Handsome Stranger
matt stone x reader
summary: where reader falls in love with the stranger in the apartment building across from her; part one.
word count: 1045
note: this is gonna be a softer fic but knowing me will probably spice up eventually. i've had this idea for soooo long but i'm not sure how everyone else will like it so please give me your feedback! <3
also surprise i'm australian so i made the character too... u can just ignore this and pretend she's from wherever you're from :)) so your version doesn't HAVE to be australian, she could have lived there briefly? its not that deep enjoy use your imagination
You'd only just moved to Brooklyn from Australia two months ago. The change was daunting and you were struggling to find your footing in such a new place. Though it'd always been a dream of yours to move to New York, you were still feeling out of place and the home sickness was starting to creep up. You'd heard it takes three months for the homesick feeling to flee, so your goal was to hold out just that little bit longer and try to enjoy the experience.
Coming from a small country town, the hustle and bustle of the Big Apple outside your window evoked a strange sense of comfort for you. You never truly felt alone, even though you were 10,000 miles (you'd had to learn the difference between kilometres and miles) from your friends and family. You'd often sit on your windowsill, as your apartment had no balcony, and watch all the pretty lights, and the cars, and hundreds and hundreds of people who occupied the streets. And more often than you'd like to admit, your eyes would wander to the handsome man in the apartment opposite yours. Your buildings were relatively close to one another, and it was safe to assume he also liked to enjoy the city life from afar. His eyes would often wander to your window as well.
Although you'd never shared a word, he'd become a huge comfort for you, almost a part of your nighttime routine. You'd get home from work around five, shower, play music or watch tv while you made some simple dinner, and then your favourite part; sit by your windowsill with a glass of red and admire your new life. Sometimes you'd read, sometimes you'd catch up on work emails. Most the time, you watched the handsome man in the other building smoke his nightly cigarette. Your buildings were quite high from the bright streets with just enough moonlight that you could just make out each others' faces.
Each night you'd watch the orange light illuminate his face, revealing the deep contours of his sharp bone structure. He'd lean his elbows on the windowsill, enjoying the autumn breeze as much as you, who sat with your back to the right side of the wall with your legs out in front of you, giving you the perfect view of the handsome stranger.
You wondered what kind of person he was. You believed you could tell a lot about a person from their apartment. From what you could see, he was relatively tidy and maybe a minimalistic, a single tall lamp responsible for the warm glow in his space. He wore button up tops and dress pants everyday, making you all the more curious about this man.
Each night after your shared glances and appreciation for the chaos below your buildings, he'd send a wave your way, and you'd always reciprocate, smiling ear to ear. You'd take that as your cue to close the blinds and get into bed.
You nearly missed it, but tonight he didn't wave. Instead, he gestured to himself, then you, then down to the ground. You cocked your head, raising your arms with a laugh he couldn't hear as a means to say "what?" He threw his head back dramatically, repeating his gestures slower and more exaggerated this time. "Oh, you wanna go down there?" You shouted across to him, hearing a faint, echoey, "what?" in return. You laughed again, shaking your head. You mirrored his own gesture back to him, earning yourself an eager nod and a thumbs up from the stranger. You chuckled to yourself as you watched him disappear back into his apartment, your heart racing as you comprehended what you just agreed to.
Only clad in silk pyjamas and slippers, you quickly grabbed your phone and keys and made your way to the elevator. You blood was buzzing through your veins like electricity at the thought of finally getting to hear his voice, to properly see his features in light.
Your heard thrummed in your ears as your elevator reached ground level, and suddenly you didn't want to meet the handsome stranger anymore. Your hands started sweating and you felt sick. You cursed your legs for dragging you out of your warm building and out onto the busy street, a little embarrassed that you were in your pyjamas. Just as you were about to back out, your eyes landed on him, and as if you were in a cliché movie scene, it all suddenly felt fine.
"Hey," he smiled breathlessly, towering over you, the sweetest tooth gap on display.
"Hello," you smiled equally as big, unable to control the blush that wildly painted your cheeks. "I'm Y/N."
"I'm Matt, pleasure to finally meet you." He stuck his hand out for you to shake, ripping a nervous giggle from you. You shook his hand back, still struggling to comprehend the situation.
"Likewise," you blushed even deeper, if possible. He was massive. So tall, broad shoulders. So incredibly masculine, yet the two words you would use to describe him would be handsome or... pretty.
"I'm kind of embarrassed to be out here in my pyjamas," you quietly spoke, moving in close so only he could hear. Your knees nearly gave out when he craned his neck down to hear you better. "I know we just met, but would you like to come up to my apartment?"
Although the words sounded suggestive, neither of you even thought of the invitation in a sexual way. It was like catching up with an old friend. In the elevator, you both pointed out the elephant(s) in the room. His height, your accent. He made fun of the way you said certain words, but you could tell he liked it by the way the corners of his eyes crinkled, and the way his tongue got stuck between his teeth when he'd laugh particularly hard. He was funny. You really liked him. Although you'd just met him, his presence was warm and somewhat felt like home. You couldn't believe the pathetic words that plagued your brain like a teenagers diary. But after he left your apartment at 4am, your stupid heart continued to pang against your ribcage, and your stupid mouth couldn't stop smiling.
pls send asks with ideas, i'd love to have you guys involved xx and if this is boring PLEASE tell me thx

I would like your opinion on all too well tv 10 minute version. I always wonder about the sacred prayer line....and that she choose the wedding theme in I bet you think about me. Something about her relationship with Jake really messed with her. Was it really this short??? She referenced about breaking up multiple times....how in that short amount of time together??? Also her performances of all too well back than...they were sooo emotional, but wasn't that the time, she broke up with Harry??? And sorry, but one more thing, I'm not a native speaker, so I really don't understand the your Brooklyn broke my skin and bones line...what does it mean? I thought of a car, but I quess there is no Brooklyn car...???
ATW, as we all know widely considered to be about Jake. We also know this partial lyric of the '1st draft' from February 2011, which has the scarf (but no refrigerator light) and some lyrics which she hid with the paper in the lover journal that are presumably not part of the song / what we knew of it in 2019. (Steered it right into the ground is fascinating and reminds me of 'you drove us off the road')
To Fallon, she started talking about ATW10MV she said she was 22, then corrected herself to 21. Which maybe she was confused but is turning 21 is in the song and she's particular about age. The story she is telling is not the '1st draft' above, this is a later much longer version and potentially not the same muse:
The way that this song was written was, I was going through a bit of a sad time and I was 22 and I was in band rehearsals. I think I was 21 when I wrote this, and I was in band rehearsals for a tour that I was about to go on called the ‘Speak Now Tour.’
