Uploaded 31 January 2023 Princess Anne Survives Dramatic Kidnapping Attempt – News at Ten Studio Special On 20 March 1974, Princess Anne, Princess Royal and her husband, Captain Mark Phillips, survived a violent kidnapping attempt while travelling down the Mall. The royal couple were returning to Buckingham Palace after a charity event when Ian Ball pulled his Ford Escort out in front of the Princess IV car and began shooting at the royal motorcade. After wounding Anne's personal police officer, Inspector James Beaton, and her chauffeur, Alex Callender, Ian Ball approached the car and shouted at the Princess Royal to get out of the car. The Princess' response: "Not bloody likely!" In total, four people were shot before Ball was finally disarmed. This video is an excerpt of the News at Ten bulletin broadcast the night of the attack. At the time it was thought to have been an attempted assassination rather than a kidnapping. ITN's veteran reporter and presenter Reginald Bosanquet led the programme, while Norman Rees interviewed eyewitness Miss Sammy Scott.

Rick Astley is back

"Singer Rick Astley is set to make make a comeback with a one-off tour.

Astley will take to the stage with a host of stars for one week only, 20 years after scoring a number one hit around the world.

He said: "I was offered a really nice trip to Japan to do some of my 80s hits ... and to my surprise I kind of enjoyed it.

"I've dome some little gigs where I've done swing numbers, but in terms of singing for thousands of people, it's still a bit of a buzz."

Astley was a huge hit in the UK in the eighties when he shot to Number One with debut single Never Gonna Give You Up.

After a string of hits, he narrowly missed the spot with a Christmas cover of the classic When I Fall In Love."

Sky Monster 2023 Oh damn. ITN is definitely now the new Asylum. The new kings of crap. I remember the Troll 2 documentary having someone refer to the film as a made by people that knew how to make a movie but all got brain damage and went crazy. ITN movies are so flat and soulless but full of wild ideas. The first half of the film is typical ITN filled with so many "almost". Almost good looking and talented actors, almost a good plot and or idea, almost professional camera work, lighting and editing. But each of these elements all have something wrong regardless. Basically Sky Monster is the same plot of the 2010 movie Altitude that get attacked by Cthulhu in the sky. Sky monster starts with a near unbearable 30 minutes of a bunch of attractive young women getting on a private plane to go to a party 6 hours away. This 30 minutes feels like 6hrs (if you've seen any ITN films you've met these women before and they are basically the same every movie). It's all played straight and serious so I just can't tell if that's the joke or it's all hilarious by mistake as the next half of the film goes berserk. The film already looks weird as it's filmed well but purposefully overexposed for dramatic bright sunlight in this small plane. But once the monster attacks every dumb idea, broken logic and forced action beat is used and none of it works right but they just keep doing it anyways. ITN has been kicking out so many movies lately and after the success of Blood and Honey they are only going even harder. So it can't be that they don't know this stuff is nonsense and drivel..or is it? Is it? Not all ITN films have the same director but they do use all the same people just in different positions so it's not just a coincidence their movies are like this. They must know by now that it's the hate that gets them hits. Part of me wants to imagine it's all by mistake. However unlike some old ITN the second half of this fast paced, stupid as hell but entertaining. So if ITN movies are gonna be this bad I hope they don't like this where at least it's ridiculous enough to enjoy it.

In anticipation of the trip, we've looked back through our collection to May 1972, when Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh made a State Visit to France. This report covers the second day of the trip, when the pair took part in a wreath-laying ceremony to commemorate those who served in the Second World War and Queen Elizabeth met veterans of the French Resistance. That afternoon, Prince Philip spoke - in French - at a lunch given at the Chamber of Commerce. The Duke spoke of renewed cooperation between Britain and France after a decade of heated exchanges. Indeed, at the time of his speaking, Britain was only months away from joining the European Economic Community (EEC), the predecessor to the European Union (EU). Finally, the day ended with the pair attending a reception at the British Embassy.
