Th Russian military has been in a greater state of turmoil than it usually is.
A senior Russian general in command of forces in occupied southern Ukraine says he was suddenly dismissed from his post after accusing Moscow’s Defense Ministry leadership of betraying his troops by not providing sufficient support. Gen. Ivan Popov was the commander of the 58th Combined Arms Army, which has been engaged in heavy fighting in the Zaporizhzhia region. He is one of the most senior officers to have taken part in the bloody Russian campaign in Ukraine. Popov said he had raised questions about “the lack of counter-battery combat, the absence of artillery reconnaissance stations and the mass deaths and injuries of our brothers from enemy artillery,” in a voice note published on Telegram late Wednesday.
In military terms, Russia can't even cope with the basics. Gen. Popov blames Putin crony Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.
Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu “signed the order and got rid of me,” the general also said in the recording, as he accused the top Kremlin official of treason. “As many commanders of divisional regiments said today, the servicemen of the armed forces of Ukraine could not break through our army from the front, (but) our senior commander hit us from the rear, treacherously and vilely decapitating the army at the most difficult and tense moment,” Popov said.
Russian senior officers have been taking it on the chin lately.
Another Russian General Killed in Occupied Ukraine
Russian Lieutenant General Oleg Yuryevich Tsokov was reportedly killed in an overnight attack by Ukrainian forces in the city of Berdyansk. The information was confirmed on the Telegram channel of the mayor of Mariupol, Peter Andryushchenko, and then by an advisor to the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Anton Gerashchenko, on Twitter. Later Andryushchenko suggested that this had been an attack against the “Duna Hotel” which had been commandeered as accommodation for the Russian military leadership in the occupied town. According to local reports, cited by the mayor, the hotel was all but completely destroyed in spite of reports that anti-missile defenses were sited close to the building. Unconfirmed reports say the building may have been struck by a Storm Shadow missile.
Cheers to the UK for supplying Ukraine with Storm Shadow missiles! 🍻🇬🇧
Russian commander killed while jogging may have been tracked on Strava app
A Russian submarine commander shot to death while jogging on Monday may have been targeted by an assailant tracking him on a popular running app, according to Russian media. Stanislav Rzhitsky was killed earlier this week in the southern Russian city of Krasnodar by an “unknown person,” state news agency TASS reported, adding that “the motive for the crime is being investigated.” [ ... ] Russian media earlier reported that Rzhitsky’s killer may have used Strava, a widely available app used by runners and cyclists, to follow his movements.
Yes, this is yet another idiotic lapse in basic security by Russians. Rzhitsky was essentially broadcasting to the world his exact location with an exercise app.
Top Russian General Missing Since Mutiny Is ‘Currently Resting,’ Lawmaker Says
Russian General Sergei Surovikin, the deputy commander of Russia’s war in Ukraine—who is also known to have ties with Wagner chief Yevgeny Prigozhin—is “currently resting” and “not available for now,” said a lawmaker from Russia’s ruling party. The comment came in response to questions Wednesday about Surovikin’s whereabouts. Surovikin, who is known in the Russian media as “General Armageddon” due to the tactics he used in the bloody Syrian civil war, is one of several notable Russian military leaders who have not been seen in public since Wagner’s aborted mutiny last month.
Of course the place where "General Armageddon" is resting could very well be a gulag.
While regular press freedom no longer exists in Russia, there is still a rather robust exchange of information on Telegram. This news of chaos and incompetence among the top military leadership will gradually filter through much of the population – including the cannon fodder at the front.

Samples of abandoned palace architecture of Ukraine:
Tereshchenko Palace The village of Chervone, Andrushiv district, Zhytomyr region. The style of the palace is Neo-Gothic. It was built at the beginning of the 19th century at the expense of the Polish nobleman Adolf Groholsky. The estate was bought by Ukrainian industrialists and philanthropists - Tereshchenko brothers, who expanded the palace and the park. The palace began to fall into disrepair with the arrival of communist regime. After 1917 here were located a children's boarding school and vocational school. Later the building survived a fire. Nowadays, the palace of the Groholsky-Tereshchenkos belongs to the women's monastery of the Holy Nativity of Christ. In addition to the palace, the stables, the left wing and the fountain have been preserved.
Oosten-Saken Palace Kyiv region, Kyiv-Svyatoshinskyi district, between Myrotske and Nemishaeve villages. It is believed that the palace was built in the 19th century at the expense of Count Karl Saken. It was an Ancestral estate. The count's descendants had the surname Osten-Saken, which is where the conventional name of the estate comes from. In Soviet times, the palace housed a biochemical plant. After a fire broke out at the factory, the palace burned down and only the walls remained.
Dakhovsky Palace Village of Leskovo, Monastyryshche district, Cherkasy region. The style of the building is Neo-Gothic. Leskiv Palace was built at the expense of magnate Casimir Dakhovsky in the middle of the 19th century. The complex consists of a palace, outbuildings, service premises and stables. In June 2013, the palace received the status of a historical and cultural reserve of state importance.
Palace of the Muravyov-Apostles the outskirts of Khomutets village, Myrhorod district, Poltava region. The estate was built at the beginning of the 19th century by a descendant of Ukrainian hetman Danylo Apostol - diplomat Ivan Muravyov-Apostol. The palace is surrounded by considerable French park. Ivan Muravyov-Apostol left the estate and went abroad after the failure of the Decembrist uprising.
Popov estate Vasylivka town, Zaporizhzhia region. The style of the preserved buildings is Neo-Gothic. Vasyl Popov, a general of the Russian Empire, founded a settlement here at the end of the 17th century. In the 19th century, the grandson of the general, who was also named Vasyl, developed the estate and built numerous farm buildings.