The Speak Now tour had 3 rehearsal periods for ATW10MV to be from:
January 2011 - tour started in Asia in February 2011, the same time that the '1st Draft' was written. So this is too early. The tour then went to Europe till March 2011. I've posted before about how she and Harry were in the same city and may have met in 2011.
May 2011 - She had a well publicised rehearsal for the US leg in which she told tickets to as a tornado benefit. The US leg then ran till November.
March 2012 - She had 4 months off before the last last Australian leg. The only rehearsal dates where she was 22, also the period Holy Ground was written which thematically fits. This is before Haylor was seen at the Kids Choice Awards.
The final ATW is presented as about Jake (who she dated for 7 weeks) who said [ATW] “has nothing to do with me".
So I think of ATW as about a composite character, Taylor first and foremost, but for muses I feel it took many lives, John, Jake and well... will we just pretend this isn't there?
Because Rolling Stone's Rob Sheffield isn't letting that link go, he has brought it up in his book, in podcasts and in Rolling Stone.
Back to your actual question the 'Your Brooklyn' line
From when your Brooklyn broke my skin and bones I'm a soldier who's returning half her weight
This line is hard to decipher such and I can't say I completely understand it. Overall I think these lines are saying the relationship damaged her self-esteem to the point of self-destructive behaviour:
"your brooklyn" - film includes a scene where he is holding court, making her feel excluded. I take the 'your' of a place (that is not any one person's" as saying the muse made her feel out of place.
"broke her skin and bones" - skin and bones is emotional and physical devastation, it is both the core of Taylor and brings to mind being gaunt.
"I'm a soldier who's returning" - like the central metaphor in The Great War the war is the relationship. Here she has returned after the war gaunt and malnourished.
"half her weight" - Sadly I take this literally, but self esteem also.
On the topic of this muse... Taylor said:
To USA Today: "There's a kind of bad that gets so overpowering you can't even write about it," she says of that time. "When you feel pain that is so far past dysfunctional, that leaves you with so many emotions that you can't filter them down to simple emotions to write about, that's when you know you really need to get out."
and
The Guardian: [Hide away and find your peace of mind / With some indie record that's much cooler than mine.] "That was the most important line of the song," Swift says. "It was a relationship where I felt very critiqued and subpar. He'd listen to this music that nobody had heard of … but as soon as anyone else liked these bands, he'd drop them. I felt that was a strange way to be a music fan. And I couldn't understand why he would never say anything nice about the songs I wrote or the music I made." for more read @cntfightmydemonsthyknowhowtoswim's Red post
Or her own words on TTPD:
And there we are again When nobody had to know You kept me like a secret But I kept you like an oath Sacred prayer and we'd swear to remember
I agree, this is so Haylor

Hello friends, and a happy new FY to those who observe. Despite somewhat bizarro weather since the unofficial start of summer after MDW (some true June gloom, a real life take of John Carpenter’s The Fog (Canada’s Version), an abundance of petrichor), weve made it to a typically stifling July weekend for the season’s flagship holiday.
The past few years I’ve been up in Cambridge for the fourth, working on my tablescape game and caramelizing peaches (stone fruit hive, we ride!!). This year I’ll be in Litchfield, baking up a brown-butter buttermilk cake and seeing god at Arethusa. Same vibes, different ZIP codes.
But I haven’t sat down to write 3,000 words on going cottagecore or larping as a wasp. No. I am here to discuss my only area of expertise: how to have a perfect aperitivo hour. This morning I was reading DealBook and they had a short bit about the continued “resilience” of the Aperol spritz. Legally I’m not sure when a trend term-limits out and just becomes, I don’t know, a tradition? And while I am genetically bound to honor tradition (see: that whole episode of This American Life about Fiddler on the Roof), I also think there are so many products on the market that are superior to, or at least as fun to try, as Aperol.
As with most European-born habits, the existence of aperitivo hour is actually like half the age of our country (ok, Aperol was invented in 1919). As a person of Being Basic experience, my introduction to the Aperol spritz circa 2015 was a watershed in the expansion of my drinking habits. To be fair, the Brits do have their own pseudo spritz, the Pimm’s Cup, which I’ve been drinking since I was maybe 17??? But it’s absolutely English in the sense that it’s not nearly as refined as it thinks—we’re just guzzling a drink of gin and fruit salad??? I mean, do not get me wrong: it is great, but no one at Pitti Uomo is begging for cucumber punch and a cheeky cig. I’ve rarely had a Pimm’s Cup and not immediately been mentally transported to the gazebo in my uncle’s backyard—you have a spritz and you are in a European square, surrounded by cobblestones and impossibly chic women named Franca or Celeste. Both serve a purpose, but since this is our weekend of independence, let’s quit with the Brits and focus on the the spritz.
So I’m reading DealBook (listen we all know I love Matt Levine a lot, but he’s not devoting paragraphs to “everything is bitters” content) and I see this fun little chart about the increasing market share of Aperol in Campari’s annual sales:
Naturally I got to thinking about my affinity for the Aperol spritz and its share in my personal beverage consumption. Around 2017, I was introduced to the Cappelletti spritz when they ran out of Aperol at Fairfax. (Demand for trendy drinks definitely outstrips supply in the West Village.) From then on, I became freakishly interested the possibilities of aperitivi and the vehicle of the spritz.
We all know that the Aperol spritz is basically the liqueur, sparkling wine, soda, and garnish. A perfect drink. Serve it with some olives, cheese, charcuterie—the Italians nailed la dolce vita. Given Aperol’s dominance, it’s led to a great resurgence of the category. Beyond Cappelletti (a bright, sweet, orangey liquer that is perfect full stop), there’s a wealth of aperitifs to explore:
Forthave Red: I have a bottle of this at home; based out of Brooklyn, Forthave has been doing fun stuff—gins, amaros, a coffee thing that I didn’t try but gave to a friend as an Xmas gift (I still haven’t had the nerve to drink an espresso martini, but she’s Australian and that’s like water to them)—but I stick to the red. It’s drier, closer to a Campari, with both the citrus and cherry flavors you can get from various aperitifs.
Faccia Bruto: Another BK-based company (I am borough-loyal). By now you’ve likely seen their products all over. They make that bright green imitation chartreuse that I have heard smells terrible but mixes well. Since none of us can ever get a table at Rucola this this the second best. It’s smoky and tastes like cherry - I like it for a stronger drink, it only needs a really light Prosecco.
Bruto Americano: Based in CA, this Bruto is also a Campari-adjacent substitute. My brother introduced this to me after our friend who lives in Cambridge introduced it to him. I think the last time we had a bottle at home in NJ we went through it pretty fast. I recall it wasn’t overpoweringly herby, and I think we went in a gin direction with it.
