that cellbit clip really put in perspective to me how much the qsmp impacted me personally. when the brazilians joined in april i watched that cellbit stream i had it opened to see who this guy was and i did not understand anything he was saying. i was very quickly aware of that. fast forward five months later. i rewatched that first day cellbit vod and understood everything. without the qsmp i would never in my life had made the effort to try and learn to understand portuguese that was something that was never in my plans or something i wouldve imagined. but it just happened gradually because of this fucking minecraft server and its really really awesome. quackity has done something quite amazing

More IRL Lego Lancer!

We played the Tomb of Delios one-shot by Katherine Stark. Some NPC comp / sitrep spoilers ahead.

I used the backs of old trivial pursuit boards for grids, egg cartons, poster tubes, and a big Roomba box + insert for terrain.

I coated the cardboard with this flour and glue paste recipe I found on youtube.

I found a bunch of cheap-ish large lego octogons and walls online for the modular buildings, then greebled them with misc urban details I collected from my local bricks & minifigs bulk by-volume bins.

Our PCs were a Swallowtail artillery (callsign Bandit; an SSC plant in the union auxilliaries), Störtebeker striker (callsign Roadkill, silver-nanite kintsugi'd mechromancer), and Black Witch support (callsign Egret, disgraced princess (gotta be one of my favorite genders)).

The elite cataphract ended up playing trapdoor spider for most of the game; hiding in a magical healing forest (thank u support o7) and grappling PCs back into the forest with it.

Its scariest turn was popping out, structuring the Bandit and destroying his siege stabilizers, and lassoing it back into the forest. Egret came to the rescue and finally did the cataphract in with perimeter command plate/impact lance/crit thrown tactical knife overwatch combo.

The Swallowtail never took any voluntary movement after deploying its siege stab round 1, but between rainmaker knockback, the aforementioned trapdoor spider incident, and allied ferrous lashes, and a few rams, it was pingponged around the map pretty significantly.

"Come out Rainmaker, I just want to talk."

The final threat to the objective was when a bastion clambered up onto the pipeline to contest them. The Störtebeker (whose mini was having trouble standing up on the pipeline) pulled an indiana jones and just shot it down.

For the pre-battle narrative section, I made two 4-step clocks out of lego and a minimap as the party visited various districts of the city. Both were totally unnecessary but I think added a lot to the IRL experience.

All in all, it was a lot of fun! Things that worked well/could be improved on:

The aforementioned mini stability. I should add more baseplates to the minis to making moving and standing them up less finicky.

As cool as the egg carton bottoms are, having flat surfaces is just better. Going to stick with the tops going forward.

The grid ground floor worked great. I should trace more grids onto the egg cartons and larger boxes. I also made a few measuring sticks out of dowels and that was super handy.

Witchdice on phones continues to work well for PC character sheets.

I made a handful of status tokens that we could put next to mechs. They were handy for consumable statuses like lock-on, but less so for memorable ones like exposed and hidden.

We needed more little indicators for misc systems like Javelin Rockets and Iceout Drone.

It was fun to be able to follow up "how do you want to do this" with "you may now destroy the mini".

Actually, let me rant about the last one for a bit. It's called 'A Cosmic Kiss' and it's the work I'm most proud of. It's about the anthropomorphized meteorite that killed the dinosaurs. Go read it, it's under 1k words and by far my best work (in my opinion at least).

What else goes into a pinned post? Uhm, I have two sideblogs (evaporatedh2o and frozen-crystalline-water) where I reblog art and quotes for future projects of mine.

Irl I'm a veterinarian, so that's pretty cool.

I also do acrylic paintings and tailor clothes. I have a surprisingly green thumb and I'm handy around the apartment. I cook often and in December you can most likely find me in the kitchen baking Christmas cookies.

Some people put a tag system at the end of their pinned posts, but honestly, I don't have an actual system for that and I don't post that much to bother.

i know everyone's gonna think my response is gonna kneejerk be neji, but actually no

i love neji but i'd have a really hard time irl tolerating his attitude so no. plus there's not much to teach him.

but i need a well rounded team and someone with a lot of potential, so maybe hinata, and then making her learn medicine ninjutsu bc it goes well with the byakugan. so with hinata, i'd have med-nin and taijutsu/close range covered. plus ofc her sight would come in handy as a scouting device/anti genjutsu mechanism. (realizing hinata could have been sooo overpowered)

next i need someone mid-range or versatile. in versatility i'd ask for tenten. she knows a lot of weapons so she's really versatile, plus later she learns fuiinjutsu and space-time ninjutsu, so that makes her a really flexible sort of fighter. generally i think she's underexploited.

finally i need a long range person. this leaves me with shino, shikamaru, kankuro, ino, and sai. i cant do insects so its a no for shino. ino's powers have a handicap that i think would be difficult for her prospective teammates to manage so no to that.

that leaves kankuro, shikamaru, and sai. it would be cool to see what can be achieved between kankuro and tenten, but i dont know why i just cant teach tenten to use puppets/chakra thread, since she already has a grasp of that sort of thing, so kankuro's redundant. sai would be great and useful but ultimately he's just not as expoitable as shikamaru. while shikamaru's attitude would be annoying to deal with, shikamaru has the long range shadow ninjutsu, PLUS he's a rational thinker to counter hinata and tenten's recklessness/lack of confidence. plus it would be fun to put him in an all girls team and see how his misogyny thing would work out. i think he'd have an interesting dynamic with tenten and hinata.

so yeah! clan inclinations aside, i think my team would be hinata, tenten, and shikamaru! i'd train them to have as many different skills as possible and their strategies would mostly rely on the specialized position they hold in the team. i'd REALLY milk the byakugan and shikamaru's shadow technique thing and i'd also push tenten more into space-time ninjutsu.

