i know its the bias talking but oneshot is far better than undertale towards succeeding in the theme of "breaking the fourth wall" - while undertale does do that, it's not enough to really make it feel so impactful. the only thing that really made it cool was how flowey shuts down your game in neutral route and chara's "jumpscare" is just shaking the window in genocide but that's really about it. also the use of save being more than just a save file is a cool concept but it still feels kinda "locked from potential".
oneshot, however. absolutely wins at utilizing the breaking the fourth wall gimmick and it even goes BEYOND what you'd think falls under that trope - so much so that it even freaked me out but it's all because its so impressive. its literally crucial to the plot that it has to feature you, the player.
perhaps this is definitely bias, but ive played undertale so many times, covering pacifist a few times and genocide once but memories are as fresh as the first day - and it only dawned on me this month how beautiful oneshot is
idk. hot take hehe
am i imploring, reader - to play oneshot? maybe. 💚 look at my bird boyfriend

For bunny AU! If request are still open, is there a favourite room in the basement among the premium members? Like what room they prefer to make out in, and who will they being in that specific room!
The different rooms in The Basement
In The Basement of Celestia’s Bunny Cafe, there are 10 rooms. 1 security booth and 9 separate bedrooms, each with different themes, where you can take a bunny boy of your choosing to spend some…’Quality time’ together.
Room 1: the basic suite 🏡
This room is modeled to look like any modern bedroom in a nice house. It gives that ‘we live together and are happily married together’ vibes that many customers enjoy! White, pristine sheets, a beautiful wooden bed frame, hanging plants and fake windows all set the scene. It almost feels like coming home after a long day of work to have some fun with your lover. Except you paid for this 0-0 this room is a classic because it was the first one to open! The basic suite and the regal suite were the only two rooms open for the first 2 months of…Basement activity offered at the cafe
This room is loved by all of the bunnies cause it’s a neutral, welcoming space. Diluc loves it!! Zhongli enjoys it but it looks a lot like his own bedroom…hmm…
Room 2: the regal suite 🌹
This room is made to feel like a royal bedroom! Something straight out of the palace of Versailles! Intricate decorations, the theme of pink and gold everywhere. Cream colored marble tiles, a veil covering the bed, pretty vases full of flowers, an old armoire in the corner where toys and extra sheets are kept. The light fixture is nice touch, it’s made to look like a little chandelier! Fake candles are also places around the room for an warm, golden glow. Faint violin music is played but it can be turned off if you’d rather fuck in silence. You’ll feel like a million bucks in here!!
Kaeya loves this room of course, he just has good taste! Albedo also likes this room, he likes the pretty glow of the fake candles :)
Room 3: the ‘bare bones’ suite 💀
This room is for those who just want to get down and dirty. This room is exactly what it sounds like. The bare minimum. A mattress on the floor and that’s it. This room is for those who plan on getting rough or messy, there’s no need to worry about breaking the bed frame or knocking anything over, the whole room is free reign. Each room has its own bathroom attached, this one is minimal as well. A shower, toilet and sink. No decorations. It’s literally…an empty room. Go wild
This is Dottore’s favorite because he doesn’t have to worry about paying his bosses back if he damages something. There’s nothing to damage!! Except you 0-0…kidding
Room 4: the 80s suite 🧡
This room is modeled after a modern day 80s aesthetic, not the old 80s where everything was wood and dingy looking. Fun, vibrant posters litter the walls, the sheets are red, orange and blue, there’s a lava lamp and funky lighting! 80s music is played and the best part is there’s a pole in the room along with an orange, plastic chair. Sit back and enjoy a show cause you very well could be getting a lap dance to Queen songs. Freddie would have wanted it this way
Ajax loves this room! He knows how to get down and groove!!…kinda.
Room 5: the club suite 👯
Laser lights, mirrored ceiling, a stripper pole and loud music, the atmosphere of this room is meant to feel like a club! It’ll get your blood pumping, that’s for sure!! When you lay back in bed, you’re met with your own reflection on the ceiling, you have a perfect view of yourself getting fucked or, instead, you can turn your attention to the pole and get a dance from your bunny too!! Bring some singles with you and make it rain!!
The better question here is ‘who doesn’t like this room?’. All of the bunnies love this room, it’s fun and energetic, it’s loud and you can be as loud as you want. Probably the most fun room available!
Room 6: the honeymoon suite 💞
This room is full of red and pink! From the heart shaped bed to the rose petals on the sheets, champagne in glasses by the bedside, the whole experience is meant to feel like a honeymoon fling. Guests love the overall feel of this room and some worry this may ruin their future honeymoon for them 0-0 uh oh!!
Baizhu loves this room because it feels very intimate! And those who pick this room usually aren’t looking for a fast, hard fuck, more like something slow and loving which he prefers as well. Diluc loves the intimate aspect of this room too, he’s here to please and he’ll take on the role of your fictional husband if that’s what pleases you. He kinda likes it too…
Room 7: the glow suite 🔮
This room is lit by black lights. Every decoration, the sheets and tiles are meant to glow. The walls are covered in swirly paint designs, the sheets are patterned and the tiles have mirrored chips in them so the whole room has a fun, funky glow to it! You’re encouraged to wear glow rings!! And glowing condoms are provided for free, they’re in a bucket buy the door! What could be more fun than a glow room???
Scramouche is a big fan of this room! It reminds him of an arcade or roller rink, which were some of his favorite places when he was younger. Ajax likes this room cause he thinks having a glow dick is funny. What an idiot lmao
Room 8: the sea suite 🌊
Like the glow suite, this room is relatively dark. However, projections of water and fish are all over the ceiling and walls. You and your bunny will both look stunning in the calming, blue light. There are faint sounds of the waves being played throughout the room, the sheets are blue silk, the floors are sparkly blue tile. The original plan was to have a water bed in here but Ninnguang realized that would be a poor investment 0-0 not everyone chooses to be gentle and nothing would kill the mood faster than popping the waterbed you’re fucking on 0-0
Dain’s favorite room by far. He loves the sound of the ocean and blue is his favorite color! Being bathed in royal blue together…Ah…Yes, this is nice
Room 9: the star suite ⭐️
The star suite is similar to the sea suite except this one has projections of galaxies and stars all over the place. The bed is in the center of the room and is in the shape of a circle. The sheets are silky smooth and soft music plays in the background. The black, glittery tiles are cool beneath your feet and the purple glow of the room is soothing as much as it is beautiful. You look so pretty in the purple light with projected stars twinkling on your skin <3 after you two are finished, you can lay on your back and watch for shooting stars
Xiao’s favorite room…He’s a bit sappy. He enjoys watching the stars with his customers after finishing, laying back to catch his breath, looking over at you to see you covered in stars. That’s a view that’ll never get old. Dain also likes this room, he does a lot of stargazing at home so this is relaxing to him too :)