Cocchi Americano (red or bianco): Another option my brother brought into the mix. Bianco is less sweet and while it still has the floral notes it is more balanced with the taste of herbs (see below as well). I don’t have a bottle of either Cocchis at home right now, but they’re on the long list.
Berto Bianco: Let’s stick with biancos for a moment. Recently I’ve been doing a lot of vermouth and soda with a twist. I especially like biancos because they pair really nicely with citrus and are so light; perfect for a really oppressively humid day, or just an easy drink while you make dinner. The Berto is a household fave. It’s a Kermit Lynch import and I first discovered it at Formaggio’s in Cambridge so you know it has been given the snob stamp of approval. It’s bright but you can really taste the herbs.
Occhipinti Naturale (orange or red): Another vermouth! If you were one of the many people who, like me, got Occhipinti pilled after the Stanley Tucci Italy show came out, you got interested in the Occhipinti family. While Arianna makes the popular SP68 wines, another branch is busy making these vermouths. Every time I’m in Astor I wonder if this is the trip where I drop $55 on vermouth (I have yet to). But I really liked this the last time I had it. Made from moscato grapes, it has that more floral taste which can be really lovely on a humid summer afternoon.
Honorable mention also goes to: Lo-Fi Gentian, Contratto, and Select. You won’t mind displaying any of these bottles at home, either. I’m not trying to cut into Aperol’s market share, what’s nice about effective marketing is that the spritz pie is big enough for everyone to have a slice now. Honestly, I skip the Prosecco if I make anything at home, all you need is a twist of citrus and some seltzer and it’s just as refreshing (and easier to have a second round).
If you want to try these out as the Italians intended, find yourself a good spot to post up at during aperitivo hour. In BK, I like Aita for that. Manhattan has a ton of options: Jolene, Bar Pisellino (if you can get a seat), Dante, any place that is non-douchey and on a roof (are they mutually exclusive? Not my call, I’m a douche!).
Fix any of these up and, to quote Ariana Grande—right now I’m in a state of mind I want to be in, like, all the time. Once we get to summer my body needs to hear either yacht rock or Vampire Weekend at least once a day while I’m having seltzer. Make something effervescent, turn on Father of the Bride if the vibe is backyard, or Contra if you’re near a beach. Keep yourself rich in casteveltranos and whatever you do, don’t skimp on the mortadella, please. Enjoy the new freckles you’ve earned and happy Independence Day: welcome to spritz season.

BUSINESS BEFORE PLEASURE
1917
Business Before Pleasure is a play by Montague Glass and Jules Eckert Goodman. It was originally produced by A.H. Woods starring Barney Barnard and Alexander Carr as Potash and Perlmutter.
This was the third play featuring Potash and Perlmutter, based on characters created by Glass for a series of short stories published serially in the New York Evening Post.
These were then published in a collection Potash and Perlmutter: Their Co-partnership Ventures and Adventures, in 1909. In the first story, Potash and Perlmutter meet and become partners in the ‘cloak and suit' [garment] business.
They first appeared on Broadway in the 1913 in the eponymous Potash and Perlmutter, sometimes known as Potash and Perlmutter in Society, followed by Abe and Mawruss (1915), the title referring to the characters’ first names. After Business Before Pleasure, there was His Honor: Abe Potash (1919), Partners Again (1922), and Potash and Perlmutter, Detectives (1926), all written by Glass with various co-authors. All except the last were produced by Woods.
There was also a feature film titled Potash and Perlmutter (1913) which spawned two sequels: In Hollywood with Potash and Perlmutter (1924) and Partners Again (1926).
Potash and Perlmutter were both Jewish, like Glass himself. The characters' Jewishness is highlighted by Glass' use of dialect in writing their dialogue.
Abe Potash was originally played by Barney Bernard (left) and Alexander Carr originated the role of Mawruss Perlmutter. Although they are most associated with the roles, other actors also played the characters on stage and screen.
SYNOPSIS: “Business Before Pleasure” finds Perlmutter and Potash working in the ‘fillum’ [film] business. They seek financial backing and hire actors, including an ‘umpire’ [vampire] named Rita Sismondi who gives the pair considerable angst.
Business Before Pleasure premiered in Atlantic City at Nixon’s Apollo Theatre on August 6, 1917.
The play opened on Broadway at Eltinge’s 42nd Street Theatre on August 15, 1917. The play ran a remarkable 357 performances, more than twice that of the previous P&P installment, but just short of the original, which ran 441 performances.
“The success of ‘Business Before Pleasure' was made certain by the engagement of Barney Bernard and Alexander Carr for the principal roles. They have been acting the parts so long that they fit them like Annette Kellermann’s tights after her first dive — the old kid glove comparison does not seem to express It — and they carried off the honors easily.” ~ BROOKLYN DAILY EAGLE
Annette Kellermann was an Australian swimmer and vaudeville star who was one of the first women to wear a one-piece bathing costume, instead of pantaloons.
"It's a wonderful play," said the first man to leave the Eltinge Theatre last night after the final curtain, and "It's a wonderful play," echoed his companion, with strong emphasis on the word ‘wonderful’. It is safe to say that half the audience expressed the same sentiment, and the other half were so full of delightful memories of the show that they didn't want to break the spell by talking. ~ BROOKLYN CITIZEN
A clever Labor Day advertisement for the play ostensibly a typed note from the stars to their producer about their popularity.
In February 1918, while the Broadway production continued into its sixth month, the first of four road companies was launched in Pennsylvania.
In May 1918, Bernard and Carr left the show and were replaced by Robert Leonard and Gus York, who had originated the roles in the London production of the first play.
"’Business Before Pleasure’ with Barney Bernard and Alexander Carr missing, failed to find the favor which It had enjoyed with those two players present, and accordingly abandoned its intention to make a summer run of lt.” ~ NEW YORK TIMES, June 23, 1918
In 1924, a film version of the play was released under the title of In Hollywood with Potash and Perlmutter. It was the second film to feature the characters. The role of Potash was taken by George Sidney replacing Barney Bernard, who had died six months before the film’s release. In the UK the film was titled So This Is Hollywood. Genuine screen ‘vampire’ Betty Blythe played Rita Sismondi. Jersey City-born silent film star Norma Talmadge and her sister Constance made appearances as themselves.
The film premiered in Atlantic City at the Virginia Theatre on the Boardwalk on November 22, 1924.
From cloaks and suits to filming ‘beauts’!

Why Are We So Obsessed With “Ugly” Shoes? Psychologists Weigh In
SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA – JUNE 01: Suzan Mutesi is seen wearing Crocs shoes with Jibbitz charms at Afterpay Australian Fashion Week 2021 on June 1, 2021 in Sydney, Australia. (Photo by Matt Jelonek/WireImage)
After depriving myself of any opportunity to spend money on things that weren’t absolutely unnecessary for about a year, I finally decided to break my “nothing new” shopping approach and purchase the absolute ugliest pair of Crocs I could find: Realtree Baes, a platform version of the brand’s traditional clog covered in camo print. They arrived at my door a week later, and I haven’t taken them off since.
