seventeen as seventeen songs
requested by @nishloves
notes: honestly this was hard to do 😭 i kept thinking about songs that are most iconic for that member rather than which song they fit, but hopefully it's still somewhat accurate <3
[the spotify playlist with these songs in too]
masterlist
Tumblr media
seungcheol
clap. if there's any song that screams "i'm the leader of seventeen and we're better than any of your lazy asses", then it's clap. it's also such an iconic song, and the hypeness and brightness and the coolness and suaveness it radiates all at once is very very seungcheol, if you ask me. it also doesn't hurt that he looked so so good with his silver hair in the mv.
jeonghan
snap shoot. okay, this one sounds really unusual, but hear me out. snap shoot gives encore song vibes, goodbye song but not quite goodbye, "today was fun and i hope to see you soon" vibes. it's like standing back and watching everyone have fun because of something that you did. it's being happy n having fun by seeing that you made others have fun. and that's jeonghan.
joshua
falling for u. it's such a delicate song, all polite and sweet and delicate and therefore it's just very very much joshua. the youthful, almost playful edge to the melody reminds me of him, along with the kind of naive, "you're so pretty so i fell in love" kind of loving that the song feels like makes me think of josh. also a bonus that he has tons of lines in this song, since it's just a duet w him and jeonghan haha
junhui
my my. the hope!! the sweetness!! the little funky music in the intro that adorably reminds me of junhui's voice!! it's all just so him. the way this song just encapsulates feelings of youth and life and being forever young and forever going towards your dreams... that never-failing optimism is so junhui it almost hurts
hoshi
hit. if you don't think the constant "woah woah woah woah woah"s and "let me drop the 음" aren't the most hoshi things ever then idk what you're on, man. it's hype, it's powerful, it's "im better than you and even you know it" and so cocky but also so True that you can't even refute it. it's about always doing better, always going further, and that's just so hoshi.
wonwoo
lean on me. jazzy, chill, dependable vibes are a very very wonwoo thing, actually, and that's what this entire song is about. it's laid back, and yet loving at the same time, caring and comfortable and ready to be by your side. it feels like a song you'd listen to while on a walk with him at night, his camera up to his eyes, his hand wrapped around yours.
woozi
247. it's romantic, but also a little wistful at the same time? elegant, yet nostalgic, thoughtful and sweet and like dancing across a glass lake. it's what woozi feels like, with his intelligence and how delicately he feels things. to be honest, a lot of the ballad-style, romantic earlier songs of svt fit him rlly well, but 247 even more so
minghao
hit song. it's a smooth feeling song, like running a cloth over a black marble countertop. honestly, finding a minghao vibe song is really hard for me, but some of their gentler songs seem to fit him, full of devoted, almost shy love that feels very minghao to me. that devotion, that softness and yet the determination also present feels like him
mingyu
boomboom. purely based on the vibes of the song tbh, and the prominent drums and chromaticism of the melody feel like mingyu, along with the brass accents and the confidence and coolness is just all so very very there that it makes me think of mingyu practically almost instantly.
dokyeom
kidult. not only because his vocals in this song are both iconic and utterly incredible, but even its message is very dokyeom. it encapsulates his innate urge to help people, to heal people, to make sure they smile and that they know they're loved. it's a precious song, and a song about letting others know they're precious, and has me crying and smiling, just like dokyeom does.
seungkwan
'bout you. it's a devastatingly romantic song, like a simple, easy love. it's like the type of love with zero complications, just full of two people laughing and running through fields hand in hand and hearts full of love for one another. the entire song feels so fresh, almost citrusy, and never ever fails to bring a smile to my face. just like seungkwan, actually.
vernon
crush. im gonna be real with u i have no idea how to explain this one but yeah. crush gives me vernon vibes and idk, maybe it's the funky vibes of the song with its mild chromaticism that give me a vernon feeling, but yeah. vernon is crush. (maybe it's because that's what i have on him-)
chan
domino. it's a light song, like floating but not quite. almost as if bouncing on your feet in midair, leaping across clouds which just gives me chan vibes. it also gives me movie ending credits song vibes after a bright, high school-set rom com learning-to-grow kind of movie which is very very chan in my opinion

Tagged by @ervona to post about 5 songs I've been listening to lately! Making a little mix and match playlist based on the half dozen tracks on my phone and songs I've recently discovered. I will detail a bit about each under the cut :)
Nouar - Cheika Rimitti (rai)
Twilight of the Thunder god - Amon Amarth (metal)
What's Golden - Jurassic 5 (hiphop)
Sledgehammer - Peter Gabriel (pop)
Potions - Puscifer (? rock ?)
