How do you feel about yan jojo characters using there stand to harm there darling ? Or use it to there advantage.I like to imagine some characters like jotaro, jolyne , Joseph using there stands to kidnap or threaten their darling
YES!! I LOVE THIS QUESTION!!!
I really hate it, but sort of love the idea because of the power imbalance it brings. Especially if darling isnt a stand user themselves.
I'm pretty sure darling would have a mental break because how the fuck is an invisible force dragging them up by the ankle?? Gravity?? Hello? Not to mention being HURT BY IT? Yeah ur all checked out.
Using the Joestar bloodline specifically for this was diabolical, thank you.
Jotaro would be one to use Star Platinum to intimidate his darling-- as if he himself wouldn't already be enough-- but he would never use Star to hurt them. Only if it were necessary. Afterward, he'd feel obligated to treat his darling be it tending to their wounds or gifts to make it up if they deserve it. He's a pretty closed off guy, so showing remorse face-to-face is a hard thing. Younger Jotaro would have a lot more difficulty with saying sorry. He'd say things he didn't really mean, "Then don't be a pain." Okay, he kind of meant it, but that's just his default response. Jotaro would make it up in some way or another to get rid of that cold shoulder of yours.
That's only if you're ballsy enough to even let him loom over you in dead silence for more than a few seconds.
Older Jotaro using his stand to hurt his darling is reserved for worst case scenarios only as well. He has more resources and has come a long way since his teenage years. He doesn't expect for his darling to magically get comfortable around him instantly or even in several months following the revelation of his yandere tendencies. He finds that using violence to get ones way doesn't really get what people want in the end, so its useless to him. It only applies if his his darling is actively running or trying to kill him.
Something he'd do in general with Star to intimidate his darling is scare tactics. Jotaro is pretty straightforward and tells it how it is, but he isn't above telling a few lies to get you on his side. He sees no point in hurting himself or you for some brownie points, so he does the obvious. Break shit around you. Though, not in some fit or tantrum. Rather, just to showcase the control he has in each situation. It seems to be way easier to crack a table in half, leaving concern for splinters around you two, (not that he cares much), and have you willingly be smart than grabbing you by the arm and dragging you away kicking and screaming. So damn annoying. It'd stress him out, and again, he hates screaming.
Jotaro would 100% use the help of Star to kidnap his darling. He utilizes Star well and gets the job DONE. Not to mention having the Speedwagon Foundation backing him up as well.
Old Joseph would use Hermit Purple occasionally. Assuming he had a falling out with Suzie, he wants to appear as best as he can for his darling. He'd be a gentleman. Well, as gentlemanly as an eccentric elder who's main focus is breaking and talking to screens can get. Joseph wouldn't use Hermit Purple to teach his darling a lesson or scare them at all. The only times he'd feel inclined to whip his stand out is to restrain his darling if they decide to attempt escaping, or to... do what old people do. Yeah.... But anyway, those are the only two most likely scenarios that come to mind if he were to ever use ol' H.P on his darling. Joseph would rather focus on wooing and winning over his darling rather than forcing them into submission all the time.
I do want to be like, "He would put pedal to the metal," or, "A little elbow grease does the trick," but honestly, that belongs to Young Joseph. Same guy basically, just more unhinged and less wise. Young Joseph would intentionally push his darling, but would suffer the unintentional consequences. He just wants some luv 💔 "Oh no! I made my darling cry because I kept dragging them away from the people they love and continuously pushed their boundaries! I tried to do everything right, how could this happen?" WHY ARE YOU DENSE SIR. GEEZ LA WHEEZ.
Jolyne would use Stone Free to mess with the stuff in her darling's life so they come running to her instead of scaring them into submission. She's a romantic at heart, but her darling doesn't make it easier by pushing her away. In the usual prison setting, she'd whisk away your stuff so you have to come asking if she has any commissary to spare. Other times, she's petty enough to mess with others in front of you if she feels threatened by them. Although, she'd either make sure to be low-key about it, or brush it off if you really have an issue with it, "So what? It's not like they're our friend right? This ain't a daycare or whatever. And besides, its not even a big deal. Don't worry about it." Gets sort of defensive, but always backs her "claims" up in some way. A bit foolish, but quick thinking.
She tries to tone it down usually due to there being potential hundreds of stand users that could get back at her for something stupid she did. If her darling ever caught on to her antics, (probably because the crazy shit always gotta happen around her), she'd deny it HARDCORE at first, but would feel bad eventually and confess because what's a relationship without communication and trust? She'd never want to lie and snowball that into something she can't control anymore. Jolyne might get emotional, but her drive outweighs the doubt in her. She'd make it up to you in any way she can, and with her friends, she can make prison life a whole lot easier or harder. Darling's choice.

𝕾er Erryk quickly concluded that it wasn't as easy to wash a cat as he had previously assumed.
"Quick! He's going to flee!" Susannah cried out, her hair a mess and her dress soaked. She ran around the chamber, nearly slipping on the water that had spilled on the floor in an attempt to catch Daemon.
The cat screeched in outrage as Ser Erryk ultimately caught him, his paws flailing around as he tried to scratch the knight, who dismissed the sting in his arms. Maedora hurriedly walked up to him, towel in hand, to dry the poor creature. The linen engulfed the small cat and once Daemon seemed assured that they wouldn't douse him in water again he calmed down in the knight's arms.
"Is he not adorable?" The princess cooed, gently scratching her pet behind its ear as it purred against Ser Erryk's chest. "Yes, princess," the man agreed, unmoving in his stance so as not to bother the cat.
"What a freak," Susannah muttered under her breath, glaring at the cat that was snuggled up in soft and warm fabric while she was stuck in her drenched dress. Maedora turned around to see the damage in the bathing chamber and almost winced at the sight before dismissing her handmaiden to change into something warmer. "Go change Suzy," the princess ordered softly, her friend nodding in gratitude before bowing scarcely.
"Thank you, princess. I shall send servants to clean this mess," she declared before leaving the knight and princess alone. Maedora looked up from Daemon and noticed the cuts on Ser Erryk's arms. Her fingers moved up to cradle his hands as the man watched her in wonder.
"You are injured," she noted, her tone rather clouded and the knight didn't know what to say except for a superficial 'yes, Princess'. She hummed taking Daemon from his grasp and began her trek back toward her bedchamber. Ser Erryk dutifully followed her like a shadow, the rattle of his armor filling the silence.
"Come in Ser Erryk," Maedora carelessly left the door to her personal chambers open, not waiting for the knight as she placed the bundle that held Daemon on top of her bed. The man wavered for a moment as it was highly inappropriate for him to be alone with the princess, especially in her room but didn't object as he shut the door behind him before stationing himself in front of it as he waited for another command. Maedora walked over to her vanity table, her feet so light against the floor, that it almost seemed as if she was floating around. She dug through the drawers and once she was prosperous in her search she veered around to face the knight who had not moved an inch. "Come, sit," she told him, as she sat down on the velvet couch which was situated beneath an extensive window. Upon the palpable hesitation, Maedora looked up with amusement shimmering in her lilac eyes, "I do not bite."
A ghost of a smile appeared on the knight's face as he sat down, making sure to maintain a fair distance, but the princess paid it no mind as she shuffled closer. Her delicate hands reached for his bruised arms before she laid them across her lap. Ser Erryk was certain that if someone were to catch sight of them, he would be stripped of his titles and honor, but he couldn't find it in himself to care as he basked in Maedora's attention and soft touch. She took a moist cloth and carefully pressed it against the numerous scratches to get rid of the blood, while her other hand comfortingly caressed the back of his hand in a mindless manner.
"Do you hear the birds?" The inquiry took Ser Erryk by surprise as he was roused from his stupor. He glanced at the girl beside him as she carefully tended to his wounds before taking a moment to listen. He strained to hear the faint singing of the birds and wondered for an instant how Maedora had managed to pick up on it so easily before nodding, choosing to remain silent.
"I find their songs rather beautiful. Mother always said that I am sensitive to beautiful things," her eyes flickered to meet his gray ones before looking back down to his hands. She gave no further explanation, leaving the knight to figure out if there was some hidden context behind it or whether it was a fleeting thought that she had wished to share. Nonetheless, Ser Erryk enjoyed her way of speaking and selected not to dwell on any additional possibilities.
"You should make sure to change the dressings before you go to sleep," Maedora proclaimed already standing as she was suddenly drawn to the vase filled with all various kinds of flowers that stood on top of her drawer. "Thank you, Princess," the knight thanked her, his sentences short but heartfelt, which she appeared to appreciate.
"I am aware that my father has sent you to look after me, but I am to remain in my chambers for the rest of the day so you are dismissed," the smile she sent him made his cheeks redden, and if she noticed, she didn't say anything of it. He solemnly nodded and stood from his seat, before he could depart her private chambers he felt her gentle touch stop him. As he turned around, he caught sight of the purple flowers that were in her grasp and said nothing as she handed them to him.
"It is called lavender, it's known for its healing properties," she clarified, almost shy as she had frequently heard other Ladies gossip and giggle about her odd infatuation with flowers. Ser Erryk's expression softened, his eyes conveying a thousand words his mouth could not and that was all the princess had needed to understand what he had wished to say. His rough fingers grazed the stems as he made an effort to carefully accept the flowers so as not to harm them. The contrast of the delicateness of the flower and the rigor of his hand was particularly prominent, but it was rather endearing to Maedora.
The two shared a last smile, wishful words remaining unspoken as he took his leave with the flowers in hand. He didn't bother to pay anyone any mind as he quickly stopped by his own, much smaller quarters to gently put the flowers in a bowl with water. He made sure not to drown them before returning to his post with a much gentler grace than before, which was the effect that the eldest princess seem to have on most people.
Dinner was certainly eventful that evening as Maedora decided to bring her new pet along much to Rhaenyra's delight.
Her mother grimaced at the sight of the cat that was seated on her daughter's lap before sending her husband a look, but the king seemed delighted by the creature.
"Where have you found the cat, dear?" Viserys questioned, curious about his daughter's escapades. It was known to most that the king was infatuated with his eldest and her odd interests which were deemed inappropriate by some, but he always vigorously defended her.
"In a tree," she smiled, playing with the soup in front of her. Her family settled on leaving the question of how she got it out of there unanswered and quickly moved on.
"Does it have a name?" Rhaenyra cooed, already mesmerized by the sweet cat that preened under her affections. "Daemon," her father choked on his soup, servants quickly rushing over to aid him while her mother chuckled. "What a particular choice, sweet girl," Aemma smiled and Rhaenyra took a minute to purely appreciate the moment where the people dearest to her were enjoying themselves without a worry.
The conversation turned towards Rhaenyra and her dragon, Syrax whom she had taken on a flight earlier that day which then turned to her notifying them about an important decision she had taken.
