I only got to play the dlc for a few hours before going on a trip (12 days with no computer RIP) but damn, fromsoft hit the nail on this one. I love how darker the tone is now, with the horror of Messmer's genocide front and center, plus the body horror of the Jars and the new Fly People. Bosses are great too, the Dancing Lion is straight up one of my fav Soulsborne fights now.

That being said I do find it amusing how it's barely been 2 days since launch and there's already ppl here complaining about lore and "character assassination." Like, my siblings in Marika, if you finished the dlc this quickly then you probably missed a lot of the story lmao

character trait i wish i didn't share with richie jeremovich is that i fully understand where he's coming from at the end of the first conversation he has with carmy like even if cooking isn't fun for carmy and even if it's literally tearing him apart it's still passion and it's still purpose and living without a strong sense of those things is so frightening and disheartening that sometimes you find yourself wishing you had something you cared enough about to work yourself to death over it. ok. anyway.

it's not your fault

been achievement hunting in village so here's some like comfort for chris bc my baby has been through it. mentions of typical resident evil trauma and death, spoilers for res5, 6, and 8. chris has mega survivor guilt. also so sorry ive been gone.

it's late, the house is dark except for small glints of moonlight seeping through the curtain covered windows. it's a cold night, the brisk cold wind bangs against the house in an almost rhythmic pattern.

chris had woken up in a cold sweat, another nightmare. he glances down to find your perfect sleeping form, the sight helps ground him back into the reality.

he moves slowly as he slips from the bed, his movements are calculated and careful as he avoids waking you. chris finds himself standing on the back porch in his pajamas and slippers with a cigarette between his lips.

his head is plagued by visions of numerous people, he can pick out piers and ethan. the guilt consumes him as his stomach drops.

chris can never get those memories to go away; the memory of jill, falling through that window accompanied by when he had finally found her again. he takes in another deep inhale of smoke, seeing the sight of an infected piers followed by the sight of ethan, falling apart as he holds rose.

he doesn't know when it happened but tears were slipping from his eyes. before he could process the tears he heard your soft voice calling out for him.

"chris?"

he throws the cigarette down, praying you don't notice his tear stained face or the way he lets out a shaky breath. you notice almost immediately, opening your arms up.

"oh baby, what's wrong?" your voice is soft, tone filled with concern. he can't help but take your hands, leading you back inside from the cold, back to a place where he can feel safe.

he collapses into your arms as tears silently slip from his eyes. he hates crying, especially in front of you. he feels weak in these rare moments where he lets all of that pent up emotion out, but something about the way your fingers draw shapes on his back distract him enough to let go.

"what's bothering you?" you whisper out to him as he begins to calm down. a heavy sigh leaves chris's lips.

"ethan... piers... everyone who died because of me," he mumbles out. your heart breaks at his words. chris doesn't say more, he hates talking about it.

your fingers come through his hair, as you move to look at him.

"none of that is your fault," you say and you can feel him tense up slightly. he doesn't believe your words, chewing the inside of his cheek as he focuses on your soft touch. you can't press the issue anymore, not now at least.

"we can talk about it more in the morning, okay?" you ask, voice so soft and sweet he can't help but nod.

the two of you curl up, his head resting on your chest. the soft beat of your heart reminding him of why he's here. the sweet rhythmic beat of the love for him lures chris into a relaxed state. your fingers massage gently at his scalp and soon snores fill your eyes.