NOUAR
A few months ago, the combination of discovering a rai playlist on Spotify based on an artist I listen to with friends and another discovery of a radio station that exclusively plays north african and middle eastern music, the latter which became my go-to listen on the way from work for a while, I discovered this specific track. It's a huge niche hit, unknown to the general public but racking up in the millions of views online among fans of the genre and it's easy to see why! This is an absolutely hypnotic track which cleverly layers it's intrument with a catchy sung melody, periodically cut by the rythmic choir repeating its title. The main singer in the dialog has an outstanding voice and this all makes for a looping, hooking listening experience that makes you want to play it forever.
youtube
Twilight of the Thunder God
In a very different vibe, we have a track that perfectly matches it's overdesigned, historically based (yet inaccurate) cheesy madness of an album cover. This is the only song if this band I'm familiar with as a big hit. Power metal is among some of my favorite genres of music of all time, especially in it's overbearing energy and gratuitous use of double-pedals on the kick drum, fast bass and general theatrics. While I'm not a fan of growled vocals, this track compensates in my mind with one of THE catchiest hooks I know of in the genre. When I listen to TofTG, it's because I suddently remember it one day and get instantly compelled to download it on my phone and scream its lyrics at the sky until it leaves my head where it's stuck. This can take weeks...
youtube
What's Golden
Yet another radio discovery! I'm shamefully bad at hiphop, despite liking the genre a lot, no-one around me listened to it for ages so I don't have similar backlog as in other genres and as such as a grown adult am discovering it all with enthusiasm. This song sums up so many aspects I love in the genre which i'll definitly be using to nail what specific sub-genres are my favorite some day... catchy with a great flow and an instrumental that hooks you, it's impossible to not nod along to the beat and drop what I'm doing to listen to the full thing when it comes up on my playlist.
youtube
Sledgehammer
Yeah yeah it's a classic you all know it. And for a reason! This is one of, if not the only song I know which I can't separate from it's music video. I typically dislike MVs and prefer listening to music in pure audio format, but Sledgehammer comes with such a well crafted, wlel synched and creative film attached that it's always playing in my head when I hear it. This song was introduced to me by a mutual a few years ago which I'll be tagging in this post later as a thank you! I don't get its appeal as a dancey song, but it's definitly a track to dramatically walk to, which is probably the appeal the rest of this site sees in Once in a Lifetime...
youtube
Potions
For the nerds in the audience, this is a Reznor and Maynard collab so you know what you're getting into. The first thing that strikes me in this track is how loud the bass is - it turns the classic rock instrumental it's made from into something else that's just slightly overwhelming. And on top of that, very delicate vocals detail a raw, simple story of love and addiction. Where I chose this song above the many others of the band I'd been listening to a lot last month is this particular theme it has fits very well with a book series I'm reading right now, and it was easy for me to let my mind fly away with it on...:)
youtube
***
Runner ups: The Shame Of Life - Butthole Surfers / Ai vist to Lop - Mont-Jòia / Feuer Frei! - Rammstein / For me, Formidable - Charles Aznavour / It Mek - Desmond Dekker & the Aces

Tagging, your turn! @steamclouds @prolibytherium @internationalspacehobo @paristonhilll

how NOT to pirate music (simple)
With Spotify having tons of issues with taking music off its platform and not paying artists, and with both Spotify and Apple Music costing ridiculous amounts of money, AND with YouTube fighting with adblockers and literally costing you more money depending on what device you're buying Premium on -- you might be considering pirating music.
This is a very simple guide on how NOT to do that.
Pick a song. If possible, find a audio only or lyric video so it's ONLY the song and doesn't include silence or things like MV scenes
Find it on YouTube and use this YouTube to MP3 site: https://y232.live/ (or any YT to MP3 converter that works, but this one has no ads!)
If the song isn't on YouTube, google "[website] video to mp3 converter". Use caution when using these sites because they often have a lot of pop-up ads!!
Download it. You can name the file whatever you want, but things will be much easier for you if you name it something similar to the song title
Download a music sorting software. I use iTunes but there's also MusicBee which is free and does a lot of the same things. If you have other recommendations please share!
Upload the file(s) to the software.
Edit it to have the proper song name and artist name. Or name it whatever you want. This is the only real important part when it comes to organization. iTunes and MusicBee also give the options to list things like the album name, album artist, year, genre, etc. MusicBee lets you add tags as well and even list the language of the song.
