Review - Street Fighter 6 - Hit the Streets!
Review â Street Fighter 6 â Hit the Streets! | The Funky Hut (neocities.org)
Fighting games is a difficult topic for me in many ways. I like the concept of many unique characters in a fighting game way, each character being memorable in a way and where they each play totally different. At the same time, it's really annoying when a character you want to play as plays in a way you don't like. I like playing fighting games, and I like inputting all these weird commands to perform cool actions. I suck at them though, in a way where I need to have a relatively low difficulty set when playing them. I play a lot of fighting games, but really only Killer Instinct, Smash Bros, and Capcom. Now that you have some background info on me and fighting games, let's get started.
This is a review of Street Fighter 6, Capcom's latest fighting game. However, this review only takes into account what has been made available during the first month, which is the base game, the first Fighting Pass (Early Summer Vibes), and a few other tidbits. The game is divided into three components (Fighting Grounds, Battle Hub, and World Tour), so I'll go over each of these separately. Before I do that, let's go over what you'll generally experience in the game: the stages, the roster, and the gameplay.
The stages are varied, as they usually are. FĂȘte Foraine is visually distinct from Thunderfoot Settlement, which is visually distinct from Dhalsimer Temple, etc. The stages come in a variety of colors, though each one look a bit washed out. The focal point of the stage's background seems to be a bit foggy and therefore out of focus, making them lose a bit of clarity. Not a huge complaint, not one easily noticed during gameplay, and likely intentional to make the characters stand out more, but a nitpick if you will.
The launch roster is fairly small, coming in at 18 fighters. Including the 4 characters from the Year 1 pass, there will be at least 22 fighters in the game, which is equal to that of Street Fighter V and its first year of characters (16 + 6). However, the characters are more fleshed out than in V, plus all the other content available in game makes this roster much more bearable than it was for its predecessor. The roster at launch contains the 8 classic World Warriors, 2 New Challengers, Juri from Street Fighter IV, and 7-ish newcomers (the -ish is for Luke). The World Warriors are already a varied bunch, and the same can be said for the newcomers. Each returning character also received a redesign, each one looking great, especially Dee Jay. Overall, I would say there is not a single bad character, just some I'm less excited about. Throw in a few more for launch and it would've been perfect.
As for the gameplay, it's great. It mixes aspects from each game of the series and combines them into a sort of all-star game in terms of gameplay mechanics. You've got Supers from II, parries from III, Focus Attacks from IV, and character specific abilities from V's V-Triggers. Characters have a huge amount of depth, with tons of specials and unique attacks. EX moves have been split away from the Super meter (which is now only used for Supers), now instead being part of the Drive Gauge. With the Drive Gauge, you can perform Drive Parries where you continuously parry by holding down the buttons, Drive Impacts which stun or knock away your opponent, Drive Reversals done after blocking an enemy's attack, Drive Rush which is essentially a better dash, and Overdrive Arts which act as the game's EX moves. Every action you perform with the Drive Gauge drains it, but it can be refilled. Using all of these mechanics feels good, and it also keeps you on your toes as completely draining the Gauge will put you in a Burnout state where you cant perform these mechanics, plus you can be stunned and take more damage. A very well realized system that works very well with the rest of the gameplay, which feels like a typical if not more fluid Street Fighter otherwise, my only problem being that I keep mistaking Drive Parries for Killer Instinct 2013's Combo Breakers. I also need to mention Modern Controls, which seem great for new players, but I haven't tried them much.
Now that we've gone over the basics, let's delve into the aforementioned components, starting with Fighting Grounds. This is basically where to go for your typical Street Fighter activities, and they're each very typical in execution. From here you can access Arcade, Local VS, Online VS (Ranked, Casual, Custom), Practice, and Extreme Battles. Arcade is either 5 or 12 stages long, you can select 5 difficulties ranging from Easiest to Hardest, you can have Bonus Rounds active (destroy truck, parry basketballs (12 stages only)), and you can also have the character's story active, which consists of a few storyboard-cutscenes. Local VS is you VS a player or CPU, and you can also choose from a variety of team options (e.g 5v5, where only 1v1 is played for each). Online VS is probably the same as Local VS but online only (I haven't played this yet, not much of an online guy). Practice this time around is very fleshed out from what I've seen, with tons of character guides, combo trials, and options for frame data and the like (haven't played this either, actually). For Extreme Battles, there are several options to choose from, and you select what you want by combining an Objective with a Stage Hazard. These are just fun, if a little restricted as there are just 5 or 6 options for each category (5x5 = 25 unique combinations, but if you've played with e.g. one Objective you know what it is regardless of Stage Hazard), so I'm hoping more gets added in the future. All-in-all, Fighting Grounds offer a large selection of things to do, but maybe there's one or two things that could've been added to provide more value for the typical fighting game fan, what do I know.
Moving on to the Battle Hub, this is not too different from the Fighting Grounds in all honesty. You enter one of many servers, and here you see a ton of player created fighters, known as Avatars (more on them later) running around, and there's a chatbox so you can talk to everyone. In the middle of the Hub there is an area where you can fight with your Avatar against other players' Avatars, each one retaining their stats from World Tour (again, more later). There are various arcade cabinets placed around a large Hub, and depending on where you choose to sit, what happens is different. Sit by one inside the central circular area and you'll fight Casual matches against the other opponent who sits by that specific cabinet. On the other side of the Hub from the entrance and to the <b>right</b>, there are cabinets for Extreme Battles, which rotate their settings in some way. On the other side of the Hub from the entrance and to the <b>left</b>, there are cabinets where you can play classic Capcom games, such as Street Fighter I, II, or Alpha 2, Final Fight, Magic Sword, Puzzle Fighter II, and more, on a daily, weekly, or monthly rotation. There are other activities as well, like DJ booths, photo booths, Avatar clothing store, and Tournaments (which I haven't partaken in yet). In other words, the Battle Hub is a good component for players who enjoy interacting with others.
I'll use this portion to briefly discuss the microtransactions found in the game. You can purchase Fighter Coins, with which you can purchase colors for your characters (each character only has color 1 and 2 unlocked for their starting outfit), new Outfits, stickers to use in the BH chat, and clothes found in the BH outfit store. I haven't looked at their pricing that much, but it seems okay in comparison to other games. Not too much, but maybe could've been cheaper. Anyway, the game also contains the Fighting Pass, and you can purchase a Premium version of it with Fighter Coins. The Free version basically gives you nothing, which is typical of Battle Passes' free versions. However, by purchasing the Premium version, you can get permanent access to one of the arcade games available in the Battle Hub. That's neat, and for 250 fighter coins ($5 or so), it could be worth it, especially when factoring in whatever else you get (Avatar clothes, titles, stickers) plus the refund of 250 coins (likely to be used on the next Fighting Pass) if you complete all 30 tiers. At 15000 Kudos (bascially character EXP, used to unlock character titles or progress in Fighting Passes) required for all 30 tiers (around 10000 for the free tiers), it doesn't feel like it's too much of a time investment either, at least if you always play online. So, pretty ok so far, all things considered.
Now, it's time to discuss the elephant in the room... or demon, Gollum, or whatever else you created... World Tour. Or, well, let's go over the character creator first. In World Tour you play as your own custom Avatar. Your Avatar can be customized in basically every way. Character height, width, and depth, skin color, arm length, head size, sitting height, and more. People have created a ton of characters using this, from other Street Fighter characters like Rainbow Mika, to random ones like Hank Hill, Slenderman, Avatar (the blue guys), you name it. However your character is created, its appearance affects its gameplay. Longer arms providing longer reach and things to that effect. From playing World Tour, your Avatar can gain levels after which you gain skill points you can use to gain more stats, accessory slots, and more. You can also customize your characters clothes, with some affecting stats and/or giving various affects, some not. Finally, you can customize your Avatars fighting style in a number of different ways.
By meeting Masters in World Tour (Masters are the same characters as the main roster, like Cammy and Marisa), you unlock their style that you can apply whatever special moves you want to, if you have them unlocked and their inputs (think charge back, quarter circle, etc) don't collide (think Ryu's normals and unique attacks with Dee Jay's Air Slasher, Guile's Flash Kick, Zangief's Double Lariat, etc). Specials are unlocked from leveling a Master's style, which you do by using that style or fighting others on the street who use it. To round out this tangent on Master's before diving into World Tour, you can increase your bond with any given Master by giving them stuff. Each item gives a different amount of bond. Increasing the bond will increase their Master Assist level, where they'll come in and help you during a fight for a period of time. You also get to know them a bit. Also, if you reach 100 bond you unlock their Outfit 2. It's neat that these can be earned.
So, World Tour. It's the game's main Story Mode. You are your Avatar and you just enrolled as Luke's student, and so did this Bosch guy. After a brief introduction, you and Bosch explore the town a bit. Afterwards you two reunite with Luke, after which Bosch leaves you two behind. The rest of the story is basically finding Bosch again and finding out why he left. A very basic plot for what is essentially little more than a huge tutorial. In World Tour, you can travel to either Metro City or Nayshall, both of which act as the main hubs of the mode. You can also travel to any of the stages (they aren't much larger than their regular stage counterparts), which act as small areas to hold certain Masters and little else. In the main hubs, you can find mini-games that basically teach you timing of attacks or something similar but also earn you money, and you can also find side-quests that grant you rewards. These are also very tutorial-y, many hosted by the tutorial characters of Alice and her brothers, with only a handful of side-quests of actual substance. Seeing and getting to know Retsu was a highlight, but other than that I'd call it a Yakuza-lite. Lite A Dragon? Something along those lines. It's got the same ingredients, but they're not as fleshed out as a Like A Dragon game. The mini-games aren't that interesting and neither are the side-quests. I will say that I think fighting random thugs is about on par, of course being tailored more for traditional fighting games as opposed to a 3D beat 'em up, but it has more problems in scenarios where there are 2 or more enemies to fight against, such as getting stuck in infinite loops or getting attacked from both sides at the same time. World Tour is a good starting point, I just hope it will be updated alongside the game for the next 5 or so years SF6 will be Capcom's main fighting game. Add more side-quests, some more minigames, and maybe a proper post-game area as well (for enemies level 60+), and it might be able to stand together with some of the LAD games. As it is, it's a fun romp for however long it lasts, and I enjoyed the cameos. More of those, please.
Let's wrap this up. Street Fighter 6 is a great fighting game that can be enjoyed by basically everyone with the new Modern controls. It's got a ton of help for beginners to get into the game, such as Character Guides and World Tour. Pros can also enjoy a very complex fighting game, thanks to the depth of the Drive Gauge. Is it the best Street Fighter? Maybe. I could definitely see it lasting for the next 10 years as opposed to the 5 or so years each of IV and V lasted, especially if they update World Tour with new stuff as well (in addition to the Masters). My final message... pick up Street Fighter 6, and hit the streets!

Iâve seen a lot about your thoughts on Elisabeth and Tanz der Vampire, and theyâve been really helpful getting into those musicals! But you have a huge list of other musicals that people can get intoâŠ
So I was wondering if you had any musicals you hadnât mentioned in a while that you really like or would like to talk about??? (preferably something from your lists that has a blue heart please?)
Oh if only you knew how long the list of European musicals really is... I however have only seen 9 (if I counted right) and I have a lot more that I still need to watch. Oh also, I only put the blue hearts on any musicals that I was providing multiple links for so people could see which version I reccoment the most highly. If a musical only had one link and didn't have a blue heart it doesn't mean I didn't like it.
I've watched: Mozart das Musical, Elisabeth das Musical, Tanz der Vampire, 3 Musketiers, Mozart L'Opéra Rock, Dracula (the Graz production), Rebecca das Musical, Roméo et Juliette and Schikaneder.
If you enjoyed those two you're likely to enjoy Rebecca! It's written by the same composer/lyricist team as Elisabeth and Mozart (and same lyricist as Tanz der Vampire - though if you're listening to any German musical, original or translated, 90% of the time the lyrics will have been done by Michael Kunze that man is everywhere). The Stuttgart production has my favourite set design of any musical! Well... Actually probably. There are so many big set pieces it's insane, way more than I've seen in some Broadway and West End musicals. You can tell so much work went into it and the visual effects that I won't spoil if you don't know the plot but if you know the plot you know what I mean by the effects at the end are so good and I didn't expect them at all and I freaked out so much the first time I watched it. Jan Ammann as Maxim in the Stuttgart production is the best Maxim. No I won't take any argument. Other actors feel a bit one-dimensional to me, but the way Maxim acts at times comes from trauma and some actors and productions seem to forget that, but Jan really goes for it and his Maxim is a lot more sympathetic and I just want to give him a hug. Pia Douwes as Mrs Danvers, if you've seen her in Elisabeth what more do I need to say, she's amazing. A musical goddess. Her Danny is a bit more wild than some, but she kills it. My favourite video, which I put the blue heart next to, has understudy Christina Patten as Ich/I, but I adore her she's my favourite. She adds some spunk to Ich in act 2 and her voice is so pretty and aaaa. I just love these three actors together in these roles.
Roméo et Juliette is another favourite of mine! It's hard to choose which one to recommend, but it has to be the original 2000/2001 production because of the sweetness and chemistry and voices of Damien Sargue and Cecilia Cara as Romeo and Juliet. They're so pretty and work together so well. The only reason I say it's hard to pick is Mercutio. I adore him, but in the original production they cut out a song they had planned for him and he doesn't really do much at all? In the 2010 revival they gave him two more songs and you care about him so much more and John Eyzen plays such a good Mercutio. So I'd recommend the original but if you want to like Mercutio more, which you should he's amazing, I'd recommend watching at least clips of John's. It's an interesting musical because all productions are non-replica and also change around the order of songs, add or take away characters, all sorts. The Hungarian production is also very popular and I'm sure it's great, I just haven't' gotten around to watching it yet.
Mozart das Musical was the first non-English language musicals I watched so I have a fondness for it, but it's not my favourite. However, I do realise I have forgotten most of the songs and the few I've gone back and listened to are better than I remember.
Dracula isn't super popular and I understand why, I don't love the plot of the Dracula/Mina romance in it, however. I do love this musical because despite how I find the plot lacking, the songs are so good! At least, I love them. And the actors are all doing a great job. And it's one of the few Dracula adaptions to keep Quincy Morris so they get bonus points for that.
Mozart L'Opéra Rock and modern French musicals... This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but they're often more like pop-rock operas now. So if you're not into musicals with that style of music it might not be for you, but I still enjoyed it even though I didn't think I would because of the style of music. Mozart and Salieri's chemistry is very good, Salieri's bisexual crisis song is iconic, actually all of Salieri's songs are iconic.
Schikaneder... eh. I didn't like it that much and I didn't really like any of the songs. There's no English subtitles, but someone sent me the entire English synopsis and I watched it with a German friend so I had double the help of understanding it. Doesn't mean others might not like it, just none of the songs stood out to me and I had no desire to listen to any of them again. It's by Steven Scharwz of Wicked fame and I love Wicked, but I didn't love this.
3 Musketiers!! God it's so underrated and not spoken about within the European musical fandom that I even forget about it and literally forgot to write about it earlier in this post. It's a Dutch musical (though did also have a German production) and it's really good!? Faces you might know are Pia Douwes as Milady de Winter, Stanley Burlseon as Cardinal Richeliu (Netherlands Der Tod in Elisabeth), Henk Poort as Athos (Netherlands Phantom and Jean Valjean). The dialgoue is funny, the songs are good, some of the set pieces have no right to exist in this tiny musical?? They made this giant boat and pelt the actors with rain just for one 5 minute song and then we never see the boat again? And while I recommend the Dutch one because Dutch musicals deserve more love and it has official English subtitles!! Official ones, not fanmade! I have the DVD and it comes with English subtitles (and Dutch and German subtitles) which is so nice. The German version is also good, good cast, Pia came back and Uwe Kroger as Richeliu and omg they rearranged the songs and the German arrangement of Nicht Aus Stein is insane and amazing and frankly iconic.
