shoutout to media with only one female character that’s just a vessel for a sexual assault and/or pregnancy plot line with very little or no characterization beyond that
#inspired by#mouthwashing#there’s other media this relates to#I’m just thinking a lot about this game right now#idk I love the game and its art direction and the story is still amazing#it just sucks that anya wasn’t as developed as the other characters#and felt like more of a tool to make jimmy more of an unsympathetic asshole#almost everything about her revolved around jimmy#I guess you could make an argument that since jimmy is an unreliable narrator that anya’s lack of character is how he views her#she’s nothing to him#but even the sections playing as curly she falls kinda flat and still involves jimmy#idk maybe I’m being too critical#I’m just kinda tired of plot lines like these#where women are reduced down to their trauma and that’s all they are#not saying they shouldn’t exist!! they are still valid stories#I just wish they had more tact#I understand though that this is an indie title with only so much time and resources to put into such a big project#and I understand that more time was probably put into the art direction and gameplay and coding than just some extra lines of dialogue

#Seeing the dune part 2 american centric red carpet and as a devoted aficionado of the books and yk a moroccan person here are my 2 cents#Dune was one of the few Western works inspired by MENA culture that that felt genuine and respectful#But ofc despite the profound symbiosis with Middle Eastern and North African culture evident within the pages of the novels#the movie adaptation lack of substantive representation from these communities both in on-screen portrayals and within production roles was#very much disappointing in part 1 and i doubt there are any change now#While drawing inspiration from the Amazigh peoples of Algeria and Morocco#the film barely skims the surface of its MENA influences leaving substantial potential untapped#Herbert openly acknowledged the profound impact of Islam and MENA culture on his noveIs#from the metaphorical representation of Spice as oil#to the allegorical parallels drawn between the occupation of Arrakis and real-world MENA geopolitics#By marginalizing Arabs from the narrative fabric of Dune the essence of the story is being undermined particularly its anti-colonial core#the irony of this is kiIIing me because this was a direct resuIt of us impérialism on the middIe east#But the reality is that Dune is an American production tailored for an American audience so it makes sense for it to be what it is now#a big production running from its original essence#What adds to my disappointment is the fact that I liked Villeneuve's adaptation of Incendies and I had what you call foolish hope hfhg#Dune feIt Iike a squandered opportunity to authentically depict the cultural milieu that inspired it#Given the narrative's inherent anti-colonial themes#the omission of Arab and North African voices dilute its message if any of it is even left#without representation from Arabs and Amazigh people the cultural essence becomes another appropriated resource watered down to an aestheti#rather than serving as a critique of the destructive actions of colonialists seeking power and dominance#the narrative becomes susceptible to distortion and co-option by the very entities it was intended to condemn and hold accountable

I like the fact Tremaine's designated color is pink while Germaine's is maroon because if I draw them together it looks so bright and happy but they're in a dying world and both commit crimes many times a week just to survive. But hey, whatever.
If love is how they die, it beats starvation or injury! So letting them be codependent is like a treat almost.
#my characters#germaine and tremaine at least have each other (and kind of adopt motka as familial)#as mentioned prev with germaine who is the material wealth based layer guy#tremaine is the layer of lust and motka (who i keep mentioning) is the layer for gluttons#but while germaine is pretty much the embodiment OF being overly greedy and materialistic is incredibly rational#and while he hates it he knows when to cut a loss (item wise)#tremaine while the layer of lust and who does like the idea of having a fling has minimal desire for an actual romance#and based on the world they live in he knows its not really reasonable to expect a lot of intimacy and is mostly fine with it#but to cope with that lack of intimacy he is very touchy feely with the team including draping over his brothers back#or hugging motka whenever he wants despite germaine and motka being very much not fond of contact#to them its like ok fine tremaine is the exception but no one else can touch me#motka as the layer for gluttons is a bit different in that he is more uh.... the layer rather than the glutton#so he likes to cook and he likes to make others eat and he doesnt really eat much himself#hed rather make that someone elses joy especially since resources are hard to come by#so he acts like the group mom and germaine (as one of the oldest) is group dad and they're most of the reason why the group stays alive#also oddly enough to point out but germaine and tremaine are the only sibling layers while other layers DO have siblings#like the other oldest one has a younger sister and the team doctor guy has two younger siblings (twins)#and then the youngest member (limbo) has an older brother#so yeah i dont really know why the wellington brothers get to both be layers but theyre making it everyones problem#i really liked the cast for this plot but i dont really have much in terms of how i wanted the plot to go ?#so i dont draw them a whooooole lot but been thinking about these codependent brothers lately#and final note but motka used to have a younger sister but she died from illness which is why he is so lenient with tremaine#hes like i wish i still had a younger sibling so now you will be like my family if youd let me#and tremaine blissfully unaware for the longest time that THATS why motka is so lenient with the touching from him#its because hes more pleased by the Still Having a Sibling Aspect rather than pleased with tremaine

