Cal Routs Stanford in Battle of The Bay
Bears Hit Program-Record 18 Triples
Win By Third Largest Margin In Series History
BERKELEY – The California women's basketball knocked down a program-record 18 3-pointers, but none were bigger than Marta Suárez's buzzer beater from near midcourt to end the third quarter, in the 83-63 win over Stanford at Haas Pavilion on Friday night. Lulu Twidale tied her career-high with six from beyond the arc and the Golden Bears (10-1, 1-0 ACC) dominated the Cardinal (7-3, 0-1 ACC). The 20-point margin of victory was the third largest in the rivals' long history.   Three Bears had 20-point games in Suárez (21), Twidale (20) and Ioanna Krimili (20). The trio accounted for six of Cal's eight 3-pointers in the third quarter alone. Michelle Onyiah tied her career high with five blocks while Twidale set a career high with seven rebounds, joining Onyiah and Suárez who also pulled down seven boards. The Bears tied their season high with 20 assists on 32 made field goals. Cal held Stanford to a season-low 33.9% from the field.   Suárez converted a 3-point play to give the Bears an early 5-0 lead and hit a triple on Cal's next possession to cap an 8-0 run in the first quarter. The Bears held the Cardinal to just one field goal through the first five minutes of the quarter. Cal went on a three-minute scoring drought until Kayla Williams hit a jumper to put the Bears up 12-7 with under three minutes to go. Both teams managed just one field goal over the last two minutes of the quarter and Cal took a 14-12 lead going into the second.   Twidale grabbed a rebound off a Stanford miss and took it coast to coast to open the second quarter. She followed up with her first triple of the game on Cal's next possession to put the Bears up 19-14. After the 8:58 mark, Cal went on a scoring drought over the next four minutes while Stanford turned it over four times over that span, but the Bears still held the advantage at 19-16 with just under five minutes to go in the quarter. Twidale knocked down her second triple of the game after the media timeout and Williams and Krimili followed up with consecutive 3-pointers on the next two possessions to fuel a 9-0 run over a 90-second span that put the Bears up 28-16 with just under three minutes to go.  After Cal went up 31-18 on Twidale's third 3-pointer, Stanford hit back-to-back triples to get to within seven points with under a minute left. Krimili was able to drive for a layup as time expired to give the Bears a 33-24 lead going into the break.   Twidale drilled consecutive 3-pointers followed by one from Suárez to open the third quarter and give Cal its biggest lead up to that point at 44-26. The Bears went on to hit five straight triples to increase their lead to 50-28 at the 6:21 mark. Suárez's buzzer beater at the end of the third put Cal up 63-40 going into the final frame. The Cardinal would not get closer than 17 points in the fourth.   "We came out and played Cal basketball and were sold defensively forcing them into tough shots," Cal head coach Charmin Smith said. "We talked about not having to be superhuman and just be the best versions of us and these two [Suárez and Twidale] had excellent performances knocking down shots and getting shots for each other. It was just good Cal basketball."

The Week Ahead: December 16-22, 2024
Lunar Phases
Wednesday, December 18, 22:30 UTC - Disseminating Moon, 12°30’ Leo
The key phrases for the Disseminating lunar phase are “teach, share, communicate;” and “ease up on efforts with our intentions.” We’re sharing in creative ways, maybe a little overly dramatic. Very performative vibes. Women remain pissed off.
Sunday, December 22, 22:18 UTC - Last Quarter Moon, 1°34’ Libra
The key phrases for the Last Quarter lunar phase are “turn away,” and “tear down old structures that no longer serve us well.” Some of those old structures may be the way we celebrate the holidays. There’s temptation to “gloss over” things we oughtn’t, for the sake of family harmony.
Void of Course Moon
Tuesday, December 17, 18:33 UTC (Cancer) - 23:39 UTC (Leo)
Friday, December 20, 05:19 UTC (Leo) - 07:37 UTC (Virgo)
Sunday, December 22, 13:27 UTC (Virgo) - 19:08 UTC (Libra)
Retrograde/Direct/Etc.
Pre-retrograde shadow: Juno/Scorpio (starting Sunday the 22nd)
Retrograde: Mars/Leo, Jupiter/Gemini, Chiron/Aries, Uranus/Taurus, Eris/Aries
Post-retrograde shadow: Mercury/Sagittarius, Saturn/Pisces
Transiting Mercury exits its Storm on Saturday, December 21, now moving faster than 40’ or arc per day. Until then, forward progress is minimal - it feels like we’re still struggling, even though we know we’re moving on.
Transiting Juno enters her pre-retrograde shadow on Sunday, December 22, 14:45 UTC, at 16°15’ Scorpio. Well, we’re in for it now - it’s about time - a lot of toxicity in/of/with relationships to sort through and purge.
Ingress
Saturday, December 21, 09:21 UTC - transiting Sun enters Capricorn
Aka the Capricorn Solstice - Merry Yule up here, Merry Litha down there! I think we have a general feeling that we’ve wept and howled long enough - it’s time to begin to plan for the future, not only the immediate reality but where we wish it to go.
Et Cetera
There are three Opportunity Periods this week:
Sunday, December 15, 19:21 UTC - Tuesday, December 17, 23:39 UTC. “With Mercury just turning direct, this is a good time for setting lofty goals and inspiration.”
Thursday, December 19, 20:04 UTC - Friday, December 20, 05:19 UTC. “Good for creativity and also healthy connections and relationships, aided by the Venus-Jupiter trine.”
Sunday, December 22, 22:18 UTC - Tuesday, December 24, 10:44 UTC. “This great OP ends with the Moon enclosed between benefics (Venus and Jupiter), forming a grand trine, which is awesome for everything joyous, just in time for the holidays.”
A different feel, as Mercury is direct but sluggish - and it’s now a waning Moon. We have the dreaded “Holidays” ahead of us, too; it’s finals time in schools and colleges. The “most wonderful time of the year,” my eye. There are rewards for hanging in there, though.
While the Moon is in Cancer (Sunday the 15th - Tuesday the 17th), use that Opportunity Period to come to terms with your feelings. How do you feel about “the holidays” this year, and what can/will you do about celebrating them or not?
While the Moon is in Leo (Tuesday the 17th to Friday the 20th), it’s a little bit of a respite with some partying, abetted by a trine between Venus/Aquarius and Jupiter Rx/Gemini. Great for socializing.
While the Moon is in Virgo (Friday the 20th to Sunday the 22nd), it’s time to roll up our sleeves and get to work. Probably lots of distractions - take a tip from a sexagenarian and write everything down as it occurs to you. Having plans B, C, and D, as well as Plan A, will be useful.
While the Moon is in Libra (Sunday the 22nd - Wednesday the 25th), we have another chiefly social time. It ends with a very long void Moon, from 09:44 UTC the 24th, to 08:06 UTC the 25th. Try to get everything done before this, so you can relax and chill out on Christmas Eve.

Chapter 14: Surprises
BRADLEY’S POV
“Holy shit!” Javy exclaimed with wide eyes, completely taken aback by the story I had just shared with him. The story of Friday night, sparing the excruciatingly romantic details.
Natasha’s eyes left mine to meet Javy’s, looking equally as impressed as him, but not as obvious, “Wait until Frasier hears about this!” she exclaimed, calling out the inevitable–Emmett was going to be filled in. And when he was, all hell would break loose with endless amounts of teasing and bullshit.
“So you lost her number, and then spent the past 24 hours in the hospital waiting for her?” Javy was retelling the story out loud so he could comprehend it better. He was still struggling to process all the developments that had occurred over the weekend.
“Yeah,” I answered. Short and casual.
“Geez” Natasha stated, eyes going wide and letting out a loud gust of air as she adjusted into the seat next to me.