That's all of the ones I have watched. Next on my list to watch are Rudolf and Notre Dame de Paris, both of which I have listened to some songs from and already love (I've listened to way too much of Notre Dame de Paris and am so in love).
I want to start organising streams where I'll host the musical either by getting the video from Youtube or my own files and anyone who wants to join can come along and watch with us, chat with us if you want or just watch there's no pressure to chat. I thought about doing weekly streams? This would also make me finally watch some of the ones I've been meaning to for ages. But I keep wondering about time zones. I'm in the UK and would want to stream at about 11pm at the latest (11pm BST/GMT+1 as weâre in daylight savings at the moment, if the streams continue past the end of October which would be wild then Iâll make a note of the time change that would be to 11pm GMT), which I know can work for other UK and Europeans, but for any Americans would be in the afternoon. So, I wondered if doing it on a weekend would be better? Then it doesn't matter if it's in the afternoon? Maybe Saturday evenings then? It would either be Saturday evenings UK time or Friday evenings UK time. What do you guys think? If people are down then I'll make a separate post with a list of what we'll be watching each week and if anything happens to me that means I can't stream one week then everything will just get pushed back a week, but I don't see that as likely to happen. And I'll only be streaming those that have English subtitles, so don't worry about not being able to understand anything.
edit: am also open to 10pm bst if others want that, im just trying to think of what time works best for everyone so sorry if 11pm is a little late for europeans, i know 10pm could be a little early for americans. also in case it sounded like these are the only musicals i will be streaming, thats not so, ive got more than just the ones mentioned on this list!

   - ÍÌ NOW INTRODUCING:  IVES â IVY â SERRANO !
( DANNA PAOLA, CISFEMALE, SHE/HER, SCORPIO, 24 ) I just spotted IVES âIVYâ SERRANO at the beach today. Donât you know them? They live down by the TOWERS and usually hang out with the RICH KIDS & MUSICIANS cliques. From what Iâve heard, they can be DECEITFUL, but theyâre also ADAPTIVE. I always think of them when i hear LAST LAUGH - FLETCHER and tend to associate them with STRAWBERRY CHAMPAGNE, A FRESH SET OF STILETTO NAILS, AND RED LINGERIE. ( tay, she/her, 22, est )
full name: natalie rose serrano ives serrano nicknames: ivy, poison ivy faceclaim: danna paola voiceclaim: lana del rey birthday: november 1st, 1996 zodiac: scorpio sun, aries moon, gemini rising sexuality: bisexual occupation: influencer, instagram model, musician, scammer / thief positive traits: effervescent, bold, creative, charismatic, coquettish, intuitive, ambitious, alluring, adventurous, perceptive negative traits: cantankerous, deceitful, envious, manipulative, dramatic, stubborn, narcissistic, materialistic, reckless, quick-tempered character inspos: maddy perez euphoria, jackie burkhart that 70âs show, blair waldorf gossip girl, margo hanson the magicians, every lana del rey song ever, lucrecia montesinos and cayetana pando elite, rosa diaz brooklyn nine nine, the entire rose family schitts creek, jen harding dead to me
- ÍÌ⥠â âș background !
the main thing u need to know about ivy is that she is lying ! always !! her real name isnât even actually ivy smh
she was born NATALIE ROSE SERRANO, to two working class parents in new york city. she knew from a young age that she was just supposed to be rich and famous, and that something had gotten mixed up somewhere and she was put in the wrong life.
in high school she got a scholarship to a fancy private catholic school, and thatâs where she started to hone her craft of manipulating rich people. she would befriend all of the richest bitches at school and take advantage of everything that came along with it: vacations to far away places, stays in the familyâs cabins and lake houses, even designer clothes that her friends no longer wanted and would gift to her, thinking it was their idea all along
as she grew up and got better at getting what she wanted out of people, her entitled attitude only got worse, driving a wedge between her and her parents, who kept waiting for her to develop a work ethic and kept being disappointed. a few months after she graduated high school, on her 18th birthday, her parents kicked her out of the house and cut her off, hoping that it would force her to grow up and take on any responsibility
but that plan backfired for them, her parents underestimating how truly stubborn natalie was. the day after her 18th, she wandered into a local strip club and got a job, figuring itâd be the easiest and quickest way to get some cash, and she took to it naturally and actually really enjoyed stripping
she started to embody an entirely new persona that she had created for herself, dancing under the name POISON IVY and telling everyone she was a trust fund baby that had been cut off from her rich parents, needing to dance to supplement her income, and her lies just continued to spiral out of control until she almost started to believe it herself. she had never told anyone at the club her real name, not even the other strippers, just going by âivyâ for a while.
she had learned to weaponize the power she had over people by being pretty and charming, using her looks for absolute evil and doing whatever it took to get moneyâfrom straight up pickpocketing, to making men buy her expensive gifts, to blackmailing, to sugar babying, to getting patrons wasted and manipulating them into tipping her absurd amounts⊠she did it all, very quickly earning enough to live the life she had always dreamed of, that she felt she deserved for whatever twisted reason.
she started posting on instagram with the name poison ivy generally just flaunting her carefree, extravagant life, often exaggerating or down right lying just to really dazzle her quickly growing audience
as she started to go down the influencer route, she realized she needed to do something to hide the skeletons in her closet ( the fact that she didnât actually come from money and was making far more than was normal for even the best of dancers, a couple of small possession / shoplifting charges, and just generally anything that could lead people to her real identity ) so she started to tell people her name was ives, fully taking on the new identity. she even went so far as to make some of the people that had been closest to her sign NDAs about her real identity, making sure that no one could sell info about her should her plan of being famous work out
she also moved out to california to run away from everyone in the city that was starting to catch on to what she was doing, basically doing all the same shit but now in a New Place.. this was about 3-4 years ago, so sheâs been in sunhollow for a while now doing the whole influencer thing !!
and it did work out !! at first she was definitely buying followers/likes to boost her likelihood of brand sponsorships, but eventually she faked it until she made it and actually attained influencer status. she then used her newfound internet fame ( and some classic blackmailing ) to get herself a record dealÂ
she also started sleeping around with pretty much any famous person she could, having very public relationships and breakups and scandals to keep her name in the press, which ultimately lead to more exposure/people following her, if only to see what she did next, which lead to even more sponsorships
eventually she stopped dancing and just focused on her influencing and more recently ( like... less than 6 months ago recently ) her music career. but she never stopped sugar babying and scamming rich stupid men, still very much using that as a means to keep up her lifestyle. sheâs also done a few modeling things, but itâs mostly just like catalog work or being the face of a trendy campaign bc sheâs way too short for the runway
she also recently made an only fans account bc she was bored one night and was mostly planning on posting once as a joke but then she made a bunch of money / got a bunch of subscribers and was like oh word ? i can do that ! so she will post on there from time to time but sheâs not like⊠super serious about it ya know ? also her music label is big mad at her for it bc theyâre like bUt yOuR rEpUtAtIoN and sheâs like yeah.. but my bank account ? also itâs no secret she used to be a stripper so she rly just.. doesnât give a fuck !Â
so basically sheâs jus here making money being pretty and pulling a long ass scam on⊠everyone
- ÍÌ⥠â âș personality / headcannons !
sheâs a real two faced bitch⊠she has perfected the art of becoming whoever she thinks other people want her to be, quickly adapting her personality to get whatever she wants
sheâs usually pretty friendly actually, really charming and outgoing and just trying to have a good time
she has a pretty short temper tho and holds grudges like you wouldnât believe, so once youâre on her bad side⊠good luck lol she is so ruthless
sheâs like⊠deeply, deeply selfish and will always put herself first, but sheâs so manipulative that she can make people do things that they think are their idea, but itâs really just something she planted in their head so itâs not always obvious
also very spoiled and will throw a mf fit if she doesnât get her way or u say no to her
always going out !! always doing the most !! sheâs the type to show up randomly at ur door at 8pm on a tuesday with a bottle of tequila and make u party with her whether u like it or not
sheâs a lot smarter than she lets on sometimes, like she knows people expect her to be stupid and ditzy and shallow and sheâll let them underestimate her when itâs beneficial
always looks perfectly put togetherâ her nails are always meticulously manicured, usually w stiletto shaped acrylics, and youâll literally never see her outside her house without makeup and a perfectly composed outfit. itâs also a rare occasion that sheâs not wearing at least six inch heels, trying to make up for bein so mf short ( sheâs 5â3 )
she talks A Lot but is really good at saying a lot of words without actually saying anything, like you can be best friends with her for months and then just be like âi donât actually know a single thing about herâ
always up to no good and sticking her nose where it doesnât belong !! sheâs always got some sort of scheme going or getting in to some kind of drama
v much a hoe and v much proud of it, will sleep w just about anyone especially if she can get something out of it
also a serial dater !! sheâs always hoping in and out of relationships and being rumored to be with a dozen people at once
most definitely calls paparazzi on herself, especially when sheâs around other famous ppl but will never admit it
compulsive liar, she will literally lie about the dumbest things like she doesnât even need a reason to lie she jus.. does
she has a luxury two bedroom apartment that she lives alone in ( one room is kinda a guest room but also mostly just a giant closet ) in the towers and the gag is she doesnât even know how much her rent is bc one of her random sugar daddies pays her rent.. her power tbhÂ
- ÍÌ⥠â âș wanted connections !
hookups / flings / one night stands / fwbs all that shit !!
exes on bad terms ⊠gimme drama pls
enemies / ppl sheâs stolen from maybe⊠she would definitely deny it and say theyâre jus jealous of her or smth stupid but that could make the feud worse
party pals !! like i said she goes out a lot and always somehow manages to make new friends and drag them into her shenanigans
on again / off again exes⊠i want the Angst so bad..
shallow friendships / influencer friends like they play it up a lot for insta bc they both have a pretty big following but they dont really... like each other that much ?? like they definitely seem to be a lot closer than they really are
pr relationships this could be past or present !! in the same vein as the last one except they pretend to date ( or maybe just act like theyâre gonna date but never actually do ?? like to fuel rumors )Â
unlikely friends !! like ppl who are nice and sweet and Pure, she could use a lil good energy in her life
situationship / flirtationship like theyâre super flirty and maybe hook up a couple times but everyone assumes theyâre dating or like gonna date but theyâre jus vibing. bonus points if one or both of them actually has feelings but canât tell if theyâre just friends / casually hooking up or if it could turn into something more.. im a slut for some mutual pining !!

âWhatâs the very worst thing you can do to your very best friends? Tell them your darkest secret, because if you tell them, and they decide theyâd rather not know... You canât take it back. You canât unsay it. Once youâve opened your heart, you canât close it again.â
This is the second post Iâm making about BBC Sherlock S4 (or anything about any fandom, really). You can find the first one here, the topic is almost the same. Iâm really slow in writing down my theories in a way that is comprehensible by others, so Iâm sorry if i donât have a lot for the moment. Read this with the knowledge that I firmly believe in TJLC as explained by Rebekah on YouTube, and that S4 is not real as we see it, but is telling us what we need to know before they release S5 (or the special if thatâll come first) through unusual ways, TJLC style.
I think here Culverton smith is mirroring the writers, and his friends are the viewers. During the whole scene we have TONS of mirrored shots in the windows, most of it infact. In all of the previous seasons mirrors and character shots in mirrors were there to signal âhey this character is currently mirroring this other thingâ, so idk it might be even this time??
Faith when sheâs still drugged and tries to remember something about the conference, the first shot of her that we see, sheâs in a mirror, even the desk reflect her image. Wander which part of the audience Faith is mirroring? Yeah, you guessed it. The tjlc fandom. The ones that analyze things. The ones that are questioning.
And the nurses? Idk, Iâve never seen a nurse thatâs just putting an IV wearing a mask (unless under special circumstances of course), it never happens even when youâre taking blood samples, it just doesnât ring right to me. So, who are the nurses? Theyâre people working for Culverton, they know whatâs happening, they know what the solution is and what it does, they know how to administrate it, but they leave the room in the moment of confession. The nurses are mirroring BBC Sherlockâs crew.
If youâve never worked on a set let me tell you: nobody, apart from the smallest possible amount of selected people, knows the whole picture, they canât risk it, usually itâs just the writers, the producers, and most f the times the main actor; everyone else just knows the smallest informations to do their single job of adjusting the lights or hair for that single scene just like itâs written in their schedule.
So the crew knows partially what theyâre doing, but they canât speak, because their mouth is covered.
Iâm thinking this is exactly the reason of S4. S4 is the memory drug. Everything made sense till now, tjlc was more and more evident, it was extremely obvious to everyone that johnlock was an actual thing, i mean just look at the sign of three, MY MOM THOUGHT THEY WERE CANONICALLY IN LOVE BEFORE I EVEN DID (at the time the fandom wasnât the greatest so I avoided pretty much anything that wasnât fan fictions or fan art, and just thought it was queer bait). Everything was super clever and well made. And then S4 came. A cheap Hollywood movie where nothing made sense and with john and sherlock great platonic friendship. And it was the last season so how could you not except what they already gave you and still want more, right?
Wrong. S4 is either complete bullshit or a distortion of what actually happens.
Culverton say that he canât say his darkest secret because he canât take it back, yet he does tell, and he does take it back.
The show does say that sherlock and john love each other (and are still pining) but S4 takes that back. You want the distorted version? Ok. Sherlock does explicitly says the words âi love youâ in S4 to Molly in a physical mirror, a characterâs mirror for John, whose description of the coffin perfectly fits John. The show does say that the writers arenât stupid and arenât making a tv show thatâs just a blockbuster action movie, with cheap Hollywood effects and made up physic laws. Yet S4 takes that back.
The whole thing they kept saying in earlier seasons about âmaking history of televisionâ and âmaking unprecedented thingsâ? What unprecedented things? That was extreamely cheap cinematic, with really poor writings and a rip off of James Bond and classic horror movies. Nothing about S4 was memorable or relevant.
They already said everything they had to say (for the moment) but then they couldnât leave the public waiting for another 6 years before S5 with all that hope and knowledge. Especially considering the fandom suspected even the phone\heart metaphor before ASiB even aired. Leave those people with the tiniest hope and youâd find your plans stripped naked for everyone to see in less than half of that hiatus. Thatâs really not Moffat style, he needs to give you hope, rip your heart open, surprise you leaving you gasping, only then he can make another plot twist and make everything super beautiful again and making you crying because itâs too many emotions.
So they said their things before S4, the fans that were still not sold on johnlock or didnât want it canon were the friends who would rather not know, they went on with the brain washing of S4, and said âok, weâre done here, nothing else to see, the show is finished, good nightâ. But just as with Faithâs story you can reconstruct if not all, part of what happened; because i donât know if you noticed, but S4 doesnât have a lot of plot holes, it is one single gigantic plot hole.
But what happens if they kill everyone just like Culverton Smith said? What happens if they make S4 so bad and destroy everything they said up until now with the show itself? What happens if the same people that were able to decode everything suddenly lost any faith because they were let down so much they just let the fandom die, and there was no one left to analyze what they were actually saying?