Click play and enjoy!
(Re: downloading music to your phone, iTunes makes it very easy to sync your music library with your Apple Devices, but I'm still playing around with MusicBee so I'm not sure what capabilities it has yet. I've heard of another app called MediaMonkey which I believe is supposed to sync to Apple and Android devices but I can't say for sure)
This may seem like a lot of work (hypothetically of course), but having ownership of your own music files is definitely worth it!

Band rec (/band introduction)
ZRGN
I'm sorry idk how to make posts look pretty yet but anyway here are ZRGN/zarigani (meaning crawfish)
Tumblr media
On the left is Satsuki, he does the guitar, backing vocals, and he's a professional video editor so he edits their mvs! On the right is Hyoga, the vocalist and bassist. They had a different vocalist previously but he left, not sure why.
ZRGN is iryou and misshitsu kei, their songs are quite fun to listen to they have a unique sound, I recommend. Also, both Hyoga and Satsuki speak English, Satsuki even majored in english in college.
Here are the songs I recommend to start with!
They released an album this april which include re-arranged versions of the above songs so I recommend listening to those after you listen to the original versions
This song shares a name w the album! Their most recent on spotify.
Satsuki is also selling cheki on booth/buyee, I think they're still up. I'm waiting for mine to arrive, they're all signed, he even tried reaching out to everyone who ordered so he can write their names on the cheki but there were some issues because buyee is difficult, but its sweet regardless. I actually spoke to him over insta regarding the cheki and he seemed really sweet and friendly!
Please give them a listen! They are more active on Twitter than instagram I think, so you can try find them there!

FRI(END)S : THE SONG
Tumblr media
This post is part of a series of my thoughts on this release. It's time to finally get these out of drafts and posted before Hobi's release. Here are links to the other posts:
QUICKCOMBO: Continuation
QUICKCOMBO: Termination
The Song (this post)
The Music Video
The Promo
First, if you haven't heard the song yet, please give it a listen and make your own impressions.
Initial Thoughts
The night this was released, I was having some sudden internet issues and was slightly panicking about being able to work the next day so I was admittedly a little stressed by the time I got to listen even though I stayed up specifically for it.
Usually I would listen to it first on Spotify before watching the music video but I was able to get the mv to load first for some reason. My first impression on the song itself was actually a little bit of confusion as to how long the track actually would be given all the 'non-song' space in the mv.
When I did finally get Spotify to work, I definitely thought it was too short but I was so excited that I was vibing with it as much as I did. V's solo work is very hit or miss for me, with most of LayoVer being a miss. I don't think the album was bad, I just had a hard time with it since none of the tracks really appeal to me. But Fri(end)s? I liked on the first few listens. Which is kinda funny because I was actually wondering pretty early on if Fri(end)s would work as part of LayoVer...more on that later in this post.
I still think the song is too short. I realize that's the trend these days as it's more of a marketing tactic but that doesn't mean I have to like the trend. Especially with the extremely clear folding of the song into two parts, it's pretty obvious to even some casual listeners that there's something missing. Not enough to make it a bad song but it just feels slightly unfinished.
Performance
If you haven't already watched the Live Film, I highly recommend it.
youtube
I know it's kinda a flex in music communities to value live versions over studio releases but I rarely fall into that camp. (I honestly think it has something to do with a sensory issue I have and extra noise that is often present in such recordings...anyway back to V). This performance is so great! It perfectly embodies both Tae's personality and the energy needed for a song like this. I honestly just felt so good listening to him sing this because he did it in the exact same way I do when I sing along to music; adding extra little rifs and bits just for the fun of it and avoiding the typical notes that all of the members leave out of most performances.
I'm not qualified to comment on the musical technique needed for this song but there are definitely some fun challenges that make for a satisfying singalong once you've nailed them!
LayoVer
If you haven't listened to the complete album in a while, here's a link. Always a good idea to give an album a complete top-to-bottom listen every once in a while, especially this one with how Tae agonized over track sequence of his solo work as mentioned during Festa 2022.
So, if you just list the key words of the lyrical themes and musical elements of both Fri(end)s and LayoVer, you'd think they'd be an easy match but the more I investigated, the less I think so.
First, I'm not really a music researcher when it comes to credits or following specific contributors but from what I can tell, there weren't any of the same individuals listed between the two projects except Tae himself. Which honestly surprised me.