Javy was sitting in front of us today, taking the turn to sit alone. That was our agreement for the seating arrangement since the tables only fit 2 students. We opted to take the front two tables on the right side of the lecture hall. Javy sat at the very front table and Natasha and I were directly behind him. Every time we had lecture, we would rotate. Tomorrow would be my turn to sit in the front. Thank God it wasn’t my turn today! I was dog shit tired!!!
Javy and I adjusted in our seats, as well as the rest of the class. The Naval Academy was very punctual. This class, Flight Training I, started right at 10:45, and if you were a split second late, you would be locked out of the hall. Someone in my Calculus I class was not even 10 seconds late and found himself struggling with the locked doorknob. Another student in class got up to let him in, and was stopped by the Captain that was instructing the course. The student that was late AND the student that tried to help both did 50 pushups on the field of the track after class. The rest of us had to watch at attention, heavily concentrating on our stance, we didn’t dare breathe out of place. No one has ever been late to anything on campus since then.
It was now 10:44 and our flight instructor was nowhere to be found. Everyone in class was looking at each other, waiting for someone to speak up.
I was about to pull out my phone and check my school email for possible cancellations when a white man, nearly bald, stormed into the room. He had a few strands of white hair resting on the bottom portion of his head. He was wearing the same service khakis as we were. However, his were decked out in ribbons and insignias, whereas we only had 1, the generic service ribbon that we got on the day we took our oath.
“Good morning midshipmen,” He said sternly, obviously not someone that cared about having a ‘polite’ reputation on campus. There was a pause in his voice as he reviewed the roster which was attached to a clipboard on his desk, “and women” he finished, noting the two women that were in our course. I looked over at Natasha, who scooted in her chair, bothered by the lack of respect taken towards her gender.
He dropped the clipboard down onto the desk, leaving a loud echo behind him as he leaned over the steel and into our eyes, “I honestly don’t give a shit about learning your names. Statistically speaking, 2 of you will fail out of the aviation program before you get to the finish line, 3 of you will die in action within the first two years, and another one of you will be a POW in the middle east before you’re 30, which means that only 1 of you will have what it takes to make it to Top Gun before retirement, and even then, nothing is guaranteed”.
A chill ran down my spine as this man spoke his last sentence. He never once made eye contact with me, instead looking in the opposite direction of the room, but it seemed as though he directed that statement unto me. I looked down at my notebook and blue pen, picking it up and twirling it through my fingers. Natasha noticed the change in my demeanor, and learned forward, a look of concern on her face. I didn’t want to explain this to her. Not now. Maybe not ever. So I just shook my head and kept my gaze down. Her gaze went back to the instructor as he finished his statement, “Let the bloodbath begin.”
Javy looked over his shoulder at the two of us, feeling completely uneasy. I could see the fear in my classmates' eyes as the realization that some of us in this room would be dead soon became a hard statistical fact. I continued to spin the pen around as he went on with his introduction, “I am Rear Admiral Thomas Campbell. You will call me Rear Admiral Campbell, not ‘hey you’, ‘teacher’, ‘mister’, or ‘Sir’, do I make myself clear?”
My eyes went completely wide with shock and fear as he announced his full name. Before then, I had completely tuned him out. The pen that was in my hand fell straight onto the paper, leaving a trail of ink as it went flat onto the surface. I could feel Natasha’s eyes on me and in my periphery, I could see that Javy was tense, his head half tilted to us, but still keeping his eyes forward.
“The only exception to my name is to call me by my call sign, “Panther” when we are in the air. During your first year, you will spend a total of 80 hours in our simulation room and 20 hours in the air, flying our cessnas. You have all been grouped based on ability and performance on your pre-assessment taken last week. Three of you will be with me, two of you will be with Justin Fulterski, call-sign “String Bean”, and the last two will be with my daughter, Allie Campbell, call-sign “Baby”. Both of whom are adjunct instructors with their pilots license. They are not active duty soldiers, so you do not salute them”.
The doors opened and Justin, followed by Allie, came into the room, wearing the green flying suits that we will eventually wear in the air. Now Javy was completely turned, looking right at me. Natasha was covered in shock, but trying hard to hold onto her poker face, a face that won a poker tournament this weekend. However, she did steal some glances my way every few seconds. A few other classmates had their eyes glued to me while the remainder were still focused on Admiral Campbell’s speech.
I kept my eyes down, grabbing my aviators and pulling them over my eyes, avoiding all eye contact from the front of the room where Allie was now standing. I used the opportunity I had to steal a glance at her, knowing I was shielded by the dark tint of the glasses so she wouldn’t know I was looking.
Her eyes were right on me, her lips pursed and cheeks slightly pink with a sort of “gotcha” look on her face. She looked away a few seconds later and brought her gaze to her father. Her hair was tightly pulled up into a bun on the back of her head, the standard for women in the military.
Her father
Her father was my flight instructor, and not only that, he was an admiral for my branch of the armed forces! I brought my attention back to him, my head swimming too much to even be able to half-focus, but I tried. “And now for our flight assignments,” Admiral Campbell went on, grabbing a stack of folders. “I will be taking those with the least amount of flight experience, which is Ashton, Stellar, and Heights,” he said as he made eye contact with the two men and the woman who were called, slightly embarrassed at his candid reasoning. “Machado and Trace will go with Bean. Which leaves Ryans and Bradshaw with Baby”.
We both made eye contact with each other as her dad handed her over two files, obviously papers of me and my partner. I took off my aviators and looked at her, hard. I couldn’t decide what to think. On one hand, I was excited that I had her as an instructor, but on the other hand, I felt cheated. We spent almost 2 hours together on Friday and not once did she mention having a pilots license or being an instructor on campus for that matter. She must have seen the torn expression on my face, because when I looked up at her again, she looked quite insecure in her position. She was now avoiding eye contact with me completely.
Rear Admiral Campbell continued his speech, telling us that we would spend our first month in the simulation room before we get into the air. This new flight training program was designed to get Naval Aviators in the air before attending flight school, working with the harder military aircrafts. For the next three years, we would just be focused on the cessna’s and getting as many flight hours in as we could before our next step.
After the Naval Academy, we would all go to Rhode Island for Officer Training School. This was a requirement for anyone entering naval service. So Natasha, Javy, and Emmett would all be going along with me. Once we complete that course, Emmett would be separated from us, and the two others and I would go to Florida for the Air Indoctrination Course. Then there would be flight school, our final step to officially become an aviator for the U.S. Navy. We would either stay in Florida or go to Texas for that. The whole process was going to be long and tedious, but knowing that Allie was going to be one of my instructors for a small part of it, made it a little more fulfilling than it already was. Something a little more special.
I didn’t realize how lost in thought I was until Natasha nudged my shoulder. I quickly blinked and came out of it, seeing that all of my classmates were getting up and heading for the doors of the lecture hall. Natasha looked at me concerned and confused, but I just brushed it off, making my way to the doors. Allie and Justin were still standing in the front of the room, watching us as we left. I looked over my shoulder at her one last time, letting the frustration of this surprise show on my face, shaking my head at her as I went up the steps of the isles. She looked down, with an upset expression now on her face. Justin turned his head to her, but I didn’t catch anything else at that point. I was already out of the room by then.
I followed the crowd of my classmates as they walked down the halls, Natasha standing to my left and Javy to my right.
“What the fuuuuuuck,” Javy whispered.
“Shut up,” I snapped back, keeping my voice down so no one else caught on.
“I just can’t-” Javy went on, finding himself as speechless as Natasha and I already were, “Did you know about this?” He asked, looking over at Trace.
All she did in response was raise her eyebrows and shake her head, not knowing what to say at this moment.
Eventually the crowd we were following went outside and onto the tarmac, watching as upperclassmen were walking around the area, every one of them paired up and getting settled into their T-68 Texan II.
All of us watched in amazement at what was happening. They all had flight suits on, helmets, and a full team of managers helping on the ground.
