KNY MANGA SPOILERS (sorta)
Tumblr media
Manga panel redraw but it's my swap AU now. Still a work in progress, but I like Gyokko's design!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Close up of how he looks. He really hates his scar, thinks it puts a damper on his whole pretty thing, so he wears a mask usually! The other objects are his sword guard and blade!

You’re like the only account that I care about Ranma takes, thoughts on new Ranma anime?
Sorry for responding late but so far I really really like it!! I WAS nervous (and still sorta am) abt the pacing bc like..... How do you take 20 episodes (technically 21 but i didnt count the clip show) and make it 12... but so far it's done a good job of not cutting down anything significant enough to really hinder my enjoyment
I will say I am extremely frustrated w the state of the tv industry as a whole because as gorgeous as the remake is i DO like that the original was allowed to breathe. I know people go "but there was so much filler!!!" but i think its important to remember it was being made concurrently with the manga and you really HAVE to create filler if you catch up... but I also don't dislike filler episodes as a concept nor do i dislike the vast majority of the ranma ones or feel they're wildly ooc 🤷 i don't consider them "noncanon" (outside of the stupid ova where soun has illegitimate kids) i just think of them as events that occur between chapters. Sorry i didn't mean to go on a filler rant THE POINT IS I HATE THE 12 EP SEASON MODEL W ALL MY HEART. It works for short series and it would work okay for longer ones....if and only if there was a guarantee that it would get picked up for several more seasons
My fear is it'll either be a second incomplete anime or get the urusei yatsura allstars treatment of having the middle pretty much gutted just for the sake of being able to reach the end. I don't give a shit about seeing saffron if you aren't going to take the time to make akane's sacrifice really mean anything to the viewer. You know? Part of why it's such an effective gutpunch in the manga is because you're sort of in ranma's shoes- she has been there right from the beginning, you expect her to be present and involved, and you just assume she's always going to be there. When that's ripped away it definitely hurts to see how much it affects ranma, but it's also a loss for the viewer because, love her or hate her, you've spent SO many hours with this character by that point. I worry if you just.... take out huge chunks of the middle it won't have the same impact. I know it's a long series, but idk I kinda think if you don't spend the time then her death is more "oh no :( thats sad" in a way thats still real like mufasa or bambi's mom, but not the same as idk...... jack in titanic?
Also i'm torn on the line from akane in the second ep being changed where she's saying she doesn't want people thinking she's a pervert for being engaged to a girl to "i don't want people thinking i'm a perv who walks in on people when they're taking a bath" like.... obv i'm not mad they're trying to tone down the homophobia, and i don't have any faith a modern audience would understand that she has internalized homophobia she needs to work through- or that people in the 80s/90s were flat out saying aids was divine punishment so you probably didn't wanna advertise that you're lgbt... i totally understand the change and don't have a real problem w it but also i do think having to come to terms w the fact she's attracted to ranma regardless of the curse, if not (at least initially) BECAUSE of it, is a big part of her character development and i'm curious how an akane more relaxed from the start about being wlw is gonna feel

Attack on Prime Chapter 90: The Big Twist
Spoilers ahead if you haven't read the chapter. I recommend that you do if you haven't.
So.....
let’s talk about Primus. Eh?
So looking back on the Transformers franchise as a whole, Primus himself isn't really capitalized on. In a few of the shows, he’s only name-dropped or doesn’t even exist like TFA. In shows like TFP and the book the Covenant of Primus, he is alluded to and even given a brief backstory of his and Unicron’s origins before shifting gears to the Primes and their dynamics, but never makes an on screen appearance. He’s shown as the core and that’s it. We don’t know what he looks like in the Aligned Continuity. I think there is a toy out for him, but it was never said to be official. The only Transformers content that really explores on Primus is the IDW comics. Where Primus has aligned himself with three other transformer deities, but one of them got really angry with him for some reason and as punishment, got rid of his god powers, made everyone forget ever knowing him after he so much as left the room. (Look my info on IDW is spotty. I never got the chance to read the comics in full. Although god being a therapist is hilarious).
Besides IDW, there aren’t many interpretations or characterizations of Primus, which is a damn shame, considering we’ve always seen Unicron in almost all Transformers iterations. So it was something that I’ve always wanted to take a crack at: putting my own spin on the creator of the Transformers. I wanted to bring him into Attack on Prime, but before the AOT story was completed, I had no clue how to bring Primus into the story without it sounding so contrived and out of nowhere. I couldn’t have him pop out in the sky, tell everyone to stop fighting, and then have him leave, confusing everyone. It wouldn’t have made sense. In fact, I was all but ready to scrap the idea for AOP…until the Paths chapters dropped in the AOT manga, and I realized:
Tumblr media
And I immediately got to work on how to incorporate Primus into the story while also making it make sense. Which took a while. I’ve worked on multiple rewrites of Primus’ character and his interactions with Eren and Zeke before creating the final draft for the chapter. I started my brainstorming of my characterization of Primus in late 2019 with the document titled RELGN 132 (which was the title of a religion course I took at UCLA, so fairly on the nose). So yeah, I’ve been working on it for 4+ years.
But first let’s talk about the multiple lead up I’ve had up until this point, because again, I’m meticulous with my foreshadowing. Chapter of foreshadowing include:
Chapter 45 Chapter 69 Chapter 70 Chapter 72 Chapter 77 Chapter 81 Chapter 82 Chapter 86
(And a bunch of other additional chapter do have foreshadowing and there is a small inkling of Primus' presence, and I might explain that later, but I want to see if people can piece it together by re-reading the chapter. If not, then I'll probably just say it outright, IDK.)
But, some moments might’ve been noticeable, some not so much. I knew that I didn’t want Primus’ introduction in the Paths to feel out of nowhere. Eren and Zeke are talking and suddenly this guy just pops out of nowhere. I needed him to be alluded to, which is where the 4th notebook and Pieck come in, oh and also Unicron. Well, at least Unicron's powerset.
In the Covenant of Primus, Primus and Unicron are said to come from the same being: The One, who split apart due to its own internal conflict regarding the state of the universe. If Primus and Unicron come from the same being, they must have the same abilities. Or similar abilities at least. One of the abilities should include: using their blood to communicate with others who carry their blood. Dark energon flows through Unicron while energon flows through Primus. Through energon, all Cybertronians are connected and return to the place they spawned from after their death, regardless of how good or bad their intentions were. If this concept can apply to Cybertronian, surely it could apply to titan shifters, who’s powers even defy death itself on some level. Once all the titan shifters, or at least the Founder, had access to energon, Primus had access to them, and would have found a way to enter the Paths, either through his own power or Vector’s help, since the Paths operate outside of space time. (Primus himself will provide a brief explanation in the Paths II. And the In Between OVA that I keep bringing up, is simply AOP from Primus' perspective. God I am so happy I can say that now!)
But because the Paths operate outside of space and time and the fact that the full powers of the Founder hadn't been utilized on the flow of time, Primus lacked the tools he needs to figure out what the hell was going on or even eliminate the power of the titans. He is flung through the memories and lives of each titan shifter; however, some memories are blocked from him and he doesn’t know why. And because of Primus lack of control, he can’t properly interact with the world around him. He can only interact with other titan shifters as a distorted image. A shadow. He can’t give so much information to Kruger and Pieck. He can only provide images, hidden clues because of the barrier between them. And Primus wants to learn about the truth of the AOT world, so he sees through their eyes and listens to their stories. Even when Kruger and Pieck interact with Primus and even touch him, they are met with a warm, gentle, touch of comfort. Something to show that he is other worldly. In addition to that, the allusion to the overlap of voices, how Primus knows about even that happened thousands of years into the past, his glowing blue eyes, how he forces Kruger to feel the pain and suffering of the people he turned into titans, how Primus had called Megatron and Arcee by name before asking Pieck to believe in Optimus, proclaiming he would be the one to end the power of the titans. The longer Primus is on screen as the shadow, the more ‘in your face’ the information becomes. If you haven’t pieced together the shadow is Primus, then at the very least, you know that the shadow is Cybertronian.
Other pieces of information that are not so subtle, is actually the local therapist Rung in the Cybertron OVA. If you know your transformers lore, then you should know that Rung is Primus. That was one of the obvious bits of information that I was incorporating here. Some of the interactions that Rung has includes him not batting an eye when Starscream lashes out at him and catches the energon cube with such ease that he completely forgets to react the way a normal person would. The scene that Rung had alone where he looks at the Jackhammer in a remorse manner, almost as if he knows what’s going to happen but can’t do anything about it. Finally, when Rung places a comforting hand on Arcee, Arcee notes that the hand feels warm and comforting, and she feels a swell of emotions. Ya know, like every other interaction he’s had with humans on screen. Not to mention that Rung recommended that Arcee leave the planet on purpose because of prior knowledge of the AOT world because I’ve hinted at the fact that Primus in the story right now is from a time where the events of AOT haven’t happened yet. Right before he sends Optimus (Of course, this will be explain more cohesively within the In between OVA, which is going to focus on Primus and what’s he’s been doing throughout the AOP story).
More subtle bits of information when foreshadowing Primus’ role in the story is the drawing of Optimus Prime’s holoform, or rather Primus, from the 4th notebook. The drawing is led to believe and cement the fact that the Attack Titan can see into the future. Which is true, Primus’ appearance in the story is a future event, however, I have to make a note that what they are looking at is not Optimus. It’s Primus wearing Optimus’ face. So I had to have someone who would take notice of the way that Primus is wearing Optimus’ face. Erwin had to be the observation because he’s the only human that has been known to notice those subtle details and connections. He of course brought this up with Megatron and Megatron does notice the difference. But the drawing is not Megatron’s concern, assuming that someone trying to interpret someone from memory is going to get a few details wrong. Also, they have other priorities to take care of besides a drawing from the past. Megatron and ultimately Erwin let it go, but I’m letting the audience know, something is clearly up. Adding on top of that, Kruger has never met Optimus, but he had seen the shadow’s face before dying. That should be another indicator that it’s not Optimus. It’s the shadow. It’s Primus.
Finally, the more subtle indication of Primus’ presence in the story is the conversation that Eren and Kenshin had about the existence of gods in general. While Kenshin believes that god exists, Eren does not. He critiques god and believe god to be hypocritical while Kenshin believes that god cares and wants the creation to live freely. It’s supposed to be an engaging conversation while also hinting at the fact that Eren’s definitely going to talk to a deity with his mentality and future visions and get the crap kicked out of him.
I’m certain that I missed something but what I’ve wanted to say but the foreshadowing of Primus is there, and I wanted it to be clear. However, Primus’ characterization is something I wanted to discuss for a long time too. Again, we don’t know much about Primus’ character besides Rung, and I didn’t want him to be a stoic deity. That’s boring. I wanted to have some fun. I wanted Primus to be the complete opposite of Unicron. While Unicron is haughty and prideful, Primus is kind and humble. While Unicron loathes the idea of existence and wants death and destruction, Primus believes in life and creation. Unicron believes that everything is beneath him while Primus sees the value of even the smallest living thing. Unicron believes in working alone, and that he is the most powerful being. No one else should have his power. Primus believes in cooperation, unity, and sharing his power. Unicron wants to destroy the universe, Primus wants to be a part of it.
With that in mind, I was able to write a characterization of Primus: a gentle, kind being that cares deeply for the lives of others that may or may not even be his own. Someone who gets excited at the prospect of learning new things about new beings, someone who mourns the loss of life, and someone who gets angry at the prospect of someone wanting to take that life away. Someone who genuinely tries to understand the individual and their experiences in order to truly understand the meaning of life.
However, there is a fatal flaw to Primus. People I've talked with in the transformers fandom, myself included, have criticized Primus for his own inaction during the war. He gave the Matrix to Optimus, sure, but he did nothing to stop the War in its tracks or even stop the caste system from taking place. Why didn’t he help out Megatron and his people? Why didn’t he stop Megatron when he had gone insane? Why did he make Optimus shoulder all his responsibilities twice? Why does Primus not step in when there are life-threatening events that could destroy the universe? The very thing he values and wants to be part of? It’s very simple: Primus is an immortal deity, with powers to see beyond the veil of time and defy reality if he wanted to but chooses not to based on the safety of the whole universe and every living creature. A personal theory I've come up with is the Unicron prophecy in TFP. Unicron was set to reawaken on Earth, but Cybertron doesn’t know about Earth until the war happens. Sure, if the war didn’t happen, the caste system could have been fixed and Cybertron could have been a better place to live, but Unicron would have awakened with no one to stop him and would have destroyed the whole universe, Cybertron included. It’s an example of Primus trying to see the bigger picture and that’s where his flaw lies. When seeing the bigger picture, he ignores the sufferings of mortals who lead very limited lives compared to him. Primus has all the time in the universe to figure everything out, but not Cybertron, and not everyone else. His purpose even if Cybertron is destroyed is to battle Unicron once more. It’s an endless cycle. But Primus ends up missing the point that he wants to understand. There’s a quote from Steven Universe’s character Sapphire that encapsulates this perfectly:
“I keep looking into the future when all of this has already been solved, as if it doesn’t matter how you feel in the present. No wonder you think I don’t care.”
The meaning of life to a mortal is vastly different to that of an immortal. As a result, Primus will never fully understand them and can’t be part of the universe like he wants to. He cannot live and die like they can. But even so, he still tries to, and that’s what makes him all the more understanding. This is what I want to encapsulate for my characterization of Primus in AOP. Now he has to confront two titan shifters with their own flaws and failings: one that wishes to die, and one that wishes to destroy. And he is not happy with either of them trying to play god out of selfishness.
(There's other things that I want to discuss, like Primus' design and other actions within the story, but I think I'll take care of that tomorrow. Still if you haven't, please leave a comment. That would be greatly appreciated. And I encourage you to read back through AOP to find those clues of Primus' presence.
Not to mention, chapter 45 isn't Primus' first appearance.)