Everyone would forget all about TJLC and about how clever of a show it was. They would erase the whole show from peopleâs memories, letting it pass by like any other show thatâs there to fill your Sunday evening.
Also thereâs another thing that doesnât sit right with me, although i donât have any proof backing this up and am not sure of what Iâm saying, itâs basically just speculation, but still. TD12 package:
obviously this drug doesnât exist, the only thing i came across with that name is a percussion sound module, youâre welcome to make your own theories with this informations since i know absolutely nothing about music technology and am not the smartest tool in the shed when it comes to music theories or clues.
I presume TD12 itâs something along the line of saline solution, since Sherlock made that replacement himself later in the episde, my research (because i also have no knowledge about medical stuff) told me that saline solution has en expiration time of roughly 2 years. On the package we see that the expirationâs date is October 2018, so counting back, assuming Culverton got the drug shortly before doing his speach, the scene takes place somewhere around October 2016. Wander what happened in October 2016?
On BBC Sherlock official YouTube channel they release just one video: Sherlock Series 4 release date. Now. You might say Iâm looking a little to much into it, but if you go check the release dates of the other YouTube videos you would see that they usually donât post just one video per month, thatâs the only one around that time period. Idk if you ask me itâs a lot of strange coincidences.
Anyway, in the scene he then says âthese drip feeds will keep the drug in your blood streams at exactly the right levels. Nothing that is happening to you now will stay with you for more than a few minutes. Iâm afraid that some of the memories youâve had up to this point might also be... corrupted.â.
So the victims starting now, will continue to take the drug for the next idk 30 minutes???? But apparently some of the events preceding that moment can be âcorruptedâ. Translated: everything starting from October 2016 is fucked up because of the drug, not only that, but also some things from before that. Iâm guessing the âdripsâ would be the little occasional posts or news??
Might I add the information that in December 2018 the escape room Sherlock the game is now opened? Like, i know itâs not October, maybe Iâm just looking where i want to look, but... I genuinely donât know, thatâs why Iâm sharing things, so that people with a more objective point of view can come and say to me âhey youâre not making any sense, what the fuck are you talking aboutâ.
And overall, Iâm not native English speaker, but I donât think you say âcorruptedâ when talking about human memories. It sounds more something used in the context of digital memories, usually itâs files that gets corrupted, not human brain memories.

Tremor IV
Fandom: Thunderbirds Rating: Teen (may wibble upwards into AO3âČs Mature later) Genre: Hurt/Comfort/Angst Characters: John Tracy, EOS, Lady Penelope, Gordon Tracy
Part 4 of my contribution to Hear from @gumnut-logicâs SensorySunday challenge. Part 1 | Part 2Â | Part 3
Last chapter got more of a reception than I expected. Maybe I should torture Scott more often. What do you think?
How hard was it to find a single, oversized, ugly ship? Â John glared at the string of data heâd obtained from the GDF â less than legally, and without their knowledge, but desperate times called for desperate measures â and resisted the urge to pull his hair out.
Three days. Â That was how long heâd been tearing apart every scrap of data he could get his hands on, determined to find the Hoodâs ghastly ship â and more importantly, his big brother. Â That was also how long it had been since heâd last slept, a fact EOS was bringing up more and more. Â Sheâd threatened to tell Virgil and Grandma that he wasnât looking after himself; heâd threatened to delete her and lock Thunderbird Five down so no-one could get in.
It was harsh, cruel, even, and the AI had promptly retreated, refusing to talk to him until he apologised. Â John was the one in the wrong and he knew it, but he couldnât bring himself to apologise, not yet. Â If he did, sheâd take that as permission to invite Virgil up and force him to take a break.
He didnât dare take a break. The last time heâd stopped monitoring communications, Scott had been kidnapped. Â Part of him blamed EOS for that, too. Â How had neither of them noticed anything at all? Â It had been quick, but not that quick.
In the corner, a display repeated the feed from Thunderbird One over and over again, on an eternal loop. The woman clung to Scott, the man approached from behind, and a too-brief tussle had his big brother unconscious in seconds. Â They vanished behind the rock, and all was still for several minutes before the huge, ugly offense to engineering rose into the air and flew out of shot.
And then it was gone.
How did that monster of a thing hide itself so completely? Â The GDF were useless; heâd informed Colonel Casey of the abduction, but while the woman herself was utterly horrified and determined to do anything within her power to assist them, she was finding herself blocked at every turn by someone else. Â What little data sheâd managed to provide had been stripped of anything remotely useful, and John had given up on that avenue of approach.
It felt uncomfortably like Dad all over again. Â No body, searches turning up useless, the same man responsible. Â The only comfort he had was that this time there was no evidence to suggest Scott was dead.
What the Hood wanted with him was another matter entirely, and John scowled furiously at his useless, useless data. Â It was all very well and good having the most powerful computers in the world, the state of the art Thunderbird Five advanced well beyond any other space station or communication hub made by man, but why, when it came to family, was it never enough?
First Dad, then Scott. Who next? Â Keep going down the line â him â or skip the isolation of space and target Virgil? Â Gordon? Alan?
International Rescue was grounded. Â That, at least, Colonel Casey had managed to do something about. Â All emergency calls were being diverted to Global One. Â Until they found Scott, there was a family-wide agreement. Â Family first.
âHello, John.â
He startled, unprepared for the call. Â If heâd been in gravity, heâd have tripped and fallen over his own feet for sure. As it was he merely jumped out of his skin before reluctantly rolling to face his friend.
âAnything?â he asked, too tired, too wound up to do anything except jump straight to the heart of the matter.
Lady Penelope looked concerned, but shook her head.
âIâm afraid not,â she apologised. Â âNone of my contacts have seen or heard anything, and Parkerâs underground connections are turning up similarly empty. Â Itâs as though theyâve vanished into thin air.â Â Blue eyes focused on him and narrowed. Â âJohn, when did you last sleep?â
He laughed, a sickly, hollow shadow of bitter mirth.
âIâll sleep when Scottâs home safe and sound,â he told her. Â âLet me know if you hear anything.â
âJohn-â Â He swiped her away, ending the call. Â If it wasnât information on Scott or the Hood, he didnât need it. Â Not right now.
Besides, three days was nothing. Â It had been seven before Scott damn near rammed in his airlock after the Zero-X to shove food down his throat and tie him to his bed with promises to monitor everything until heâd rested.
Scott wouldnât do that this time, as much as John would love to see his big brother forcing his way through the airlock safe and sound. Â Heâd give him one great big hug and never, ever, let him go. Â But life didnât work like that. Â Scott wouldnât miraculously be here, in space. Â No, he was somewhere on that green and blue marble below him, and John would find him.
Like you found Dad? a little voice in the back of his head mocked. Â He ignored it.
Thunderbird Two was at the mine again, Virgil determined to search the place inch by inch in case heâd been left there after all.
âWe never saw them board the ship,â heâd argued, and John hadnât stopped him, knowing that Virgil needed to be doing something, anything, that could be helpful. Â Heâd been the one to leave Scott alone without backup, and no-one was more aware of that fact than Virgil himself.
âNew rule,â Gordon had said. âNo-one gets left behind.â Â Heâd all but thrown Alan on the green Thunderbird to keep Virgil company, their youngest brother unnervingly quiet. Â The aquanaut himself had thrown himself into a world of contacts John had never realised he had. Â It turned out that it took more than a hydrofoil crash to cut ties with WASP, ties Gordon was now yanking on with everything he had with the same fervour Kayo was hunting down Kyrano and his old contacts, and even Grandma had some surprises up her sleeve.
So far, none of them had turned anything up at all. Â Not a single hair had been found, and as each day passed, the pressure mounted higher and higher. Â The Hood hadnât even got in contact to gloat, and that worried John. Â No contact, no ransom, no demands at all.
What was the criminal after?
He turned his attention to the useless string of GDF data again.  Maybe if he ran it through a different system, used a different angle⊠maybe something would come up.  Something, anything.
The fact that in the past eight years theyâd never managed to find anything on the ship preyed on his mind. Â If eight years had turned up nothing, why would three days make any difference? Nothing had changed. Â Scott hadnât managed to keep a single tracker with him, they had nothing new to go on.
They didnât even know if Scott was still alive.  Forty two percent of kidnappings resulted in the victimâs death.  It was a statistic he wished he didnât know.
âJohn.â
A security camera faced him, lights white. Â Theyâd been red last time heâd seen them, EOS furious at his threats.
âNot right now, EOS,â he snapped. Â He didnât have time for apologies, no time for rest, explanations or anything that wasnât finding Scott.
âI believe I have a probable location for the Hoodâs ship,â she told him, undeterred.
It took a moment for the words to sink in.
âYou what? Â Where?â
The string of data in front of him disappeared to be replaced with a satellite feed of an ice sheet.
âI ran through all the satellite imagery recorded across the globe since the incident,â she informed him. âUsing those, I tracked the ship to the southern tip of Africa, where it submerged. Â Enhancement of the images showed a large mass of the correct dimensions travelling through the water until it reached the southern extent of the Arctic Circle and travelled beneath the ice shelf. Â No satellite has since picked up anything that could be the Hoodâs ship.â
John gaped at her.
âItâs also a submarine?â he realised, voice strangled in his throat. Â No wonder theyâd never found it. Â âThe Hoodâs been hiding underwater?â
âThat would appear to be the case,â EOS informed him. Â âWould you like me to ask Gordon to investigate?â
John didnât answer, pulling up the aquanautâs comm himself.
âJohn?â Â Gordon didnât look like heâd had any more sleep than John himself.
âGordon, the bastardâs underwater,â John bit out, language be damned. Â Gordon had heard worse. Â âArctic Circle, sending last known co-ordinates now. Â How many contacts can you get scoping out the area?â
âEnough,â his longer brother said, amber eyes sharp. Â âHow did you find it?â
âI didnât,â John admitted, glancing up at the camera. Â âEOS did.â Gordon nodded, accepting it instantly.
âTell the others weâve got a lead,â he said, something in his voice John had rarely heard from him â an expectation that he would be obeyed. Â Gordon had been one of the youngest WASP officers in history. Â âIâve got calls to make.â
It was Gordon that swiped him away, ending the call, and John stared at the icon for a moment, letting himself breathe. Â Theyâd done it. Â Eight years, and theyâd managed to track the Hood.
Something had changed. Â They had EOS now. Â Hacking every single satellite that orbited Earth and delving through all of their memory banks was a feat not even John could manage by himself, but EOS had done it, and in only three days.
He had to make calls of his own, reassure the rest of his family, get Kayo on the right track, but first there was something else.
âEOS?â
âYes, John?â
âIâm sorry. Â Thank you.â
Lights flashed green.
âI forgive you. Â And you are welcome.â

30 days of Autism Acceptance: Day 3!
April 3: Talk about special interests. Do you have any? What are they? How long have you had them? What does it feel like to have special interests? What does having special interests mean to you? Talk about your past special interests
HOO BOY! Ok, Iâll try not to go on too long about my special interests, but I have a lot to say about them! Also, some of my special interests are in this weird grey area of âare they a SpIn or a hyperfixation?â, so Iâll cover those as well, and make it noted when thatâs the case for one. Also, this will be VERY LONG, so Iâll put it under a cut.
SpIn #1 - Pokemon
Pokemon has been my main special interest since I was 9, I believe! Black was my first game that I got for my birthday, and I was super happy to get it since all of my friends at the time would talk about it! Iâve gotten (almost?) every major release since then, thought I usually only get one out of the two versions.Â
The Pokemon games that I have are *inhales*: Black, Black 2, HeartGold (got a few years after it came out), X (I have the limited edition 3DS), Alpha Sapphire, Moon (first completed Pokedex!), Ultra Moon (havenât beat and probably never will), Letâs Go, Eevee!, Sword (still trying to beat), Conquest, Art Academy, PMD: Gates to Infinity, Picross, Rumble World, Battle Trozei, Pokemon Quest, Pokemon Playhouse (for when Iâm regressed), Poke Park 1 & 2, My Pokemon Ranch, and Battle Revolution!
I also used to play the TCG competitively, and in my first competition, I placed 9th in my division! I stopped playing about a year after that though because the cards I used in my strategy when I would practice with my Dad were too old to be viable.
I have a growing stuffie and merch collection as well! I have a lot of Unova stuffies, and a print of the Unova map that I got at a ren faire when I was younger (it currently hangs above my dresser)! My two favorite stuffies at this time are Baby my Eevee Build-A-Bear (named after my Eevee in Letâs Go, Eevee!), and Lily my Wooloo! I have a couple of Pokemon sketch cards that friends of my Dadâs drew, and some prints and figure-y things Iâve gotten in Artist Alleys over the years!
I also own a couple of different Pokemon books (not the manga, though), and 2 of the movies, along with the OSTs for B/W, X/Y, and ORAS! I donât have much as far as clothing goes though, except for my âGotta Catch âEm Allâ scarf and a Pikachu hat I got at an old anime store at the mall that has since closed. Thatâs probably all I can remember right now!
SpIn #2 - Steam Powered Giraffe
SPG has been a special interest for about 4 years now? Anyway, theyâre my #1 favorite band and have literally saved my life. Watching Bunny Bennettâs (who plays Rabbit) vlogs about her transition, along with listening to the song Transform that she wrote (waaay before they just made it a single) really helped me accept myself and come out.Â
They also came at a time where I was struggling emotionally a lot, and I remember being stuck in the ER hooked up to an IV, and my mom played some of their albums for me to keep me calm and grounded. More recently, I saw them perform at Anime Midwest last year, and when they performed Transform (which neither me or my friends expected), we were all hugging each other and crying tears of joy (my friends are trans as well, and have also been touched by Bunnyâs vlogs).
Their songs (not including the sad ones) make me really happy as well, and Make Believe makes me stim a lot in particular! I also got to sing Honeybee as part of a voice coaching summer camp I took last year, and it felt really good to do it! I really recommend listening to them, especially if you like steampunk and/or youâre looking for trans artists to support!
SpIn #3 - Little Shop of Horrors
So this is more of a fairly recent one, compared to the first two. This special interest mostly applies to the 1986 movie, but Iâve seen the stage musical as well! The music, the cast, the plot, itâs all *chefâs kiss*. But for real though, my two favorite things about the movie are the practical effects and the endings.
With the CGI fresh hell we got with CATS, you may thing, âwow, special effects were so much better back thenâ. Except hereâs the thing, they were practical effects. Audrey II is (I believe) entirely puppetry, not CGI. The same applies for the musical as well! It really culminated at the end of the film during âMean Green Mother from Outer Spaceâ, when Audrey II is at itâs biggest and most elaborate. Speaking of that scene, I much prefer the directorâs cut over the theatrical cut. I know that the happy ending is much better for Audrey and Seymour, but âDonât Feed The Plantsâ is an absolute banger, and I get a good cry out of it too.
I heard they might be making a remake of the movie, which Iâm hesitant about, again, seeing how CATS turned out. We can only hope that they listen to the fans, and make the right decisions when it comes to making it.
SpIn #4 - Jojoâs Bizarre Adventure
Ok, so this is one of those aformentioned âis it a SpIn or a hyperfixationâ moments. Iâve been hyperfixated on JJBA for the past 6 months and Iâm physically unable to shut up about it XD
Iâm about to start watching part 4 of the anime, I just need to set aside time to do it. I watched it a tad out of order, my ex told me to skip part 1 and watch a synopsis of it, so I started with part 2 (Iâm a huge part 2 stan btw), got to part 3, was confused by everything going on with DIO, so I went back, watched part 1, and then resumed part 3.
