Every week someone makes a post about how annoying it is that Dick Grayson fans don't acknowledge his flaws, and every week someone replies with an explanation that the flaws OP listed are entirely fanon and inconsistent with canon as it actually happened and at this point I have to assume that none of those explanations are ever going to stick because clearly some people just want the fanon to be true.
Anyway, I'm just putting this here for me to edit and add relevant-to-the-topic links later so I'll have them nicely at hand to read and sooth my frustrations when it gets real bad out there. (Echo chambers are good when we use them to drown out character mischaracterizing fanon.)
#dick grayson#canon vs fanon#yes this is about 'dick was a bad brother to jason' yet again#😮💨#super problematic how dick didn't pack up his life & become a devoted big brother to the new son of a man who had already disowned dick#like in-universe he is respectfully supportive of the kid who's wearing his name and uniform#but he was also a 19 year old living in a different city and not given any indication that he was a member of bruce's family so...?#dc comics#this fanon tendency to try to cram nuclear family dynamics and angst onto relationships that do not fit that mold arghhh#add to that how real-world knowledge makes it extra ridiculous to act as if 'omg dick was such a jerk for not being there for jason!!!'#yes their interactions were minimal - I'm pretty sure that keeping dick as a titans character was the entire reason jason existed!#let's be real about jason: his character & what led to him being robin were completely different pre-crisis + his post-crisis run was brief#understandably there are 'flashback' stories to flesh out his time as robin. the worst of these disregard characterization from that time#but even with flashbacks the worst that canon actually shows would be that they weren't close? which...okay?#idk what kind of expectations some people have for the former-ward so sort of foster kid who was explicitly kicked out of bruce wayne's lif#apparently he should've 1) begged his former guardian to acknowledge him as family & 2) assumed the role of bestest big brother either way#i'd ask people to stop and really think about the 'family' structure that existed in this time period where they insist dick was the bad gu#but at this point it's clear that people who want him to be the bad guy truly don't care about why we think it's absurd#anyway i'll end this with a reminder of what I'm pretty sure were the ages etc of the parties involved:#jason (12) gotham. adopted son of bruce.#dick (19) nyc. former ward of bruce. fired from role as partner to batman.#bruce (30+) gotham. raised dick as his ward → fired dick as a partner → never indicated dick still had any place in his life → adopted jaso#oh so my tags just cutting off the final letter like that? i will not be correcting them 😡

with that new revelation in ii2 e16, i feel like there's... a lot less to know about the world of ii. at least, not to know for sure.
because, before then, you could extract some information from passing comments. remember the french or whatever pizza delivery guy who tried to pass as italian, but spoke spanish instead? from that, you could determine that 1. france, spain, and italy are places that exist and 2. if those countries exist, why not all the countries in the world?
but. but, according to what cobs said at least, mephone4 seems to have made everything. he made the weird looking grass. if he made that, then why not anything else? did that guy exist before he came onto the show? probably not! and if he was made that day, was the concept of "france," "spain," and "italy" made that day too?
there's no way for us to know what the normal world of ii looks like. do they have parallel countries to us? well, we know their continents aren't parallel. it follows that their countries wouldn't be, either. who knows what their history is like? how the normal objects are like? will we know?

Is there a way we can incorporate endangered plants into urban guerilla gardening? Has anyone tried this?

i need to make more friends who i can drag out to karaoke nights with me lmao
#i wanna go out for karaoke tonight but i feel weird about going alone bc i haven't been to my monday night place in like over a month#it's the one the guy i kinda like hosts lol#it's a cool vibe but i haven't been going bc it's soooo far away and i always have to uber home bc otherwise it takes 2 hours to get home#i wanna go again but i don't know anyone else really and i don't just wanna sit there alone. i need people to get hyped with#i wish my new bestie who i met through karaoke was here but she goes to med school upstate and only comes down on weekends 😔#she'll be here this weekend and said she might stay until tuesday..... perhaps next monday#but i also wanna go tonight tho bc i can stay late if i want. next week i will Have A Job and will have to leave early-ish#eye dee kay. we'll see what i decide lol#if i end up going i don't have to leave until 8. or later. it starts at 9-ish but goes until 2 or 3 usually so i have time to think#if any of my nyc area mutuals wanna go out for karaoke in bushwick tonight hit me up lol#m.txt

I think I may need to lower my standards orz
#the three things I'm going to have to think about compromising on: pay. location. industry.#the problem is that the best-paying industry in NYC is obviously finance. And that means private equity and hedge funds.#which are patently evil#so like. I don't want to work in that industry#but my skillset won't get a living wage (for NYC) in other industries#so I have to either bite the bullet and work on LI (I'd really rather not) work for an evil industry (GOD no) or#get a wage low enough that I'll have to continue living with my parents indefinitely and commute four or five hours a day#personal#vent post#job hunting

#for the record i am constantly projecting onto mello so you're not wrong!#however i prommy i have committed no murders and am not in organized crime :-)#i'll also say that i don't really choose POV based on that though#i pick based on whose perspective i think is more compelling for a given idea#which is usually me asking myself:#a) whose knowledge of the situation is less complete?#b) whose trajectory over the course of the story is more dynamic?#c) what specifically am i aiming to do with this story?#mello's knowledge is often less complete#and his trajectory can be very compelling to write bc i usually have him start out in some level of denial#in addition some stories are better from mello POV bc he simply does more that's interesting to write about#for example. in “i want to hold you (hostage)” mello travels from LA to NYC.#during that time we can only presume that near is just like. inside. working. probably being less nuts.#hopefully this doesn't end up sounding defensive bc i genuinely found this very amusing dhfhfhfh i just like talking abt#writing & storytelling decisions#asks
