My boyfriend brought me a candy bar after work but I just woke up, and I have to wait about an hour after waking to eat (due to medication) and I'm just sitting here like frothing at the mouth shaking sweating trying so hard not to just rip that shit open

white, milk or dark chocolate and elaborate
Yall boutta fight meeeee
I cannot STAAAND bitter shit in the slightest, I can barely stand dark chocolate bc the aftertaste kills me, IDC if I'm seen as childish I don't like that being near my mouth EVER
Milk Chocolate is a great medium between sweet and not too sweet. The aftertaste is amazing and I love damn near everything abt it, GODDDD I want some rn
But as I said, Milk Chocolate is a great medium between sweet and not sweet, and I'm a sweet tooth to the MAX I LOOOOOVE A good white chocolate bar whenever I can get one, whether its the cookies n creme Hershey or white chocolate KitKat, all the sugar is js exhilerating I js wanna scrape the residue from my mouth and eat THAT. I don't make a habit of eating it often bc its completely unhealthy compared to the other two but that once in a while trip to get some is some of the best trips ever🤤
Istg they need to make a purely white chocolate bar for us commoners I'm tired of it js being an add in with other stuff. Make a white chocolate crunch bar or a purely white chocolate Hershey with no cookies 🤤🤤🤤
Of course I still eat Milk chocolate the most by a mile

White chocolate has flavor and deserves better.
Because the big reason many think of white chocolate mainly as 'white waxy stuff that ideally happens to other people,' especially in the US, is because the mainstream chocolate industry has essentially lied to us about what white chocolate is. For years.
Like okay, most likely in the US if you've had white chocolate on its own, you're thinking of a Hershey Cookies 'n' Creme bar.
I wrote 'creme' there, not 'cream' - that's not a typo, that's the real name. Because it contains no cocoa butter. As in, here are the ingredients:
Sugar
Vegetable Oil (Palm Oil, Shea Oil, Sunflower Oil, Palm Kernel Oil, Safflower Oil)
Skim Milk
Corn Syrup Solids
Enriched Wheat Flour (Flour, Niacin, Ferrous Sulfate, Thiamin Mononitrate, Riboflavin, Folic Acid)
Lactose
Contains 2% or Less of:
Cocoa Processed With Alkali
Whey
Lecithin
High Fructose Corn Syrup
Chocolate
Baking Soda
Salt
Natural Flavor
Artificial Flavor
PGPR
It can't even legally call itself white chocolate. It's a creme bar, or a 'white' bar, but not a white chocolate bar.
And it's not just Hershey. If you look around the fine print in grocery stores you'll see a lot of 'white' or 'creme' or 'candy' products, but not much in the way of 'white chocolate.'
In contrast, here are the ingredients for a bean to bar white chocolate bar, Pump Street 44% Hacienda Limon: cocoa butter, cane sugar, milk powder. And that 44% means it's 44% cocoa butter.
What's even more offensive is that cocoa butter, like the cocoa beans it's pressed from, has flavor. Sure it's mainly creamy, but it's like how quality butter from happy grass fed cows has more depth of flavor compared to the cheaper stuff. Which is why brands like Pump Street make single origin cocoa butters, because they can show off that flavor.
So yeah, if you can try bean to bar or craft white chocolate, please do? You might be pleasantly surprised.

Generated ice cream flavors: now it’s my turn
Last week, I featured new ice cream flavors generated by Ms. Johnson’s coding classes at Kealing Middle School in Austin, Texas. Their flavors were good - much better than mine, in fact. In part, this was because they had collected a much larger dataset than I had, and in part this was because they hadn’t accidentally mixed the dataset with metal bands.
Tumblr media
(the three at the bottom were mine)
But not only are Ms. Johnson’s coding class adept with textgenrnn, they’re also generous - and they kindly gave me their dataset of 1,600 ice cream flavors. They wanted to see what I would come up with.
So, I fired up char-rnn, a neural network framework I’ve used for a lot of my text-generating experiments - one that starts from scratch each time, with no memory of its previous dataset. There was no chance of getting metal band names in my ice cream this time.
But even so, I ended up with some rather edgy-sounding flavors. There was a flavor in the input dataset called Death by Chocolate, and I blame blood oranges for some of the rest, but “nose” was nowhere in the input, candied or otherwise. Nor was “turd”, for that matter. Ice cream places are getting edgy these days, but not THAT edgy.
Bloodie Chunk Death Bean Goat Cookie Peanut Bat Bubblegum Cheesecake Rawe Blueberry Fist Candied Nose Creme die Mucki Ant Cone Apple Pistachio  mouth Chocolate Moose Mange Dime Oil Live Cookie Bubblegum Chocolate Basil Aspresso Lime Pig Beet Bats Blood Sundae Elterfhawe Monkey But Kaharon Chocolate Mouse Gun Gu Creamie Turd
Tumblr media
Not all the flavors were awful, though. The neural network actually did a decent job of coming up with trendy-sounding ice cream flavors. I haven’t seen these before, but I wouldn’t be entirely surprised if I did someday.