2018 is over and I feel compelled to write a retrospective of sorts, but since I don’t feel like talking about myself I’m gonna talk about Every Anime (Series) I Watched in 2018. Each one comes with a numerical rating out of 10 and a short blurb of what I thought about it.
Recovery of an MMO Junkie - 9/10 - Incredibly sweet and heartfelt, with mature adult characters who act as such. Drama and comedy both are mined from real issues rather than petty miscommunication, and is all the more compelling for it.
Land of the Lustrous - 10/10 - A delightfully unique setting with an enrapturing story and fantastically constructed characters. The moments of levity and sweetness only serve to make the deeply engrained sadness and loneliness more poignant. The CGI animation is shockingly gorgeous, and a triumph of the medium.
Kino’s Journey: The Beautiful World (2018) - 5/10 - Certainly entertaining in spots, but ultimately rings rather hollow. Not really an improvement on the original in any respect.
Princess Principal - 8/10 - An absolutely gorgeous setting brimming with atmosphere and style, and a fun ensemble cast. The series-wide arc is a little hard to follow or understand, but each individual episodic plot is really enjoyable and engaging.
The Vision of Escaflowne - 8/10 - A well-built fantasy that’s occasionally ridiculous but never not fun. The new dub is really slick and helps the series go down nice and smooth.
A Place Further Than the Universe - 10/10 - Extraordinarily sweet, earnest and heartfelt. Deftly written, smartly directed, and masterfully executed. I cried really hard, a lot.
Tsuredure Children - 8/10 - Cute, ridiculous, and eminently relatable. If you’ve ever had a crush, you’re bound to identify with at least one character in this series.
From the New World - 5/10 - Had a glimmer of potential, but mostly ended up fake deep, poorly paced, and fucking ugly to look at. The more I thought about this series the less I realized I enjoyed it.
The Ancient Magus’ Bride - 5/10 - An extraordinarily promising start that’s disappointingly squandered by wildly inconsistent tone, static plots, nonsensical character arcs, excessive cliffhangers, and hollow stakes.
Princess Tutu - 10/10 - An expertly built deconstruction of fairy tales as well as a sweeping, gorgeous love note to ballet, classical music, and romantic storybook heroism. Wonderfully intricate plotting and stunning character work, a true gem.
Kaiba - 8/10 - Brilliantly unique and emotionally engrossing, if not a bit obscure and hard to follow at times. You never have, and probably never will again, see an anime quite like this.
Girls’ Last Tour - 7/10 - Deeply atmospheric and sometimes quite poignant, but also dreadfully, awfully, agonizingly slow.
Haven’t You Heard? I’m Sakamoto - 9/10 - A smooth and even mix between laughable absurdity and actual real emotional stakes. Somehow, I feel like I learned something about myself.
Megalobox - 8/10 - Briskly paced and action-packed, but by far the biggest draw is a classic 90s aesthetic reminiscent of pre-digital legends like Cowboy Bebop. This series lives and breathes style.
Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These - 6/10 - Would have the potential to be interesting if it wasn’t so hollow and boring. I wanted to get more engaged in the politics of this complicated war, but the plot is held at arms length and the characters are more like walking philosophy textbooks than actual people. That said, the ship designs are pretty cool.
Hinamatsuri - 10/10 - Sweet, pure-hearted, and gut-bustingly funny. Any moment I wasn’t laughing until my sides hurt, I was near to tearing up from actually caring about these characters so much. Each episode was a joy and I loved every second of it.
Golden Kamuy (S1) - 7/10 - Absurd, charming, and goofy, with a surprising amount of gore. Seems to care more about food than plot, but I’m kind of into it.
Revolutionary Girl Utena - 9/10 - Brilliantly dense, symbolic, and metaphorical. Sometimes hard to understand, sometimes hard to watch, but always excellent.
Dragon Pilot: Hisone & Masotan - 7/10 - Gorgeously animated and undeniably charming, but still a little awkward, garbled, and uncomfortable at times. The most earnest vore anime I’ve ever watched.
Steins;Gate 0 - 4/10 - A total, utter, crushing disappointment. Follows up a spectacular prequel with a nonsensical, contrived plot, inaccurate characters, and piss-poor visuals. This series is only carried by its relationship to the original. I will never trust again.
Princess Jellyfish - 7/10 - Charming, varied characters populating an unfulfilling narrative.
The Big O - 6/10 - Plenty of goofy, stylish fun, but slowly devolves into an inscrutable, incomprehensible mess. R. Dorothy Wayneright is the best part of this series by far. Roger Smith is a louse.
Aggretsuko - 7/10 - Fun and relatable, if a bit simple.
TOP 3
3. Hinamatsuri - This series came totally out of left field for me. I usually don’t emotionally respond to comedies very well but this one somehow hit all the right buttons. None of the humor was mean-spirited or put anyone down, the situations were absurd but didn’t cripple me with secondhand embarrassment, and on top of it all I really started to care about the cast. I wish I could get surprised like this more often.
2. Land of the Lustrous - As you can tell if you’ve been following me at all recently, this series has been absolutely consuming me from the moment I watched it. The plot is gripping and excellently paced, and I don’t know if I’ve ever been invested in another main character quite as much as Phos. It’s plenty easy to get wrapped up in thinking about the plot and the character arcs and the meta, but then when I go back and watch the series again I’m shocked by how good it is on a technical level, too. The CG animation is beyond gorgeous and the technical grace of each scene, the pacing, the colors, the music, the character animation, the voice acting, are all stellar. If this anime had more of an ending it would absolutely be my number 1 pick, but for now I just have to read the manga (AS SHOULD YOU, YOU COWARDS. IT’S EVERY BIT AS GOOD AS THE ANIME).
1. Princess Tutu - I, like many people, I think, reacted with derision at the title of this series, but by the time I was done I was completely blown away, and every time I thought about it more I was even more shocked. Every inch of this series shows some of the smartest construction I’ve ever seen in fiction, every layer is filled with stylistic flourish, brilliant writing, and metatextual commentary. You can dig as deep as you want and Princess Tutu will always have something to offer you. It’s been less than a year, I’ve already watched it twice, and I’m still discovering new things about it. A story this brilliant would be a once in a lifetime experience on its own, but Tutu is fulfilling on the surface level, too. Even if you’re not diving deep into what the series means you can still be just as enraptured by the characters. Fakir probably has the best redemption arc this side of Prince Zuko, and I could sing the praises of every other major cast member. And the music, the music! I was doomed from the start the moment I heard both The Nutcracker and Pictures at an Exhibition in the score. Princess Tutu takes some of the greatest masterpieces of western art music and builds off them, creating a sense of atmosphere as deep and vast and dramatic as the finest opera or ballet could ever be. Princess Tutu is one of the greatest works of fiction I’ve ever consumed, and absolutely the best I’ve watched this year.
BOTTOM THREE
3. From the New World - Immediately after I stopped watching this series I actually sort of thought I’d liked it, and I think the reason for this is because From the New World tries its very best to engage in ideas a bit deeper and more ambiguous than a lot of other anime do. But the more I thought about it, the more I disliked this series. Everything about the plot was confusing and off-putting, I didn’t find the characters particularly charming, and perhaps most of all, this series is butt-ugly. It might have a high score of MAL. but my advice is to give this series a hard pass.
2. The Ancient Magus’ Bride - I wanted to like this series so fucking bad. I fell in love with the prequel OVA and waited anxiously for each new installment to come out. I even bought tickets to my local Artsy Fartsy Theater to see the first three episodes when the screened there. And I liked them! Finally, an anime engaged in Celtic and English mythology, some of my favorites, and a protagonist with a truly gripping internal struggle. I was certain from the very first moment that this series would sit in my Top 10 list, and that Chise would be one of my favorite protagonists ever. And then it... didn’t happen. As the episodes unfolded I was treated to a series that had no idea how to establish or maintain stakes, how to relate its two main characters to each other, or how to use the wealth of mythology it was referencing and drawing from. How am I supposed to care when Chise gets stabbed in the chest every 2 episodes and then just kind of shrugs it off for the sake of drama? How am I supposed to be interested in the mythology when it’s all just watered-down fantasy archetypes with giant boobs? Don’t even get me started on the main villain. I feel very betrayed by this series and honestly I’m still bitter.
1. Steins;Gate 0 - This series is as much a lesson in betrayal as Ancient Magus’ Bride, but I think this one stings worse because it’s preceded by Steins;Gate, and anime I love dearly. I sincerely believe that the original Steins;Gate is one of the best anime ever produced, and this sequel struggles to live up to even a single aspect of it. As it began I was hopeful- I liked the darker tone, I liked the idea of a story within a failed timeline. But as I kept watching, I realized something awful: I was bored. All of the charm and intrigue was gone. The characters were all acting different, all looked different (why are all the girls wearing skintight winter coats? Why have their chests all inflated three sizes??), and there was no impetus for the plot. Steins;Gate was driven by simple goals; in the first half, it was to build a time-leap machine. In the second half, it was to save Mayuri. In Steins;Gate 0 the impetus is to... watch Okabe be sad. Hope he gets less sad. There’s nothing to keep the plot moving, and this listlessness was so overwhelming that the random bits of unforeshadowed action and unprecedented (for this franchise) violence felt cheap and confusing after the doldrums we just sat through. By the time the plot finally, finally, picks up towards the final quarter of the series, the damage is done. I don’t care anymore, I can’t figure out what’s going on, and I’m just so done with a franchise I used to love. One day I’ll go back and rewatch the original Steins;Gate and remind myself why I cared so much, but for now I’m nursing wounds. If you say the name “Kagari” in my presence, I’ll probably blitz the fuck out.
Here’s to a good 2019!

Chad Nathan is back on the scene with a brand new studio single: First Place.
A stunning new release with a modern sound and a catchy feel.
January 2021: Chad Nathan is a hip-hop artist based in Walterboro, South Carolina. His sound has a distinctive feel, which sets the bar higher in terms of genre definitions and sonic aesthetics. Going for a hard-hitting, yet melodic and catchy sound, Chad managed to capture a distinctive and one-a-kind sound that’s personal and hard-hitting.
Chad’s most recent release, First Place, is a perfect example of his sonic vision and aesthetics. This production is balanced, direct and forward-thinking, with a sound that feels refreshingly modern, yet organic and natural like a classic from the golden age of hip-hop. In an industry where many musicians seem to follow the same age-old cliches, it is refreshing to come across an artist who uses music as a mean of self-expression, connecting with the audience on a much deeper level.
In addition to that, this song is particularly excellent when it comes to its production, making for a focused and dynamic sound. The instrumental track is perfectly balanced, allowing the vocals to really stand out and pop to the forefront of the mix. There are many contributing factors that make the sound truly excellent: partly, it is due to the expertly crafted mix, and partly due to the clever arrangements and spontaneous performance. This release is a combination of passion, focus and vision, and it combines instinctive artistry with true technical expertise, bridging the gaps between the best of both worlds. This release channels the spirit of authentic modern hip-hop, while exploring the genre under a different perspective. Personality is definitely the keyword here, and Chad will  definitely win you over with his timeless charisma and ability to connect with listeners on a much deeper level.
The track has a lot of energy to it, and more importantly, the artist’s performance is nothing short of awesome. His vocal style is dynamic and vibrant, bringing so much focus to each line. It's not only about his singing ability, but also about calibrating each verse with some amazing lyrics. What really makes this song special is the fact that there is somewhat of an atmospheric twist to the beat, which adds a more atmospheric dimension to the sound of this track. The drum element is that classic modern 808 vibe, which adds so much power and definition. The low end has a distinctive thump to it, which adds a lot of weight and energy to the song. The hi-hats cut through the mix so seamlessly and they really make the rhythm stand out with a more upbeat sound. In addition to that, the snare is very fat and forward, with a nice midrange crunch that adds a snappy feeling to its sound. The vocals are also very well-processed, with some innovative pitch effects and some great echo sections that really add more to the power and definition of this song. Chad knows how to ramp up the intensity of this track with the dynamics of this excellent composition, and he gives the audience a really good insight into his creativity and flow. His sound really makes me think of some of the greatest artists on the scene today, as well as the masters of the contemporary neo-trap sound.
I would definitely recommend listening to this particular release if you enjoy the sound of artists such as Post Malone, Juice WRLD, Lil Wayne, XXXTENTACION, Trippie Redd, Mac Miller and others. The variety in this production is really killer, and if this track is any indication, we are sure that Chad Nathan is going to be onto something truly exceptional this year, and beyond. These are strange times for musicians, so it’s awesome to see that there are artists like Chad, who are keen on making things happen and still able to release some beautiful, high-quality music that matters.
Find out more about Chad Nathan, and do not miss out on “First Place,” which is currently available on the web.