No because the more I - and many, many others think about it, why five chapters to wrap everything up? I keep thinking of reasons and only one makes sense to me, but.
BNHA is considered a world-wide best-seller, being WSJ's 6th most sold manga (last I checked, which was a few months ago). So many mangakas and artists taking notice and praising it, its big demograohic getting bigger because of its 10th anniversary in two weeks (!), more people are inclined to see it through the end. Hell, even taking out worldwide demographic, it's still very beloved in Japan- they had an entire tour event for the manga, for goodness' sake. It's a weird decision from a financial and commercial standpoint.
From a creator standpoint, Horikoshi likes taking his time writing his arcs down to the most ridiculously minimal details- the most likely possible positive outcomes is that Horikoshi is either planning a sequel or changing publishers but that's a whole leap in logic-
1. A sequel implies we aren't following the Hero Academia like stated by 424's release; and there's a whole bulletpoint of things that need to be addressed; a sequel wouldn't make sense because why tackle everything in a different part of the story?
I've seen people suggesting another MC, but. Remember BNHA as of now took place in the span of 2 years in-universe, but in real life, 10. Izuku's story isn't finished and we have another character (which now I'm certain it's Tenko) to meet, that would be more cluttered than the PLFW Arc.
Others mentioned a possible spin-off, or a time skip, but that's a another can of worms because that's a new world/POV with missing development from the characters we know, which would be interesting but. Again, a whole list of plot points to address; why not address here and now? Surely that's not what we imagined when 424 said "we need to go even further beyond" the end of the story, right? And one more thing: Volume 41 still does not have enough pages to fill in a tankobon unless the page count is huge and that's why we got a two/three-week break. Even then it doesn't fully solve the problem.
2. Publisher changing is another story, because it implies WSJ is falling on hard times, cutting corners, Horikoshi's contract wasn't renewed, or someone offered a better deal, but once again, big money-maker. Which we know it's BS. Not to mention the amount of legal jargon and time it'd take for that to happen behind the scenes for this to be possible- a month ago we got Hori saying he didn't know how long it'd take to reach the ending, and all of these complications would delay, if not officially put the series on a hiatus similar to OP, right?
And then there's the "five chapters is a long epilogue" or the argument, which I do agree, unfortunately. But this is why I'm so baffled; the amount of shit that needed to be addressed in the story- Todofam, Himichako, Spinner, Rooftop Trio, Hitoshi in Class 2-A (Class 2-A in general, really), Izuku and Katsuki's state, future and relationship, societal rebuild and re-evaluation of pro-heroes, what happens to Toshinori now, if OFA is really gone or not, Hero Commission, Mr. Compress's fate, Hawks being Quirkless now, the mystery man from 425, the list goes on and on. Nothing about hero society in BNHA was shown to change, then what's all that talk of long epilogue for if we can barely focus on five of these? So much to answer and not enough time for all.
IDK, there are more "positive"* theories of Horikoshi ending the "Academia" part of Boku no Hero and focusing on the more ambitious part of the manga in a part two, a la Chainsaw Man, but even that feels like wishful thinking- especially because of so many second series being. A mess, to put it lightly.
Horikoshi does deserve the break from writing and drawing, don't get me wrong, ten years of pumping up a story of this quality is not an easy feat, but it's so weird considering all the loose ends. If he did decide to end on his terms, well. His decision, I guess, even if it still feels off. But it is the only explanation that makes sense, in my opinion. Especially with the amount of breaks he needed to get because of health conditions- Shonen Jump is very harsh on their mangakas after all.
*I say "positive" because he said he didn't want it to be a long runner, and he did say he's interested in a BNHA spin-off and elevating the light novels. And that he'd "see us again in Jump" on the countdown announcement, so. There's that, take that as you will.
Maybe I should try and be positive as well, there is a chance this is not the end of the main series yet, and we're getting, Idk, a rebrand of sorts? Maybe Horikoshi will show up at Jump Festa and be like "surprise I got more tricks up my sleeve". Back to the beginning, but not quite the same. Hell imagine if he decided to go to the actual beginning: Boku No Hero one-shot from 2008. Call it Boku no Hero Agency or something like that. Hah.
Won't erase that I am feeling shitty about this right now- but, what do I know, I wanna choose hoping for something as wishful as this until the end of the ride rather than dwell on the doomerism of it all. Just wanted to talk about it. Makes me regret I chose to get into BNHA late in the game, but I'm still glad I got to ride in at all. I hope this "final bow" isn't gonna feel as incomplete as I fear it will.
I. Guess we'll have to wait and see with fingers crossed then. *sigh* So, with that said.
I guess I wanna hope for the handhold, at least.

haikyuu rewatch s01e04
it wont seem like it when this posts but ive been away for over a week and havent watched anything since then so im excited to get back to it
"the view from the summit" woooo
oh yeah this is the episode that starts with the quote, and i think the manga has it too? interesting, tbh this still feels a bit like furudate finding their footing in terms of how they wanna go about storytelling. i dont dislike putting the quote in at all, but the sentiment of it (that the six is stronger than the one and how a player feeling special is done for in volleyball) is shown really solidly throughout the series and in general i feel like the show is at its best when the narrative is speaking for itself, so i guess i just dont totally find the quote necessary
ooo i do like how it leads directly into kageyama's pov on his middle school moment tho. that does work pretty well
okay the fact that he literally has nightmares about it too waah
idk if we're supposed to interpret kageyama ignoring hinata while he talks about how pretty shimizu is and whether shes their manager as him being stressed about the upcoming match or just him not giving two shits about whether people are attractive or not (both of which have a fair amount of other evidence imo), and it's probably the former but i think its more fun if i imagine it's both lol
the running gag of tanaka's ear getting big whenever people talk about him ashakjs iirc one of his trivia things on the wiki is 'has really good hearing' or something lmaoo
i know im tsukishima & yamaguchi brained at all times and im super conscious about not over talking about them, but so many questions and curiosities about their dynamic at this point in the story. tsukki is trash talking and yamaguchi is like worried about it?? worried that tsukki wont make friends? or worried tsukki will get in trouble?? either way he seems surprised tsukki is doing it at all, so has he not been doing this often??? that seems odd to me too, especially when last episide yamaguchi was smirking when tsukki was talking down to kageyama. tbhhh its probably just the worried about getting in trouble thing? that (and again, furudate still finding footing about characterization) makes the most sense to me i guess
hinata: "beh!!!"
kono imagination o kakaete !!
lmao tanaka shirt lasso
shimizu seeing hinata jumpppp it never gets old seeing people react to him for the first time lol
yamaguchi standard standing float serve directly into the net and tsukki scoffing in annoyance, ohhhh how far we eventually go :') im fine
really interesting how in kageyama's flashback we see kindaichi yell and tell kageyama his tosses are reckless and whats the point if they cant even spike them, and then internally kageyama is like 'but we can't win if we can't get past their blockers.' his initial reaction is actually about the team and not about his teammates sucking at all, but then he starts to spiral thinking about losing, about not being able to play anymore, about this ending (screams in manga spoilers) and so what he actually says to kindaichi is the infamous 'move faster jump higher!' and obviously they all get offended by that. but the characterization is what's so cool to me there, his main issue here is his lack of communication—how differently would his teammates have reacted if he had just expressed the bit about not being able to get past them? and then much later in the series when he's feeling similarly trapped he does the same thing, he stops talking—except now hinata calls him out for being quiet, and they can right things again (iirc this is in seijoh 1), and i just. the attention to detail to characterization is so good!! the character threads are so consistent!!
aaaaand yeah here's hinata stating his facts. ive essentially made this post before but yeah 'hinata whose grateful for literally any toss plus kageyama terrified of his tosses being ignored equals narrative soulmates'
AAAAAAND tsukki is being a dick about itbut what he says here too says a lot about him as well. 'so straight forward and pure. how irritating' damn how was i not fascinated by these dynamics right off the bat lmao, he clocks hinata exactly and hinata's just done a positive thing, so why doesn't tsukki like it? i simply was too naive have enough faith in the show yet to think these threads would be followed up on lol
holyyyy FUCK the 'i'm here' with hinata in kageyama's eyeball with the same framing as the ignored set from middle school rraaahhh it's ART
"i'm going to do battle with this body, win and win, and be on the court as long as i can" excuse me while i go sob..
the little sound affect when kageyama does the tiny finger point bc they dont have signals yet is so funny lol
god suga is so cool. i hope kageyama thanks him in his ghostwritten memoir, so much of kageyama's eventual success is bc of him and its so coooooooool
ooohoooooo the pinpointtt
and tsukki's acting like reality itself was shattered ahasjas to him it basically was lmao
waaah kageyama is having funnnnn when was the last time he had fun playing volleyball rrraaaaAAAAHHHH furudate ily
ITS A VIEW I COULD NEVER SEE ON MY OWN AAAAAAHHHH
its been four episodes and we're already starting to see this come to fruition—and yet it only keeps getting better!! this show is insane

i rewatched some of naruto via a fan edit recently.
its supposed to make it better... and it does remove the terrible 'jokes' that made me cringe even at 14 and generally improve the pacing.
but tbh its still terrible cuz fundamentally the story kishimoto wrote is bad
if i'd been a smarter kid i wouldve realised it wasnt going to go well when it kept having those world building info dumps (with diagrams!) that bring the narrative to a screeching halt. esp considering these are kids who should know like… basic geography.
(au where after naruto saves iruka he still doesnt graduate because he knows absolutely jack shit, displayed a complete lack of judgement, is completely unqualified for the role and! stole state secrets! lol)
despite that there is enough there that i can see why i got so invested in it. and why the wave was my fave arc. and also why i started to lose interest near the end of the chunin exams.
idk a story about child soldiers being taught by ex-child soldiers is interesting to me. a story where the world seemed to be driven by politics between nations who functionally use their child-soldier-villages like nuclear deterrents. villages driven by clan politics and eugenics in a desire to make the ultimate murder machine.
a world where you no matter how many dragons made of water u can summon, u can still be taken down by smart tactics and academy level techniques. a world where someone who can shoot fire from their mouth at will is a bit player compared to the guys whose power comes from money and politics.
did i mention the eugenic shit going on with blood line techniques? man that coulda been INTERESTING. shit. like i really thought it was gunna explore the trauma that all this shit involves esp when such a big deal was made of narutos childhood. but kishimoto doesnt really care about that.
and i still cant believe he made itachi a good guy. what the fuck dude. he murdered an entire clan of people!! entire families. children. babies. and then he horrifically tortured his brother. twice! dfsdfsdfs but its ok. because………….. listen. its ok now :) dw about it. <- (that was when i peaced out of the manga) i rly thought after haku naruto was genuinely going to start questioning shit. i mean i thought his whole revelation there was 'we are just tools to be used and discarded and thats awful' and not 'child soldiering is only bad when u dont treat them niceys :(' especially when the chunin arc has the hokage go 'i dont care if u die horrfically during this, im just trying to promote our assassination business lol' <- *kishimoto voice* dont think too hard about this