"Sister, I have thought about what you said earlier this morning," Maedora turned to her, curiosity laced in her expression as she gave her full attention to her younger sister who seemed negligibly unsure. Their parents were surprised that Rhaenyra had come to a decision so early on, but were both pleased as they had thought that she would only stretch it on for much longer.
"I believe the way to determine who would be best fitted for you is to organize a ball. We will be able to see all of your potential suitors and select the most promising one," Viserys thought about it for a moment before nodding in agreement, already planning which houses he would need to notify of the event.
"That is a wonderful idea. Thank you Rhaenyra," the younger princess beamed at her sister, proud to have pleased her, and started clarifying further details. "When is this ball going to transpire?" Aemma wondered as she worried about the safety of it all, but she too knew it was time her eldest got married.
"Perhaps after the tourney on my nameday ?" Maedora suggested as she didn't mind the prospect of getting married as long as it didn't interfere with her own interests. "So soon already?" Aemma frowned, not wishing to see her sweet daughter truly become a woman of society, but Viserys quickly soothed her. "It is the perfect timing! There shall be plenty of honorable suitors present for Maedora's nameday that she won't have to go on a marriage tour. It is utmost convenient!" The king enthusiastically spoke.
"Very well then," Aemma's spirit slightly dampened, but she managed to send a weak smile at Maedora who didn't seem displeased with it all.
"Great!" Rhaenyra exclaimed before wrapping an arm around her sister's shoulder, "I will be there with you, and we shall find the perfect husband for you." The two princesses leaned into one another's touch and grinned in contentment. The remaining duration of dinner was spent conversing about Maedora's nameday.
Once she was excused from the table, she snuck away from her handmaiden with Daemon in her arms to her favourite clearing. Night had graced the sky once again, and moonlight lit the way for the princess as she journeyed the familiar path. When she reached the clearing, she let go of her cat to roam around as she approached a dim figure that was lying in the grass, right underneath the angelic moon. A large smile spread across her face once she realized who it was before impatiently running over. The figure who was lying down quickly sat up to see who had arrived, but only managed to let out a huff as the princess jumped into his arms.
"Gwayne!" She cheerfully exclaimed, her arms tightening around his neck as she breathed in his soothing fragrance. The boy's arms wrapped around her waist as a laugh left him, falling back into the grass as the two continued to hug each other. His auburn hair tickled her cheek, but she paid no mind to it as their bodies intermingled, familiar with every part of one another.
"I have missed you, Dora," he nearly whispered, and the girl merely tightened her arms around him. His hand stroked the back of her head that was hidden in the crook of his neck as she nearly laid on top of him while his other hand rested on her waist. The cold night air nipped at their skin, but they didn’t care for it as their bodies kept each other warm. Maedora pulled her face away from his neck to face him for the first time and examined his features with a smile.
"You look pretty," she mumbled as the boy smiled widely, placing a kiss on her cheek. A giggle left her lips as she weaved her hand through his hair, playing with the lengthy strands. "No prettier than you. You are simply ravishing dear," Gwayne had almost forgotten the fervent delight he felt around the princess but was elated to be reminded of it as warmth filled his heart once more.
Blush spread across her cheeks, and the boy took satisfaction in the sight of it as he softly caressed the pink-tinted skin on her face. "You cannot leave me again," Maedora murmured as she engulfed him again, reveling in his affections. "I wouldn't dream of it," the promise appeased the princess as silence filled the clearing. Their breathing was intermingled, and their heartbeats thrummed loudly in their chests.
"I got you a present," Gwayne abruptly proclaimed, and Maedora quickly sat up, her legs straddling her friend beneath her. She absolutely adored presents, and he knew that as he watched her with loving eyes. "What is it?" Her novelty couldn't be contained as she intertwined her fingers with his while he mischievously grinned.
"It is a surprise," the princess let out an impatient whine. Gwayne tugged her back into him, wrapping his defined arms firmly around her.
"I had your maid place it in your chambers but let us remain here for a little while more for I have truly missed you more than you could imagine," Maedora softened at his words as she, too, recalled the days she spent wishfully thinking of him."I love your hugs the most," her words spread warmth into him, and he pressed a kiss against the side of her head as a reply.
Hours were spent in the clearing, Maedora having fallen asleep long ago, while Gwayne made sure to capture everything about her so he wouldn't dare to forget this precious moment. It was only when the sun started ascending and birds roused that Gwayne decided to awaken the princess gently. The sight of her friend whom she hadn't seen in almost a year made her overlook all of her obligations for a moment before he urged her to get back to bed. Gwayne assisted her up and let her lean on him as she tried to wake up entirely.
"My cat," she mumbled, and the boy quickly spotted the white creature dozing off underneath the tree. He led her over to Daemon, and she leaned down to pick him up carefully, but the cat didn't seem to mind as it continued its sleep. Gwayne proceeded to guide the princess back to her bedchamber quietly and sent seething looks at maids and knights who were being too clamorous for his sweet Dora, who had yet to wake up properly.
He pushed the door to her chamber open and ushered her over to her bed before helping her lay down. As Maedora got more comfortable, he made sure she was covered by the duvet before kneeling in front of her bed. The princess opened her eyes, a soft but fatigued smile gracing her features as she peeked at him, which made him smile in turn.
"Sleep, I will tell you all about my adventures in Old town once you awaken," Gwayne vowed, placing a prolonged kiss on her forehead. "Gwayne?" The boy hummed as he played with her hair, admiring her beauty for as long as possible. "Meet me in the trees," the words caused the boy to chuckle before nodding. He pressed one final kiss against her head, his heart yearning to stay with her, but he resisted the heartache as he quietly walked away.
Later that morning, Maedora would awaken with the pleasant surprise of a present sitting prettily on her desk. The princess grinned, shoving the covers aside as she hopped out of bed to see what her friend had gotten her. She took a seat on the desk chair and curiously opened the package, which unveiled two books. One was considerably smaller with a faded pink cover and golden engravings that said 'Fairies of the flowers and trees'. The sight made her smile as she recollected sending him a letter about silly stories that described all sorts of mythical beings, but she hadn't presumed that he'd ever even remember it.
The second book was an opaque green color and appeared extensively ancient. The words on the lid were written in High Valyrian which stunned the princess as she read it 'Flowers of High Valyria'. An excited sentiment surged through her to read it, but she put the books aside as she caught sight of a remote bouquet which was fastened together by a string. The shade of the white carnations matched her hair, and Maedora brought them closer to her face to catch a breath of the scent.
Gwayne Hightower certainly knew how to impress Maedora Targaryen.

Hai, mutuals have my actin up getting obsessive brain over Pillar Fam Au again and their all over my brain like ANTS
So I wanted to redo the art on the pillar fam playlist and doodle some stuff for my fav songs on the playlist
just thinking about them thinking about them thinking about them and running around and biting
every few weeks I just remember this AU is everything to me good lurd
[Commission Prices][Etsy][Buy me a Kofi]
also wanted to talk about some thoughts on the songs of the playlist just whatever, under the cut
Where Evil Grows by The Poppy Family: this one I drew for, but I heavily think of it over Joseph and Wamuu's first meeting where despite the rough first meeting, theres that spark of interest in on another. Despite unexplainable need to get close to one another, especially Joseph to Wham.
Blood in the Wine by AURORA: mostly a song I put on there for Wham, its a Wham heavy song and makes me think generally of pillar fam but also of Wham and his relationship to his pillar men family and kars. His Loyalty and devotion to the man who is his father, but ultimately having these different goals and feelings.
Electric Love by BORNS: Honestly mostly just a fun feel good song I felt had some good vibes to Pillar fam, love a good lightning motif for Joseph.
Kiss her you fool by Kids that Fly: First kiss scene, 1000% Joseph with a million thoughts about how he's trying to get out of dying, or even killing but also quickly realizing he might just be in love with this powerful warrior and that Wham just might like him back, and to make a leap of fate with a kiss.
Talk to Much COIN: Another song that fit the bill for Pillar Fam especially of a Joseph angle for suuuure
High on Humans by Oh Wonder: I think this is pretty straight forward for the wham angle of this relationship, especially when Suzi starts being in the mix and he's realizing he's soft for two humans who he should be seeing as a threat to Kar's mission. but instead his brain if fuzzy and soft around them
The Sex has Made me Stupid by Robots in Disguise: also pretty straight forward, they were going at it like rabbits because i take Wham for a guy who fucks his enemies as an equal partner for him, fighting it like gay sex to him but so is gay sex lol. Also this song is such so extremely british its just a bit of a too fitting not to include
Dirty imbecile by The Happy Fits: Kinda vauge take on Joseph, i get big joseph vibes in this song and fitting to my minds touchings of his character and relationship to family and lack there of
Step With me by MIKA: its the vibes, the specific lyrics just feel so right, the slow set by set calculations of getting close to someone like Wham in their specific situation. Both in trying to work every angle to get everyone out alive, but also dealing with big feelings for a big man who may kill him. One step at a time, just a few steps away from you. I especially take this song overlay to the idea of the height of Pillar Fam when the month is almost up and joseph's one like asking of truce between him and wham, but wham choosing to stay to his word and to kars and leaving Joseph, but stubborn Joseph not giving up quite yet.
Necessary Evil by Unknown Mortal Orchestra: i think this in a way feels a lot like similar lyrical vibes to Where Evil Grows. But bit on the horny side lol, two crazy kids defying the odds, dealing with how they feel, messy messy feelings while they nearly kill each other in a gladiatorial fight on chariots around a roaring fire.
I wont hurt you by the West Coast Pop Art Experience: THIS SONG OUHGH this is one of the big ones on the playlist to me, its soo ouch. Song that 100% in my head links to the end of the Chariot fight. Joseph and Wham have dealt out all their cards, every trick in the book to live or win. All but their final trump card, all or nothing, put it all on the line and die winning. Wham lost of sight, arms and burning a hole into his own chest. Joseph with caesars headband and the lighter fluid... But he can't do it. instead opting to drop his weapons and his guards, i wont hurt you, Yelled over the intense slicing winds as they grow nearer. Joseph's pleading one more time for Wham to stop to not kill Joseph, but more importantly, himself. That Kars wouldnt want this, Suzi wouldnt want this and Joseph wouldnt want this. He would rather lay down and accept defeat and death than be the one to remove Wham from the world. its then, Wham in his biggest moment of vulnerability stops, words reaching him. Falling to his knees and embracing Joseph in a messy bloody puddle in all the heavy silence under the blazing fire. I wont hurt you.
m'Lover by Kishi Bashi: themes of unlikely lovers? well dont mind if i do for my pillar fam playlist. Picking up right after the last one, things are finally looking right, defying the destiny that they were meant to hurt and kill each other in that pit that night instead promising themselves to each other. two loves in the night finding each other in the most unlikely way
Affection Taku Iwasaki: Its a jojo song, and it makes me sad weepy, its soft its perfect for this vibe.