"WELCOME BACK TO THE STREAM, BOYS!" Tommy exclaims, rubbing his hands together as he starts rapid-fire answering questions about the stream, and the stream title from chat. It's funny, how over time, Tommy's come to see Chat as this one entity- an old friend. The nervousness of answering questions as a fifteen year old with nothing but a big personality, a twitch account and a copy of Minecraft is all but gone now, nineteen years old and happier than he's ever been.

Dreadfulzombie19: what are u doin this stream

"THANK YOU FOR ASKING, Dreadfulzombie19, today is gonna be a bit different, innit Tubbo?" Tommy raises his voice a bit at the end of his sentence, just loud enough for one of his flatmates to hear him. When Tubbo yells back an affirmative, Tommy turns back to his setup. Chat's gone a bit wild again, even though he, Tubbo and Ranboo have been living together for over a year now.

"Okay, okay, calm down chat- so recently I was at university, as usual right? And I had an eight AM class again, and… yeah I can see you all can relate."

"BUT! BUT! On my way back to the flat, I saw something really cool." Tommy hesitates in his speech to take a sip of coke again- his blood pressure's been acting up lately and watches Chat to wild again, asking him what he saw.

"Okay, so there was a shop- new place, which doesn't happen often this is fucking Brighton- and they sold skirts and dresses and stuff with adjustments for AMAB sizes!" Chat goes a bit bonkers, but Tommy's mod team- a little smaller than it used to be, now that he isn't the centre of YouTube or Twitch attention anymore, none of them are- are handling it, and pretty well.

"So I had to go, right? As many of you probably know, last year, I made the astounding discovery that gender-based stereotypes and expectations are, in fact, fake and I should not give a SHIT. And so I go in and look through the stuff- it's a really poggers shop by the way, and I find the perfect thing- it was the most poggers skirts and shit, okay? So, today's stream is going to have me wearing this pogchamp shit and wearing it right, with the help of…" Tommy ends his monologue by picking up the joke shaker-things that Phil had gotten him as a housewarming gift last year and indicates for his first two helpers to enter the office.

In walks his mother, face obscured from view as always, waving to the camera, and Wilbur, also wearing one of his only skirts for this occasion. Eret had taught him, on a phonecall in the skirt shop that week about the different types of skirts with a handy diagram. Wilbur's was a pleated circle skirt, brown to offset the bright yellow of his sweater and beanie, the same colour as his hair. It's very swoosh-y, so he's wearing black leggings with his regular shoes too. Motherinnit's also wearing her favourite skirt, a baby blue prairie skirt, Tommy thinks, and it's one he's seen fairly often.

Wilbur ducks down in order to show his face to Chat, and ruffles Tommy's hair while he's at it. Tommy's taller, but not by much, so Wilbur still fucking makes short jokes, That fucker.

Chat is now going so fast that he simply cannot read anything but some of the all caps messages and can barely make out some of the emotes.

"Okay, OKAY, CALM DOWN CHAT! WE HAVE TO GET TO FUCKING BUSINESS!" Tommy yells into the mix, like he did when he was sixteen and used the 'many people find me annoying at first' intro. Nowadays he just lets the content speak for itself. Anyone who wants to be here already is, by now.

Wilbur laughs a bit, and that hasn't changed at all. "Tommy, how is chat supposed to calm down if you're not calm?"

"I am their god!! They will obey via sheer digital willpower!" Tommy replies back, pretty zealously (What? An English Literature class is mandatory for his film degree, and The Great Gatsby by Zelda Fitzgerald is a good book, as are most of the other assigned ones. He's had entire conversations with Techno with just lit quotes and it drives everyone insane. Tommy loves it.) Chat seemingly has listened to his godlike abilities, with a few OG's spotting his half-quotation of one of Dream's last lines in the Dream SMP. The rest are spamming 'MOTHERINNIT'.

"If having a shitty magic trick book from a washed-up politician makes you a god, then what does that make me?" Wilbur replies, with one of Foolish's lines and swatting his hand at Tommy. Tommy swats back.

"Bitch" "Arsehole" "Shithead" "Fuckface" Wilbur finishes cheerily, as if this happens all the time. It does. Chat's used their antics now, four years of consistently making content together will do that for you.

Eventually Motherinnit reminds them both to get back on Topic, and Tommy goes back to facing the camera, addressing Chat directly.

"Today, my beloved mother, and my idiot brother-" "hey!" "And maybe my flatmates will be joining me to show off some cool as SHIT skirts! And a dress or two. We all have our selections, right?" Everyone nods in affirmative, even Tubbo and Ranboo. Though the camera can't see them. Ranboo's just come home from his final class, then. He should probably take the first hour back off, and judging by how Tubbo is forcefully judging Ranboo to the shower, he probably gets it. Tommy signs an affirmative to both of them, and gets back to the camera, where Wilbur's showing off all of his (very poggers) very stupid brown or yellow skirts. Tommy's are in cool colours, for fuck's sake.

"Oh yeah, Puffy just confirmed she'll be on stream! She'll be here in about twenty minutes, accounting for fucking traffic, and Niki' going to get onto VC after her own stream, what game is it this time?"

"GRIS." Wilbur answers.

"Poggers- she is the SHIT and will join us soon! So expect some QUALITY QUALITY content this stream!! Remember to not spam her chat to finish faster." Exclaims Tommy, even if it ends up as a light warning, as he picks up his own very poggers skirts from the extra armchair in his office to show the camera.

One is the classic red and white, mostly white but with bright red on the waist (elastic) and the bottom, and it reached to about Tommy's knee, if worn at the hip. It had no pleats, but the red bits were a very nice velvet texture, and while the skirt was heavy, it still had very much swoosh value, and pockets!! Big ones!! He slips the skirt on top of his jeans before entering camera view, the skirt visible in all its classic Tommyinnit glory, as he takes his place right next to Wilbur, who just took. a quick spin at the behest of several dono's., Skirt spying out from his lower shins all the way to his knee, making visible one of his (many) petticoats. ("What? It's cold all the fucking time here, Toms.") Tommy also makes a quick little spin, skirt flying outward, not upward, so it looks like he's hula hooping for a moment there. Lastly, Motherinnit spins around too, and while her skirts do not swoosh, she looks opulent, like she was about to go to waltz with the enemy, for whom she has a dagger in the back of her dress for. (He finished Anna Karenina and the Six of Crows duology within the same week and has not yet recovered. Jack Edwards is laughing at him as he thinks in his English Lit Graduate glory.)