The Autopsy Of Jane Doe
Tumblr media
‘The Autopsy Of Jane Doe’ was one I was really eager to watch, when I caught wind of it’s existence, everyone was making a fuss about how good they found it and how they terrified they were while watchig it.
I’m not saying I’ve got a higher scare factor than other people, but none of the jumpscares (all very cliché if you aks me) worked on me.
It’s perhaps sounding like I’m about to butcher the film, but not really. I didn’t think it was bad I was simply quite dssapointed, that a film that in my eyes had the potential to become a great one didn’t become a great one.
Sure the film’s got a somewhat, inevitbale, inherent creep factor: an autopsy, two men standing over a woman’s, completely intact, gorgeous, naked body...
But to infuse with creepiness you’ve gotta do more, sure seeing them extract flesh and whatnot is gross but it isn’t creepy.
As I’ve mentioned there’s quite a bit of jumpscares, but they are all so terribly cliché.
Still ‘The Autopsy Of Jane Doe’ is a pretty film. Certainly one that’s pleasing to the eyes, with an aesthetic, that’s at times at the same time colorful, bright, light, yet dark and heavy.
The film is difficult to place: some call it a haunted hause film with the morgue starring as the haunted hause. For me personally, it didn’t work as a horror film, of any kind; I wasn’t scared once and as I’ve mentioned I found it quite cliché.
It actually would be the kind of film I’d hate normally, an orginal concept is not enough to make the film work, it’s got to make a bit of sense, even some films that supposedly “don’t make sense”, make sense, in the sense that they are purposely intending to not make sense...
And that was part of the problem I had with the film: it’s plot is certainly orginal, but once your start to think it through there is certainly stuff that seemingly doesn’t fit into the overall puzzle.
What kept me watching then? Well there’s two reasons. First of all there’s the mystery that even appears in the title. We’re presented to a Jane Doe: a beautiful woman, she looks like not a hair on her head was ever touched.
We’re eager to find out who the mystery woman was and what happened. It reminds me of something Edgar Allan Poe once wrote:
“The death of a beautiful woman is undoubtedly the most poetic subject in the world.” As misogynistic as this may sound, the genre of horror has always drawn from the destruction of fragility, of beauty, as one of its themes.
‘The Autopsy of Jane Doe’ takes up this idea: a father and son work in the morgue and receive the corpse of a young woman at the last minute. No identification, no fingerprints in the system: nothing. She’s a stranger. A Jane Doe: in America, a Jane Doe is known as the corpse of a woman who has not been identified in any way before arriving at the autopsy.
The scene of the crime is incomprehensible utterly puzzling; What was that girl doing there? What was the cause of death? When did she die, at the hands of whom? Why is she still bleeding, why does she have rigor mortis, why the pallor, and those eyes? What have they done to her?
She’s young, she’s beautiful and there’s something unearhtly, not quite right about her. She’s also one of the most alive looking corpses I’ve ever seen in a film.
This part was initially what kept me watching the clichés annoyed me, but I still wanted to know she was. The mystery part at least was well done.
Then there was another reason: the pyscholigcal layer underneath the horror. Right after my viewing of the film I read an interesting take on it. It starts with the words: “men don’t understand women.” It’s a cliché and actually one I find quite vulgar.
Just because you don’t understand how someone works all the time (I as a woman, and I’m sure plenty of others, certainly don’t understand men at all times)...
It doesn’t mean, we can’t feel for the other, love the other, be kind, and try to understand when we don’t understand. That’s what the film is about, trying to understand.
In the film that cliché of “men don’t understand women”, is spun around into something else: it’s more a question of can they understand, when it’s absoultely crucial, when the woman’s life may depend on it.
Bot the men, (the father and the son that are perfoming the autopsy on Jane Doe) are not evil, they were simply blind, oblivious to the female suffering in front of them.
The titular Jane Doe, reminds the father of his dead wife. He can’t find out what’s wrong with Jane Doe, even after he’s scratcher her surface and has quite literally had a look at her inside.
Neither the father or the son understand the woman in front of them, and when they do it’s too late... too late like it was once for Jane Doe herself, that’s a too late that came from incomprehension and fear. The two men slowly become afraid of the woman.
The father loved his wife, he loves the grupmy cat, Stanley that was hers still, even when he says: “ that thing’s getting meaner by the day.”Because he’s the only thing she has left him. But he lost her, because he couldn’t help her. She slipped from his fingers right in front of him.
His wife suffered from depression, until the day came she didn’t want to suffer anymore. And he never saw it, all he saw was a bright and happy wife, he had no idea what she was thinking. He was blind to his wife’s pain, and expresses that he would have hepled her if he’d known...
The point if there’s any to the enterwtined tragedies is that both women could have lived if they had been understood, or if they had at least been questioned, listened to.
That’s what I saw in there, but you know maybe I drank too much while watching the film, or I’ve been looking into it too much. I enjoyed that pscycholigcal layer in there, it reflects on both grief and depression, and communication between men and women, and emotional and pschylogical differences.
And I think if they had worked that out more, instead of trying so hard be scary it would have worked better. You can’t be a mystery, a horror film and a psychological drama at once.
You can blend but you’ve got to clearly flesh one genre out. And I think in the film they focused on the wrong one.
So the film was a weird beast for me, on the one hand, I’d like to say I didn’t like it, but that’s not true. I really liked some aspects but I was dissapointed with the  potential of some things, and that they never were given a chance.
One of the things that saved the film for me was the acting, with other actors of lesser calibre I would have turned it off.
Both men: The father and the son are portrayed beautifully, they’re not all that fleshed out, but they’re character that feel alive, and human. Flawed and imperfect.
They’ve got a heart and a soul and we can like them and care about them. And it’s due to the fact that Brian Cox (the father) and and Emile Hirsch (the son) that both stay natural, they are calm and undramatic, at least until the horror starts.
It’s just a nice relationship between a father and son that love each other, realistically portrayed, their connection feels real and genuine.
It also does something interesting it allows both men to be vulnerable in the way men aren’t often allowed to be in film, and it’s all because of Jane Doe. She reminds them of a woman both loved, for one of them she was his wife for the other his mother.
The son wants to talk about her, or wants to encourage his father to talk about her, becasuse he sense that his father would like to do so. However he says he doesn’t want to.
Her presence is the big metaphorical, elephant in te room. Both feel relived and calmer, after they have adressed it after they have talked about her and these monents are realistically toucing; it feels as if both men are liberated offa weight, like they are forgiven.
Perhaps the fact that the father was so good at bottling up emotions, is also what prevented him from seeing his wife was doing the same.
But the person that outplayed both men here, is the titualr woman. Olwen Catherine Kelly, plays dead. She’s a dead woman. Yet not often has the presence of one been so commanding.
There’s somehing quietly menacing about her. Yet again, she’s dead...
Olwen must have had an iroon discipline. Her performance is a quiet, elegant, and graceful one, but one that’s scary and unsettling, as I’ve said one that’s commanding, one your is automatically drawn to.
Olwen’s face initially looks like that of angel and ultimately fittingly like that of an evil witch. She goes from vulnerabilty and tranquilty, peacefulness, to adapting a look of arrogance and a malignant superirity.
She looks as if her corpse is ready to rise from the dead and challenge both men, she is in two words, hauting, terrifying and perhaps fittingly devillishy beautiful while she’s at it. And Olwen did it all with just her face.
As I mentioned visually ‘Jane Doe’ is stunning. It remninded me in some ways even a bit of ‘True Detective’, or even ‘True Blood’ (of which I adore the first two seasons) both shows which I didn’t love, but of which I loved the cinematography.
The film takes place in a small, nondescript town in the American south, somewhere in Virginia and it’s fittingly lush and gothic. It looks pretty and creepy, it’s got both light, vibrant and dim lightning going on.
It’s aestehtic when it comes to lightning and colours, is I think the kind of colours you’d see if you walked in New Orleans at night. And that city has got an aesthtic I dig.
The soundtrack does do something great. It uses creepy and atmospheric music to set the tone of a horror film. But it also does someting quite brilliant, it integrates the music as a part of it’s characters life.
To establish their daily rouitne, father and son, or rather son, has a penhcant for heavy rock music and a habit of listening to rock while working on a corpse, they’ve also got a very dark humour while they converse to go along.
It’s small things like these that infuse a film of personality. But I am still of the opinion that ‘Jane Doe’ lacks some of that. It could have been better if it had, had a clearer view on what it wanted to be exactly. Still I think it’s one I’ll revisit. If only for it’s atmosphere and it’s excellent performances.

“seat-of-you-pants, come-from-behind wins”
UM
-
“ok so it wasnt my finest hour. sue me.”

-
“yep! completed the full two years!”
wow so i guess the Incredible, Amazing-Special and Highly Spiritual Kooraheeneese training regimen is the equivalent of an associate degree.
-
“the high priest practically begged me to do it!”
mayas going to jail and he's the killer isn't he.
-
i love that theyre like “lady keera isn't like the deities we think of from back home; she was a really real person!!”
and its like
ah
awkward for jesus.
-
I WANT PICTURES OF LADY KEERA! (slams table)
-
“sightings of her go back 2 years!”
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
-
“you think some regular cosplayer could take on a bunch of guys in costume alone????”
well i mean essentially every super hero is just that so
“thats why she's real!!”
ok, wearing a cloak and kicking a rebel in the balls now makes you a god. you heard it here first guys
-
something about all of this just makes me rly uncomfortable and i cant put my finger on it
-
“can we leave my hair out of this?”
once again phoenix worries more about his hair than... well, being called edgeless i guess
-
maya’s wearing a robe and she punched a lawyer in the face... i’d say that gets her canonized at least.
-
♫ he's got spurs, that jingle jangle jingle (jingle jangle) ♫
-
“Look! Its Acolyte Zeh’lot!”
me, wincing from the pain of the pun but also yelling: ITS FUCKIN AANG HLY SHIT
-
phoenix wright’s new fun personality gimmicks include: destroying foreign monarchies and having Unexplained Broken Spine Syndrome
I’d like to think capcom beat him with a gold club while reminding him that most of the oldest living attractive-enough-to-be-a-protagonist people in Ace Attorney are like 40
-
i dont know why but the image of a few brightly coloured monks hauling phoenix’s unconscious ass down a mountain is making me wheeze like nobodys business
-
ahlbi: miss mayas been arrested!
phoenix: (completely unshocked) what
-
(brutal murder has just occurred)
praying man: do you think we should get up??
praying man #2: nah were just part of the background.
-
ema failed the forensics exam because she continually took fingerprints without consent. confirmed
-
phoenix: i never thought id have to do another trial where the defence was unwelcome
you'd have to quit to achieve that kind of peace, phoenix
-
“he's calm and kind and almost always has a smile on his face”
correction; he’s haughty, condescending and almost always has a holier-than-thou smirk on his face.
-
theres so much cursing and exploding into flames in Kooraheen.
-
‘iii guess thiiiiis is what its like to live in a deeeeeeply religious society, huuuuuh’
oi
i dont know how to feel about this
-
poor baby faces his least fav things; cold and high
-
oh crap not figure skater princess
oh dear god. this is ominous as fuck. phoenix is just like “that looks like...” and then its just. one huge EXAMINE button followed by her being the only choice.
I'm feeling deeply uncomfortable
-
“we know the killer is one of your own!”
HER ANCESTOR INVENTED–– AGGHHHNNN never mind
“in my country suspects are innocent until proven guilty”
we’ve all said it once and i’ll say it again
bullshit, capcom
-
“phony baloney”
-
“tweedledum and tweedledee did a number on her impression of foreigners”
what the fuck does that mean
who the fuck is he referring to
this is the tuna boat all over again
-
“who taught you to demonize a whole group of people anyway”
just sounds really stupid when the “people” in question are lawyers.
-
...is this the kooraheen version of (positive adjective) people
its marginally better than the regular SOJ (positive adjective) people
-
oh lady Kee’ra is katniss everdeen. she's even got the mockingjay and everything!
-
this reminds me a lot of Bridge
even figure skater princess is a bit like assistant!Franziska. but less amusing.
she’s rather helpful though, to a disgusting scum sucking lawyer like me.
-
idk Kurain village felt a lot more atmospheric than Kooraheen does. I’m not quite sure why... Might’ve been the music (which was awesomely spine-tingling)
but also something about just... the general feel? Like the strict rules of Kurain village felt more claustrophobic and stifling than the almost cartoonish seeming Super Prayer Aesthetic of Kooraheen. (who knows; maybe there are countries that spend 15 hours straight in prayer but idk them)
maybe Kurain village felt more realistic in that a single town housing nothing but mediums seems within the boundaries of reality, but an entire country completely based upon it does not.
Kurain felt like a small part of a bigger picture, whereas i feel like Kooraheen is a big picture with nothing much in it.
-
when is a medium-based case not a locked-room mystery???
-
cleared away snow... a broken lantern... gosh!!! THAT... REMIND ME OF SOMETHING
also phoenix taking more pictures is [100 emoji]
-
“almost... boggles the mind...”
he didnt seem scared but his vision did blur
maybe he got
high
haha h ah hah hah ha
-
a full body poncho is a great fighting outfit
-
i wonder if spider-kee’ra is a fella in disguise
-
“I wonder if he has amnesia”
either youre sherlock fucking holmes or that was rly forced. he said like 2 words to you.
-
characters who look like theyre gonna shoot u thus far:
-Precious bobby
-dirty hobo eating lizards
-
mind reading lizard eating hobo
-
hes a power ranger!!!
-
you ask this man, phoenix wright, to move on???
you fool
-
“all my tools were confiscated at the airport”
oh except this HUGE SPRAY BOTTLE OF LIQUID
-
ema: (backhandedly mentions klavier)
me: (clenching fist with a tear in my eye) someday
-
“Who’d have thought you’d get caught up in something like this? And so far from home?”
phoenix pls
-
“Besides, I thought you’d be used to being the usual suspect by now!”
[wheezes] that was like 3 lines before this unholy contradiction
-
(cries) the bars are so wide he can hold his pwecious bffs hand thru them
like. if he wanted to.
also the music is surprisingly nice and atmospheric. very subtle and gentle and not an atonal mess like the investigation theme.
-
oh fuck i forgot you were here rayfa
-