Just going off of memory, I thought it'd fit in smoothly either before or after Slow Dancing but after trying it out, it just doesn't land for me. It absolutely deserves to be its own single and I'd initially wondered if it had been ripped out of the album as the track to tide us over during this chunk of ms but I really don't feel that way at all.
It honestly reminds me a little of how JK released 3D as a separate track. That song (as much as I don't love it) does stand on its own without the support of an album. Maybe Fri(end)s was one of the other songs Tae found during his search for LayoVer but that team didn't have enough material for a cohesive album? He didn't want to lose it so kept it as a single to release later.
I want you all to know that I wrote the above before seeing this video...thanks for proving me right V!! 😆
youtube
More thoughts on some of the meaning(s) of the song in my mv post!
(Sidenote, if you haven't seen the full set of the gif at the top of this post, I highly recommend checking it out. It's gorgeous! Absolutely astonishing work @kimtaegis 😍)

Wow just infront of our eyes we can actually see how Jimin was sabotage so much.
He got his views deleted from both MV, hanteo kept on deleting his sales and freezing it, debuted No2 on BB200 where he could have debuted at No1, also Spotify too being a btch and getting drag on Twitter with tweet with over thousands of likes.
Note that I'm not hating on Yoongi. His CB was fire and spilling some tea left and right as expected from a great producer and rapper but to see how his sales are not freeze and deleted where the sales are still counting bc he literally surpass abt 1.07M copies in 7hrs and also YouTube has not yet deleting views and how well the company is promoting his album etc makes me sad how they did Jimin dirty. I'm still happy that 3/7 members are already million sellers btw.
Anyways I really wish for Jimin next comeback in some years we could work 10x harder for him for this unfairness and disrespect he just got. I'm ha right now for Yoongi and at the time I'm sad and dissatisfied abt the unfairness and disrespect Jimin has got from the company, the industry, the media and even Army.
Thank you for this! I feel exactly the same.
I just can’t stand the unfairness towards Jimin and I can’t get over the fact he would have even more records if he wasn’t robbed.
He would have 1,7+ million sales on Hanteo and he would be 1st. I’m sorry but it’s Jimin’s record.
Set me free would be on Billboard Hot100 on its 2nd week and Like Crazy would be No6 on its 2nd week. (literally 100k sales and hard work removed it was disgusting)
He would have 40 million filtered streams and 49 million unfiltered streams week debut on Spotify and many more Spotify records.
I can only guess how many YouTube views he would have.
The saddest part is that it will never be corrected.
I watched Yoongi’s MV, I listened to his album and I think he is genius, but right now I am still in Face era.
I am happy for Yoongi’s success and at the same time I am still sad and pissed about all the sabotage Jimin had to go through.
I wish Jimin will have song with big western artist, because then Bighit / Hybe, Billboard and all those antis dragging him won’t be able to do anything.

I'm listening to: potatoi, toy.
I've been a big fan of John for a long time, really I could go on and on, so i'll let myself ramble a little. I remember when John was releasing music under 'obdnce' on soundcloud and listening to his 'Why Not?' EP on spotify, it was the first time I really started to appreciate instrumental music, and I started to focus on sounds a lot more. So from the get go, this album already holds a lot of meaning for me, it stands for a change of pace, and a change of attention. And so much has changed and adapted over the past few years, so little time, so many new experiences, new people, new feelings, attention. Yet still working hard each day, progressing and walking along our own paths.
So now we meet Potatoi, and his musical story of 'Toy'. The cute blue robot taking centre stage on the album cover, it feels sweet and ernest. It makes me think about how I show my feelings, wear my heart on my sleeve, have my head filled with doubt, and if other people see this? It feels cute and somewhat clumsy, it feels honest.
Track 1, Toy. makes me think of the style I had always loved, reminiscent of songs such as Rough Sketches '아무말' and 'Sunset Hills' - which I both love dearly. I will always enjoy a fun jazzy intro. And I love seeing the interconnected thoughts and the stories of artists over the years. I am curious about john, John Cha, obdnce, potatoi, growing as an artist, a creative person, and the changing expression and flow of words. Personally, as just a humble listener I feel like his music has flourished, and it is such a beautiful thing.
I have been listening to Image often. I remember the first time I listened, I was watching the MV, and reading the lyrics. I remember how it touched my heart, there was a sense of vulnerablity which struck me, and I felt like I saw myself, and every moment of the past colliding together. Image has such a beautiful melody, it's the sort of song that makes me feel like cherishing everything: everything about life, the dull everyday, the beautiful everyday. How does everything feel so present, and how does every step, each taken from hundreds of miles away seem to fall into a rhythm?