It's fun, trying on different skirts- he and Wilbur accidentally bought the same dress at one point, which they paired up to wear, darting off into their respective changing rooms while giggling like idiots with their checkered blouses and the grindl skirts that Niki had sent over when she heard of this stream idea, laughing the whole time. Tubbo enters as dramatically as possible with Puffy, and while Tubbo looks really fucking good in his handkerchief skirt with embroidered bees and plain white shirt, it's Puffy who steals the show with an exact, real life version of her red banquet dress.

Fans from way back in the SMP, before Tommy had started branching out start going insane and are bringing back emotes Tommy wasn't sure were still available, but she is fucking stunning- deep shades of red and crimson, with slits on either side of her waist and all the detailing. She'd gotten the contact for her dressmaker through Bernadette Banner, Tommy recalls- she was so fucking cool when she streamed with him once, and gotten him to swear less and supplant those world's with bigger ones to intimidate instead. While he still curses like a sailor as part of his persona, it's less so and he does way less in real life these days, unless the situation calls for it. It's also just rude, especially in uni libraries, where he spends too much time these days wondering why he didn't read more as a kid.

Puffy's stolen his audience for a WHILE, and Niki coming on hasn't helped any, so Tommy exits camera view for a while to hug Ranboo really quickly- he's had midterms and has basically been dying all month.

Everyone on this stream- Tommy, Wilbur, Motherinnit, Tubbo, Puffy, Niki and Ranboo enter the camera frame after entering their dressing rooms for the last time on this particular stream, Puffy with full in-character wigs and makeup, Tommy in an Edwardian-Gothic reminiscent black and red dress, Ranboo in something he bought when he gap-yeared in Japan, punk lolita or something, Niki flaunting her pink in a Marie Antoinette style show of finery, Tubbo dressing in all green this time, something like a very deranged biology teacher who hasn't slept in days (Tubbo hasn't-Tommy has to get into that), Wilbur like a forest-nymph, all earthy tones and swishy fabrics and nature highlights, and finally Motherinnit, who hasn't changed but is here to take pictures as they all lean in together to fit into frame, as drastic as their height difference is. Niki is going to be edited in later, and everyone on the 'Dream SMP but nobody does Dream SMP and we're all fucking nerds' discord server is going to get a copy.

The stream wraps up there, after about two hours, and it's only about six in the evening- a far cry from the late nights and long hours from the beginning of Tommy's career, so everyone runs to their changing areas for the last time, into pajamas now, and packs away all of the clothes they wore, properly, as to not incense Karolina Zebrowska, and Jemma, Dan's wife, who would look at them disappointedly and nobody wants a sad Jemma because that means no cooing at their son. Also it just feels shitty.

Everyone huddles in Tommy, Tubbo and Ranboo's living room, and they out on UP for like, the millionth fucking time (they still cry when Ellie dies), and Tommy is leaning into Wilbur's side and feeling his mum play with the hair in his very small, stubby ponytail he's developed by being in Uni as he and Tubbo intertwine their legs together and Ranboo rests his head in the tangle of limbs, playing with his fidget cube. Puffy stays on Wilbur's side, intently texting someone and smiling the whole while, and Tommy takes a moment to reflect (something he's been getting better at doing) on how the actual hell they all got here.

The Dream SMP was always going to end- everyone knew it, if course, they were the fucking writers. But by the time they did, not only were their respective brands too closely intertwined to just… sever that quickly, but they'd become too close to even want to. So the SMP discord never shut, even though Dream and George had planned it months ago, and they continued supporting each other with their interests. Wilbur made a lot more music solo, with his band and even just random ass streams where he practiced guitar for an hour. He kept playing Minecraft, but it wasn't his main focus. A bunch of people left. More stayed. YouTube left him alone.

Dream, George and Sapnap are still Minecraft streamers, but their YouTube channels are mostly blogs of them being poor excuses of adults with other former SMP members joining in sometimes. Tommy and the Dream Team were closer than ever, even though the seeds of their friendship had been sowed when they used to linger after heavy streams together, reassuring each other that none of that was true and that nothing like… that would happen in real life, because Dream had used real abuse tactics, and those still hurt unless immediately taken care of. So they were. It was a running joke that Dream was stuck at 99 million subscribers since nobody really wanted the face reveal anymore. The other Dream team members were doing peachy.

Phil and Techno were also still primarily Minecraft streamers, but they also released things like advice videos and mental health stuff, especially for relationships. They had a new scripted series where Tommy was a minor character. The dadza jokes were still as real, and yes, outside of streaming, both of them were lovely people and responsible adults (mostly). They collaborated with DanTDM and co a lot more now.

Puffy and Niki kept doing games, but did lots of different ones, testing point and clickers to triple A titles, and making it all fucking hilarious while they were at it.

So where had that left Tommy?

After the Dream SMP, he'd kind of had no idea what to do, and he was going to University for the first time, so he just… did whatever he thought would be fun. He learned about vintage fashion from the queens themselves- Mina Le, Bernadette Banner and Karolina Zebrowska and had fun learning how to sew for the first time, fixing and making his own clothes for the first time, clunky as they were, Wilbur had cried, genuinely, when he saw the Lovejoy shirts that Tommy had made for the band. He'd found a genuine love for literature in university, so Tommy started talking to booktubers and studytubers like Jack Edwards and Noelle Stevenson. Tubbo and Ranboo had joined him, fucking around in any YouTube niche they found even remotely interesting. Eventually, they all found a happy medium- a bit of everything.