-
“ive never eaten anything better in my life”

OddKidOut is making waves with his newly debuted Solstice EP on OWSLA — and it’s about time you heard what all the hype is about.
The destined-to-be-producer grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia, making music from a very young age. By 11, he was already enlisted in School of Rock. At only 13, he began touring locally as a drummer in a band. It wasn’t long before his passion for music snowballed into an art form, which eventually caught the attention of none other than Skrillex.
When OddKidOut set out make an OWSLA-oriented sample pack, what he ended up with was so much more. Over the course of a few months, he produced a full EP driven by flavors of the label’s diverse discography, including Skrillex & Poo Bear‘s “Would You Ever,” Skrillex & Team EZY‘s “Pretty Bye Bye,” Yogi‘s “Money On My Mind” with Juicy J, and Tennyson‘s “Cry Bird” and “your face tastes like my happy place.”
As these selects from OWSLA’s stunning collection are sampled and reimagined track-by-track, OddKidOut finds his stride with moody, atmospheric, relatable, and familiar sounds. But, most of all, as you’ll hear, his release is incredibly and undeniably unique.
So, how did he go from Philly-based beatmaker to LA’s freshest breakout talent? We’ll let him fill you in…
How did you first link up with Skrillex and OWSLA?
So, yeah, I was working in LA in 2016 with Red Light Management. I was interning there for school and one of the assistants followed me on Instagram — and was like, “Hey, Skrillex follows you.” I was like, “What?” I didn’t know. When I went back and realized he did, I sent him a message. He responded a day later and was saying nice things about me. We stayed in contact and he’d invite me to random sessions, but he was living in LA so I never got to meet him.
Then, this past summer in New York I was living in Brooklyn for a little bit — he had a show somewhere in Manhattan and he invited me. I met him there. A month later, I went to LA for a show. Instead of going home, he was like, “Stay here.” And, I ended up living there for about seven months with him and OWSLA.
What do you think was on your Insta that caught his attention?
I think what got his attention was likely my finger drumming stuff on the Maschine that I use. And probably the way I chop samples, because he also wanted me to make sample packs. Probably a mixture of the finger drumming stuff and my style of blending hip hop and EDM.
How did you formulate the idea for this multilayered EP?
When I was there — maybe three or four days into my staying in the house he put me up at — he was like, “Yo, you should try to chop up some of the tracks from the OWSLA discography.” Because, we didn’t have to worry about reaching out to other people to clear it, since it’s all in-house. It kinda started as, “Hey, can you make cool samples? But use our shit.”
I ended up taking it upon myself to do more than just making a sample pack. I started making them into tracks without really telling anyone. After a month or two I had a couple tracks ready and I started sending them to him. One of them he really liked. Then, eventually, five months later I had four tracks. I went in studio with [Skrillex] and he was like, “Yo, let’s release it.”
So, with the entire OWSLA catalog, you have a lot to choose from…
What drew you to those four tracks and accompanying samples?
It was crazy because I’m used to sampling vinyls, like funk records. This was EDM. Electronic music. I had really never sampled any of that before. The first couple of tracks I made were just god-awful. I wasn’t finding my balance with it. Then, I stumbled across Tennyson and some of their discography. They have a lot of soulful, not super EDM-y driven tracks that helped me figure out how to combine what I’d assume OWSLA is. Once I broke through that layer with Tennyson it kind of opened up everything else. I felt myself learning and getting more creative. The project, you can feel and hear the process of me changing my style and learning how to do new things with every track.
How involved were you with the music videos?
I was well involved. I’d never directed or even had — this is my first real label-oriented project that I’ve ever released, so it was definitely a learning experience for me. With the music videos, I wanted to portray them as stories fitting within the budget and also the overall aesthetic of matching my brand with OWSLA’s brand. I think we found a good medium where it was happy and beneficial. We spent four days shooting all four videos so every day was a jam packed day. It was really cool. They were super fun shoots!
When I watched the music videos through, I felt a lot of friendship and human connection, not only with others, but with your inner-self…
Is there an overall message with this collection?
I think you hit it right on the money. I’m not sure this is their slogan, but I know OWSLA always says, “Good people, good times.” I’ve always lived my life the same way, keeping good people around me and having as much fun as possible. I think the whole OddKidOut brand says a similar thing. It’s like, be confident in yourself. Be weird, because that’s cool. And don’t worry about what is cool, just do you. Those two things go hand in hand when you put them next to each other. I felt that with the videos and the songs.
There are some hidden meanings behind each of the tracks. For example, “Six Years” is called “Six Years,” because when I moved out to LA that was pretty much was the marking end of a six-year relationship I had with this girl. I don’t think the public would know that, unless I say it. Every track has a meaning on the outside that most people would get, but for me each track represents something about my journey in LA and how my life changed.
“Six Years,” ending that relationship. “Getaway,” which was getting away from what I knew and what was comfortable. Now I’m starting to meet new people and do new things and now I’m in this LA bubble. “Napa Street” is like ok I’ve been in LA for three or four months. Now, I’m at home. “Napa Street” is the street of one of my houses that I have in the city [Philadelphia]. I actually made the track in that house with the artist featured on it. So, that was me bringing Philly back into my environment here in LA, because it’s a pretty different vibe. “MIND/$” [Mind Over Money] is kind of like, cool — I’m feeling really established in both cities. I feel like a combo of these two now. I’m progressing my career, but I can’t forget the art in my soul and my mind are more important than money or fame or stuff like that. Philly is kind of like real shit and LA is industry shit. Both are super important, but you got to be able to tell the difference between the two.
We see a lot of animal friends of OWSLA featured in the music videos…
Do you have any pets?
I have two dogs. One is a Vizsla and the other is a Havanese I think. So, a big brown dog and a small white dog. The Vizsla is Bacon and the small one is Violet, but I always hated that name. My mom chose it. I just started calling her Puppy and she’s 12 years old now and everyone still calls her Puppy. Bacon and Puppy! [laughs]
What are your earliest memories of music?
Earliest music memories are like 6, 7, 8 years old. I started playing in classic rock and metal bands. I had a PlayStation One I think or a PS2 and I had Tony Hawk’s Underground. I heard this track, “Low Class Conspiracy” by Quasimoto. That was Madlib’s alter-ego, so super hip hop shit. But, I remember I went in and changed the soundtrack to only play hip hop tracks.
When I was probably just starting high school, I actually heard Skrillex’s remix of “Cinema.” Which, I remember my mom would drive me everywhere and when she’d get out of the car I’d stay in and play it as loud as possible. I was always listening to different types of music, but I think in particular as crazy as it seems, Skrillex is what got me into electronic music. To be so closely associated with him now is a dream.
What do you hope people can get out of your Solstice EP?
I hope that it’s unique. I hope that people feel that it’s familiar and that it’s fu. They can dance to it, listen to it. Listen to it when they’re sad to make them happy, or listen to it when they’re sad to keep feeling sad. I hope it’s cathartic, where people can go back and listen to it to feel good, or feel any feeling that they want. What’s most important to me is being unique. I hope some of the music stands out and also holds its weight as time goes on.