Bizzare Love Triangle by New Order: I think mostly on here for the general title and 'love triangle' idea. Suzi and her two boys, their Bizzare Love Triangle
From Me, the Moon by Lav and Dark Moon by Bonnie Guitar: putting these together as their both meant to be for the same idea, Wham watching his human partners grow old. His family even with his pillar man genetics, growing older. The idea they will one day leave him behind. This reality will obviously never come as they world ends in p6. But its a lingering idea, a soft sad, but approachable topic to think about for Wham. Couldn't not include it in a playlist meant to encapsulate them and their life start to finish. Wham will be sad, but happily live out his humans long lives. As long as they'll have him.
Affection Taku Iwasaki: it was the final track of P2, just like Affection, sweet and good, how could i not make it the final track on this playlist.

T.I.P. - Pt.3
Team Phantom was starting where Greta had escaped. She had friends to free and while the only reason she’d been moved there was to recover after excess “experimentation” had left her too weak to be useful, she didn’t go unobserved. The suspiciously large medical wing of the orphanage had its purposes. She and the others weren’t without pain and this first mission was personal.
Half of the orphanage had been blown up and all of the residents were missing. No camera footage survived. All Impulse saw was a floating guy, who their missing Ms. Suzie H. called Phantom, follow her through a glowing green portal before the last and largest explosion went off. They were too busy with the rubble to appreciate how clean an operation it had been.
All ghosts were returned to the Realms and all Meta kids were systematically sorted through. Asked if they did have family, wanted an adjustable power dampening bracelet that Tucker and Danny had formulated together, and/or moved to homes in a network Sam and Val had been organizing for years now. Started after Ellie had gone off on her own when there was nowhere for her to stay. All were left with tools to support their unique situations and prevent trouble from finding them again. Maybe ironically, the Kents were temporary fosters in the network. Sam and Tucker helped fund a legitimate troubled Meta children's charity. The orphanage's records didn’t survive the operation so they couldn’t be “reclaimed” or easily marked. The Young Justice team got here just in time to hear Phantom’s name and take over disaster relief. As Team Phantom had hoped.
Masterpost
AN: From a wiki I was reading, before YJ knew Greta/Secrets they thought her name was Suzie and/or Suzie is an alias of hers. I thought that it would fit for them not to have her real name even when they thought they did. Some government nonsense and funny for me in my head. Might lead to confusion later.

REALIZATION - YECHAN °
~~~~~~~~♡
You were asleep, fast asleep, your head placed onto yechans shoulder, with your arms wrapped around his. In normal situations, he would have laughed it off, taking a picture to tease you later.
But not now.
His cheeks redder than his hair as he froze, his heart pounding out of his chest as your soft snores echo the room.
What should he do? Should he wake you up? Should he leave you there? His mind was spinning, his stomach was twisting. It was too much.
His eyes lingered onto your sleeping figure, landing at your face as he watches you sleep. Was this creepy? He thought to himself, studying your features closely. You looked absolutely adorable, from your swollen cheeks to puffy lips. It was too much.
He shouldn't think of you like this. You were his best friend and there was no way you saw him the same way he saw you. Heck, you'd probably laugh at him or feel weirded out and your friendship would be ruined.
That's why he kept his feelings at bay, burying them deep inside him. But not now, it was too much.
His mind tried to convince his heart it was a bad idea, but his heart was too stubborn; his hand was already cupping your cheek. Your skin was soft, like mochi as a smile slowly forms on your face. He gasps. Could you feel the same?
He shakes his head, a little too hard as he accidentally shakes you, a small 'hm' leaving your lips. "Sorry.." he mutters, before grabbing your shoulder slowly, shaking it softly.
"Toot toot? Wake up, the movies over," he shakes you again, your eyes fluttering opening softly. You yawn, another hum leaving your lips as you stretch, your focus on the tv.
"Oh shoot.. did I fall asleep?" You wake up fully, the end credits rolling. "Yeah." He answers simply, his back resting again the couch as a hand runs through his hair.
"Sorry," you smile sheepishly, another yawn leaving your lips as yechan shakes his head. "Its nothing, the movie was boring anyway."
"Oh?" You respond, yechan humming in response as he glances at your direction. So cute. He smiles to himself, playing around with his fingers as he looks down.
Grrr, your stomach growls as you and yechan share a look, before bursting with laughter. "Are you hungry?" Yechan loud laugh echoes the room as you look down, feeling a bit embarrassed.
"I told you you should of ate something~" Yechan shakes his head before standing up, brushing off his pants before offering you his hand. "Come on toot toot."
Toot toot. It was a silly nickname and something he used to make fun of you. You hated it at first but soon grown fond of it, your heart skipping a beat.
You hand lands on his, the grip tightening as he helps you to your feet.
~~~~♡
"I have some left over fries and-"
"DINO NUGGIES!!" You shout, cutting him off as you hurriedly stuff one into your mouth. In normal situations, he would have laughed at you before following your actions.
But not now.
Nope, he was frozen again, his heart pounding again as he finds your messy figure.. cute.
Should he be saying that? He ponders, sitting down on a chair as his chin falls onto his hand.
His hyungs always teased the two of you, now to think about it, saying how cute of a couple you would be and how dumb you were for not noticing each others feelings. Was that true? Was he just blindly in love, so in love that he didnt notice your feelings?
"Yechan..?" Your voice rings in his ear, sending him out of his trance as he realizes what he was doing. He pulls his hand away from your cheek, wiping the ketchup on a napkin. "You.. had something right there.." he mumbles, looking down as his cheeks reddened.
"Oh.." you nod your head slowly as yechan glances at you, watching your cheeks turn to a light shade of pink. Did he have an effect on you? Like how he does for you?
The dining room was filled with a awkward silence, you both rethinking about what happened earlier. "So uh.." you trail off, biting into a fry as you try to break the silence.
You had started talking again but for yechans sake, he couldnt focus. No matter how hard he tried, he couldnt focus. He was too busy staring at you again. Your words sounded like soft whispers, whispers you could barely hear. He wanted to pay attention, to add to the conversation but he couldnt. You were too beautiful
He loved how your eyes sparkled as you talked, or how you always fidgeted with your fingers, or how-
"YECHAN!!" You shout, feeling a bit angry he was zoning out again. You throw a fry at him, watching the ketchup land on his face as the fry bounced off, landing on the floor.
"Did you just.. throw a fry at me?" Yechan gasps, a hand on his chest as you smirk, not saying anything.
After throwing another fry at him, yechan nods before suddenly shouting "FOOD FIGHT!!"
~~~~♡
"I dont get why your so mad toot toot, you started it," yechan says calmly, finishing cleaning himself off.
"You weren't listening!!" You frown angrily, wiping the remainder ketchup off your face. Yechan shrugs, stuffing his hands into his pockets as he walks to his room.
"Yah!!" You shout, running after him. "Calm down I'm right here," he rolls his eyes playfully, sitting on the edge of his bed.
Your arms cross as you push him back against the bed, his giggles filling the room. "Y-yah yechan what are you doing?!" You shout as he pulls your arm, bring you onto the bed and pulling the blanket over the two of you.
"Where are you?" Yechan whispers as the room is suddenly pitch black. "Right here.." you whisper back, your hand finding his and squeezing it.
You feel yechan touching your hair, accidentally pulling it. "Ouch!"
"Looks like I've found your hair," yechan giggles, his hot breath fanning your ear. You heart skips a beat, in fact, many beats.
"Is this your face?" Yechan asks, cupping your cheeks and pulling you closer. "Yeah.." you answer shyly, feeling his breath fan on yours.
"Oh." His fingers trace your nose, then your eyes as your breath hitches, your face getting red. "Your skin is so soft.." he mutters, kissing your forehead.
It was something he did often, something you paid no attention too, but you were definitely paying attention now. You could stop the smile that was forming on your face, a little giggle leaving your lips.
You can feels yechan smile on your forehead, his hands finding yours as he places little kisses on your face. "What are you doing?" You giggle, your smile getting bigger.
"Toot toot.." he whispers, you could feel him getting closer to your face. "Hm?" You hum, feeling your hand being lifted and placed on his chest. His heart was pounding.
"Do you.." his voice trailing off, shaking softly as you feel his head shake.
"What is it? You know you can tell me anything right?" Your voice laced with worry as you hands find his face, lifting it up at eye level.
"Its nothing.."
"No." You frown. "Tell me." You demand, your hand lightly stroking his cheek.
"You wouldnt like it.."
"How to you know that? If you can't tell me, then show me."
Your heart stops as you feel something on your lips. It was yechans lips. It was hesitant and nervous, but softer than a marshmallow, sweeter than candy, too good to be true.
His lips fit your perfectly, like they were meant to be there as he moves slowly, hands wrapping around your waist as he pulls you closer. Goosebumps swarm your body as your head tilts and you grab his neck, closing your eyes to savor the moment.
The kiss lasted a little longer than you hoped, breaking the kiss to catch your breaths. "Wow.." yechan whispers, pulling the blanket off of the two of you.
His face was as red as yours, if not redder as he looks down, a smile forming.
"Toot toot I.. I like you a lot.. a little too much really.." yechan grabs your hand, grinning softly as he looks at you, his eyes forming into hearts.
"Do you.. like me..?" He smiles nervously, scratching his head.
"No." You answer, making yechans eyes widen. "H-huh o-oh u-um I-"
"I love you."
A/n: wooo that was a long one. I can defo say the kissing scene was MUCH better than all my other ones (thank you pinterest)
And thank you @xikerstarr (insta, tumblr AND wattpad) for requesting. Kinda regret telling you I was writing 'yOuR bOyFrIeNd' and will defo not tell you anymore 😘😊 (stop pestering me)
You hummed a laugh at Suzie's story. "Can't believe some people."
"I know, right?"
You released a long sigh. "Any emails?"
She looked at her screen. "All answered. Anything from the mayor while he's away at a meeting?"
You checked your work phone. "Nothing at all. Only cute texts from Levi."
She smiled. "Must be nice being married to the sheriff. He's so handsome and sweet. You reached a year yet?"
You shook your head. "Not yet, we will in a few months. We're planning to go away for it, so he's planning on training up his cadets so they'll be okay without him."
"It'll be so romantic!"
You let out a long sigh. "Right? I just want to run off with him now for a nice camping trip."
Suzie giggled. "I can only imagine what he'll get up to with you." She sat up when she saw a man approaching the doors. "Oh...oh no, that's Stu."