btw i'm sure this is nothing new on account of it having been well over 6 months by now since totk released and we had the no dlc bomb dropped. but i wasnt posting back then so idc ^_^
anyway the funniest thing about totk is no kass 100%. like. what happened to him. they dont even mention him by NAME and the only time hes ever even really mentioned is penn talking about him like this distant legendary figure and not like some guy who was playing his accordion in the woods. i hope amali divorced him

I should probably not be suprised when jan pi toki pona give me unsolicited toki pona advice but it still gets on my nerves. like, im willing enaging with the linguistics people and a constructed language i should expect people to be persnickety about it but that doesn't make it any less annoying @-@

Concept of languages and within that phonology (the study of the patterns of sounds in a language and across languages) is so wide you wouldn't have enough of a life to say everything about it. Unless you got one thing in mind. But I'm Flattered. Idk if I'd be much of a podcast guy I love visual stimuli. shan't lie I've had for months the idea to do a. #mfw a movie has irish slang in it and i am familiar with it instead of usamerican stuff#i have Some Thoughts on the setting of inisherin + the time period given the givens abt the aran islands#but nothing concrete. might meditate on it#like ok im no scholar on the aran islands ive been there a couple times ive read a couple articles thats it#but like. the tourism leaning into their image of Old Irish Villagín With Sheeps And Stone Walls basically overruns its reputation#and the islands have leaned hard into the tourism and portraying themselves as True Irish Old Villages or whatever#and thus settles the situation where like. everything about the islands pander to the tourists#the islands themselves are not doing well as places to live iirc#aging population people moving away lack of amenities and funding and resources that arent Tourism#its a gaeltacht but the tourism business mandates knowing english etc etc etc lotsa shit#like i had a school friend from an island and she was always unreachable on breaks bcos the island didnt have wifi#SO! the islands around ireland suffer from lack of facilities while bending to tourism bcos they gotta#BACK 2 BANSHEES to be clear inisherin isnt an actual island but it was filmed on inish mór and very clearly based on the arans#i like the island setting bcos of the sense of isolation it gives i think it was a good choice for the movie#HOWEVER its like. you know the thing where all irish media needs to be set in the old times#when we were all wearing aran wool jumpers and playing our little instruments and being cute historical dotes#yeah. that. compounded with the aran islands wicked having to play into that in the present day#like banshees itself isnt that bad an offender. the island setting just makes it more obvious and you could tick lines off on a bingo sheet#(shoutout to the obligatory civil war reference)#where was i going with this. im tired of weird 'back when ireland was ireland' shit being Thee thing to make art abt#this is why young offenders is the best piece of irish cinema this decade. i need to rewatch the young offenders

its really so crazy how we know exactly how to prevent major wildfires and pathogens from devastating forests and other ecosystems but the government would rather fund genocide than large scale controlled burn and thinning operations