When I want to take a break from my riotous routine, I check for some place that would not only inspire me to explore but also provide me with a home away from home that would pamper me endless and all within my budget.
I found exactly that at Mukteshwar this time, Mukteshwar is a pleasing destination in the Nainital district of Uttarakhand. Mukteshwar sits high in the Kumaon Hills at an altitude of 2286 meters, 51 Km from Nainital and 343 Km from Delhi. It is famous for its scenic view and peaceful atmosphere. As we were heading upwards we could see glistening mountains and stellar view left me gasping. After reading reviews on TRIP ADVISOR we had booked CASA DREAM, The Resort much in advance.
The very first view of our resort, CASA DREAM is just WOW. The hotel is nestled amidst stunning snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas which elevated my spirits and gave me a sense of serenity.
The lobby is cozy and gives you the feel of a luxurious English colonial house. My eyes wandered around to soak in the beauty of every inch as I sipped my welcome drink. I was amazed to see the hand-painted ceiling of the lobby exhibiting the galaxy theme which is done by the owner Mr. Umesh Chopra himself disclosing the secret of how this resort has been aesthetically designed. My expectations rose as I tagged behind the hotel boy who carried my luggage.
I was pleasantly surprised to see an elevator at this height, installed for the convenience of Senior citizens and wheelchair-bound guests which displays the considerate and caring attitude of the resort concerning their guest.
The room was quite big, simple, and luxurious enough for me to feel pampered with all the amenities like a king sized bed, free bottled water, coffee/tea maker, free Wi-Fi, flat screen TV with all my favorite channel. The room had two large windows giving us a clear view of a lush green garden and breathtaking valley with the Himalayas as the backdrop. Curled up on a chair, sipping my first tea in the balcony with this incredible view, a feeling of tranquility flows into my body.
There are three types of rooms in this resort. THE MUD DELUXE DOUBLE room which can accommodate three people, THE DELUXE DOUBLE room which can house two adults and two children, and THE DELUXE DUPLEX which is the biggest and can accommodate six people including two children providing the guest with the lot of options to choose from. Bathrooms are smart and stylish providing us free organic toiletries which is my weakness. All the rooms in this resort have balconies so that no occupant is deprived of the beauty of this heaven.
The resort had arranged bonfire at one corner of the garden in the evening with light recorded music which further enhanced the beauty of the surrounding and relaxed us more. Hotel staffs were pleased to serve us our favorite drinks and snacks and were very observant of our needs. The resort is very thoughtful of each and everyone needs and so lots of indoor games have been arranged for the kids and the kids were thrilled to find an entire area explicitly for them which kept them engaged and occupied.
The dining hall was so spacious and beautifully decorated and could accommodate over a hundred people. I really loved the cute piano bar which serves classic cocktails, wines and various international labels, which can be savored with the overlooking garden and listening to live piano.
La Rose, a classic furnished restaurant within the hotel premises specializes in Indian and international cuisine, sports a drink bar and a separate kids’ menu for the comfort of the parents. Reservation can be done to enjoy a table and you can also avail room service within limited hours to enjoy your meal in the coziness of your room.
The resort manager invited us to try yoga classes in the morning. So, we all got up at sunrise and this quaint spot gave us a fabulous view of the valley, the first gorgeous sunlight on the snow-capped mountains and the cool breeze assured me of a rejuvenating stay and lot of surprises ahead.
After a quick yoga, we were asked if we were interested to trek up about 300 meters and see the table top mountain portion of their land. We were all very excited and I am a person who loves trekking as it uplifts my mood and gives me a sense of adventure. After 10-15 minutes’ walk, we reached a local residence, almost 100 years old made of mud but very neat and clean, making me feel as I have found a treasure after my adventure trail.
We were served tea and home-made cookies. It was interesting and very informative for us to interact with the locals, explore their kitchen, and discover ancient and scientific versions of houses in cold regions, especially during snow.
We continued our trekking and after a 5-minute walk, we reached a flat piece of land which gave us a complete 360-degree breathtaking view of Mukteshwar. Hotel staff informed us that they are preparing this area for a helipad which will be ready by 2019.
On our way back to resort, we were shown a small farming area where hotel staff grows their own organic vegetable and herbs for delicacies cooked in their kitchen revealing the secret of their mouthwatering dishes. It was time for breakfast and started trekking back to our resort still overwhelmed with all our experiences and I knew that best is yet to come.
We enjoyed our breakfast, got ready and set out to explore Mukteshwar. On our way to chauli ki Jali which is a famous tourist spot, we met a group of bikers, chatted with them about their experiences with a cup of tea in an authentic Indian cup(kullarh) at a local dhaba. They told us that they are on a 6days trip and taking a one night break in Mukteshwar in camps.
We reached Chauli ki Jali which is a paradise for all the adventurers and rock cliffs make this place ideal for activities like rock climbing, rappelling etc.
The hanging cliff makes it a spectacular location to view the great Himalayan range and Kumaon valley.
Our next location was Bhaalugaad waterfall, situated amidst of Mukteshwar forestand a beautiful trek of 3-4 km goes through the dense forest, mountain streams and rocks are to be covered to reach there. As it was a weekend we found a lot of rush there with people bathing, swimming and enjoying beautiful waterfall with crystal clear pond. We could actually go underneath waterfall which is bliss for nature lovers.
We stopped for lunch at a small local dhaba cum restaurant for lunch which we did not enjoy much and found a better alternative, our all-time favorite Maggie masala. We reached our resort and after taking a small nap, we decided to play cricket with kids which we seldom do because of our hectic schedules in the city. Hotel staff also joined us and it was a big competitive fight. We lost three balls as balls used to fly off into the valley and it was a difficult task not to hit a ball when you have so much space to enjoy. The night was rocking as the hotel had organized a DJ party for all the guests and after a long day, we all let our hair down and enjoyed the great music and dance till we were dead tired.
Next day we packed our bags and were ready to leave. We took plenty of family photographs to seize beautiful resort and magnificent Himalayan ranges to keep these lovely moments fresh with us until our next exciting trip.
On our way back we stopped at Bhimtal, a must stopover, enjoyed boating with kids, had snacks and tea at a nice local restaurant and a final nonstop drive to our home.
As the destinations, you visit matters a lot, same way a nice, comfortable and beautiful hotel makes your trips more pleasurable and unforgetful.
See you next time till a find another cozy and plush place to stay!!!

An Opulent Wedding at Centre for the Book, South Africa
This post An Opulent Wedding at Centre for the Book, South Africa first appeared on The Wedding Community Blog
Oh la la, I have something really special to share with you today. I love everything about Marina and Milan’s opulent Centre for the Book wedding in South Africa.
The couple chose to hold their wedding reception at the Cape Town venue due to their love of literature. This incredible Edwardian library building provided an amazing backdrop for their fabulous wedding, and the gorgeous domed atrium of the central reading room created the perfect setting.
The venue lent itself perfectly to their styling, with long banqueting tables covered with beautiful burgundy crushed velvet tablecloths adorned with candelabras, glassware and pretty flowers. I love that Marina and Milan gave each guest an old book, tied with a velvet ribbon; perfect for their concept.
The couple’s style influenced everything about this wedding. Marina wore beautiful embroidered floral shoes, which looked amazing with her stunning white column dress with plunging back detail from Carina Le Roux. She completed her bridal look with a marvellous over-sized bridal bouquet of burgundy blooms and loose foliage.
It’s not often you see bridesmaids in black (although I love this look) or wearing shirts, but this is exactly what Marina’s bridesmaids wore and it looks fabulous.
Our thanks go to Michelle Du Toit Photography for sharing these amazing pictures from Marina and Milan’s fabulous Centre for the Book wedding. Enjoy!
I Realised I Was In Trouble
“I had an eye on her when we acted together in our third year, but she made it clear that she wasn’t interested. The next year we were in a small class for our honours in acting. I was the only guy in the group so could pick who I wanted to act with. She was the best actress and I wanted an excuse to get her alone, so I chose her to act with.
“The play we were in had a few kissing scenes which I would usually act in just a little longer than necessary. After a lot of coffees and running lines together, she always made sure there was another person present for some irritating reason. I realised I was in trouble. I was really in love.
It Would Never Work
“One day she was coming to rehearsal in the pouring rain. I still remember she on a green jersey on with a long white dress underneath her costume. She looked up with her huge blue eyes and greeted me with a smile. I kind of cracked and told a friend who said he wouldn’t tell a soul – he told her in a matter of two days. Nothing is confidential in the Drama Department.
“A few days after she told me we had to talk. She said she knew I had feelings for her, our friend had told her, but it would never work and we had to finish the play professionally. She got a lot of attention when we went out dancing, so I knew my only ‘play’ with her would be to act as if I’m okay. I got up as if to walk away and said as nonchalantly as I could ‘I understand. Oh well, it was fun feeling this way’, even though my heart was breaking. I started walking away and I heard her say ‘Milan, wait!’ Then I knew, I had her.” – Milan
A Joining of Two Communities
“I’m really not into minimalism; my aesthetic motto is ‘more is more’. When I pictured our wedding I was hoping for something opulent where our guests would feel really special. We both come from families who serve the Lord and who God has been faithful to, so we wanted to celebrate that. I was very mindful of the fact that it wasn’t just us getting married – it was also a joining of two communities.
“We married at the NG Kerk Tafelberg. It’s such a beautiful building with the most amazing organ. Neither of us are members of the NG Church but they graciously allowed us to get married there. It was really special getting married in a church with such a rich history. They were very accommodating and lovely to work with.”
Truth Steampunk Cafe
“We decided to have our pre drinks at Truth Steampunk cafe across from the church as Truth, for us, is synonymous with modern Cape Town. They were fantastic and the guests loved the informal experience of grabbing a coffee and snacks before the really formal reception.
“We adore Cape Town and wanted to get married in the heart of the city. We regularly roam the city streets and wanted our guests to experience something of our love affair with the city by going on a mini adventure to the different venues.”
Centre for the Book Wedding Venue
“We chose the amazing venue Centre for the Book wedding venue for our reception. I’m a playwright and big reader, and Milan is also into comics, so the ‘centre for the book’ was a natural choice for us. The building is amazingly intimate yet still has the grandeur suited to a banquet. I wanted a medieval-esque banquet, and even chose the food to hint at this – lamb shanks etc. I would’ve liked a pig with an apple in its mouth but apparently they don’t do those any more – anyway, that’s the vibe we were going for.
“We served our guests gluhwhein as they entered as it was (supposed to be) the coldest day of the year. Even though I’m teetotal, gluhwhein is special to me as my family always has this when visiting the Grahamstown Arts Festival. My mom always jokingly says this was where I gave my first kick as a baby in her womb, and this was also one of the first places Milan and I went on a trip together with friends. He had a lot of gluhwhein, I had a lot of coffee. It was magic.
“We asked Sylvia Mdunyelva, our favourite jazz singer, to provide live music for us at the reception. She is a legend and it was an honour having her play at our wedding. The atmosphere with her playing was electric. We entered the reception to her rendition of ‘Pata Pata’.”
Antique Crockery and Meaningful Books
“My amazing mom sourced our crockery. I showed her a picture of what I wanted and she ran with it. A lot of it was pieces my gran collected; she adores antiques, as do I. When I was a little girl she always took me to antique shops and taught me about the cups, what made them valuable, and checking the rims to see if the edges still have all their gold on them. She couldn’t make it to the wedding, she has Dementia, but I know she would’ve loved all the colourful plates and cups.
“We wanted our guests to feel welcome and special, so we tried to choose a book which had some significant meaning to them as a gift. My mom and I roamed many second hand book stores to find one for each of the guests. We wrote their name cards on old library tags from inside books which I bought on eBay from England, and we wrote each guest a note on them.
“We chose minimal stationery as it was more cost-effective and greener. It was basically just one booklet which was handed out in church with all the info guests needed. The seating chart, menu, hymns, program, map, parking info etc was all in one place.”
Favourite Moments
“When I had 15 minutes alone with Marina in the Company Gardens. We watched the sun set behind Table Mountain on a park bench just after the photos were taken and before we entered the reception. A homeless man volunteered to be our guard (I don’t know what he was protecting us from). I loved being alone with her.” – Milan
“We had a black tie wedding. Even though a lot of guests complained, grovelled or threw tantrums, some of my favourite moments were when some of the guests would come and tell me about their special dress or suit. They had stories to tell about their outfits like ‘this was my gran’s’, and ‘my father wore this blazer on his first date with my mother’. Some even said ‘Look I wore velvet for you, Marina’. I love velvet. I felt so touched that everyone had worn their best to celebrate our wedding.
“Also, the moment at the very end was very special. Milan took my hand and said we had to go – there was an Uber waiting outside the venue – a real city wedding moment. It was incredible knowing I’m going home with him and I never have to say goodbye again. I still have to pinch myself sometimes.” – Marina
It’s Not Just About the Bride
“I’m religious so I’d say pray a lot as this helps you focus on what’s important. Also remember that it’s not true that it’s just about the bride – it’s about a lot of people coming together. If you expect it to be about a community you roll with it if there’s criticism, and you protect and value your relationships which have to last long after the day is done.
“That said, be nice, nod and say thank you, and then do exactly what you want. I ignored a lot of well meant advice about tablecloths, bridesmaid dresses and make-up, and I’m so glad I did. Some of my favourite elements in the wedding were things not everyone agreed on or where I was told ‘that’s not done on a wedding’. Use tradition if it has meaning, but if it doesn’t make sense to you then leave it! I didn’t throw my bouquet or garter, and we didn’t cut a cake. No one missed it. Those things didn’t make sense to me so I left them out.
“Speeches are my favourite part of a wedding. A lot of people tried to shorten the amount of speeches or said the bride shouldn’t speak. I ignored this and I’m so glad I did. I got to honour my parents and grandparents, and I got to make a mini love declaration to my husband. Why can’t girls do that? Basically, do what you want but in a nice way.”
The Best of Both Worlds
“We had a coordinator on the day who took over the week before. We didn’t want a full on planner as I was fine with organising everything beforehand and wanted to make sure we got the right look. I highly recommend this as it’s affordable and the best of both worlds. A venue like ours has a lot of logistics as everything needs to be outsourced, and a coordinator does all of the deliveries etc so you can relax before the big day.
“Finally, don’t choose vendors because they’re famous or cheap, but because they can execute the look you want. Take the trouble to talk to past clients and get advice from newlyweds. This helped us a lot. Also, if you want something specific, don’t be afraid to ask. Milan and his groomsmen’s outfits were very specific and we asked for exactly what we wanted. However, flowers are very important to me and I see florists as artists who shouldn’t be inhibited. Give vendors a good creative brief – I used a lot of paintings instead of flower pins – and don’t be too prescriptive. I think the same goes for your photographer. If they have to focus on getting a list of shots on your Pinterest board they may miss the moments Michelle captured so beautifully.”