SAINT INNOCENT OF MOSCOW, ENLIGHTNER OF ALASKA ANS SIBERIA (1879)
Icon written by hieroscemamonk Ephrem.
Our father among the saints Innocent of Alaska, Equal-to-the-Apostles and Enlightener of North America (1797-1879), was a Russian Orthodox priest, bishop, archbishop, and Metropolitan of Moscow and all Russia. He is known for his missionary work, scholarship, and leadership in Alaska and the Russian Far East during the 1800s. He is known for his great zeal for his work as well as his great abilities as a scholar, linguist, and administrator. He was a missionary, later a bishop and archbishop in Alaska and the Russian Far East. He learned several native languages and was the author of many of the earliest scholarly works about the natives and their languages, as well as dictionaries and religious works in these languages. He also translated parts of the Bible into several native languages.
St. Innocent, né Ivan (John) Evseyevich Popov-Veniaminov, was born on August 26, 1797, into the family of a church server in the village of Anginskoye, Verkholensk District, Irkutsk province, in Russia. His father died when John was six.
In 1807, John entered the Irkutsk Theological Seminary. In 1817 he married, and on May 18, 1817 he was ordained deacon of the Church of the Annunciation in Irkutsk. He completed his studies in 1818. He was appointed a teacher in a parish school, and on May 18, 1821 he was ordained priest to serve in the Church of the Annunciation.
At the beginning of 1823, Bishop Michael of Irkutsk received instructions to send a priest to the island of Unalaska in the Aleutian Islands of Alaska. Father John Veniaminov volunteered to go, and on May 7, 1823, he departed from Irkutsk, accompanied by his aging mother, his wife, his infant son Innocent, and his brother Stefan. After a difficult one-year journey, they arrived at Unalaska on July 29, 1824.
After John and his family built and moved into an earthen hut, he undertook the construction of a church on the island and set about studying the local languages and dialects. He trained some of his parishioners in construction techniques and with them undertook the construction of a church, which was finished the following July.
Father John's parish included the island of Unalaska and the neighboring Fox Islands and Pribilof Islands, whose inhabitants had been converted to Christianity before his arrival, but retained many of their pagan ways and customs. Father John often traveled between the islands in a canoe, battling the stormy Gulf of Alaska.
His travels over the islands greatly enhanced Father John Veniaminov's familiarity with the local dialects. In a short time he mastered six of the dialects. He devised an alphabet of Cyrillic letters for the most widespread dialect, the Unagan dialect of Aleut and, in 1828, translated the Holy Gospel of St. Matthew and other church materials into that dialect, which were eventually published in 1840 with the blessing of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church. In 1829, he journeyed to the Bering Sea coast of the Alaskan mainland and preached to the people there. In 1836, his travels even extended to the south, to the Ross Colony north of San Francisco and to the Spanish missions of northern California. At Ross Colony he conducted services at its small, wooden chapel.
In 1834, Father John was transferred to Sitka Island, to the town of Novoarkhangelsk, later called Sitka. He devoted himself the Tlingit people and studied their language and customs. His studies there produced the scholarly works Notes on the Kolushchan and Kodiak Tongues and Other Dialects of the Russo-American Territories, with a Russian-Kolushchan Glossary.
In 1838, Father John journeyed to St. Petersburg and Moscow, Russia, and Kiev, Ukraine, to report on his activities and request an expansion of the Church's activities in Russian America. While he was there, he received notice that his wife had died. He requested permission to return to Sitka. Instead, it was suggested that he take vows as a monk. Father John at first ignored these suggestions, but, on November 29, 1840, made his vows. He chose the name Innocent in honor of Bishop Innocent of Irkutsk.
On December 15, 1840, Archimandrite Innocent Veniaminov was consecrated Bishop of Kamchatka and Kuril Islands in Russia and the Aleutian Islands in Russian America. His see was located in Novoarkhangelsk, which he returned to in September 1841. He spent the next nine years in the administration of his see as well as on several long missionary journeys to its remote areas. On April 21, 1850, Bishop lnnocent was elevated to Archbishop. In 1852, the Yakut area was admitted to the Kamchatka Diocese, and in September 1853, Archbishop Innocent took up permanent residence in the town of Yakutsk. Innocent took frequent trips throughout his enlarged diocese. He devoted much energy to the translation of the scriptures and service books into the Yakut (Sakha) language.
In April 1865, Archbishop Innocent was appointed a member of the Holy Governing Synod of the Church.
On November 19, 1867, he was appointed the Metropolitan of Moscow, replacing his friend and mentor, Filaret, who had died. While there, he undertook revisions of many Church texts that contained errors, raised funds to improve the living conditions of priests and established a retirement home for priests.
Innocent died on March 31, 1879. He was buried on April 5, 1879, at Troitse-Sergiyeva Lavra.