“Calm down boys!” Admiral Campbell said to us. Natasha let out a loud breath. I looked over at her and saw in her eyes that her blood was boiling, obviously Admiral Campbell was not used to women being in this program. “You won’t be flying these babies until the beginning of your fourth year. Third if you’re lucky,” he went on, looking at me as he said this. I furrowed my eyebrows and looked over at Natasha who just raised her eyebrows a little bit and gave a slight nod, a soft smirk on her face. I never was one to stick out from the pack, so I didn’t really know how to handle this
and I didn’t really want to learn.
“Now ladies and gentlemen,” he started. It was nice to see him finally getting into the inclusion: “Enjoy the show.” He kept his stance tall as he turned around, his hand behind his back, holding his fingers together.
We watched as Justin and Allie emerged from a hanger, both of which were carrying their own helmets. His were various shades of green, with the words “string bean” written in yellow paint. Hers was white with ‘Baby’ painted in light blue cursive along the top.
Both of them quickly got into a Texan, strapping themselves in and communicating with the ground crew. They were signing things to each other, although I had no idea what they were saying. Eventually they stopped signing and the aircraft was turned, the backs now facing us. Admiral Campbell looked over at a grounds crew man that was standing by a radio. Campbell nodded at him and the Black crewman turned on a handheld radio that was sitting on a table.
“Texan 2 ready for taxi.” Justin said over the radio.
“Texan 3 ready for taxi.” Allie’s voice came through the radio.
“Texan 3, begin taxi first, face North,” another voice said. I looked up at the air traffic control tower that was right above us. The windows were completely tinted black with white stone covering the leg of the tower. Natasha and I stole a glance at each other, with a WTF expression on our face as the shock of this morning settled into a reality.
After a few minutes, Allie came on and said she was ready for departure. I looked over at the walkie and heard the same air traffic controller say, “Texan 3, you are clear for departure”.
“Copy, clear for departure.” Allie said. Within seconds, her aircraft roared to life and we watched as her plane sped down the runway and took off towards the Northern sky. Everyone turned their bodies as her jet moved past us, the sound  excruciatingly loud and wind intently smacking onto our bodies. “Holy shit!” a classmate yelled. No one else said anything, instead we watched in amazement as the jet circled around us in the sky.
Eventually, Justin was also up there, and we watched as the aircrafts moved, obviously showing off a well-rehearsed flight show. They spun, and spiraled, and circled each other, ending their show with a “fly by” right over the control tower. Everyone's eyes, including my own, were beaming.
I watched as Allie’s aircraft landed on the runway, coming to a halt and taxing over so Justin could land. Then they drove their aircraft back over to us and sat there as the grounds crew helped them with the proper procedure of getting out of their aircrafts. I glanced down at my watch and noticed that this whole thing lasted over an hour, although it only felt like 15 minutes.
Justin and Allie walked over to us, taking off their helmets and balancing them down on their hips, standing behind Admiral Campbell.
Campbell turned around, facing us now, we weren’t able to see his eyes anymore since they were shielded by his aviators: “I hope you all took something out of that,” he began, “They may not be naval aviators, but they are your flight instructors, and I trust that all of you learn something from them. I can tell you right now, they are without a doubt more skilled than any of you are, even the more experienced ones”. At this, Allie and I looked at each other. She gave a cocky smirk and brought her eyes back to her dad, but I kept my gaze on her. The breeze that was created by the other Texan’s that the fourth years were now flying kept hitting her, causing her hair to slowly come out of its tight bun, strands blowing around in the wind. Her blonde hair was even more prominent now against the green of the flight suit than they were against the deep red of her sweater last Friday. Shit! Her sweater. It was still sitting in the front seat of my new bronco. A car that he gave me as a gift for being admitted into the Naval Academy, which is a hilarious reasoning given the circumstances. I knew that this “gift” was really an unofficial way of him asking me to visit. But honestly, why would I? I had nothing to say to him, and God knows I would NEVER spend another Thanksgiving, Easter, or Christmas with him ever again! Never.
“And now, to the locker rooms,” Admiral Campbell said, “You have a present waiting for youïżœïżœ. He turned his body and began walking towards the doors that we came out of over an hour ago. Shit! I completely missed what he said, being lost in my own thoughts of him.
I watched as classmates passed me and made their ways to the doors, finding myself frozen. Frozen in a physical and mental sense. Allie passed me as well, which now left me in the back of the pack, watching everyone walk through the door. I used this as my opportunity to talk with her, since more and more witnesses were now indoors, especially her father.
I started walking and increased my pace to a light jog so I could catch up to her, which I did in a matter of seconds: “You could have told me,” I said calmly, but making it clear that my patience was rattled.
She looked over her shoulder at me and decreased her pace, “You never asked,” she said to me, dropping her head and looking at the ground as we made our way closer and closer to the door.
“Don’t pin this on me! I told you that I was in the aviation program here, and you never even thought ‘well hey! Maybe I should tell him that I’m his Goddamn flight instructor’”.
She froze at this, letting out a big “huff” as her body turned towards mine: “Look,” she said to me, putting on that same calm tone in her voice that she gave me the day I hurt my hand with that ‘rehearsed speech’ of hers, “If I would have known that I was your flight instructor, yes, I probably would have said something. But I didn’t know anything until this morning, and besides, it’s not like I could have given you a warning this morning in King Hall because you weren’t there. Instead, you were sitting around in the hospital, waiting for me”.
“How did you-” I started to ask, then froze as I assumed the answer to my own question, “You nurses really hear everything don’t you?”
She gave me a ‘no shit’ look and then turned her body, aiming towards the door, but I was able to grab onto her arm before she could move an inch. “Why didn’t you at least tell me about your dad?” I asked, still keeping a calmed tone in my voice. I have learned that the best way to get anywhere with her is if you kept your composure as best you could.
Whenever I got mad or frustrated, she would too. She always matched my energy, and I could tell that this hypothesis was correct because she immediately lost a bunch of tension in her body, relaxing a little as she looked down at my hand that was wrapped around her bicep. Her mouth was slightly open, and her breath increased a little. She looked at me with a gentle look in her eyes as she continued to breathe. She closed her mouth, and I noticed her eyes became a little hard, “Well,” she began, in her all too familiar sassy tone: “I would have had time to get to that, but I was underwater”. She shook off my arm and made her way to the door. Damn. Right when I thought I had her figured out.

7/4/13 - Rakaia glow
Clearly getting tired as the energy left at the end of the day for these write ups in diminishing but let’s give this another go. Waking up in my tent from a night of rain and wind, just over the saddle, I knew I had a big day ahead of me before hitting the road to hitch into Methven to finish a 6 day, two section, 150km combined excursion. Climbing down from the saddle through the valley was a similar story to that a couple days ago on the Two thumb track, cris-crossing the river down. This time the water was ice cold, and I had to get the feet wet 55 times. Yes I counted. Special mentions out to #44 the Lewis Hamilton speed trail down the river and #13 the unlucky for some slip up. Making it to Comys hut with bricks for feet, a hearty lunch of wrap, cheese, all the salami I had left and a generous serving of aioli as i let my socks dry briefly providing enough energy for the next 10* kms of trail. The first 5 proving comparatively ordinary, however still outstanding I was treated to what ill call the best Nobo highlight of the walk so far, hiking up over the 1,200m Turtons saddle, somewhat unexpectedly given I was rushing to the road, put quite simply as The Best view. The magnificent Rakaia river and surrounding valleys commanded my attention. I wish I could share pictures of its beauty, but after 6 days bush my phone had died, so this one will live on in my memory alone. A moment I’ll cherish and reminds me of how lucky I am to live and walk such a beautiful country. The view blessed me the whole way down for the next hour and a half as I raced to the road to try get the 4:30pm Friday rush hour to the pub in Methven for my next resupply. Turns out the road was as dead as they come. Figuring my luck wouldn’t improve any by staying still, I started walking in the right direction, hoping I would cross more farms and improve my chances as I dreamt of a pub meal and a cold handle of Speights. A dreamy sunset over the river and mountains with all colours from golden hour up in the ranges melting into cotton candy mountains in the distance. Not single car for 2.5 hours drove those spirits well down, with next to no food left, I was 5 minutes away from setting camp on the side of the road and getting the last of my coscos on the boil when, like I always tell myself; things worked out for me. Some hunters returning from a day up in the valleys pulled up on their way back to Chch. Making it to the aptly named brown pub, not to be confused with the neighbouring blue pub about 7:30 I did in fact get my loaded chicken schnitzel and fries, cold handle of speights and a room for the night in what felt like some old school western, staying at the town tavern as I passed through. This town felt about the right size for all of us truth me told.