I think its so cool that you have your work in so many stores! Do you have any tips on how to get art into a local storefront? I've been wanting to do it and cold called two businesses once, one straight up said no and the other seemed interested until I gave my pricing (maybe it was too high? idk). I have keychains and stickers that would go well in game shops I feel like
Thank you so much! I am actually quite lucky to live in an area where there are many opportunities for independent artists like myself.
I actually have been rejected by a few places, and I tried contacting a store with their applications open THREE times and never got a response, and even tried my local manga shop that sells a variety of anime and japanese culture goods but they said they currently had no intentions of working with local artists. So you're not at all alone!
There are SO MANY places nowadays that are open to artists. Small business, bookstores, coffee shops, cafes, comic/manga/game stores, nerdy stores, artist collectives, markets, conventions, galleries.
Try to get connected with artists in your area, they might know of places and things you've never tried. please make sure you have a portfolio ready to show ANYONE that includes your main focuses and best works. If you're going in person, please bring some of your products to show as examples.
Please make sure you have bio/description of your brand/services ready to go "I am candiirabbit, a self-taught illustrator. Creating cute and whimsical art in a nostalgic retro anime style. Pulling inspiration from rabbits, jfashion, magical girls,  and fairy tales, I make a variety of goods and art that celebrates the magic in life." you want to make sure you use descriptors that encompass your style, products, themes, etc to make it easy for them to understand quickly what you're offering.
Some places will have you rent a space with possible extra commission fees. (e.g. $25/month + 10% fee on sales) Some will go by consignment, which will be you get the majority of your sales, while the store keeps whatever percentage you've agreed on. (e.g. 60/40) Some will buy wholesale, so you will make your money upfront in that purchase, but it might not be as much as other routes, but it is a guaranteed sale.
People recommend AROUND 30-50% your retail price is general wholesale price. This will differ from person to person, you decide. Please make sure you know what your production cost is so that you are not losing money. (e.g. $10 production, $20 wholesale, $30 retail) This helps to make sure you're still making money even through wholesale, especially if you have a lot of expenses in your art business. Please make sure you have a list of wholesale prices ready IF YOU ARE OFFERING WHOLESALE. Generally people will have a minimum purchase for wholesale like $100+.
There is another option if you don't have many places in your area. Some collectives and stores will have artists from out of state or another country mail their goods to them. Usually I find that these places will be VERY strict with quality and theme/aesthetic/styles, so please be aware of that.
Some places will have you creates your own set up and displays. You might even have to package and label your own goods in a professional way. And always remember business cards!
I hope this was helpful, please reach out if I missed something! Good luck and have fun!

Can you help me understand? Why's MHA so bad with discrimination? It's embarrassing how bad it is!
Sorry about sitting on this ask for months but I wanted to get everything in order cause this is a long one!
MHA fence sitting on injustices
My hero tries so very cutely so solve injustices in it's media and does it poorly by having it either happen offscreen or barely addressing it to actually try fixing later. (More under read more)
Tumblr media
Things ended so perfectly for the mutants, and all because Shoji told the mutants fighting injustice that they should...stop. Oh shoji, we should talk about his character and the treatment of him and hor Hori just skims the issues with mutant treatment.
A little background, Shoji here literally has no character, it's so bad to the point Hori didn't know how to design his room with the excuse of "Oh I don't have many worldy desires."
Tumblr media
what kid talks like this? He doesn't even have training gear or extra mask, or any hero posers- pretty easy to say that hori just didn't have anything planned for a while. Which fair, he had a whole cast of students from two classes, and pro and teachers so...fine right? What was weird is the lack of characterization for several seasons with this character.
Tumblr media
So it turns out he wears the mask cause he was heavily scarred and attacked by a mod of adult prejudices as his backstory, didn't want to talk about it nor mention it till it was relevant for him to fight for the side of injustice! He mentions kids being murdered for having mutant DNA! And at first Hori is making a good point here that prejudice is real, there are people who murder, belittle, and treat very real people horribly for the ways they look.
(They also apparently talk about this once and...that's it? as a POC person it's never just ONCE, X-men brings it up very well that fence sitting is not acceptable if you care about the lives of mutants, you can't be passive on injustice!)
This is a very sympathetic and relatable bit of characterization- so its embarrassing that Horikoshi uses it to justify said prejudices...Oho I can't wait to explain this one!
Setting writing back 30 years.
At some point in the future Shoji, again the character who barely gets to express himself as a character? Fights spinner, a character similar to him as that he's a mutant and gets very little screentime and engagement in the show/manga. Spinner is told multiple times he's useless and stupid and even one of his allies in Dabi calls him what the MHA mutant KKK call him. A lizard.
Tumblr media
"But Dabi's a villain." I'd probably hear people say- Yeah...so were the KKK, doesn't mean you can't be prejudice, and Dabi here shares said prejudice attitude towards mutants that many of our heroes do.
Tumblr media
His brother calls the chief of police a mutt after they break some major laws that could of gotten them killed, and later he even sees that this officer (even tho we don't stan pigs here!) was helping them and he even states he thinks he should apologize...guess the did that offscreen, like they do everything.
Shinso calls Ojiro a monkey and yet people ship them, idk how much they look cute together I wouldn't ship anyone with a person calling me outside my name. Now do I think they're full on prejudice? No but they shouldn't also get to let this slide because people like them. (Would of been nice to let Ojiro beat Shinso in a spar as recompense.) but Hori loves letting most of it slide, no one calls out Shinso, Dabi or his brother and tells them to chill. Even Deku gets in on some fence sitting.
This tall woman's getting attacked by heavily armed citizens with support weapons in her introduction- Deku jumps in and tells them to calm down, with them walking away saying the below. Like she can change that.
Tumblr media
Now this is a great way to show that prejudice is wrong and that Deku doesn't jive with that shit. I would of had Deku break their support gear, and tell them to find shelter instead of taking matters into their own hands and attacking indiscriminately.
But Deku lets them walk away with deadly weapons that can kill. And when the tall woman tells him that she was trying to find safety and that she was scared by these jackasses, Deku doesn't sympathize with her- he says this!
Tumblr media
This poorly worded drivel reads exactly how it does on the page, it comes across as justification for the public attacking innocent mutants based on looks instead of telling them that they were in the wrong? She even gets turned away from many other shelters denying mutants!
I'm aware that many villains attacking heroes at this point ARE mutants but, she's unarmed, begging them to stop, and a guy lines up a killshot before blaming her for how she looks; then our hero goes "Well we're all scared!" Thanks!
That's like me telling X-men's nightcrawler who was about to be murdered by racist. "Well both sides were scared." This is the ultimate fence sitting! Not to mention it's established early on that mutants aren't allowed in certain shops and get slurs and rocks thrown at them; people assume the worst of them and there are even times where some are confused for villains and attacked like Gang orca.
But if you're an attractive enough mutant like Hawks and Miruko you can get away with being a mutant- it's the equivalent of Hollywood saying they'll hire more black people and only hiring the light skinned black individuals. Which could be an interesting discussion to have; The fertilization of mutant quirks, desirable ones vs ones that people show hate towards. Obviously people don't show the same type of prejudices towards Hawks and Miruko vs Shoji and Orca.
This all culminates into the MHA war arc in which many out of pocket things happen, like Hori uses the black lives matter movement and ROCK LOCK- THE ONLY BLACK HERO IN MHA (there's not even any black students and background heroes.) And the mutants turn to him and say things like "we aren't looters" WHAT!? And even worst
Tumblr media
"You would never understand." A black person would never understand prejudice? Even if MHA was an idealize world, it's based off our own world and rock lock again is the only one, and them turning to him and saying this comes off as tone deaf. Like why rock lock? How many heroes have glue, tape and adhesive powers that could of had this scene? Not saying I don't want Rock lock, I'm saying having a black person be told they don't get prejudice based on how they look is....idiotic.
And it just gets worse! Shoji finally gets screentime to tell people to stop fighting against injustice.
Tumblr media
He finally gets something and it's to tell spinner to stop fighting mutants getting slaughtered, to stop letting heroes and the police sit on their hands and do nothing- everyone knows that if you wanna be good second class citizens and get equality, you have to wait patiently and quietly till people deem you good enough to EARN it.
He does talk about the cycle of violence, but the problem is....hori never has a person like Todoroki or Deku turn towards regular people and tell them that THEY should be ashamed of how they treat mutants as well.
It's so easy to turn towards marginalized people radicalized into fighting against prejudice, but man is it on so hard to turn to the people being shitty and not saying a damn thing! My hero does this so poorly, the people who hurt mutants never have to address their prejudices and they never get called out, or are made to change out of kindness- they just get away with it.
And it ends again as we see at the beginning of this post- offscreen! Shoji brings peace to many mutant locations and we're just supposed to be fine with no one putting in effort but the mutants themselves.
It's the biggest fence sitting the series does, completely putting the onus of change on the mutants! It's a shame too, cause MHA had potential! But it'll end up as a series that just barely involves itself in the struggle and many mutant characters barely get to grow and prove anything.
Thank you for reading all the way if you did.