I’m certainly not alone in my newfound love of “ugly” footwear. While many people scoff at some of the latest shoe styles — Bottega Veneta’s Puddle Boots, Christopher Kane’s Z-Coil sandal, Balenciaga’s many styles of Crocs, etc. — many more are taking out their credit cards.
“Ugly fashion attracts attention because it is different,” explains Carolyn Mair, Ph.D., a cognitive psychologist who specialises in fashion. We tend to ignore “normal” or average objects since we know how to process them, she says, but we pay more attention to complex or unusual objects — ugly shoes included.
By drawing the viewer’s attention, she adds, ugly fashion becomes fascinating. “It may be considered aesthetically unpleasing,” she says, “but it’s this exact feature that appeals to others… Wearing something different that draws attention could be interpreted as risk-taking, which may be perceived as exciting, adventurous, and fun.”

Iterations of conventionally unattractive shoes have been making waves in fashion for years. Christopher Kane debuted Crocs for his Spring 2017 runway collection back in September 2016, followed a year later by the first Balenciaga x Crocs collaboration in October 2017. Dad trainers (or grandpa trainers) have risen in popularity in the street style circuit, with shoes like the Fila Disruptor and Balenciaga Triple S becoming cult favourites amongst fashion’s elite. And let us not forget we’ve entered the Golden Age of clogs, with many designers putting their own spin on the clunky footwear that was once the province of Dutch field workers and Brooklyn mothers.
A year-plus of social distancing and time spent at home due to a global pandemic has only given further rise to the popularity of ugly-yet-comfy footwear. While going out was no longer a thing, we ditched high heels for easier-to-wear styles for our masked-up trips to the grocery store. According to online retailer Klarna, there’s been an 872% increase in searches for “Crocs” since last June, and a 391% increase in searches for “clogs.”
As far as fashion psychologist Dawnn Karen is concerned, the dearth of social interactions since early 2020 has us looking to our wardrobes to help us engage more than ever. Wearing something that may be considered a conversation piece is a way to connect.
“If you and I have been indoors, and we haven’t had in-person interactions, going outdoors and wearing ugly footwear like the [Balenciaga] Croc stiletto will cause people to look at our feet, and they will begin to engage us,” she says. “Then we’ve gained our social points for the day.”
Even as the world begins to open back up and many of our lives return to some sense of normalcy, ugly footwear shows no signs of slowing down. Remember Isabel Marant’s iconic Bekett trainer from the early 2010s (which some refer to as the OG ugly footwear)? It’s back and will cost you a cool $770 per pair today. Birkenstocks and Tevas are also enjoying an extended moment of glory, thanks to designer team-ups. But while there’s no denying that we’ve become pretty obsessed with heinous shoes, the question is why? Novelty alone is not enough to explain the fact that Italian label Avavav’s unseemly finger feet boots are almost entirely sold out.
According to Dr. Matt Johnson, founder of consumer psychology blog PopNeuro and host of the neuroscience and marketing training program Neuromarketing Bootcamp, the answer comes from the ways our choice of footwear can affect us on a deeper level. “The brands we buy and the clothes we wear have a deep impact on our mood and our behaviour,” he says. “Some of this comes down to the item of clothing itself: how it feels on us, and how we think of ourselves while wearing it. We come to associate specific moods and mental states with specific items, so much so that when we put them on, we’re instantly transported into that state.”
Dr. Mair adds that this tendency to invest a garment with greater meaning is known as “essentialism,” or “an intangible property that makes an item unique.” In the case of clunky, bulbous styles like clogs, she says that some may believe them to send out a more welcoming message to others: “We tend to interpret round, curved shapes as soft, warm, and approachable, and jagged shapes as hard, cold, and potentially dangerous.”
So is ugly footwear here to stay? According to the experts, it is. Dr. Johnson mentions that throughout the pandemic, we’ve grown accustomed to the comfort of spending time at home — and the comfortable, ugly shoes that come with that. As life begins its slow return to normal, a few nostalgists may be excitedly dusting off their towering heels, but many of us will never look back.
“While people will ultimately ditch the joggers as they begin to head out into the world, the emphasis on comfort will likely remain,” Dr. Johnson says. “This may mean that traditionally uncomfortable heels may give way to more comfortable competitors.”
However, if it were only about comfort, we’d all be laced into matching Adidas Boosts. The instinct toward the ugly “comes back to differentiation,” Dr. Johnson adds. “People don’t want to just look good, they also, crucially, want to look different.” Crocs fit that bill, but they also fit another even more narrow category of items: So uncool that they’re cool.
“It’s a confidence move to wear Crocs, as if saying, ‘I’m so cool that I can wear these ugly shoes and still be cool.’ Or better yet, ‘I’m so cool, I can make Crocs look cool, ’” posits Dr. Johnson. That stands even when there are multiple versions storming up and down the block. Though, as Dr. Karen adds, once enough other people start adopting the “ugly shoe,” it starts to shed its irony and become “pretty.”
Whether you’re a lover or a hater, a comfort seeker or an ironic flag-waver, the ugly shoe will likely continue to grace runways, streets, and our social feeds for seasons to come. If you’ve been contemplating buying a pair of your own, there’s no better time to dip a toe in. May I suggest Crocs?
Like what you see? How about some more R29 goodness, right here?

Are you bored in quarantine as well?
