But he really likes this feeling of peace and feeling like he belongs! So he'll stay with this random person that just dropped out of nowhere, and teach them how to survive in the wild too!

The worldbuilding for the hotel is simply immaculate by the way. You managed to describe both it's ruin and it's beauty while still maintaining that the characters do not understand what such a building would be used for

You wondered if you were on Zhongli’s mind.

Because he was on yours.

You fell in love with the former Archon years ago and never stopped loving him since. His kind smile lit a fire in your heart every time the corners of his lips turned up and when he pressed his lips to yours, there were fireworks.

But as the saying goes, all good things must come to an end.

As the nights in Autumn became longer, you realized you were seeing less and less of Zhongli. When you went to sleep at night, Zhongli was absent and when you woke up in the morning, he was still gone. Each time this happened, your heart sank lower into your stomach.

Did Zhongli forget you lived together? Your body ached for his goodnights and good mornings and as soon as your head began to throb, he would waltz through the door with warm breakfast and an apology.

thoughts on antonoff's ubiquity in the pop music industry and 'midnights'

imo his synth and reverb obsession works perfectly with this album. to me the whole idea of sleepless nights spent on overthinking has the feeling of blurred perception of time and space, while the only sound you hear is your voice echoing inside your head with no release. so in my terms, this was the best stylistic choice for this album, but of course it's not the case with some music he's produced in the past.

like 'sling' and 'solar power'.

first of all, who even let him enter the production room? he should've stayed away from those projects and let other people guide clairo and lorde on those albums bc he just doesn't have the ability to work well within certain music genres. also i think he produced too much music in last 3 years – excluding 2022 – and got too repetitive with no room left for experimenation.

but from what i see, he didn't really do much last year and in 2022 we only got the minions soundtrack (lmao), 'midnights' and the 1975's album. imo all of them turned out great, so i'll just stick with the theory jack shouldn't produce too much within a certain period of time.

since i've mentioned 1975 i can't just leave it like that and i HAVE TO say jack's done an AMAZING work in reviving their old sound, without making it feel outdated. the 1975've been heavily influenced by the 80s since the first eps, so jack's input here is unquestionably appropriate. he helped them find the balance between the sound that essentially helped them get into mainstream and their following exploration of their own voice. imo this was the greatest move they could've pull rn – marketing- and music-wise.

current tumblr revival and 30-year-olds quarter-life crisis of og tumblr girlies is the perfect moment for bringing back the memories of carefree teenage days spent on the internet and listening to the 1975's self titled album. and i think it wasn't on accident – matty's too self aware to even think he didn't expect the new album to become fans' new favourite. he knows his listeners thanks to being chronically online. calling a song a continuation of 'robbers'? yeah it's no coincidence.

so did they do a right thing by bringing antonoff to this project? absolutely. i can't imagine anyone else helping them get back to their best.

but did taylor do a right thing? imo – yes. jack's one of her best friends, which probably helped her touch on so many triggering themes. all in all, the whole album is about topics that didn't let her sleep at night. is it repetitive? somehow. there are many melodies that bring to mind some of her older songs, but to me it's a good thing, because i feel like 'midnights' is not an era on its own, but more of a glue connecting her previous albums and kind of a closing chapter for taylor.

lyrically, themes on the albums are not new to us. musically, we can pinpoint to the specific album a song remind us of. and that's why i don't think any producer would work here. it had to be someone, who taylor trusts. someone who knows her and views her as more than just a music sensation, because this album wasn't meant to be a new era for taylor. she's happy, she's healing and she just wants to make music. and this time it felt like the music was supposed to serve as the closing door to her nightmares of the last 10+ years.

even though both the 1975's and taylor's album are filled with antonoff's synths and reverbs, it's not a bad thing. these exertions work great for both artists and their current music motifs. but should antonoff work with every single mainstream indie pop artist? obviously not. imo he should say no more often and focus on projects which would benefit from his distinctive music likings, and not just every mainstream pop albums that's trying to flirt with indie influences.

anyway. antonoff fed me good these last two weeks. i feel like i'm 17 again and never want to die.