You looked out. "Crap, Erwin isn't here. Do we have security down here?"
"We've never needed one. Stay back here with me, we'll be protected with the card reading door and the screens."
Stu stormed through the front door, grabbed the stand with the leaflets on and threw it against the room and screamed. "FUCK YOU BITCHES! YOU DON'T GIVE A SHIT ABOUT ME! FUCK YOU ALL! YOU JUST HURT ME! ALL YOU DO IS HURT ME!"
Suzie stood up and backed up. "Back up."
Stu charged to the glass window and slammed his fist against it and spat at the glass. "I FUCKING SEE YOU IN THERE! YOU DON'T GIVE A SHIT ABOUT ME! COME OUT HERE NOW! I FUCKING DARE YOU BITCHES TO COME OUT HERE!
You moved closer to the glass. "Stu? Stu, do you have a meeting booked today? You normally see Mr Lee, right?"
"I DON'T WANT TO SEE THAT ASSHOLE! HE DOESN'T GIVE A SHIT ABOUT ME! NONE OF YOU DO! I HAVE TOLD HIM WHAT THE PROBLEM IS! HE DOES JACKSHIT!"
You sighed. "Stu, can you tell me why you're angry? Maybe I can help you out."
"I DON'T WANT TO TALK TO YOU! YOU'RE THE DUMB BITCH WHORE YOU FUCKS THE SHERIFF! YOU TAINTED THE SHERIFF."
"Stu, I can't help you if you shout like this. You want help, right?" You sighed as he nodded. "All right, then talk to me."
He leaned on the counter. "I have come in time and time again about my situation." His voice croaked from screaming so much. "Mr Lee moved me out of the town into a new home because I needed it. I needed to be close to certain things. My home isn't good enough. I don't like it. It doesn't have what I need. It's noisy in the city, I don't have two bathrooms, its wooden floors and not carpet. I demand a better home. I am not leaving here until you give me a better home."
You sighed. "Stu, us here at reception can't give you that. You need to talk to Mr Lee. You have his number, give him a call and he'll talk to you about it."
"I don't want Mr Lee."
"Mr Lee is the only person you can talk to. He is the only person we have here in the department you need."
He pointed at you. "SEE!? YOU DON'T GIVE A SHIT ABOUT ME! FUCK YOU BOTH! GET OUT HERE NOW! FUCK YOU! FUCK YOU BOTH! GET OUT HERE NOW!"
You fiddled with your phone as he started kicking things and throwing them around as he screamed. You tapped on Levi's name and called him up right away. "Levi?"
Levi called your name. "Hey darlin', everything okay? Who's screaming and shouting?"
"Stu is here. He's making threats and he won't leave. He's throwing things around and we can't leave the town hall."
"Fuck, he shouldn't be in this town! He's moved to the city. I'm racing there now, okay darlin'? You stay behind the glass with Suzie. I'll come for you."
"Thank you, Levi." You ended the call and stayed by Suzie's side. "Levi's coming."
Suzie watched Stu scream and throw things around. "I've never seen him this bad before and it's all over little things."
You hummed. "Mr Lee helps people move out of Town and is a kind guy to do it all. He is way too demanding." You gasped when you saw Levi's sheriff vehicle skid to a speedy stop. "Levi."
Levi got out and plopped his hat on his head before leaping up the steps. He jogged to the doors and opened them wide as Mike followed behind. "Stu, you all right lad?"
Stu turned to Levi. "Sheriff! About fucking time I met someone with sense! These bitches don't give a shit about me! THEY DON'T! THEY HAVE TO COME OUT HERE RIGHT NOW! I DEMAND IT. ALL THEY DO IS HURT ME!"
Levi moved closer as he fought his rage. "Stu, no one is hurting you right now. Look at your hands and arms, are they hurt?"
Stu looked down. "N-No, but the hurt is elsewhere!"
"Look at your reflection in the glass, is there blood?"
"No."
"Do you look hurt?"
"No."
Levi sighed. "So, you've not been hurt."
He gulped hard. "But those-."
Levi put his hand up. "Please don't call them names, okay? You wouldn't like it if they called you names, would you?"
"N-No."
Levi put his hands on his belt with his cuffs and weapons. "These ladies have nothing to do with your situation. Do you really think screaming at them will get you anywhere?"
"They don't care about me!"
"If they didn't care, they wouldn't have talked to you. They wouldn't have tried."
He looked over at you and Suzie. "Look at how scared they are."
Stu studied you and Suzie. "I...I..."
"I know my wife as well. My wife is incredibly kind, caring and helpful. I know she would have taken care of you." He sighed and looked at the mess. "Look at this mess. Why don't you work with Mike and clean this place up for the nice ladies, yeah?"
Stu whined. "Yes, sheriff."
"Good lad. Start cleaning while I talk to the lovely ladies."
Mike walked to the cleaning cupboard and got a few things out. "Here, Stu. Get to work."
You hurried over to the secure door and opened it for Levi. "In you come."
Levi winked at you before walking in. "Thank you kindly." He sighed when you closed the door and waited for the lock to click. He took his hat off and smiled. "So, how did this start?"
Suzie gave Levi the rundown as he made notes in his notepad. You told him your side of the story, but you were spending most of the time admiring your husband. He looked incredible in his tan sheriff uniform with his badge standing proud on his chest. His clothes were a little tight so it showed off his muscular figure. You loved his long boots a lot. You blushed when his wedding ring caught the light.
Levi put his notebook away. "Thank you, both of you and I'm sorry you had to deal with this shit."
Suzie shrugged. "Fucked up to say, but we're used to it."
Levi looked over at you with his brow raised. "That true?"
You hugged yourself. "It is."
"Tch, don't like it."
You rubbed his back. "I know, sugar."
He huffed. "It's not fair."
"Levi!" Mike waved to Levi. "I'll take Stu to cool off down at the station."
"Thanks. I'll escort you two home."
Suzie grabbed her things. "That's okay, sheriff. I'm happy to walk home now Stu is taken care of, but I'm sure your wife needs walking home."
Levi gazed at you. "May I escort you home?"
You nodded. "Please."
Levi smiled and opened the door. He waited for you to get your bag before walking you and Suzie out the front doors and waited for Suzie to lock up. "You sure you're going to be okay Suzie?"
Suzie winked at him. "I'm good. Was gonna go to the town bar for a drink anyway." She waved. "Thanks for saving us." She called your name. "Thanks for helping today. You were so cool and calm. I was impressed."
You blushed a little. "You're welcome."
Levi waved. "Night!" He sighed and looked down at you. "You wanna ride in the car?"
You hummed and gripped a bit of his shirt between your fingers. "Mm."
He rubbed your back. "You're doing so well. Let's get you home, okay?"
"Mm."
He opened the passenger side of the door and let you in. He hurried around to his side and drove the short drive home to your cute home right on the lake with a pretty garden. You and Levi were living the simple cottage dream. You were in absolute bliss with the love of your life.
Levi let you out of the car and locked it up. He escorted you inside and slipped his boots off, placed his belt on the side and hung up his hat. "All right, darlin', come here."
You threw yourself into Levi's arms and squeezed. "I was so scared."
"I can only imagine. That was not fair today for you to go through that. Stu is a piece of shit to do that."
You whimpered. "Yeah."
He picked you up and cuddled you. "I'm sorry you went through that all."
"It was horrible, but you saved the day."
"I'll always come running when you need me, okay?"
You nuzzled the crook of his neck. "Mm."
He sat down on the sofa and rubbed your back. "You wanna talk about it?"
"There's not much to talk about. It was scary to be there, but it's all done with. Thank you." You cupped his face. "So handsome and brave."
He smiled at you. "I love you."
"I love you so much."
Levi pulled you close and kissed you. "I don't know what I would have done if you had gotten hurt."
You massaged your fingers into his hair. "I knew you'd save me."
He leaned up and kissed you again. He sighed through his nose and nipped your lip. He slipped his tongue into your mouth and moaned in delight. He gripped your back tightly and moved with you. He could feel the desperation within your kiss. He lifted you up, lay you on the sofa, and snuggled up to you.
Levi held you close to him. "How are you feeling darlin'?"
You hugged Levi tightly. "I feel better, but more kisses."
Levi chuckled and kissed you passionately. "You know I love kissing you. I can't get enough of it and it makes you feel better, right?"
You nodded and kissed him again. "I love kissing you. I love you, Levi. I love you so much."
"I love you too. You are my everything."
What If Steve Were To Leave Hawkins? Part 4
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3
I wasn't originally going to write about Dustin's reaction but @doubleb11 gave me the idea. I hope it meets your expectations! We go back to Steve's POV in Chicago in the next part. Thank you again for everyone's nice comments!
~*~*~*~
It was no secret that Dustin was struggling. He tried to remain hopeful and upbeat but his insecurities made maintaining a positive attitude difficult. Why would Steve leave? He had promised that he would always be there for Dustin. But so had his deceased grandparents and his dad that left without so much as a goodbye.
The common denominator had to be Dustin. He knew that he was too sarcastic, too smart to be relatable, and kind of annoying. But he thought Steve understood. He’s always had trouble connecting with people but he thought that Steve was a lifelong friend, an older brother, if you will, that would never drift away. Since the time Steve gave him poor dating advice while looking for Dart, they had been best friends. So why would he leave?
Looking back, he could see why Steve might have underestimated his own importance to the Party. All of its members were a bit emotionally repressed and didn’t know how to talk about their feelings. They all tended to show their love through acts of service or quality time instead of words of affirmation. They did show their love and he thought Steve understood their feelings. But still, if Steve needed verbal validation, he didn’t get any. And Dustin had been a bit too preoccupied talking to Suzie to spend time with him, instead using the excuse of needing a ride to get in his regular amount of ‘Steve-time’. Regardless of his reasons, he felt guilty and useless when it came to searching for the older boy.
It had been a mere two days since they had all found out about Steve’s leave and it was already affecting Dustin. When he wasn’t pretending to be okay, throwing a tantrum, or worrying about Steve’s well-being, he was ignoring the glances cast in his direction by the other Party members. Eddie had given him a ride to Mike’s for DnD and had tried to ask how he was doing. Dustin pretended to not hear the question and thanked him for the ride. Lucas had asked him if Steve had reached out yet. No, why would he? Dustin probably caused him to leave. Max and El asked if he was alright since he was quieter than usual. No, stop talking to him. Mike and Will avoided asking him questions but their concerned gazes were just as annoying. He was fine.
Who cares that his pseudo-older brother left without talking to him just like his deadbeat dad? Not him.
Joyce gave him a ride home from Mike’s when she picked up Will. She assured him that Hopper was doing everything he could to find Steve and that they’d have him home in no time. Dustin couldn’t find it himself to believe her. He just thanked her for the ride and made his way inside. He just wanted a night alone without anyone checking on him or bringing up Steve.