As I mentioned, Iâm a huge part 2 stan, so I currently have several part 2 character cosplays in the works. This includes (but isnât limited to) Caesar, Suzi Q, Playboy Bunny Caesar (inspired by a piece of art that @tinypalettes drew), Tequila Joseph (but like,, actually decent drag), and Cleric Suzi Q from the JJBA D&D session me and my friends are having. I also want to do a drag/latex DIO look, along with maid DIO inspired by an old JUMP cover and a fanfic I read the other day.
I get a little nervous about doing/going to JJBA events at conventions because Iâm worried about running into my ex, but knowing that I have supportive people with me helps a lot.
SpIn #5 - Homestuck/Hiveswap
So this is another one of those âSpIn or hyperfixationâ moments as well. Iâve been into Homestuck since late 2016, but Iâve never been super involved in the fandom. Like, yes, I have a moirail and Iâve been in and hosted panels at conventions, but Iâve encountered some toxic people in it, so I try to distance myself.
I will say, however, that Homestucks are loyal to their fandom, and will buy merch if they like it. When I say that, yes, I mean myself, but itâs mostly about my Etsy customers. If you look at my sales history, the majority of it is quadrant necklaces, almost always the moirail ones. I get some orders for horns and pillows too, but not as often as the necklaces. When it comes to exhibiting at conventions, it depends. I normally donât put Homestuck stuff out on the table because itâs such a niche, but when I do, people will usually buy a lot at once. For example, at Wizard World Madison in 2018, one guy bought $50-60 worth of Homestuck sprites from me. That weekend was the best Iâve ever done, and I havenât come close since. My Etsy store started out as just me making Homestuck sprites for me and my friends too, so Iâm glad that I was able to expand and give others what I like as well.
Iâm also involved in a Hiveswap YouTube musical, and Iâve made a lot of good friends through it! Weâre on hiatus right now, but we should be starting up again soon! I also have a lot of Homestuck cosplays! Iâve done Karkat, John, Jade, Nepeta, Trickster Nepeta, Karkat Peixes (a bloodswap), and I have a lot more that I want to do!
SpIn #6 - Danganronpa
So Danganronpa is (probably) one of those last âSpIn or hyperfixationâ things. Iâve been into Danganronpa since 2018 (I think?), and DR:AE is my favorite (mostly because Iâm a Kotoko and Toko kinnie oof-)!
Right now, my only Danganronpa cosplay is Toko/Syo, but Iâm working on a couple of j-fashion (particularly menhera and fairy kei) inspired looks to do with my moirail (who was the one who got me into j-fashion), and just some Amazon/eBay cosplays as well! Iâm also working on a Future Foundation Toko cosplay to do with my moirail so we can do Tokomaru together (though most of it is thrifting and clothes I already have)!
I own DR1, SDR2, and DR:AE on my computer, but I donât play them much. The second trial in DR1 gives me panic attacks because of the whole breaking of trust thing (Iâve heard the audios and I just,,, break down), I havenât touched SDR2 yet, and Iâm sucky at the controls for DR:AE. However, Iâve watched the anime and Iâve seen letâs plays, so I have a feel for whatâs going on, though I may not remember it all correctly since I havenât watched them in a while.
ââââââââââââ
So thatâs most (if not all) of my special interests! I probably forgot some, but itâs getting late and I need to pack for my Momâs and go to bed. I hope you all have a good night!

pt.2 of yesterday
I donât want to flood peopleâs dashes, so hopefully answering your messages here will suffice!
anonymous asked: Hi! I wanted to tell you how much I love your work and how you make me enjoy every Monday thanks to your regular updates ! I saw a previous anon telling you how your writings lacks of emotion and I totally disagree with them... obviously everybody wonât like it but your stories just DONâT lack of love or emotion this is madness I want to thank you for publishing your amazing stories freely here for everyone to read. (Sorry if my English is weird Iâm french ejfjekfjd)
âthis is madnessâ LOL
Youâre hilarious, anon. And your english is perfectly fine!!!
anonymous asked: Hello! Im the culinary student anon who sent you an ask a while ago and i saw you received an ask about the lack of emotion from your stories. I read kitchen romance and i actually really really like it and donât quite understand how it lacks in emotions as I interpreted the stories more like the beginning of the oc and jinâs love story and they are only starting to open up to each other so i guess thats why anon might feel like it lacks romantic vibe from both of the characters. (1)
Anonymous said: Just want to tell you that youâre one of the best writer and ive been following you for 2/3 years now, you never failed to amaze me with your writings!! All your stories are so well written that i sometimes wonder how do you come up with such an amazing plot every single time and your stories are always nice to re-read and the effort you pour into creating your stories is also admirable (2)
while i was reading kitchen romance and ive only started s&c (currently on chapter 4) i can say that its pretty similar with how it is irl (and the part where we find out jk is an iu fans reminded me of my ex-crush whose also a culinary student, i would like to tell you a story about it but ill just waste your time lol) , just want to send you a few encouragement and love for you and your writings *sending virtual hugs* (3) -đ©đ»âđłanon
Youâre too kind, thank you (and also, welcome back!). Iâll be frank, there was a hot second I was considering taking down Kitchen Romance but I didnât cause I donât want my efforts of editing it to go to waste asdfghjkl. I canât believe youâve been sticking around me for so long :â) itâs always nice to know some folks stay. Anyway, Iâm glad that Sugar and Coffee is pretty similar to how it works irl since I tried my best to do research. I definitely love a good storytime as well so donât worry about wasting my time :>
Anonymous said: a good majority of your fics display an unfathomable amount of DEPTH. regarding character development. plot. even the shortest lines of dialogue reveal so much more to the character and unveil their true emotions. i personally think the more REALISTIC side of love may be perceived as 'bland.' âemotionless.â whatever you want to call it. nothingâs wrong with portraying a relationship that isnât overboard with a whole lot of tooth aching fluff or lowkey annoying pda. +1
Anonymous said: thereâs nothing wrong with taking out a bit of emotion to fit the PERSONALITIES of the characters. some people out there donât necessarily feel a lot of emotions. so itâs honestly not really a mistake if a story lacks it (unless it was unintentional). subtlety is an art that is hard to master, but youâve done it! and to respond to the anon, sometimes, if you skim through a fic without reading every word the author intended for you to read, +2
Anonymous said: then itâs quite common to not feel the full extent of the emotions you were supposed to feel. just a thought but no hate. weâre all entitled to our opinions. but besides that, kina, you write on a vast scale ranging from hardcore angst to diabetes-inducing fluff. and you do it beautifully. sure there are some stories that are better than others, but i believe a LOT of it comes down to personal preference and taste. +3
Anonymous said: even if you are feeling creatively limited, you work hard to continue writing for your readers, and your determination and diligence wILL NOT GO UNNOTICED. i just want you to know that you write amazingly. your syntax is practically immaculate, your characters feel real⊠the endings of your stories always wrap something up and the strings are tiedâeven if it isnât necessarily a happy ending. you can convey hundreds of different characters through WORDS. +4
Anonymous said: iâll have you know that itâs hard to write. itâs even harder to write about people who arenât YOU. so as someone who looks up to you a lot, i want to commend you for your writing. some of your fics that i read on a monthly basis: tears of a villain, a piece of the moonlight, head over heels to hell, ghost in the machine, a mark of betrayal, a kiss of poison, until yesterday, the truth between us and arcadia. +5
Anonymous said: to be fair, there were way more fics but i didnât want to make this message any longer than it already is LOL. i find these pieces wonderful. heart wrenching. and SO DAMN EMOTIONAL IT PLAGUES MY MIND FOR DAYS. also youâre literally one of the few fucking people who can use the em dash correctly. thank you so much for sharing your talent with us! +6
Oh my goodness. I donât even know what to say, anon. This is a whole damn thesis and itâs about my fics :â> You know, itâs easy to brush off fanfiction as a âwhateverâ thing and indeed, it isnât that big of a deal compared to some things in the world. But I really do take all my stories seriously and put forth a lot of effort - so to see it recognized and appreciated it makes me beyond happy. Itâs good to know that my efforts havenât gone to waste at all and that there are people out there who will support me no matter the endeavours I take. Thank you so much. You donât know how much this means to me.
((Also, honestly I picked up the em dash usage after I wrote The Truth Between Us with gukyi who used it. Iâm pretty sure Iâm not using it right but to hear that I am, god damn thatâs a breath of relief right there))
backtobleuside submitted: Are you kidding me!? Your stories donât lack love at all. Theyâre the kind of fics that you read, soak it all in and then come back for more. Iâve cried so much when I read Beyond reach, Boo-lieve in me, A piece of the moonlight, His name, Tell me lies etc. etc, and also laughed and felt the emotions of not just the OC, but also the other characters. Kitchen Romance was also so fluffy and sweet and personally, I donât think that anything needs to be added to it. Anyway, your fics do not lack emotionâyouâre probably the first author I send a message to because your stories impacted me a lot and left a strong impression on me. I even imagine your characters as real people who have real lives that continue on even after the story is done.
asdfghjkl thank you :â) I see you every week and sometimes several times at that. I really appreciate your consistent feedback and following. You never fail to send me a message too which I appreciate a lot. Iâm glad youâre enjoying everything Iâm producing!!
youngfleurever said: Would just like to say that your fics do in fact make me violently sob to the boy where my eyes are so swollen I have trouble opening them the next day and I wake up feeling like thereâs sawdust in my mouth because Iâm dehydrated.
oh my god. please keep yourself hydrated hahahahhaha more importantly, how do you know what sawdust in your mouth is like. WHAT have you been doing LOL
Anonymous said: Iâve felt emotions that Iâve never felt before when I read your fics.... so as a person that has read your entire masterlist, I DO NOT think that your fics lack emotion.... I hope you donât feel disheartened because youâre one of my favourite writers, not just on tumblr but like, evER đđđđđđ
Please, even if I was disheartened, the overwhelming amount of feedback and praise has completely overridden it :â)

haylo4ever said: Sorry had to add my 10 cents. You're such a talented writer,,, I WISH I could write a smol smol 1/1000000000 that you write,,, like I remember when I followed you bc I was in awe of your writing.... I mean?? Sure maybe not every fic hits it with someone but it's just ridic to name drop (a friend nonetheless) when you're all extremely talented writers.
Trust me, writing comes with practice!! I should honestly just tattoo that on me. God knows my first fanfic was absolutely GARBAGE. I didnât know pacing, didnât know that I should separate chunks of paragraphs, how to write dialogue or describe scenes properly. I went in blind. Even my second, third and fourth fanfic was garbage. You could definitely get to âmy levelâ or even far surpass it with enough dedication and practice. I mean Iâve been writing for four years, so thank GOD thereâs been improvement. I wouldnât be natural if there wasnât. But clearly the more you practice, the better you improve! That applies to anything.
The me in ten years will certainly be better now.
Anonymous said: Hi kina! Iâm here in support of kitchen romance! I actually didnât feel like it was missing a ton of fluffy moments (and I say that as a huGE LOVER OF FLUFF) but the story was just as entertaining in the whole chase of them getting closer to each other! Itâs honestly one of my favorite one shots Iâve read lately and Iâm not saying that lightly! Also, that anon that said your work lacks emotion has probably not read like half of your masterlist bc oO MAN QUEEN OF MAKING ME CRY- black heart anonđ€
Thank you :â]
Anonymous said: Ok Iâm very offended wow the audacity!Specially coming for my baby kitchen romance like that story made me feel so much and itâs only one of the many fics you have written kina like Iâm literally baffled like dynasty has made me cry scream happy and hot all at the same time and I was literally just thinking about it that whole weekend and this anon has the nerve to say your stories lack emotions? When you are literally the queen of show casing all types of emotions in your stories! You did it all
Anonymous said: Also đđđđđđ©hoooooooow and whereeee did they see any lack of love and emotions like have you read jungle park???? Inside my mind??? FREAKING SUGAR AND COFFEE (like this fic is made with love and I- ) Actually you know what , just read the whole masterlistđ©đ©đđđ
LOL tbh I didnât expect Dynasty to receive the love it has. I was actually kind of wary when posting it cause itâs kind of Wild.Â
bangtans-peaceful-piegon said: just gotta say u handled that whole anon thing so well which not only makes me admire u as a writer but even more as a person :] (i mean i knew u were gr8 before the whole deal but yeah love ya đ)
tbh, Iâm not sure how well I handled it cause I was flooded with over 30 messages afterwards (evidently) ;_; which I love and appreciate but Iâm not really as hurt as some people think hahaha criticism should be received well but itâs still hard not to take personally tbh. Itâs gonna have to be something I work on or perhaps itâll be one of those things that Iâll take better with age.

Searching for Discord 1x1
Hello! Iâm looking for some skilled, experienced 1x1 partners for Discord roleplays. Please read to the end as there is a password I won't answer messages without.
âąGeneral/Writing Styleâą
I usually prefer sticking at around 4 paragraphs and up, but quality over quantity for the most part. These days Iâve been favoring a bit of a slower pace and writing 8+ paragraphs, however. I would prefer you write in 3rd person, past tense. Please have decent grammar and spelling, varied vocabulary and sentence structure, as well as decent syntax. Please provide me something of substance to respond to in your responses. Please also be somewhat experienced.
âąAgeâą
18+ only, but 21+ preferred (I'm 23)
âąTimezoneâą
EST. I donât mind what timezone youâre in- waking up to new responses is exciting :)
âąPlatformsâą
Discord is strongly preferred for the actual role-play. I can be convinced to use kik, Reddit, or Tumblr, however.Â
âąResponse Frequencyâą
I'd prefer if you could respond at least a few times a week. I'm a pretty busy student can't always commit to much more than that, so I won't ask that of you. Please try to communicate when you will be gone or significantly less active for several weeks or more. I will try to do the same.
Please donât contact me if you will be gone for a couple weeks plus very early into the role-play. I tend to lose interest very fast if thereâs long breaks at the very beginning. Get me invested and I can wait quite a long time for you, though.Â
I'm a bit less lenient with this when we're still doing introductions, so if we've barely said hello but a few days pass and I hear nothing, I'll assume you're no longer interested or never were in the first place and close our discussion. You are free to assume the same of me.
âąGenreâą
I'm a sucker for modern, romantic slice-of-life with a healthy dose of character-driven drama and angst. I also sometimes like to weave other genres in there too such as Supernatural, Mystery, Action, and Adventure. I'm really open to most things if the plot interests me.Â
âąGender and Romantic Preferenceâą
I strongly prefer playing a female main outside of MxM. Beyond that, I am open to MxF, FxF, NBxM/F, and MxM. Currently, I'm mostly in the mood for an MxF or possibly F//. My apologies, but please note I do not play male in MxF nor do I double up.
I do not engage in dichotomy personality dynamics and like pairings to be close to even as possible in contributions to the relationship. If a scene gets intimate, I'd prefer we fade to black.
âąPlots/Creativityâą
While I have plots listed, you're more than welcome to share plots of your own. I'd prefer it if you are open to brainstorming plot points and bouncing ideas off each other too. Let's keep this interesting for both of us so it stays alive.
âąOCsâą
I would prefer not to roleplay with OCs that are excessively shy, Mary-Sues, or OP. Additionally, please ensure your own OC does not monopolize the plot with their own issues and background. Let's share the spotlight.
I tend to play multiple side-characters and would prefer if you did too.
Please do not control my main OC or any named side characters I introduce. It can really mess with my plans with them if you suddenly auto-kill out of nowhere or something... If necessary, I may permit you to control a side character of mine, but please run it by me first. Communication is key.