https://www.reuters.com/world/uk/uk-elects-most-diverse-parliament-history-2024-07-05/
LONDON, July 5 (Reuters) - Britain's new Prime Minister Keir Starmer will oversee a parliament more ethnically diverse and more female than ever after securing a landslide victory in the election on Thursday that ended 14 years of Conservative rule.
Black, Asian and ethnic minority lawmakers will represent around 13%, opens new tab of the House of Commons, up from 10% in 2019, when Britain last held a parliamentary election.
It will be the largest-ever share of ethnic minority members of the lower house, according to an analysis by British Future, a think tank.
In the 44 years since outgoing Prime Minister Rishi Sunak was born, minority representation in Britain's parliament increased from zero to nearly one in seven lawmakers, British Future said.
But the share still does not fully reflect the diversity of the population and electorate. Around 18% of people in England and Wales come from a Black, Asian, mixed or ethnic minority background, according to official data.
"The 2024 election is a landmark for representation, with record diversity in our parliament, closer than ever to that of the electorate," Sunder Katwala, director of British Future, said.
"The irony that it coincides with the end of Rishi Sunak’s premiership as the UK’s first British Asian Prime Minister only underlines how ethnic diversity has become a new norm across the main political parties."
The incoming parliament will include a record 242 female lawmakers, 22 more than after the last election in 2019.
When Labour's Diane Abbott, Britain's first Black female lawmaker, entered parliament in 1987 there were just 41 women, opens new tab in the House of Commons.
Abbott, who was re-elected to the seat in northeast London which she has held for 37 years, will become the 'mother of the house' - an honorary title given to the longest-serving female minister.
While final results have yet to be announced, Labour triumphed in Thursday's parliamentary election, winning around 412 seats, representing a majority of 174.
Britain's new governing party will have by far the largest number of ethnic minority MPs -- 66 out of the 87 elected. But that diversity is unlikely to be reflected in its top cabinet when Starmer elects his front bench.
Shadow foreign affairs minister David Lammy, justice minister Shabana Mahmood and energy minister Ed Milliband are among ethnic minority ministers expected to be named in Starmer's top team. Thangam Debonnaire, who had been expected to join the top team, lost her seat.
The ousted Conservative Party has a stronger record for diversity when it comes to ministerial-level representation.
Addressing the nation outside No10 Downing Street on Friday in his final speech as prime ministers, Sunak said: "One of the most remarkable things about Britain is just how unremarkable it is that two generations after my grandparents came here with little, I could become prime minister."
Sunak was the country's first British-Indian leader and all three female prime ministers were Conservatives.
However, Labour's Rachel Reeves will be Britain's first female Chancellor of the Exchequer, or finance minister.

Confessions of a Recovering Genrephobe. 3/9/24
Hey Whores;
This was an incredible differcult week. Two days of only having two people in the kitchen. A absolutely monsterous friday night with 45 minute ticket times and just an absolute slog in general. are dishwasher is sick and its just been a bitch and half. I really need to fucking leave this job before it gets worse.
I'm spending my day off watching anime, (Komi Can't Communicate), instead of like doing my laundry.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You Forgot it in People (2002) - Broken Social Scene
Genre: Indie Rock, Pop Length: 56:11 (13 Tracks)
You Forgot It in People is the commercial breakthrough of indie rock collective Broken Social Scene. I know it personally do to the absolute indie pop banger Anthems for a Seventeen Year-Old Girl.
Because of its format there tends to be a variety of sound that comes from this album and much like the other BSS album I reviewed the sound is welcome but doesn't always perfectly jell for me.
I had a nice time with this but I definetly need to find a way of giving more intention to the listening experience.
3/5
Tumblr media
In the Court of the Crimson King (1969) - Crimsom King
Genre: Prog Rock, Art Rock Length: 43:54 (5 Tracks)
When I started this album I expected to listen to a fantastic if mundane classic rock album. Something along the lines of led zeppelen. And I got that. but i also got something else.
This work is atmospheric, playing these winding and lengthy insturmentals with sparse lyrics and I honestly wasn't expecting the jazz and classical influnces in it.
Listening back to the work it is meloncholic and eerie theres a lot of depth and texture to it. To the point that it almost steps outside my preconceived notions of rock as a genre.
This is a nice time and I definetly get why this album is considered a classic.
3/5 (should I just get rid of the rating?)
Tumblr media
Too Low For Zero (1983) - Elton John
Genre: Pop Rock Length: 44:23 (10 Tracks)
While there are obviously songs that I like by Elton John I've never acutally listened to him. Probably because I am extremly femphobic.
Tumblr media
(I love that movie so much.)
I'm joking. That being said considering that I described orville peck as "What Gay Lana del Ray would listen to if they didn't hate themselves" maybe theres some truth to the statement.
I don't know what to tell you babes. Theres a lot of artists that are such a defining voice of a generation that to say something sounds like them you know what it sounds like. You know what a madonna or elvis or taylor swift song sounds like. and you know what an elton john song sounds like.
It was nice enough but its ok if your mostly are just here for still standing then I understand that too.

Shortwave Radiogram, 2-6 November 2023: Digital modes that are the answer to communications blackouts
Thank you for your patience during last weekend's repeat broadcast, necessitated by some travel. Arabic text this weekend. The Israel Hamas war has resulted in a complete communications blackout (no internet or cell phones working) in Gaza. Residents of Gaza, and some international broadcasters, are rediscovering radio as a medium for essential information. The Shortwave Radiogram concept is that radio (shortwave or medium wave) can be used for text and images, thus partly filling in for the internet that becomes unavailable during times of war and other disasters.  One of the news items in this weekend's Shortwave Radiogram is about BBC Arabic resuming medium wave broadcasting to the Levant from Cyprus. Those MW transmissions had ended in 2019. Following the BBC news item is an excerpt of Arabic text from the BBC. This demonstrates that the BBC could transmit text and images from that Cyprus relay, in addition to its conventional voice broadcasts. If the Arabic text shows in your Fldigi receive pane as boxes, or something like that, copy those boxes and paste then into a word processor. The correct characters might appear.  They will look something like this, printing right-to-left ...