His mom was waiting for him in the kitchen and gave him a gentle smile when he walked in. “How was your game, Dusty?”
Dustin sighed. He wasn't in the mood to talk but his mom wasn’t aware of the situation and she certainly didn’t deserve any of his snark. “Hi mom, it was fun. Will is DM’ing again and Eddie has been giving him pointers. He was ruthless today.”
She hummed and pinched his cheek when she handed him the plate she had saved him from dinner. “Oh goodness, I almost forgot! Your friend Steve called to talk to you. I told him that you were with Mike today. He didn’t leave a message but you might want to call him later, okay Dusty? He sounded a little strange.”
“STEVE CALLED?” Dustin practically screamed as he whipped around in his seat, the bread roll propelling from his hand into a kitchen cabinet.
His mother looked slightly alarmed but also woefully accustomed to his flamboyant antics. “Yes, Dusty. Don’t throw food, what did that dinner roll ever do to you?”
Dustin’s eyes rolled hard. “I’m sorry. You said Steve called? What did he say? Was he okay? Was he in distress?”
“No, he sounded a bit tired but that’s our Steve. He just asked for you and didn’t have a message to leave once I told him you were out. He will probably call back sometime later tonight or tomorrow sometime.”
Dustin felt his eyes fill with tears and his bottom lip started to quiver. Steve had tried to talk to him and he wasn’t there. What if he was hurt or in danger and Dustin was too busy playing make-believe to take his call? He would never forgive himself.
“Dusty? Oh no, honey! What’s wrong? Why are you crying?” His mother fretted over him and her concern is what pushed him over the edge.
Dustin burst into big, fat, ugly tears. He sobbed into his mother’s embrace and cried out his feelings of worry, sadness, and angered abandonment. His mom cooed over him and pet her hand through his unstyled curls until he found the strength to speak.
“Mom, Steve left. He just left Hawkins without telling anyone. He’s missing and we don’t know how to find him! And now he called and I wasn’t there! What if he’s hurt and he called me to help him? He left because I was a bad friend and now he’s gone! We can’t even find a way to bring him back.” Dustin wailed through sullied tears.
Claudia whispered words of comfort and encouragement as she held her sad boy in her arms. “Dusty, he sounded fine. I’m sure he was just calling to check in on you and tell you where he is. I don’t know why he would leave so suddenly but I doubt it was because of you, Dusty.”
“No mom, it was me! He’s been distant and sad for weeks and I told the Party to give him space. Me! I said that. I told them to leave him alone and no one checked in on him. I never even told him what he meant to me. What if he never comes back, mom? He’ll never know how much we love him!”
Claudia was confused with this whole situation. She’s known Steve for nearly three years now and has been nothing but impressed by the older boy. He helped her care for her little Dusty while she was at work or her book clubs. Steve didn’t have a selfish bone in his body, always refusing to take her money for babysitting and relinquishing his free time to drive her admittedly needy son around. It doesn’t make any sense for Steve to abandon the kids he helped raise, the kids who counted on him a fair amount, to leave town out of nowhere. The young man that she knew would never knowingly cause such distress in her little Dusty or his friends.
“Dusty, I think Steve is dealing with something beyond you or the rest of your friends. He might need some time to work on it but he will be back and he knows how much he means to you. Just give him time. He called today and the next time he calls, I’ll take a message. Alright? Everything will be fine.”
God, he hoped his mom was right about this. Dustin did feel better at her words but there was still a seed of doubt in his mind. Unfortunately, there was nothing else he could do about the situation until Hopper tracked Steve down or until Steve reached out again. For now, he would wait for his best friend to call again and alert the Party to give them the update. For now, he would have hope.
Comic Log: Sex Criminals
I am going to go apeshit.
Tumblr media
Sex Criminals is a romantic-comedy-drama with elements of science-fantasy and crime fiction. It is somewhat notable for very frank discussions and portrayals of sexuality, kink, fetishism, mental health, repression, and intimacy, by which I mean the characters recite Instagram infographics at each other, and there's a lot of drawings of dicks and pussies and butts. It is written by Matt Fraction (who I think is a pretty interesting character and humor writer with some great high concepts) and illustrated by Chip Zdarsky (who, to his credit, puts a lot of silly or amusing background gags and makes some compelling panels and sequences).
Tumblr media
The premise is that a woman, Suzie, and a man, Jon, both of whom have been affected by a series of everyday traumas (a parent dying in an outlandish way, the conga line of humiliations that is adolescence, the terror of being a subject), also both have the ability to freeze time when they orgasm. When the two meet, fuck, and realize they share this ability, the two decide to rob the bank Jon works for in order to save Suzie's library from foreclosure. Unfortunately, they find they are not the only ones who can enter "The Quiet"/"Cumworld" - encountering a self-appointed Sex Police - and what ensues is a somewhat meandering story of 1) how Suzie and Jon get together, break up, get back together, and break up again, and 2) how the duo will get out from under the thumb of the weirdos that are monitoring their sex lives.
This is, I think, a pretty interesting concept! But Sex Criminals bears all the hallmarks of a serialization that got beyond the creators' control, drifting away from its initial ideas but never securing a new footing. What I mean by this is that the series is an entirely different beast at the start than it is at the end, and trying to trace its development from issue #1 to issue #69 (ha) is maddening. Broken into six five-issue arcs:
The first arc centers on the initial bank-robbery, told in a non-linear style, and emotionally focuses on the whirlwind romance and chemistry between Suze and Jon.
The second and third arcs are about exiting the honeymoon phase, as the pair initially try to get out of the situation altogether, but get drawn back into further investigation after some tit-for-tat with the antagonists, and discover more people who also have sex-related powers (I would explain more but literally none of it ends up mattering). We get more focus on the supporting cast.
The fourth arc is a crash and burn as things start coming apart and the relationship implodes, at the same time that new stakes are established on the "crime-action" side of the story. Also some of the supporting cast just drops out of the narrative.
I think it's the fifth and sixth arcs where things totally go awry - after Jon and Suzie's breakup, we have a lot of wheel-spinning issues focused on supporting characters that don't go anywhere, we have a new central antagonist who is retroactively tied into the beginning of the series in a clumsy way, we get a couple of unjustified face turns for the initial antagonists (the character of Myrtle is totally malevolent - using slut-shaming to get someone fired, destroying a building out of spite, etc. - and never at any point does anything actually redemptive, she just arbitrarily gets reassigned to Team Good Guy). The series keeps gesturing as though it's building towards a grand confrontation, but...
Eventually Jon and Suzie get back together, and the timeline-muckery and criminal conspiracy side of the plot resolves without the involvement or choices of any of the characters. Basically the evil gay sadist banker has been pulling a bunch of financial crime so he can harvest Orgone energy in order to "change the past" because he had a premonition of Suzie, who he thinks is God, telling him to do so. Suzie stops him, becomes one with The Quiet, then is drawn back into reality by her love (?) for Jon. Then Jon and Suzie break up anyway offscreen before the epilogue.
In one of Fraction's letters sections he says that at a certain point, he lost interest in the whole "criminals" angle and was more interested in exploring the relationship between Jon and Suzie. That's fine, it's the core of the work, and indeed it is what makes the story compelling. But that disinterest in one half of the titular premise makes the ongoing conspiracy-crime-time-stopping side of the story feel like it's sandbagging everything else. Essentially, too many ideas got introduced in those first four arcs that eventually became superfluous to the story Fraction wanted to tell - but he couldn't get rid of them altogether because they were load-bearing (ha) elements. So we end up with a finale issue focused on two characters getting married when they have not done a single thing of import in the series besides hit Jon in the face with a dildo.
Tumblr media
Ultimately I think what frustrates me so much about Sex Criminals is that it has some good characters, and the plot goes interesting directions, and it has some striking visual metaphors and imagery, but it never lets the three combine in a way that really bears solid narrative or thematic fruit. Almost nothing that happens in the last ten issues (before epilogue issue 69) actually matters: most of it doesn't advance the plot, and most of it also doesn't develop the characters. The epilogue is particularly odious because it has Suzie - *the* main character - come out of it looking distinctly like not a character, and more like just a thing that Jon experienced in his journey to be less of a fuck-up.
Also, it must be said:
1) after a whole lot of tedious paeans to sex positivity, the final villain is like a homophobic stereotype of a Bateman-esque sadist who gets off on inflicting cruelty through a combination of BDSM and emotional abuse. weird!
2) Jon is primarily characterized as having "issues with authority" (and is explicitly identified as having oppositional defiance disorder, which is...a choice), and the ultimate resolution to his story is for him to go to jail so he can straighten out his act. weird!
I highlight these not to say the work is "problematic" but rather to illustrate that I do not think Fraction really thought through the implications of his work, because these kinds of closing thematic gestures are in extreme tension with the rest of the work.
Note
It occurs to me that we never saw kris or suzy in the epilogue (though I think the latter was mentioned once? Idk). Did uh… are they doing decently?
// the darkworld arc had been abandoned/retconned. while there IS a UT-universe version of Kris and Susie (assuming Frisk isn't Kris in UT, tho Kris is still very much their own person regardless) in AFR, we will only know Susie in the redraw. (again... assuming UT Susie is Suzy and not a sister like the catty and catti situation.)
x-x we just know too little about DR we don't even know how the universes mirror each other and the timelines are all WHACK. its a nightmare to write for or even theorize about. i esp dont wanna think about how they'd change in the time skips of AFR.
anyway in the redraw we'll see a LOT more of Susie as Frisk's whole journey is about befriending her. i didn't add her and MK into the epilogue because we need a proper foundation that the redraw will provide. at that point, my Susie would diverge from canon Suzy heavily as her story would be quite different.
uh. speaking of that arc...
Tumblr media
So. My original plan for the rewrite was for Gaster and Riverperson to have worked together in the prime timeline. then gaster got yeeted from time, leaving his work behind. Then, Chara would run away to the underground looking for a purpose and an escape from Asriel's BS and the island. (though, thinking on it, logically Mt.Ebott wouldn't be on monsterland... as that's exiled from humanity. so idk about that anyway)
Anyway exploring true lab Chara accidently uncovers an artificial darkworld and gets stuck as a ghostly narrator again, this time as a cherub with Feylow. Frisk, Susie and MK would be the party and they'd have to make their way home together. I've heavily considered this portion being a fangame-only material, for better play-value.
but uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
ughhhhhhhh.
ugghghh.... gaster.
The story itself can keep gaster to a bare minimum. The guy is scattered across time. he's not directly involved at all. at most we know he did SOMETHING to chara in the prime timeline with their soul and now things are on the fritz (what caused this AU) up until fake DW, where they're possessed again.