âąFandomsâą
I am willing to roleplay within the universe of several fandoms, but please note I do not roleplay as canon characters and would prefer not to roleplay with canon characters either. Please recall that I am more than happy to do original plots too if you aren't into any of these.
-Corpse Party**
-Black Mirror*
-Death Note
-Avatar The Last Airbender*
-Downton Abbey
-Call The Midwife*
-Dragon Quest(IV-IX)***
-Miraculous Ladybug****(I'd love to delve into the more subtle, darker elements like the consequences of a broken miraculous and time travel)
-Fruits Basket***
-Soul Eater
-The Hunger Games
(The number of * indicates craving)
âąOriginal Plotsâą
(Muse I would like to play is bolded. If neither are bolded, I can do either. All of these are open to brainstorming and tweaking!)
(This is an older one of mine, but Iâve recently kinda been in the mood to start it up again.) Marianohâs Culinary Institute is the most renowned school for culinary arts in the country. Any who truly wish to be a master chef would be foolish not to attend. Unless they donât have the means- the tuition is insanely high. Muse A is part of the lucky few of humble beginnings that has been selected to attend via scholarship. They couldnât be more excited. Muse B, on the other hand, comes from a family of celebrity chefs. Their spot at Marianohâs was confirmed before birth. Yet, somehow, they donât share Muse Aâs joy. Far from it, actually. What happens when the two are partnered up for the year?
Muse A has always been at the top of their class since early elementary and thrived on it. They come from a family of high achievers where failure is neither seen nor accepted. Proud and arrogant over their achievements, their grades make them, them. All that changed when Muse B showed up, smashing the entrance exams with marks unheard of. Of course Muse A wouldnât take that lying down, thus, the classic rivalry begins. What happens when the two find they have more in common than they thought? Life on Muse Bâs side is not all it seems as well.
They were the voice in their head. The imaginary friend. For as long as they can remember, Muses A and B have always been there for each other when they needed it. But to everyone else, itâs all in their heads. They was saved from that riptide by pure chance and luck, despite being unable to swim. The bullies were coming for them, but they found that little nook to hide in all on their own. Flash forward to current day, the two are attending the same university. Muse A is an upstart, trying to make a name for themself academically and socially, the latter going much better than the former. Muse B is the opposite, the social anxiety fueled by a rocky past relegating them to basically a shut in. Their grades, on the other hand, are phenomenal despite barely ever attending classes. When a sibling suggests they try working as a tutor to get out more, they have their doubts, but decide to go for it anyway. The first student walk-in, however, just so happens to be Muse A...
Please note the idea for this world is not mine, but I unfortunately donât remember the title of the original story. If this sounds familiar to you, feel free to comment the details and Iâll credit the story! Anyhow, in a smaller country, tucked away from the rest of the world, people are born into a unique system. They are either Energy Givers or Energy Takers. Their ability activates from a young age and they are paired with the most compatible one of the opposite ability as soon as possible, usually early elementary school. Energy is transferred from the giver to the taker via a kiss on the lips and must be done at least once a day. While partners are not necessarily romantically involved, the two depend on each other immensely. Without receiving energy, the taker will quickly tire, weaken and collapse becoming comatose and at risk of death. If they do not give energy, the giverâs energy supply builds up making them suffer from nausea, lethargy, fevers, and other unpleasant symptoms that will gradually worsen to the point where their life is in danger. Should a pair of partners be separated either through death or other means, the lone individual must visit a donation center where they will be paired with a donor that somewhat matches until a more compatible, new permanent partner is finally found.].
Now for the main plot. Muse A and Muse B are a Giver-Taker pair that has been together since childhood. Their feelings grew from platonic to romantic and by high school, the two were a golden, seemingly unbreakable couple. Near the end their last year, all comes to a grinding halt when Muse B suddenly breaks up with Muse A and disappears. Five years down the line, Muse A is a jaded, lonely individual, known for constantly going from donor to donor. Deciding they need a change, they take a teaching job in a boarding school on the other side of the country. Yet when they walk into the faculty office on their first day, they find themselves placed in a desk right next to Muse A. Not only this, the two are in the same department. How will things proceed?
Contact Instructions:Â Please either message me here @addienadelaide or email me at [email protected] with BOTH your favorite season and a recently written roleplay sample. If all looks good I will give you my discord and we can move things there. Hope to hear from some of you soon!

im at that stage of fatigue from the day where iâm so tired the fanfiction is writing itself in my mind theough dialogue but iâm too insanely tired to sit down and write it all out and i work a shift in the morning too so i dont even have time ... so ill forget everything come morning
[[MORE]]
psych, ima try to outline it rn
this is after a little sacrifice and also after season of storms and takes place in cidaris (im not clear on if kerack is the capital so season of storms dealt with the proper king of cidaris or if it was just a local kingship but im hcing that cidaris is also a capital city as well as the region/nation).
this is geralt and dandelion going to the grape festival mentioned in a little sacrifice btw
main goal for this is to basically give dandelion more depth and address his identity issues and backstory and just how his character is in general
valdo marx (as far as i am headcanoning in terms of appearance right now) is of course , also a twink and they have similar builds but valdo isnt as skinny as dandelion because he has access to three full meals every day. he has dark brown hair and green eyes, and i might give him the same hair and beard as dandelion from tw3 just to spite cdpr. he used to sport green/purple doublets as an independent artist, but now as the reaident troubadour of cidaris, heâs adopted their emblatic colors (blue and white) and wears a doublet with a sash of these colors. he doesnât have poofy sleeves, instead he has these ruffs and like... bellbottom sleeves. also this method of embellishing clothes that i learned from a glamour video (itâs @ 4:30ish) called slashing is applicable to his outfits. i think he veers away from tights unlike dandelion, so he wears more breeches than anything. he doesnât have detailed embroidery like dandelion, but rather patterned/quilted areas with silver and some small pearls added for decoration in these sections as well.
so geralt and valdo have to be placed together somehow in a conversation. basically he wants to #expose dandelion for being a fraud... but heâs not doing it out of Pure Evil, heâs (vaguely) kind of like the lodge of sorceresses in which itâs like, he is only wanting things to be done his way because really he thinks itâs the best way to do things. heâs really a victim of academia, he would be someone that supports the fact that instruments are like $1,000 each.
basically he and dandelion were classmates at oxenfurt and at first hit it off very well and shared notes and thoughts and sexual partners and all was splendid. but they got competitive and valdo HATES that dandelion does NOT come from a family known for music or any kind of art. basically dandelion is a novus homo, but in the world of music, and valdo comes from an established family which has been musically inclined for generations. he feels that ppl like dandelion just wanna go to oxenfurt for shits and giggles and dont take this opportunity seriously because theyre too blinded by their own arrogance to actually learn anything. and he may be right in regards to a lot of other children of wealthy noble families that attend oxenfurt. but dandelionâs case was different and this he does not like to admit. also he hates how dandelion is... inclined to... a life of debauchery... because he feels he perpetuates stereotypes of artists being good for nothing penniless drunkards and lechers, and makes it harder for Real Professionals from Actual Lineage to get a job. also he has a disdain for how dandelion really wanted to travel and admired the âmusicians of the worldâ that never attended some fancy college, and again valdo sees this as him not appreciating the opportunity he was given, because all you ever need to interact with is this little 1 mile by 1 mile square of oxenfurt, and not even the whole city, just the college. also when valdo tells all this to geralt he goes give him a judgemental up and down look like... âjulian loves meeting, writing about, and... ahem... fraternizing with... all kinds of ... people.â (he was gonna say âtrash,â but geralt has swords and cats eyes, so valdo swallowed that last word). ALSO ALSO valdo thinks dandelion is further destroying the sanctity of academic places like oxenfurt by training good for nothings from other nobody families, like essi daven, who was actually from a noble family but one not too rich because it was kind of distant from the ruling family. and since she threw a fit they let her do her own thing instead of marrying her off.
also valdo is like âjulianâ ahem, ... âdandelion,â as you know him... i donât know why he uses that absurd little nickname,â because he just finds the idea of a pseudonym stupid (since hes from a famous musical family of course he wants to highlight his lineage). and again he dislikes how dandelion is Corrupting Others by not only mentoring essi at oxenfurt, but training her in an âunorthodox fashion,â ie they just duet and talk shit about random stuff and he advises her weird things like âget a cool fake name so all the girls have something to scream as you go on stageâ
as they interact with each other, valdo and dandelion actually are kind of opposite of dandelion and essi. they dont throw ANY snide remarks and keep it all under wraps with just pleased smiles and then as soon as theyre out of earshot (a long way for bards) theyre like âi am going to take the replacement strings of my lute and choke the lights out of that tone-deaf idiotâ ... geralt is like đł to see aggression in dandelion and hes a bit intimidated at first but then is like Bro Are you Fucking Okay ????? Because its so unnatural for dandelion to be Actually Upset about something and not be ok within half a day
scene where dandelion is staring at the mirror and geralt is like you have been staring at the mirror for a long time, even by your standards... dandelion is like âi have to change something... geralt, look at me. look at me. (says it again bc geralt didnt look up the first time). if you could change one thing about my face, what would it be?â and geralts obviously like ânothing.â and dandelions like dont be fucking difficult just tell me i need to know i need your opinion and geralt is like that IS my opinion i sincerely like your face the way it is. something something blah blah blah tenderness geralt says smth like dandelion you have a lot of loyal fans okay...... and hes trying to refer to himself but he doesnt wanna say it aloud
i think something about dandelion talking about who he was (basically referring to âjulianâ in the 3rd person) and just very uncharacteristically self-loathing but them he pops back into his little arrogant self ... basically he covers that everyone Fucking Laughed at him for wanting to sing but he did it and now heâs the best and also, sexy. in this whole scene (same scene as last bullet point) he is also saying that he needs to âprove himselfâ and geralt is just like What More Can You Do, You Are Literally Famous... but dandelion is just pensive about it
also he says something like âtheres two versions of me... julian with a dream who nobody knows, and dandelion whoâs famous and loved.â and geralts like âtheres three.â âthree?â âthereâs also dandelion, the one i know, who, it doesnât matter if heâs famous or what, because i just like him and enjoy his company.â BECAUSE i dont know how not to be blunt and not hit my readers over the head with what i wanted to get across. geralt is a blunt man however so i think its acceptable to do this
basically this fic is âdandelion can have little a OOCness for character developmentâ
tbh its not too ooc (hopefully) bc hes not like downright depressed, hes just pensive, like he is when hes trying to think of a good title or rhymes and nothing is working. nothing is working! hes frustrated!!!
i have nooooo idea how to resolve this conflict ive introduced. i think valdo and dandelion have to sing a duet together and it is like skating on thin ice with sharks underneath . MAYBE valdo gets possessed by,, something? not a demon bc IVE HAD ENOUGH GOETIA AFTER SEASON OF STORMS but you know An Entity, and dandelion is like wow this is an improvement!! and geralts like no it isnt, now i have to exorcise this fucker
also throughout this i think that the king and queen of cidaris (maintaining that kerack isnt the capital and is just another kingship within the nation) looooveveeveveeee dandelion and his presence and are like oh dandelion you are always welcome in our court :) which also totally pisses valdo off because its like dandelion came into his work/home and fucked both of his bosses and is trying to steal their loyalty through Sexual Appeal. which. may ring true. but dandelion does stuff for fun and not for manipulation soooo valdo is a little wrong in thinking dandelion is manipulating them. and this also adds to valdos resentment of dandelion for being so promiscuous and also writing about his love affairs bc he feels it detracts from The Art...
basically this fic is also me telling academia and ppl who feel art should be limited to a certain crowd to go stuff it cause no one cares and creativity and learning is only human of anyone. also an excuse to give dandelion character depth and also an excuse to break how geralt is always the gloomy one and dandelion has to cheer him up, i think though they do have their strong personalities, relationships should ideally go both ways in terms of emotional support so it shows geralt has the capacity to support a dandelion with festering anger and personal identity problems. also a way for geralt to learn a little abt dandelions backstory without learning/spoiling the fact that hes a v*scount and actually noble and wealthy (they just refer to his family as being wealthy enough to pay for oxenfurt which is significant but not astounding)

Poor Characterization
Boundless sees an overall regression from Timeless in terms of quality of characterization. It almost feels as though Salvatore is saying, "I don't have room for character development because Boundless is such a non-stop action novel". Most of the page space is taken up by the many unfolding events, with opponents one after another that Zaknafein has to duel in the past and a full on war fought on at least three separate fronts in the present. However, even putting aside the fact that so many of those pages could've been truncated and space dedicated to character progression, instead, what we find in Boundless is shallow, self-inconsistent, lazy, and really, just mediocre. I'm not sure what effect Salvatore was trying to achieve through the cursory and flat overviews he gives to all of the characters in his Dramatis Personae section that precedes the body of the novel. Descriptions like the one for Briza Do'Urden, which reads, "Malice's eldest daughter. Huge and formidable" makes me wonder if Salvatore was going for humor. Yet, there isn't anything funny about the rest of the characterizations, except in an ironic sense in how bad they are, as though they were the words of someone trying to explain the characters to a not very bright child. I suppose it's an appropriate precedent, given how the "fleshed out" characterizations go in the novel.