These next flavors seem unlikely, however.

For the heck of it, I also used textgenrnn to generate some more ice creams mixed with metal bands, this time on purpose.

Coconut Oil Is Key to These 18 Dessert Recipes
[Photographs: Vicky Wasik]
At a recent stop on my book tour, someone asked if I had any "pet" ingredients that the average baker may not have on hand. In the heat of the moment, all I could think of was malted milk powder, what I call the "umami bomb" of dessert. As handy as malted milk powder can be when it comes to layering a toasty/malty flavor into desserts, the secret workhorse of my kitchen is undoubtedly coconut oil.
Like any oil, it's a pure fat, but what sets coconut oil apart is that it's solid but creamy at room temperature (well, when "room temperature" falls between 70°F and 74°F). That means it behaves more like butter or shortening in baked goods, creaming up light and fluffy when beaten with sugar.
Coconut oil melts quickly on the tongue due to a melting point well below body temperature, so it doesn't feel greasy like shortening or cold butter. Refined coconut oils like LouAna or Nutiva are absolutely neutral, with no taste or aroma whatsoever, while virgin coconut oil can have flavor that ranges from mild to intense depending on the brand (Coco Vita is my favorite when it comes to coconuttiness).
These properties allow coconut oil to wear a number of hats in the kitchen, functioning like shortening in snickerdoodles, like fry oil with doughnuts, like butter in scones, like liquid oil in banana bread. While this is by no means a complete list of desserts where coconut oil comes in handy, these recipes go a long way in demonstrating the scope of its utility.
Oil's a common ingredient in quick breads, but switching from liquid oils such as canola to solid coconut oil gives my banana bread a lingering richness that's hard to beat. To use coconut oil as a replacement for liquid oil in other quick breads, all you have to do is melt it down. As the coconut oil cools, you may notice the batter is thicker than usual, but this won't cause any ill effects (in fact, it will encourage the quick bread to crown in the oven, a rather beautiful touch).

Because refined coconut oil is odorless, flavorless, and solid at room temperature, with a shelf-life of more than a year, it's the perfect foundation for homemade brownie mix. Keep a jar on the shelf, and when you're ready to bake simply add eggs, water, and vanilla. The results are as chewy as any store bought brownie, and just as glossy, but with the deep, complex flavor of top notch Dutch cocoa and dark chocolate.

Thanks to its neutral flavor, refined coconut oil makes a fantastic replacement for butter in recipes, as in this recipe for lemon blueberry scones. By taming down the toasty, brown butter flavor scones usually develop as they bake, coconut oil puts the spotlight on the the bright flavor of fresh fruit while producing a scone that's even more rich and tender.
Coconut oil has a slightly lower melting point than butter, so when using it as a replacement in your favorite recipes, it may help to refrigerate the dough after shaping it into a wheel. Once it firms up, slice and bake as directed.

As in fresh fruit scones, coconut oil limits browning in rolled sugar cookies. Not only does this keep the cookies pale—snowflakes stay snowy white—but coconut oil enriches the cookies and extends their shelf life beyond those made from butter alone.
Of course, sugar cookies should taste like butter, so I use a roughly 50/50 blend for the best of both worlds. Trading a bit of butter for coconut oil is a great way to help your favorite cookies last a little longer, which is especially useful for shipping holiday care packages.

Refined coconut oil is an essential ingredient in these homemade Wheat Thins, where its neutral flavor lets the taste of whole grains and barley malt really shine—these distinctive little crackers brown too deeply when made with butter, giving them a dark and nutty sort of character.