I'm putting this out to vent because I need it laid out, especially since it's pretty obvious from the Naruto opinions blog which side they're on. That blog has had so much Sasuke fandom hate that legit has no basis to it. It feels like legit lies, and it attacks our fanbase, particularly, which I find nefarious. To talk about a fanbase and claim it to he racist without any sort of receipts is a humongous accusation and I have half a mind to want to report if not for the fact that I know Tumblr won't do anything about it...perhaps I will. Idk. But this accusation is not an opinion. It's an accusation and if you clearly have met someone like this, someone who has racist takes then perhaps you should report them instead of putting it on a blog that claims to be an opinions blog and generalize an entire fandom or a portion of them to be like this. We are not racist. I know many POC and black fans of Sasuke, and nobody I know has ever thought, claimed this sort of accusation and opinion on Killer Bee. Hell, this opinion of Bee being an aggressive black man has got no basis in the manga/anime! He is the most chill black man there is! If anyone said this, they would literally laugh!
EDIT: After writing this, I decided to report that post. It's literally a libel post against the Sasuke fandom. There is literally no basis to it and OP wants to pretend it's an opinion about general experience. If you got a bad experience be more specific and what's more report them or call them out. It's really that simple! Everybody's experience is not the same but to make a general statement that bottles almost half the fandom as "racist" just because of one or two bad experience is literally... defaming the fandom! I'm sorry it is!
As a POC, and when you say something like that, do you have any idea how unsafe, hurt, and angry can make some people participating in the fandom? You don't put something like that and call it an opinion because it's not. It's an accusation verging on defamation against a group of people just because you had what one or two bad experiences with people.
I've had some bad experiences with people in other fandoms. You're not gonna hear me claim that a fandom is this or half the fandom is this just because of that one or two experience! I'd be attacking an entire fandom that way with an accusation that had nothing to do with them
This post is NOT the only post that has been accusing and posting lies about the Sasuke fandom. It literally mocks the Sasuke fandom for rightfully being angry. You can check the blog right now. It's the most recent post on its blog.
Right after the moderator of said blog posts that it won't be putting any more replies because it's gotten "heated"
Because God forbid someone is angry at you for posting libel and calling it an "opinion".
I mean, omg, you got pushback for literally stating that there's a group in a certain fandom that is racist and think "oh this is just gossip?"Oh, I'm just saying my opinion or talking about an experience and saying yeah the entire fandom is that way."
And the negative Sasuke posts keep coming because I looked back at it again, and there's clearly an anon there with an agenda against the Sasuke fandom. And nowhere there is a defense against this. The other side apparently has no say on this blog. And by other side, I mean the Sasuke fandom. OP closed replies because it got heated.
and tbh there's rarely a positive post about any of the Naruto characters, certainly not Sasuke, in a blog that is called the " Naruto General Opinions" blog. What is so general about this blog? It seems to side heavily on one opinion over the other. Right after posting a negative Sasuke fandom post that accuses the fandom of racism, anti-blackness, and micro-aggressions of black people with the baseless claim that Sasuke stans say that Killer Bee is an aggressive black man which I have seen that absolutely no where and even the claim of Killer Bee has no support in the manga so why would anyone say that? But right after posting that, they won't be putting any sort of heated replies because, again, people got anger, why? This person posts about Sasuke "bad decisions" as if characters aren't allowed that, and we all gotta stand perfect characters who do pretty much nothing.
Basically, we should all stand Hinata since you don't get a more inoffensive character than that, right?
Also what is anon talking about? You think we're angry at people criticizing Sasuke's decisions. People have been criticizing Sasuke's decision since day on. Hell the post creates another falsehood about why Sasuke stans are angry.
Y'all called us racist and anti-black. As a POC, Idk whether to laugh or be angry at such baseless claims and I'd again rant about why but I've probably repeated myself a number of times on why I feel like that post is nothing more than libel especially since OP wants to pretend that it's an opinion of an experience that a number of times could've been much more clearer but isn't, and defame an entire fanbase as that way.
OP wants to pretend they care about safe-spaces but they do not. Their lack of clarification and the majority of their anon posts of "general Naruto opinions" being basically negative, not just to the Sasuke community but to many character fanbases such as Sakura, Hinata, Naruto etc tells you everything. And it's the fanbases that are generally attacked and mocked. Never anything about the characters.
OP has a post pinning Sakura and Hinata against each other...
Is it any wonder people think the Naruto fandom is so toxic?
In writing this vent, I relooked at the blog and found yeah I agree with some of the takes the blog has but as a Sasuke fan who feels very attacked, especially when a majority of posts about Sasuke are negative in a blog that claims to be about general opinions of Naruto, I can't help but sympathize with Sakura and Hinata fandoms and any other fandom that has been criticized. How ostracized they must feel when there's a blog claiming to be about general opinions of Naruto, but it's about them...
Like opinions are not...general. A majority of us don't share the same opinions. We're all different and we absorb and express content in different way. While annoyance and irritation of how some people absorb and express content is valid, it's quite something else to post these opinions in a blog that claims to represent the general Naruto fanbase.
And even if the majority do feel the same way...is it fair for the minority to be excluded? Is it fair to have one blog be the space of "opinions," especially when the majority are nothing more than toxic angry anti takes
And again, some of these anti takes, I do agree on...but I'm going to be honest, I will never reblog from them because no way do I think my opinion is just a general opinion especially when it excludes a group of people in the fandom who may not agree. I will reblog from blogs that have similar opinions to mine and backs them up with evidence.
If you have these sorts of opinions, post it on your own blog. A general opinion blog is honestly not necessary...it's clear everyone has different opinions about different things... I mean...it's Tumblr. Unless sourced and backed up by proof, it's just an opinion.
But opinions can be hurtful and verge on to seemingly defamatory when opinions feel like falsehoods, especially when it's not backed by proof. I've looked, and many others have looked to see where this claim of Killer Bee being an aggressive black man comes from, and...it's nowhere!? And OP will not ask or show proof because apparently it's an "opinion about an experience.". If you're gonna put baseless accuations of opinions there, I'm gonna tell you what that's called. It's called libel. Spoken, it would be slander. And all of it is just defamation against an entire fanbase who likes a character you don't like.
And as the moderator of that blog, which frankly I find them questionable and toxic in many ways, they have a responsibility to ask for clarification because spreading lies about a certain fandom base is not right. It's not. Clearly, the blog is very biased, but it verges on harassment and abuse and a hate campaign against an entire fanbase of a character they don't like.
Like I don't think I'm over-inflating, this becomes I personally feel like my character has been attacked by this. I don't write metas or analysis. I've been thinking about it... but it almost feels like both OP and Anon want to silence an entire fanbase because they just don't agree, and they do so with this slander!
This isn't just about the Sasuke fanbase. This is also about every fanbase in the Naruto community. Racism is serious so if an accusation is made, we have a responsibility to answer it and separate ourselves from that or at least if we've engaged in such behavior, to better ourselves for other members in the larger Naruto fandom.
This is just a rant I needed to get out, but I'm deciding to take action. I've had some friends that have been hurt and have seen some defamatory statements online about the Sasuke fanbase and I will no longer stand idolly by. It's one thing to insult and criticize my character, you are entitled to your opinion, but when someone is attacking my character for liking a character they don't like, expect some pushback.
I came into the Naruto fandom because I like Naruto, the manga, and anime. I didn't come in to be harassed for liking a character you don't like. Feel free to rant about it on your own blog, but the moment you spread lies, especially on a blog that claims to be a blog about "general naruto opinions"is the moment I can't stay silent about this.
Okay, I'm gonna end my rant here. I've wasted enough time thinking and writing this, but I mean it when I said, I've had enough when lies start coming into the picture.
EDIT 2: I've decided to take out screenshots because I'm unsure if I should put screenshots. It could be wrong or taken wrong.

Hey i was rereading some yohaji chapters mainly the train arc(can you call it an arc?!?idk) for.... reasons...like trying to find a specific panel....and i ended up on the festival chapters instead, specifically the bit where the principal and ranmaru go through the escape game. And i noticed on chapter 62 that ranmaru says something odd.
He says that one of the students(i think hes talking about the students, he says kid so im assuming its a student) looks familiar, and he thinks they met a long time ago when he was still a god. (I also dont know which student hes talking about here, im bad at remembering their name and what type of youkai they all are)
Do you have any idea whats hes talking about
I apologise if youve said something about this before or if this means nothing and its been solved in the manga and ive just forgotten that its been said before.
(Its almost 1am, as im about to send this there are 7 minuetes unill 1 am, rn so my brain isnt working verry well, i also hope ive sent this ask to the right person-the one who usually translates yohaji as ive been typing this for a bit now and forgot if i pressed the right profile, i think i did)
oh wow this is an essay of an ask
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
so the "ranmaru sees someone who was a god 1000 years ago" thing is usually lumped together with the "ebisu has a spy" thing from ch54, because while it isn't explicitly stated they're connected, both are referring to someone in class secretly being a god/former god (besides sano obv), and if they're talking about 2 different people that's too many.
this is still very much a mystery and there hasn't been direct reference to it besides these 2 times, so your guess is as good as mine, and most people i've talked to have a different guess of who it is, as well as the general consensus guess shifting over time
personally, i've gone into why it could be kurahashi in the 2nd half of this post, but there's also plenty of things that could debunk that idea, it's just the one with most evidence for it right now
here's also these 2 process-of-elimination charts, 1st for who ranmaru could have seen based off that qipao, 2nd for whose parents we haven't seen/don't know the confirmed status (unlike how we know odawara doesn't have parents and just came into being etc)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(dont mind that theyre 2 different shades of grey. i made them on different days lol)
because of the 2 pieces of info that the mystery person is a god and over 1000 years old, anyone whose families we've seen and has a confirmed age (aka we've seen them as kids at some point) is automatically out. there's also that this mystery person was delivering clothes to the guys' changing room, so i think all the girls are out too.
just those 3 things eliminates basically everyone other than kurahashi and the ogata twins. of course, it could still be (one of the?) ogata twins, but i feel like that's a little.... iunno.... feel like they're the red herring....
still, there's the detail that the principal knows something, or at least has a guess, which i don't really know what to make of. (easy for him to say! he's got the records of all the students!)
personally, i think the "maybe it's a chance likeness" line doesn't really mean anything, and is just ranmaru trying to change/drop the subject after principal disagrees with him, but i could also be wrong about that.

thank you for being so kind >-< i never like rambling problems bc i am very apathetic when it comes to well, anything dealing with anyone else's problems so i never meant to ramble out to you I'm still so sorry ;-; it won't get less stressful per se, I'm graduating in December and getting my PhD (or at least want to) so i have applications for that and scholarship and grant writing for more research projects <///33 I'm too much of an overachiever for my own good <//333 BUT ENUFF on that i refuse to be sad and wallow in an unproductive state so i will instead talk about something else.
What are some of your least favorite romance/shoujo tropes in anime and in manga? Whether it be bl stories, yuri, webtoons, mangas, anything! I shall go first~ (of course i will ask you what are your faves are in the next ask~)
My least favorites
Tsunderes.
i KNOW it's so common to have it and kuudere and tsunderes are very similar but GAH I HATE TSUNDERES SO MUCH because it's usually used as a he or she is a total bitch but don't worry guys it's bc they are shy <3 LIKE WHOT. yes yes they get "warmer over time" but this is why i had to stop watching kaguya-sama love is war because i can't stand that show i couldn't 😭
Needless pining, the "chase"
see kaguya-sama love is war (sorry to flame this show but it's also a perfect example). I know people say the development gets started in the second season and i know it's like critical acclaim and popularity is deserved blah blah but idk man, the first season just turned me off SO MUCH that i haven't been able to pick it back up ESPECIALLY THE END ARC AT LIKE THE FESTIVAL idk i just pining and missed chances and mind games i can only do for like 2 episodes but after that i NEED TO SEE SOME PROGRESSION otherwise i get so annoyed
Starts off a bitch, gets better
could be put in the same category as a tsundere but this gets its own category because bl mangas fucking love this trope and i hate it like i know everyone loves BJ Alex, and are probably fawning over Jinx right now but GOSH i could never read either because i just like I DONT GET IT IF ASSHOLE WHY HE GET LOVE???? i do nawt care if he had some traumatic life experience YOU DONT GET TO BE A ASSHOLEEEEEEEEE. And this doesn't count as enemies to lovers because usually in that one they're both dicking each other over and it's mutual versus like nice guy simp gets trampled on.
Okie now your turn <33333 (if you dont' have any i will look like such a bitch asfdasdfasdf)
-lavender anonie~
You're welcome 💖 I'm always here to help everyone who needs to be listened and understood ✨. OOHHH nice!!! congratsss so you have to give your everything until December... and then apply to a PhD? (I'm sorry I don't quite get the educational system over there) and how many more years is that?
Hahahahah Such an interesting topic! haha least fav first and then our faves 🤣 ok.. let's see: "Tsunderes"... it depends if they are annoying because sometimes there are Tsunderes that are charming and adorable with a spicy feisty side... those I enjoy, but the ones that only scream and act rude or mean for no reason... I pass. The "pinning", I enjoy it when there is real tension and life actually, either pulls them apart or together (not the random unrealistic "coincidences", I like it if it is believable or one of the characters needs to fully develop before confessing (I need to see them accepting themselves before accepting the love of others) if pinning is well done the ending is well deserved in the long run. The "starts off as a bicth" Yeah I don't like it, I DO enjoy good enemies to lovers because both have very distinct goals or morals but then understand the other's point of view. But if the character is just a bitch for being one without further character development... I don't like that.
In my case I don't have "least fav tropes" but I see these types of content/story/character... I'm closing the page right then and there: Power abuse, gaslighting, mental health being treated as an "accessory" (not depicted as seriously and delicately as it should be dealt), I don't hate it but it is not my fav the "love at first sight" ... I need to see and feel the foundation of a relationship before realizing it is love. and my biggest turn of is if the characters are super annoying or super ..what I call "empty pretty and annoying" Im sorry they could be the prettiest in the universe but if they don't have a personality and are annoying... is a big NO.