Elon Musk Says Twitter Deal Is 'Temporarily on Hold'
Tumblr media
Elon Musk, the world's richest man, said on Friday that his $44 billion deal to buy Twitter is "temporarily on hold" while he awaits more information about the number of fake accounts on the platform. Musk has previously expressed concerns about the number of bots on Twitter, and he has said that he wants to make sure that the platform is not being used to manipulate public opinion. In a tweet, Musk said that he is "still committed to the acquisition" but that he needs more information to "make an independent assessment of the prevalence of fake or spam accounts on the platform." Twitter has said that it estimates that false or spam accounts represent fewer than 5% of its daily active users. However, Musk has said that he believes the number is much higher. It is unclear what impact Musk's announcement will have on the Twitter deal. The deal is currently subject to regulatory approval, and it is possible that Musk could walk away from the deal if he is not satisfied with the information that Twitter provides. The news of the Twitter deal being put on hold sent Twitter's stock price down by more than 10% in after-hours trading. The deal between Musk and Twitter was announced in April, and it was expected to close later this year. However, the deal has been met with some resistance from Twitter's shareholders, who have raised concerns about Musk's ability to manage the company. It remains to be seen whether Musk will be able to get the information he needs from Twitter and whether the deal will be able to close. However, his announcement on Friday has certainly cast a cloud over the future of the social media platform. World adds 165 million more poor as debt consumes governments’ funds (Washington Post) A punishing series of economic shocks over the past three years drove 165 million people into poverty worldwide and left debt-swamped developing nations unable to afford adequate schooling, medicine and other social services, according to a report from the United Nations Development Program. Some of the world’s poorest countries borrowed heavily since 2020 to cope with the pandemic, soaring food and fuel bills caused by the war in Ukraine, the fastest inflation in four decades and higher interest rates. Now, dozens of governments—most in Africa and the Middle East—are spending more than twice as much of their revenue repaying debt as they do on social programs. About 3.3 billion people live in countries that spend more on interest payments to banks or official lenders than they devote to educating or caring for their citizens. “What this means is a government that can no longer pay its teachers; a government that can no longer employ doctors and nurses in hospitals; that cannot provide the medicines for rural health centers,” said Achim Steiner, UNDP administrator. “And this is what it translates into: less health care, less education, no social safety nets that are able to provide temporary relief for people who, through no fault of their own, find themselves in a situation where they literally cannot feed their family anymore.” Battered by repeat economic challenges, governments throughout the developing world find their financial resources exhausted. Unable to fund necessary social and economic programs, they risk sliding into disarray.
Bargain-hunting Uruguayans are flocking to Argentina as its peso slides (AP) On a recent cross-border shopping trip, four friends from Fray Bentos, Uruguay, visited the nearby Argentine city of Gualeguaychu, where they could afford to live lavishly and snap up eye-popping bargains, thanks to a huge disparity in the two South American countries’ currencies. With its economy faltering, Argentina’s peso has plunged against the U.S. dollar and its annual inflation is 115.6%, one of the highest rates in the world. In contrast, Uruguay’s economy is more stable, with low inflation and a stronger currency. The result has been a huge flow of shoppers from Uruguay throwing an economic lifeline to struggling Argentine stores and restaurants in cities like GualeguaychĂș, Concordia and ColĂłn. But there’s a downside for Uruguayan businesses along the border: In the provinces of Salto, PaysandĂș, RĂo Negro and Soriano, municipal authorities say 170 stores closed in the first five months of this year. Businesses still open complain they hardly have any customers. The price differences between the two countries can be staggering. A liter of sunflower oil that costs $5 in Uruguay is 50 cents in Argentina. A jar of skin-care cream that costs $10 in Uruguay can be had for a dollar across the border. And a liter of gasoline in Uruguay is close to $2. In the Argentine province of Entre Rios it is 52 cents.
European heat wave sparks multiple warnings, shuts Greece’s Acropolis (Washington Post) Parts of southern Europe are sweltering under a heat wave, with a historic monument forced to close in Greece as authorities in several countries issued warnings over the high temperatures. Cyprus’s meteorology department warned of extreme heat on Saturday, with temperatures expected to reach 110 degrees Fahrenheit (44 Celsius) in inland areas, while Italy’s Health Ministry issued red alerts for over a dozen cities, including the capital Rome, and warned people to avoid heat and direct sun during the hottest hours. Germany, meanwhile, announced heat warnings for about half the country. In Greece’s Attica region, home to the capital Athens, temperatures were predicted to reach up to 104 degrees (40 Celsius) on Saturday. Extreme temperatures on Friday prompted authorities to temporarily close one of the city’s most recognizable monuments, the Acropolis, as Red Cross staff handed out bottled water to tourists waiting in line. The Spanish island of Mallorca could see temperatures as high as 102.2 degrees (39 Celsius) on Saturday, according to the country’s Weather Service. The heat wave over many parts of southern Europe has been caused by a high-pressure system that has been nicknamed Cerberus after the multi-headed dog said to guard the underworld in ancient Greek mythology.
Ukraine’s Forgotten Villages (NYT) Leave the eastern Ukrainian city of Izium and turn west onto rougher roads, where dead trees and twisted power lines give way to a string of shattered villages. These enclaves, once the backbone of Ukraine’s agricultural eastern steppe, were reduced to ruin as the war passed over them like a flood tide. Despite being recaptured by Ukraine’s military last fall, the villages of Sulyhivka, Virnopillia and Kamianka are now at risk of being lost—not to artillery or pitched battles, but to overgrown weeds, wildflowers and minefields. They are another kind of casualty in a war that has claimed many. The few residents who returned home after the Russians retreated are struggling to live. They have waited 10 months, in vain, for electricity to be restored, for their fields to be cleared of explosives, and for neighbors to come back to restore some semblance of community.
Torrential rains in South Korea kill at least 26 in landslides and floods (AP) Days of heavy rain in South Korea killed at least 26 people and left 10 others missing in landslides and floods, the government said Saturday. South Korea has been pounded by heavy rains since July 9. The ministry report said the rainfall had forced about 5,570 people to evacuate and left 25,470 households without electricity in the past several days.
Syria’s “sovereign decision” (Foreign Policy) Syrian officials announced on Thursday that they will continue to allow United Nations humanitarian aid to enter rebel-held northern areas of the country through the Bab al-Hawa crossing but with government oversight, thereby giving Syrian President Bashar al-Assad control over almost all aid deliveries in the north. This comes after the U.N. Security Council failed, thanks to a Russian veto, to extend a 2014 agreement on Thursday allowing international relief access to Syria’s rebel-held territory without Syrian government involvement. Damascus’s announcement is a “sovereign decision,” wrote Bassam Sabbagh, Syrian ambassador to the U.N., to assist the roughly 4.1 million people in northwest Syria dependent on these humanitarian supplies. Syria maintains that the U.N.’s aid mechanism violates Damascus’s sovereignty and that Assad’s regime should have control over how aid enters the country. However, some U.N. Security Council members were quick to denounce Syria’s decision, with British ambassador Barbara Woodward warning that “without U.N. monitoring, control of this critical lifeline has been handed to the man responsible for the Syrian people’s suffering.”
Israeli Unions and Military Reservists Renew Resistance to Judicial Overhaul (NYT) Union chiefs, business leaders and military reservists in Israel have warned the far-right government that proceeding with its plan to limit judicial powers without a social consensus will open the door for another wave of national strikes and business closures. The country’s largest labor union, the Israeli medical association and thousands of military reservists have all said that they could go on strike, scale back operations or refuse to volunteer for army service if the government’s plan goes ahead. “The option of general strike is on the table,” Peter Lerner, a spokesman for the Histadrut, Israel’s largest labor union, said in a phone interview on Friday morning. The latest warnings set the stage for a showdown comparable to an earlier wave of social turmoil in March, when labor strikes, disquiet in the military and mass protests destabilized large parts of Israel’s economy, security services and infrastructure. The unrest shut down universities, municipal authorities, stopped departing flights from the main airport and prompted the government to suspend a previous iteration of the judicial plan.
Nigeria: Soaring costs for food and transport (NPR) The cost of food and transport in Nigeria have soared since the end of May. The trigger was the removal of a fuel subsidy that dates to the 1970s and kept fuel prices artificially lower than the market rate and lower than in neighboring countries. But in his inaugural speech on May 29, new president Bola Ahmed Tinubu declared an end to the subsidy. It had become too expensive—rising to $9.7 billion last year, a quarter of Nigeria’s budget— all while government revenues were stretched thin. The ripple effects were immediate. Fuel prices almost tripled overnight, from roughly 180 naira (23 cents) per liter in May, to roughly 500 naira (70 cents). Fuel prices are expected to rise even further to account for the depreciation in Nigeria’s currency since May. The impact of the subsidy has been profound in a large but challenging economy with 70% of people living in poverty. The World Bank says an additional 7 million people in Nigeria could be plunged into poverty by the end of the year—driven by a combination of a painful cash crisis earlier this year, high inflation and the fuel subsidy.