"There's a part of me I can't tell you, my own secret
Sometimes I wonder if I want to hide it from you too, secretly (Hmm)"
There's a drama I watched last year, that spoke of the book 'To Room Nineteen' which I have desperately been wanting to read. We have these things that we hold so dearly, and closely to us, our 'Room 19'. Do we share this with those we love? Will our protection be broken? If we open the door just to let a little light in, will everything suddenly flow out? So these questions have been on my mind for months, and I wonder each day, what is the worth of sharing things, and how each and every thing deserves nuance.
"There's a part of me I can't tell you, my own secret Sometimes I wonder if I want to hide it from you too, secretly (Hmm)"
I think how the world gets tangled and twisted, running alongside itself, connecting people, words and feelings, is one of the most precious things. That is the basis of why I want to write about this album, how I feel, my words, and sharing thoughts with others.
I was really pleasantly surprised by 'Shade' I love songs that feel dreamy but have that underlying grit and darkness. I think of the phrase "there are two sides to every coin" (meaning, you can't have the good part of something without its bad). Where there is light, shining brightly and beautifully, there is shade and darkness. Where light could be shining brightly and beautifully, there is light that is blinding and suffocating. Where there is shade there is variety, shades of light and darkness merging together. "There are two sides to every coin" but is it ever that simple? That starkly black and white? Maybe life is not like a coin, but one of the dice with tens of sides, it gets tossed and turned, crashing on hard surfaces, and in the end, there are multiple sides facing the darkness, and multiple sides facing the light, all in different shades. That is what shade makes me think of, so often I wish for things to be simpler and complexity turns life into a painful, blinding haze, and so often I adore the complexity of life.
And so with the complexity of love, there is space for cuteness, purity and simplicity. 'Popsicle' seems to fulfill these. It makes my heart happy.I like the formation of the album, each song swims and flows into the next smoothly.
I love hearing how Potatoi reimagines 'Evening Glow' somehow when I listen I feel flooded with emotions in a way that is different to the wave to earth version. I think the way he sings the lyrics, I just.. it feels real, 'tender' and vulnerable..aaa really suddenly every bittersweet memory comes to me at once. I think that's it, that's how I feel about Potatoi- vulnerability.
Once again, feelings of love, loneliness and confusion run alongside each other, falling, fading and growing, and we are onto 'Vanish
''Fly away, fly away Go far away From here"
"We're gonna find the way To vanish from this world"
'We' is such a beautiful word, we live our life surrounded by people, in busy cities, or small towns but to be truly part of something, to be part of 'We' is precious. Again our moments and days fade together, whether singing to the whole world, to one person, or to ourselves - there are times when things are connected and shared, beauty and darkness. There are times when the pain of joint memories and wishes are so prevelant in my life, that it feels sickening. Wishes fade and turn into things I want to hide. Sometimes I wish to be my own 'We'. To sooth my pain the way I try to sooth the pain of my loved ones. Whatever that 'We' is, it will always be important, and I wish to find a way to be the rest point, a person to cry to, and a person to lie on, for all people I love, myself included.
For me 'Plain life' plays off these feelings too.
"Look at our plain lives oh I'm gonna color up your day"
It makes me sigh, because how can life feel so hauntingly and beautifully delicate. At the end of the day, we live our lives, and days pass and fade, memories grow and wither. But if tonight we just be, look up at the sky, share our worries, the things we lost, we can make room for the things that we can gain together, from this time.
And with that, I think my day has become more thoughtful, and I hope yours can too.
Thank you John, Potatoi☀🌙

I'll try to keep this short ❤️ I love this album so much 🥺 And I think I told you that Alone would destroy me and it really did... And it's also my favorite from the album. I can't really explain what I feel when I listen to it, but I always have this tightness in my chest. I had it when I first listened to it and I had a feeling the lyrics would make me cry and they did. It really brings me back to my quarantine days... and not to the better ones. It really has that choking, depressing feeling that quarantine had. I really love his singing in the song too 🥺 He sounds amazing, so gentle, so soft, and yet very strong (I'm literally contradicting myself but anyway)
I really liked Like Crazy too. The mv was amazing, and I read so many theories. Most of them were kinda the same, you know with the woman also representing him. Both the English and Korean versions were done so well 🥺 interlude: dive ❤️ his introduction from the busan concert❤️ oh, and the transition between the songs? Him having a drink at the end of dive, and then like crazy having this "being intoxicated in a club" vibe, and alone starting with an alarm clock... I'm obsessed with this. Also I'm SO SAD letter is only on CD 😭😭 Like I understand why, but Jimin 😭 It's my second favorite from the album, and after listening and crying to Alone, I cried to Letter too 💔 The parallels with blue & grey 😭 Shivi, the urge to get a lyric tattoo from alone or letter 😭
Also I still don't know if he's singing "please me" during Like Crazy and we will never know and it will bother me forever 😂 But anyway. He did such an amazing job, I'm so happy he could finally release this album. And I'm so happy he said he got to overcome and heal from these feelings.