Naruto is not a love story. Naruto is a shonen manga written for 12-16 years old boys.
moot point. what is the point of bringing this up when we are already having the discussion about ships? if this was going to be your counter-point then why make a post about romance in the show in the first place?
and sure, it is primarily a shōnen manga but if kishimoto had plans to make a next generation series about the children of the main characters, he could have put a bit more thought into making the parents relationships stick together a bit better than whatever we ended up with.
then again, if chouji and karui can be made canon then i guess you can say any two characters in naruto could've married each other and made sense ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Naruto and Sasuke are like brothers
you say that they were written as brothers by Kishimoto from the start which is already wrong. they were written as rivals which kishimoto states here
Tumblr media
sasuke never saw naruto as a brother. they were each other's closest friend. what sasuke recognised in naruto was the same strength that itachi had and something he admired them both for. this had nothing to do with him feeling the same towards both of them.
Tumblr media
and even when confronted with the fact, sasuke denies it.
Tumblr media
this post explains how homosexual subtext is ignored when it comes to naruto and sasuke and how the idea of them being simply brothers/friends is cast aside through unreliable narration.
"They tend to describe them as ‘friends’ for the very reason that homosexual subtext is often overlooked. Precisely because people assume heterosexuality is the norm. Moments some fans would observe as romantic if one of them was a girl get completely dismissed by blatant ignorance."
and this point has been proven many times where narusasu moments were copy and pasted with a hetero pairing instead and that somehow made it romantic. but with two guys, suddenly its reduced to nothing more than brotherhood and friendship.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
"Naruto describes Sasuke as his brother."
Tumblr media
"He denies this later—which concludes that he, at least, doesn’t view Sasuke as his brother."
Tumblr media
"He goes on to call him his one and only best friend."
Tumblr media
"More than once."
"But Sasuke doesn’t believe him. Sasuke is very demanding, Sasuke wants to hear the truth because he knows exactly that they aren’t just friends."
Tumblr media
"It’s pretty evident that Sasuke is aware that there is more than just friendship. Otherwise, he wouldn’t insist that Naruto explains what his understanding of the term “friend” is. Sasuke knows what friend means, but he doesn’t know what friend means to Naruto because Naruto’s actions can’t be easily waved aside as “that’s what best friends do for each other.” It almost seems like Sasuke wants Naruto to confess his love. Naruto isn’t able to describe their deep bond in words and says it hurts to see Sasuke suffer."
It's just a fanfic and nothing else
so you say i used a shitty argument for nh & ss but this is your argument for narusasu? lol
idk if we read the same manga because its not like the entire manga revolved around naruto trying to bring sasuke back home and risking his entire life, ready to throw away all his dreams, in order to die with sasuke?
Having few pages doesn't mean bad development
you clearly missed my point because this is not what i said. what i meant was that shikatema (a ship with two minor background characters) had great development, they both were shown to have interest in each other and in the end, their canon relationship made sense. so if this was possible with even less screen time than naruhina had, why would the main character not have ANY of this with the person who he was going to end up with?
the answer is simple, kishimoto didn't plan for nh to be canon and this was why their relationship felt forced. from this interview we can tell that nh was decided very late into the story and Kishimoto used neji as a "cupid" to give nh some faux development.
Hinata was a crucial point in Naruto's fight with Neji, in the Pain arc and also during the war
this post gives a great explanation as to why the scenes you mentioned have nothing to do with naruhina's romantic development.
"In the beginning, Hinata was used for her relation to Neji. She was made to act as the audience’s inside narrative running up to the importance of Neji’s role as a rival in the Chunin exams. Neji standing for views that Naruto despised and treating Hinata as outrageously as he did gave Naruto something to fight against, it birthed a personal grudge and conflict between the two. That was as far as Hinata’s role in Naruto’s personal plot-line went in part one"
Tumblr media
Many rate her fight against Pain as her biggest accomplishment, as well as her significance on the plot but they rely on filler… Canon content of the battle consists of two panels of “fighting” – i.e. her attempting and failing to lay a finger on him – before she was knocked out cold, then stabbed. The furthest anyone can argue on her relevance in part two was her intention to save Naruto. Which she didn’t… She got in the way and caused Naruto trauma, resulting in him unleashing the Kyūbi. Had it not have been for Minato, Kurama would have destroyed the Leaf.
Tumblr media
not only this, but she admits that what she is doing is selfish - she isn't there because she thinks she can help save naruto but because of her self-centred idea to sacrifice herself in the name of one-sided love.
Tumblr media
and as for the final panel you mentioned, I really don't know what to say about your interpretation of "development". because for me, standing over your dead cousin's corpse and thinking "naruto's hand is so big and manly" is not it.
Tumblr media
And what you said about Naruto being in a genjutsu and because of that he fell in love with Hinata, I really didn't understand it
if you've seen the movie, you would have seen that naruto was under the influence of a genjutsu. first plot hole, naruto should not be affected by a genjutsu because he is a jinchuriki. clearly, the writers can twist the laws of the naruto universe whenever they want to, just to make a ship "make sense".
secondly, in the genjutsu naruto was shown all the moments between himself and hinata during the show. he is repeatedly called 'stupid' or 'an idiot' for not noticing her feelings. he looks guilty during the entire encounter and only after this does he show an interest in her. this was not naruto naturally returning her feelings because he genuinely liked her. it was him being guilt-tripped and doing it out of pity.
But the thing is that Kishimoto wanted [sasuke and sakura] to be together
really? if he wanted them to be together why would sasuke try to kill her multiple times for no other reason than her getting in his way? with naruto, sasuke had a reason for killing him. naruto was the only person left in the world who sasuke considered as someone special. if kishimoto wanted sasusaku to be together, why would he write sasuke saying he has "no reason to like [sakura]" just a few chapters before suddenly making them canon?
Tumblr media
"he wanted them to be canon" is such a weak argument. he's the story's creator, so of course he can make whatever scenario he wants in the story. that does not mean we as readers can't find flaws within his storytelling.
It's easier for him to make the gesture of love he learned from his brother than to actually say "I love you"
at this point i'm starting to wonder if you've even read the manga... the forehead poke from itachi is meant to put distance between himself and sasuke. it was itachi's way of gently pushing sasuke away as he never had time for his younger brother.
when itachi is reanimated and sasuke knows about the truth, itachi is finally able to close the distance between the two of them and places their foreheads together, eliminating the need for the forehead poke.
Tumblr media
so when sasuke uses it on sakura, it is a sign of placing distance between the two of them, the same way itachi would do when they were younger. this post explains things more clearly but still carries the same idea.
i will finish off this post with a quote from kishimoto
“Sasuke is always in the corner of my mind. Naruto and Sasuke progress as a pair. So when I write about Naruto, I always have to think about Sasuke. They are on opposite sides of the spectrum, like yin and yang.”
NaruSasu is not a bad ship, the problem is that Naruto fandom decided to make it as if it was religion. If you support any other ship with Naruto and Sasuke you are immediatly attacked, and the most shocking thing is that some people truly believed that Naruto and Sasuke would be together in the end. As if NaruSasu would be romantically canon. I mean, really? Did you really think it would happen? Really? In our homophobic 2000s world?
I'm not saying that if it was canon that it would be a bad thing, actually, I think it would be amazing cause they do have chemestry even though I don't ship it. What I'm saying is that we should have some common sense here. It would never happen.
The fact that Sakura and Hinata are getting so much hate just prove it. Even Karin gets hate sometimes. People are completely frustrated that Naruto and Sasuke are not fucking each other canonly. They are attacking female characters for nothing. Really, all your arguments are just stupid and I'm tired of people distorting the main plot of the manga. I'm tired of people pretending that Naruto and Hinata didn't have their moments together when they do have. If you don't like it then that's okay, it's your problem, but they do have important developments together whether you like it or not.
I agree that Sakura and Sasuke together has some problems the same way as NaruSasu, and it is one of the reasons of why I don't ship it because I think Sasuke is extremely toxic. But I'm really tired of people pretending that Sakura got pregnant with her finger as if Sasuke has nothing to do with it. People keep saying they are stuck in unhappy marriages, and that Naruto and Sasuke were forced to marry them like, really, what prove do you have about it? Because if no one sends me manga panels made by Kimishomoto himself showing Sakura and Hinata pointing knives at Sasuke and Naruto forcing them to get married, then I'm not gonna believe you.
Tumblr media
And don't start with that shitty argument about Neji's death and Naruto feeling forced into something, there's no way to prove anything through this except that Neji was an important person for both of them. Anything else is just your distorted perception.
Tumblr media
I'm also thinking about making a long post analyzing Sasuke character explaining that he does have difficulty showing love because of the traumas he suffered and how this reflects on his relationship with Sakura and their daughter. After all, you can't kick a dog and expect it not to bite anyone. But only if I'm in a good mood to do it.

People will really say with such fucking conviction a completely incorrect interpretation of Shigaraki as a character. It’s so funny to me… ig because that’s part of the point of his character? He’s constantly overlooked and talked down to and never listened to despite openly stating his desires and his motives from the very start—even by characters like AFO who certainly think they know him.
Anyway. There’s this rlly common thought that Shigaraki’s biggest toxic trait as a boyfriend would be possessiveness or being controlling and tbh… that’s just not an aspect of his personality? One of his biggest traits as the League’s leader is that he’s not controlling at all… in fact he holds himself to a much higher standard in terms of loyalty than he does the others. For the most part he lets them all do whatever the fuck they want and trusts that they’re loyal, so interpreting him as controlling/possessive is a fundamental misunderstanding of his character imo. He’s patient and he remembers things about what his allies want; it got cut from the anime but in the manga he lets Spinner full-on attack him and yell at him and genuinely listens to what the guy is saying while he does it, and then takes the League on a field trip to take out a cult of anti-mutant extremists to actively show Spinner that he was listening. Those aren’t the actions of someone who’s controlling or childish...
Idk. I think there r childish & toxic aspects to the way he’d view romance (obviously, he was raised by AFO ffs of course there’d be fucked up elements to his affection) but ultimately of all the villains save for maybe like. Mr Compress. I think Shigaraki (certainly later on in the story) would be one of the most healthy partners lmfao. And in terms of possessiveness... I feel like he’d be too secure in his relationship to even bother. like ur dating him, it’s a given that you’re his and he’s yours, so he’s not about to give a shit about you hanging out with anyone or even disappearing for days at a time
And again its more amusing than anything to me, because it feels more like a “well he’s the main villain so he must have these toxic traits commonly associated with villainy” kind of reasoning than a genuine look at his character, which is funny because again in-universe people do that to him all the time! How many times has he outlined his views on society and heroes and his motivations behind what he’s doing, only for the hero he’s going up against to declare that he’s only destroying for the sake of destruction and has no intention behind it? It’s been happening since his introduction!