Andrias is Disturbing. Even more so when you consider that he held himself BACK from hurting his friends at first, only showing his true side in bits and pieces just enough that they wouldn’t have believed him capable of such, but the second he met little Heart who was all his, he just…gave in to all those terrible thoughts. And eventually, he found the willpower to spread the outright abuse to his friends too. Terrible.

You know I had such a hard time writing that scene. That scene where Andrias steps on them. It’s so heart-wrenching and disturbing a concept on its own, but what makes it worse is the fact that Heart describes the whole scenario with such pretty language and without a shred of resentment towards Andrias for doing so.

They had not known what sand felt like until they are thrown against it, a tiny pebble amidst a grand ocean of grains each once lower than they, and now they are buried in them as grit and dust sprays up into the perfect and serene ocean around them, distorting it with imperfection.

When they are scooped back out of the sand, those hands feel like a messiah. Grains slide and slip through the gaps of his fingers, but those gaps are not large enough for Heart’s tiny form to. He wipes the remaining grime from them with those fingers, holds them up proudly like he is displaying a trophy. 

It’s heart-breaking. And you’ll notice a stark contrast between the way Heart describes the abuse inflicted on them versus the way Witney describes the abuse inflicted on her when her chapter comes out. Witney gets graphic. Here you want a taste? Take a taste.

Her meager struggling weakens slowly as her eyes roll back and saliva dribbles messily from her lip and the fingers on her from the other side loosen, slip off.

Learning he liked you was the easy part, the romance-starved girls of 1-A all too eager to jump at the chance of helping him to his epiphany, and an epiphany it was. (He made a mental note to send Tsuyu a thank you gift for keeping the girls from getting too crazy.) All the warm faces, fluttering heartbeats, and clammy hands suddenly made sense now. 

Not that it made them any better. 

If anything, they got worse, suddenly hyper aware of all your little likes and habits and everything in between that had him using his right side more often just to pull the flush from his face.

Now, he was stuck in the limbo in between realized feelings and acting on them. Was this what people called a crush? Pining?

He hated it.

He pressed his face into his hands, barely holding back a groan as you looked away to check your answer to a question he’d already solved.

Today was not the day.

“How do you confe- Shouto, you like someone?” Fuyumi gasped in shock, emotional at her baby brother growing up. Todoroki was already slightly regretting his decision as he watched her wipe away tears before they shed. Anything was better than going to Natsuo, though.

“Yes. So, how do you?”

“Hm, well…” She stared thoughtfully at the now forgotten book in front of her, “It changes from person to person, I think. What they like, what seems romantic to them, things like that. Overall though, as long as it’s a good atmosphere and you’re considerate of her feelings, I think you’ll be okay!”

Never mind, Todoroki regretted nothing about asking her. That was the most coherent advice he’s received in the past two months. He nodded along to his sister’s words as she continued, absorbing everything he could and comparing it against the advice he’d received before. Slowly, bits and pieces of his knowledge were discarded and replaced, or reinforced. Hagakure’s “romantic” confession idea sailed out the window (honestly, that had been on the chopping block for a while now) and Fuyumi’s broader advice slipped into its place.

So, considerate of your feelings. That part was easy.

Good atmosphere…? Should be easy enough.

Not easy, actually.

The one thing he forgot to ask was the very thing he was agonizing over right now. He had no idea what constituted a good atmosphere. What made an atmosphere good or bad? The people? The mood? What the hell even defined the mood?

All of this, crammed into the short wander from his dorm to the common room at an ungodly hour. On a normal night, he would’ve slept through the night into the next morning, but nothing has been normal these past two weeks and there were a few nights his sleep suffered from his constant pondering.

Tonight was one of those nights.

He shuffled into the kitchen, blearily rubbing the sleepy blur out of his eyes long enough to find the bottle of water in the fridge. This would help nothing but his dry throat, but that was one fork out of his back, at least. Tired fingers unscrewed the cap and he raised the bottle to his lips as he shuffled his way back to his room.