well that’s tuff
no but seriously here are some things you can watch/read/listen too. Featuring my terrible summaries of them as I try to explain them without ships
Netflix
Avatar, obviously what are you doing, what do you mean you’ve never watched this cultural cornerstone- an animated show about people who can control elements and the avatar is a 12 who has to save the world by learning to bend all of the elements
Any/all of the john Mulaney specials because we respect our proud asian american woman in this house- a comedian tells iconic jokes
haikuyu. -volleyball anime
Sherlock- tv show about a detective and his cases and his friend who the whole fandom ships him with but its not the main basis of the show
Good Place-a funny show but it also somehow teaches you philosophy, basically its about these humans and their journey in the afterlife
Lucifer, we stan Lucy-about lucifer coming to earth and just vibing but no one really believes him when he says hes literally the devil
Merlin because HOW COULD THEY END IT LIKE THAT HOW DARE THEY- a show about merlin protecting aurther in camelot with his magic even though magic is outlawed
Witcher, a fantasy show you may need to watch twice because the timeline is a little confusing.-a fantasy setting based off of a book
Umbrella academy, klaus is our child and we will fite anyone who says otherwise-some kids were randomly born with superpowers and an extra billionaire bought them and its about the kids stopping the apocalypse
troll hunters, a show about a kid who basically has to save the world so many times, and GREAT animations like 10/10 animations
3below, a show that takes place in the same town as troll hunters but its about these alien refugees and its also good, we stan steve and eli
Miraculous Ladybug merely because the fandom is funny to me-highschoolers become superheros and the guy likes the super hero girl but the girl likes the civilian identity of the boy but neither of them no each others identities
Carmen sandiego because I LOVE gray for no reason like i cant explain- a kids show about a girl who was raised by theives who then learned they were evil so she steals from them and returns the items but the people investigating her still think shes a villian
stranger things, again, WHY HAVENT YOU WATCHED THIS- a show about scientist fucking up and this group f kids have to keep fixing it
Hulu
my hero acedemia- everyone has powers whoo and theres a h=whole society built around these powers and its centered around this highschool kid whos going to highschool to become a power and theres a whole things i cant really explain just watch it
brooklyn 99, its literally one of the best shows ever just saying- about detectives but its funny but also deals with serious stuff sometimes
Orville-its basically if star trek and those ‘humans are space orcs/australians’ was a tv show
the rookie- a more serious cop show, good show
mythbusters, mostly as a background show- a couple of scientist do fun expirements (dont try at home, try at a friends house) and they bust or prove myths
other
Critical role!!!!!! its so good, and its reaalllyy long which is nice during quarentine-its a dnd campagn but you dont really need to know much about dnd to enjoy, its about a group of adventurers with great backgrounds played by voice actors just playing dnd and its fun
good omens-an angel and demon try their best to save the world, but also they are a married couple (not the main point, very background)
Psych, it doesnt get NEARLY as much love as it should-a show about a dude who has teh mental abilities of sherlock, but funny and not a robot who prenteds to be a phycic and works with the police department with his best friend gus
Books (first 3 on audible, where I listen while drawing. you can get one of those free trials from anyone from youtube and you get to keep the book even if you cancel the subscription)
Mistborn by Brandon sanderson- some people have powers when they burn metals and can do cool thing. this takes place in fantasy-esque time where the bad guy already one hundereds of years ago and a group of thieves over throw the ruler ~500 pages ish
Alloy of law by Brandon sanderson-a series that takes place hundereds of years after mistborn and now they have guns and its the wild west. dont read before mistborn unless you dont mind spoilers for the first series ~400 pages each
Name of the wind by Patrick Rothfuss- its the first part of a trilogy (thrid book not out yet) it follows the life of a legend from his point of view and its also fantasy esque. ive read them 3 times ~900 pages
spy school series by Start gibbs- kids go to spy school, main character keeps thwarting the bad guys despite everyones confusion. long books not like the books from book fair that are like 100 pages long, actual story happens in these ~300 words
Ill gladly talk IN LENGTH about basically any of these so i guess this is also a small version of my fandom list?

HERE’S WHAT YOU MISSED THIS WEEK (9.18-9.24.19):
NEW MUSIC:
· The All-American Rejects released a new music video for their song “Gen Why? (DGAF).” The song comes off of AAR’s latest EP Send Her to Heaven, which dropped earlier this summer.
· Punk band The Menzingers released a new video for their new song “Strangers Forever,” marking the end of summer. The song comes from the band’s next album Hello Exile, out on October 4th.
· Can’t Swim announced a new EP featuring the likes of Trash Talk’s Spencer Pollard, Taking Back Sunday’s Adam Lazzara, Frank Carter, Stray from the Path’s Drew Dijorio and more. The EP will be titled Foreign Language and is set to debut next month.
· Fall Out Boy lead vocalist, Patrick Stump, was featured on the new single “86 Missed Calls” by Japanese band MAN WITH A MISSION. The FOB vocalist previously helped write and produce the band’s 2017 track “Dead End in Tokyo.”
· Canadian singer Lights recruited Blink-182 drummer, Travis Barker, to collaborate on a new track titled “Long Live.” The song is an ode to the singer’s debut album, which was released a decade ago.
· Mayday Parade surprised fans with a 7” EP as a continuation of their latest album, Sunnyland, which dropped last year. The EP includes an acoustic version of “It’s Hard to Be Religious When Certain People Are Never Incinerated by Bolts of Lightning” and a B-side titled “Turn My Back.”
· Australian singer Alex Lahey recorded a cover of My Chemical Romance’s “Welcome to the Black Parade” for the radio station Triple J’s recurring Like a Version segment. The cover later received praise from the band’s frontman, Gerard Way, himself.
· Bayside announced a new album titled Interrobang, as well as a video for the album’s title track, last Friday. The full-length arrives after the band dropped the song “Prayers” following the release of an acoustic version of “Mona Lisa” back in January.
· Jimmy Eat World revealed the title of their next album, Surviving, as well as its first single “All the Way (Stay)”. Additionally, they announced a handful of tour dates in the U.S. and UK.
TOUR ANNOUNCEMENTS:
· Tonight Alive are scheduled to play their first show since 2018 at Australia’s Unify Gathering Festival on Saturday, January 11th, 2020. The band previously announced a string of U.S. tour dates for early 2019 before cancelling the tour and taking a hiatus from touring.
· Thrice announced a string of 15th anniversary tour dates in celebration of their fourth studio album, Vheissu. They will be joined by fellow rock acts mewithoutYou, Drug Church and Holy Fawn.
· Green Day, YUNGBLUD, Korn, System of a Down, the Offspring, Of Mice & Men, August Burns Red many others were announced to play next year’s Rock Am Ring and Rock Im Park festivals, both in Germany. The festival will take place on the first weekend of June.
· The Hella Mega Tour received major flack over the price and perks of its VIP packages. Some fans are not happy with the high price of a VIP ticket that doesn’t include a meet and greet with the bands.
· Blink-182 frontman Mark Hoppus addressed the band’s cancelled gigs in Columbus, Ohio, and El Paso, Texas, on Instagram. The band was forced to cancel their El Paso date after a nearby mass shooting the day prior, where Hoppus revealed they were locked down in their hotel.
· Simple Plan and Bowling for Soup announced a joint UK tour scheduled for the start of 2020. The Together Again! You’re Welcome Tour will feature Not Ur Girlfrenz as an opening act, and will mark the first time the bands have played together in the UK again in 16 years.
· In light of the Cars frontman Ric Ocasek’s passing earlier last week, the Killers covered “My Best Friend’s Girl” at a show in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Prior to this, the band’s singer Brandon Flowers posted a heartfelt tribute to the late musician on Twitter.
· Blink-182 played an intimate Spotify Encores gig in New York last Thursday, where they performed their most-streamed songs. The show took place at punk venue Saint Vitus in Brooklyn.