VENERABLE HYPATIUS, MONK HEALER OF THE KIEV CAVE (14th.c.)
Saint Hypatius the Healer of the Caves, attained glory through his severe fasting and prayerful vigilance. By night he stood at prayer, slept very little, and ate only bread and water.
Saint Hypatius devoted himself entirely to the service of the sick, and received from God the gift of healing. Those sick with various illnesses often hastened to his prayerful intercession.
The memory of Saint Hypatius is celebrated also on August 28, on the Synaxis of the Saints of the Far Caves.
1 CORINTHIANS 15:47-57
47 The first man was of the earth, made of dust; the second Man is the Lord from heaven. 48 As was the man of dust, so also are those who are made of dust; and as is the heavenly Man, so also are those who are heavenly. 49 And as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly Man. 50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does corruption inherit incorruption. 51 Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed- 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. 54 So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: "Death is swallowed up in victory."55 O Death, where is your sting? O Hell, where is your victory? 56 The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
MARK 7:31-37
31 Again, departing from the region of Tyre and Sidon, He came through the midst of the region of Decapolis to the Sea of Galilee. 32 Then they brought to Him one who was deaf and had an impediment in his speech, and they begged Him to put His hand on him. 33 And He took him aside from the multitude, and put His fingers in his ears, and He spat and touched his tongue. 34 Then, looking up to heaven, He sighed, and said to him, "Ephphatha," that is, "Be opened." 35 Immediately his ears were opened, and the impediment of his tongue was loosed, and he spoke plainly. 36 Then He commanded them that they should tell no one; but the more He commanded them, the more widely they proclaimed it. 37 And they were astonished beyond measure, saying, "He has done all things well. He makes both the deaf to hear and the mute to speak."

The Russian Ministry of Defense (MoD) responded to the Ukrainian attack with an uncharacteristic degree of coherency and praised Southern Military District elements for repelling the attack and regaining lost positions. The Russian MoD published a video statement by the commander of the Russian grouping in the Zaporizhia direction, Colonel General Alexander Romanchuk, wherein Romanchuk reported that Ukrainian forces started attacking around 0200 local time June 8 and that Russian forces, particularly those of the 42nd Motorized Rifle Division, succeeded in repelling the attack. Romanchuk claimed that Ukrainian forces telegraphed the ground attack with extensive artillery preparation of the battlefield. The Russian MoD also released a statement by 58th Combined Arms Army Commander Major General Ivan Popov, who credited elements of the 58th Combined Arms Army with effectively laying mines to impede Ukrainian advances. The overall Russian response to the attack, both among various milbloggers and the Russian MoD, was notably coherent and relatively consistent with the available visual evidence, which may suggest that Russian forces were not surprised and reacted in a controlled and militarily sound manner. As ISW has previously assessed, the Russian information space reacts with a high degree of chaos and incoherence when taken by surprise by battlefield developments that do not allow the propaganda apparatus to develop a clear line. By contrast, the Russian responses to this attack suggest that Russian forces defended in the way that they had prepared to, thus giving Russian sources a rhetorical line to coalesce around.
always appreciate the degree of petty snark ISW brings to these assessments

Ivan Popov, commander of the 58th Army of the Russian armed formations, currently in Zaporizhzhia, who was removed from his position earlier today says that Ukrainian artillery and missile strikes are causing significant casualties to the occupiers holding defence.
Explaining in an audio message, Popov says he delivered a damning report about the state of Russian counter-battery fire directly to Chief of the General Staff Gerasimov which resulted in his immediate dismissal.
In a four-minute audio message, Popov talks about betrayal from the most senior military leadership, echoing the sentiment expressed by Wagner mercenaries:
"A difficult situation with the leadership emerged. It was a choice between remaining silent and afraid and saying what they wanted to hear, or calling things for what they are. In your name, in the name of all perished comrades-in-arms, I didn’t have the right to lie. Hence I named all the problems that exist today in the army regarding operations, supply. I pointed the attention to the most important tragedy of the modern war - the lack of counter-battery fire, lack of artillery reconnaissance stations, and mass casualties and injuries of our brothers from enemy artillery.
I also raised a number of other issues, expressed them to the highest levels, did it openly and very brutally. Due to this, the seniors likely felt some danger in me and instantly, in one day, put together an order to the Minister of Defence and got rid of me.
As many commanders of regiments and divisions said today, our army was not broken through the front, but our most senior commander hit us in the back, thus treacherously beheading the army in the most difficult period."