If you never make doughnuts because you're turned off by that notorious fried food smell, frying with refined coconut oil's gonna rock your world. Compared to most liquid fry oils, refined coconut oil contains fewer volatile organic compounds, giving it a cleaner aroma and flavor. When I fried up these DIY Donettes in our tiny office last year, no one even realized I was in the kitchen.
Aside from giving you the ability to stealth-fry at home, refined coconut oil returns to its solid state at room temperature, which gives fried foods a lighter, crisper texture once they cool, so fried foods taste less greasy, whether you're making fish and chips or cannoli. While the same could be said of any solid fat, alternatives like lard and palm oil can be difficult to source in bulk for many folks, whereas refined coconut oil can be purchased by the gallon from warehouse clubs like Costco and Sam's, or online (by the gallon, Nutiva coconut oil is just 14 cents per ounce).

Due to its size and density, pound cake takes ages to bake, so adding a bit of refined coconut oil can help keep it from drying out after a long stint in the oven; better yet, the added fat from coconut oil improves the shelf life of the finished product as well. Coconut oil's a key player in my own sour cream pound cake, but it's a trick you can make use of in your own favorite recipes. Next time you make a pound cake, try replacing 25% of the butter with coconut oil for an extra dose of richness.

Copycat recipes are a great place to make use of refined coconut oil, where its richness and neutral flavor help baked goods better mimic their store bought counterparts. Beyond that, refined coconut oil is a great tool for developing vegan variations of your favorite commercial snacks, such as chocolate digestive biscuits. Even my Homemade Oreos can be veganized on the fly with an equal weight of coconut oil in place of butter.

I love refined coconut oil for its neutrality for the most part, but the flavor and aroma of virgin coconut oil can be used to strategic effect. My coconut layer cake and creamy coconut frosting are based on my vanilla butter cake and Swiss buttercream, with virgin coconut oil standing in for a portion of the butter (among other tweaks). Aside from lending its signature flavor, coconut oil improves the shelf life of the frosted cake with its added richness.

As in my lemon blueberry scones, coconut oil's neutral flavor keeps the lemon flavor of my ginger lemon creme filling bright and fresh. Since coconut oil is solid at room temperature and free from water, it also keeps the powdered sugar filling thick and sturdy so it doesn't go squishing out with every bite. If you'd like to take advantage of that fact with your own favorite sandwich cookies, try using refined coconut oil instead of butter in the filling (or virgin coconut oil if you'd like to add a hint of flavor).

Since refined coconut oil melts at a relatively low temperature, about 75°F, it's the perfect foundation for making creamy, spreadable speculoos cookie butter at home. Blended with a thick paste made from dissolved cookie crumbs, it makes a fun alternative to peanut butter in no-bake applications.

Refined coconut oil is the key to our shelf-stable pancake mix, which can sit on the shelf for months on end. Because the oil is added up front, the mix itself couldn't be easier; when you're ready for breakfast, the batter is ready to go as soon as you stir in a splash of milk and an egg.
Homemade Pancake Mix »

In this recipe, coconut oil stands in for 50% of the butter in what amounts to a basic sugar cookie dough. That cuts back on the toasty brown butter notes that cookies develop as they bake, giving the finished product a clean vanilla flavor that contrasts beautifully with the bold, bitter flavor of crumbled Oreos (whether store bought or homemade) for a cookies and cream-themed cookie.
Cookies 'n' Cream Cookies Recipe »

Like butter, coconut oil can be creamed with sugar until fluffy and light, so it's my go-to choice for vegan-izing chocolate chip cookies. To make up for refined coconut oil's lack of flavor, I spike the dough with dry malt extract to evoke the same nutty, toasted notes that butter develops as it browns in a traditional dough. So while these chocolate chip cookies may be vegan, they sure don't taste like it.

On its own, pure chocolate seems waxy when frozen because eating ice cream or gelato will chill our tongues down, making it difficult for the chocolate to warm and melt. As a result, long after the ice cream has melted away, the chocolate itself will linger in our mouths as a cold, unmelting lump. These problems disappear with a spoonful of refined coconut oil, a flavorless, odorless addition that lowers the chocolate's melting point, for stracciatella gelato with crisp and snappy chips that melt-in-your-mouth.

As with the chocolate shards in stracciatella, refined coconut oil gives the outer shell of homemade Klondike Bars a satisfying snap. To keep that coating whisper thin and delicate, the ratio of coconut oil is bumped all the way to 50% of the chocolate by weight. That proportion creates a chocolate coating that's runny and thin while warm, making the ice cream bars easy to dip, and beautifully glossy once set.