Some people obviously weren't happy with that but Tommy was happy as he was, making what he liked with his best friend's, living together close enough to most of their friends (family) to have fun and drop in on one another at ass-o-clock in the morning to comfort, to laugh. His sub count hasn't gone up in a while- most of his audience is static, with about 80-90k online on a stream at any time.p

It was a nice feeling, to have carved out a space for himself and the people he loves, and be is so, so glad that he got this chance.

Looking at his mostly asleep family, Tommy thinks 'yeah. Life is good.' as the last thought before he sleeps.

ooof swerve :( swerve is one of those characters who you’re like ‘haha he’s funny’ most of the time but pretty often he’ll have startling moments of like, deep pain about life or w/e, and you’re like Oh Shit and then you kinda move on, until finally the swearth arc hits and it all comes together. what I'm saying is that this is some nice building towards that

ooof and more swerve introspection. i mentioned earlier but i fucking LOVE how this series showcases the extremely wide range of reactions/coping mechanisms that everyone has towards the endless war finally being over - and swerve really nails it here: confusing peace with happiness, and assuming that everything would automatically be better after the war is over, when in reality you still have to work just as hard to build shit rather than break it

also i adore the horror of a guy who is half-embedded in the wall, his face stuck in a rictus of terror & death, waxing philosophical about how peace is about the freedom of choice, and how they should all just feel lucky to have survived...oof, that's very specifically ironic coming from you, dude 

but i do love the little characterization we get here for ore, a character who is literally already dead and has so far been used as a plot device pretty exclusively, but we still get to know little things about him here, and how HE feels about the war and the current peace, etcetc. it really makes the story and characters seem believable, like every character has a story even if we don't take the time to see it

and drift and ratchet’s very opposing and polarizing views certainty do make for interesting perspectives, tho i feel like the story sometimes leans too much towards ratchet being ‘more correct’ bc, logic! or something idk i feel like i used to have a couple mild opinions on this but i don't remember

anyways - the annual! i love this issue. its really long which is cool and i feel like it does a lot to flesh out the setting and lore, and even the characters as well. also, as i said above, it does an excellent job telling an exciting and well-contained story, with solid story beats throughout and plot threads that emerge and get resolved all within this issue, even while leaving plenty of stuff up for future resolution. that's the Early MTMTE Special, and i adore it. tho i will say I'm glad we’ll be getting back to the regularly scheduled art style, bc this one didn't really do it for me

Hi!! So I took a small class tonight about tarot cards and I’m SO EXCITED to start! Do you have any advice for somebody just starting out?

oh thats so cool, i’m excited for you! what sort of stuff did the class cover?

I’ve got 4 main points of advice but i’ve broken them down into smaller sections based on what i’ve used and what i’ve seen others talk about. Take what you feel works, ignore what you think won’t help or what sounds dumb or whatever. There are so many ways to approach tarot and what worked for me won’t necessarily work for you so test things out and play around with it. If you have any more questions about things i haven’t covered or if you want me to elaborate on anything or link some more resources please let me know!

Tip 1: Get a deck.

obvious place to start but having the cards is an easy first step lmao. there are also apps available if you can’t get a physical copy but being able to shuffle a physical decks will probably help you connect to it better. 

I recommend something based on the Rider Waite Smith imagery because so much of the images inform the meanings of the cards and will help you learn - there are tonnes of different RWS decks out there, This one is quite bright, This one is a bit more muted in colour, This one has redone the art so it’s in the art nouveau style while keeping the RWS images, This one has modernised it so it’s not just white men on most of the cards

If you want some more suggestions for good decks for beginners I recommend watching THIS video or looking around youtube. Tarot readers/cardslingers/whatever you want to call them like showing off their collections. There are so many videos of people talking about which decks they own and showing off what the cards look like (even i made one lmao) so it’s a great way to get an idea of what a deck looks like and the size of the cards or even the weight of the cardstock they’re made with, even if you can’t physically touch them.

But the easiest way is to find a deck in your local bookstore and see how it feels for you. You want something you enjoy looking at, and that resonates for you because you’ll be able to connect with it easier

After that you can branch out if you want. Some readers only have one deck that they do everything with, others collect decks like people collect coins. Personally I like using different decks for different questions but a solid RWS deck will work for anything so if that’s all you feel you need then that’s cool too. 

Tip 2: Start a Tarot Journal

this is what i did when i started. I bought a cheap notebook from the newsagency on my way to work and I dedicated 2 pages to every card. I titled them and then wrote down what the little white books that came with the decks i had said about each card as well as made notes on what imagery/symbolism was on each card. As I’ve learnt more I’ve added to these pages, observances i’ve made about when the cards are likely to appear, things i’ve seen other readers comment on (like someone i follow refers to the 5 of cups (i think) as the unrequited love card), relations to astrology, anything interesting i’ve read about the cards that i didn’t already have written down.

At the back end of the notebook I write down results for interviews i do with new decks

and i also have a section for particular spreads i like after all of the individual card pages but there are so many things you can write about in tarot journals.

i’ve seen some people do a daily card draw in the morning and write what the card could be referring to and then at the end of the day they write about what happened and how it related to the cards

I’ve seen others that try to relate song lyrics or movie quotes to each card to help them remember what the card means.

if you look for ideas on google or youtube i’m sure you’ll find examples of what people do with tarot journals. 

Tip 3: Seek out info from other readers

One way to do this is books. There are so many book out there, especially for beginners, that talk about advice for reading cards, ways to help you learn the meanings, spreads that come in handy, etc. I read a book called Kitchen Table Tarot by Melissa Cynova when i was first learning and found it really helpful. But there are heaps of others out there too. Most bookstores will have a “new age” section so browse around and see if theres something you like the look of. Same goes for libraries. Or places like audible if you like audio books. 