“Oh, you couldn’t sleep either?”

Todoroki choked on his water.

He painfully swallowed the loud cough his lungs tried to force through in favor of clearing his throat a little quieter instead (still sounded half-strangled, but anything was better than hacking his lungs out in front of you), and turned to the one he didn’t notice sitting in the dimly lit common room.

“Y/N? What are you doing up at this hour?” He winced at his raspy voice, still recovering from the water that went down the wrong pipe, and he cleared his throat again.

“I could say the same to you.” You scooted over, a silent invite to join you that he had no qualms taking you up on. Todoroki slowly realized too late that it was only the two of you, cast in the strange intimacy of shade and moonlight, and suddenly his left side felt a little too warm. Gingerly, he let his Quirk pull away the flush from his cheeks, praying to whatever deity that would listen that you wouldn’t notice the flame licking at his shoulder or the sudden chill at your side.

“So why couldn’t you sleep, Todoroki-kun? If you don’t mind me asking.”

God, if you were the one speaking, he wouldn’t mind anything you had to say.

He pushed down the thought before his sleep-loosened tongue betrayed him again. Alas, where he held back one thing, another slipped past. He pressed a cold hand into his suddenly clammy palm, his racing heart nearly shaking his voice from the force of his heartbeat.

“…Kept thinking about something, and the more I thought about it, the more I stayed awake.”

“Thinking about what?”

He’d blame it on being half-asleep later, he’d blame it on his loose tongue, or on the mysteriously intimate midnight silence of the dorm. He’d blame it on anything, but for now, seeing the moonlight filtering through the tall windows illuminate you in a silvery glow and reflecting off of eyes that he could never seem to look away from, he couldn’t help the answer that slipped past his lips.

“You.”

Todoroki would lament over this in the morning, but the slow realization and joy spreading across your face let him forgive himself just a bit.

He wasn’t the only one thinking about the other, after all.

• Then there was screaming and panicking. Your head snapped in its direction, he hadn't fully processed it before you'd taken off

• Some kids quirk had manifested. It seemed pretty severe.

• It looked like some kind of energy quirk, like a force field or something.

• The kid was scared, she was panicking and thrashing from her place in the air

• He stood behind you, surveying the environment to find a solution

• And he almost missed you jumping in until her heard your voice.

"Okay baby, look at me, just look at me and breathe. You'll be okay, Just breathe."

• You were walking towards her, trying to get her to slow her breaths. The more she panicked the worse it would get.

• He stood where he was, he didn't want to overwhelm her, he decided he'd let you take care of it.

• He watched quietly as you breathed with her, again reassuring that'd she'd be just fine.

• And he watched as the field flickered away and the girl fell. His body lurched foward on instinct and he was beyond relieved when he saw that you had caught her.

• He let out a breath as the girl gripped your shirt and sobbed into your shoulder.

• A hand reached up to hold the back of her head

• "it's okay," you murmured and he smiled

• It seemed to come easy to you, nurturing people. It seemed to come easy calming this girl down.

• He turned his attention to reassuring the bystanders that the two of you were okay and that you'd be taking the girl home. They dispersed slowly after his urging for them to leave.

• You were standing now, the girl still in your arms, holding on for dear life.

• Poor thing was still shaking

• "Look," you hummed. "This is my friend, he's going to walk with us to get you home. That okay?"

• Your hand was rubbing her back now and your cheek was pressed against her temple

• The small girl nodded, keeping her face hidden, whispering a soft sorry

• He watched as you hand the girl over to her mother who profusely thanks you

• Information is traded as she says she wants to make it up to you even after your assurance that it was no trouble at all

• And he's holding your hand again when the two of you leave, going on and on about how well you did in the situation

• He realizes just how good with kids you are when he she's you interact with Eri

• I mean everytime the two of you are together its wholesome

• He takes note when Aizawa tries to apologize for her always being with you and you brush it off

• You enjoyed her company and found no problem in it

• Shinsou tucked that piece away for later

• The girl adored you, genuinely

• And you stopped at nothing to make sure she was okay

• She'd spend a lot of time in the 1-A dorms with you, just as he would.