· Green Day took a stab at current U.S. president Donald Trump during their set at the iHeartRadio Music Festival. They changed the lyrics to their hit song “American Idiot,” swapping “I’m not a part of a redneck agenda” for “I’m not a part of a MAGA agenda.”
· Waterparks announced the supporting acts for the U.S. leg of their Fandom Tour, as well as some extra UK and European tour dates. Openers for their American tour include rapper Yung Pinch and rock band Kitten.
· Carousel Kings were revealed as the opening act for the upcoming co-headlining tour of McCafferty and guardin. Other bands joining them on the tour include thebreathingbackwards.
· For the rapper’s 37th birthday, Blink-182 gifted Lil Wayne a joint of marijuana onstage during their New York show last Friday. “I’ll take this now,” Wayne said right before he sparked it up with the help of Travis Barker and an off-stage hand.
OTHER NEWS:
· Angels and Airwaves and former Blink-182 frontman, Tom DeLonge, filed for divorce from his wife Jennifer after 18 years of marriage. After meeting in high school and raising two children, the couple is reportedly separating due to “irreconcilable differences.”
· Following this, DeLonge posted three videos through his organization, To the Stars Academy of Arts and Sciences, that potentially show UFOs. In response, the U.S. Navy confirmed the videos as “unidentified” phenomena in time for Storm Area 51 last Friday.
· In response to fan rumors, DeLonge also made a statement about his time with Blink-182 and squashed rumors that there is any bad blood between him and his former bandmates. To backtrack, Mark Hoppus recently spoke about Blink-182 before Matt Skiba replaced him following his departure in 2015.

Moulin Rouge for VOGUE!
(These are the HQ Photo Versions!)
Moulin Rouge!’s Broadway cast, photographed at Kings Theatre in Brooklyn. Sittings Editors: Hamish Bowles, Alexandra Cronan. Produced by 360pm. Set Design: CJ Dockery at Mary Howard Studio; Costume Designer: Catherine Zuber; Choreographer: Sonya Tayeh
Photographed by Baz Luhrmann, Vogue, July 2019
July 2019 Vogue (Online)
BAZ LUHRMANN WAS BORN to reinvent the movie musical for a new generation—which is exactly what he did in 2001 with Moulin Rouge!, his deliriously romantic mash-up, set in 1890s Paris, of La Bohème, La Traviata, and the Orpheus myth, with a soundtrack that exploded with modern-day pop songs, lavish Technicolor sets and costumes (by his wife, Catherine Martin), and a hyperkinetic cinematic style that drew on MGM musicals, MTV videos, and Bollywood spectaculars. The motto of this blatantly artificial world, served with a knowing wink (which nevertheless swept us up in its very real, very breathless emotions), could be borrowed from William Blake’s The Marriage of Heaven and Hell: “Enough! Or too much.”
In his own way, the brilliant theater director Alex Timbers—whose work includes Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, Here Lies Love, and, most recently, Beetlejuice—was born to reinvent Moulin Rouge! for the stage, as another generation of New York audiences will discover when his electrifying, eye-popping, and blissfully over-the-top adaptation of Luhrmann’s masterpiece opens on Broadway, after a smash run in Boston, this month.
“I’ve spent my life taking classics and interpreting them in radical ways,” Luhrmann says, “so how could I not applaud someone taking a work of mine and interpreting it in a radical way? You have to interpret things for the time and place you’re in. In the end, it’s still a tragic opera, but Alex applies himself to it in such a dexterous way that there’s irony and fun and music and emotion.”
Luhrmann grew up in Herons Creek, a tiny, remote Australian town with a total of seven houses in it, where, he says, “if you didn’t have a good imagination and an ability to create worlds in your mind, you were lost.” Fortunately his family, which ran a gas station and a pig farm, also ran the local movie theater and had a black-and-white TV set (which showed exactly one channel), and Luhrmann devoured a steady diet of old movies, including musicals, with which he fell in love. His mother was a ballroom-dance instructor who started giving him lessons early, and his father insisted that Luhrmann and his siblings study painting and music. Before long he was staging little shows, performing magic tricks, making films with his father’s 8-millimeter camera, and acting in school plays.
Apparently it was the ideal upbringing to produce an artist of dazzling originality, one with a singular, idiosyncratic vision and an expansive playing field: film, theater, opera, commercials, music videos, pop songs. After the success of his first two films, Strictly Ballroom and Romeo + Juliet—both of which had healthy doses of movie-musical DNA encoded into their cinematic language—Luhrmann wanted to take on the genre itself. He and his co-writer, Craig Pearce, set their film in Belle Epoque Paris, in and around the legendary Moulin Rouge nightclub, telling a tragic love story straight out of verismo opera with the Orpheus legend—a young poet and musician travels to the underworld in search of his dead love, Eurydice, and is reunited with her only to lose her again, emerging forever changed—as its mythical underpinning.
But Luhrmann also had what he calls a “preposterous conceit” that allowed his Orpheus—a Bohemian poet named Christian, played by Ewan McGregor—to metaphorically enchant the very rocks and stones to follow him because of his voice: “When our poet opens his mouth, ‘The hills are alive with the sound of music’ comes out of it,” he says. “Whether you like The Sound of Music or not, it’s a giant hit that’s got artistic cred—so it’s a funny, concise way of saying ‘The guy has magic.’” Preposterous or not, the conceit turned the love story between McGregor’s Christian and Nicole Kidman’s doomed Satine, a nightclub star and courtesan, into a pop fantasia, giving the music its audience had grown up with—from “Your Song” to “Lady Marmalade”—an operatic grandeur.
Luhrmann had long wanted to bring Moulin Rouge! to the stage but felt that he wasn’t the right person for the job—he worried that he was too close to the material and might be overprotective of it. Enter Alex Timbers, 40, a downtown wunderkind who has brought the cheeky, postmodern spirit of his theater company Les Freres Corbusier to Broadway and shares with Luhrmann a restlessly playful and inventive mise-en-scène. “When I saw Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, I could tell that his aesthetic and the way he told a story—very high-energy, very theatrical, ironic but also moving—had a certain kinship with mine,” Luhrmann says. “And after I met him, I knew that he would have his own interpretation but also understand the language of the film.”
The biggest challenge Timbers and his team faced was how to bring the film’s hypercinematic exuberance alive on a stage. “We had to create a visceral and kinetic excitement using an entirely theatrical vocabulary,” Timbers says. “We don’t have any of those virtuosic techniques like close-ups and Steadicam and music video–style editing, but you want the show to be able to leap over the footlights—emotionally, but also as a spectacle. So we use a lot of techniques to do that.”