(˘・_・˘)
I just don't want to play with DR canon at all anymore. darkworlds are inherently going to tie into that. and granted, in UT canon there's entry #17 that implies a growing darkness... it's not a stretch that Gaster could of done this. And he DID have a DT extractor, and the timeline is vague but the similar wording (and how old the core is) could imply he was around Chara's time. None of this is a stretch
buuuut working with Darkworld, even if it's a fake one, is too close to DR canon and we just don't know much yet. when i first did the darkworld, i thought it'd be a fun excursion into the same chapter 1 area... but i got too into the improv and imagination side of things without understanding the original at all. (and bad improv) it didn't really hit me that DR was it's own game and lore until Chapter 2, and I realized just how early on we are into that game's story.
I just... I can work with what I've got, I can avoid DR canon as much as I can but ultimately, I'm working with 2/7ths worth of puzzle pieces.
I don't wanna do any of this. Gaster used to be a "free for all" in the fandom to do whatever timeline/lore thing you wanted to pull of cause he was free real-estate. but now DR is treating him more and more as a character and I don't wanna touch the guy as he's going to be jossing the story.
idk what to do in all honesty. The darkworld portion IS important, Chara goes through major character development that the Continue Arc is built on. But I've been struggling with Feylow as a concept, and well, this. what the hell am I going to do.
"Teens around here reach out to drugs by themselves" have u ever considered why children might do drugs and the psychology behind that
"Show how mush of an abuser apologizer you are! Show it to everyone."
never said u needed to forgive ur abusers for anything actually, just that wishing them to be tortured and murdered is bad for ur mental health. but of course why would u ever be wrong about anything ur the most perfectest person in the world whose harmful actions are ALWAYS justified right? that wont have consequences for ur personal relationships later. nuh uh. this is just a one-off and not a foundational part of how u were raised that u dont wanna bother to untangle because it makes u feel better to spout hate. it wont ever effect anyone u care about, ur sure of it. only anyone who deserves it in your eyes.
Taking a break from Marvel has helped me a whole lot mentally down to how I write my stories. Sad since it taught me that not every retcon is bad (see Magneto). A retcon falls in the category of bad when writers completely contradict what was established, alter fundamental aspects into a direction that makes no sense and turn characters into worse versions of themselves. By far to me tho, Jojo made the best retcons (I see you like that manga/anime too, what's your favourite stand and part?)
In Marvel and for X-Men especially, retcon's came in all shades and forms.
The Azazel retcon to me wasn't bad since it didn't change Nightcrawler's very nature (Azazel was never a demon so Nightcrawler isn't a half demon), didn't make him the most important character ever, didn't make stuff about his life after his birth all premeditated and now unimportant to him, didn't undo the reason why he was abandoned by Mystique since 1991, didn't undo the way he views the Szardos, didn't make him disregard the way his bio family treated him for the sake of blood ties, didn't make him overlook the harm they willingly inflicted onto him and others, didn't give him an extensive case of amnesia, didn't make him have an identity crisis, didn't make the AUs where he was raised by Mystique impossible or unlikely, ...
The Destiny retcon on the other hand wrecked all of that. There's nothing, absolutely nothing that was kept and now makes sense from X-Men Unlimited. It all sounds like loopholes being jumped rather than a cohesive narrative. Nightcrawler cares about his biological family more than his adoptive or his mutant one. His adoptive family isn't an entire world to him, they're a stepping stone to tick a box of characteristics so he is the way he is in present day. The reason why he was abandoned by Mystique was changed from the ground up. The retcon did all of that to now have Mystique and Destiny be his parents yet the dynamic Nightcrawler has with his biological family has pretty much not changed and is the same as before the retcon : Mom doesn't care about and doesn't want anything to do with him like she literally forgot he happened and "Father" wanted to have him and cares to some extent about him (even tho with all the DNA imprinting Mystique didn't of Azazel's DNA, she is more like a distant relative to Nightcrawler than a direct parent). We're back to square one and somehow went further backwards.
What did the Azazel retcon do ? Keep the same setting and key characters Lobdell used and didn't make any of them irrelevant, not change the powers they had at the time, develop the setting where Nightcrawler would have grown-up in if he was born normal looking, develop the Baron who would have been his father under other circumstances, reveal why the Baron died before he was born (X-Men Unlimited left that up in the air), give an explanation behind Nightcrawler's appearance and powers but still had luck at play as his other parent had normal children with other abilities previously, add a layer of reasons why Mystique abandoned him and didn't care about his whereabouts even after meeting again years later, give Nightcrawler some more reasons to pity Mystique's situation at the time and feel compassionate towards her, add more natural tragedy to Nightcrawler's origins, make his adoptive family the only real good people in the story and his life, ...
What did the Destiny retcon do ? None of that.
Oh yeah retcons aren't inherently bad but when comic companies start doing several retcons back to back its very unlikely that a lot of them are gonna be good. It starts to make reading them as a story pointless if the narrative is gonna invert itself repeatedly.
I do agree that Jojo has had the best retcons the retcon with Josuke existing as a bastard child of Joseph whilst it did kind of ruin Joseph's relationship with Suzie Q it was an interesting way to add a new Jojo without it being Jotaro's kid and having to age him up further. Pucci and the other Dio agents that show up in the later parts like Yoshihiro Kira are a great example of retconning the story to add in characters where it makes sense and connect them to Dio.
My favourite Stand overall is Killer Queen but Star Platinum is pretty close. Favourite Part is still 1.
Yeah Azazel as a retcon was simple really it was just this ancient demonic Mutant that fathered him. There wasn't no 4 parentage story or a whole destiny that Nightcrawler hasn't even fulfilled lol or how in alternate timelines like AoA where Nightcrawler and Azazel don't even battle each other. And yes AoA whilst different was originally an altered timeline for 616.
The Destiny retcon was like some of the worst official fanfiction around as well as trying hard not to contradict the previous origin story. And honestly any origin story that requires you to write a paragraph to explain is bad plain and simple
Where the Boys Are
a/n: sorry this chapter is a bit shorter than the first, next chapter is going to be a long one though.
Part Two: Laughing On the Outside
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first week back at Hawkins was fine at best, and boring at worst. Between syllabus' and ice breaker introductions Mia found herself finding sanity in her best friends. Her boyfriend was nowhere to be found most of the time and otherwise he was causing mayhem with the other varsity boys. He'd found the time to finally give her his late birthday present. It was a pink bracelet that she had sworn she'd seen in one of the arcade game prize boxes. Kevin swore though that he tried really hard in getting it and that's what should matter.
The topic found itself being brought up again at Mia's house after school days after it happened. They were gathered around the kitchen island talking about it and looking for snacks, "he's could do so much better than that! How is he on the varsity team and working with his dad but cant afford to get you some nice jewelry? I mean Macy's is right there." Her friend Jenny complained as she looked around the pantry. Rolling her eyes, Suzie shook her head in agreement as she placed a cut up apple in front on the counter, "sorry to say it Mia, its out of love, but you could do so much better. It's senior year! Find a better guy!" She knew deep down they were right, but he had always been sweet to her.
Her mother had always said it isn't the money so much as it is the meaning. However, her father had always made sure she good jewelry and clothes. She knew she couldn't say it out loud though so she simply said what she always does, "he means well. That's what counts." They rolled their eyes as always, which made her laugh because she knows they meant well, but she was just glad the conversation moved onto other things. As they moved onto other topics the doorbell went off, her mom yelled from the laundry room to go see who it was. She rolled her eyes telling her friends she'd be right back
Mia opened the door slightly to see Steve standing there, black ray bans coming off, "hey big girl. Your dad's home right? His car is in the driveway." She nodded opening the door fully. Steve took in sight of her, she had half an apple slice in her mouth and was walking around in pink socks and her school clothes still. Then he saw her friends peaking out from the kitchen. She wasn't sure why the situation felt a bit awkward, maybe not for him, but she hadn't stopped thinking about the last time they talked. How they had neared a situation that would have put her into some real trouble with her boyfriend.
Ever the charmer though, Steve said hello to her friends and chatted them up about school. The conversation ended up on her relationship again. Out of curiousity he asked them, "so what did Kevin end up getting you for birthday." Suzie and Jenny looked over at their friend with a concerned smile as she lifted her left hand displaying the plastic pink bracelet. Mia could see the smile forming on Steve's face, she knew what was coming. He was trying his best not to laugh but he couldn't help it. Instantly regretting it he apologized, "listen I'm not trying to be an asshole, it's just wow. It's cute though." He explained with a shrug, she was still frowning, but her friends simply sighed in defeat at the whole situation.
This was his moment though, so before she could push him away, he started talking again, "listen the only reason I ask is because I didn't get you a gift-" she cut him off, "we didn't really know each other it's okay-" he cut her off, "that's not how I was brought up little girl." To which she pouted but he pulled a small white rectangular leather case from his pant's pocket, "I'm not sure if you want to open it now, but this is my late gift, I'm sorry I didn't come prepared better last time." She rolled her eyes playfully, taking the gift from his hold. Her friends looked at her with hopeful eyes, egging her on to open it, she giggled, "alright! Alright! Hold on!" Carefully she opened the case revealing a beautiful white gold watch. The look on her face was everything, her eyes looked like bambi as they looked up at him, "Steve this is..." speechless, he left her speechless. Her friends looked at him impressed.
Mia tenderly and carefully pulled the watch out, before she could, he helped her, "here sweetheart let me." He began to adjust the watch on her right hand, "it's a gold tone diamond watch. It looked like it would suit you well." She simply nodded along, in her mind thinking this is what she had expected from her boyfriend, not her dad's employee. Still this is what she had been waiting for, a reminder that how she was treated as girl would continue into her womanhood. Maybe it was selfish but even her friends were smiling and happy for her at the moment. As he finished clasping the watch, she stepped back admiring it on her wrist, "it's so beautiful! Thank you Steve!" He didn't have time to react before she engulfed him in a hug, what else could he do but hug her back, he knew he was winning by a long shot. Smoothly he said, "eh it's no biggie. You only turn eighteen once, gotta make it memorable." The moment didn't last though, her mother's voice rang from the hall, "Mia who was it?" She walked into the kitchen to see Steve standing there beside her daughter, "afternoon Mrs. Romano, just here to see your husband. Sorry I got caught up in the chit chat." She smiled at Steve, "he's in his office in the garage." Steve nodded and started walking towards the hall where she pointed at with her arm, leaving the girls to have something new to talk about.