Podcasts are also a thing. I don’t have any specific recommendations but i’ve come across references to witchy podcasts so I’m sure there’d be something tarot specific out there.

Youtube is also brilliant. I love watching pick a card reading videos. It’s a really easy way to see how other readers interpret cards, what sort of systems they use. I like Siren Tarot and Charmed Intuition Tarot. They both read very differently. Siren uses multiple tarot decks in rows to figure out the story. Charmed is more likely to combine her tarot cards with oracle cards and she reads charms as well and sometimes uses a pendulum. 

There’s also a witchy community on tumblr as well, so have a look around, maybe follow some people or lurk in tags. 

Tip 4: Practice.

Read for yourself, asking different questions. Love life, career, friendship, family relationships, goals you have, whatever comes to mind. Do daily/weekly/monthly readings for yourself. Get a feel for how the cards operate. Start with one card, learn how to interpret it, what it might mean in relation to your question. Then add another couple of cards, see how the meaning gets clarified by what appears around it. Make notes as you go. This is where a journal comes in handy because if you write down what cards come up and what happens on those days you can start seeing patterns and that helps you understand the cards better next time they come up.

Read for others too. People you trust that you feel won’t make fun of you learning tarot or won’t talk shit about it. Close friends, family. Or, if you don’t have anyone irl, do what I did and let people ask for readings online. Start a specific blog for it if you want. It’s good if you know them irl because you can easily ask them how things turned out, see if you were on the money or if your interpretation was off then you can go back to what was drawn for them and see how it connects, if it does at all. 

Don’t be afraid to read cards with the guidebook in your hand. That’s what they’re there for, to help you understand the cards. You can often get a sense of the card, if it’s positive or negative and what its meaning is, by looking at the imagery but use the books for as long as you need!

Create your own rituals around your cards. Some guides will tell you to sleep with your deck under your pillow or beside your bed so you can connect with it as you sleep, some will tell you to cleanse your deck in sunshine or moonlight or with smoke from a candle or by placing a specific type of crystal on top of it. Figure out what works for you. Cleansing can come in handy, especially if you do something that’s emotionally heavy, being able to clear that energy from your deck will give you better results in the next reading but if letting your deck sit in the moonlight sounds kinda crazy to you don’t do it. Personally, when i’m getting ready to do readings I light a candle and make a cup of tea or coffee. I’ll knock on the deck to wake it up and maybe pass it over the top of the candle if I feel like it. It’s about making a space you feel comfortable in. 

Don’t read when you’re emotionally compromised. If you’re completely distressed and having the worst week of your life your results aren’t going to be as clear or accurate as if you’re in a more stable frame of mind. It’s why a lot of people like to meditate for a bit before they do readings. It lets them centre themselves and focus their energy on the cards. 

Don’t be afraid of your intuition. If you draw a card and a phrase pops into your mind, include it in your reading. If you see something on the card, even if it’s a small image, and you feel like it’s important, mention it or note it down or whatever. It might seem like it comes from out of nowhere but it’s your intuition picking up on something small you might not even realise you’ve noticed.

maybe a new mini generated structure (like desert fountains and such), a wolf den?? a small cave sometimes spawning on the side of a hill. not sure what would be in there. maybe a skull and raw meat

since cats can repel creepers, it would be handy if ur dog would bark or growl when a creeper is approaching. saves having it blow you and your doggy up

going back to the wolf howl, it would be cool if there was a sound event if youre in a forest/taiga and there are wolves nearby, that, on a full moon, u could hear a pack of wolves howling. adds more life to the game

like with cats, give us more dog breeds

In the midst of my existential crisis over Night Channels, I’ve been writing other stuff. All Yoonmin. I thought I might put together some samples, some intro paragraphs and summaries.

Gin and Sin

Modern ABO AU - Jimin and Yoongi are Omega and Alpha rights activists, respectively, lobbying on opposite political ends. Things fall apart when they meet in person.

I’m about 10k words in and this one is already very very NSFW. There’s cheating... neither Yoongi nor Jimin have much self-control in the face of their compatibility, despite their political agendas, and it’s a bit of a moral dilemma. Questionable morals and long in-depth talks about ABO dynamics. I guess that’s my MO.

Sleep Well Beast

Pack ABO AU - Outlines Yoongi and Jimin’s journey from pups in their pack to being a mated pair. Everything is perfect and idyllic until the day Yoongi doesn’t come back from a hunt. Six years after he never comes back, a gnarled black wolf starts showing up on the edges of Jimin’s new life. Very angsty. Like. The saddest thing I’ve ever written? I wrote the bulk of the 6k words (so far) listening to Call Out My Name on repeat for hours and hours. I literally have 200 plays of that song. This is how it starts:

The day Jimin met Yoongi he was a newborn pup, eyes still gummed shut, grouped together in a large nest with the other pups born that Spring. Yoongi’s mom was in charge of looking over the young that season, and Yoongi—a very curious two-(and-a-half!)-year-old—often accompanied her. Turning from human to wolf was not well controlled among newborns, and their inconsistent transformations only added to the confusion of adjusting to life outside the womb. Yoongi would lay among the pups, let them grip his fur with their small fists, and would lick their faces clean until they stopped crying.

Episodic and visceral.

Dark Matter

College AU - Jimin moves into a new house the summer before his junior year in college. He loves his new roommates, all unique and genius in their various graduate and undergraduate fields. He doesn’t see Yoongi much though, summer schedules diametrically opposed, so he’s forced to build a picture of the man through brief weekend encounters and the information he gathers from his other roommates. He wants to pull Yoongi into the circle, the perfect group of 7, but from what he’s heard about his hyung, his approach might need to be a bit unconventional.