To help the freeze-dried strawberry and crispy rice coating stick, these berries 'n cream ice cream bars are dipped in white chocolate cut with refined coconut oil. As with our homemade Klondike bars, coconut oil serves to keep the white chocolate shell snappy and thin, so as not to detract from the crispy, colorful, and fruity outer layer of an old-fashioned strawberry shortcake bar.

A little coconut oil helps enrich our banana granola while keeping it crisp and dry. Use refined coconut oil for a neutral flavor, or let the flavor and aroma of virgin coconut oil elevate banana's tropical vibe.

Yogurtland, 468 N Lone Hill Ave, San Dimas, CA 91773
Tumblr media
Fro-yo girl here. This Yogurtland is in a strip mall across from Costco. It opened in 2014 and the interior looked well-maintained and clean. I checked the Yogurtland flavor finder a few times and this location doesn’t seem to update its flavor selection. The service wasn’t friendly but it wasn’t hostile either – it was indifferent. Sample cups were not offered but were given when I asked.
While they used to carry 16 self-serve froyo flavors a day, the new drinks reduce the number of froyo/soft serve offerings by two. The drinks, cold brew frappe and vanilla milkshake, are self-serve and you can add all the toppings you want for $2.99. The toppings counter was clean and included fruit purees, condensed milk, chocolate shell, fresh fruit, cheesecake, cookie dough, brownies, candies, popping boba, sprinkles, nuts, cookies, mochi, etc. I’m currently loving the peanut butter chips and Hershey’s Cookies N Creme snack mix (available for a limited time). At 47 cents an ounce, it’s cheaper than most YL locations that I’ve been to in the area (average YL price is currently 49 cents an ounce).
Flavors of the day:
Vanilla milkshake (drink)
Cold brew frappe (drink)
Chocolate toffee bar made with Heath: good, creamy, mellow toffee flavor combined with smooth chocolate
Pina colada
Fresh strawberry
Cheesecake
Cookies & cream: nice, mild, not too chocolatey, creamy
Peanut butter cup made w/ Reese’s PB cups: It’s a nice balance between chocolate and pb, creamy, not crazy sweet
Raspberry white chocolate
Birthday cupcake batter
Chocolate ice cream
Vanilla ice cream: sweeter, richer, mild
Rocket pop sorbet
Pecans & praline
Original tart
Dragon passion tart
The interior looks like most Yogurtland locations: white and green tiled wall with froyo machines, green, white and pink walls, restroom, indoor and outdoor seating, etc. Take it to go to avoid paying sales tax. Join Real Rewards to earn free froyo.
You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Nutritionists Rank America’s Favorite Candy Bars
This post was originally published on this site
Sure, fancy chocolate is great and dark chocolate contains beneficial minerals and antioxidants, but there’s something so wonderfully nostalgic about a drugstore candy bar.
There’s nothing wrong with occasionally enjoying a treat just because it’s sweet. Even registered dietitians agree. Meredith Price, founder of Priceless Nutrition & Wellness, told HuffPost, “I am a self-proclaimed chocoholic and absolutely believe there is room in a healthy diet for chocolate and other sweets. I’d prefer to choose healthier options like dark chocolate. However, if someone enjoys a Snickers bar every now and then, that is 100 percent OK.”
Price added that the important thing is to focus on incorporating beneficial foods into your diet (fruits, vegetables, whole grains, etc.) rather than getting caught up in which foods to limit.
But back to chocolate: Do the peanuts in a Snickers bar somewhat make up for the 25 grams of added sugar (a whopping 50 percent of your recommended daily value)? Do the almonds and coconut in an Almond Joy offer significant nutritional value? Is there a “healthier” candy bar that stands above the rest of America’s favorites?
We asked three nutritionists to rank the nation’s most popular candy bars (according to retail sales data from IRI, a Chicago-based market research firm) from healthiest to least healthy. They each came up with their own drastically different guidelines.
These were the 10 top-selling candy bars in the U.S. last year (in the category of chocolate candy box/bag/bar less than 3.5 ounces):
Snickers
Hershey’s Milk Chocolate Bar
Kit Kat
Twix
3 Musketeers
Hershey’s Cookies ‘n’ Creme
Reese’s Sticks
Almond Joy
Milky Way
Hershey’s Gold
Meredith Price’s Ranking
Snickers
Price ranked the candy bars based on saturated fat and sugar content, and those with trans fats automatically went to the bottom of her list.