• If she said she was hungry, you'd be up to make her food in no time

• If she cried, you'd have her on your lap, wiping the tears from her cheeks as you assured her it was okay

• and he'd watch, soft smile gracing his lips

• She'd spent the night with you on more than one occasion

• Nightmares were prominent with Eri

• Staying with you seemed to help that

• He'd sit beside you as you braided her hair

• He'd listen to her ramble to you and he'd watch you nod and hum in response

• He'll lay on one side of you and Eri will lay on the other side, curled into your side as she watches whatever disney movie she picked

• and his heart will swell when the two of you sing along to the songs

• When Eries feeling down, she comes to you for comfort

• You'll tell her how beautiful she is

• He'll watch you hold her to your chest and rub her back

• He watches you play with her hair, kiss her cheeks, telling her how amazing she is

• How you're lucky to have her with you

• He'll watch as she falls asleep in your arms, content

• And it always makes him realizes just how lucky he is to be with you

• This one time, you and shinsou had fallen asleep watching a movie, it was about 3am when there was a small knock on the door

• You get up to answer it and Shinsou wakes up to you getting up

• And immediately your kneeling in front of her wiping her cheeks

• "Baby what's wrong?"

"I had a nightmare...I didn't want to wake mr. Aizawa up. I didn't want to make him mad..."

"Oh honey," you kiss her nose and pick her up, rubbing her back in response to her small whine. "You want some tea? Then you can stay with me for the night? We can tell Mr. Aizawa in the morning, he won't get mad."

She nods, laying her head on your shoulder. "Hi Shinsou," she waves weakly. "I'm sorry for waking you up too."

"Hi Eri," and he gets up too, walking over and running a hand through her hair. "It's okay, you're safe here. We won't let anything happen to you."

She nods again

He follows the two of you down the hallway and to the kitchen

Mina, Kaminari, and Sero are still up on the couch. He snickers as you glare at them.

"You guys should be asleep. Get out."

Mina groans and Sero grins knowingly, pulling the other two out.

Then she looked at Shinsou and this man about passed out. "Never." He puts a hand on her head. "We'll always be here,"

• The tea is made, the three of you drink it at the table, bent on getting Eris mind off her nightmare

• And then you carry her upstairs again and down the hall into your bedroom.

• the three of you settle down and you out on a movie (volume low of course) that she can fall asleep too and it's not long before she's out, pressed into your side.

• Shinsou smiles and kisses your temple. "I love you, you know,"

"Yeah?"

"Yeah."

"I love you too. Now stop being a sap, its gross." You stick your tongue out and he let's out a low chuckle.

"You're good with her."

"I want her to be happy," you mumble. "She deserves that at least. And if the world doesnt have anyone else doing it, then I'll do it."

He kisses your temple again. "I know."

• Ever since Eri came to live in the dorms, you've gotten up earlier, mostly to make the girl breakfast

• The whole class realizes it, sometimes they'll try to steal some but you'll obliterate them for trying

• He realizes that you talk a lot of shit about how much you 'hate kids' but when it comes to them, you're always doing your best to make sure they're comfortable and happy

• His class is attacked and you happen to be there and this man watches you go FERAL protecting these fucking teenagers and his heart swells and he'd filled with so much fucking pride

• The dumbass villain who fuckin tried is now on the ground in front of you completely beat to a pulp

• Poor guy had no chance

• As soon as you knew he was out your attention had turned to the kids behind you

• You checked for injuries, concussions, made sure they felt okay

• Mina looks like she's on the verge of tears, deadass hits you with 'can you be my mom?????'

• He tried to tease you about it

• The girl seems to relax at that and you get to work

• But he's not paying attention to what you're actually doing

• He's watching you

• You've got a bright smile on, your voice is soft as you show her the steps

• And once you get done tying the swivel on and putting a hook on, you hand her a worm

• The girl does so with a small comfortable smile

• His heart melts

• You're just so damn good with them like you're literally a goddess already
