So I may have made an absolutely terrible decision…. I have been hearing the siren song of the loom and I was not strong enough to turn away 😔 I really want a floor loom, but we have no space for one. So I got a table loom instead. Unfortunately, we have no space for this table loom either… I have no idea where I’m going to put it- hence why it’s terrible decision. It’s a lot bigger than I thought it would be. It’s currently on my sewing cutting table, but it can’t stay there. (Check out the angle it's bending my table at!) I don’t want to make it my roommates’ problem, but my craft room is an oversized walk in closet. There’s barely enough space to turn around in it. I don’t know what to do /: I don’t know where I can put it to actually weave. This table is too tall for me to weave while seated. why did I do this to myself. why couldn’t I be strong and resist the call of the loom.
but I found this for a super good deal! I was really lucky to find it! It came with books and a warping board and some yarn. It’s a Leclerc Medico that was made in 1974! a 4 shaft table loom that’s 22” wide. I’m really excited :3 I can weave fabric!! I mostly want to make yardage for sewing clothes out of.
I started warping it with the yarn that came with it- which is some 3/2 cotton yarn. I’m hoping it will turn into placemats. But I’m?? confused?? I have no idea what I’m doing. The books that came with it don’t actually have enough information to be helpful to a complete beginner. Even though they’re all called some variation of “weaving for beginners”. I am so completely lost. A lot of internet resources are on more modern looms or rigid heddle or floor looms or assume you have a raddle. I can’t find much for vintage table looms. Let alone for this specific model. So I’m sure I’m fucking this up. But here we go anyway.
#weaving#table loom#feyweaves#fiber arts#craftblr#crying struggling back pain#I think the fact that the table isn't level is fucking up the tension??#I've had a couple picks where the shed isn't fully formed and it skips a thread or two#the reed also doesn't beat it evenly#i need to find a new location#is it weird to weave on the floor#new definition for floor loom i guess#i think my first actual projects are going to be with halloween yarn bc its on sale at hobbii#buying lots of cones is expensive ):#i can't afford to buy like five of them at once if i want to do plaid or stripes or anything#i could barely afford this loom#i got it for an absolute steal

WELL LADS, ITS FINALLY DONE. I FINALLY FINISHED THE PUERTO RICAN FLAG BLANKET
this blanket is a fucking behemoth. it almost entirely covers my full sized bed, and it comfortably covers my mom and my dad when they're sitting side by side.
it so succeeds in being cozy, and i'm so glad i chose the yarn i did. hobbii's bulk discount meant that i didn't spend as much in yarn as i could have (though i did still spend a lot, over $300 💀). amigo giga is rated as good to go in the washer, too, so that means i'm not terrified of the yarn getting damaged the first time it has to be washed.
the colors are so bright, too. even though it's not perfectly done, (i accidentally did 2 rows extra in one of the stripes and didn't notice it till last minute, and i definitely could have done a better job hiding the weaved ends,) i'm so proud of myself for buckling down and working so hard on it. and my mom loves it! and that's what matters. so, ending out this update post! here are some Numbers:
the blanket measures out to be a whopping 65in tall and 72in wide (or ~165cm x ~180.8cm for my international friends). i used 12.5 skeins of hobbii's amigo giga yarn in christmas red, 4.5 skeins of hobbii's amigo giga yarn in cobalt blue, and 7.5 skeins of hobbii's amigo giga yarn in white. i definitely overshot how much yarn i needed the second time i ordered, but i'm sure i'll find a use for the leftover yarn! i also wanna shout out the creator of the pattern i used, this Puerto Rican flag pattern can be done in single crochet or C2C, but when I realized the weight of my yarn wasn't just right for this project the pattern designer personally helped me over etsy dms and she is just such a total sweetheart. i HIGHLY recommend her patterns! she was the one who gave me the advice of making the blanket out of double crochets like a genius to hit gauge (though i did go overboard on my own accord). overall, i'm very proud of myself for getting it over and done with, and i'm excited to start on my next (less ambitious, definitely less huge) project!

First blanket is finished!
Its kind of cute. I may make another. I think I have enough leftover yarn for another, but maybe with a different colour range.
It took me probably two weeks, on and off.
Yarn - acacia from hobbii
Size H 5mm hook
Pattern - round rainbow ripple (I found the free pattern somewhere, I'll have to link)

I've been bad at sharing yarn-stuff so here's some:
I finally finished the granny-square-baby-blanket I've worked on for a while and it made its way to the baby in mind! Very appreciated by both baby and parents.
I bought a ridiculously large water bottle (2 l) to increase my intake of water, since I desperately need it but am hopeless to keep it up. To easily travel around with and get it to and from work i crocheted a bag/case for it.
My current project is a maxi-granny-square-cardigan for myself. These two first squares are going on the back. I'm using Hobbii's Twirls/Sultan and I really love that yarn, so beutiful and easy to work with. I'll try to share more further on, but it'll probably be a while since I'm so slow.