Do they ever. From the moment you enter the theater, it’s clear that Timbers has realized his mandate to make the show—which he’s been working on for the past six years—“360.” It’s as if you’ve walked into the Moulin Rouge itself, courtesy of the gorgeously overwhelming set (by Derek McLane) that greets you: There are hearts within hearts, chandeliers, the stage flanked by a windmill on one side and an elephant on the other. Then out come the corset-clad boys and girls of the night (who come in all colors, shapes, and sizes) and the fashionable members of the Parisian demimonde in Catherine Zuber’s fabulous costumes. The next thing you know, “Four Bad Ass Chicks from the Moulin Rouge,” as the script identifies them—propelled onstage by Sonya Tayeh’s wildly exuberant choreography—are belting “Hey sista, go sista, soul sista, flow sista,” and we’re off to the races. “I wanted to build this exotic, intoxicating world that felt beautiful and dangerous and gritty and sexy,” Timbers says. “It felt really important for the sets and the costumes to use period elements, and for us to be ruthless about that, but to put them in a form that feels contemporary and surprising.”
The seven-time Tony-winning costume designer Zuber (The King and I, My Fair Lady) has done that and then some, tipping her hat to Catherine Martin’s designs for the film without imitating them. She’s even managed to design Belle Epoque finery that allows the dancers the freedom of movement to execute Tayeh’s propulsive choreography. Zuber is also a master of using costumes to reveal character and situation, as with the ornate gown she designed for Satine after she becomes the Duke’s courtesan and enters his glittering world. Inspired by designs from John Galliano’s 2006 couture collection, it features a bodice that looks like a cage and three rows of lacing down the back. “It’s almost like she’s a prisoner,” Zuber says.
Playing Satine this time around is Karen Olivo (West Side Story, Hamilton), who brings very different qualities to the role than Kidman, both physical (Olivo is a woman of color) and temperamental (desperate, determined, and down-to-earth, as opposed to ethereal). Aaron Tveit (Next to Normal, Catch Me if You Can), meanwhile, sings like a dream and brings the requisite dewy idealism to the naive Christian, but with a hint of something edgier.
The story is very much the same as the film’s: Satine is the star attraction at the Moulin Rouge, owned by the rapacious Harold Zidler (Danny Burstein), who is in financial hot water and in danger of losing the club. Christian and Satine meet and fall head over heels, but she has been promised by Zidler to the villainous Duke (Tam Mutu), who can give her the bejeweled life she’s always dreamed of, forcing her to choose between that and true love. Meanwhile, Christian and his pals Santiago and Toulouse-Lautrec (Ricky Rojas and Sahr Ngaujah) are writing a show, bankrolled by the Duke, that is meant to save the Moulin Rouge from going under. Then, of course, Satine has this persistent cough and . . . well, you know.
The big difference in terms of the storytelling is that book writer John Logan (Red) has fleshed out and deepened the characters and the relationships between them. “We looked at the major characters, asked what their backstories were, and tried to figure out how grounded they could possibly be in psychological realism and yet still be heightened in that way that musical theater demands,” Logan says. “How did Satine get to be this sparkling diamond—and what’s the price she’s paid along the way?”
But the boldest change—and in many ways the heart of the show—is in the new songs, which give Moulin Rouge! fresh emotional resonance (and whip the crowd into a frenzy). Along with the familiar Bowie, Madonna, and Elton John tunes, expect to hear from the likes of Outkast, Sia, Beyoncé, Fun, Adele, and Lorde, to name but a few (there are more than 70 songs in the show). To curate Moulin Rouge!’s dizzying playlist, Timbers, Logan, and music director/genius Justin Levine holed up in a Times Square hotel room with a digital keyboard, dredged up their musical memories, and took note of what worked. Their taste is impeccable, whether using a song for its sheer exuberance, as with a rousing version of Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance,” or to reveal a character’s inner desires, as Satine does with Katy Perry’s “Firework.”
Logan has been blown away to see how powerfully audiences have connected with the show—and the songs. “I went to a wedding recently, and when the dancing started, I heard half our score being played, which was wild,” he says. “And when you see audience members respond to the songs—‘They’re using thatsong? Oh, my God! No way!’—you can feel how excited they are. It’s an experience I’ve never had before. It’s magic.”

Franklyn Ajaye
Franklyn Ajaye (born May 13, 1949) is an American stand-up comedian and actor. His nickname is "The Jazz Comedian" for his distinctive jazz inflected style of delivery, timing, and astute use of silence. His name is sometimes wrongly spelled as Franklin Ajaye. He is known for his role as Spider Mike in Convoy (1978).
Life and career
Ajaye was born in Brooklyn, New York, but raised in Los Angeles by a Sierra Leonean father, after whom he is named, and an American mother (named Quetta), making Ajaye, as he likes to joke, a "true African-American". He has released five comedy albums to date: Franklyn Ajaye, Comedian (1973), I'm a Comedian, Seriously (1974), Don't Smoke Dope, Fry Your Hair (1977), Plaid Pants and Psychopaths (1986), and Vagabond Jazz & the Abstract Truth (2004). The last two were recorded in Sydney and Melbourne, Australia.
Ajaye made his network debut on The Flip Wilson Show in 1973 and made his first appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson a year later. Ajaye emigrated to Melbourne, Australia, in 1997 but returns to the United States periodically to do work on television. His last American television appearance was on Paul Provenza's The Greenroom on Showtime in 2011. He is known in Australia for his appearances on The Panel and Thank God You're Here and for his popular one-man shows "Nothing But The Truth", "Talkin' Vagabond Jazz", and "Vagabond Jazz & The Abstract Truth" at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
He has worked as an actor, appearing in films such as Sweet Revenge (1976), Car Wash (1976), Convoy (1978), Stir Crazy (1980), the 1980 version of The Jazz Singer, Hysterical (1982), Get Crazy (1983), Fraternity Vacation (1985), Hollywood Shuffle (1987), The Wrong Guys (1988), The 'Burbs (1989), and American Yakuza (1993). He also appeared on an episode of Barney Miller as police-car thief Frasier Wilton in 1976. He has been seen more recently in the TV show Deadwood as Samuel Fields and reprised that role in 2019's Deadwood: The Movie. In 2011, Ajaye had a small but memorable role in the box office hit Bridesmaids, playing the father of Lillian (played by Maya Rudolph), and in 2013 he played management guru Marvin Hudsfield in the Australian ABC sitcom Utopia. He has been nominated twice for Emmy Awards for Outstanding Writing in a Variety or Music Program for In Living Color (1990) and Politically Incorrect (1997).
He has worked on the hit family comedy series created and executive-produced by Robert Townsend, The Parent 'Hood (January 1995 - July 1999); some of his credits on the show include acting as "executive consultant" with Barry "Berry" Douglas in season 1 episode 9 ("Trial by Jerri") and episode 11 ("Nice Guys Finish Last") and as a co-producer with Douglas for season 2 episode 2 ("A Kiss is Just a Kiss").