Ps. Let Jimin curse on TV okay thanks that's all ❤️ -🦋

Louie Wrapped 2022 🫂🫶🏽
Thank you for tagging me @throughmycigarette @louismygf @louehvolution @28mindgames & @elceeu2morrow 🤍
Favorite song on Walls: Kill My Mind & Fearless
Favorite FitF song: Holding on to Heartache (and WAOYF and All This Time and Lucky Again and OOMS and honestly it’s still insanely hard to pick a pick a fav, seriously obsessed)
Favorite FitF single: OOMS
Favorite mv: Walls / OOMS
Most played song on Spotify by Louis: Written All Over Your Face
Favorite Louis lyrics: You know the party's over/ When you're standin' in an empty space alone/ And time can always heal ya / If you let it make its way into your bones / Nothing’s ever easy / To be honest, I’m not easy on myself (must scream shout these every single time)
I ain't even woken up yet/ Not nearly vertical (you don’t understand! this is such a poetic way of describing my life 😂)
Beforе the world, it got so serious/ Before the time, it got away from us
It's not how you spend the time, it's if you waste it
My heart might be broken/ But I won't be broken down
Okay I’ll stop now even though I have many more
Louis life lesson: Not one particular direct quote or anything cuz he says way too many profound and smart things. But his general attitude in life; of not giving up in the face of whatever brings you down, of always seeing the silver lining, of working hard and striving to reach for the stars no matter the obstacles in your path. I find that extremely inspiring and motivating and hope to emulate the same in my life (something I’m working on but haven’t achieved for sure).
Favorite Louis outfit: Absolutely impossible to pick just one! I could probably make you a collage of like top 50 though 😂 this jacket was epic though!
Tumblr media
Favorite Live Performance: The acoustic performance of Bigger Than Me on Sirius XM. He was absolute flawless when he performed Silver Tongues on Jimmy Fallon; a literal perfect performance. Left me in goosebumps and my jaw hanging on the floor when he sprung Change on us at Łódź for the first time. KMM at Santiago N1!!! I could honestly go on and on and on; he’s been so amazing all of this year!
Favorite Tour Show: Favorite that I was actually present at myself too is of course LTWT22: Istanbul 😍🥰🥹 (time of my life), and so many other favs too; there was something special in the air at Lokerse Feesten and Taormina, and of course Portland N2 was a fever dream!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s been a great year for Louis, and his louies! Hoping the next one is ever bigger and better 🫶🏽
I’m really late to this so almost everyone has already been tagged, anyone who feels like they want to do this, please feel to pretend like I tagged you! 🤍

100 days with Face
Its been 100 days since Jimin released his debut ep Face. And boy what a ride we’ve had with it!
Tumblr media
To date it has amassed over 700 million streams on spotify. One can not talk about Face without talking about the elephant in the room:
Tumblr media
#1 on the Hot 100!! The first k - soloist to achieve this and the second only k - act (bts being first). Park Jimin really did not come to play. He brought us a beautiful album, cohesive in its conception.
Let’s take a look back on his debut:
Set Me Free pt. 2 Music Video
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He introduced us to this new era with the pre - release track, Set Me Free pt. 2, and boy if you weren’t already tuned in you definitely were after this. The horns ppl, THE HORNS! 🎺 ugh love it so much. The way I stopped breathing during the second verse during the music video felt like a reset. The choreo for this song is so good, like aesthetically I’m obsessed with the synchronized movements.
Like Crazy Music Video
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like Crazy was the title track for the album and it did not disappoint. The teaser for this mv will go down in the history books. I just love this song so much. A synth - pop dream, and the dance choreo? So sensual. The way I didn’t notice what the background dancers were doing until a performance vid like 2 weeks later 👀
I’m not going to speak on all the rest of the tracks, cause the way I could go on about the soundscape for interlude: dive is kind of crazy. But I want to show some love to my fave track off this album: Face - Off.