How to Buy Casual Shirts for Men
Streetwear - assume australian streetwear brands Pharrell Williams or Kanye West - two icons of the streetwear look and two people who are persistently noted on any "best dressed" record. Opposite to some stereotypes related to hip-hop trend, streetwear these days, is a clear, tailored look, just with a special, laidback vibe than mainstream style. Though a casual graphic t-shirt is an essential streetwear merchandise, throwing a blazer on prime is a fast, sharp-trying way to gown things up, a pattern that has been absorbed by the mens streetwear shoes mainstream.
If we needed to strip streetwear all the way down to any gadgets, I'd say a dope pair of denims, a pleasant t-shirt and a clean pair of kicks. It's a blend of skateboard and sneaker culture. Everyone had a pair of Jordans and that helped foster the sneaker motion. That love for Michael Jordan, and his footwear, laid the framework for a look that has melted collectively as every separate model has advanced on its own after which as one. Following designer shirts for men the lineage of streetwear will lead you down a number of different roads. The foundations had been laid in the late 1970s, with the initiation of hip-hop and the urban wear that accompanied the attitudes and way of life of the music; then gained traction within the Nineteen Eighties, when surfboard designer Stussy created an underground line, skate-pleasant clothes, which went mainstream as skateboarding surged in popularity.
So where does streetwear go from right here? As with different fashion genres, traits ebb and stream; evolve and dissipate. Huge, dishevelled clothes has developed right into a more couture-sort fit, while busy patterns have shifted into solid colors. As for the future here on The City Store co.uk, it is exhausting to predict however, the previous few years have had an eighties theme; people wearing skinny-sort jeans, classic Levis, rave colors and throughout prints, however now it should be more clear, easy
In order to appeal to the youthful technology quite a lot of the designers are starting to create clothing lines that are able to supply a extra 'road' aesthetic and enchantment. pareto Streetwear is a highly appealing model influenced by hip-hop, skateboarding, and 80s nostalgia and is of particular curiosity to the teenagers and younger adults. Typically, it has been the hip-hop influence that has helped see the major enhance in the popularity of the streetwear impressed clothing lines.
Streetwear provides an ideal alternative the youngsters and young adults to stay in contact with the latest style traits and keep up-to-date with the adjustments happening on the road. Streetwear as a trend type has been extremely common for a major time, with earliest forms of this clothing line going again to the early 1990s. It is usually a popular choice of clothes all internationally, from Europe, US, Asia, Africa, and lots of different areas of the world.
Even though you might properly find this clothing line to be quite expensive, especially with some of the more unique collections, it is not always essential to pay excessive cost if you recognize where to shop for essentially the most engaging prices. On the whole, there are several ways to assist entice essentially the most competitive charges in the market, and would possibly include:
Buying out of season - If you wish to stay in touch with the road aesthetic, but favor to keep away from the high costs with the initial launch costs, you might need to store for clothing lines after they start to attain the top of the season. Typically with the top of season lines the costs are diminished to make way for the most recent stock to reach in store, so a t-shirt or jacket that was at fall worth just some weeks in the past might now be fairly affordable to buy.
Online Auctions - A further possibility for getting some enticing prices for the gathering of streetwear would possibly come with the web public sale sites, that are capable of provide an intensive collection of used and new designer clothing. By looking the public sale and lots of unbiased web sites it's often quite attainable to get some very attractive prices for many trend and design manufacturers.
All in all, if you need a assorted and huge collection of streetwear clothing and accessories, you'll certainly discover quite a lot of highly enticing objects which could be found at nice prices if the time is spent looking the best costs obtainable.

2. Subsequent on Tub road is the city legend that is Fats Buddha, Vinyl Toys, Graffiti Supplies, Lifestyle and Clothes by manufacturers like Carhartt, The A whole bunch, Kikstyo, Recon, navigate to this blog Penfield, Zoo York, Volcom, Nike, Dc's, Reebok. Voted greatest store in Glasgow by an unbiased panel of my family, however worth the visit, simply to see the shop canine Maisie.
three. Goodlife is across the highway from Fat Buddha and is uber-expensive but it's Glasgow's only Excessive end Streetwear Boutique after all, promoting mens streetwear clothing uk Original Fake & Alife, good mix of manufacturers in such a small place, but the retailer has its following, coming from a far for its model combine.
Not sure the exact story, however it looks like Goodlife has closed its doors.
four On Buchanan st you'll find this company whore that's Urban Outfitters, in sale time there are nice bargains to be had, real mixture of manufacturers in right here, and a number of the dwelling-wares are not to be sniffed at, price a go to.
In case you are American or visited considered one of these shops in America you may be stunned how poor the British model is in comparison with the American, completely different brand mix, horrible staff and no atmosphere.
5. Further down Buchanan st you will find Hugo Boss, I love this store, for years now i still like to go to it, great layout and a few their explanation good product, wonderful fits and boy do they match like they need to. Glasgow's first real designer title on Buchanan St, go visit.

Socle Du Monde – To challenge the Earth, the Moon, the Sun & the Stars, the biennale that opened a few weeks ago in Herning (Denmark), celebrates artists who have taken up “the challenge of turning the world upside down”. The event is named after a famous work by Piero Manzoni, the upside-down plinth that invites viewers to look at their surrounding from a new perspective and see the world as the ultimate artwork. Some of the pieces exhibited in the biennale are by Piero Manzoni and fellow artists who were part of ZERO, a movement in the 1950s and 1960s that looked for a ‘fresh start’ in art by eschewing color, emotion and individual expression. Visually, it might be a bit beige and tedious but a closer look reveals ingenious experiments with light, forms, space, materials and time.
Most of the biennale, however, is inhabited by contemporary robots, musical insects, animals, tattoos, African masks and tree trunks wrapped up in fabric. Just like what happened (to me) with the ZERO works, it’s tempting to stop at the first visual impression and skip from one artwork to another. However, it pays to read the description of each work and understand the ideas and beliefs behind each installation. That’s how you realize that even the most garish fairground signs have the power to make you ponder upon civic values. Or that a few farm animals can teach you a lesson about our relationship to non-human creatures. That’s also how you’re going to spend almost 6 hours visiting the biennale, instead of the 2 hours suggested by the event online guide. I spend a full day and a half there and still had the feeling i needed to come back.
The city of Herning is probably not an obvious Summer destination but if ever you find yourself in the area, do check out the biennale, it is one of the most consistently surprising, intelligent and visually compelling art events i’ve seen this year. Here’s a short and very subjective list of some of the works you can discover at Socle du Monde:

Tomás Saraceno is embracing “the Earth, the Moon, the Sun & the Stars” rather than challenging them. The artist has spent the past few years designing for the Aerocene era, a speculative CO2-free future in which humans will live in floating habitats, clustering together and peacefully defining new forms of social structures and citizenship.
The artist created a beta version of the Aerocene Explorer backpacks to help us reclaim collective ownership of the atmosphere. The floating sculpture doubles as kit for solar-powered atmospheric exploration. It is open source and you can DIY yours should you wish to explore the skies too.
Cameron Robbins, Wind Drawing Machine, 1990-2016
Cameron Robbins, Wind Drawing Machine, 1990-2016
Cameron Robbins‘s Wind Drawing Machine also harnesses weather energy. Only it translates it into abstract ink drawings. Wind speed and direction orients a swiveling drawing board connected to a wind vane, while the wind speed drives a pen on a wire arm around in a cyclical motion.
For many years Robbins has been crafting elegant drawings machines that are guided by the wind. Some of these machines draw with light. Others participate to sonic performances.
“I had found a way of working with the world,” he explained in an interview, “that reflected my observations and was my own thing. For me it also offered a nice sidestep over vexing issues like self-consciousness in art making.”
Cleaning up Wim Delvoye’s Super Cloaca
Wim Delvoye, Cloaca Faeces. Photo: Jens Wolter
One of the chapters of the biennale is tastefully titled Wim Delvoye: Shit on Piero Manzoni. It’s a little horror show orchestrated by the famous provocateur: anus prints, a video that zooms in on blackhead extraction, and a shit machine complete with its smelly production. Wim Delvoye has made several versions of Cloaca. There’s one you can squeeze in a suitcase, another that is hanging on the ceiling of a museum in Tasmania, another looks like a washing machine, etc. The one on show at the HEART museum is Super Cloaca, a huge technological simulation of the human digestion. On one side, you feed the machine and a few hours later a long sausage made of faeces is extruded. I arrived at the museum at the worst possible moment: the shit had been delivered a couple of night earlier and the staff was cleaning up the machine. The smell was awful.
The artist’s declared objective was to build an expensive, sophisticated apparatus that would have no other purpose than producing shit. Yet, the work does invite numerous questions about the value of artistic efforts, taste-based judgments, human hierarchies and even the mechanisms that support the art market. You can’t buy any of these machines but you can buy what they expel. Delvoye’s team will vacuum-pack it and seal it in a small jar of resin for you.
Wim Delvoye, Tattooed Pigs
Wim Delvoye, Tattooed Pigs
Delvoye also brought some of the tattoed pigs from his controversial Art Farm. Their taxidermied bodies are covered in hearts, leggy ladies, wings, skulls, Disney characters, Louis Vuitton monograms and religious symbols.
As an insightful article in the brooklyn rail notes: The images in this case fleetingly bolstered the physical worth of the animals while concurrently exposing the contradictions in our value system. For example, the tattooing required a special veterinary anesthesiologist because while we have procedures developed for the sedation of dogs, cats, and giraffes, pigs are not worth enough to fix if something goes wrong. But imbued with the aura of their artist decorator, the skins in which the pigs lived conferred upon them an elusive fetishized value. This value did not extend to the flesh, as the animals were skinned and their meat sold at market price.