-
The gift giving had happened all about a week and a half ago, and still she found herself admiring it. Kevin had asked who had gifted her the watch and she said Steve, not really knowing how he would react. The indifference to hearing it came from him didn't leave her mind. Maybe he was just confident in their loyalty to one another, or maybe he just didn't care. She wanted to believe the first, it was her unintentional flaw when it came to love, especially since he had been the only guy she had ever dated. Sure she'd heard from her friends that other guys found her cute or whatever, but one thing she learned from her family especially was that loyalty meant everything.
Unbeknownst to her though, there was more that was happening. Steve knew he had somewhat of an advantage on the kid, but Mia was far too kind to hurt him any way. Was it wrong of him to keep tabs on her? Possibly, but he couldn't be too certain of anything. The watch was both a educated guess and a miracle, but he knew now that even her friends despised the guy so why not continue doing what he does best and keep an eye on her. The kid working under him was dating Suzie, had he known that earlier maybe he could have some better information, but better late than never.
Word spreads quickly within the young of Hawkins and there was going to be a house party after first pep rally of the school year. Of course, Mia and her friends were going to go, apparently the kid even promised to get Mia back home before midnight and there would be no funny business, guess he still hadn't broken up with her. Steve knew his boss was just showing face to avoid trouble with people who had no clue what really went on. Still high schoolers want the good times to roll, so he knew who would be there to spread the good times, and so, Eddie who also worked for his father was noted to keep an eye out for her and her friends while he worked the party, but her boyfriend could fend for himself. Parties though an interesting thing because no one really knows what could happen regardless of all the planning in the world.
Jouta
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ref for Jouta and his stand (his new refs. His old ref can be used, but only Charmy's new ref can be used)
Info under the cut (has been updated since his last ref) (sorry if the info is all over the place it was originally on discord)
His backstory is different from the original Jouta's backstory. Jotaro and Kakyoin were teaming together yet again to track down some of DIO's followers that they didn't fight. One of these followers was an unnamed stand user/stand. The stand user was able to be able to handle themselves against them both, even causing them great wounds, but they were able to best the user.
But the stand had one last 'ability', it could 'cheat death' in a sort of backwards way. But is basically created a completely new being, one with no memory of its past life. It did this by using the blood from both Jotaro and Kakyoin to create a new being, even with a new stand as the original user/stand died. The new being (that would become named Jouta) was around 6 years old. (Depending on the amout of blood it used/could get is depending on how old the new being would have been)
At first they were going to kill the kid, as it obviously came from the enemies ability. But they realized that it was literally just a kid, with no memory of the past life. They still didn't fully trust the kid, but didn't want to just leave a 6 year old on their own, and didn't want to give him to someone just in case he was faking missing memory. So they ended up taking Jouta with them to track down what was left of the stand users in that area. Kakyoin seemed to get the feeling that they were in the clear in terms of the kid being just a kid, and Jotaro trusting Kakyoin on this let Kakyoin decide what to do with the kid.
Though Jouta wasn't fully human, with the sharp teeth, and what seems to be unusual strength for someone his age. But since at the time he wasn't really doing anything bad they dismissed it of being a byproduct of being part stand.
They decided to meet up with the rest of the stardust crusaders to explain the situation, and to get others opinions on the matter. Met with scepticism at first but was dismissed after the story had been told the others seemed to get along with the kid.
____
Joseph named the kid Jouta, and told Kakyoin and Jotaro that he could take Jouta off of his hands and him and Suzi Q could look after him. Which both agreed was the best, but Kakyoin stated that he'd still be in Jouta's life, since he couldn't just leave a kid that's basically his. Even if the situation was weird.
During the time of Jouta with Joseph and Suzi Q, Joseph taught Jouta qutie a few things such as Hamon and predicting what people will say next. Jouta picked up a bit of Joseph's personality in terms of being a bit of a goof, and being a bit cocky. Much to everyones amusment of him being a little shit with people
Still in this time Jouta struggled a bit with emotions, and would get frustrated easily. Leading him to go non-verbal, and since he didn't really know how to communicate when non-verbal he'd get his point across by biting people if they did something he didn't like (this is a behaviour he never really fully grows out of). Due to this they people around Jouta started to learn sign language (unsure of which sign they'd learn yet)
Jouta started to get taught at the Speedwagon Foundation, e.g. kinda like homeschooling but at the Foundation. But after a few months was moved into schooling at the Foundation after a kid decided to bully Jouta. He (Jouta) ended up breaking the kids arm by accident, since he wasn't used to his in-human strenght/didn't fully realize how weak humans are.
In this time they came to also realise that Jouta has a stand, but Jouta never fully showed it, only had it unraveled. Leading to everyone assuming thats all there was of the stand. Jotaro was tasked with naming it, and grabbed the nearest thing that happened to be dish-soap so called the stand "Charmy Green", even though the stand had already given itself a name Jouta never corrected them.
⭐⭐⭐
After a few years (5) Kakyoin ended up fully taking in Jouta and looking after him. Jotaro ends up being around a bit, but doesn't fully get involved with things Jouta does. Just before Jouta fully moved in with Kakyoin is when he met Jolyne (who was around 6-7 years old ((she was around 3-4 when Jouta first came to exist)) Jouta would be around 11). Kakyoin made up the excuse to Jotaro's wife that he adopted Jouta since a family member of his couldn't take care of him anymore, and thats why he now has Jouta (since the wife knew Kak a bit before Jouta appeared). Jotaro's wife pretty much accepted that and even treated Jouta as one of her own, having Jolyne and Jouta being raised like siblings (despite the fact they actually are).
A few more years go by (4), Jouta on top of doing schooling at the Foundation would also do tasks for the Speedwagon Foundation and Kakyoin, as well as doing stand training with both Kakyoin and Jotaro, even still not showing his stand. So at this point both Kakyoin and Jotaro believed thats all there was to Jouta's stand.
Also during this time, Kakyoin would have Jouta doing things/chores for the elderly in their neighborhood, since Kakyoin wanted Jouta to go be social, since with Jouta oly having interactions with family/family friends/Speedwagon Foundation, he wanted him to have more interaction to try to help Jouta. Jouta didn't mind too much, since the people he'd do odd jobs for were nice to him, and would normally offer him food. (food is the way to his heart. How to easily befriend him)
When Jotaro and his wife devorced, Jouta still visits her and Jolyne, Jouta trying his best to be a sort of perental figure since Jotaro seemed to fade out of the family picture. Though Jotaro did try to make an effort, especially since he had Jouta nagging him all the time about spending time with Jolyne.
⭐⭐⭐
After all that, for Jouta's last year of high school, Kakyoin decided to put Jouta back into public school in hopes Jouta would interact with people, specifically in hopes Jouta would make some actual friends. It caused an argument between Jouta and Kakyoin, since Jouta didn't want to go into public school, but Kakyoin didn't back down and told Jouta that hes going. Jouta normally doesn't argue, and normally does as he is told, but this was something he really wasn't happy about.
Before the school year started, Kakyoin decided to move them both to Morioh, so Kakyoin could be closer to his family. And would give Jouta a fresh start. This was done as well since Kakyoin wouldn't be suprised if people in their old area remembered about Jouta breaking that kids arm. So this was done in hopes that a reputation wouldn't follow Jouta around.
Jotaro ended up coming along when Jouta first moved to Morioh, not to live there too, but to let Jouta meet Josuke and the rest of the Morioh gang. This was done since he (Jotaro) wanted people to look out for Jouta, since he wasn't sure how Jouta would be in school.
On his (Jouta's) first day when waiting for the bus he nearly gets into a fight, since he decided to defend someone from the punks of the school. (this person happened to be Rae). Which Josuke and co. go there in time to break it up. In which Rae eneded up following Jouta around after that, since Jouta pretty much deterred anyone trying to pick on him.
Jouta would hang out with Josuke and co. but also likes to go off on his own, e.g. going off campus at dinner, since he didn't exactly want to eat, but also doesn't want to hang around people. But it never stopped Rae from tagging along. Which it ended up at dinner Jouta would even wait for Rae to get out of class so they could head out together. Or would even walk Rae home at the end of the day, since Rae's house was on the way to his.
⭐⭐⭐
During this time he never really showed Rae he had a stand, since he didn't really want anything to do with stands. Ignoring whenever Rae had Blood Sugar out. And would act like he didn't notice the stand. But due to being friends with Josuke and co. Rae ended up finding out.
A bit after being in the school, Someone started to use their stand to mess with Rae and Jouta, causing people who were otherwise uninterested in them now suddenly became obsessed with them. Leading to Jouta having a terrible time, since he didn't like random people trying to grab onto his arms and stuff.
Both Jouta and Rae see it as a stand doing this, and set out to find the user, since Jouta is basically moments away from blowing up and hitting people. After some investigation they find the user (unnamed as of yet) and their friend (Yua). Which with Jouta threatening them, then a fight between him and Yua they came to a uneasy pact to not mess with each other. But this ended up with them slowly becoming friends.
⭐⭐⭐
During the time when Jouta, Rae and Yua were hanginig out they found a stand (King of Convenience, or King for short). The stand was being harassed by a few stray dogs trying to play with him. In which the group saves King from the dogs. But since they weren't sure if King was evil they sort of began to harass him too. They didn't just want to let King run free, but both due to Rae and Yua's home situations they couldn't take King in, so it lead to Jouta taking King back home with him. Which Jouta had to explain to Kakyoin about King, since he wasn't sure if King would try to attack and wanted Kakyoin to be aware of a possible danger.
Since Jouta has hobbies like knitting/sewing/art he was able to stitch King back to new. Which King appreciated. After that the group decided to keep him and add him to their group, in which they discovered Kings power of having a pocket dimention. Which they used to store things, or even use it as a sort of hideout for themselves.
⭐⭐⭐
Jouta is 6,5 (still growing) and is around 17 years old. Jouta is technically part stand. Having in-human strength, sharp teeth, and eyes can narrow into slits. He is also bordering on having a photographic memory, though he doesn't really use that memory for productive things, more like being able to remember films and just have them playing in his head when hes bored.
He calls Kakyoin "Dad" or "Papa" and Jotaro either "Pops" or sometimes "Old Man". He will normally call Joseph "Gramps" and also the "Old Man" nickname too. Calls Suzi Q "Nonna", and Holly “Nana”
Jouta is an emotional person, and can be impulsive acting on emotions, this can lead to him possibly being easily manipulated, or easily baited into getting mad. In tern this makes it easy for enemies to fight him due to being able to take advantage of Jouta’s personality. Jouta is just a bit all over the place with his personality, and can get easily spooked into shutting down and acting emotionless, or easily spooked into having too much emotion. Jouta can also get hung up on things said about him, especially if its said by people he cares about.
But despite this, his normal personality is a bit of a goof and a cocky asshole. But one that has a big heart for his family/friends and would do anything for them. Sure he'd never admit this to people, but people seem to pick up on it from little things he does for them to try to show he cares.