"Maestro"
As suggested by Boundless' cover art, there's a lot of Jarlaxle in the book. Sadly, this manifests as a sort of butchering of Jarlaxle's capability and characterization in both the past and present timelines of the novel. Overall, Jarlaxle is very flat-footed, constantly doing the proverbial rocking back on his heels and falling on his butt. A character rocking back on their heels is one of Salvatore's favorite descriptors, and while, ironically, that phrase doesn't appear in Boundless, Salvatore does an excellent job of showing that Jarlaxle does it a great deal. This would be great in terms of showing instead of telling, except that, unfortunately, it happens when Jarlaxle's supposed to be doing something clever or there's some great revelation that manages to escape his masterfully strategic mind. I'd often joked that Salvatore isn't smart enough to write a character who's supposed to be as smart as Jarlaxle is, and this is very much evident in Boundless, except there's nothing funny about it. It's really just disappointing to see a character who is actually a nonconformist dragged down and forced to conform to Drizzt. Jarlaxle is also becoming more like Drizzt in the sense that he acts very differently from how he's supposed to be, all while we are being told over and over how he is truly, for real, pinky swear that certain way. In Drizzt's case, it is a judgmental, sanctimonious, pretentious, self-aggrandizing and presumptuous twat hailed to be the shining hero of goodness and virtue. And now, sadly, in Jarlaxle's case, a dopey, shortsighted, reckless, inattentive and not very bright clown wrapped in the cloak of one whose flair is matched only by his genius.Â
As he is presented in Boundless, Jarlaxle would've been wholly consumed by the perils of Menzoberranzan almost immediately. The Jarlaxle in the past timeline should be closer to how he was in the Legacy of the Drow trilogy, but he's been tempered to beyond how he is in The Sellswords trilogy. He's even more tame than how he appears in Waterdeep: Dragon Heist, where he features as a genteel, at worst mischievous, sort of villain. Jarlaxle has become closer to Drizzt than even Zaknafein, with Zaknafein being more brutal. The Jarlaxle of the past is nearly identical to the Jarlaxle of the present, as though he were transcribed across the hundreds of years. I don't understand the reason that Salvatore did this. The current version of Jarlaxle is unpalatable enough, with all of the "intrigue" and the being for himself stance as nothing but empty posturing. It makes no sense that Jarlaxle would be that way in the past, for supposedly, experiencing the personality-altering phenomenon that is Drizzt Do'Urden hadn't even happened then.Â
That said, let's look at some details. First, Boundless introduces an activity that Jarlaxle and Zaknafein enjoyed together, "cavern jumping", which is what we call free running or parkour in our world. They first partake of this activity in a super inspired and uniquely-named chapter entitled "Running Free". I was sarcastic just now, but I'm absolutely not sarcastic when I say this: parkour is dangerous. Even in our world, experienced traceurs can and do get hurt, and they don't normally run in an environment where many individuals stand to benefit if a fatal accident befalls them. Despite Jarlaxle saying that the risk is what makes the activity fun, this seems like a weak justification injected by a paranoid narrator who's aware that they're recounting a very unlikely event. For, the reality is, it's already dangerous that Jarlaxle and Zaknafein perform risky acrobatic maneuvers in one of the deadliest cities of Faerûn, they're doing it without any of their magical equipment. The very fact that Jarlaxle engages in this activity is reckless, and what makes it even more unlikely is the lack of assurances that are put in place to minimize potential "accidents". Zaknafein and Jarlaxle's cavern-jumping escapades aren't at all like when they pillaged Barrison Del'Armgo's armory. Although both are adrenaline-seeking activities, the latter was a controlled simulation that Jarlaxle had engineered and pulled strings to achieve. Jarlaxle might be a daredevil and an excitement-seeker, but he's not stupid, and he's supposed to be prudent, else everything that he's worked for would be for naught. He takes risks but we've been told that they're calculated ones, ones in which he's already figured out and examined every possible outcome. There's nothing calculated about cavern-jumping, and the only aspect that's even approaching consistent is their route. Even then, "consistent" can hardly be applied, for the two are constantly one-upping each other, pushing one another to quicker paces and more daring maneuvers. There aren't even Bregan D'aerthe scouts watching every turn, keeping an eye out for any parties of ill intention that might target the two high profile male drow. Heck, Jarlaxle isn't even aware of who's watching them, and he should both know and care, especially since Zaknafein is big enough of a target that many individuals wouldn't care about implicating Jarlaxle while attempting to "cavern-jump" Zaknafein. In fact, we even see in the same chapter one such interested party, and given that so much of the book is about people wanting to kill Zaknafein, I feel like the whole free running thing was just an excuse for Salvatore to show off his action scenes, except that there isn't anything to show off there. Simply showing off to this degree puts both of them at a disadvantage given how cutthroat and scheme-based drow society is supposed to be. Shouldn't Jarlaxle be worried about illustrating how flexible and agile he is, and doesn't Zaknafein want opponents to underestimate him?
Far from being circumspect, Jarlaxle doesn't seem to think at all. Even obvious things that would've occurred to a novice strategist escapes the one indirectly dubbed as "maestro". Following the fight between Zaknafein and Duvon Tr'arach, a holder of a century-long grudge against the weapons master who destroyed his house and humiliated him in combat, Jarlaxle is surprised to find that the drow whom he thought were ambushers were actually reinforcements brought by Zaknafein. This is not evocative of a streetwise genius maestro super spy. Of course Zaknafein would bring back-up, he knows the way of his society and knows how many want him dead. It would have been more reasonable for Jarlaxle to be surprised if Zaknafein hadn't brought anyone from his house with him. Salvatore has Jarlaxle thinking Zaknafein clever, but what should've happened is that Jarlaxle should have known about Zaknafein's backup in the first place, and have had agents monitoring them the whole time instead of embarrassing himself with his lack of foresight. Even better would have been if he feigned being surprised and impressed while we see Jarlaxle's agents melt back into the shadows without them alerting Zaknafein's assistants.
Jarlaxle being blindsided by the relationship between Zaknafein and Dab'nay, while more reasonable than the previous example, nonetheless doesn't belong to the same drow  who, during the Crenshinibon era, knew immediately that his two lieutenants were conspiring together against him. It's true that Jarlaxle is younger and less experienced during the flashback scenes of Boundless, but there's already a rapport between him and the members of his band, a trust that would not have built up solely based on individuals sharing the same plight. Jarlaxle's followers are fiercely loyal to him, and not solely because of his charisma. Jarlaxle shows these second-class citizens of his society something they've never known before, that someone is interested in who they are. He wins their favor because all they've known previously is that their worth is measured by their bloodline, their aptitude in combat and their aptitude in the bedroom. Even if Jarlaxle's intellect wasn't enough to allow him to foresee Dab'nay and Zaknafein hooking up as a possibility, his personal knowledge of Dab'nay should've suggested the probability to him. There's another poor characterization in that if Zaknafein's hatred of priestesses was as absolute and blinding as we've been told that it is, the only dagger he'd have plunged into Dab'nay wouldn't have been the one that's permanently attached to him. However, the relationship between Dab'nay and Zaknafein being what it's forced to be, surely, Jarlaxle would've known Zaknafein well enough to at least suspect the possibility.Â
Although Jarlaxle is only literally stated to have "for once, seemed at a loss for words", his demonstrated lack of cleverness fails to back this up. Even in the scenario in which that is explicitly written, it's uncharacteristic of Jarlaxle to not know what to say. The passage reads:
So, from this we are to believe that the genius Jarlaxle can't produce an answer to that simple statement, when even I can think of a number of things to say on the fly: that Jarlaxle's not just any drow, that there are varying levels of trust that should be adjusted based on the circumstance, that there's such a thing as "trust but verify", that, fundamentally, the drow word for "trust" isn't as black and white as what Zaknafein is demanding. Jarlaxle's int score is a staggering 20, and he should easily come up with everything I've come up with just now and many many more answers that I can't even begin to think of with my far less staggering intellect. Things like these are just downright embarrassingly inept portrayals of Jarlaxle's alleged brilliance.
In the current timeline, Jarlaxle is even more dull, which I suppose is appropriate given the nerfing of who he was in the past. In addition to being just as flat-footed and shortsighted as his past incarnation in Boundless, Jarlaxle draws some really inaccurate conclusions. For instance, "Jarlaxle knew, of course, that Bruenor was more friend to Drizzt than Zaknafein had ever been, and indeed, more father to Drizzt than Zaknafein had ever been." Really? He knows, of course and indeed, this totally untrue assessment, does he? The first might be true, for Zaknafein wasn't present in Drizzt's life for nearly as much as Bruenor was, and even while he was there, the interactions between him and his son was restricted. But when did Bruenor risk his life on numerous occasions to simply ensure that Drizzt's moral compass and free will were not tainted? When did Bruenor sacrifice himself so that Drizzt might live? Bruenor was never even in a position to entreaty an assailant to take him instead of Drizzt. Perhaps if Salvatore defines father figures as aloof and distant presences in one's life who give tough love but never direct validation, then certainly Bruenor has been more of a father to Drizzt than Zaknafein was. However, the reality is that Bruenor never protected Drizzt the way that Zaknafein did and never guided Drizzt the way Zaknafein did. The only way that it would make sense for that assessment to belong to Jarlaxle is if Jarlaxle's own understanding of parent and child relationships is so incomplete that he doesn't know better, or if he's as stupid as he is shown to be in Boundless. The first possibility is most likely true from a personal angle for Jarlaxle, but Jarlaxle has lived long enough on the surface, mingling with enough surface folk to know, especially with what should be his level of perceptiveness, what it means to be a good father. He would need to have a good understanding of those kinds of dynamics, because they contain weaknesses that can be exploited. So, really, the only thing that would make all of this consistent is the latter possibility, which sadly, is where everything is trending anyway.
I'm not very emotionally invested in Jarlaxle, though I prefer him to most of the rest of the somewhat bland characters we see in Boundless. So when this many things make someone like me unhappy about Jarlaxle's characterization, I'd hate to see what someone who feels towards him like I feel towards Artemis Entreri will take away from Boundless. I'm sure that I'm missing a lot of irksome things, but the ones that I've pointed out are what stood out to me, and I'll end the discussion of Jarlaxle with one final example. In both Timeless and Boundless, Jarlaxle has this strange and decidedly non-Menzoberranzanyr perspective regarding "married couples" of drow. The usage of "husband" and "wife" in these books is extremely weird, because as we know from all D&D and Forgotten Realms source material, including Salvatore's own books, that there is no formality in Lolthite drow relationships. Females take males at their pleasure, abandoning them as whimsically as they pick them up, and being a Patron of a house means nothing. What's even more strange is that Zaknafein isn't even the Patron of House Do'Urden, Rizzen still holds that title while Zaknafein and Malice are sexually active together, yet since Timeless, Zaknafein has been referred to as Malice's husband. Furthermore, while, as far as we know, Jarlaxle has never slept with the partners of people that he likes, it was always more of a strategic decision rather than a moral one. For instance, he found Calihye and Dahlia unstable, thus not cuckolding Entreri and Drizzt, and the closest he'd come to showing interest to a "taken" partner was with Catti-brie, but even then, morals aren't what prevent him from pursuing her. Yet, steeped in the degenerate society of Menzoberranzan, Jarlaxle prefers not to have sexual contact with Malice because Zaknafein is his friend. Where did this belief come from? It certainly doesn't exist in drow culture, males are sex objects for the females, perhaps sometimes rising to the rank of favored toy, nothing more. In a society like that, the toy doesn't have delusions of possession. Jarlaxle is one of the few, if not only, male drow in Menzoberranzan who even has a choice, who can even say no to a female without being killed horribly. I get that Salvatore is trying to show that Jarlaxle is honorable towards his friendship with Zaknafein, but he doesn't have to break the character in addition to his own world-building, as well as that of other creatives', to do so. There are so many ways to do it, but I suppose those are less obvious and require more thinking.
Lieutenant
The poor characterizations extend beyond what's done to Jarlaxle. The number of times that an inconsistency arises between what a character is supposed to be/know and how they perceive things or act is staggering. In the past, there is Arathis Hune, Jarlaxle's first and only lieutenant for a long time, and presumably, one of his most trusted friends. Arathis and Jarlaxle should understand each other quite well, so the fact that Arathis didn't foresee that Jarlaxle would assist Zaknafein during Zaknafein's rigged duel with Duvon Tr'arach is unlikely. Arathis might've had an ace in the form of psionic assistance in swaying the match, but unless he is a total fool, he wouldn't think that Jarlaxle wasn't aware of his dalliances, especially with potential allies as powerful as Oblodrans. Furthermore, Jarlaxle's fondness of Zaknafein is enough of a thorn in Arathis' side that Arathis would've certainly anticipated Jarlaxle intervening on behalf of Zaknafein, even if Arathis didn't specifically guess that Jarlaxle would do so by means of lending Zaknafein his eyepatch. Even if Jarlaxle had never explicitly told Arathis about the functionality of his eyepatch, Arathis, who would've certainly witnessed Jarlaxle constantly escaping the various mind-manipulating magics of the priestesses of Lolth, should've been able to deduce that Jarlaxle has a magical item that protects him against such intrusions. Arathis might not be a master genius like Jarlaxle, but he is a drow, who are supposed to be masters of intrigue in their own right as being able to survive in Menzoberranzan requires such of them. Moreover, he is a capable enough drow that Jarlaxle chose him to be at his side, rather than tending the bar at the Oozing Myconid. Yet, Arathis doesn't foresee any of what he should've known immediately, nor did he have a backup plan, which to a drow is something that one possesses as certainly as keen eyesight.
Barbarian
In the present timeline, Wulfgar suffers from the same treatment given Arathis, which is really saying something since Wulfgar's characterization has been all over the place even before his rebirth. Nonetheless, two things that Wulfgar is supposed to be, are one, a good guy if not a hero, and two, not dumb, if not intelligent. Yet, Wulfgar's portrayal in Boundless shows him as possessing none of these positive traits. For the first trait, it wouldn't be the first time that a member of the Companions of the Hall thought or performed something dishonorable. In Hero, this manifests as Regis and Wulfgar literally kicking people who were already down. In Boundless, Wulfgar is surprisingly nonchalant about the possibility of Kimmuriel committing casual murder, even hoping for it:Â
The only thing that Calico Grimm is guilty of, that we're shown anyway, is being boisterous and foolish, which is hardly grounds deserving of death, unless it was early Artemis Entreri doing the adjudication. But this isn't early Artemis Entreri, or even current Artemis Entreri harboring such thoughts, it's Wulfgar, a returned hero. Calico Grimm might be obnoxious, but he's still a comrade in arms whose ship Wulfgar boarded. Even if it were the case that Calico Grimm is actually a pirate, one of the ne'er-do-wells that gives Luskan its shady reputation, it doesn't change the fact that they are on the same side. After all, the Companions of the Hall are supposed to stand for noble self sacrificing values like not randomly murdering people that are even temporarily on the same side as them.Â
Not only is Wulfgar's moral compass unaligned with how it's supposed to be, apparently, the damage that he'd done to his brain during his The Spine of the World alcoholism managed to stay with him through the reincarnation. That, or Drizzt and his supposedly tight-knit group of friends aren't as close as they're made out to be. During Wulfgar's duel with the demon-possessed captain of the fleet besieging Luskan, Kimmuriel imbues Wulfgar with a psionic shield that absorbs all damage and releases it all at once at the absorber's will. It's the same mechanic that's been used countless times in the past, including but not limited to saving  newborn Jarlaxle from Matron Baenre's sacrificial dagger, preventing Calihye's blade from piercing an otherwise defenseless Entreri's heart, and, of course, allowing Drizzt to strike down Demogorgon with one hit. That last scenario is pretty monumental, and the kind of thing that Drizzt would've told his friends every detail of, for even if he didn't volunteer, surely they and others would've pried and pried about how he defeated Demogorgon. Yet, Wulfgar has no idea what's happening when his opponent's blows fail to scratch him. It's just mind-boggling that he doesn't make the connection, especially since psionicists are rare enough already in the Realms, even more so in Salvatore's corner of the Realms; Kimmuriel is literally the only psionicist that the Companions of the Hall know. Wulfgar's failure to put one and one together really leads me to wonder if the whole purpose of making him so obtuse is to perform yet more tedious review and Drizzt-flattering.
"Hero"
Most painful to me, of course, is Artemis Entreri, who only appears a bit more in Boundless than he does in Timeless, but what's done to him in Boundless is pretty bad. Entreri's characterization kicks off on the wrong foot from his entry in the Dramatis Personae section, which reads:
For the umpteenth time, Entreri would not have a concept of "friend", especially how it is presented in the Drizzt books. It's an oversimplification and kills the nuance of a character who would still have significant psychological scars and trust issues, even if he were truly and completely over his childhood traumas, which in itself is highly unlikely. I can forgive this bad summary of Entreri, but I can't overlook how, quite frankly, melodramatic, he's presented to be in Boundless. While the assassin seems to talk the talk, calling Regis a fool and ridiculing him for his naiveté, he definitely no longer walks the walk. The aura of intimidation that's so integral to his character no longer feels present. Entreri is quick to reassure Regis about the safety of Donnola, something that even his tempered down self seems unlikely to do. Regis and Entreri have history, and not all or even most of it was pleasant. It's as though Salvatore forgot that Regis found a helpless and broken Entreri dangling precariously from a branch, and rather than finishing him off quickly as would be the honorable thing to do, Regis stole Entreri's most prized possession, then cut him loose so that his final moments would be spent in fear and helplessness. One as fiercely protective of his own free will as is Entreri would not forget that so easily, and even if he doesn't actively hate the Companions of the Hall anymore, just as it makes sense that Regis is uncomfortable about the stub of his pinky that Entreri had inflicted on him in his previous life, Entreri should've let the little rat squirm before perhaps mentioning off the cuff that all the citizens of Bleeding Vines survived.