And finally, there was Tim! Tim is “a living sculpture”. Delvoye tattooed his back and has since sold it to a German art collector. When Tim dies, his skin will be framed. In the meantime, he’s paid to sit, with a straight back and legs dangling off on a plinth. Fortunately for him, he is allowed to keep his headphones on…
Tim echoes Manzoni’s ‘living sculptures’, models whom the young artist signed with ink that could be washed off, making them temporary artworks.

Artist Nathan Coley was traveling through Central Jutland, when he saw an old sign reading ‘Same for all’. Hence his collection of signs, THE SAME FOR EVERYONE, which have been erected ten locations around Jutland. One of them is just outside one of the locations of the biennale.
I love that work. Because of the old school bulbs and scaffolding aesthetics. But also because of the text. First, you think you get the meaning immediately. But the more you think about it, the more complex its possible meaning seems to get. Or maybe i like to complicate things?
Conrad Shawcross, The ADA Project. Photo: Ole Jørgensen
Conrad Shawcross’s The ADA Project is an industrial robot, its choreographed movements inspired the composition of musical scores written by composers. The performances look quite different from what the official images of the work suggest. The machine moves far too slowly for its arms to draw those stunning patterns of light. If you’re used to media art festivals, you’re not going to be very impressed. However, i think that the value of The ADA Project lies in the development process of the work. The artist commissioned female musicians to spend a week with the robot and write a piece of music inspired by its movements. “I’m trying a new way of commissioning with new constraints,” Shawcross told The Guardian. “The key tenet was that instead of the machine being subservient to the music, the machine was the primary inspiration.
The title of the work is an homage to mathematician Ada Lovelace, who played a key role in the development of computer programming.

One of the chapters of the biennale, The Eye in the Mask, brings side by side ethnographic masks with works of art by the CoBrA avant-garde and by contemporary artists. Putting a mask on alters your identity. You can become an animal, a monster, a deity or another, more powerful, more secretive being.
A whole room was filled with the engrossing photo series that Charles Fréger realized throughout Europe in search of the mythological figure of the Wild Man.

There were chicken inside and outside the Herning Højskole, one of the main venues of the biennale. There were also bees in the adjacent garden. Céleste Boursier-Mougenot has installed burned-wood beehives and turned their activity into music. The sound is transmitted from the hives out into the landscape. By moving around the installation, you can modulate the composition.

Hans Haacke‘s transparent acrylic cube contains a small amount of water. Condensation begins to form and droplets run down the walls of the box, changing according to the ambient light and temperature. The work’s appearance therefore depends upon the environment in which it is placed. As Haacke explained in 1965: “The conditions are comparable to a living organism which reacts in a flexible manner to its surroundings. The image of condensation cannot be precisely predicted. It is changing freely, bound only by statistical limits. I like this freedom.”

When you enter the rooms dedicated to Hesselholdt & Mejlvang‘s installation, you see a white floor, white walls, white furniture, white objects, etc. The space immediately evokes one of those ZERO experiments. But as soon as black light fills the room, heinous sentences cover all surfaces. “Go back to your pig land!” “They came to invade. PERIOD!” “Kill all you faggots now”, etc. The artists found these racist and bigoted sentences on online message boards and comment sections. The duo then copied them using luminous fluorescent paint. The effect is upsetting. You’re tempted to stay so that you can read everything but you are also compelled to get out of the room as quickly as possible such is the unpleasant effect that these words have on you.

Kaylee Patterson is back on the scene with a brand new release: Other Side
A perfect combination of exciting hooks, beautiful sonic aesthetics and a great arrangement.
August 2020 - Kaylee Patterson is an artist and songwriter with a focus on creating edgy songs, with a love for different influences. Her most recent studio release, Other Side, is a combination of indie, pop, and more, making for a unique and highly rewarding combination of styles that keep the attention span of the listener high. The song begins with a brooding atmospheric texture, and the main mood of the track jumps to the forefront soon after. Right off the bat, the production is very impressive, showcasing Kaylee’s ability to create music that feels catchy, yet organic and spontaneous.
The song’s beginning has a nice, gentle pad, which adds more texture and atmosphere to the music, reminiscent of artists as diverse as Beach House and Chvrches. Kayelee’s vocals have a playful and upfront feel, making me think of artists as diverse as Kate Nash, as well as Lykke Ly, only to mention but a few. The production has a very intimate indie flavor, with upfront drums and beautiful ukulele tones that feels delicate, yet energetic and spontaneous. This track is the classic example of what it means to combine different textures and ideas into a completely refreshing sonic formula, and the result is excellent. If you are a fan of artists as diverse as Bat For Lushes, Courtney Barnett or Daughter, you should definitely give this one a go.
Ultimately, Other Side feels like a perfect compromise between energy and melody, making for a truly exciting feel. The verses are slightly held back, in order to allow the main hooks to really stand out and branch out. This is when the release reaches is absolute apex, and when the song has its greatest emotional payoff, really bringing the point home! The song’s intro has a soaring build-up, really perfect to set the mood and pave the way for the rest of this release to unfold. The atmosphere of the music is truly engrossing, and the sound of this song is quite distinctive, providing an honest portrait of Kaylee as a songwriter and artist. She knows what she wants to say with this single, and because of her instinctive approach, it is very easy for listeners to find a genuine connection. The artwork of this release is also pretty spot-on, giving the music an amazing context. Many review writers actually never really focus on talking about the artwork, but to me, it's a really important part of packaging music and sharing it with the audience, so it definitely deserves to be explored a little bit more in general. In this case, the artwork has a very simple concept at its core, but it's so in tune with the music and it really helps the artist establish her image in a very direct way.  The lush melodies and stunning soundscape draw the listener into the release immediately. The production aesthetic of the project is balanced and crisp, yet the style recalls a more vintage sound. This merging of two worlds, the old and the new, make it unique and distinctive. It’s also worth mentioning that the music video has a really nice vibe, with a nice focus on portraying the song’s lyrics with a nice collage-style animation, perfectly fitting the style and feel of the song.
Ultimately, this release is a winner because it is a perfect blend of fantastic production quality, and astonishing performance skills. Kaylee is truly committed to creating meaningful heart, and the amazing energy of Other Side speaks for itself. This is definitely a must for any fan of artists like Lana Del Rey, Leonard Cohen, and Alexandra Savior, only to mention a few.

We also had the chance to have a chat with the artist! Keep reading to learn more:
I love how you manage to render your tracks so personal and organic. Does the melody come first, or do you focus on the beat the most?
Answer: Sometimes, I’ll start the songwriting process with a general theme or a couple of metaphors that I want to incorporate. The melody and the beat fall together quite quickly after the first couple of lines, like a puzzle. Often, I’ll be in the shower or doing my dishes and come up with an amazing chorus, while doing something completely monotonous.
Do you perform live? If so, do you feel more comfortable on a stage or within the walls of the recording studio?
Answer: I’ve performed live a few times pre-COVID and I do think that there’s very little that beats the high of performing in front of a crowd. The immediate fan response is also super fulfilling. In a recording studio, it’s a different type of comfort. The confines of a recording studio are safe and familiar. It’s so easy to just start over if you mess up a line and there’s no pressure to be perfect all the time.
If you could only pick one song to make a “first impression” on a new listener, which song would you pick and why?
Answer: Other Side is currently the only song I have released, but I made the stylistic decision to release drop it first because I think it best describes what I want to accomplish as an artist. Pop music has always sounded the same to me, so I set out to take some elements of that style and transform it into my unique sound.  My next releases follow in that same experimental vein, but Other Side is probably my catchiest one.
What does it take to be “innovative” in music?
Answer: I think being musically innovative just means being yourself and owning that. Releasing music to be the next Lana Del Rey or Ariana Grande will only lead to more sameness in the industry. The minute you embrace all the things that make you different and define you as a person is when you’ll have an easier time bringing that, whatever that is, to your music.
Any upcoming release or tour your way?
Answer: My next single, “New Shoes” comes out early September. I’m planning on releasing an EP sometime in the early Fall, so that’s also something to look out for!
Anywhere online where curious fans can listen to your music and find out more about you?
Answer: You can find me on Spotify, Youtube, and Soundcloud under Kaylee Patterson. I’m also extremely active on Twitter (@kayleepatts) and Instagram (@ukekaylee).