on the danmei twitter fight
okay guys i didn’t wanna say anything about this and yes it’s that hot danmei twitter translations saga thing that’s going on, because honestly i feel like there’s nothing much to say but when i see dumb posts on tumblr taking about that, by people who present a misleading hot take and their friends or moots run off with it without even knowing what exactly is going on - it really pisses me off.
and also if you shit talk translators for not continuing their translations or locking their translations whatever - the door is that way on your right and left, but anyway here’s a rundown on what happened because i am seeing people make comments without two brain cells put together, without the slightest bit of consideration for the people who bring them translations
here’s my hot take and thesis: if you enjoy english translations made by fan translators, you don’t, in any way, no matter happens, shit talk fan translators. fan translators do this for free, and whatever their intentions are, whether genuine sharing or like some of you like to say, for clout, if you consume, and you enjoy these translations, i’m sorry, you’re not uninvolved, and you don’t get to sit on a high horse and say translators should or shouldn’t do something. you should just keep quiet, honestly, because someone else is doing you a favour, a favour that you are enjoying and taking. that’s what respect is.
i’m presenting both sides or i guess three sides of the story as objectively as i can, altho my support is still for fan translators who were just minding their own business before this blew up.
===
🔺 what happened:
so it started because one of the bigger translators in the fandom did this poll - i’m not blaming her at all, i doubt she had any intentions of shaming anyone or causing any controversy and was plain curious, but her poll asked english speaking danmei twitter how many people buy the digital, print copies of the danmei they read, and who did not.
in my honest opinion, it’s not strange at all for her to have created that poll, considering just how much work she’s put into making sure things are accessible for the eng-speaking danmei fandom. i mean i’d be curious too, to know out of my thousands of readers, what the reading and buying behaviour is like. do yourself a favour and don’t read too much into it.
obviously in an era where a lot of people do consume content for free whether the underlying content is profit-making (like anime, donghua, manhua, manga etc.) or not (fanfiction etc.), it was unsurprising to see that the last option - the ones who consume danmei without paying a single cent, came out as the majority. i don’t think this is a surprising result at all, for all sorts of reasons that i will not get into now.
anyway, this is obviously kind of a sore point in the fandom especially for translators who want a wider audience to support their fave author’s works - i won’t get into that for now, but the issue began because other translators or fans started to criticize the majority of people who don’t pay for objectively rather affordable danmei and just consume things for free.
and yes, i don’t deny that the argument on both sides got really heated and emotionally charged with both sides calling each other names which i believe is uncalled for, but it totally derailed the crux of the issue, which basically is that the majority of english-speaking danmei fandom - consumes danmei for free.
anyway this whole thing escalated and fan translators were brought into this for no fucking reason at all except that the people who didn’t want, or were unable to pay for the danmei they usually consume, made what i call a LOGICAL FALLACY in argument by going to the extremes, i will explain why later.
the end result is that fan translators were brought into this (most of them, the bigger ones i know at least) without even participating in the direct crossfire. and obviously, you can see why they’re hurt and decided to lock their translations. let me explain why
===
🔺 kind of like four camps:
(1) translators and fans who criticized those who consume danmei liberally but do not pay for them in any way - no merch, no digital copies, no physical copies, no audio dramas whatever
*** their arguments:
danmei is so cheap right, that technically people should be able to pay for it in one way or another, even if not all
danmei and its authors are, at the end of the day, out here to earn a living, and the industry, like any money-making industry, is a for-profit enterprise - and unlike public goods, if you cannot afford danmei, then there is no obligation for others to make it free for you (fan translators or otherwise, it wasn’t super clearly stated while this shitshow happened) when it is inherently a for-profit industry
yes, i don’t deny that some of them did call the peeps who don’t pay at all, “leeches” and other sort of names. personally, i wouldn’t go that far or even like venture there to be honest because in general, if it’s something that i’ll get punched in the face for if i called someone that in real life i tend not to do it, but i’ll leave my opinions, whatever they’re worth, for later
(2) the readers and fans of danmei who do not pay in any sort of way for them
*** their arguments:
some of them really cannot afford, even the dollar or more, to spend on danmei for several reasons: upbringing, culture, money-spending mindsets, real poverty, struggling to make ends meet etc. - some definitely more valid than others (and when i say not valid, it’s because SOME, a minority or like those few stragglers, say they cannot afford and then you see them like idk, throwing $50 on other merch on kpop and stuff - i’m just bringing up ONE example. not shaming anyone for spending more money on one aspect rather than the other, but yeah you can see why some of them, when making this same argument, are a little invalid, that’s just a small number of them tho)
if translators are blaming them for consuming free of charge, then the fault lies, at its foundation, fan translators who translate illegally, which i mean, in that definition, all of them including me
did i mention that we were called illegal translators like you know in response to being called leeches? anyway-
(3) others translators who literally were just minding their own fucking business before some smart alec dragged them into it
i don’t think most of us had an argument. we were just quietly munching on popcorn and staying out of it and yeah, can you imagine, we provide a service, however illegal it is, for free on our own time, we don’t even check whether people support legally or not, we just... provide, and pray that those who are able to, at least support in some small way or another do so, on their own time. i mean i don’t check, most of us don’t, not the bouncers at your local club before COVID happened do, and then suddenly, to be used to derail an argument, we were called illegal translators. and that we should stop translating, and that it is our fault that there are free riders in the fandom
(4) people who offered to provide JJWXC credits to those who said they couldn’t afford it etc.
honestly i think they were just trying to help - no different than a gofundme. there’s no shame in taking a free thing that people already weren’t intending to pay for. it’s there, just take it!
===
🔺 the shitshow that led to fan translators locking their stuff up:
i would provide some actual examples in the form of screenshots but i’ve blocked most of them, and i don’t want to direct any sort of traffic to them so i guess you’ll have to take my word on it or go search on twitter yourself but-
(1) the affordability issue: i can understand the frustration at being called leeches, and some if not a majority of people, do have valid reasons for not being able to afford something or anything and end up pirating content they enjoy. hey, i am not about to crucify anyone for pirating at some point in their lives. we all have done it at some point, or for example hate disney+ and that $30 they were trying to rip off us for a subpar Mulan live action. i don’t have anything to say about that. inherently, is it wrong and illegal? yeah sure of course it is. do we call people leeches? i wouldn’t go that far.
if anyone cannot afford, cannot access for whatever reason, fine, i’m not gonna go check if jjwxc truly is banned in your country, or is your postal service so terrible that you definitely won’t be able to receive a hard copy of the book you like at affordable rates.
and if you have to pirate? go ahead. i mean it’s always been a rampant thing. the only thing fan translators and fans can do is encourage, motivate and incentivise as much as possible to get people to support legally. they can only put up REALLY COMPREHENSIVE guides as to how to access jjwxc or taobao or whatever.
and if you still cannot afford it and pirate, honestly no one cares about the story behind it. you owe no one justification, just as how no other person is obligated to take it into consideration or understand you or empathize with you. i don’t say this in a malicious way - i do think that in general, you just do you.
(2) the poor people don’t deserve nice things argument: honestly, this was not the point of this entire debacle, altho yes, people were rude to those who could not afford to support legally. but this is not the point of this whole thing.
main point - there are free riders who can support but choose not to because they choose to just consume it for free and if you are able to you should support
everyone going off on a tangent - you guys hate poor people / you guys are leeches
well guess what, no one wins in this argument.
there were a lot of people saying “reading danmei is our only source of happiness, are you saying poor people who can’t access legally don’t deserve to read danmei” (this is just one example i’ve seen, there are other variations), and it wasn’t put across perhaps in the right way, but the other camp of people were saying “you’re not entitled to it for free if you cannot afford it”, which raised a lot of hackles and anti-poor yellings
altho i do not deny that there are those who mean it maliciously, i think what everyone is trying to say is - the danmei industry, like any other profit-making industry, is looking to make profits. the people working in the industry, the authors even, are looking at numbers - traffic to jjwxc or other legal platforms, how much revenue they’re making from their live actions etc., comments, rankings, etc. i think @/hunxi-after-hours made a really succinct post on this aspect which yall should read.
it’s the same as - if you wanted to purchase a standee which costs $20 USD, but you cannot afford it = you don’t get it. there’s no way you can get this standee unless some gifts it to you for free. what the camp trying to ask people to support legally is saying, is that danmei is NOT A PUBLIC GOOD. it is a private, for-profit product. it might be intangible, but it is a PRODUCT that has a price that needs to be paid.
if you cannot afford it, you either don’t get access entirely (i’m saying this objectively and honestly from an economic standpoint). if someone gifts that standee to you for free, count yourself lucky - if someone makes a danmei accessible to you for free, COUNT YOURSELF LUCKY. you don’t have to be grateful and treat them as gods or like obey their every word, but it’s not rocket science. someone did you a favour that you accepted and consumed, show some respect.
if you cannot afford to buy the standee - you do not go on twitter demanding that someone ensures that you have access to the standee for free. do you see how ridiculous this sounds once it’s a tangible product? and danmei novels ARE PRODUCTS. they are not FREE CONTENT. if someone cannot afford the standee, this is the equivalent of people going “we didn’t get the standee for free because poor people don’t deserve nice things”
totally missing the point. i don’t even know how it got to this. once again, i do admit that some users were unnecessarily mean, but going to the extreme of this is ridiculous. in argumentative essay writing we call this a logical fallacy:
e.g. “if you cannot pay for merchandise or danmei, it is a fact that you might not have access to it” morphing into “if we cannot pay for food, does this mean we cannot have access to it?!” - this is a slippery slope, and factors are not equivalent!!!! do they not teach people anything in school
don’t confuse fanfiction with danmei - danmei novels ARE PAID PRODUCTS unless for free chapters, just because it’s released online doesn’t mean it’s free public property, and also selected novels (did you guys know the WHOLE of SCI novel is free? about 500 chapters sorry, random, just a tidbit)
there are of course nuances right, like if anyone told me they were pirating disney+ content i’d be like yeah hey get one over those bloodsuckers, they take enough of our money and produce shit content anyway. the difference is that danmei authors, and the danmei industry itself can still be considered a nascent and not-yet matured industry, with a majority of authors if not all, depending on monetary flow, likes, comments, virality on the sites their content is hosted on, for a living, unlike hugeass MNCs trying to squeeze us dry for content that isn’t even interesting.
danmei is priced rather reasonably - and this brings me to another argument that was made, that the value of money is not the same for everyone. i don’t want to make comments on this because yes this is correct to a large extent. a $6 book might be cheap to most of us, but might be expensive to someone else. i’m not gonna comment on how cheap or whatever it is, if you gotta use your money for other things, definitely! i still maintain however, that a novel less than a dollar should be affordable to most people, a majority of people. and i definitely side eye some users who obviously have money but are just creating noise because they wanna continue free-riding
(4) the “they’re losing out on their international audience” argument: honestly, i feel like english-speaking danmei fandom gives themselves a bit too much credit. danmei has long thrived in china in its domestic market - sure the international audience is a plus to have and i’m sure the authors are grateful and flattered that people who don’t understand chinese love their content and love it a lot, but do they and their companies care about fans who basically don’t bring in money? i’m not sure (okay i’ll get to the fan translators doing illegal shit later okay i got it don’t be impatient)
and international fans are great, i don’t deny that - but when i see arguments like “oh but it’s their loss if they don’t cater or deny access to us, they get more popularity and sharing overseas”, i honestly think they don’t care as much as you think. once again, hunxi made a really good argument regarding non-sinophone audiences, but it really irks me, because this is the same as:
an instagram influencer saying they’ll give a restaurant exposure for free to their followers, if they get a free meal
it’s par for par - danmei authors wants earnings, popularity, tangible results that show that they are succeeding. this is life. if i put something out there for sale, i better be getting returns, simple economic logic. they probably don’t care that a non-paying reader is bringing them greater ‘exposure’ - once again, i mean this objectively.
and yes if they’re thriving without the international market then why should it matter that people are pirating right? which brings me to the next point~
(5) it’s fan translators faults for so many people pirating, and fan translators are the ones doing the “illegal” work: this one is like... wow where do i unpack this and how-
firstly, we are talking about assholes who can pay but decide to free ride and not pay for danmei, and we assume that if you really cannot afford and have to pirate, no one’s saying anything as long as you don’t go around spreading how to pirate, how the hell did it get to fan translators from “you guys are anti-poor” and whatever
yes, fan translations are indeed illegal, i don’t deny that, and i also don’t deny that there are translators who translate for clout and popularity but putting these aside - here’s what i have seen from people who ran their mouths and made this argument
“if you guys care about us pirating the book so much than fan translators shouldn’t have translated in the first place” and “if you wanna come after us for reading illegally, then fan translators, you guys should go get the copyright for the book and then translate it cuz what you guys are doing is also illegal”
hooooo i’m telling ya, i am all for translators locking up their translations at this point. see how fucking hurtful that is? you eat from my hand and then now you biting at the hand that fed you the gays in love?
honestly if you’ve made this argument or supported this, you can basically go to hell. yes this is personal because what, you think fan translators don’t take out their personal time and effort and hard work to make translations accessible to you? if you’re ever consumed and read translations, don’t be a hypocrite and make this argument. you benefitted from it, now you wanna say it’s their fault?
most translators want to share and spread the love they have for a novel right, want to show you how wonderful all these authors are, how much enjoyment u get from reading these wonderfully thought out stories of gays in love. yes we all know we are illegally translating, which is why on top of sharing we first, purchase the novels legally ourselves first, and then we try to encourage people to buy etc. and actually put their money to use. it doesn’t make it any less illegal, but we are bridging the gap between danmei and basically the english-speaking fandom, albeit illegally
we aren’t that self-important to ask for gratefulness but some respect would be nice. like i said, you read it, you consumed it, you enjoyed it, you can only access it because of illegal translators - a bit counter-intuitive to yell at these translators, who are simply telling you, if you can, please support. and none of us went “if you cannot afford, begone!”
===
🔺 some people tried to help by offering jjwxc credits so people who cannot afford as they say, can get legal access: honestly, just take it right, guess what some of these users did in response
they said the people giving away credits are trying to redeem themselves for their comments by giving away free stuff
they also said that we are trying to shame the people who cannot afford it with this handout to them, to show that they are the bigger person - the fact that they think this is a handout to them is TELLING. the people offering this is giving their money not to these readers, but to the authors! that’s the point of this exercise!!!
one of them even said “instead of trying to do these giveaways, here, there are greater world problems out there, donate instead to these causes” - love the initiative, but how did we get from being able to afford danmei and entertainment content to saving the world? i just- i cannot
===
🔺 so why i get why fan translators are locking up their translations, because wow, so hurtful:
you have no idea how many fucking assholes went “sure, lock up your translations, deal with the consequences” - ermmmm firstly, thanks for making a threat. like who the fuck do you think you are?
the consequences is... the authors still don’t get the money these free riders weren’t going to give them anyway, so no loss, and they weren’t reading on jjwxc anyway so you know, the authors don’t lose or gain any readership numbers or traffic they didn’t already have. instead, it WILL push and force people to pay for the PRODUCT. once again, it’s a product.
this works, and i’d say Word of Honor’s payment model worked marvellously for Youku, because they fucking forced everyone to pay to access content. ALL OF THEM. sure ok some people still pirated it, but how many MORE people paid on Youku, on Youku Youtube, watched on Viki etc. than if they didn’t? even english-speaking fandom were wracking their brains trying to purchase a Youku pass even if there were no subs initially - and other examples that lovely hunxi brought up in her amazing piece
and for translators?! honestly me for one, i’m glad i don’t feel pressured anymore to churn out a chapter every week since we get called names etc. most of us are glad to have a break to be honest. we’ve lost all motivation to translate because it’s a free service, at the very least we don’t expect like hate, or rudeass fuckers. for those who are doing a proof of purchase thing - go for it honestly!
hopefully it’ll minimize the free rider problem - some people for whatever reasons really cannot buy or support legally, that’s totally cool and they don’t have to justify it, i get that. but for others making the same argument but obviously are just unwilling to pay because they can’t read chinese, think it’s too troublesome when there are guides and translators provide it for free anyway so what’s the point - we all make concessions and make decisions to grab what we like (not talking about the ppl who have their various troubles and difficulties!)
===
🔺 and those who are saying why is it the ‘rest of us suffer’ from locked translations just because of a few bad apples:
IT ISN’T ABOUT YOU. where the hell were all of ya when we were getting called illegal huh? it’s about us fan translators getting shot at for no reason, and then people still demanding things for free. i don’t see any of the people i’ve seen on tumblr complain about fan translators stopping or locking translations defend any of us in any way. instead, you’re complaining.
it is the translator’s prerogative to start, stop and end translations, unless of course the original author starts to sue i suppose. i see people on tumblr going like if they were gonna do this, they shouldn’t have started in the first place etc. - i don’t what world you live in, but when i do something for free, then get called names and am attacked or get dictated on how i should do something that’s already like free, i tend to be less generous.
i’m sorry, do us illegal and free translators owe ANY OF YOU? i wasn’t aware any of us were being paid for this hobby. readers, especially those who CAN and just refuse to support, don’t get to say SHIT. translators deal with so much shit and so many entitled readers, i say they get to lock whatever they want as long as they aren’t profiting off of this monetarily.
let me give you an example - nan chan, which is translated by lian yin, completed translations by the way for all chapters. it is all free for viewing, and she only locked up one extra and asked for proof of payment. some dumbfuck quotes that locked up extra chapter tweet and said “honestly, this turned me off reading this novel because they restricted access”.
the. fucking. entitlement. the whole of nan chan is free, that’s like what more than 80 chapters. she locked up the EXTRA and the money goes to the author, she doesn’t earn anything. AND HERE THAT BIJ is (yes, i’m going to call them names because you know, fucking asshole who didn’t bother to check) going “yeah i didn’t wanna read because 1/80+ chapters were locked”.
AN EXTRA. LITERALLY AN EXTRA!!!!!!
at the end of the day, translators are not like DYING to translate, not like some of you are DYING to read the translations. once again, this isn’t a “BE GRATEFUL” message, it’s a please be respectful to the people who put in time and hard work for free and share the goodness ya know? what’s the use of yelling at fan translators as if we owe you anything?
================
🔴🔴🔴 TOO LONG DIDN’T READ 🔴🔴🔴
some people may need really need to pirate - and no one needs to justify why they cannot afford to purchase etc. pirating happens all the time, translators only hope that when you can, and in whatever way you can, to support legally - in general we don’t ask and we get it! we’re just annoyed that some people think that it SHOULD BE FREE, when it is a paid product, especially for those who CAN afford it
readers are not entitled to shit on translators for what they do with their translations - once again, you’re not OBLIGATED to have it. so what if i start and stop? i’m the one doing the work, i get the only say. don’t be a hypocrite and shit on translators, whose works you’ve read - it’s no loss for translators, we read and enjoy danmei just fine
yes, fan translations are illegal, but you can’t read and enjoy them like some of you have, and then turn around and point the finger at translators - a lot of us are happy to stop translating - this isn’t a threat, but at the end of the day, shitting on translators simply decreases access, and sure, some people can indeed live with you know, MTL or shitty translations from people who’ve learnt chinese for only six months or whatever, but you’re gonna be reading an entirely different book tbh
the people saying illegal translators are at fault - funnily enough, most of them consume the translations, so what the fuck? i mean we know it’s illegal, we’re trying to share the love and trying to minimize the illegalities of it by redirecting people to hopefully support legally. it’s still illegal yes, but i think it’s hypocritical for people who have read translations, stab translators in the back. and now that translators are indeed ‘restricting’ and ‘removing’ their ‘illegal translations’, yall yelling again? and threatening?
fan translators aren’t “elitist” or “classist” - just looking for some respect in a community which seems to have taken them for granted, and also looking for support for their fave authors - and honestly a lot of us were caught in the crossfires truly, don’t be an asshole and demand things from fan translators - who are you talking about? do you know why they decided to lock? do you know know what their locking system is like and what for?
it’s not EASY to lock the translations up - it’s more admin work, it’s putting together a whitelist of people, if given the choice i’m sure translators would prefer to share everything. but not when there are assholes who have a comment on how they should translate etc. and yeah!!! calling us illegal!! i mean we are but still!!
the last straw was seeing that post on tumblr and people in the comments going like fan translators shouldn’t or should do something, without getting the whole picture, without even considering how hard it is for fan translators being caught in this situation.
whoever puts in the work gets to decide, and everyone else should leave them alone.
be nice to the people who really cannot afford as they say so (or just don’t think about it), be nice to the translators feeding you content, and the people who free ride and shit on translators - honestly, i’d say ready the pitchforks.
edit: i forgot to mention this is my hot take and i’ve tried to like present all the arguments i’ve seen so far. i’m definitely not doing all of it justice and i don’t claim to speak on behalf of any of them except maybe one or two- and i’ve definitely left out stuff, but anyway, lmao we’re just tiny people doing what we love. i wish we could solve you know inequality or poverty or hunger or other pressing concerns. if i was that great i wouldn’t be stuck on tumblr or twitter or have to make posts like these like a loser.
thanks for coming to my ted talk.