South Africa deploys army over burning of trucks, braces for unrest over ex-president’s court case (AP) South Africa deployed the army to help secure four provinces Friday, after at least 21 delivery trucks were set on fire in the past five days and amid concerns of unrest over a court decision that could send former President Jacob Zuma back to jail. The deployment of soldiers came a day after South Africa’s apex Constitutional Court ruled that Zuma’s early release from prison on medical parole in 2021 was invalid. The Department of Corrections has not said if it will order Zuma back to jail to serve the remainder of a 15-month prison sentence for contempt of court, but his initial jailing two years ago sparked a week of violent protests that left more than 350 people dead in some of the worst violence South Africa had experienced in 30 years. Police said they had no evidence that this week’s torching of trucks was connected to the 2021 unrest or to Zuma, but the decision in Zuma’s court case clearly has put the country on edge.
The Whitest of White Paints (NYT) Xiulin Ruan, a professor of mechanical engineering at Purdue University, didn’t set out to make it into the Guinness World Records when he began trying to make a new type of paint. In 2020, Dr. Ruan and his team unveiled their creation: a type of white paint that can act as a reflector, bouncing 95 percent of the sun’s rays away from the Earth’s surface, up through the atmosphere and into deep space. A few months later, they announced an even more potent formulation that increased sunlight reflection to 98 percent. The paint’s properties are almost superheroic. It can make surfaces as much as eight degrees Fahrenheit cooler than ambient air temperatures at midday, and up to 19 degrees cooler at night, reducing temperatures inside buildings and decreasing air-conditioning needs by as much as 40 percent. It is cool to the touch, even under a blazing sun, Dr. Ruan said. Unlike air-conditioners, the paint doesn’t need any energy to work, and it doesn’t warm the outside air. In 2021, Guinness declared it the whitest paint ever, and it’s since collected several awards. The paint is at least a year from being ready for commercial use, and work is underway to increase its durability and dirt resistance.

Pentagon closes $7.8 billion deal with Lockheed for 126 F-35 jets
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 04/30/2023 - 20:30 in Military
Lockheed Martin received a $7.8 billion contract on Friday for 126 of its F-35s, completing a $30 billion contract to provide the fighters to the U.S. military and allies, the Pentagon announced.
It was the final installment of the megacontract for a total of 398 F-35 jets. The latest batch of the world's most expensive weapons system includes 77 planes for the U.S. Air Force, Navy and Marines, as well as smaller numbers for the allies Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, Finland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Poland and Denmark.
Tumblr media
The funding was postponed until Congress approved the final version of the government spending bill for this fiscal year in December. Friday's award is the latest F-35 contract in what is designed to be a $412 billion acquisition program for about 3,000 planes to the U.S. and other countries.
The concession - the 17th production contract - culminates months of intense negotiations for three production batches under which the Department of Defense reduced the number of jets ordered. Before the start of negotiations, the Department of Defense had said it could buy up to 485 of the jets.
Boosting Lockheed
Tumblr media
On the positive side for Lockheed, the international profile of the F-35 has never been higher. Global interest has increased due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine and increased tensions with China. South Korea has indicated that it wants more jets, and two U.S. Air Force F-35 units have carried out deterrent patrols in Europe.
The F-35 accounted for 26% of Lockheed's $15.1 billion sales in the first quarter. On March 30, 899 jets were delivered to customers in the U.S. and abroad, Lockheed said.
The signing of the contract is a boost for Lockheed, whose aerospace division has been struggling with supplier problems and rising costs after the Covid-19 pandemic.
Tumblr media
Twelve military services around the world have declared the F-35 operational, and the Pentagon and Lockheed, based in Bethesda, Maryland, have reduced a list of unresolved problems.
The number of “open disability reports” is now 831, the F-35 program office said, down from 845 in September 2021. At the beginning of last year, the total was 864, including eight defects of "Category 1" considered the most serious to fly, safety of flight operations or both.
Tumblr media
On the negative side, the excess costs in a project to upgrade the cabin computer hardware increased an additional 236 million. The projected cost of the project is now almost double the original contract of $712 million.
The delivery of the first F-35 with updated hardware, crucial for the advanced capabilities of the fighter, can be postponed for another year, until April 2024 - placing it 16 months later than originally planned.

Station 2: Betrayal and Arrest if Jesus!
The Betrayal and Arrest of Jesus!
Leader: We adore you O Christ, and we praise you.
All:  Because by your Holy Cross you have saved all of creation.
43 Immediately, while he was still speaking, Judas, one of the twelve, arrived, and with him there was a crowd with swords and clubs, from the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders. 44 Now the betrayer had given them a sign, saying, “The one I will kiss is the man; arrest him and lead him away under guard.” 45 So when he came, he went up to him at once and said, “Rabbi!” and kissed him. 46 Then they laid hands on him and arrested him. 47 But one of those who stood near drew his sword and struck the slave of the high priest, cutting off his ear. 48 Then Jesus said to them, “Have you come out with swords and clubs to arrest me as though I were a rebel? 49 Day after day I was with you in the temple teaching, and you did not arrest me. But let the scriptures be fulfilled.” 50 All of them deserted him and fled.1 A certain young man was following him, wearing nothing but a linen cloth. They caught hold of him, 52 but he left the linen cloth and ran off naked.” (Mark 14:42-46)
Rejection always hurts. It tears at our self-esteem, makes us feel like we are nothing, and leaves us doubting who we are. Homeless people are rejected all the time. When people walk by and do not even see the person on the side walk  they feel like they nothing. May we be haunted by the feeling of rejection, as we look at our neighbor before us.
The Trevor Project's latest report examining the Mental Health of Black Transgender and Nonbinary Young People reveals one in four, of their group as compared to twelve percent of the cisgender and LGBQ groups have higher rates of victimization, attempts from others to change their sexual orientation and housing instability.
We have failed to see one of the understandings of our evolution as human beings is the various gender differences; and the Church in particular continues its journey of bias, transphobia, and homophobia.  We are still racially discriminating. A recent study show that 50% of blacks have no faith in their white brothers and sisters.
When we fail to acknowledge the racial discrimination, fail to even seek to understand, and ignore the rejection and discrimination of trans and nonbinary folk we are betraying Jesus in our midst!
All:   Jesus declares: “If anyone wants to become a follower, let them deny themselves  and take up their cross. And follow me.”

Kisses in the Corridor {Tim Drake x Reader}
Tumblr media
MASTERLIST
REQUEST HERE
Word Count: 3,604
Request: Could you please write a tim x reader fic where the reader is a superhero (I was thinking like Barry Allen’s kid and the new Kid Flash) and is also Tim’s s/o and maybe Bruce and/or the Flash catch them having sex? 💜
2s. “stop before someone sees!" & 4s. "ten? i only need five."
WARNING NSFW MATURE CONTENT 18+ Tim and reader are 18
I WOKE up to the sound of a loud buzzing. I moved away from Tim’s grip and reached on the nightstand for my phone. I looked back at Tim, he held the same peaceful expression. I squinted at the caller ID and immediately sat up. I tried to be as gentle as possible, not to wake Tim. He was normally a very light sleeper, but he was sleep deprived. I pushed the blankets off and moved out of the room. I gently opened the door and snuck out into the hallway. I looked down at the caller ID once more to be sure before I answered.
DAD
“Dad? It’s 3am, what’s going on?” I whispered, I heard a rustling in the background. There was some kind of conflict, but I couldn’t quite make it out. After a few moments there was silence, then a heavy sigh.“I need your help.”