The worst thing done to Entreri in Boundless, however, is worse than the physical trials and travails that befall him. Given that the situation that ensnares him is that he's trapped in an unbreakable cocoon being stung on every mentionable (and unmentionable) part of his body by vicious demonic wasps, more and more I feel that it'd be best for Entreri if Salvatore just killed him off before ruining him more. While Entreri's plight is pretty dire, still, it doesn't seem like enough for him to launch into Drizzt journal entries' level of melodrama. Entreri has high levels of pain tolerance, as we've seen countless times in the past with him losing none of his agility or fighting prowess even after taking a blade through the ribs. Furthermore, the amount of psychological punishment he's endured far outweighs what he's gone through physically, such that he shouldn't resort to wishing for death right away, or cursing everyone, including himself, so quickly. I can maybe accept that he'd do so after a couple of tendays, but we only see him in the cocoon for a few days during Boundless. Furthermore, the impression given by how the pain is described in Boundless is significantly less than the pain that Herzgo Alegni inflicted upon Entreri by striking a tuning fork against Charon's Claw. It's more likely that someone of Entreri's discipline and willpower would've found some way to put his mind above the constant pain to focus on figuring out how to get out, if not simply detaching himself from the sensation. Instead, right from the get-go, the first soliloquy we see from him in the cocoon is:
In addition to being too weak, Entreri's portrayed as being too dependent. As a person who's lived twice as long as he should have and endured much more than his fair share of torment, one who is used to depending on no one save for himself, how quickly Entreri cries out for Dahlia, how quickly he wishes for death to be spared the pain, just doesn't fit. Instead it simply completes Salvatore's neutering process, now not only is Entreri a good guy, but he is no longer even a disciplined warrior. Salvatore's handling of Artemis Entreri is akin to what I'd said about Salvatore being not intelligent enough to write someone as brilliant as Jarlaxle. It's clear that Salvatore doesn't have enough understanding of trauma and physical pain thresholds to do justice to Entreri.Â
Mother
Another poor characterization in Boundless has to do with Dahlia, who seems to have completely forgotten about Effron. Effron doesn't make an appearance, or is even so much as mentioned, despite some portion of the novel dedicated to the Hosttower of the Arcane, where he currently resides. While I can buy that Effron isn't significant enough for Gromph to even think of him when declaring the position the Hosttower will take, he is, or at least should be, important enough to Dahlia for her to at least think of him. The relationship between Dahlia and Effron might have started off at a badly, but throughout the entirety of the Neverwinter Saga, Dahlia is tormented by guilt over her son. Seeing what she believed to be the remains of Effron broke Dahlia's mind and will, causing the normally fiery and irrepressible elf to docilely accept being dragged away for further torture. Seeing that Effron was safe and being reunited him would've granted Dahlia closure, but closure doesn't mean that she wouldn't want to see him and be near him. We've seen that Dahlia tends to be very clingy to those she cares about, so it seems unlikely that she'd accept living in a different city from Effron. Given what Dahlia's like, she should be torn between her love for Entreri and her love for Effron, especially as the two male characters don't much care for each other and most certainly wouldn't want to live together, which Dahlia would likely prefer so that she can be close to both. It should be a cause for tension, not Dahlia simply following Entreri around like a pet, not that Entreri would've allowed that anyway. For all of his dislike of Effron and his brusqueness with the general populace, Entreri has shown himself to be extremely devoted to the women that he's loved. Just as he looked for Calihye after she tried to kill him and accepted her back into his life years later, Entreri would've made certain that Dahlia wouldn't be miserable choosing him over her son.Â

off the rack #1303
Monday, March 2, 2020
This is a public service announcement. You will be ticketed for parking on the street during a parking ban even though the snow has already been cleared from the roads. We got a ticket parked in front of our house last week because we couldn't get into our driveway after the grader left a big snow bank at the end of it. I hope to spare anyone from being dinged with what I think is an unfair fine.
Amazing Spider-Man: Daily Bugle #2 - Mat Johnson (writer) Mack Chater (art pages 1-12) Francesco Mobili (art pages 13-20) Dono Sanchez-Almara, Protobunker & Peter Pantazis (colours) VC's Joe Caramagna (letters). I can't read the rest of this 5-issue mini. The art really bothered me this issue. It was hard to tell what was going on the first few pages and then seeing Peter Parker in civvies looking almost exactly like the bad guy confused me further. There are interesting mysteries about Spidey's webbing and a Wilson Fisk involvement with an explosion, but this story probably won't matter in the grand scheme of things, so I don't think I'll miss anything if I bail out here.
Punisher Soviet #4 - Garth Ennis (writer) Jacen Burrows (pencils) Guillermo Ortego (inks) Nolan Woodard (colours) Rob Steen (letters). Frank and Valery go after Konstantin by kidnapping his trophy wife. She's amenable to divorce by Punisher. Thank Garth for improving my mood.
Basketful of Heads #5 - Joe Hill (writer) Leomacs (art) Riccardo La Bella (additional pencils) Dave Stewart (colours) Deron Bennett (letters). Everything leading up to this issue has been circumstantial. Now the villain tells the complete story. I'm rooting for June to survive this mess.
Year of the Villain: Hell Arisen #3 - James Tynion IV (writer) Steve Epting & Javier Fernandez (art) Nick Filardi (colours) Travis Lanham (letters). Heh, it's the Joker who helps Lex beat the Batman Who Laughs. It looks like next issue's pulse pounding conclusion will be Lex and his super villains versus the Batman Who Laughs and his infected super heroes. It's been a while since the Main Man has been in a comic that I've read.
Avengers #31 - Jason Aaron (writer) Gerardo Zaffino, Geraldo Borges, Szymon Kudranski, Oscar Bazaldua, Robert Gill & Mattia De Iulis (art) Rachelle Rosenberg & Mattia De Iulis (colours) VC's Joe Caramagna (letters). I haven't seen Tony Stark in a while so I assumed he was dead. Nope. He was zapped a million years into the past by the master manipulator Mephisto. The devil tries to get Tony's soul. This is a wonderful full issue of Iron Man and if Jason wrote an Iron Man book, I'd read it.
Amethyst #1 - Amy Reeder (story & art) Gabriela Downie (letters). I remember reading the original Amethyst book when it hit the racks in 1983 with the Ernie Colon art. It was fun and weird with a plucky heroine. This new Wonder Comics book has the appeal of having art by Amy Reeder who wowed me with her work on Madame Xanadu and Rocket Girl. Here she is writing as well and the art and story is tight and concise. This is a nice substitute for the dearly departed Naomi book.
Avengers of the Wastelands #2 - Ed Brisson (writer) Jonas Scharf (art) Neeraj Menon (colours) VC's Cory Petit (letters). It's the origin of Captain America of the Wastelands. His name is Grant. I think this is a great way to change tried and true Marvel characters to make them fresh and new. Having them fight an evil Doctor Doom is nice and simple. Four Avengers may become five but they have to contend with a super villain first.
Suicide Squad #3 - Tom Taylor (writer) Bruno Redondo (art) Adriano Lucas (colours) Wes Abbott (letters). The new Squad's first mission under Lok's leadership does not go according to plan. Neither are these super villains what they seem. This is why I read Tom Taylor books. Forget about any new Crises and DCeased and pick up this most excellent comic book for some straight up action and skulduggery.
Kill Lock #3 - Livio Ramondelli (story & art) Tom B. Long (letters). I get why the calligraphy font is used in the Wraith's word balloons but man, is it hard to read. This issue explains why The Kid is innocent and shouldn't be branded. The four droids find the one who can lead them to the Kill Lock's off switch but she betrays them. This universe of sentient robots is pretty cool.
Jessica Jones: Blind Spot #4 - Kelly Thompson (writer) Mattia De Iulis (art) VC's Cory Petit (letters). Each issue has started off with Jessica held captive by the bad guy. The end of this issue reveals who that is and how she was killed and resurrected. I am looking forward to the conclusion to see how she defeats the villain.
Batman Superman #7 - Joshua Williamson (writer) Nick Derington (art) Dave McCaig (colours) John J. Hill (letters). A new story starts here. Part 1 of "The Kandor Compromise" pits the World's Finest duo against Ra's Al Ghul and General Zod. One of the bad guys is working with the good guys. I got bored of the fight between Superman and Rogol Zaar so what happened to the city of Kandor was a surprise to me. I'm interested to see the final fate of the shrunken city.
Giant-Size X-Men: Jean Grey and Emma Frost #1 - Jonathan Hickman (writer) Russell Dauterman (art) Matthew Wilson (colours) VC's Clayton Cowles (letters). This mostly wordless $4.99 US one-shot will be a quick read but I read it twice just to soak in the beautiful art. The story starts with the discovery Storm's body and ends with a problem after Ororo is resurrected. This leads into a story where Jean, Emma, Logan and Scott will have to save Storm again.
Leviathan Dawn #1- Brian Michael Bendis (writer) Alex Maleev (art) Josh Reed (letters). Leviathan succeeded in shutting down every spy agency and the leader has been revealed to be an ex-spy named Mark Shaw. The good guys are still trying to fight back but they're going to need help. Time for Kingsley Jacobs to start up Check Mate again. I like the players he's gathered. I'm looking forward to watching this game unfold.
Finger Guns #1 - Justin Richards (writer) Val Halvorson (art) Rebecca Nalty (colours) Taylor Esposito (letters). And now for something completely different. This new urban fantasy introduces two teenagers with a weird power. Wes discovers that when he shoots people with his left hand he can make them angry. Sadie can calm people down when she uses her right finger gun. They meet by accident at the mall and try to get a handle on their newfound powers. It's a cool concept and I wonder where these kids are going to end up.
Fantastic Four: Grimm Noir #1 - Gerry Duggan (writer) Ron Garney (art) Matt Milla (colours) VC's Joe Caramagna (letters). This one's all about Ben's bad dreams. I thought the bad guy was Nightmare but it's another one of those mystical villains that generally mess with Doctor Strange. I expected some sort of Mickey Spillane type story but there's no murder, just a pretty dame needing rescue. It's a nice character study of the ever lovin' blue-eyed Thing.
Detective Comics #1020 - Peter J. Tomasi (writer) Brad Walker (pencils) Andrew Hennessy (inks) Brad Anderson (colours) Rob Leigh (letters). Two-Face is back and he's more bipolar than ever. This is what I like to see, an old villain presented in a slightly new way. We still have the scarred coin dictating how Harvey acts but there's a new twist with a cult of fanatics and the Church of the Two Strikes. I love how the first page hints at the return of the Court of Owls too.
Falcon & Winter Soldier #1 - Derek Landy (writer) Federico Vicentini (art) Matt Milla (colours) VC's Joe Caramagna (letters). This 5-issue team-up starts off with a heavily armed and armoured hit squad attacking Bucky Barnes in his home. The Winter Soldier emerges unscathed and hops his motorcycle to find out who sent the killers. Meanwhile Sam Wilson is searching for a missing vet. The two meet at a government agency office where all the staff are dead. Wanting to know who's doing all the killing has got me interested in reading the rest but when a preppy killer shows up and kicks both of the heroes asses I decided to put this mini on my "must read" list. The kid's name is the Natural. Picture a blonde Damian Wayne in a pair of Chuck Taylors.
The Amazing Spider-Man #40 - Nick Spencer (writer) Iban Coello & Ze Carlos (art) Brian Reber & Peter Pantazis (colours) VC's Joe Caramagna (letters). The fight between Spider-Man and Chance had to do with a bet that Chance could get one of Spidey's web shooters. What bothered me was how easily that was done and Spider-Man's lack of urgency to get it back. There's a couple of foreshadowing scenes that will keep me reading however. One involves the Clairvoyant device and the other is who Norah Winters is working with.
X-Men #7 - Jonathan Hickman (writer) Leinil Francis Yu (art) Sunny Gho (colours) VC's Clayton Cowles (letters). This issue is dedicated to a new Mutant Ritual called the Crucible. It's a lot shorter than calling it the Arena of Death and Rebirth. It shows how mutants who have lost their powers can get them back. But first we have to endure a deep philosophical discussion between Cyclops and Nightcrawler. It's a real snoozer if you're an action fan.
Action Comics #1020 - Brian Michael Bendis (writer) John Romita Jr. (pencils) Klaus Janson (inks) Brad Anderson (colours) Dave Sharpe (letters). I wish they would stop with the deceiving covers. It looks like Superman is trying to come between Lex Luthor and Leviathan but what actually happens inside is Superman fighting Lex and the Legion of Doom. If it weren't for Young Justice helping out I would have found this issue boring.
X-Men/Fantastic Four #2 - Chip Zdarsky (writer) Terry Dodson (pencils) Rachel Dodson, Karl Story & Ransom Getty (inks) Laura Martin (colours) VC's Joe Caramagna (letters). There's a lot of heroes accusing heroes of shenanigans concerning the disappearance of Franklin and Valeria. They are actually guests of Doctor Doom. Victor wants to reverse what Reed did to his son and I want to know why. With the X-Men converging on Doom Island, good old Doc Doom is prepared for an attack.
X-Force #8 - Benjamin Percy (writer) Bazaldua (art) Guru-eFX (colours) VC's Joe Caramagna (letters). Why did Oscar Bazaldua stop using his first name in the credits? Domino and Colossus attack the flesh factory making assassins using Neena's DNA. The organisation funding the flesh factory has a mysterious benefactor and I'm hanging around to find out who that is. I wish they would change either Sage or Jubilee's costume. I keep getting them confused.

kat! love your all your fics you're an amazing writer! can you share some writing tips for amateur writers out here?
hi anon writing advice tag if youre looking for like...more specific answers? when it comes to writing, its a very subjective experience when it comes to finding inspiration, outline style, word choice, etc but theres a few things i think across the board are important to remember.Â
going under a cut to not clog dashes
- consume as much media as you can. ex: books, music, film etc. i know for me personally im most inspired when im consuming art. i literally cannot write without music, like its genuinely so difficult because i pace my writing against the soundtrack of each scene. and the filtering, editing, and direction style of films/tv series i like will influence, in some manner, how the fic looks in my mind. yes, your plot and characters are found/uncovered in your brain and heart, but these other mediums assist in your interpretation of how youd like to express it and will help inspire the way you describe certain things. so dont be afraid to step back from a doc to consume other forms of art. for me, at least, its really important.
- keep writing and dont let yourself stop. once you decide you want to write a fic or drabble or whatever comes to mind, write it. and once that is done, write more. this is how you develop a style. you will notice the more you practice, the easier it gets. OR you will notice the more you write, the more evolved your writing becomes. this is how you form a style. here is an example:Â
an excerpt from a series i was writing in 2011 in a different fandom:
No one tells you what itâs like to go insane. No one talks about it because, we, as a society, understand the chemistry and the biology of it, but we donât understand the feeling of it. Time had started to compress, slipping around me in a computerized metronome of blood flow and heart beats that had started to tell me nothing except that I was still living. They hadnât strapped me to the bed, but I still couldnât leave and everything about the room started to feel like a cage. Sleep had eluded me since I was pulled out, and through the exhaustion and the haze of sameness I never knew exactly when I was beyond a date of 2266.