I don’t know how to encapsulate the way Face - Off makes me feel, as an opening song it makes me pay attention. Essentially it perks up my hind brain and says hey focus on me. And its so controlled in its anger, a slow build that just makes me seethe. Cause I’ve been there, we’ve all been there, and it really really gets me. Please pleases give it a listen if you haven’t.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now this came out later and not really apart of debut but I feel like I would be doing you and me a disservice if I didn’t mention it…
'편지 (Dear. ARMY)' Live Clip
the Festa gift to make all army’s cry. So beautiful, his voice, the guitar. So good. And I’m gonna assume this was intentional but the way the album had a hardware and a software concept. And chronologically Set Me Free pt. 2 comes before Letter. His outfit in SMF is all black until the very end, the hardware aesthetic. Then in Letter he’s in all light cream, the software aesthetic. Idk maybe like can’t update the software without updating the hardware? 🤷🏼‍♀️
Jimin did a number of different promotions for his debut but I wanted to highlight my favourites:
Suchwita Ep. 7 with Jimin
PIXID ‘Find the imposter among the provincial fans (feat. BTS Jimin)’
Jimmy Fallon Like Crazy Performance
Studio Choom Like Crazy Performance
I also loved his Beat Coin ep too! Please take a look if you haven’t watched any of the content Jimin did!
But I gotta be honest my absolute favourite promotion was his weverse live (not only cause he bullied me into dancing 🤣) but because it gave me this best smile ever:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Credit to Jimimn)
To date I can’t look at the video clips of this without breaking out into a large grin too! 😊
I hope you all have been enjoying Face as much as me, but if you haven’t yet listened to it please check it out! Its such a good pop album!

Put your Spotify Wrapped on Shuffle and List the First 10 Songs
Tagged by @greenlikethesea and in spirit by @sparklyslug
pool - paramore - after laughter was my absolute favorite album of 2017, and I’ve returned to it again and again. i was never a FAN of pmore, just knew the singles, but i was totally blown away by the sound and writing on hard times when the mv dropped. i love the new wave (especially talking heads) influences they’ve been incorporating since. there’s bells in pool and they sound like the sparkle of sun on water. this is why is gonna be so weird and good!
i never told you what i do for a living - mcr - the goncharov song incredible fucking song!!! what a way to close an album! i got to hear it live in newark with @sparklyslug, @greenlikethesea, @marchionessofbones, and so many of my other friends who are less addicted to tumblr! the guitars are shrieking, gerard is doing everything from black metal screams to croons to syncopated talk-singing to keep up with a song that’s veering out of control the entire time. like gwarsenio of 2m2ln said in his interview with frank, there’s so many different ideas packed into each song on this album.
personal jesus - depeche mode - mother of all bangers. give it a listen today if you haven’t heard it in a while!
heaven help us - mcr - i understand why the black parade wasn’t a double album, but imagine a world in which this hot little number was played more regularly. it almost feels like the end credits to the tragic second act of a trilogy.
fight for your right - beastie boys - the beasties rule and this song megarules. it’s in my top 100 because it’s on my epic-length killjoys playlist! i haven’t yet incorporated the songs mentioned in the kjverse tweet archive, but @feech-phylicia has put them together HERE
brother - gerard way - literally since TUA issue 1 i’ve approached MCR’s side projects with a desire to maintain a critical eye, and like the work on its own merits and without fan goggles. hesitant alien hit in my final semester of grad school, and i genuinely love it. it’s music for a quiet crisis. it’s music for wondering what you’re supposed to do when you reach the end of your plan. if you’ve never walked around nyc in the rain at night while listening to brother, you haven’t lived, my friend.
the becoming - nine inch nails - i wish i could rhapsodize about nin the way i can about pop punk and its adjacents! i love it, but i don’t know it as intimately as i do other albums that reach my top 100.
26 - paramore - Hold onto hope, if you got it / Don't let it go for nobody / And they say that dreaming is free / But I wouldn't care what it cost me – without being flip, you can tell this is a breakup album. i love when the strings swell under the chorus.
enjoy the silence - depeche mode - i feel like i didn’t even listen to the mode that much this year, but sure! violator is an incredible album. funny enough, the first version i heard of enjoy the silence is the linkin park remix.
bloodbeat - patrick wolf - PLEASE listen to patrick wolf!!!! he was the voice of my queer adolescence, even as i remained closeted to myself.
tagging @andropogonfalons if he hasn’t been yet!

This blog is in support of the HYBE Boycott.