“What’s going on?” I moved down the hall trying my best to be quiet. “I’m going to send you some files. I need you to get Tim to decrypt them.”
“Okay send them to me and I’ll have him look at them as soon as he wakes up.” I heard a pause from the other side of the line. “When he-” He paused. “He’s with you right now?” I hadn’t exactly mentioned that I had moved in with him. As far as he knew I was still staying with in the house with the others. I faked a yawn. “I gotta go dad, love you.”
I quickly hung up and moved back into the bedroom. I got back into bed and Tim shifted slightly. I moved closer and he put his arm around me again.
I woke up and found Tim looking up at the ceiling. “Did you sleep okay? I noticed you got out of bed last night.” He turned to me, and I sighed. “Sorry I thought I was being quiet.” He chuckled, “Work hazard. Don’t worry about it.” I sat up and grabbed my phone. “Well it was my dad.” He squinted his eyes. “Why did he call you at 3am?”
“He wanted me to send you some files he needs decrypted.” I handed him my phone and showed him the files. He hummed and sat up. “I’m sorry I know you just finished your project-” He shook his head and get out of bed. “I really don’t mind. I’m sure your father wouldn’t have asked if it wasn’t important.” Tim grabbed his laptop and connected my phone. We moved into the bathroom and got started on our morning routines.
Tim’s was straight forward, he wanted to brush his teeth and get to work. I on the other hand had a few steps. I tried to make Tim do them with me as much as I could. “Come here.” I grabbed his face and massaged a gentle cleanser. Wearing masks almost every night didn’t work wonders for out skin. He waited patiently until I was done. I applied some moisturizer, “All done.”
He smiled and pulled me in for a kiss. “I’ll get the coffee started.”
-------------------------------------------------
Tim spent most of the day working on the files. When it was time to leave for patrol I had to pry him from the computer. “It’s time already?” I nodded and moved to get up. He stretched and then looked around.
I held out his suit and he sighed in relief. “What would I do without you?” He pulled his shirt over his head. My eyes raked over his toned chest. He had come a long way. He used to be lanky, but he had put on a lot more muscle in the past two years. Whatever shape he was in, I loved him.
Truth be told I was still getting used to his chiseled features. I gave him once last glance. “If I stay here any longer we’re going to be late.” I handed him his suit and moved out of the room. I grabbed my phone and noticed a missed call.
DAD: I’ll be by Friday afternoon, Bruce needs me to speak at his proposal. Looking forward to talking to Tim.
As if Tim didn’t have enough on his plate. I still had another 3 days to prepare Tim. I decided to tell him tomorrow. I put my phone down and Tim emerged from the bedroom. We met Dick at the coordinates he gave us. Dick left for the night leaving the two of us in charge. Tim had wired the police scanners to our headsets. The night moved slowly.
That was until the 3rd hour.
“10-44. Any units between 4th street and Palmdale?” Tim and I exchanged looks, stolen vehicle. We were only a few minutes out. Tim used his grapple, seeing as we were nearby. I got there a few minutes before him. “How bad is it?” The scanners had grown more chaotic. This wasn’t a normal stolen vehicle situation. We learned that there were children inside the car when it was taken. On top of it all, the driver was intoxicated. “Can you send out an alert and clear the next two blocks?”
“Done.”
I kept up with the vehicle, doing my best to move civilians out of the path. With the alert Tim had sent out. I was going to get inside the vehicle and stop the driver. “He’s approaching a construction site. You’re going in blind, the city hasn’t updated the maps.”
“Send an ambulance, and make sure the police don’t go into construction.”
“Y/N-” Tim’s voice said sternly. He was too far behind to do anything. “Be careful.”
“Always am.” Now that there were no civilians in the way, I was going to have to get the children out first. He was nearing the end of the map. I moved in and saw two children in the backseat. I needed to take them one by one. It was safer, their bodies weren’t meant to undergo high velocities. I needed to protected them from whiplash.
The first child was a beautiful chocolate haired boy. “Okay, where are you Tim?”
“Magnolia.” He replied immediately. I took the boy and ran him to Tim. By time his older brother blinked I was back. I left them both with Tim and rushed back to the driver. By now he knew that something was going on. He sped up. “What are you doing?” Tim’s worried voice came over the headset. “They’re safe.”
“He could get away.” I used every ounce of my stamina to catch up. I caught up and moved inside the car. I tried to take control, but he wasn’t giving up. The site was less than a mile away. As it grew closer, I saw it was the outline of a building.
If he breached the gates he wouldn’t have time to stop. He would drive through the building’s foundation, which wasn’t secure. It would crumble onto of us. His hand moved to the gun he had by his side. He slammed the gun into the side of my head. I felt the warmth trickling down the side of my face. I threw a punch and felt it connect. He fired a shot and moved my head back. He missed. I lifted my head back up and took the gun. and tossed it in the back seat. I looked up, it was too late. We were almost inside the building.
Tim was screaming in my headset. He heard the gunshot. I opened the door and pulled the driver out. I looked in front of us, the building slowly started to crumble. There was still a chance. There was a small opening where the building hadn’t caved in yet.
I had to make a choice. I needed to risk taking him and him slowing me down. Or I could leave him and get out, guaranteed. I had a fraction of a second to decide. I took one look at him and decided to risk it. I held on too him and used all my strength to reach the opening. I was exhausted. Just catching up to him when he was miles ahead had taken it out of me. Now I was bleeding, and drained.
I thought about Tim. Memories of us flashed inside my head. I mustered enough strength to run. I threw the man out and then jumped out of the opening. On impact, I knew something wasn’t okay. I had landed on my shoulder. “Tim.”
He was just outside the gates.
-------------------------------------------------
Luckily my body worked hard to fix the broken bone. Being a speedster came with its perks. Fast metabolism, and healing. By the time Bruce’s proposal came around, my wounds were almost completely healed.
“Are you sure you want to go?” Tim asked once more, hands on either side of my face. “I’m fine Tim. I promise. I wouldn’t miss this for the world.” He sighed, he had seen the x- rays. Physically I was fine. “Fine but if you start to feel even just a headache, we’re coming back.” I nodded and he looked over my face again.
I stuck out my hand and he placed a kiss on it before intertwining our fingers.
We arrived right on time. Tim’s part of Bruce’s proposal was one of the first points. He had to go set up in Bruce’s office. “I’ll be right back.” He took his files and rushed up to the office. I joined Dick, Jason and Damien in the lounge. “Hello, boys.”
They looked up and Dick’s eyebrow’s knitted together. “Are you even supposed to be out of bed?” I laughed, “Dick it was just my shoulder. I’m fine.” Damian snickered at his brother. Dick looked at between his brothers. Jason had a smirk on his face. “What?”
“Speedster. They heal 20 times faster than us.”
“He got promoted to lead of the biotech department of Wayne Enterprises a few weeks ago.”
The boys bickered. My eyes scanned the room for my father. He was incredibly hard to miss. “I’ll be back.” The boys didn’t even turn in my direction. I walked to the other side of the lounge. He turned to me and then patted his college on the shoulder. He approached me, a big smile on his face. “Hey dad.” He opened his arms and pulled me in for a tight hug. I groaned, “Little too hard.” I gasped and he let go. “Sorry, I just haven’t seen you much.”
“I know. I’m sorry I’ve been meaning to visit.” He nodded and looked around. “Where’s Tim?” I pointed to Bruce’s office. “He’s setting up.” My father raised his eyebrows. “I didn’t know he was part of the presentation.”
“Wow. That’s fantastic.” He genuinely was impressed. After all he had a background in bio medicine. He knew how hard the work was. “We’ll I’d love to talk to him about it.” I laughed, of course he did. “You can come by our place after and I’m sure he’d talk your ear off.” He turned to me. His eyes narrowing.