She noted that calories weren’t a consideration as the bars all fell within the same range (210 to 250 calories). But trans fats, or partially hydrogenated oils, were a red flag. Trans fats “should be completely avoided in the diet due to their ability to increase risk of heart disease,” she said.
“To choose the healthiest candy bar, you want one with the least amount of sugar and saturated fat and absolutely no trans fats,” Price said. “If you were to choose any candy bar [including those not on this list], the best option is to go for a dark chocolate version as they tend to have less sugar and even some beneficial properties like antioxidants and trace minerals.”
Price’s ranking (with links to the nutrition facts for each bar):
Snickers, the “healthiest” option, has the lowest amount of saturated fat (23 percent) in the group, according to Price. “It is a bit higher in sugar than most of the others,” she added. “Therefore, if you’re enjoying a Snickers bar, try to have this be your one sweet treat of the day.”
Twix came in second for its moderate saturated fat (30 percent) and sugar (22 grams) content.
The bottom three bars on Price’s list all have trans fats, which outweighed the fact that Reese’s Sticks have the lowest sugar content (18 grams) of the bunch. The worst of the lot, 3 Musketeers, has both trans fats and the highest amount of sugar (36 grams). “That’s a whopping 9 teaspoons of sugar in one candy bar, which is higher than the American Heart Association’s upper recommendation of daily sugar intake,” Price said.
Natalie Rizzo’s Ranking
Hershey’s
Rizzo, a registered dietitian and author of The No-Brainer Nutrition Guide for Every Runner, looked for recognizable ingredients.
While she didn’t consider any of the candy bars to be healthy, she said she favored those with “some sort of healthy ingredients, like nuts or chocolate, as the first ingredients on the list.” Among bars with similar ingredients, the one with less sugar won out, and candy bars containing unrecognizable ingredients went to the bottom of the list.
On the group as a whole, Rizzo said, “They are all an indulgence to have once in a while. I suggest opting for the one that satisfies your sweet tooth, since they all have very similar nutrition facts.”
Rizzo’s ranking:
Hershey’s Milk Chocolate Bar
Reese’s Sticks
Snickers
Twix
Milky Way
3 Musketeers
Almond Joy
Kit Kat
Hershey’s Gold
Hershey’s Cookies ‘n’ Creme
Her top pick, Hershey’s Milk Chocolate Bar, “has the most pure ingredients, made from just milk chocolate without many additives.” Reese’s Sticks, which were at the bottom of Price’s ranking because of trans fats, top Rizzo’s list because milk chocolate and peanuts lead their ingredients. Rizzo also pointed out that Reese’s Sticks have less sugar than the others and 4 grams of protein.
The other Hershey’s bars didn’t fare as well in her ranking, with the Gold and Cookies ‘n’ Creme bars coming in at the bottom of the list. Rizzo described Hershey’s Gold as a “sugar-forward bar made with other additives like vegetable oil” and its “only redeeming quality” being the peanuts. Sugar is also the first ingredient in Hershey’s Cookies ‘n’ Creme, and Rizzo noted that she didn’t recognize most of the other ingredients.
Jonathan Valdez’s Ranking
Reese’s
Valdez, owner of Genki Nutrition and media spokesperson for the New York State Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, took note of serving size, saturated fat, trans fat, sodium and calories.
“If there is more than 20 percent of your daily value of these nutrients per serving, that raises a flag in terms of health impacts,” Valdez said. “It is also important to look at the fiber, protein and mineral content.”
Valdez’s ranking:
Reese’s Sticks
Kit Kat
Hershey’s Cookies ‘n’ Creme
Hershey’s Gold
Almond Joy
Hershey’s Milk Chocolate Bar
3 Musketeers
Milky Way
Snickers
Twix
He put Reese’s Sticks at the top of his list in part because, “compared to the other bars, this has the lowest amount of saturated fat,” Valdez said. Kit Kat, in second place, has “higher traces of vitamin D, iron, calcium and potassium” compared to Reese’s Sticks and a relatively lower fat content compared to the others.
Snickers just avoided the last slot because it has less saturated fat than Twix, which Valdez deemed “the worst candy of the choices.”
The lack of consensus among the three experts, who valiantly scraped to find redeeming nutritional qualities, indicates that there isn’t a truly healthy option here. But then you already knew that about candy bars.
“Everything in moderation,” Valdez said. “Ultimately, if it doesn’t exceed your caloric needs, it will not lead to weight gain. [But] eat too much of these treats, and they can replace other nutritional foods such as fruits, dairy and lean proteins.”
In short, if you choose to indulge, you could just pick the one you like best.