I was craving daylight - not the vitamin D, as I was being given a healthy dose of daily vitamins through an IV drip - the natural light and the natural warmth of it, all over my face and skin. The ceiling lights of the room provided an element of ultraviolet light, but after so many hours the falsehood of an invention began to wear a person down. Itâs something you never really think about, the sun, not until you donât have it, not until you havenât seen it for one hundred years.
But when one hundred years feels like three days or two weeks, time really stops mattering and then the sun itself doesnât feel so important.
from Empty Vessels, posted july 2019:
For a while, they do not speak. Minseok looks longingly out over the water, hollowed, as the herbalist regards the dirt on her shoes with an empty stare. In the silence, Junmyeon minutely nods, the bare threads of his patience allowing them space to find their words. Images spring to his mind, all imagined and none wholly formed, each as bleak and battered as the crow in Chanyeolâs arms. He wonders what Minseok has seen, unable to avoid with a clarity bordering on entrapment; he wonders what she has heard, whispers on the wind of a life he thought heâd left behind.
âThe trees are screaming,â she announces, eyes still downcast though her voice is sharp; blunt as the edge of a sword and equally as unforgiving. âTheyâre in pain.â
It settles over him, slow and uncompromising, the notion that trees could make sound - that they would choose to. The oldest wisdom lingers in their branches, and for one brief moment, he sees her as someone as old as their roots.
i, at least, can see an enormous difference in quality and style and thats because ive been writing and writing and writing for a very long time lmao. in 2011 i was 3 years into writing fanfic consistently; at that time, too, i was still working towards my degrees and writing daily for film analysis projects. the more you write, the more you evolve so please please please dont stop just because you feel you arent experienced enough. confidence and style will come over time, just keep yourself in practice.Â
- NOTES MEAN ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. notes on tumblr are a hot take - and while, yes, there is a need for more reblogs and more sharing of content, focusing on statistics will drive you to the brink. joseph gordon levitt released a ted talk last week on how seeking attention is detrimental to your creativity and LORD this is such a good talk because its true. one of the things he discusses is how powerful the feeling of receiving attention - in this case, notes on a fic - drives someone toward output, but is that genuine? now, of course theres always going to be different scenarios or opinions but if you are just starting out with writing please dont post a fic under the assumption or expectation of achieving a note goal. there are so many variables as to what gets notes and what does not - from algorithm to how many people are online to see it to timing to content like you cannot predict what will or will not correspond to x number of notes and x number of followers.Â
instead of setting note or follower goals, set word count goals. when i first started writing for kpop i was actually a pretty concise writer. if you look at the early chapters of hero and wyrm tamer, they all would peak around 4 or 5k words. achieving 10-15K on something seemed absolutely ridiculous and impossible to me - hell, 15K was 10K words under my masters thesis count! why would i want to write that much? but now? im shook if i finish a chapter or fic and the word count is just 4K. those word count goals are exciting for me.Â
nervous about word count goals? thats fine! set a goal to write a genre. always wanted to try high fantasy? dope! do it! want to write some sexy vampires? fuck yeah, everyone loves those! want to write a fic that helps you release some tension or trauma youve experienced? please do that, writing is therapy and has been scientifically proven to help.Â
set goals for making characters, world building, soundtracks, to learn photoshop to make a moodboard. set goals for all kinds of things but pls dont set goals for statistics because these are so variable and very often outside of your control they will very often suck any joy out of your creativity before its had the chance to start.
i hope these help!

My thoughts on Marvelâs War of The Vampires
Recently Marvel comics did a storyline called War of the Vampires.
In this story Draculaâs castle is destroyed and several vampires are vying for power. There are warring factions apparently trying to gain dominion over all the vampires of the the Earth. Â
The supernatural members of The Avengers and their allies are forced to get involved. Blade: The Vampire Hunter gets recruited into The Avengers main roster. Â
Dracula turns up in his old man form, looking frail and weak, and deliberately surrenders himself to the Russian government and he is taken prisoner. (Avengers issue 014, 2019.)
And yes, Dracula conjures an electrical storm for dramatic effect during his entrance because Dracula is a freakinâ primadona! I love him. :-P Â
The Avengers want to take him back to America where they can better watch and keep him. They consider him a proverbial living weapon and donât want the Russian government to have him and potentially use him as a weapon. Dracula claims he just wants some peace and quiet and is tired of the constant fighting and death.
While captive Dracula deliberately goads Tony Stark by telling him that his father came to him begging and offered anything (including Tony, in childhood) if he could be made immortal.
It briefly looks like Dracula is trying to provoke Tony into taking him from the Russians to drag him back to the America to be held by The Avengers in Avengers Tower. However this is misdirection from the writers and not his actual plan and he does not want to leave Russia at all.  His deliberately creates a distraction.Â
He creates a prison riot by psychically influencing the prisoners but does not try to escape even though he had the perfect opportunity. He merely does this to prove to Stark that he can and that he is right where he wants to be, affirming his claim that he has surrendered himself and is tired of fighting. Â
Further note:  They have all these elaborate restraints on him. An anti-bite face mask (that still allows for speech), a chest plate thatâll stake him if he gets too frisky (First time I saw that was in Boom Comicsâ Dracula: Company of Monsters. Someoneâs stealing from someone else), heavy chains, covers on both his hands to keep him from using his claws, devices that somehow prevent him from taking bat, wolf, and mist form, and some sort of IV system to keep him semi-starved and weak / possibly drugged. But no one thought to dampen his psychic powers? The Raft (Superhuman prison) can do that but the Russian equivalent (currently being visited by Tony stark) canât?  Â
Red Widow has the cruel task of interrogating him even after he has told them many of his secrets. She rounds up all of Draculaâs vampiric previous lovers (and there are quite a lot). Â
She tells him sheâll torture and kill them slowly unless he shares everything with them. If he does share all the knowledge he has, sheâll kill them quickly. Either way they die. Â
The scene also reveals that Dracula has male and female lovers.
Marvelâs Dracula has now been confirmed as having had male and female lovers.  This is not the only bisexual or panasexual Dracula in pop culture.  The German production of the Frank Wildhorn Dracula the Musical (Dracula das Musical) gives him brides and grooms in his castle and Dario Argento has said his version of Dracula is bisexual, and Marvel has now confirmed that their version of Dracula has had male and female lovers.  Â
The first victim in the torture-interrogation is this pretty, androgynous creature.
I donât know much about this pretty elfish, semi-androgynous character.  Iâm not even entirely sure the character is male (but others have Identified him as male). In any event Dracula wept blood tears when this unnamed character was killed.  And he (the lover) was clearly willing to die for Dracula.Â
I donât know his name so I am going to call him Samuel. Â And in my mind he was the pretty castle librarian whom Dracula became infatuated with. Â There. Â Headcanon achieved. Â
Further note: Usually if you make Dracula cry, it means heâll take brutal and violent revenge. This is a universal truth with all versions of Dacula. Â Never make him cry. Â
Seriously, I want to know this guyâs story.  Dracula cries for him!  In front of his enemies, he weeps for him!  Did Dracula make him a vampire or was he already a vampire when they met? Give us this story, Marvel!  Who is he???
Later itâs revealed that Draculaâs capture was part of an elaborate scheme so that he would get dumped in Chernobyl.
But this is precisely what Dracula wanted all along.
It is in this vast, isolated, irradiated wasteland that Dracula has decided to re-establish his kingdom of the vampires.  Everything was part of his elaborate plan just to re-establish his vampiric kingdom. Â
But based on his reaction to the lovers being slaughtered, I donât think that part was quite in his plans. So again, I ask, who was that pretty male lover whose death brought Dracula to tears?
By the way, I freakinâ love this story. I just hope Marvel doesnât screw it up by doing something cliche like letting the radiation from Chernobyl mutate the vampires living there. Â
Further note: Many of the vampires in this storyline were semi-innocent and sympathetic and some of the heroes were just douches, such as seeing âheroesâ killing a coven of vampires who plead that they were peaceful and never fed on the innocent and literally said âPlease donât hurt us.â and begged for their lives. âThe good guysâ ladies and gentlemen. Â
Itâs a good story but Iâm tired of deconstruction. I like my heroes actually having compassion and mercy. You shouldnât have to make good characters asses to make the antagonists sympathetic. Marvelâs Dracula was already likable since Tomb of Dracula. Â
A few other things I didnât like. Â
1. Captain Marvel is shoehorned into the story even though it could very easily have been told without her. Itâs blatantly obvious that she was only in there to promote her new movie And it was shameless.  Sheâs crammed onto each cover so heavily that if I was just judging by the cover I wouldnât even know Dracula was in this story!
Also, for some reason Captain Marvel is now immune to Ghost Riderâs Penance Stare because of course she is! At this point I feel like asking who is left who is NOT immune to The Penance Stare?!? Morbius is immune, The Punisher is immune, and now Captain Marvel is immune. Â
This is getting as bad as Mjolnir.  A few years ago Loki (who was acting as protagonist in his own solo comic, Loki: Agent of Asgard) ended up under the "inversion spell" during the Axis event / storyline. The spell inverted his personality. Since he had been on a redemption arc this made him betray his friends, act selfishly and self-righteously.  And somehow "because he no longer felt guilt" was able to lift Mjolnir.  Now let's look at Ghost Rider's Penance Stare.  Morbius is immune to the Penance Stare because he feels constant guilt for the lives he's taken.  Frank Castle is immune to the Penance Stare because he feels no remorse for anything he's done. It would seem they are using the "Morbius reasoning" that Captain Marvel feels constant guilt. But constant guilt for what?  She (the comic book version) doesn't have as many sins as her cinematic counterpart and even then she was being manipulated by aliens who played with her mind.  Marvel keeps making too many excuses to allow the current "Flavor of the month" or "Cool kid" to do things to make them super special.  Currently by their logic if you feel no guilt you are immune to Ghost Rider's Penance Stare AND can lift Mjolnir.  That pretty much means all you need to be the best of the best in Marvel is to be a sociopath. Too many people are being allowed to lift Mjolnir and too many characters are immune to Ghost Rider's Penance Stare. Â
2.  She-Hulk now looks ridiculous. She looks like Lobo from DC comics but painted green. And she no longer answers to She-Hulk (because acknowledging sheâs female and being proud of it is somehow anti-feminist... somehow? HOW does this make sense!?!?) Going by âHulkâ just puts her in her cousinâs shadow, something that was the complete antithesis of the character and probably the opposite of what they intended with that stupid name change.
3.  Less than a year ago Marvel promised it would stop doing so many events and now while one event was going on (War of the Vampires) the banner across each cover and on the splash page promoted the upcoming War of the Realms. Itâs literally just one âbigâ event after another. The events have lost all means.  Now mere story arc titles are called âevents.â Â
4.  The cover art is very... boring. Too many comics are heroes and villains lunging at each other in mid-battle. Itâs stale and uncreative. And I, a fan of Marvelâs horror properties, can barely tell there are vampires in the story. Hell, Draculaâs a key player and heâs not on any of these covers.  Â
But for all my complaining I did love this storyline. It was fun. Dracula was cunning and manipulative. His bi / pan sexuality isnât treated like a big deal and felt natural for the character. And most of it was very well illustrated. I also like the new costume for Dracula, it looks less like a warrior drow (something I hated since 2010). and Iâm glad to see Dracula in use in Marvel comics now for something other than a mere Halloween event. And I love the ending with Dracula forming his new kingdom at the end of Avengers, issue 017 (2019). Just donât screw it up by mutating them from Chernobyl radiation. Thatâs stupid and cliche.  In general this was good though, refreshing compared to what Marvel Comics has been these last few years. Â

i wanted to talk about my process for inktober a bit, both because i fully expected not to finish and because its pretty different from the normal content of this blog. since i dont usually post text on here, itâll be under a readmore
finishing any kind of inktober was absolutely not something that i ever expected to be able to do. beyond that, i didnât expect that it would be so relatively effortless -- there was never really a day where i was rushing to finish or when i came home very late and had forgotten about it. the last day was the hardest, honestly, because between my lecture and helping a friend construct her costume and putting on my costume/makeup and my programâs halloween party i only had about 3 free hours to do it. i skipped lunch with some new friends to go home and eat something quickly and finish it.
of course, i did break some rules. the first four days were done in september, and the next 4 were done in october but earlier than when they were posted. after that i did nearly all of them the day they were posted, except for one or two when i could tell that was going to be out of the house for 14+ hours and just wouldnât have time to do it. while the idea of âdrawing every dayâ is nice and certainly possible sometimes, moreso for some people than others, its impractical at best when applied to real life (at least if you live the kind of life that i do). Â
i had a relatively long list of goals for inktober, which i think personally helped keep me on track, only because it kept the focus so narrow.
choose an inktober prompt list that is fandom-specific to work on character consistency. i tend to draw the same characters over and over but they generally dont have an extremely consistent look. i considered both borderlands and the dark crystal inktober prompt lists but both of those have complex character designs, so moomin it was.
pick a brush and a program and stick with it. i didnât buy painter 2019 until i had already drawn the first few prompts so i used painter essentials 6 the whole time because i couldnt find a brush in 19 that looked similar enough. the brush was âthick and thin pencil.â
lineart only. no bg color and no large blocks of color that i couldnt lay down with the brush size 7.0-9.0
backgrounds for at least some of the art. this dropped off towards the end of the month because my lectures started and my friends came back from their vacations, leaving me with less free time every day to develop and test out scenes before committing to the final version
do not try and make every piece the best you can. i wasnât looking to create my best work every day and it was absolutely not a goal right from the start. i wanted art i could plan and execute in 30-40 minutes a day. i wasnât trying to challenge myself artistically every day, because the act of finishing inktober was the challenge in and of itself. the only other inktober iâve posted on here was heavily character design-focused and tbh i wasnât experienced enough at that to do a whole month successfully. iâd like to work on character design more in the future, along with more animal and creature studies.
if i miss a day or purposefully decide that i didnât want to do it that day, stop and donât try to make up what didnât get done. iâve tried inktober before and usually before the end of the first week (even if i worked ahead) it became something i dread thinking about. this time, i tried to have no expectations about how far i would get or how much i would like each piece. i had a personal goal that wasnât the last prompt and every piece done after that was just a bonus. if i hit a day that i didnât want to work on inktober, i would pack up the whole thing and just stop for this year. there were some days where i really didnt want to do it (the 31st was probably the hardest day to do, like i said) but at that point it felt kind of ridiculous not to finish lol.
iâm not saying this is a good process for everyone, or even a good process in general, but its what got me through my first finished inktober and thatâs what was important to me. ive been feeling more comfortable and confident and like myself lately, especially now that iâve finished this. it makes me wonder what other things im capable of that i have so far always set off for some vague future date when i was âreadyâ to do them.Â
interestingly enough, i was playing my oldest stardew valley save (late summer, year 3) this week when i realized that i had a shed completely full of unused supplies -- unprocessed ores, cooking ingredients, 1000s of wood and stone, harvested fruit i never made into wine, the list goes on. i had all these goals for stardew. i wanted to buy the expensive endgame items, get my fourth candle, start breeding slimes, win the alien rarecrow at the casino, expand my farm and finally fill the whole greenhouse with fruit trees and premium crops, ship every item. iâd had everything i needed to do these things, or at least start really working towards them, but i wasnât using them because i thought i needed to prepare more, that one day iâd have achieved my goals because i was ready to.
i want to feel confident in myself and my skills again. the last few years have made it hard, both because things were hard and i was in dysfunctional situations and because my increasing doubts in myself made me uncertain and hesitant and that ruined opportunities that i had. im ready to do things ive been putting off and hopefully you, dear reader, will see those things on my blog in short order. Â