Realization struck, and I cursed internally. Eventually I was going to have to tell him, but I was hoping back at home. In front of family and witnesses. Before he could say anything. There was an announcement on the overhead speaker. We were ushered as the presentations were about to begin.
-------------------------------------------------
Tim did fantastic as expected. He kept the crowd engages and said everything perfectly. He approached me as he walked off of the stage. I clapped along with the crowd. He greeted me with a kiss. “You did amazing Tim.” We walked to the back of the room. He didn’t want to interrupt anyone. He gestured for the door. He took my hand and I followed after him. We closed the door behind us and stood in the corridor. Tim let out a deep breath.
He still wasn’t used to speaking in crowds, and this was a lot larger than he was used to. “Are you alright?” He nodded, “I’m glad it’s over.” He moved to take off his tuxedo jacket. I watched as his arms contracted. He slowly rolled up his sleeves, revealing his muscular arms.
He put his jacket over his arm and looked over at me. A small grin on his face. “What?” I shook my head and sighed. “How much longer is this?” He looked at the clock. “We still have another hour.” I looked up at him. His piercing blue eyes were fixated on mine. His hair wast neatly parted down the middle, every strand perfectly combed in place. He moved closer and put his hand over the wall near my head. “What’s got you all flustered Y/N?”
I took a deep breath, my eyes fixated on his lips. “You, Drake.” He smirked and pressed his lips against mine.
Barry looked around the room, and noticed the absence of Y/N and Tim. He turned to Bruce. “Where are they?” Bruce looked around. No sigh of them. He looked at the cameras on his watch. He didn’t see them. Bruce shook his head. The two got up and moved into the lounge. Damian, Jason and Dick were there for security. He knew no one would get past them unnoticed.
“Have either of you seen Y/N and Tim?” Bruce asked. Dick and Jason looked at each other and then shrugged. Bruce sighed, so much for security.
“I think I saw them go-” Damian spoke nonchalantly. He looked in front of him, behind Bruce and Barry Dick and Jason were trying to tell him something. Quite frankly, they looked like idiots. They were shaking their heads violently waving their arms back and forth. Damien squinted as he tried to read the boys lips. Dick mouthed something he couldn’t quite make out. Bruce and Barry exchanged looks, they turned around and saw Dick and Jason conversing casually.
“Damian?” Jason motioned for him to keep his lips zipped. A smirk grew on Damian's face. He wanted to see it all play out.
Dick and Jason tried. They weren’t quite sure what they were up to but they knew it was nothing good. They tried to stay in Tim’s good graces, in the blink of an eye Tim could hack everything they owned. As for Y/N, they knew there would be no escaping. Y/N could catch up to them anywhere. In short, they didn’t want to piss either of them off.
They had noticed their brother couldn’t keep his hands off of his date. They were two hyperactive teenagers, it didn’t take rocket science to figure it out. They watched as Damian’s smirk grew. He hadn’t figured it out but he knew it would get Tim in trouble and that was enough for him. “They went down the hall and up the elevator.” Bruce gave a short nod and the two went off.
“Well, we tried.” Jason shrugged, and took a swing of his drink. He wasn’t going to deny that watching Tim get his ass kicked by a speedster wasn’t funny. “Should’ve choked the little bastard.” Dick sighed, the two could only wait.
-------------------------------------------------
“Tim.” I let out a shaky breath, trying my hardest to keep quiet. “Stop before someone sees!" We were in a building full of people, at any moment someone could walk down the corridor. Tim chuckled against my neck, “You really want me to stop?” I bit my lip, he was right. I didn’t want him to stop. I was just worried about being caught. “The next presentation starts in 10 minutes.”
"Ten? I only need five."
At this point I threw all common sense out of the window. I took his hand and we were in his office in seconds. I had closed the door behind us. Tim smirked, “In my office? You little-” I interrupted him by kissing him. My hands moved from his hair and down to his suit. I quickly unbuttoned his dress shirt, and my hands moved to unbuckle his belt.
Without breaking the kiss i discarded his dress shirt on the floor. His hands moved to remove my clothing. We broke away for a moment to catch our breaths. He picked me up and moved us to the couch. His lips reconnected to mine once more. I straddled his waist and moved against him for friction. My hands moved back down to the waistband of his boxers. I pulled them down and ran my hands up and down his length.
He let out a groan. “Fuck.” He got rid of the rest of my clothes throwing them across his office. I didn’t waste time in scolding him. I lowered myself down onto his length. We both let out a sigh, all of our pent up frustrations released. Tim’s hands moved back to my waist. He lifted me and then slammed me back down onto himself. I bit my lip, trying to stay quiet. His lips moved down to my neck, leaving wet kisses before moving to whisper in my ear. “They’re all down stairs, I want to hear you.”
Tim loved hearing vocalization, he couldn’t get enough. He knew every part of my body. He knew exactly what to do to get what he wanted. He speed up, and hit just the right spot. I gave in. “Oh god.” We were both breathing heavily. Sounds of pleasure overtook the room. Our bodies moved against each other hungrily. Tim smirked as he moved back to my neck. He moved right to my sweet spot. “Fuck,Tim.”
I dug my nails into his shoulders, leaving small red lines, He pulled away from my neck, satisfied by his work. His lips moved back to mine and speed up again. I felt a growing knot in my stomach each time he moved in and out. Sensing I was close he sat up and took control. He thrusted up into me, over and over, and I grew louder each time. “Please, Tim.” I could feel his thrusts becoming more sloppy, he was close. My orgasm came soon after, my body gave out. I shook against him. He helped me ride out my high. He came and I felt his warmth spread in my core.
“Y/N are you okay-” The door burst open, in the heat of the moment I had forgotten to lock it. Luckily Tim reached for his shirt. He quickly used it to cover me. “I thought you were hurt or dear god.” Barry looked at the ceiling, trying to avert his gaze.
“TIMOTHY JACKSON DRAKE!” Bruce’s voice echoed off the walls. Surely the boys down stairs were snickering. “In your office of all places.” He rubbed his hand across his face. Neither of us knew what to say. “Get dressed. Now.” Bruce said sternly before slamming Tim’s office door.
We moved off of each other and tried to find our clothes. Of course Tim in desperation had scattered my clothes. I was kind enough to leave his nicely by the couch. We quickly got dressed and opened the door. Bruce crossed his arms over his chest. Barry glared at Tim.
“Hey dad.” I smiled nervously, he sighed deeply. “I don’t even know where to start. I’m so-”
“Did you finish uploading the files before you-” Bruce couldn’t finish the sentence, Tim pulled the hard drive out his pocket and handed it over. “Go.” He waved us off and I watched as he placed a hand on my father’s chest. I motioned for Tim to go, and I approached my father. Bruce looked between us and nodded.
“I’m sorry.” He nodded, a silence washed over us. Neither of us sure what to say. Finally, he broke the silence. “So, you really love him?” I looked back at Tim who was having his talk with Bruce. I smiled and nodded. “I really do.” It gave Barry comfort. He had seen the strength of the connection when he first met Tim a year ago. He knew that they were growing up, it was inevitable. After all, he was a teenager once. He knew what it was like to be deeply in love. For now, all he could do was try and forget this ever happened. Tim approached us. I looked back and forth between the two. For a long moment there was just silence. The two held eye contact. “I expect to see you during the holidays Timothy.” Tim nodded, “Of course sir.”
We went back down stairs. Damian snickered, and Tim shot a glare at his brothers. Dick and Jason pointed to their youngest brother. “If either of you breathe a word...” Tim trailed off, his threat looming. His older brothers nodded. “And you,” He turned to Damian. “I’ll end you.” I placed my hand on Tim’s chest. He backed away and stood up straight. “You know he-”
“Thank you for the drive, you helped save a lot of people.” And with that he was off. Tim breathed a sigh of relief, “I thought he was going to kill me.”
“I know. In time, let’s just get through this.” Tim sighed, “Fine.”
