relief knowing that i will never have to be cool and am always lamer than most people around me at least in my heart of hearts...

TAG NINE PEOPLE YOU’D LIKE TO KNOW BETTER!
I. favourite colours: Red, purple or black. Especially when combined together in a gothic style. So specifically deep reds and plum purples, not so much the emo style of bright red and bright purples with black. Think regal vampire's castle.
II. favourite flavours: Barbecue seasonings, char on meat (steak or chicken wings especially), apple sweets, pineapple sweets, watermelon in any form and a nice warm spiced rum.
III. favourite genres: Fantasy and sci-fi that have deep world-building elements, found family stories in whatever form they take, horror, psychology and if any of these come with a touch of comedy then even better but I rarely enjoy pure comedy driven narratives.
IV. favourite music: I'm a bit polyjamorous, listening to whatever vibes with me at any given time but recently I've been listening to a lot of alt, folk, rock and indie. Think Will Wood and The Tapeworms, Neil Cicierega/Lemon Demon, Ashnikko - if it sounds a little unhinged then it probably scratches my brain just right.
V. favourite movies: Spirited Away, Van Helsing, Brothers Grimm, Dragonheart, Borrowers, Pans Labyrinth, Wolf Children, The Lost Boys, Tremors, Hellboy/Hellboy 2 - Fun fact, Hellboy 2 had a big influence on the writing of my Fae characters and their worldbuilding.
VI. favourite series: Adventure Time, Steven Universe, Helluva Boss, X-Files, 10th Kingdom, Stranger Things, The Owl House, Invader Zim, BBC Sherlock, NBC Hannibal and Charmed.
VII. last song: I only smoke to feel bad - KiNG MALA
VIII. last series: Probably Helluva Boss? If not, a rewatch of Invader Zim.
IX. last movie: Coraline! I'd actually never seen it before and watched it with friends (I was ashamed for years to admit I'd never seen it because most people assumed I must have given my vibes.) Was pleasantly surprised to see it also fit my usual love of Fae-themed things.
X. currently reading: Unfortunately nothing currently, my books are all in storage and I don't want to risk losing any while sofa-surfing. I was in the middle of re-reading Fynoderee by Alexander Caine Duncan before that though as I hadn't read it since I was a teenager.
XI. currently watching: Various youtube videos on unexplained mysteries. Mr. Ballen being a favourite.
XII. currently working on: Getting a place to live! Finally got the paperwork I've been missing today (and signed up to the local library!) so that's in progress. Other than that, roleplay replies and trying to make my blog easier to navigate.
tagged by: @handgiven tagging: @bdkrp @multianime @etherdwellers @universalextortion @woewept @bcund @hostilis @hannah-the-small & anyone else that wants to do it!! This is an open invitation!

YES YES YES THIS IS WHAT IVE BEEN SAYING FOR AGES
ALSO:
book sherlock - humble, is a slave of the truth rather than its master ["i have been bested four times, once by a woman and thrice by men"]
bbc sherlock - must always be right
book sherlock - drinks the respect woman juice ["if that young lady had a brother or a husband he ought to put a riding-crop around your shoulders"]
bbc sherlock - is so damn rude to mary in his first scene itself
book sherlock - adhd coded but tries his best to emotionally support people and spare them mental pain [the beryl coronet, the sussex vampire]
bbc sherlock - savant coded, but he comes off as enjoying the emotional anguish of people?
book sherlock - tries to communicate with watson when the criminals are dangerous and give him the facts [eg: the blind banker - telling watson the criminal was more dangerous than he feared and informing him of his background] , if he must subject watson to danger holmes always accompanies him [eg: the devil's foot - sits in the room with watson during poison trial and also apologizes after, hound of the baskervilles - accompanies him secretly and intervenes at the point at which watson may have gone with sir henry to stapleton's and so come to harm], doesn't consider it an obligation for watson to save him
bbc sherlock - let's expose watson to mad scientists, my extremely dangerous brother, international criminals and more - and never give him a word of warning, let alone apology
this conclude my rant for today. thank you
Tumblr media Tumblr media
after rewatching some of the bbc show (haven't watched it since i was into it ~2017) and reading some of the original Sherlock Holmes stories, i've made some observations
(obviously this is exaggerated for funny purposes)

opinions on sherlock (all the media, but specifically the bbc one?)
I was obsessed with the bbc show for like. A year and a half 😭😭 i don't exactly regret it but looking back on it even i have to admit that it is not a good show, not really. Like the first two seasons are enjoyable and even tho i remember liking the third just as much the drop in quality is pretty apparent. Hell, i even liked the fourth season even tho nothing makes sense and it's objectively the worst season of any show ive ever seen. The modern twist on the story is an amazing concept that could have been so much better executed but as it is, i would personally like to hang mofftis of a bridge 🥰 their love for queer baiting and bullshit "smart" writing created the world's most theory-ridden, insufferable fandom of all times and i am not ashamed to admit that in 2019 i was LIVING for that shit. Sadly, the writers for this show loooved to feel superior over their fanbase and act all high and mighty, pretending that they are soo smart and that the show is full of clues ooh ahhh that they kind of forgot to have any of these godforsaken clues lead to some kind of epilogue or conclusion. Sad! Well theres other shows.
I don't really have an opinion on the rdg movies, i think i watched one back in the day and it seemed pretty solid. During the height of my Sherlock phase i bought all of the acd books up untill the reichenbach fall. The books are good, theres no doubt about that and im kind of sad that i never read the rest of them.
Still, the detective gnomes movie rains supreme as the ultimate sherlock holmes adaptation. Thank you for your time.