This one is kind of different... Jimin hears that Yoongi is unaffected, that he uses people for his goals (music inspiration, etc.) and wants to prove that he can do the same to Yoongi, turn it around on him. 12k words so far. The narration is a bit more... cool? Casual? Jimin is a bit egotistical. (Yoongi lives in the attic!!!) Here’s a snippet:

They leave the small living room and Namjoon leads him down a small hall and into the kitchen. It’s decidedly... stocked for a bachelor pad kitchen. The countertops are granite, laden with every kitchen appliance or food gadget that Jimin can put a name to, a ton that he can’t. Cereal, chips, snacks, fruit. Shiny pots and pans dangle from a rack above the island. They have three coffee makers, two microwaves, and a huge fridge covered with all manner of crayon-scrawled drawings of dicks. Dicks with hats, dicks dressed as devils, dicks with butterfly wings.

“Creative,” Jimin insists, leaning in to examine a dick in the style of The Mona Lisa.

Namjoon smiles. “Those are the weekly masterpieces of our lovely Taehyung. Photo and Studio Arts double major.”

Jimin nods sagely. “He sounds brilliant.”

Lit Me Up  (Title will prob change)

Sci-Fi AU, might be set in the early OW universe if you squint really really hard - Jimin is the last member to join a new squad of 7 slapped together hastily under the insistence of Namjoon, who’s fighting desperately to find a useful place for Yoongi within the budding South Korean Soldier Enhancement Program. As the other 6 try to sort Yoongi’s mess, Jimin develops his own powers amid needles and fever dreams and weeks of drug-induced sleep. Jimin might just be the piece of the puzzle that Namjoon needs to fix Yoongi and make them a viable team.

I’m really excited but really unsure about this one. The first 3k words have no names, each member has a number (in the order they joined Bangtan IRL), and it’s confusing, but that’s ok because Jimin is confused too! Like. This could be cool. Really cool. Inspired by 137 and Lit Me Up by Brand New. Echoes of greek mythos kinda, in the roles/abilities they have. This is how it starts ATM:

1 was brave and calculating 2 was sturdy and magnanimous 3 was bright and optimistic 4 was versatile and strong 5 was unblemished and unyielding 6 was insouciant and charismatic 7 was:

Vomiting everywhere, stomach a black hole opened out of spite to regurgitate every atom of celestial matter ever sucked down its dark maw. He focused on the thick folder of papers slid halfway across his inset bunk bed, trying to remember the single page of orientation papers he’d managed to read before he’d grabbed the nearest trash can and promptly started upchucking into it, his regulation fiber-rich diet looking much more substantial on the way up than it had on the way down. They had pricked him with needles and given him a dorm number and a handy packeted guide to his life for the next who-knew-how-many-years and sent him on his hapless way. He’d found the dorm and a seat and had promptly started vomiting.

The narration is definitely more colorful in this one. Lots of metaphor. This is how he meets Yoongs:

He sobbed pathetically in the aftermath of the second wave, convinced that he was on the verge of exploding, imploding, dying—hands gripping anything within reach. He had a few seconds of respite to cry but soon felt the pricks of a third wave starting. He tensed his muscles in preparation, but suddenly felt his upper body being lifted up. He was shoved into a seated position momentarily, only to be dropped back down onto something... something squishy and warm and kind of bony. He couldn’t open his eyes, didn’t want to witness whatever was digesting him alive, apprehensive as the sensation began to build again. To his shock, two large hands cupped his jaw, squeezing firmly—but not too hard—and this time when the sensation peaked it only felt like his body was covered in bad sunburn. His skin smarted against bed and tense fingers, but soon the pain slowly ebbed and was gone. The hands that had been clenching the sides of his head slid down to open his jaw.

A pill, a choke, a shudder, and he was sleeping again.

7 drifted in and out of shallow consciousness, eyes blinking open blurrily. He had vivid dreams, visions of battling elements and liquid landscapes that shifted in torrential open waves and smeared entire ecosystems out of existence. Forests set ablaze, life and love choked out and broken down to basic elements buffeted by opaque smoke and blankets of ash.

He opened his eyes to see someone sitting behind him, his head on their lap, but all he could make out was a tensely clenched jaw, eyes covered with dark, wavy bangs. He felt fingers around his throat and idly wondered if they were the reason why he felt like he was suffocating. No. They were cool on his skin, slippery almost. He closed his eyes and dreamed.

Bones of the earth washed up on shores, stones of every color and makeup piled to form beaches of rock and glass, planets buffeting into planets and shattering to form larger, dustier planets. The universe’s initial eruption, humanity formed in its penultimate act just to witness its final destruction. Everything happening at once.

So that’s what I’ve been working on.

I’m also 8k into Night Channels chapter 5. It’s in Jimin’s POV. It’s a good time. I’m scared. I really hope I finish it soon. Cheers~

becca! i haven’t fleshed out my headcanons for her yet, but i think she realized her feelings for althea shortly after they hooked up (it was an insiduous thing i think), but before chapter 17 in book 3 (because that’s when she talks about her unrequited crush to mc if they’re not single lol).

on althea’s side, she was also attracted to becca when they first met (and was actually gonna ask her out), but then becca spilled coffee on her clothes so :’)

she ranted to zack and kaitlyn about how aggravating it was that “the attractive ones are assholes” and tbh becca being “hot as the flames of hell where she reigns” was an inside joke between the three of them in book 1 HAHA

despite not condoning becaa’s attitude and the way she treats people in the early books, althea did develop a grudging respect for becca’s loyal, driven and ambitious nature. she also finds becca’s sass hilarious (when it’s not offensive or directed at her and her friends) and checks out becca’s burns on twitter hehe

after they hooked up, they more or less started talking (both online and irl) and getting closer behind-the-scenes. sometime during book 4′s roadtrip, althea kept wondering how becca was doing and thinking of how much she missed becca. when she got the phone call from becca, she was really ecstatic and kilig, and that’s when she realized she got it bad for her former rival.

she sulks pretty badly when she doesn’t get her daily dose of cuddles. and one time, she sulked pretty badly when althea accidentally ignored becca in favor of updating her popular 100,000+ thousand word slowburn tcatf val/kenna/annelyse fanfic. i wish it existed.

of course, althea now has a better understanding of becca’s life so she will support becca no matter that decision she makes regarding the matter.

they usually shop together, but becca usually takes the lead since she’s more organized and efficient. althea takes the lead in cooking. she taught becca how to cook, and becca is very scarily handy with a knife.

becca! althea isn’t a slob by any means but she keeps forgetting where she puts stuff. becca rolls her eyes as she hands althea the Thing she’d been looking for. she can’t help but smile when althea gives her a jubilant thank you kiss on the cheek.