⭐⭐⭐
Stand's music reference "Rainbow Kitten Surprise - Freefall"
Jouta doesn't really use his stand (fully, he will use it when its unravaled) when he has friends around, since due to the explosions his stand causes its a go big or go home sort of deal. Friend or foe the explosions don't discriminate.
His stand also doesn't fully listen to him. Well technically it does, mainly when it comes to fighting. But it goes off of Jouta's emotions rather than what Jouta thinks he wants, it goes off of subconscious thoughts.
Editional info on what Devil Freefall can do:
Make Jouta invulnerable to small explosions when fully out, or can let Jouta chill in its open chest to make him invulnerable to larger explosions.
Can do something similar to "Crimson Moon" (from Fire Force).
And later on (when he uses a stand arrow to get an extra ability) gets the ability to stop other stand abilities for a short time (in which like time stop, he can train this ability to last longer)
⭐⭐⭐
Jouta due to how stong he is and what his stand is capable of is partly scared of his stand and himself, as hes always super worried about possibly hurting ones who are close to him. So normally when he does touch someone he cares about normally he does so with caution. But Rae is a physically affectionate person (so is Jouta its just the fear he has that stops him), Rae tries to help Jouta get over this fear.
Due to his fear of himself, he also fears the fact he isn't human. His fear of his stand and what it says about him as a person. And his slight fear of not exactly being human. He's just got such a worry about the fact he sees himself as a monster, even though he hasn't really done anything bad intentionally. He knows this fear shouldn't exist, but he can't help but have the dread that comes with his existence.
Jouta also has a fear of people, specifically strangers, since he doesn't really know what they're thinking or going to do next, Joseph somewhat found a way to help Jouta with this fear, without knowing he did. And it was when he taught Jouta to be able to know what people are going to say next, but Jouta can only really use it in specific situations to help himself. But its enough for Jouta to somewhat be fine interacting with strangers.
One of his last fears is a fear of the dark. This started when he pretty much started existing. When Kak and Jotaro were taking him around with them while they tried to work out if he was a threat. Since enemy stand user attacks happened under the cover of night, the darkness. This also lead his stand to develop glowing hair to try to combat this fear of the dark for Jouta. (The hair basically turned into fire, so its added defence for the stand)
⭐⭐⭐
Jouta wants to learn about his past life. He knows he was a bad person in his past life. But he isn’t aloud access to the file on his past life, nor is he aloud access to his own file (from the Speedwagon Foundations files on stand users). (Which those two files later get stolen by Giorgi). He knows he’d be devised by what he reads about his past life, but he feels he has a right to know, since he’s so scared of becoming the person he once was.
Thank you for your kind words, @iloitse, and your thoughts, with which I agree.
Tumblr media
I also see Brock with Suzie. When I used to plan out my own region, it finished with them together.
To me she's the one girl receptive to his attention, perhaps not in a loving sense, at least not yet, but no other lady ever treated him so well.
Vulpix will always connect them, meaning Brock has a lasting relationship with Suzie, and a reason to find her again.
If Suzie handed Vulpix over within hours of meeting Brock, in that short period she'd recognized him as a kind, caring young man worthy of her trust, someone to keep Vulpix safe, and he did, repaying her faith in him.
Tumblr media
That's the sort of lad any girl wants to marry, and, as Vulpix is one of my favourite Pokémon, both can own it if they're together, which is my main motivation.
Vulpix for everyone!
I understand Tracey's true dream being to meet Professor Oak, but that's almost more useless than aiming to be an artist.
Drawing is dull viewing, but it keeps him occupied, and may lead to a career, but what did he want from Oak?
Yes, you've seen him. Very nice. And what are you intending to do now?
Tumblr media
If I think of it too much, it gives me the idea Tracey naturally assumed Oak would be so impressed he'd take him on immediately, and so he needn't plan further into future than that, which brings me back to his arrogance.
As for getting there, the only direct progress he makes is in three epidodes:
• The Lost Lapras, his introduction, by encountering Ash and Misty.
• A Tents Situation, his penultimate appearance, when he meets Oak.
• The Rivalry Revival, his exit, when he becomes an assistant.
Between the first and final two, there's a hole of nothingness.
I suppose each step he takes puts him closer, but plot-wise, it's an abstact quest of no use at this exact moment.
This wish of his won't motivate him into any action in individual episodes, nor does it affect how he behaves throughout.
Tumblr media
He should've had a task in the meantime that combined both interests, if say Oak directly asked him to make detailed illustrations of all the tropical Pokémon varieties.
As in, he must purposely go out and find them, not just the few he sees passing through.
There'd then be scenes when Tracey led the team, racing off into the woods as he's heard rumours of oddly-coloured Pokémon on the island, having to traverse caves and cliffs to find it, and maybe the Pokémon wants a favour before it complies, leading to another search.
Tumblr media
It might encourage him to colour the sketches in for a change.
As a trope, 'The Quiet One' works, but not so much in a trio. There's too few members for it to be a recognizable role.
It looks more like you're not doing enough.
I'm not certain it's what Tracey's supposed to be either, because he speaks often, but just doesn't say anything memorable.
Usually 'The Quiet One' is portrayed as sensitive, emotionally intelligent and highly perceptive, spotting the tiny details the loud mouths miss.
They'll sit on their own, or stare silently out to sea, in picturesque scenes absorbing their surroundings.
Whilst watching Pokémon encompasses this, I doubt he was deliberately designed to fill the spiritual or philosophical model, but that's the best interpretation of a flat, undeveloped personality.
Tumblr media
He certainly doesn't behave as The Quiet One when he has the major part in the story, so given the show credit for making a calm, laidback yet deep character, isn't something I can do.
It's so ridiculous. These writers put effort into creating Tracey, and cared enough to include him in the series, and then never took it further.
As soon as he was in, they gave up!
If however I accepted him as intentionally reserved, perhaps to counter the wilder edges of Ash and Misty, we still come back to Brock.
Tracey as The Quiet One would only ever be well-received had he been there from the outset, his relaxed, or withdrawn attitude given greater focus and serving as integrel to its beginnings.
By coming in late, no one will ever judge him on his own terms, or for himself.
He'll be held up beside Brock, and found to be not as interesting, and the longer the comparison persists, the less consideration he'll get, until fans lock him out of their minds and feel nothing but resentment.
Tumblr media
With regards to Pokéshipping, Tracey was seen as an obstacle to any theoretical romantic moments simply by being there.
Tumblr media
When Pokémon started, shipping as a concept, plus the surrounding fandom 'culture' didn't yet exist, as least not fully, and the only fellow fans available for discussion were those you knew in real life, which limited the sharing of ideas.
Therefore, children watching the very first episode weren't conditioned to see everything in terms of pairings, obsessively analysing each scene for clues etc.
Tumblr media
By the time Pokéshipping began, Brock was already there, so part of it, in a sense, and the ship fitted around him.
Whilst Tracey is also the 'third wheel', and technically, any allowances shippers made for Brock could also work for him, it will always come back to the ill-feeling Tracey provoked.
What people overlook or ignore in their friends they will hate in their enemies.
It's not particularly rational, but then human nature isn't rational.
Some fans take against Ash and Misty. Some dislike Team Rocket. But no one hates Brock. He holds both sides of the divide together.
Therefore, Pokéshippers will accept him, as he was there almost from day one, but not Tracey, as he's not built into the foundations, neither of the anime nor the ship.
Tumblr media
The writers didn't help matters by hinting at what might have been, fully knowing they'd never deliver.
Tumblr media
At the close of Pokéball Peril, as soon as Brock's gone, Team Rocket tease Ash and Misty as 'lovebirds', as if that's the obvious conclusion to them being alone.
A lot of shippers at home, still smarting at losing Brock, might've got over it had this continued, in that, whilst missed, Brock's absence is tolerable if it leads to more focus on Ash and Misty as characters, and greater detail on their emotions and thoughts, especially for each other.
Then Brock leaving means something, and can be justified as crucial to the coming story arc, but adding a replacement erases all that potential.
Removing Brock is pointless if we 'need' three Twerps, thus the writers squandered the opportunity to go in a new direction, which is, frustratingly, straight after they implied the opposite.
Tumblr media
I forgot to say before that Tracey is also hindered by his and the Orange League's perceived lack of legitimacy.
Ash, Misty, Brock, Gary, Delia, Oak, Joy and Jenny all come from the games.
Jessie and James, whilst not specifically featured, represent the villains of Red and Blue, which is a necessary invention as there were no named Team Rocket members besides Giovanni.
Tumblr media
Pokémon Yellow had also come out by then, retroactively adding them to the game world, so that's alright.
Tumblr media
Tracey however was the first main character to exist inside the anime alone, so not someone we were eager to see onscreen.
Back then, the branches of Pokémon: games, cartoon, cards, manga and merchandise, were much more connected and cross-referenced than they are now, and for the anime to adapt the game was considered very important.
When Tracey, with no roots in Red and Blue, comes in, and takes the place of Brock, who does, there was a feeling he hadn't 'earnt' his right to be there.
Who do you think you are, coming over here and acting like you belong?
Tumblr media
The Orange Islands aren't a bad series compared to what follows, but when judged only by Kanto, it marked a step away from the original purpose of animating the game, and that wasn't a popular move.
We 'knew' the Indigo League as players. We'd walked through the towns, battled there, and been the hero, but this place, this brand-new, never-before-mentioned archipelago, with little relevance to the mainland, held no such significance.
It's a bonus round before Johto, as if not worthy in itself, merely a stop-gap edition, just to have something, anything even, to keep the kids occupied until the real stuff arrives.
It didn't seem to matter as much because of all of the above, and the sleepy, drifting tone of wandering the seas, sailing wherever the currents go, amplified that.
If it doesn't care, why should we?
Tumblr media
Brock experienced blizzards, deserts, shipwrecks and eruptions like a proper adventurer.
He'd been through it all with Ash and Misty as a true companion.
Tumblr media
Tracey meanwhile, had really nothing but blue seas, clean beaches and fruit groves to worry about.
Overall, and visually, it's just one long summer holiday for him, with no hardship to test his mettle.
How could we even tell if he was worth our investment, when we never saw him deal with serious situations?
It's another circle: no one likes Tracey, because they associate him with the 'false' Orange League, and no one likes the Orange League, as that's the one with Tracey.
Tumblr media
Hating him is a very time-specific reaction.
You need to have been a child then, watching Pokémon in order, with no knowledge of what's to come, to feel it.
I wouldn't expect any fan outside that to join in if it's not part of their experience.
My younger self would never forgive me for mellowing with age, but then, when innocent enough to think Tracey was the worst thing that could ever happen to Pokémon, I didn't realise how lucky I was.
Because he most certainly isn't.