Extras
Backstory: Nadezhda Kovalchuk grew up longing for a life of extravagant spending. Nadezhda was her father's 'little princess', which means she was put first when it came to spending (any) extra money her (already poor) family got, Nadezhda wanted to learn ballet, she would get lessons, Nadezhda wanted to learn archery, she got lessons, and so on. Nadezhda eventually wanted to learn how to wrestle, and she didn't need to go far to find lessons, her father (Zlatan) used to fight bears when he was a teenager, for people's entertainment. Meeting both Vesta and Bonita, in the same part of the British wrestling circuit, the three became friends fast, during that time she also met Damocles. Nadezhda was often broke due to paying for lavish items, champagne, limos, designer clothing, and so on. Nadezhda was the perfect candidate for 'Greed', being so money-hungry (with good reason), but never truly knowing how to limit her spending. She has been with the 'Lucifarian Family' since the start of her career.
Trivia:
Nadezhda is cowardly in a Jimmy Hart way, she'll piss someone off, during a promo, and run away once she feels like she's in danger
Nadezhda is a showman (Show-woman?) because she's more show than work, meaning she works exceptionally quick matches
Nadezhda's role is as the heart (and wallet) of the group
Nadezhda is Charming, Cowardly, Greedy, Loyal, Self-Confident and Vain
Nadezhda knows how to keep herself out of harm's way
Nadezhda can keep a close group of friends together
Nadezhda can sort out differences between people quite easily
Nadezhda is very hard to plan simple matches for
Nadezhda is even harder to get to participate in tougher, more challenging matches
Nadezhda cares more for money than people deep down

Reminder. The mutiny does not make prigozhin a good guy. And this termination of major general Ivan popov also does not make popov a good guy nor a good general or even an effective powerful one.
Russian military is not failing and is not failing because it’s full of bad or incompetent leadership. Russian military is a large contingent of morally bankrupt and dysfunctional glory seeking orcs who act militant but ignore the obvious evidence of all things fabricated by themselves and then to destroy all things true or good around them.
Russians are so dysfunctional of fabricated new identity and fabricated history that they cannot do anything cohesively for long because they will discover that they had gotten too far on falsehoods.

Battleship Potemkin (Sergei Eisenstein, 1925)
Cast: Aleksandr Antonov, Vladimir Barskiy, Grigoriy Aleksandrov, Ivan Bobrov, Mikhail Gomorov, Aleksandr Levshin, Nina Poltavtseva, Konstantin Feldman, Prokhorenko, A. Glauberman. Beatrice Vitoldi. Screenplay: Nina Agadzhanova. Cinematography: Eduard Tisse, Vladimir Popov. Art direction: Vasiliy Rakhals. Film editing: Sergei Eisenstein. Music: Edmund Meisel.
A perennial on "best films in history" lists, Battleship Potemkin is certainly one of the best-crafted movies ever. No matter how hokey and manipulative it seemed, I sat enthralled through my most recent viewing as the pounding, throbbing endless crescendo of music and editing surged toward the political victory of the Potemkin over the Czar's fleet. (The music on this version was Edmund Meisel's, which was performed at the Berlin premiere in 1926.) Because of the celebrated "Odessa Steps" sequence, which is cited in every textbook on editing and montage and in every tribute to Sergei Eisenstein or documentary about propaganda, I had forgotten that the real climax of the film is its final sequence. I had also forgotten how truly epic the film feels, with the great massing of crowds before the massacre on the steps. But is it a great film? Not if you're judging a film by any standard other than the way it gets blood pumping. It lacks insight into any human emotion other than resentment and the herd instinct. It's a masterpiece of propaganda. As with other such masterpieces, such as Leni Riefensthal's Triumph of the Will (1935), it lies to us. Which is all right, as long as we know it's lying and can keep our eye on the truth.

The Dossier Commission, the body required by law to disclose who in various walks of public life worked for Bulgaria’s communist-era secret services, announced on October 18 which candidates in Bulgaria’s October 27 2024 National Assembly elections were affiliated with State Security.
The commission said that of the 4848 candidates, it checked 1793. The remaining 3055 were not checked because they are below the age threshold set in law.
It listed 41 identified as having worked for State Security.