Hello, it's me, Rabbit the Arknights geek grandchild.
I come with more Arknights introductory stuff.
This time, I bring you, the nations (that are currently known) in Terra.
Basing on the map I sent the last ask, I'll go from North to South and East to West :DD Part 1 because it's very long. (Through this you'll know which countries are the devs' fave countries)
Tumblr media
Higashi
The Terran counterpart of Japan, is the furthest northeast country. It's a country ruled by Diarchy, but Higashi itself is a tributary state to Yan. Not much is known about the whole Higashi, but what's known was that the country went through a civil war and ruled by the two Shoguns of the two Kougon clan of the North and Mitsumoto clan of the South. The war lasted until another country, Ursus, invaded them which forced the two clans to form an alliance to kick the bears out.
As of the modern age, Higashi culture is like Japan's. Popular for their manga, anime and video games.
As for population, the Oni race is native to Higashi. Alongside the Oni, there are also other races such as Feline, Lung (Eastern Dragon), Elafia inhabiting this country. There are also Aegir from here.
Tumblr media
The Empire of Ursus
The Terran counterpart of, guess it, Russia. It's so far the largest country in Terra, further to the north with harsh environments, with its borders that were expanded through the good ol' warring ways. Previously, it was called the Hippogryph Empire and was ruled by the Hippogryph Liberi people. Ruled by an Imperial Monarchy system.
This country's past is... glorious? Idk, the previous Tsar waged a war (with an alliance with Leithania and Victoria) against the Gallic Empire (also called Gaul, it's the French of Arknights) and exterminated Gaul from the map. Then the bears went on and waged ten wars with another southern neighboring country, Kazimierz, which earned them many, many territories from the poor Kazimierz. Ursus also expanded their territories to the far north, which was sadly home to some eldritch demons. But their military might was very, very strong and was able to contain the demons and even keep some fragments of them as power enhancements for their strongest fighters, the "Emperor's Blades".
You know how it always goes with empires great for their military might, their economy and population is very strained. And as the empire grows in size, the Ursus Empire suffers more and more loss. The most devastating of all was a battle at which more than twenty or so "Emperor's Blades" lost their lives. The citizens grows more and more unhappy with the nation's state. They needed a scapegoat, and the ones picked to be the scapegoat were the Infected.
Ursus is the country with the subjectively worst discrimination against the Infected, going as far as having Patrol Units specialized to commit pogroms against the Infected. Those who survive get sent to mining job and are worked until their Infections kill them or until they're killed by the overseers and guards for the sake of their "entertainment".
The Ursus Empire also very recently in terms of chronology lost a war against Higashi... That they started themselves. After that, a Great Rebellion happened and ended in a brighter note, as more and more people fight for the rights of the Infected in Ursus. Too bad, as the nobles in this country are plotting to plunge this Empire into war, possibly affecting the whole world.
Most of the citizens here are of the Ursus race, meaning they're bears. Sure there are other races, but they're preeeetty discriminated against by the bears.
The city of Chernobog in Ursus is also the place where a very depressing and traumatising game event took place, look up "Ursus Children" if you're interested, grandma.
Tumblr media
Sami
A nation that's even further north than Ursus. A small little country with a population that's mostly Elafia. It's rather famous for its pristine landscape and hot sauna baths! I don't think it's inspired by any irl country, not that I know of any that sounds similar to it.
This nation still embraces the primitive tribal life, while the rest of the world is busy with modernisation. It's said that even some godly beings, the Feranmuts, live along the Samians.
You know how many primitive civilizations have things for religions? Yeah, Sami is the same. Additionally, the people of Sami are noted to be good at Originium Arts (the magic equivalent in Terra, supposed to require an Originium catalyst to work, with some exceptions).
Sami's borders were closed for a long, long, long time of isolation. However they just recently opened their borders for trading and mining operations. Many engineers and scientists that came with the trading convoys tried to introduce the people of Sami to technology, but to little effect. Outsiders are still forbidden from stepping into the heartland to the north, where Sami's deepest secrets lie.
Sami's primary military force are the Snowpriests.
Tumblr media
Yan
The nation inspired by China. A vast country ruled by an Imperial Monarchy system with the Emperor, the "True Lung", as its head.
Yan is one of the Terran nations that are noted to have existed since ancient times. A balance between ethereal natural beauty and bustling economic cities. Yan has a highly powerful military power but unlike Ursus, Yan rarely gets itself involved into conflicts and wars. Also rather famous for its good ol' martial art schools (because, y'know, Chinese martial arts). Doesn't treat the Infected any better though.
Long, long, very fucking long ago, Yan was borderless and was ruled by many, many Feranmuts (the godly) with their supernatural power. However the first ever "True Lung", who believed that the misfortunes that his people were subjected to were the gods' fault. led a rebellion and took out the gods with the help of one of the gods themselves (nevertheless one that's prideful and disdainful), Sui. Gods that opposed the first True Lung were either slain, or banished. Some time in history, Sui betrayed the True Lung. But he gave Sui final mercy, as somewhat of a reward for his service in the rebellion, and did not slay Sui. Sui, however, as the price of his betrayal, was split into 12 fragments, which would later become 12 siblings with distinct individualities. It was said that the reason why Sui betrayed his Kin, the Feranmuts, was for the purpose so that he can become the sole god of Yan, true to his prideful nature.
The current True Lung of Yan and some fragments of Sui, along with a Ministry of Rites are working together to combine the fragments of Sui back into Sui himself (which would bring chaos, a lot of chaos, onto the world, as if Ursus isn't enough). However, not all are following the idea, giving birth to the Sui Regulators to supervise the fragments.
Enough about history, let's talk about a major part of Yan in the game. Lungmen City.
Lungmen City is a metropolis nomadic city, ruled by Wei Yenwu, the current True Lung's older brother. Its an economic hub, a massive one. Lungmen might as well be one of the richest cities in Terra.
The Lungmen currency, LMD (LungMen Dollar) is an internationally recognized currency, also the currency that you always run out of in this game.
I'll continue later, it's getting so long.
*rubs eyes* I just woke up, my grandchild, so pardon me if I miss stuff
First of all, Higashi is so tiny! However it's still cool that despite how small it is in comparison to Ursus, they still managed to fight them off through teamwork. And that's a lot of hybrid names I don't remember now pfft - but still, even if you did say it was mostly landlocked, it would have been cool to make the Japan cities uh walk in water or something
And then there's the Amogus country, pretty expected to be Russia. Looks just like a bad game of Risk where you're spread thin, let's hope the resistance wins tho I'm not entirely sure how the world progresses there (is the bear thing related to the Russia meme pfft)
Sami actually sounds familiar for some reason, but I don't have the facts, evidence, or knowledge relevant to it. Tho a quick search of "Sami natives" shows exactly what I was talking about. But also love love non-technical civilizations that refuse technology in the first place
And yes, of course China is the best there, but I love the lung connotations. Even tho it sounds weird as a currency name *hums* The mythology and the 12 fragments shit is so cool tho! I wonder if that can be used to fight against Ursus if they do start the world war, but would that actually transpire, seeing as that might receive backlash in the community
So far I'm enjoying the read through of the worldbuilding, I especially love it when fantasy nations have differing origins and forms of government!