I like how my favorite rpg romance experiences I've had are ones where it doesn't work out mid-game or post-game tbh.
#idk what it says about me it's not a rule....#but realistically like. you have a protagonist in this game. and these are highly charged scenarios where people are meeting. and yes likely#connecting deeper than they ever would otherwise--#but also typically at the end of that game... theyre losing that scenario... they're losing the everyday immediacy of whatever social#network or resources...#is your protagonist able to just move on and disconnect from that role... from that purpose?#if they cant... does their partner want to move on and live a life together... can your protagonist accept living a life#when potentially the consequences of their actions or when Something May Return?#If they can settle down at the end of their journey#are they the same person who romanced that partner? are they still compatible? Will that lack of immediate shared purpose make the#connection fizzle out without a common motivator at the level of Save The World or whatever?#And even if your retired protagonist is Actually Retiring and accepting the end of that role or purpose...#is their partner settling down? anyway.#i love my initial failed Lae romance playthrough of devastation with Fe aha#and i also loved my failed Josie romance. in both iterations of that character#anD i love my fucked up failed Liara romance especially with my main Shep.#having connections fizzle out or conflict you cant resolve through communication within the confines of the game is interesting#anyway. thanks for enduring my tag rant 💜#like some of my characters are happy ever after sure... but its more interesting and cathartic to have breakups and failure to communicate#idk about everyone. but for instance the fact that the Josie romance hinges on a public declaration of love... are you telling me every#person who romanced Josie handled that naturally?? couldn't be my OC who overthinks and thought it was circumstantially inappropriate

finding out I was autistic changed my life in such a profound unbelievable way, so much of the anguish I had coiled inside of me just wilted when I stopped living this life of self-punishment and charade for the sake of trying to operate as something I'm not. and for years I knew I probably was but was so vehemently in denial about it because I so badly wanted not to be, even when professionals wanted to query it. all this to say that maybe if you care about the wellbeing of autistic people you would actually get up and do something that helps people in the real world instead of zoning in on the "everyone online thinks they're autistic now" wave that achieves piss all

I have this Murderbot fanfic idea (romance/ship free)
Murderbot gets sent to a junker/recycler planet to find evidence for something and, to its dismay, meets the repaired rogue bots there. Lots of pleasure units living like a real community, basically. MB was already a whole mess interacting with the less human bots on Preservation. Imagine someone motions to a new bot in a crumpled heap and mentions its 'happiness module' busted. Murderbot definitely has some emotions about this.
Story would hopefully play with the idea of privledge and unfairness that some people just have it way better for no effort. Also the jealousy inherent from someone who doesn't have/never had those things. And how that jealousy sometimes causes them to ignore and dismiss any real problems or feelings that more privileged person has (the bot is in a crumpled heap on a junker planet for some reason after all, and happiness modual implies forced feelings on pleasure bots - I'm thinking monkey drug trials levels of unethical - like a hit of dopamine when they do something right and they're dependent people pleaser addicts)
Junker planet why? Recyclers exist right? Maybe this junk planet gets whole ships' worth of decommissioned stuff that companies can't be bothered to filter through a recycler themselves. Like, what do they do with it when a company gathers all the debris from an exploded terraforming operation that they legally have to clean up. Or maybe the junkers go capture it for recycling themselves.
Also could have a scene of murderbot finding "decomissioned" sec units and the horror and sadness of that. Murdebot often struggles with feeling like an object that can be thrown away as soon as it's not useful. But to end up here rotting in a pile of other junk... whole damn fic would be very existential.

there has to b smth wrong w me right . like i know all artists dont like their own work and were all always learning the skill vs taste plateau etc etc etc. but my art has been stagnant and in some areas regressing for a very very long time now and i know the solution is to keep drawing and draw with intent but i just never ever do . like no matter how much i want to (have always wanted to. this has been a problem for me since like age 14) i just dont. why is that