João Tostes introducing a brand new live album.
The record is titled “Live Ukulele Here, There & Everywhere.”
A collection of melodious, inspiring and well-produced ukulele songs that bridge the gaps between timelessness and innovation in the world music scene.
March 2020 - Artist and songwriter João Tostes is back on the scene with an astonishing new live effort, Live Ukulele Here, There & Everywhere. The album is the perfect follow-up to “Live in Italy,” his sophomore discographic project, which was release in 2019 one year after his astonishing debut album, “naturæ,” which was also well-received. As the title might suggest, this artist is all about setting the bar higher in terms of what musicians can accomplish with creating music using Ukulele. Often regarded as somewhat of a little, more cheerful cousin of the guitar, the ukulele is often overlooked in terms of the versatility that it can bring to the mix. This album is a particularly great indication of what a versatile instrument this is, even more so because João plays the ukulele in a world music setting. As a Brazilian performer playing a Hawaiian instrument, the fusion element is undeniable here, and in addition to that, João is open to so many other tasteful influences, going from psychedelic rock, to folkloristic music and pretty much everything in between. Live Ukulele Here, There & Everywhere is a great testimony to the artist’s creativity. João’s song choices are extraordinarily diverse. From classics of the rock and pop world, down to beloved standards and evergreens, anything goes. This record is tastefully executed, and the spontaneity of its production and recording actually lend João’s music a more authentic and appealing tone. This is quite simply the sound of an artist playing his instruments, connecting with the audience on a deeper level. The album features 20 live recordings, which have been performed over the span of 4 years, in 4 different countries and 8 cities around our beautiful planet. João humbly approaches the instrument and he is not only a player, but also an educator, holding workshops to spread the word about ukulele and rethinking the way this instrument is taught and learned.
João brought to life his own rendition of many classic songs, including a stunning performance of Bohemian Rhapsody, as made famous by Queen. The song is not featured on the album, but it is still in line with the aesthetics and concept of this record, so I feel that it is definitely worth mentioning it. João approaches the ukulele on this song almost like a classical guitarist, allowing the instrument to be the lead and rhythm driving force of the piece. The sound is tasteful and poised, showcasing João’s mastery of the instrument and astonishing melodic sensibilities. The album itself features stunning live recordings, with João performing in different parts of the world, from South Korea to Brazil, Italy, Canada, and many other locations. The album is extremely well-produced, and it’s awesome to see that João managed to come up with a really nice and consistent sound, due to his recording process, even if the tracks are recorded thousands of kilometers apart from each other. His rendition of the classic Hallelujah (as made famous by songwriter Leonard Cohen and performer Jeff Buckley, who brought mass appeal to the song) is particular special. The track has a smooth, introspective tone that feels peaceful and eclectic. He also released his own spin on classic songs such as Girl From Ipanema or even new works like Delicato Ukulele, an original composition with a stunning atmosphere. João managed to tackle other well-loved songs, including Yesterday (The Beatles,”) which also features a beautiful collaboration with a double bassist, Diogo Fernandes. This combination is particularly spot-on, giving the song a very exciting and one of a kind feel, offering influences such as jazz and tango.
Sophistication, melody, and passion. These are some of the words that come to mind when describing the music and style of João Tostes. More importantly, this record captures the artist’s spirit of adventure, with each song recorded in a different location. We are currently living in a very unprecedented time due to the Coronavirus scare. Countries are shutting their borders and going on lock-downs. People are losing their jobs and are forced to be alone indoors. Artists and performers are hit more so than most categories since venues and events have been closed, canceled, or postponed indefinitely. Yet, a record like “Live Ukulele Here, There & Everywhere” keeps the fire of hope and positivity burning. This is a record with music from the world, performed all over the world, from a child of the world. A strong message of unity, which stands as a reminder that music is a force that binds us all together.
In conclusion, João Tostes is a once-in-a-generation talent whose music deserves a broad audience. He has been bringing good vibes, great melodies and positivity to the world, and even better - he showed the world that the ukulele is so much more than just a campfire instrument to cover Somewhere Over The Rainbow - not that there is anything wrong with it (in fact, that song is a classic for a reason!) but there is so much more to the ukulele, and João is one of the few artists out there showcasing the instrument at its fullest and most engaging potential. Live Ukulele Here, There & Everywhere is a perfect calling card for this talented recording artist, and a perfect indication of his commitment to creating high-quality music that transcends all sorts of creative boundaries, in favor of a sound that feels lively, inspired and so innovative. Get lost in this beautiful sonic journey and discover some amazing ukulele performances throughout the span of 20 tracks.

Frute - Frute Snacks Volume 2
February 2020 - Hailing from Atlanta, GA, Frute is a jam band with a diverse sound and a one-of-a-kind creative approach. Their music blurs the lines between psychedelic jam-band type material, as well as rock, progressive, and pretty much everything in between! What makes the band special is that they are quite eclectic, and they are able to achieve and impressively diverse variety of sounds with their music. Recently, the group set out to release an exciting new project named “Frute Snacks Volume 2,” now available on the web. This release features 3 songs, each setting the bar higher in terms of diversity and production aesthetics, revealing different sides to the band’s creativity. The opening track is a song titled “Sounds in Town,” which is an extended jam, informed by 70s psychedelic rock, funk music and everything in between. A bit Floydian, this song has a lush and textural approach to production, with clever use of guitar effects such as delay and phasing. One of the most thrilling elements of the song is definitely the fact that it often switches its mood, with tempo changes, different rhythms and sophisticated vocal parts that add to the musicality of the instrumental. This is a song that feels groovy and chill, yet energetic and upbeat. The drums and bass lock in together perfectly, creating a fantastic space for the other instruments to merge and come up with something amazing, relying on a solid backbone for the arrangement. I particularly love the breakout section at about 3 minutes in, which really takes the song somewhere else, in the vein of the best progressive rock music. This is a perfect example of the band’s open-ended creativity and the chemistry between the members. The next track “Us, the Jellyfish” kicks in with a stunning melodic introduction and a more understated feel. The lyrics are poetic and the voice is quite intimate, going for a more introspective vibe, but without undermining the song’s energy and upfront edge. The track has a dreamy atmosphere that makes me think of artists like The Pixies or The Flaming Lips, as well as Nick Cave. However, Frute has its own distinctive vibe and they do not necessarily sound like any of the artists that I mentioned - it’s more like a vibe that they exude with their production and verve! This is a more traditional song-format track and it is the shortest composition on the album, clocking in at slightly over the 3-minute mark. Last, but definitely not least, this release ends on “We Are the Bees,” a funk-rock banger with a unique vibe. Fans of artists like Minutemen or earlier Red Hot Chili Peppers might love the color quality of this song, as well as the fact that it highlights how these musicians are all about having some fun. They don’t take themselves too seriously, but they do take their music seriously, going for a distinctive and one-of-a-kind feel.
In addition to the band’s astonishing performances and world-class musicianship, the EP is also notable due to its production. There is a nice degree of separation between all the instruments, meaning that these songs don’t sound like an intelligible mush of reverb and delay, as it can be the case with some jam bands or psychedelic acts. On the contrary, there is a cool 70s vibe to the production of this record. The drums are punchy and lively, and the guitars have enough snap that allows them to cover a melodic and rhythmic function as well. The bass is big and powerful, yet it is also very nuanced and rich in terms of low-end detail, going for a classic vibe. The vocals are upfront and they are dynamically diverse, with softer, lower-register moments alternating brighter vocal parts and playful harmonies that bring something special to the mix. The vocals are never overpowered by the instrumentals and viceversa, they instrumental parts never do get in the way of the vocals. Everything is perfectly balanced, leading to a one-of-a-kind listening experience that sets the bar higher. The artwork cover is also worth mentioning because I feel that it really matches the aesthetics of the music and the personality of the band. The colors are bright and varied, and the drawings have a very iconic style, almost reminiscent of pop-art geniuses such as Andy Warhol, only to mention a few. Any fan of music that’s eclectic and performed with instinct and passion will definitely enjoy this one. From Floydian textures to Beatlesque vocal harmonies, as well as echoes of Red Hot Chili Peppers, Frank Zappa and Minutemen, the sound of this band has a lot to offer, and it is astonishing to hear how much music the group was able to pack in just a 3 songs EP! This also serves as a perfect introduction to Frute’s music, and a nice companion to their previous releases, including this release’s earlier companion, “Frute Snack Volume 1,” which is also up on Spotify and other streaming platforms on the internet. The band is on the way to keep building its online discography, and their music is absolutely astonishing, giving the audience a bright and varied sonic fabric, where the music is almost akin to a Jackson Pollock painting. You can hear the freedom in the band’s creativity, as they are not afraid to take chances with their songwriting, and ultimately, take the music to new, adventurous places that escape all boundaries and traditional genre definitions, which are so often self-imposed in the world of music. Why limit yourself? Get out there and explore!

XHouseMusic  - Welcome to XHouseMusic
A combination of great melodies and energetic arrangements with an electro-pop flavor.
XHouseMusic is a talented artist with a unique, diverse and forward-thinking approach.
The artist’s new release is a direct and thought-provoking release, which feels like a striking combination of dance, electro, and pop. Recently, he released a beautiful new album titled Welcome to XHouseMusic, which actually features 10 songs, each setting the bar higher and providing something different to broaden the flavors of this amazing collection of songs.
In fact, this new studio effort represents a significant step forward for the artist, showcasing a sound that feels refined, yet instinctive and loaded with energy.
From the unique mix of great lyrics and engaging grooves, down to the immediacy of the hooks, this release channels a various range of influences to perfection, resulting in a balanced, diverse and exciting tone that will certainly please a very broad audience. Keep reading for a track-by-track overview on this release.
Surrender: This song stands out as the perfect introduction to the album, highlighting the outstanding production aesthetics and the good combination of energy and melody that you will find on this particular release.
Project 5: This track is a quintessential electro-pop anthem, with some truly amazing performances and some stunning vocals, reminiscent of classic acts such as Depeche Mode
I’m already your hero: This song is a fast-paced track, which combines a killer beat with some amazing vocals and a very upbeat tempo. The melodies are soothing and atmospheric, bringing more ambiance to the song.
I'm all in:
I’m All In: a killer tune that’s almost halfway through the album, giving it a nice and forward-thinking feel, which is still quite simple and amazingly easy to relate to. This is a very upfront and dynamic song, matching the artist’s astonishing performance with a very good production value.
You’re Still standing there: this is an emotional track with a powerful twist to it, and a stunning arrangement that really hits the spot. The mixing on this one  is very dense and crisp, making for a well-rounded listening experience
On the dance floor: as the title might suggest, this is a true banger that will get drag you to the dance floor! This release is definitely going to be your cup of tea if you like catchy electronic songs!
Welcome to XhouseMusic: is almost like a flagship track for this artist, and the title is indeed quite pertinent here. This song shows off the skills of the artist and it highlights his broad creative scope.
Mother Russia: This song has a really positive and direct melodic structure, making me think of some of the later Coldplay stuff, not to mention producers such as AVICCI, among others. This is one of the most joyful and direct songs on the album!
You’re loved by me: Another exciting song with a diverse and forward-thinking feel, bringing something different to the flow of this release.
Speak up and let me know: Last, but definitely not least, this song is another amazing track, which combines all the energy, and emotion that we got to experience through the span of this amazing musical rollercoaster.
Ultimately, If you enjoy the sound and feel of artists such as Coldplay, AVICCII and Depeche Mode, you are certainly going to enjoy this release. One of the most interesting and striking features of this release is definitely its remarkable consistency. Not many artists can easily pull off a project that features such a wide variety of elements and influences. The most obvious risk is that the material can end up sounding quite disconnected and loose - but this is definitely not the case. XHouseMusic is a master at creating organic, cohesive and consistent vibes, which really flow well throughout the span of this release. The performances are loaded with passion and integrity, while the production aesthetics are also excellent. The mixing quality is indeed absolutely world-class, with some amazing definition in the top end and lots of punch in the low-end and midrange. The results sound warm and present, yet never harsh or fatiguing, which is quite an amazing achievement, particularly in this genre!