Feeding Dragons on Long-Term Space Missions

Now, I know that most peoples' lore doesn't concern spaceflight, but... a) why the heck not? I think spaceflight being cool is like, one of the 2.1 things you can get the Arcanist and the Stormcatcher to agree on, and b) no one ever said they DON'T have rockets yet... So I've decided to brainstorm ways of feeding dragons on long spaceflight missions.

It's worth noting that this post is going to concern sustainable ways of feeding dragons for the purpose of deep-space missions. In other words, yeah, they can have ration bars/jerkey/dehydrated meals and stuff, and while in orbit around Sonrieth you can definitely have restocking missions launched up to the Interflight Space Station or whatever, but let's assume they're on a multiple-year mission to one of the other planets in their solar system for the time being.

Plants

Plants are pretty simple: veg gardens! Like the actual ISS has right now. This would also be an opportunity to study the effect of Nature magic on dragons/plants while they're hundreds/thousands/millions(? depends how depe in space) of km away from Sonrieth. For deep-space missions, this would also help regulate the onboard atmosphere. Medicinal plants could also be grown, and biochemist dragons could probably turn them into functional medicine (or maybe not even that; aloe seems like a REALLY handy thing to have on hand if someone gets burnt, considering how easy it is to get the medicinal part out of the aloe. This even benifits dragons who have aloe allergies, because until the aloe dies, dragons without aloe allergies won't be using aloe-free burn resources onboard the spacecraft.)

Bugs

Bugs are kind of where it gets interesting as far as I'm concerned, because theoretically, insects, especially pollinators, would actually benefit an onboard farm biome. This would require the veg garden to be its own module. It would have to have some sort of double door, similar to a butterfly garden, in order to prevent bugs from entering the rest of a spacecraft. It wouldn't have to be as secure as, say, an airlock, but come on, do you really want dune vampires biting at your arms while you're trying to maneuver your spacecraft in orbit around an alien planet?

I think to have a sustainable supply of bugs within the veg garden module, you'd have to have at least a few specific "homes" for them, so to speak. (It's worth noting that I'm not an entomologist; if it isn't obvious yet, I'm looking to go into space sciences of some sort, with an ideal goal being working with satellites.) These... hives? General bug housing stations would allow the bugs to reproduce and gather food as they would on Sonrieth, albeit in weightlessness. This would allow pollinators to pollinate the veg garden, but also having enough bugs for bug-eating dragons to have fresh meals now and then.

which means... how much effort do you want to put into to have a sustainable veg garden? you could have aphids so you could have ladybugs, which might be a little more protein-filled than other bugs since they eat other bugs, but... if the ladybugs die, then you have aphids infesting your veg garden.

Meat/Seafood

Well, ofc meat & seafood can be prepackaged and rehydrated onboard, but what do you do if you don't want to do that? I feel like in near-future Sonrieth it might flat out make more sense to like... Have a little lab that you can grow meat in. Like, okay, in my lore, one of my dragons is a stem cell scientist who uses spare eggs to grow replacement organs for other dragons. I haven't written said lore yet, but yeah, no, her work is basically like, "what do we do if someone needs a kidney transplant and they're on Sonrieth Mars." And we've grown human organs on mice, despite such having obvious ethical issues within both the scholarly community and (naturally) the general public. So I think it's not unreasonable to say that dragons could grow meat/seafood from extra eggs.

Where to extra eggs come from? Well, I mean, depends whether or not you have fertilized eggs lying around, which... Implies that dragons are getting up to some... interesting bullshit in interplanetary missions. Bullshit which, if you're a NASA astronaut, is straight up illegal. But hey, Sonrieth, right?

Seafood in particular presents an interesting challenge, because naturally-growing seafood would be flat out a pain in the dick, because water is HEAVY. And amphibious creatures on Sonrieth are sometimes classified as meat anyways, so it might be too much of a pain in the dick. Sorry, ridgebacks, eat your fucking ration bar and move on.

I guess it would make sense, though, if you're establishing a long-term colony, to have habitats to grow seafood and livestock in, but... it seems like overkill.

Idk, it's late, and frankly, I need to read more about sustainable food in irl space missions before I continue with this. What are yalls' thoughts?

Thank the survivor gods I am on a tribe of 9 now! Whew. Four was way too small for me. I'm so glad I'm still with Melissa. Will and Eliza have both started talking to me already so there's promise there. I'm not too concerned about this reward but we'll see what happens.

So, surprise! There was a tribe swap! To be completely honest, I kind of saw it coming, since two people left the first round. I'm really glad that out of everyone on Candor, I have Jill on the Four Tribe. Peter is never here, and I wasn't comfortable with Payton because I am almost 100% it's actually Jaiden, and I want nothing to do with him. Anyway, we get to Four, and Jill and I agree to stick together. Will we hold true to that? Who knows, honestly. I really like Melissa from Abnegation. And I like Kyle and Will, both from Amity. I feel like if I talk to Jill about it, we could have a solid 5 with those I mentioned. I just don't want to come off too strong or aggressive. Now that we are on a tribe of 9 instead of 4, it gives us a bit of room to work. I'm trying really hard to balance between making myself seem like a leader and making myself irreplaceable to my tribe. Leaders are more often than not voted out right away, but if I can show that I am good enough at challenges to keep us away from tribal, I'll be someone my tribe can't afford to vote out, if that makes sense. My goal for this game, as it has been the last 5 games I've played, is to just get to jury. If I can get there, then I will feel satisfied with my gameplay. I mean, winning would be great, don't get me wrong. I've played 5 games, won 2, and still never been on a jury. I just don't want to do worse than Malaysia.. Anyway, this is already a long confessional. So I will wrap up saying that I think we will win this reward challenge. Peter being on the Six Tribe has given them a real disadvantage, because he's never around and they need him to start. Hopefully the next confessional I make will be about idol hunting!