Sannin headcanons and thoughts
The last thing I would like to post for the sannin week. It is still 24.04 here! :D @sannin-central
This is long. Spoiler alert. Mostly Orochimaru, some Tsunade, a little of Jiraiya (because his story is pretty clear and spoken and idk what I can add). Also I recommend to read this meta about Orochimaru, it has influenced me a lot and has some good points. Sorry for any posible grammar mistakes. Also I really should put here a lot of references to the manga or anime but it was something that was piling up for a year and I'm soooooooo lazy. After all, those are just headcanons. Also: Im not excusing Oro's bad stuff here, Im trying to understand the reasons.
Ive already posted some hcs, here, here and here.
Tumblr media
1. First if all, the chronology pic of sannin lifetime based on the info i found on naruto wiki and also some statements about wars from this post. It was tough considering what a mess naruto’s chronology is.
2. Sannin story shows what it cost to be a legend. They're like Team 7 but more realistic. Tsunade literally carried the war but left with nothing and developed a ptsd and have problems to just live on. Also anger control issues. I think she can be pretty bossy and stubborn which is not always nice. Jiraiya is the hero of the day but also very idealistic and can ignore some important details in the real word whether its the fight (he always injured during flashbacks maybe because each time he took too much to handle and on the one hand it's heroistic but on the other is a mistake that can lead your team to situations like in that Iwa cave) or your friends issues (I bet he saw what's going on but thought it's fine until Oro actually got red handed and left). He lives in his world and may have problems to get out to see it through someone else's shoes. As for Orochimaru, it seems like he was a normal guy for 20+ years (I mean, he didn't do crazy criminal shit and had something good in him and it was stated somewhere that it was his teammates influence. It is obvious they considered him as a friend, I don't thinks it was for nothing) but we mostly know his darkest side. Despite being a moster he is a human that have empathy and some ordinary human traits (man just decorates every bit of an environment he is in lol).
3. Tsunade was the leader of team Hiruzen.
4. Tsunade sometimes hit Jiraiya for some stupid things he did or said but never touches Orochimaru even if he did something same. Jiraiya complained about it once and almost got another hit.
5. Jiraiya had problematic parents that didn't care about him much and a lot of time he was wandering in the streets.
6. Judging by the look of Oro bangs and hair, he sometimes cut it off. A stress relief huh? And the fact that he doesn't do it now in Boruto..
7. It was shown that Tsunade and Orochimaru was acknowledged before they become a team. Maybe they did just before, or maybe some longer time before. I prefer the second option and hc that they met because both had no real friends - Orochimaru seemed weird and scary for everyone and Tsunade was Senju so everyone wanted to hang out with her but didn't really care. They weren't seen as what they were - people put the labels on them. But they didn't care about each other's labels and actually saw each other in true lights.
8. Tsunade knew it was an accident and it's not right but still she blamed Orochimaru for Nawaki's death for some time. It was something that seriously damaged their friendship and the team. Orochimaru was mad but also guilty, after all, he was responsible at least as a shinobi since Nawaki was under his watch. So he started to act cold and emotionless and was trying to distance himself from his teammates.
9. Jiraiya was in Ame while Dan died.
10. The whole his orphans mission was a bit irresponsible tbh. They already fought Hanzo and as he stated the conflict between Konoha and Ame is going to an end with Konoha's win. It's weird to stay here for three years in the middle of the war while there were other lands to fight. He left his teammates for some idea. Maybe that caused another crack in their team friendship.
11. If Tsunade would have find a way to live on with her trauma and follow the will of fire and stuff it would affect Orochimaru as well just as her grief affected him. It's like he would get an example that you can live on with this pain. So death isn't above human capability and we are not just the slaves of mortality (sounds stupid but i dont know how else to describe sorry). But as we know what he actually saw is that it broke her crucially to the point she couldnt be herself again. And so the death is above everything.
12. Oro wasn’t just acting as a cold pragmatic bitch in that cave but also tried to save Tsunade. Jiraiya knew it and that’s why he showed this sign to him like "I see what youre doing here" and that stunned Oro because he would prefer to look rather like a cold pragmatic bitch hehe
13. Just a thought. People in the village probably treated Oro as a foreigner or just wouldnt accept him because he looked so differently and had a weird attitude. That's why he sometimes didn't feel that Konoha is his home. After the wars where people were treated as means and tools, even the children, he himself developed this view on people - he dehumanized them and used as the means to his goals, just as his village did. Funny thing some people were straightly dehumanizing him too like Ibiki thought that he was a demon (tho he was a child). And he probably weren't the only one. Anyways the point is that it's logical that Orochimaru don't care about anybody but some few people, he's the product of his era. He's like Naruto that would chose the hatred way. But naruto had some good and understanding people around him and.. Orochimaru had them too, but match how Iruka treated Naruto and this Hiruzen's "I sAw tHe mAliCe in This cHiLd fRoM tHe BegGinNinG". And oro didn't even have a big ass evil fox in him. sry i hate hiruzen
ANYWAYS the moral of the story is not "go criminal if they hurt you" but always treat people like people. Waving my hand to Kant.
14. The reason why Orochimaru didn't pick some good morals to stick with through the hard times no matter what (like, idk, Jiraiya or Naruto) is because 1) I think he is/was pretty depending on people around him 2) the war fucked him and his friends up too much (Nawaki incident + Tsunade) 3) twisted addictions (though I don't think he's that sadistic, we never saw him torturing randoms just for fun, it was always some science experimental shit. He tends to get fun out of cruelty only when it's personal) that maybe developed as a way to sublimate anger and sadness caused by his parents loss (that's what they share with sasuke - unlicke naruto, they knew their parents and it's other kind of pain. Sasuke developed a revenge issue and Orochimaru - cruelty pleasure which... is kinda the same but less epic and more occasional lol).
15. Speaking of that, Orochimaru cared for Sasuke because he saw himself in him.
16. Oro hold grudges against Hiruzen for not choosing him to be Hokage not only because he was ambitious and/or egoistic, but also because Hiruzen was some kind of a father figure for him and his approval was important tho i doubt he was aware of that. He also probably could tell that Hiruzen was suspicios about him when he was a child and that led to many conflicts and was hurting as well.
17. Tsunade knew things weren't pretty with Orochimaru after the wars but she never expected them to be this bad. During the week that she was given in her arc she thought not only about how much she wants to see Nawaki and Dan again despite how wrong would it be but also was trying to bury all the good memories she had left of Orochimaru so it would be easier to kill him.
18. She poisoned Jiraiya exactly because she knew he would not let her do it. Jiraiya was always hesitant to kill and inclined to forgiveness, while Tsunade, as mentioned by Orochimaru, could be merciless (so much so that he was not surprised when Kabuto suggested that she wanted to use Jira for Edo Tensei).
19. That was one of her traits that scared Jiraiya and fascinated Orochimaru.
20. Remember how Oro grabbed Jiraiya's neck when the latter was trying to cover with hair jutsu? On the snake, in Tsnade's arc. Orochimaru could have easily kill Jiraiya by pulling the sword out of the mouth (arteries are right there) but he didn't. As well as he could kill Tsunade when she was still shaking - just aim for the neck or the heart. Instead, he just injured her lung and kicked her which is not a big deal for the kind of shinoby like her at all.. Also he helped Anko not accidentally kill herself but it would be way much profitable to let her do it. "Orochimaru has no feelings".
21. The reason he suddenly wanted to kill Tsunade instead of forcing her to heal his arms as it was planned (which is weird since it will not going to get him heals and he kinda said that he wouldn't want to kill her just minutes ago) is that not only she refused to help him (he thought he could work it out) but she also prefered the village over him (from his point of view). Out if everyone she was the closest to being able to understand him since the village caused her painful losses too but nevertheless she agreed to be on it's side.
22. He wasn't fighting her back in the end partly because he thought he deserved that. Somewhere deep inside hahah.
23. Tsunade got a fear to develop deep bonds so they probably weren't very close with Shizune (also the way she knocked her down in this hotel.. oh).
24. Orochimaru will be here when she'll die.
25. Orochimaru's eng dub to Tsunade: "I often wondered what it would be like to ring that pretty neck yours". No comments.
26. Orochimaru is either bi/pan or ace. Anything or nothing lmao
27. Hiruzen knew about at least some of the Oro’s illegal experiments and was okay just as he was okay with the Foundation all the time. Because it’s useful. Then he has discovered he went too far OR he knew everything and oro just became too inconvenient because of his methods. The way Orochimaru tells Sasuke about reasons they are well treated as the criminals is based on in his experience with Hiruzen.
28. As you may know the lyrics in Orochimaru’s music theme goes “don’t talk with the silence of the heart”. It was taken from one Indian song that also had lines like “don’t question life too much”, ”pain arose somewhere in the chest”, “don’t speak to the wounds of the heart”. Though I’m not sure 100% because I was translating it with some hindi dictionary with like zero knowledge of hindi
29. I like to think that this “silence of the heart” theme and the fact that he called his village a hidden sound village are somehow connected. The hidden sound is the possible explanation of all things waiting to be listened to but the truth is silent and you know it deep in your heart and it bothers you. The world is silent just like the life is meaningless but people can only hear. *Sigh* anyways
30. Orochimaru’s journey is the one about accepting death. When he saw Karin released her chains while was trying to get to Sasuke he understood that the death is a part of human’s strength.
Can’t wait to feel that everything I wrote is wrong or not enough or stupid and obvious lol. Anyways, it’s something that I wanted to share until I move to some other fandom.