Ajaye is the author of Comic Insights: The Art of Standup Comedy (ISBN 978-1-879505-54-4), which contains interviews with Jerry Seinfeld, Chris Rock, Bill Maher, Ellen DeGeneres, and other famous stand up comedians offering valuable advice for aspiring comedians. His comedic influences include Richard Pryor, George Carlin, Robert Klein, Bill Cosby, and Nichols and May.
Influence
On his stand-up television show Stewart Lee's Comedy Vehicle the British comedian used Ajaye's LP I'm a Comedian, Seriously as the basis of a routine.

Signal Boost: Male OCs
Seeing @darknightfrombeyond‘s post to call for male ocs reminded me of a conversation I had with her (that male ocs don’t get a lot of love) but then reminded me that we have a lot of main character male ocs that we either don’t do a lot with (on here) or that others just don’t know about. So here’s our list of male ocs with their fc, fandom, and pairing, and I implore you to add all of yours so that we can see all the fantastic male ocs of the oc community. Put under a read more (after the first one) since I don’t want to clog up your feeds! :) -Riley
Reed Jackson
Fandom: Multi-Fandom; 3 Ninjas, Mighty Ducks, Suite Life, Big Time Rush, Just My Luck, Chicago Fire, Chicago PD, Forever, etc.
Pairing: Renee Jackson
Reed is an Australian who loves life, learning, and having fun. He almost always has a smile on his face and will do anything to have a good time. However, he does have a tendency to get sucked into his work at the detriment of spending time with his family as much as he tries to be a present father. A rocket scientist, he double majored in aerospace technology and mechanical engineering at NYU where he met his wife before moving back to Australia to start their family. In many fandoms, he’s deceased, but there are a few where he’s alive.
Julius Jackson
Fandom: Multi-Fandom; 3 Ninjas, Mighty Ducks, Suite Life, Big Time Rush, Just My Luck, Chicago Fire, Chicago PD, Forever, etc.
Pairing: Brittany McNair
Julius is the eldest of the Jacksons, and is probably one of the quieter of them. As the oldest, he works to live his own life despite feeling the need to look after his brothers and sisters. In fandoms where his parents are deceased, he is taken in by his grandparents and lives apart from his siblings. Because of this, he isn’t as close to them as he’d like to be, feeling he couldn’t protect them from the distance, and feels immense guilt over it.
Patrick Jackson
Fandom: Multi-Fandom; 3 Ninjas, Mighty Ducks, Suite Life, Big Time Rush, Just My Luck, Chicago Fire, Chicago PD, Forever, etc.
Pairing: Katie Knight
Patrick is a fun-loving boy who likes to make sure other people are happy...so he plays up his being dumb at times just to get a smile on their face. He loves to surf and despite not enjoying school so much, loves to learn in his own time. But behind his smile and happy-go-lucky attitude, he tends to be a bit insecure in his masculinity as he feels he’s not physically strong enough to stop the abuse he and his siblings face from their foster father after their parents die, and shows it at the worst times. As his sister says, he’s a “loveable asshole”.
Noah Jackson
Fandom: Multi-Fandom; 3 Ninjas, Mighty Ducks, Suite Life, Big Time Rush, Just My Luck, Chicago Fire, Chicago PD, Forever, etc.
Pairing: Lizzie Zevon
Noah is the quieter one of the twin boys, and is more independent, but is always there to back Patrick up or call him out. He’s an observer, preferring to get an idea of other people before showing his true self. For such a quiet guy, he has an obnoxiously loud laugh that startles people when they hear it. Noah is very compassionate and protective of his family.
Sydney Jackson
Fandom: Multi-Fandom; 3 Ninjas, Mighty Ducks, Suite Life, Big Time Rush, Just My Luck, Chicago Fire, Chicago PD, Forever, etc.
Pairing: Anna
Sydney is the youngest of the Jacksons and is the smartest. He’s part of MENSA and continuously uses his smarts to get his siblings’ attention (despite strongly feeling he’s their favorite sibling). He doesn’t remember his parents because he was one when they died and it’s been a source of sadness for him, though he doesn’t really talk about it until he’s older. Due to his smarts, he doesn’t have many friends his age, save for Anna, and often latches onto his brothers and sisters if not their friends for that social interaction and attention. As he gets older, he tends to be a bit more of a sarcastic jerk, and is admitted to be spoiled by his brothers and sisters who didn’t want him to feel left out due to the gap in their ages.
Ronan McGuire
Fandom: Bandfiction/Big Time Rush
Pairing: Mrs. Knight
Ronan McGuire is as laid back as he is serious. He’s the middle child in his family and quickly realized his parents didn’t have much time for him with his older brother and younger brother getting their attention. He entertained himself by making music and playing instruments before ultimately emancipating himself, going to the Berklee College of Music and eventually becoming one of the youngest professional music producers before ultimately starting his record company; Blazing Phoenix. He’s Gustavo’s friend despite how the two annoy each other and ultimately adopts the Jacksons after years of working with them and trying to prove the abuse they go through.
Brady Nash
Fandom: Arrowverse, MCU
Pairing: Haven’t said exactly who yet, I have three ideas. One who was just recently introduced.
Brady started out in the Flash and The Flame series at eight years old. Now twelve, he’s really come into his own with his powers and his identity as Shadowhunter. Starting out the series, Brady is a very excitable and emotionally intelligent young boy who greatly loves his mother and finds waht she can do with her powers to be “very cool”. As he gets older and sees what happens with The Flash and Flare, and has his own adventures being a meta, he matures faster and takes on a teasing personality that hinges on sarcasm. He is very protective of his mother and friends and finds going out to fight metas to be more “cool” than “serious”, often having to be scolded to remember how dire their situation is.
Connor Hawke
Fandom: Arrowverse
Pairing: Leah Brooklyn
Connor Hawke is my version of Arrow’s “William Clayton”. I basically took him and made him into an OC before it was revealed he was William and not Connor, but loved the idea of Connor so much that I took him as my own. Connor is Brady’s best friend. Despite being in the same grade since first grade, they didn’t really meet and become friends until third grade. (This is mostly due to Cadence’s want to keep Brady away from questioning of how old his mom was when she had him, and any potential moments of finding out about her powers). Connor is a sweet and intelligent child who is a bit more reserved than Brady, but quickly learns and accepts Brady’s powers and identity as Shadowhunter finding it to be “Very cool”. However, he quickly learns how dangerous things can be for Brady and other metas in their school and finds a way to figure out who the other metas are and communicate with them via a private social media account to give them tips and tricks to hiding their powers if needed and honing them if they choose.