I'm using metallico from hobbii in espresso, and it's such a gorgeous yarn! It's slightly shiny, and because of the way it's woven there's no splitting. I want all the different colors!
My yarn stash is full of so much pretty yarn and it's taking over my storage space 😅 So even though it pains me, the goal for 2024 is to use as much as possible from the stash, and not buy new yarn. even if it is on sale 😭
ooo i’ve never used that before but i’ve bought from hobbii before. I’ll check that out for my next project, i hate when my yarn splits 😩
I have so much yarn too its kinda overwhelming haha but i don’t have enough of one kind to make anything interesting which is why i keep buying more :(. But i definitely need to start using some of the yarn i have before buying (too much) more.

Description:
The dark normally teaches us to appreciate the light – not to mention clear and strong colors. Give a little room in the dark to see these great bright colors of Sultan Shadow unfold.
All the variations in the Shadow series have a foundation in deep black, which the colors then slowly grow from. The dark bottom gives the clear colors extra power and makes them seemingly shine and catch the eye.
Cotton Kings Sultan Shadow is a lovely soft cake yarn in 100% cotton, which is loved and admired for its beautiful color changes. The quality results from 4 thin threads that are not twined together, which makes it extra soft and airy.
The colors in Sultan Shadow change slowly, by only 1 thread at a time, which makes for a fantastically beautiful transition of colors. It makes it extra exciting to knit and crochet with because one gets to see how the colors meet when your creative project unfolds. It takes about 1 skein to make a shawl/scarf.
Tip: before using the Sultan Shadow skein, run the 4 threads through a bead so the threads are gathered throughout the work.
The yarn is OEKO-TEX® certified (no. 2076-311). Find more information about the certification on the https://www.oeko-tex.com/en/.

I am using hobbii yarn! It's 100% acrylic, 601 yards, its recommended used on 4.0mm
My partner agrees with me it's pretty soft! Although that being said, the hobbii premium acrylic is better I admit.
Today I have started my rainbow scarf, I'm low key upset it starts on yellow but I don't want to lose 2 whole colour chunks =(
But my friend won't mind I'm sure I'm doing this on size 7.0mm and I'm trying to do seed stich but I think I might just be doing one row ribbing? By accident lol idk I'm just gonna knit and purl and what happens happens.

So, know any good online stores for getting yarn? I got back into knitting and want to find places that have good quality I can use. Kind of figured you're the best person to ask since I saw you do a lot of crocheting and... have pictures of really nice yarn hauls.
*cracks knuckles* Okay so, I don’t know if you want to pay international shipping at all so I’ve tried to keep this mainly US/Canada focused but a lot of these places will ship internationally.
Now, for decent quality but cheap yarn I’d head up Lion Brand which can be found in your local michaels/whatever the equivalent craft shop in the states is. They also have a website.
General Yarn Stores With a Wide Selection and relatively low prices:
Hobbii - based in Denmark(?) will have to wait a little while for your yarn but I’ve used most of their cotton type yarns and can vouch for them.
Lion Brand- Mentioned above but here’s the website.
LoveCrafts- I used this when just starting out and love them
MOVING ON, we have yarn stores that I’ve shopped at before and have a wide selection of knitting and crocheting things but are on the more expensive side of things:
Statement Junkie - Obligatory Shout out to my LYS. Been there in person. T’was great. Excellent ladies. Check their shipping details depending on where you live.
Espace Tricot - Quebec based. Ships most places. Has a variety of neat stuff to offer.
Wool and Waves - Have not bought from here but I enjoy their Vibe and the things they have on offer.
Now, let’s move on to the *deep announcer voice* INDEPENDENT DYERS note that indie dyers do have more expensive yarn but that’s due to how its dyed, where they source from, the fact they are small businesses etc:
Essence of Autumn Yarn - I love love love the colors they come up with. I haven’t bought from there in a while due to ~life~ but they are worth checking out.
Ancient Arts Yarn - HELLO MY BELOVED. I love their yarn on a socknado base. One of the few dyers I’ve seen that have a nettle based yarn. Excellent.
Campfibre Yarns - Another one! I’ve made a shawl out of her MCN DK yarn before and its so soft and buttery I can NOT believe it!
Crux Fibre: Yukon based. Love the colors this lady comes up with! And she has a bunch of yarns that aren’t dyed and so their natural colors shine. Amazing. 10/10. One of my favourites.