Tumblr media
art credit: cherrysungho on twitter
HYBE has continued to work with Scooter Braun, a well known Zionist. Scooter Braun was already previously known to mismanage/mistreat his artists so when people became more aware of his Zionist ideology it was clear we could not continue to support HYBE as long as he is an employee. HYBE has also signed a 10 year deal with UMG, whose CEO Lucian Griange, is also a Zionist.
On top of that, HYBE's artists have continually collabed with Zionists in the music industry and have collabed with BDS listed boycott companies. Fortunately BOYNEXTDOOR seems to have no connection with Zionists artists or producers so far, although they seemed to have featured on a McDonald's Japan program (?). Despite this, Jaehyun and Leehan have cheered fan letters on Weverse in support of Palestine and the boycott, so we hope the boys still have good intentions themselves.
Click here to find out more information about the boycott via Carrd. Alternatively you can also look into the #hybe boycott and #hybedivestfromzionism tags on Tumblr to learn more and find more people in support of the boycott. OR if you're a Twitter user as well you can look into the #HybeDivestFromZionism hashtag on Twitter.
This blog still posts official links as a way to archive and easily access older content but we hope that that we can prevent from anyone else feeling the need to follow them as the boycott goes on.
We recommend trying to find other ways to stream their content / music and not buying albums and/or tickets as the boycott goes on. There is information under the read more on how to consume their content during this boycott.
On an important and similar note, many HYBE artists seem to be overworked and/or neglected in some capacity by their labels (either emotionally or physically). Additionally a lot of complaints of overpricing merchandise and tickets have crossed over fandoms. This has caused concern within many of the fandoms and adds onto the lists of reasons to boycott HYBE.
Even if you don't feel like participating in the boycott somehow, which we plead that you do, please at the very least consider donating to Palestinians in need. Here you will find a list of vetted fundraisers and you can check out gazafunds as well, a site that leads you to a random fundraiser that hasn't reached its goal yet. Also, there's a donation fund made by the HYBE Divestment team you can consider donating to!
Hope you can join us in the boycott to support HYBE divesting from Zionism and most importantly supporting Palestinians! Any additional information I find about the boycott will be tagged under #hybe boycott. If you have any further questions on this matter, don't hesitate to message our admin blog.
Here are some easy ways to start consuming content without supporting them financially, whether it be HYBE, other companies, or any other artist in general:
Music: Most music apps let you listen to your local files on their app.
spotifydown. This site helps download any song and album off of Spotify easily, album cover and other data included already. I recommend this the most.
Google drives. Since the boycott has gained some attention, people often upload new albums and MVs on Google drives quite quickly. Here is a carrd bandzboy on Tumblr made of HYBE amongst other groups' music. Here is a HYBE google drive made by tteokym on Twitter. Additional google drives I find will be tagged #gd: mv.
ilKPOP. This site uploads most kpop / jpop / cpop / tpop songs. Some in better quality than others. It's a gamble sometimes and you can request songs after looking at their terms first.
SNS Content: Unfollowing official accounts and following update accounts instead. This would lessen the followers while still keeping you updated on the group.
Weverse lives: So far, people sometimes re-upload Weverse lives and translate them although it's not always guaranteed. I haven't found a BND focused one but I've found one that uploads a lot of Weverse lives in general although they're a little slow.
YouTube content: yewtu.be / invidious. A site where you can watch YouTube videos without giving them views. You can simply replace "youtube.com" to "yewtu.be" in a url to get there faster.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not particularly boycott helpful but information I'd like to share: If you add an enhyphen in-between the t and u in "youtube" in the url while watching on desktop, you can watch videos without ads. Afterwards the url will change from "youtube.com" to "youtube-nocookie.com" This still gives views I'm pretty sure but as far as I know most channels make money through ad revenue, so you wouldn't be giving them money this way. I'm not sure how to do this on mobile though.

Note
I'm not a fan of J. Will give it a chance tho after a few months. Cause I usually fall in love with songs unexpectedly i.e. they got into youtube music algorithm on a random Tuesday. Ex: Ten Water, Taeyong Gwando, and etc
Yeah, sometimes expectations or a current mood don't allow to like a song. Other times there is no resistance, and a song proves its worth. I've also noticed that many k-pop songs are not appealing with MVs (too boring/generic or repetitive for focused attention), but are OK as background music (as you tune in and tune out, doing something else). Yet other songs are OK with a performance. WayV's songs from the latest album creep on me as Spotify regurally offers them after 127.