Desperate times call for desperate measures. I've set up a spreadsheet that keeps all my thoughts organized and keeps all of the happenings of the game and my approach on things in one place. I don't know how long this will go on for, but I think it's nice to have handy for now.

I'd like to think Ed and I got pretty close during our Amity days and if we both end up on the same tribe together he hasn't forgotten about me. Will's cool too but he's gone MIA for a bit so I don't see myself as close to him.

I can see a divide occurring in the tribe if we happen to lose an immunity, which is why it's so important to try to connect with Otto ASAP. He's going to end up being the swing, and if that is the case, he needs to swing to my side. I'll pm him first thing tomorrow and see if I can at least start to establish a connection with him.

Tribal council tonight should go as expected. Carolanne has been here the least amount of time, so off she goes. I considered making a small move and keeping her with my Abnegation idol, but I'm not about to put a random target on my back to keep some freak who'll probably just end up self voting tonight.

If I had things going my way, it would be Payton going home tonight. She's just so irritating sometimes and I know exactly who she is, and she's beginning to play super hard too soon in the game. I almost feel like she isn't the person that I think I know, because she is legit just so frustrating. Payton has all these whimsical stories to tell about herself, like how she's pregnant and other family life stories and it all sounds like the person that I truly know, but she comes off so... fake... at the same time. I'm worried.

I can't make a long confessional for this round because I procrastinated super bad so I promise to make a good one later after tribal, assuming that I'm still here :)

I'll do a bigger confessional tomorrow when I'm not sleep deprived due to the current challenge. But just to check in real quick. I formed an alliance with Kyle and Melissa. I really like them, and so far, us three are the most active on the tribe. Hopefully we can pull this challenge out and avoid tribal, but if not, I feel like I will be okay. I could just pull in Jill and Kyle can pull in the other Amity, Will, and then we have 5. But, Kyle brings up a good point about not keeping people who didnt help, which, currently, Jill and Will both fall in that category. I'm too tired to figure this out right now, but hopefully we can win this.

I'm in the Ugly Fruti alliance. I'm really in an alliance named by capitalizing on the misfortunes of others. That is a thing. That is happening. In my life. Right now. Someone PLEASE tell me I actually like these assholes in real life because they're my favorites right now.

Well.... We were down for this challenge by a lot, then my tribe FINALLY woke up and they have quicker reflexes than me, so they got us almost caught up. Then Jenna posts a task about getting an idol clue and I hop on that right quick in my host chat, but I didn't READ THE ENTIRE TASK that says if I take the clue, I lose my tribe 50 points and OF COURSE my reflexes suddenly decide to wake up for this one. UGH. Now we are 65 points behind and I'm just so mad at myself. The only good thing is that nobody knows that I got this advantage, and I don't plan on telling them. I'm really hoping that there are some big points coming up so I can try to make these 50 points up. Ugh, I actually feel really bad. But hopefully I can get the idol out of it.

I promise to back up and make a proper confessional after results are posted, but I just want to say, if anyone on Four took that last deal and gave up all of our points, I am seriously going to fight someone. I mean, I know I gave up 50 points, but first of all, we made that back up, and second, I didn't know that it would lose me points to take the clue. Confessional #5 Six Day 9

I don't think I made one of these in a week??? Yikes.

So Abnegation won immunity and I was happy. I haven't gotten that close to them, I was sort of inactive, everyone was in my opinion.

We swapped afterwards, I'm on SIx tribe now. It's cool, I like the people. We work together well, but the other tribe, wooh, they're good. We lost both reward and immunity. Sad, but we'll get over it.

However, we lost immunity cause someone was selfish and got an advantage. That's scary, I don't know who or what it is. It's stupid to do, they sabotaged the tribe. This early, it's not smart.

I'm sad, Carolanne is the person leaving, hopefully. She's been really inactive, but she's someone that I feel I could personally use to help the both of us. I'll rather it be her than me, and I hope nobody's lying to me. I'm personally worried that people may believe that I got the advantage. I don't have it. I'm just trying to survive until the merge.

Okay so far I really like Eliza. I am sure I have said this numerous times at this point. During the task challenge I got an advantage of being able to cast an extra vote. I was PUMPED about this, and after it happened and there was a score update, Eliza messaged me and asked if I got the advantage from the where's waldo challenge and i immediately told her yes. I started to hesitate and wasnt sure if this was a good or bad thing so I lied about what the advantage was. So instead of being able to cast an extra vote I told her that I got the ability to look at someone else's vote before tribal. Gotta see if she is fully trustworthy later on. But for now she is the one i trust the most until proven otherwise. A tribal council will show a lot. But i also hope to not go to one just yet

I HATE THIS. I hate having conversations with people. I try and not share too much similar information about myself that I may say on my regular skype account to anyone to make sure people don't think that Jill is me, but also I am not that creative. Then on the flip side, I don't know how creative these people are. Payton definitely had decent skills at supporting the background and really diving into the character. I cannot bring myself to do this that intensely. Every conversation I have I go through a struggle of wanting to ask questions and learn about someone but then realizing everything they are saying could just be a lie and not be real so I don't know if it is worth my time to keep up with the charade. I don't know how people catfish online for years. It must get tiring and requires a lot of effort. I would be so afraid of a plot-hole I would not be able to do it. Thank god this game is only like a month and a half
